Your patience is appreciated

Many of you reading this on Inside the Dodgers have provided feedback for years that have led to the current changes taking place on the MLBlogs network of sites. If you haven’t ever visited the team’s offiicial blog, please bookmark us and come back…why?

Because the kinks are being worked out. I’m told that because ITD has had so much content generated over the past five-plus years, it’s presented a challenge during the switchover. But, I’ve been assured that the end product will be much better for all of you as commenters (and, for many of you, as bloggers yourselves).

So, hang in there for another day or so…we’ll surely be up and running smoothly by Opening Day, which is less than 100 hours away at this point.

Wow!!! The entire homepage is different, and I can’t find the blog on the homepage. Maybe that is one of the kinks being worked out.

The new Dodgers.com layout looks sharp. And I have to say that I’m a fan of the “It’s time for Dodgers Baseball” campaign as well. The most important thing to Dodgers fans is the team on the field at the stadium, and putting the emphasis on that is a lot more appropriate than deciding who owns the town. The Dodgers have always owned the town during the summer. No one contests that.

AND Happy Birthday to the 3/27 club: OldBrooklynFan, JHall, Rosie, and a few others who have commented here over the years. Hope you all had a great day, and many happy returns!

Hey Josh, I don’t know if it would make things easier or run smoother, but, I’m not sure we need all those old ITD archives. Maybe just keep 6 months to a year of them. I know I don’t use them. JMO!!!

Hello Dodger fans! Hey, I’m just trying to get a message to OldBrooklynFan about a memorial service for Duke Snider at the Brooklyn Cyclones park on Sunday, May 15th. For info tell him to check the flyer I posted on my main site…
    http://thebrooklyntrolleyblogger.blogspot.com/
…And just so you all know, I love chasing down anything Brooklyn Dodgers if it’s in Brooklyn to find. So if you’re so inclined, I appreciate anyone who visits. But I knew you all would make sure OldBrooklynFan would get the message if I left it here.

    Good luck this season!

It feels like we should be down about 5 runs too. So, in some ways he has gotten himself out of a lot of jams tonight which is a good thing.

    GO DODGERS!!!!

    enchantedbeaver

Whoopie! Fred Gwynn and Carroll Channing get the start on opening day!!
    .
Serious question – does this team even score opening day?

  23. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

Well, I am watching that other game that is on, and neither of those teams are doing anything spectacular either. It’s a 1 run game as well, and the gnats are currently winning.

  24. enchantedbeaver's avatar
    enchantedbeaver

I know there’s a lot of Carroll fans here on ITD, but for him to get the start over DeJesus or even Miles, that smacks of Joe starting JP over Andre and Kemp. What good does it do for a prospect to earn a spot, then have some PVL get the start anyway?
    .
And if Gwynn gets the start, why not in center where he’s the most useful defensively, and move Kemp to right and Dre to left?
    .
Its SOS different day. The idiocy never changes, only the names.

  25. jhallwally's avatar
    jhallwally

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!! Well this ones on DeJesus!!! Unfortunate for Brox!! He doesn’t bounce back from things like this very well!!!

  26. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

No, he does not 😦 ………but that’s on Brox and not De Jesus. Brox really needs to learn how to fight through this kind of stuff without implosions.

  27. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

Shad – I am not blaming Brox for the blown save. I was just speaking to the fact that he can’t let this stuff get to him and make his situation worse.

  28. jhallwally's avatar
    jhallwally

Errors happen and sometimes you don’t get the calls you want. Brox just doesn’t shake it off very well and get the job done. Just the way it is!!!

  29. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

I agree Jhall!! He gets too rattled too easily still. I know it’s spring training still, but it seems like the old habits are still lingering.

  30. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

Andre needs to share his team psychologist with Brox if he isn’t already doing so 🙂

Well, that was a big mistake in our favor.

Overall it wasn’t too bad of a game. With the way Lilly started out, it could have been alot worse. Plus, it doesn’t count so onto tomorrow night when we head down the road to Anaheim.

  33. nedajerk's avatar

It’s great to finally have the start of the season just a couple of days away. Everyone starts with a clean slate and a lot of hope, and I hope that we can stay competitive in our division in spite of Ned’s efforts and Frank’s being in ownership so far.

My own expectations are not high when I look at what we’ll put out on the field. Let’s just realistically take it by position:
    1st Base – we’re average.
    2nd Base – mediocre.
At short – maybe average, but fading.
    3rd Base – mediocre.
    Catcher – mediocre.
CF – better than average, and I’m talking about Kemp.
RF – average (sorry, if that upsets the Ethieraholics)
    LF – mediocre.
Starting pitching – average, other than Kershaw and maybe Billz, but then again most teams have two good starters.
Bullpen – probably better than average.
Bench – at best average, but leaning to mediocre.

Perhaps the most exciting times in Spring Training were when our really young guys got a chance, like Sands and Smith, but there certainly is not much depth among really good prospects.

Is there much reason to expect that we’ll perform at a level better than .500? The brightest hope yet is that Frank will be forced to GO with Ned not far behind. So, what else is new?

  36. jhallwally's avatar

Remember, these were AAA players Brox was facing last night. God help us when he faces the real deal.

The Dodger fans are probably the most loyal fans around…but, with a lousy owner and a very poor GM, I don’t blame the players at all for wanting to escape Looneyville!

  38. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

Jhall – I read that article/blog first thing this morning, and I really think it was just Andre being realistic. He’s right, how many Dodgers have we seen lately make it past 6 years? And, with Frank as owner, is he really going to be able to afford to keep all of them that will be up for new contracts. If he has a great year (Andre will be out to prove you wrong Bear!! LOL!! ), whether he is eligible for free agency or not, they are going to have to pay him (and Matt) if they want them to be happy. Andre is in a win, win situation. If he has a great year, everyone will want him and Frank will have to pony up the money to keep him, and even if he has a average year (like Bear thinks), he becomes victim to a GM and an owner who are absolutely horrible, and he would be traded to a team that actually gives a damn about baseball. So, Andre has a right to be realistic in his thinking. The fans sure are, and it’s about time a player steps up and says the same thing. You want him to be a leader. Well, IMO, he just did that……….being realistic is part of what ballplayers go through I am sure. I just don’t think we are used to hearing it from Andre.

We need to get helmet stickers like they have in college football!!! When you make a great play, get a game winning hit, make a quality start, or save/hold a game you get a white star on you batting helmet. When you screw up, you get a steaming pile of doggy doo sticker. Just place one over the other and see who is a star and who is doggy doo when the season ends!!!

Well, win or lose, I just want to say I’m proud and grateful to be an American!!! I want to thank all who serve now and all who have gone before, served, fought, and died for what we enjoy today. Watching the news today is a big wake up. Most places in the world are in turmoil, tragedy, tyranny, oppression, ignorance, want, and strife. Kicking it on the couch, watching the Dodgers, and sipping a cocktail is not to be taken for granted!!!! It was paid for in American blood and spirit!!!! I will still get riled up when the Dodgers screw up and underperform, however, I will keep things in perspective!!! We are blessed my fellow ITDer’s!!! GO DODGERS!!!!

  53. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

    yeah – mine worked!!!

I am going to enjoy watching Andre and the Dodgers play this season. I am a 100% Ethieraholic, and I will stick by Andre as long as he is wearing Dodger blue, and then some. It’s an addiction I know, but I have really not had much to say about the goings on until this last day or so. It takes people messing with Andre to get me all riled up. It’s what made me start reading and eventually writing on ITD in the first place.

    GO DODGERS!!!!

  54. colliethec's avatar

Yep Collie, it is cause for concern!!! I’d sure like to be riding my bike and playing little league baseball back in the mid 60’s sometimes!!!!

  55. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

Okay – I think it’s working now because I see Andre – yeah!!!

My Ethieraholicism is in full force today. I am going to enjoy him play this season and hope for the best. I stand by what he said 100% because I believe in my heart he was just honestly answering a question, and I think people were surprised he said what he said. Andre is what got me involved in ITD in the first place, and I owe it to him for all the wonderful things that have happened to and with this group. Jhall said it best. It’s all perspective and what happens happens in baseball (just like Andre was trying to say himself IMO). As Dodgereric loves to say….this is our toy store, no matter how screwed up it is right now, and hopefully the toys inside will be fixed someday. However until then, I am going to enjoy watching these boys play baseball.

Yep Trumom, but we’ll being seeing alot of him. He needs to go down for now. If we’re circling the drain in July, we will see him. If not, in Sept. I would like to see if he can play 3rd.

Last year Uribe had the following stats…
    BA .248 OBP .310 TB 229 HR 24 2B 24 RBI 85 SLG .440
OPS .749 SO 92 SB 1 CS 2 BB 45. He was considered to have a great year.
    .
    Kemps…
    BA .249 OBP .310 TB 271 HR 28 2B 25 RBI 89 SLG ..450
OPS .760 SO 170 SB 19 CS 15 BB 53. He as considered to have a down year.
    .
The stats are pretty similar. Kemp has more K’s by far but other they were close.
    .
I was just thinking about it the other day because the other day while listening to the Giants game they were going on about how great of a year Juan had last year.
    .
    Just a thought…

    colliethec

I was just thinking about the other avatars that would show up as well Nelly. What’s Shad going to have?!!! I’m excited to see what people come up with!
    .
Kemp had so many K’s in key situations. That was a big problem. I think he just pressed so much. If he isn’t cutting it in the 4th spot I hope Donny will think of putting him in the 2 hole.

  62. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

LOL!!!! Collie – We were thinking the same thing about Shad. I want to see what enchanted, messagebear, and Eric come up with too 🙂

  63. nellyjune's avatar
    nellyjune

Collie – as fast as Matt is, I think he would do well in the 2-hole if the 4-hole isn’t working for him. However, if spring is any indication, then it seems to be working for him so far. Andre had a great double tonight so he seems to be getting in his lefty groove as well.

Can’t say I was too pleased with Ethier’s comments. This isn’t the first time he’s intimated he wants OUT. We get it, Andre. Ownership is in the toilet. But don’t air it to the media vultures. Nothing good can come of it.

    .
I was okay with his comments. He answered a question and didn’t say the same old thing which I can appreciate. The truth is tough to swallow for us but this is part of the process to get a new contract. There have been a couple of comments and an article that I’ve seen that make a lot of sense that have defended him. I feel that him stating what he stated wasn’t horrible. I wish he went further with it. I hope Nedco get the point and get him a contract. I feel that he will be gone when he has a chance. It will be a big loss for the team, fans and city.
    .
I didn’t like the timing however.

    • dodgereric's avatar
      dodgereric

Hi collie, seems a lot like when Manny said last spring (to the surprise of absolutely no one) that he wasn’t going to be back. That was a tempest in a teapot too.

    • nellyjune's avatar
      nellyjune

I agree…the timing was crappy, but when has Frank or Ned ever worried about timing? Frank is known for having horrible timing (announcing his divorce the day before a playoff game, and look at what Ned did to Matt last season. Shouldn’t the timing of the question be suspect as well? Yes, it’s the reporters job, but what prompted the question in the first place?

    .
I pretty much agree with the player moves that were made down the stretch. Whats the word on X Man? I’m guessing he’s probably going to be gone. I like him and his potential but all spring I watched him swing the bat and miss. It was like he had a bat with a hole in it. I like Elbert but he still needs some work. I hope he can get it and gain some confidence. He seems like a good dude.

Yeah, there’s a box for placing a website on the sign-in location. I shoved that in there just for fun. It’s underlined as you see it? On my laptop it’s in italics like everyone else’s, but it’s red, like the “reply” link. Interesting.

Nevermind – we are talking about two different things. You are talking about right underneath your comments, and I am talking about the side bar letting the readers know who has commented recently. Yes, your name is in red italics in that case, and your name is underlined over on the side bar. Now, I get it! LOL!!!

5 players are starting on the DL. It will be interesting to see how the DL is manipulated……I mean managed this year with Donnie.

Glad he made it Nelly. It will be interesting to see what happens with the DL. The players that made it were for the most part the ones that played well in ST. Donny didn’t just go with PVL’s like Joe would of.

I am glad to see that change too Collie. In addition to Xman, I was glad to see DeJesus getting in on the roster as well as all the other nice surprises.

Barry Zito was in a car accident in West Hollywood tonight. He is scheduled to start in the 4th game. There are no reports at this time as to what injuries he has sustained, but, he was taken by ambulance and later released. It didn’t appear he suffered any major injuries.

Dodgereric – my first “nevermind” comment was held saying “didn’t you already say that?”. I didn’t think it was still going to post so I rewrote it in different way. I guess they both decided to show up.

Well, at least he is on the warning list. Enchanted has yet to make it on here with an avatar of his own. He and Bear just may be eliminated before they can even start – lol!!!! jk boys – it wouldn’t be ITD without you 🙂

In that case, Oldbrooklyn fan made the list too, and Jhall must be flying under the radar because his name is just normal like the rest of us – lol!!

Sorry to hear that — I’m off sucka’s!!! I of course say that jokingly because if you knew me well you would know that isn’t Colliespeak.

Take care all… Nice “playing” with you all tonight! Happy Opening Day!! IMO it should be a national holiday.

    Happy (belated?) Birthday Eric!

Late night at work tonight, but I wanted to check in and see the updates, looking good. I see the blog’s title hasn’t changed to “Inside the Yang-Na‘s”, that’s good, too.

One of the best things I can see right away is that we now can use HTML tags in our comments, which can add a LOT more fun in expressing yourself.

“What’s my opinion of Kingman’s performance? WHAT THE $#@$#@ DO YOU THINK IS MY OPINION OF IT?!!

Also, if you really want, you can type with utilize play with use italics and strikeout text.

And there’s a bunch of stuff I’m not even sure how to use, I should find out…. but if nothing else, I hope that link above works, otherwise this is gonna be one messed up looking post.

Happy early Opening Day Night, everyone!

Here we are on opening day – root for the best and settle for whatever comes.

We’ll probably see on ESPN some of the banners flown around courtesy of the Giant fans. Wish we had gotten together to pay for one that says SELL THE TEAM.

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!

Messagebear is using a cute, fuzzy teddybear to make you all think it is safe to go near him, and then BAM!!! He lashes out and rips Frank and Ned a new one (and any player, coach or manager that is not doing their job). Then after his moment, he goes back to being the cute, fuzzy bear we all know and love. I LOVE IT!!!

    HAPPY OPENING DAY!!!

My classroom is celebrating tomorrow with a classroom program for our parents and 4th grade reading buddies and more activities in the afternoon, including watching a game hopefully. (We can’t do much fun stuff during the week anymore – boss lady doesn’t like it 😦 ). I took the concepts I have done all along and put them into a program for more learning about this sport we love so much. I have some true die hard gnat fans in here that will not touch a Dodger logo to save their life. It’s the first time I have an actual rivalry with students where they say they hate the Dodgers. It’s funny but kind of scary too. We need to win tonight to shut them up for at least tomorrow 🙂

    GO DODGERS!!!!

Hiya tru! Long time-no time. At least you know how to use a smiley face.

I just tried planting one of those things right next to a word and nothing happened. 😦

Interesting that my name isn’t in red any more. Maybe it’s because I’m not at my home email address. Well, gotta go and get something worthwhile done.
Like putting together my 784th anti-mccourt letter to the Times.

Can’t stick around long; got a lot to do. But had to come onto ITD and say…

IT’S TIME FOR DODGER BASEBALL!!! (I’ve been waiting to say this for a LONG LONG TIME!!!)
    GO DODGERS!!!
    GO CLAYTON!!!

Good luck on the letter to the Times. May you get your 784th published 🙂

D4 & Enchanted & anyone else having issues — try typing in “inside the dodgers” in the website section. It asks for you name and e-mail but doesn’t require the website. However I wasn’t getting through until I added that. Maybe this will help!

Happy Opening Day everybody!! Go Blue!!!

Using tags is kinda easy, once you get the hang of it.
    .
The real, pointy brackets above the comma and period buttons disappear once you type them, because the computer thinks you’re typing code. So to demonstrate, I’ll use parentheses where the pointy brackets would go.
    .
Number one rule of HTML tags is that you have to close them with a /. Here’s an example to show why:

    .
Say you want to bolden just one word. Type in “This is getting to be (b)really(/b) irritating! ”
    .
and it will look like this: “This is getting to be really irritating!”
    .
If you don’t put in that (/b) in there, the whole rest of the sentence will be bolded, so if you type this: “This is getting to be (b)really irritating!” , you’ll get this: “This is getting to be really irritating!”
    .
If you don’t close the tag with the (/b), everything will be bold after you use it, so “This is becoming really irritating! But at least it’s sunny outside. Did you hear about what happened to blah blah blah ?” would end up being “”This is becoming really irritating! But at least it’s sunny outside. Did you hear about what happened to blah blah blah ?”
    .
So here’s a rundown of which tags do what (that I know, which is only a few of these):
    .
(a href=””)(/a): this one is the code you use for creating your own links, with whatever words you want for the link, instead of the full http address. For example, in my post from last night, I referenced the hideous, was-he-kidding-or-wasn’t-he “Yang-Na’s” article from the LA Times by doing this: “Inside the (a href=”http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-furgatch-yangnas-20110329,0,5705233.story”) Yang-Na(/a) ‘s” And it made this: “Inside the Yang-Na ‘s”. You only need to type (/a) to close this tag, you don’t have to type the rest. But remember to close the tag, otherwise the whole rest of your post will become a link to that article. And don’t forget to put the whole address between quote marks, otherwise you get funny results.
    .
(b)(/b): This makes words bold. You already know this one from above.
    .
(i)(/i): Italics. You can use these to make your posts say what you really wanna say.
    .
(strike)(/strike): My favorite, Strikeout text! Place words inbetween these tags to make it look like you crossed out some text. So you can do things like this: “This is pathetic WONDERFUL!”. Strikeout is the lifeblood for internet cynicism.
    .
And… that’s all I know of these tags on the bottom. I’m curious to find out what the others are.
    .

Well, apparently not, or it may require a different HTML designation code than what I’m used to for purposes of color.

Nelly, I only used the () so the tags would show up in the comments. Instead of ( and ), you want to use the pointy brackets that are on the “,” and “.” keys on your keyboard.
