Postseason Bound!!!

A little late on this post, but worth the wait, right?? The place was nuts last night, so hopefully everyone has saved some energy for the postseason! Believe it or not, we’re the only NL team to go to the playoffs three of the last four years and four of the last six. There’s something to be said for that, I think.

Game 1 will be Wednesday at 6:37 p.m. with Randy Wolf on the hill and Game 2 will be at 3:07 p.m. with Clayton Kershaw on the hill.

Hope you’ll all be here supporting your team as you have all year long! And if you can’t be here, tune in on TBS on KABC 790/KHJ 930.

Pierre was presented with the team’s fourth annual Roy Campanella Award by Campy’s daughter, Joni Roan, in a pregame ceremony

    I didn’t even know that.

Saturday was an ugly anniversary for the Dodgers on several counts. In 1951, Ralph Branca gave up a three-run homer by Bobby Thomson in the bottom of the ninth inning at New York’s Polo Grounds as the New York Giants won the NL pennant with a stunning 5-4 win in the deciding game of a three-game playoff.

In 1962, the Dodgers lost the third and deciding game of another three-game playoff with the Giants, who rallied with four runs in the ninth to win 6-4 at Los Angeles and advanced to the World Series.

I didn’t realize there was a new thread, lol. I would have thought they would have taken Andre out by now so he could have his moment to be appreciated by the fans. Isn’t Jamie Hoffman available?

I give a pass for Padilla getting picked off second base but there is no excuse for that happening to Repko. I HATE to see mental errors like that. Repko has a history of making stupid mistakes in the guise of being enthusiastic and hard charging. He must have a pea sized brain or something. Compare him to Manny. Manny looks lazy sometimes the way he goes after balls. But Manny immediately can judge where a ball is going and how much effort is needed. He knows he can no matter how hard he tries or how fast he runs, certain balls are going to be a double no matter what so he just takes it easy and casually gets the ball back to the infield. He also knows when to just turn and watch a ball sail over the fence. Repko, on the other hand, seems to have some delusions that he can get to balls no matter what so he has crashed into the wall on a home run 4 or 5 rows in the bleachers. I’m sorry to vent like this but it REALLY steams me when I see a MLB player that makes stupid mental mistakes.

Oh yeah I forgot Castro can played his 3rd career games in LF his 2nd this year and I thought Loretta already PH.

Come on Troncoso time to get a useless save for #5 of the year. Urgh walk and a hit dang and we need the light out Troncoso back

  7. knouffbrock@frontiernet.net

Got to thinking about the playoff roster and wrote down the names of the guys I would take. Came up with 5 to many. Joe and staff have some tough choices to make Tuesday night.

  8. shad80

The Dodgers, who outscored their opponents 121-54 in the first, took a 4-0 lead in the opening inning on a two-run single by Casey Blake(notes) and RBI singles by Doug Mientkiewicz(notes) and A.J. Ellis(notes).

I’m praying we jump out to a huge 1st inning lead but it’s not going to be tough. I wish Ausmus would had used Haeger instead of Troncoso.

    Dodgers Drained?

With the victory on Saturday, the Dodgers not only clinched the West but the best record in National League. That hasn’t been the best omen in the past. Here’s a look:
    Dodgers with Best NL Record
Divisional Era (since 1969) Year Record Result

    1978 95-67 L, WS

Well, it’s a great day when you see Enchanted back to his usual self, for the time being anyway. ………….And Beav, I have gotten used to you coming and going, and thanks for checking in while you were away. However, Ward Dear/Your father may have some words for you.

Since my phone kept me in the loop today, it seemed like a great game today for a season finale. The Cards are going to be tough, but the playoffs are a whole new ballgame, and anything can happen, especially when you have home field advantage.

  11. 32and53fan

That was a nice way to end the regular season. Torre has his work cut out coming up with the playoff roster. I am looking forward to Wednesday.

There are some good photos on Sons of Steve Garvey if you have a chance. One of the photos is calling out all Ethieraholics. It’s great to see our ITD name being used on other blogs. There is another photo of Andre and Matt…………Andre on Matt’s back with the caption reading “31 homeruns on top of 26 homeruns.” What a Dynamic Duo they have been this year.

  14. nellyjune

Hey Enchantedsunset!!!!! It is really good to see you back and looking like yourself again, for now anyway I am sure 🙂

These submission errors are just brutal. I have been trying to make this post for 15 minutes eventhough this one will probably time warp me like it was 2 minutes ago.

  15. dodgereric

Well, well, well. Enchantedsunset, we kept your place at the table. Welcome back, son!

So, who’s on our playoff roster? The givens:

    1 1B Loney
    2 2B Hudson
    3 3B Blake
    4 SS Furcal
    5 LF Ramirez
    6 CF Kemp
    7 RF Ethier
    8 C Martin
    9 OF Pierre
    10 IF Belliard
    11 IF Loretta
    12 C Ausmus
    13 SP Wolf
    14 SP Kershaw
    15 SP Padilla
    16 RP Broxton
    17 RP Sherrill
    18 RP Troncoso
    19 RP Belisario
    20 RP Kuo

That’s 12 position players and 8 pitchers. Most of the season I think we carried 12 pitchers, but I think Torre took 11 into the ’08 playoffs and I think he’ll do it again, which means adding 3 more:

21 SP Garland (Torre always talks about him being a playoff pitcher)
22 SP Billingsley (He’ll make it unless he bombs in Arizona)

That leaves a choice between Mota and Weaver.

23 RP Mota (We’ll have Garland and/or Billz to be a 4th starter and long man)

OK, two more subs. We need more lefties on the bench.

24 IF Mientkiewicz (Torre loves him and I do too)
25 IF Thome (I’ll bet Torre loves to have him on the bench and wants to keep him active for the Series)

There’s a possibility that Castro might supplant Thome until we get to the AL opponent, but I doubt it.

So there’s my prediction. Not necessarily who I want, but my prediction. What do you think? I believe they have until 7AM (Pacific) on Wednesday to submit it, so we probably have some time to banter about it.

I’m hoping we’ve shaken the offensive doldrums now and can move aggressively into the postseason. One things’ for sure, no one else is setting the world on fire at the moment either.

Good night good people! And may God Bless you all!
    Go Big Blue!!!!

  16. crzblue2

    Good morning ITDers!
Congratulations to the Dodgers! Their staff, the fans!! The Bums did it!!!
Now lets get ready for Wednesday!
    .
    True!
Drop me a note in my blog so that I can have your email address and tell me where you are sitting. I already forgot(signs of senility) but I think is field level under the covered area. You might have a little problem watching the screen but you will have a great view of the field. During the playoffs, they get strict on fans going to other levels so I’ll see if I can see you at your seat or come to the Top Deck aisle 3 last row (The penthouse view!).

JOSH…I will never run out of energy for my Dodgers….GOOOO DODGERS WOOOOOHOOOOO! Hey spot you out on the videos over at dodgers.com. You were standing near Frank & Ned when they were hugging…it sure was a great night.
    *
EMMA: The penthouse view….LOVE IT! Hey it is where you can see all the Stadium action and beautiful Downtown L.A.
    *
Hey ITD we don’t have to wait a whole week this time for the 1st game of the playoffs….GOOOOO DODGERS

  18. thinkingblue

NELLY – just saw the picture of Andre taking a beer shower dedicated to all the Ethieraholics…great one…LOVE IT! ETHIERAHOLICS will be use by many more in DodgerWorld (great job Eric for coming up with such a wonderful name and NELLY & TRU for being such great endorsers of the name)

  19. nellyjune

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!!

Dodgereric – I haven’t sat down and really looked at the roster, but your prediction looks pretty good.

Rose – It is pretty cool that they are using our name in other forums.

Of course the east coast bias at work again are picking the Cards to win, but it’s okay…………….they also thought the Cubs would be us too.

  20. thinkingblue

NELLY TRU…it is great the people higher up in Dodger Management are using the term. But I think it will be awsome when ETHIER himself comes out and uses the term “ETHIERAHOLICS”.
    *
And YES we have a tough play off series agains the CARDS but we will win it all!

  21. nellyjune

    sorry – red pen:
east coast bias “is at ” work again………
    ~and~
……..they also thought the Cubs would “beat” us too.

  22. trublu4ever

msdodgersrule ~ I think it is awesome that others have been using “Ethieraholic”. I think it means that people outside our ITD family have been reading our blog. It is very easy, once you meet him, to think Andre is somebody special.
    .
I can’t wait for the series with the Cardinals to begin and I love the fact that nobody thinks we don’t stand a chance. We will prove once again that when our team clicks on all aspects of the game, we are a team to be reckoned with.
    .
With our Dynamic Duo and the rest of our Fine Nine, we are the DODGERS and we are GOING TO WIN THE WHOLE THING THIS YEAR!!!!

  23. cpompe1

YEAH!!! It took a LONG time, but we got what we wanted! NL West Division Champs and HF advantage!!! Actually on Saturday, we were at a concert. But it got done and we got to the car just in time to hear last three outs!!! Great going JB!!! I’m going to the game on Thursday. Don’t know where I’ll be sitting though. I’ll be with my mom, who is one of two that have the same season seats; they share. There are 2 additional seats. I think my mom will get her usual seats on Wednesday, and the other guy will get the “other” 2 seats, but on Thursday, I think that’s reversed. But at least I’ll be there!!!

Emma – I put a quick little post on your blog; great pics! That one of Andre and his son is just precious!

This is a short little post; I’ve got a bunch of stuff to do, so I’ve gotta go. But I’ll catch up with y’all later…

    GO DODGERS!!!
    GO WOLFY!!!

I was only three years old in 1951 so I only know what happened from the accounts and old films. However, I still get depressed whenever that situation is brought up and especially when I see the clip the the home run. The lasting image is Branca with his head down.

I do remember 1962 and how depressed I was at the Dodgers losing that playoff game, especially taking a lead into the ninth inning at home. The season had been really exciting with Maury Wills stealing bases and the tight race with the Giants. Dodger Stadium opened that season. I think Sandy Koufax had 13 wins by the first half but was lost for the season with a strange injury when he lost feeling in the middle finger of his left hand. The worst thing was not only did the Dodgers lose a playoff game that deprived them of going to the World Series, they lost to the hated Giants. The good news is the Giants lost that series.

Being silly is more like it!!! LOL!!!!

lbirken – I wasn’t around in ’62 and I was only a year and a half in ’67. So, all my knowledge is what I have read, either in books or on here ITD.

  32. lbirken@aol.com

Eric, you know it. Never boring, often downright disturbingly frustrating and very often heart stopping. There is no logic to why we go through all this aggravation and sometimes I do envy just a little those folks who are not crazy enough to be sucked into the life of a sports fan. Of course, that feeling goes away quickly.

Nelly, then you know that in every decade since the 1940’s through the 1980’s the Dodgers appeared in the World Series multiple times in each of those decades. They did not win most of those series but they were there. They missed out on appearing in a few more by losing playoffs. For years they teased Brooklyn fans, finally winning in 1955 and I can only imagine how Dodger fans felt when that happened. The Dodgers have had more success in Los Angeles. Think about it; Brooklyn fans waited years to finally win a championship while L.A. fans waited one year! We expect the Dodgers to compete for a championship every year. Beating the Giants? That’s nice but not enough for Dodger fans.

  33. Dodger4life

lbirken, I also am too young to remember those years, however I feel your pain…….
    .
More useless information…….I will be lucky to remember one of these let alone 20%….

    Some more good ones Dodger4life.

lbirken – I certainly have read about it, and yes, it has been a painful journey for some. And you are right, Dodger fans are never happy just beating the Giants……………it usually requires both……….beating the Giants and a Title to be fully happy.

Emma, it’s “to be determined” because the DET-MIN game still has to be played, at which point the Yankees have until an hour after the completion of the game to choose whether they want the 7 day series, or the 8 day series.

If the Yanks choose the 8 game series, our game 2 will be at 3:07. If they choose the 7 game series, our game 2 will be at 6:37.
    http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/ps.jsp?y=09

Personally, I blame Bristol CT, Roger Goodell and that crybaby Kleenex spokesman Brett Farve, because they could’ve found another arrangement for Farve and Green Bay’s regular season p*ssing contest. I bet the Twin(kie)s will be glad to get out of the Dome and these scheduling conflicts once and for all… whenever they’re done playing.

  36. crzblue2

    Thanks NSB!
So why did Josh posted in here that it was 3:07. That is crazy for people that have to make arrangements to get to the game. I guess I’ll tell my boss on Wednesday what time I am leaving on Thursday.

  37. lbirken@aol.com

crzblue2, silly you for thinking games are played for the convenience of the ticket buying fans actually attending games. They are played for the convenience of the broadcasters and the eastern time zone. No matter what day or time a game is played, a lot of people are going to be inconvenienced. Obviously, the games are played to attract the most viewers so the networks can charge the highest advertising prices. There is no concern for the late afternoon traffic or crazy shadows for games played in the west at 5:00 PM nor the silliness of east coast games ending well after midnight local time. Such is the price we pay for all the games to be on TV.

lbirken I am a product of 65, which puts my hey day in the 70’s……Garvey, Cey, Russell, Lopes, Yeager and so forth….
    .
I can remember how disappointing it was to come up short, although I am foggy on the details, too many concussions perhaps. I do remember loving those guys year after year and the excitement that came with each opportunity. This is baseball, where obtaining the ring is a privilege, not something you can achieve at the drop of a hat. To be in the position to get there is a battle in itself, with all the personnel changes from year to year, the changes within the season, from trades to injuries, to the chemistry of playing well as a team. These youngsters that lace em up this year have been a outright pleasure to watch at least for me…..Win or lose I will respect them for what they gave me in the way of enjoyment.
I will however suffer the good with the bad right there with them, as I have have in the past…..I will go through my rituals, and pay homage to my superstitions along the way….I will never give up hope, believing that this year belongs to me and my bums, and that the momentum and magic will align with the willpower and ability to win the ball game. I have faith in them as a team as a group that they will achieve their goals. Every rally starts with a positive action on your side of the game, and that breeds more positive action, it can be downright contagious….even with two outs in the deciding game of a big series, against any team, under any circumstance…….never give up hope and never under estimate your power to overcome odds.

    GO GET EM BOY’S!!!!!!!
THIS IS THE DODGERS YEAR!!!! MAKE THE MAGIC HAPPEN!!!

  39. truebluewill

Emma ~ Where are you sitting? I’ll be in field level Section 1FD Row U Seat 7. I’ll be getting to the stadium when the gates open. How about you? Maybe we can say hello?

  40. dodgereric

Wow, TBW! That’s a great seat! You must know some VIP!

North, don’t forget to include Kommisar Bud as he genuflects to the New York Baseball Yankees. “Gosh George, when would you like to play? Take your time in answering, the rest of the teams can wait……” But, as lbirken says, that’s the price we pay.

Although, again going to the memory banks, I remember watching games on TV in the gym and having to devise all sorts of ways to catch the games on the sly during school – such as hiding transistor radios in jackets on hot days with the earpiece running inside the sleeve.

    Those were the days……

  41. trublu4ever

I enjoyed watched games played in the good ol’ sunshine, Dodgereric. Of course, that was before the executives decided almost every game should be played at night. That’s great for the kids who have to go to school the next day. We are supposed to be getting the children interested in our beloved past-time. Instead, they hardly ever get to see a game.

  42. knouffbrock@frontiernet.net

eric- I used the jacket and radio combo myself. For a while these white, canvas surplus parkas were the fad. They were for the ski troops and were just one layer of canvas. Not to hot to wear come World Series time. Maybe you remember them. They were popular with the surf kids.

  43. trublu4ever

lbirken ~ my point about day games is that baseball people wonder why kids aren’t interested in playing baseball anymore. Unless you live close to a stadium and have the luxury of going to a game in person, the only way kids can see the games is on TV. I know they play almost all of the games at night and I don’t object to it…but, it is wonderful to sit in the sunshine for a day game. And, you make my point, ibirken, they just cannot stay up that late.

  44. Dodger4life

Enchanted I look forward to your litigation and await the results eagerly…….I am sure you will have top notch counsel, as opposed to my $2 hack….However, keep in mind you may only be successful in obtaining another onion and some waded up gum from under the jury desk……. Your victory shall be Vidalia Sweet, and bubblicious, which as you stated in your briefs wont keep either one of us from crying……

  45. nellyjune

Dodgereric – It’s not any different today with phones and computers, is it? The technology is just better, and you don’t have to worry about anybody hearing because you can just turn the sound off if you need to. We can, if we choose to, watch the game from anywhere and now……..at anytime with archived games and such. I watched the entire game late last night since I couldn’t be there at home to watch it in the afternoon. I had to see them come off the field one by one. It’s one of those things Dodger fans have to see.

  46. lbirken@aol.com

Eric, I remember those days as well although I never used the jacket. I would go home for lunch just to see one inning of a game. I still remember out teacher letting us watch the Dodgers-White Sox series game in 1959 on TV in the classroom.

I can understand why some people prefer day games but I reject the argument about playing them for the kids. As far as I am concerned, sportswriters (and there aren’t that many left anymore who actually write for a newspaper) liked to make that argument when in fact they just did not like the tight deadlines of the night games. Most kids are in school when a lot of playoff and series games are played so they wouldn’t see them anyway. I like the games being played at night since most of the games during the regular season are played at night. I think playing weekend games during the day might be o.k. but these days baseball has to compete with college and pro football.

Look at it this way. Most of us in the west don’t see the beginnings of the games but we see the end. My son, who lives in North Carolina, misses the ends of many games as he just cannot stay up that late.

  47. lbirken@aol.com

This time warp thing is annoying. I have forced myself to scroll up just to make sure I havn’t missed anything. What a bother.

I still see a lot of kids and young adults at Dodger games but the conventional wisdom says kids prefer the “cooler” sports of basketball and football. Those sports are faster and more glamorous and have done a much better job marketing their product. College basketball and football are big time but college baseball isn’t. I drive by some little league fields in my area and there are still kids playing but then agian I don’t live in the inner city where kids can play pick up basketball games so much easier than baseball. I don’t think it has much to do with when the games are played. They play most football games on weekends and most basketball games are played at night.

    Anyway, have great evening.

  48. enchantedbeaver

Crap, forgot there isn’t a “Y” in Hanes. Made more sense that Fruit of the Loom though. Now look, the whole damn joke is ruined. Now I have to add mental anguish to the list.

  49. jhallwally

LOL!!! Beav, you need to sue Ned for the undue pain and suffering!!! For the cows, schidts, etc.. we’ve had to endure. Frank should sue him for dereliction of duty and inappropriation of funds!!!!

  50. jhallwally

I’d almost bet Ned got a kickback on the Schidt deal. Must have slipped Conte a few bucks to go along. Its either that or they are just plain stupid!!! You make the call. Obviously injured player that no one else wanted, and Ned signs him. Something not Kosher going on!!!

  51. trublu4ever

I heard the other day, that he is going to be given a 3 year extention at the end of the season. They didn’t want to say anything to distrupt the playoffs. (Is it extention or extension?) lol

  52. jhallwally

Being a GM is not that hard. Just don’t ever take a chance on players that Atlanta gives up on, deal with the Indians and Pirates, and don’t sign pitchers or position players over 32 with a history of injuries!!!!

  53. Dodger4life

I have obtained Russell, and Spaulding thier offices are on 42DD Atheletic Supporter Drive, Longhandle Virginia….

  54. trublu4ever

Being manager isn’t either, Jhall. Brad Ausmus did a fine job yesterday! He even put himself in as a pinch runner! lol

  55. enchantedbeaver

I for one really don’t want to see Torre put himself in as a pinch runner.

I’ve always been an athletic supporter D4!!

  56. jhallwally

Oh well, I guess it is apparent how we feel about Ned!!! I wonder how Dad/Eric feels? LOL!!! Anyway, the real work starts Wednesday!!!

  57. jhallwally

LOL Nelly!!! Yep, I guess so, but you or dad could do a better job as the GM!!! I wish that was a joke!!!

  58. trublu4ever

I really thought, Ng had a shot…..she’s a real hard nose and is respected. Maybe, respect is the problem.

  59. trublu4ever

ESPN did a report on her early in the season and I was sold on her, Jhall. Maybe after Joe’s term, is over, she will get a shot at it.

  60. nellyjune

Dodgereric/Ward Dear is the ITDmanager, which by his roster predictions this morning, sounds like a pretty good one. However, he calls it a prediction so he must be thinking of a roster that he would better suit him. Wouldn’t you like to know what that is?

I am still happy just being the Dodgers Team Mom, Enchanted GM’s secretary (who wouldn’t want that job and be able to LYAO all day long), and the CEO of Ethierholics, Inc. (because if he gets to stay a Dodger for a while…………….we are going to make money off of this name since everyone else in the Dodgertown likes using it too). Mannywood will crumble and Dreland will emerge, with it’s own zipcode, of course. Then there is Matt who will have to have his own Bison Country as well.

  61. nellyjune

Hey Jhall/Wally!!!! How are you doing? Is it getting cold in Ohio these days, or do you have an actual autumn season?

  62. enchantedbeaver

As long as you’re not an odiferous set of boxers D4, you’re OK in my book.

BTW, when is someone going to FIX THIS STINKING BLOG??!!! I don’t get submission errors, I just hit submit and absolutely nothing happens. I finally had to restart my computer, then sign in for the third time today.

  63. jhallwally

Yep Nelly, getting chilly here. At night especially. We have a real nice autumn season here. Many people consider it the best time of year here.

  64. Dodger4life

No I ain’t got Odiferouse’s Boxers …they’re mine and they are G.I Joe issue. I take them fors a soak everyday also….

  65. jhallwally

Neddy fudged’em Beav!!!! He’s left lots of skids that don’t come out in the wash. Just gotta throw’em away!! LOL!!!!

  66. trublu4ever

Okay, as Enchanted suggested, I restarted my computer after trying for 15 minutes to get a post on here. I am really getting tired of the submission errors and major time warps. A lot of our regular bloggers have given up posting here because of the problem.

  67. enchantedbeaver

I remember when I bought my first rental about 15-16 years ago the property manager called me up and said I’ve got a renter for you, but he has a 13 year old boxer. I sat there thinking, “what the hell do I care what his son does?”

It finally dawned on me after talking to her another 10-15 minutes that she meant a dog.

  68. nellyjune

Good Night Jhall/Wally!!!!!! Thanks for laughs yourself. You and Beav make quite the pair along with our other ITD friends tonight. Sweet Dodger Dreams and have a fabulous day tomorrow ~ Take Care 🙂

  69. Dodger4life

If me on a slip n slide ever becomes a sport …………Lord help us…..I did get stuck in one of those water tubes one year, my shorts were grabbing the tubing material, so I would go about 10 feet and stop…kids were flying by me….Zoom…………I’d go another 10 feet and Zoom…Then came the Plus size lady….needless to say she flushed me right on through…..

  70. nellyjune

Beav – If you behave like this when we are around, who knows what you two do when you are out and about on your own. Nevermind……………………don’t answer that – LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  71. Dodger4life

About 100 feet of twist and turns Beav with me stuck between her legs……..I was LMAO!!!!! I did go ask for a refund though…..I had an all day pass…..

  72. Dodger4life

Probably…it was a sunny day and you could see a sillouette of me and everything developing from the outside, my wife was cracking up upon my return…….As were the other patron’s.

  73. Dodger4life

That is it for me too….. Good Night and God Bless everyone…..
    .
    Have a great day tomorrow……
    .
    GO DODGERS GO!!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!!

  74. nellyjune

Well, good night to you too then Dodger4life!! Thanks for the fun trivia today. I have to go to mandatory training all day tomorrow so you can do some more to pass the time away during the boring times. Good Night and God Bless 🙂

  75. crzblue2

Very nice article Nellyjune. I guess it will in tomorrow’s paper. Byron is a very nice man. I met him back in May. It was the day after I dressed like the 70’s with the big afro wig. I was going by and he said “where is your wig?” I did not understand at first then it dawn on me he was talking about the 70’s night. I started talking to him then I saw his name tag. My friends and I talked too him about how we got three speeding tickets in Arizona. Then we told him that we had gone to the premiere of the Bluetopia movie and that Maggie and Andre were there. He said he had stayed home taking care of the baby. He is always very nice everytime we see him. My friend and I ran into him also at Wrigley Field. We were at our seats when he was coming back up from the field level. The last time I saw him he introduced to his wife.
    .
    True,
My seats are Top Deck (the penthouse like I like to call it) aisle 3, last row. Come up and ask for Emma. If you are looking at the Dodger logo in the Top Deck, it is to to your left. The log is in aisle 1. Odd numbers are to the 3rd base side. The company that I work for has seats in the field level aisle 30 so is to the 1st base side. The president and the vp’s will have those seats on Wedneday and Thursday is still up in the air. email me at crzblue at yahoo. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with. I’ll remember your location is Loney’s number.

I know………………….it’s been a while since I have written a song. I heard this song actually on a country station, and I knew I had heard it before on another station. Of course, it was a Nickelback song (my daughter was proud). Anyhow, eventhough the original song is about finding love, I think most of us have already found a strong liking (okay – love) for the Dodgers, but we are in search of a World Series Ring for our boys in blue. Here’s to hope it comes true this season. And if not, we love our Dodgers anyway. Why?……………….because we do 🙂

Song: Feeling of a Ring Out There
    Original Song: Gotta Be Somebody
    Artist: Nickelback

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pbnRvAUQiI

This time we wonder what it feels like
To win the Ring on this ride
The one we all dream of
    But dreams just aren’t enough
So we’ll be waiting for the real thing.
We’ll know it by the feeling.
    The moment when we´re screaming
will play out like a scene straight off the Dodger Dream
So we’ll be holdin’ our own breath
    Right up to the end
    Until that moment when
We win the Ring that they’ll spend forever with

`Cause Dodgers want to be the last one there.
‘Cause Dodgers want to feel theWorld Series air.
Nothing but love and the best from their fans.
There`s a definite hope for a Win like that.

`Cause Dodgers want to do it on their own
And everyone wants them to know they´re not alone.
Dodger fans are all out there everywhere
There`s a definite feeling of a Ring out there

Tonight, out on the field out in the moonlight
And dammit this feels too right
    It´s just like Déjà Vu
    Fans standin’ there in blue
So we’ll be holdin`our own breath
    Could this be the year?
    Is it that moment when
We find the out what our team is really worth?

`Cause Dodgers want to be the last one there.
‘Cause Dodgers want to feel theWorld Series air.
Nothing but love and the best from their fans.
There`s a definite hope for a win like that.

`Cause Dodgers want to do it on their own
And everyone wants them to know they´re not alone.
Dodger fans are out there everywhere
There`s a definite feeling of a Ring out there

    We can´t give up!
Lookin´ for that diamond in the rough
We never know but when it shows up
    Make sure you´re holdin` on

‘Cause it could be the one, the one we’re waiting for
`Cause Dodgers want to be the last one there.
‘Cause Dodgers want to feel theWorld Series air.
Nothing but love and the best from their fans.
There`s a definite hope for a win like that.

    Ohhhhhh.

`Cause Dodgers want to do it on their own
And everyone wants them to know they´re not alone.
Dodger fans are out there everywhere
There`s a definite feeling of a Ring out there

`Cause Dodgers want to be the last one there.
‘Cause Dodgers want to feel theWorld Series air.
Nothing but love and the best from their fans.
There`s a definite hope for a win like that.

    By you_know_nothing on October 4, 2009 5:46 PM

I feel like an idiot with that 2nd sentence and I totally forgot that Haeger got hurt. I wanted to say Happy Bday to Tony Malinosky since it was his real bday yesterday but didn’t get on so happy belated 100th Bday.

  78. crzblue2

    YKN,
I also did not get a chance to say it so HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr. Malinoskly.
My second post in my blog back in February of this year was about the oldest living Ex-player in MLB and the Negro League
    http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/02/oldest_living_explayer_in_mlb.html

here is what I said back then about Malinoskly:
    .
oldest living ex-player in MLB and the Negro League.
I always read the L.A Times obituaries in the California section. When last month I read that Bill Werber the oldest living former MLB player and a teammate of Babe Ruth had died at age 100 I was asking myself “who is now the oldest living former MLB player?” Well, after much research I found out the answer is Tony Malinosky. He is 99, born October 5, 1909 and he briefly played with the Dodgers! Tony played in only one season, 1937, in 34 games total. He lived in Whittier, CA and attended Whittier college in the 30’s.
    .
BTW, Bill Werber had the distinction of being the first player to bat in the first televised major league game, leading off for the Reds in a game against the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field on Aug 26, 1939. Occasionally he would write letters to Bud Selig telling him that he did not think women should sing the national anthem, that games today take too long and that he was disgusted with the long hair on modern players. Wonder what he thought about the steriod scandals.
    .
3 weeks ago I was switching channels when I heard as part of highlights of a show in Spanish TV station “Univision” that they were going to cover the oldest living professional player that played in the Negro League. Toward the end of the show they showed Emilio Navarro. He is 103, born September 26, 1905 in Puerto Rico. He still looks healthy doing his morning exercises. He reminded me of Buck O’Neill, so upbeat, happy, friendly and with a wonderful look on life. his highlight for him was throwing out the first ball at Yankee Stadium last year. Pudge Rodriguez caught him. The world needs more people like Buck O’Neill & Emilio Navarro.
    .
This Dodger fan and baseball fan salute you gentlemen! I hope that the two of you get the oportunity to throw out the first ball at Dodger Stadium this year!

Good Morning ITDland ~ It’s really difficult listening to all the baseball “experts” saying we don’t have a chance against the Cards. I want to prove them wrong and blow the Cards away. If we play to our capabilities, the Dodgers shall prevail!!
    .
Can’t wait until tomorrow when we get this Victory Party started!

  80. Dodger4life

Good Morning ITD, Dodger Faithful and Our Beloved Boy’s in Blue….

BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!!
    .
Enjoy the day everyone……Tomorrow We Battle!!!!

  81. crzblue2

The Cardinals don’t do well against lefties. Well, except for prince Albert but if we could hold Albert and Holliday to no more than singles, they won’t score. I am seeing this with blue colored glasses but I think our lefties can hold these guys. Now we just need our offense to score. This is the Magic Castle! We can do it!!!

  82. Dodger4life

I almost forgot….Nelly very nice song, very nice indeed….I am starting to worry though…I didn’t see one mention of Andre in there are you feeling okay today….LOL!!!!!

  83. perumike

So, I just did my bracket to try to win $10k. I am picking the Dodgers and Phils, Sox and Yanks, with the Dodgers winning the World Series over the Sox. 🙂

  84. perumike

    Here’s my guess:

    Belisario
    Billingsley
    Broxton
    Elbert
    Garland
    Kershaw
    Kuo
    McDonald
    Padilla
    Sherrill
    Troncoso
    Weaver
    Wolf

    Ausmus
    Martin
    Belliard
    Blake
    Furcal
    Hudson
    Loney
    Thome
    Ethier
    Kemp
    Ramirez
    Pierre

  85. perumike

I would tend to agree dodger4life, just not sure who out of Ausmus, Belliard, Thome and Pierre they would take off. I’m guessing they would use Belliard as the all-around backup, including at short.

  86. selltheteam

Mike: I would add Castro and Loretta, and remove Weaver and Elbert. With all the days off, we don’t need as many pitchers and can have more bench players to use as pinch hitters.

  87. crzblue2

I guess is easier to say who is going to be out. I won’t guess. I am getting excited and a little nervous but just from the excitement.
    .
    Mike,
10K?? Wow! If I was in Vegas, I would place a small bet.
so ou think Elbert will make it, would it be only for the first round?
    Emma
    http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/

  88. perumike

Emma, I think Elbert will make it only because Kuroda is out for the first round. He would go if we get Hiro back for round 2.

  89. perumike

Yeah crash, I would like to see at least one of the two you mentioned added, but trying to think like Joe, I am guessing he will stock us with pitchers for the first round, especially withou Kuroda, we may have to rely heavily on the pen.

  90. Dodger4life

Game 1 line up, taken from Dodger Thoughts
    .
    Rafael Furcal, SS
    Matt Kemp, CF
    Andre Ethier, LF
    Manny Ramirez, LF
    James Loney, 1B
    Casey Blake, 3B
    Ronnie Belliard, 2B
    Russell Martin, C
    Randy Wolf, P

  91. trublu4ever

    Dodger4life ~ Thanks for providing the lineup. I personally love it this way….the Dynamic Duo 2 & 3 !!!!!!

  92. selltheteam

Tru – Joe is slowing beginning to understand that Manny needs to move down in the lineup, since he can’t hit squat without the roids!

  93. selltheteam

Red pen – “slowing” should be “slowly”. How could I think that Joe is slowing?? How much slower could he get?
    .
Tru – It could be electric with Furcal and Kemp wreaking havoc on the base paths, while Every Day Dre is wreaking havoc with his swing! Fire up!

  94. trublu4ever

And, it’s even better if Manny breaks out of his slump and performs as he usually does in the post-season. With Matt and Dre on base, we could have some big innings.

  95. crzblue2

Game is tied now 4-4. I so wish I could listen to it but my MLB audio is not working, well is saying the password is not correct. I thought it is the same one I use for the blogs.
Dodgers play at 3:07 on Thursday. I just asked a 1/2 day vaca for Wed and a hole day vaca for Thursday.

    Emma
    http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/

  96. nellyjune

Crash – that Dynamic duo (time warp and submission errors)is horrendous!! Go Twinkies!!!!!! …………………I think. I don’t think I care too much, but I think they have the best shot of knocking off the Yankees since they are on such a roll right now.

  97. selltheteam

Time Warp is especially virulent today. I never know whether my comment will be posted on time or will be posted 21 minutes into the future. Time Stamp=5:06pm

  98. shad80

You know the Yankees to pick the 7 days package so that game would be tommorrow for them instead of Thursday.

  99. nellyjune

It does seem like the Yankees have the time off would have the upperhand, but knowing how the Dodgers play after a day off, maybe the Twins aren’t in such a bad situation. I guess pitching would be the issue.

  100. kpookiemon

Wee bit surprised Padilla got the nod over Garland, just based on Garland’s successful World Series experience. But pitching is a strange science, so I’ll trust Joe on this one. But I have NO CLUE what Joe will do with the roster tomorrow. The bubble people appear to be Weaver, Troncoso, Belisario, Mota, Elbert, Thome and Mientkiewicz from which to pick only four. Doesn’t seem to be enough seats for everyone. I figure at least two of those picks will be pitchers, if not three.

  101. Dodger4life

I think I read somewhere that, Joe stated….. Weaver was on the division roster??? Maybe it was during the press conference???

  102. kpookiemon

Thanks, Dodger4life…guess that wraps up the suspense. Mota, Elbert and Mientkiewicz have to pick up their toys and go home….. I gotta say though, Belisario and Troncoso look like tired pitchers to me. At this late date, I don’t have a lot of confidence in the two of them to get Cardinals out.

  103. Dodger4life

I agree Troncoso was a little off at the end……..He did play well and with a lot of intensity for most of the season….I wish him well.

  104. thewayicit

looking forward to the ride! since my rangers are out im pullin for L.A BABY!!

That guy does that at every game. Ken Levine from Dodger Talk interviewed him Sunday. He is an actor. He was in a commercial for Magic Mountain. He shares season tix. I ran into him in the parking lot. He said on Dodger Talk that two fans showed him that they made t-shirts with his immage. He said that was unreal.

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Randy Wolf(notes) has seen a lot in his 11-year career, just never the playoffs. He’s finally getting a chance in the stadium where he watched the Los Angeles Dodgers as a kid.

The 33-year-old left-hander proved to be the most consistent starter for the repeat NL West champions, although he quickly rejects the label of staff ace.

“I almost despise that word,” Wolf said Tuesday. “A guy like Chris Carpenter(notes), you could consider him an ace. He’s done it year in, year out. He’s the guy who is almost a perennial top-five Cy Young voting guy.”

Carpenter will start for the NL Central champion St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 Wednesday night against Wolf. The 2005 Cy Young winner is a strong contender again this season, boasting a 17-4 record and a NL-best 2.24 ERA.

Wolf describes himself in less lofty terms.

“I’ve kept the team in the game,” he said. “With this staff, we could have an ace on any given day. That’s why I don’t like to use that term. It’s just try to pitch as well as you can, that’s the key.”

Wolf proved durable this season, setting career highs with 34 starts and 214 1-3 innings just two years after lasting half a season for the Dodgers because of injury.

He ended the regular season strongly, going 6-1 in his final nine starts with a 2.51 ERA. Overall, he was 11-7 with a 3.23 ERA that was second on the staff to Clayton Kershaw’s(notes) 2.79.

Kershaw will start Game 2 on Thursday, while Adam Wainwright(notes) goes for the Cardinals.

The Dodgers open the series with two pitchers who lack playoff experience, between Wolf and Kershaw, a 21-year-old left-hander. Manager Joe Torre went with the two lefties because the Cardinals batted .234 against southpaws compared to .274 against right-handers.

“Wolf’s excited. You’ll see him snatch the ball back from Russell Martin(notes), and that’s why he is who he is,” Torre said.

“Kershaw, we’ve spent the better part of two years trying to protect him and insulate him from all this exposure because he’s just a kid. Then you hand him the ball (last) Saturday and say, `Here, kid,’ and he comes back with a division title. He’s pretty well not anybody to be concerned about.”

Wolf spent eight seasons with Philadelphia, enduring his share of runner-up finishes and playoff misses. Then he missed the Dodgers’ playoff run last season, which ended in the NLCS against the Phillies.

“You obviously start feeling like there’s some kind of a jinx even though I’m not a big believer in that, but luckily that went away,” he said.

Wolf couldn’t have predicted his success in the offseason, when he thought he would be returning to the Houston Astros. That didn’t work out and the Dodgers stepped in to sign him for a second stint about a week before spring training began.

“I was happy to have that opportunity to come to LA again, and I felt that I owed them something,” said Wolf, who grew up in the San Fernando Valley. “I felt I had some unfinished business.”

He got off to a rocky beginning with a 5-6 record, a 3.55 ERA and 13 no-decisions in his first 24 starts. Coincidentally, his luck seemed to turn around the All-Star break when he switched his jersey from No. 21 to 43, and won that day.

“I always wanted No. 43. It was the number I had in Philly for a long time,” Wolf said.

Carpenter had his own share of problems, missing nearly all the previous two seasons to injuries. He was 2-0 with 1.20 ERA against the Dodgers this season.

“He has a bunch of weapons, so he can pitch to all areas,” manager Tony La Russa said. “He competes like a maniac, he’s a complete guy.”

Carpenter takes no comfort in the fact that Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez(notes) comes into the playoffs having batted .218 with four home runs and 14 RBIs in his last 25 games.

“If you ever take Manny Ramirez for granted, you’re crazy, no matter what he’s swinging,” Carpenter said. “I’m not concerned if Manny is 0 for 50. He can hit. You go out and you continue to execute your game plan, that’s it.”

Ramirez tailed off after returning from a 50-game suspension for violating baseball’s drug policy. He was hitting .348 with six homers and 20 RBIs before sitting out. He returned to hit .269 with 13 homers and 43 RBIs in 77 games

Ramirez is baseball’s all-time postseason home run leader with 28. His 74 RBIs are second only to former New York Yankees star Bernie Williams’(notes) 80.

“He tries to get too big and really it affects his balance,” Torre said. “He just has to think more in terms of smaller, like the line drive instead of long way. Usually the long ball will come when you sort of get yourself back in rhythm.”

Torre announced his starting lineup for Game 1, with Ramirez hitting in the cleanup spot. He chose infielder Ronnie Belliard(notes) (hitting .351 since coming from Washington) over All-Star Orlando Hudson(notes) (.284).

“He doesn’t have as wide a range as Hudson does, but I think offensively he’s maybe a little fresher right now,” Torre said. “We asked O-Dog to do a lot of stuff early in the year. We’ll go day-to-day right now.”

La Russa declined to identify his starters, saying the biggest issue remained who will play center field against the left-handed Wolf.

Right-hander Joel Pineiro(notes) will start Game 3 in St. Louis, while the Dodgers will go with righty Vicente Padilla(notes). Torre said All-Star right-hander Chad Billingsley(notes) would start Game 4 if necessary.

“I was just a little more comfortable with where Padilla is now,” Torre said. “I know Billingsley is getting there, otherwise he wouldn’t even be considered for No. 4 if I didn’t think I was more comfortable watching him.”

Billingsley threw 85 pitches in a simulated game Monday at the Dodgers’ spring training complex in Arizona. A year ago, he went into the division series as the Game 2 starter and beat the Chicago Cubs. But he was mostly ineffective after the break.

“Everything felt good mechanically,” he said about the simulated game. “I’m feeling a lot better out on the mound. That’s what you want to see.”

I’m real excited this post season. First time I get to go to a game, even though I’m not a Dodger fan, but my dad is a hardcore fan and we going to a game. Should be fun.
