A room full of legends…

Each year, one of the highlights of January is the Southern California Sports Broadcasters awards luncheon. The organization, which recently launched a website, has members that are a who’s who of media members and those in the So Cal world of sports. It was truly a room full of legends.

At today’s luncheon, among the attendees and/or honorees were SCSB Hall of Famers Vin Scully, Jaime Jarrin, Bob Miller, Tom Kelly, Nick Nickson, Mike Walden, Rich Marotta and Ross Porter. Others with incredible backgrounds include Charley Steiner, Steve Lyons, Jim Fox, Luc Robitaille, Ken Levine, Josh Suchon, John Ireland and so many others.

Lifetime achievement awards went to Bill Sharman and Louis Zamperini whose histories will blow your mind. If you don’t know about them, check out the links on each guy. It’s mind boggling. Al Michaels won the President’s Award and told a really funny story about being “groomed to replace Vin Scully” and 40-something years later, the odds are even that he’ll retire before Vinny.

Among the Dodger folks who won awards today were Vin, Fernando Valenzuela, Rick Monday, Eric Karros and the sports crew at KCAL/CBS.

Our sincere congrats go out to everyone involved in putting on this event and hopefully you’ll spend a little time looking through the site of this great organization.

Congrats to all our Dodger award winners. Thanks Josh for all you do. I hope you are still working on fixing our/this blog and the submission errors, time warps, etc…. I got submission errored trying to post this comment and I’ve made only one comment all day. Geez!!!!

Thanks for the new thread Josh!!!

Vin and Fernando are a given when it comes to recognition for their hard work with Dodgers, but I am glad to see Rick Monday be recognized as well. He deserves it just for putting up with Charlie – lol!!!!

    How ya doing Jhall? 🙂

I think if we can stay healthy(especially Furcal), we have a good shot at making the G’nats sweat for the west. It will be interesting to see where Brox’s head and weight are. We need him to get his crap together.

Doing pretty good Jhall!! No major complaints anyway 🙂

I don’t think any teams in the west division are a whole lot different than last year so on paper, this division is up for grabs. It’s kind of like the NFC West in football. That division sucked, but they still managed to get past the first round if playoffs.

Thanks JOSH for the the updates and congratulations to all the winners.

Can’t wait for Spring Training! Let’s go Dodgers!

nelly, a mental midget could have foreseen that only together could Barbie and Ken retain control of the team. So where does that put these two Neanderthals in the pecking order of brains? And what does it say about their egos? Their shenanigans were a complete waste of time and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. The piles of dirt littering the stadium have more common sense.

It is being reported on both Facebook and Twiiter that Frank and Jamie may have to remain business partners in order to keep the Dodgers in the family – blah!!!!

Submission error hell is in full force tonight 😦

Collie – Thanks for posting that article. Let’s hope it is not just Dodger fans reading those comments. Hopefully, someone who can stop this travesty before it’s too late.

    HI ITD!!
I haven’t had much to comment about on the Dodgers and still don’t, but have some observations waiting for their conclusion.
Ned: He got a starting pitching staff together before Spring Training, thats an improvement over 2010.
Joe: Gone as manager, but talking with Bud selig about a job, Umm will this lead to recommendations that Frank is, and always was, not competent to be an MLB owner. Bud wake up or is your agenda to stop the biggest media market west from acquiring more $$$ to develop an championship team.
Frank: You are on a sinking ship, it shouldn’t of been, but you didn’t know how the guns worked. You aimed at the deck and hit the red button. WTF Ned worked for the gnats duffus, Jason schmidt, andruw jones, not offering to hudson or wolf, loss of draft picks, dotel, and the loss of our farm.
Jaime: got off the ship, but she knew you, I didn’t.
2006: The old meet the in the dugout, it wasn’t pretty, but the old are gone and the young are getting older. It is a real shame now to see the great potential on the field, just short a Ace pitcher (need $$$ to buy, frank), and see them eyeing the life boats for an escape. The recent rosters could have brought that ring, but the ownership didnt realize their customer are the fans, the city and the goal was a ring, not a house, a prestige or attaining more $$$. A baseball owner needs to be a self sufficient fan, and the ultimate pleasure is staffing that team to become the champion.
I look back and I am in awe that the dodgers were a winning consistency, nearly 50 years with just two managers, longest infield in tact, rookies of the year, pitching fundamentals and execution with dominance.
You could almost pick which decade of the dodgers you were talking about by just a mention of the starting catcher.
Sad those days are gone. Frank, Be Gone! and it won’t be so sad.

Regarding Mike Trout, the #1 prospect in all of baseball:
    .
“Mike Trout has tremendous upside,” Scioscia said. “He can really run, and he can do a lot of things on the field, offensively and defensively. Obviously, we’re extremely high on him. He’s an exciting player with a tremendous attitude.
    .
“At some point, if you project where Mike’s going to be. I’d be surprised if he’s not on our depth chart at some time late in the year. I’m not saying he’s going to get called up. He’s obviously opened up a lot of eyes. WHEN HE’S READY, HE’LL GET AN OPPORTUNITY.” [emphasis mine]

Meanwhile back in L.A., Ned Colletti said, “Boy I wish we had a prospect like Trout. If I couldn’t find a way to block him with a broken down PVL or two I bet I could get Dotel back for him… well, only if I packaged him with another prospect or two.”

enchanted – you have countless songs (I am sure Eric has the exact number), you have done dialogues, and you have done your fair share of everything else in between. However, this is just incredible!!!! I am impressed and embarrassed…. Impressed by your creative genius, and embarrassed that I know all those songs – LOL!!!!! ..but then so do you!!! LMAO!!! Job well done sir!!!!

I was OK with Lincecum smoking weed…but to read that he sings to Hall and Oates in his car? Come on Timmy, SF was the breeding ground for great smokin’ bands of the 60s. Someone please get this guy some Dead or Airplane or even Janis…

  14. enchantedbeaver

    Thanks Nells! 🙂
    .
And I don’t even like Hall & Oates.

Can’t wait for this season to start though. So many songs. So little time…

Kpookie – I CAN’T GO FOR THAT – no can do, but maybe you could hire a couple of PRIVATE EYES to tail that RICH GIRL… er I mean boy before SHE’S GONE… crap… I mean before he’s gone to spring training and becomes a MANEATER of righties again. I admit, he’s pretty OUT OF TOUCH. Maybe he’ll add KISS ON MY LIST of bands he listens to. I’d like to think that when he matures, he’ll even become a FAMILY MAN for something that he DID IT IN A MINUTE that made SARA SMILE in a little ONE ON ONE when she said YOU MAKE MY DREAMS COME TRUE. Oh I know what you’re thinking – SAY IT ISN’T SO, and a little ADULT EDUCATION would’ve been more approriate than his METHOD OF MODERN LOVE, but if you work hard enough EVERYTHING YOUR HEART DESIRES will come true.

  16. nellyjune

Koufax – it sure is!!! If we take the opening series against them that might shut them up for a little while.

  17. nellyjune

Enchanted – I am sure you have songs already done for just the right occasion should it present itself – LOL!!
