Fireworks before, during and after the game…

Just watched the finale of the fireworks show here on Cinco de Mayo from the dugout standing beside the only Dodger born in Mexico, Oscar Robles. Another Dodger of Mexican descent, Nomar Garciaparra, came up big with the game-winning hit and then did the postgame interview wearing a Dodger poncho.

Nomar actually did an incredible job before the game of lightening the mood in the clubhouse, as he wore the poncho out onto the field during warmups. It was just the sort of thing this team needed – a veteran showing some leadership and making everyone forget about a five-game losing streak.

The Cinco de Mayo themed fireworks show was a very good one, with songs from Shakira, the Gipsy Kings, Santana, Mana and others. There’s a reason why it’s always one of the best promotions we have.

I remember coming to Dodger Stadium as a kid and being really excited to go out on the field during fireworks night. As the fans file out to the parking lots right now, I can’t help but hope that a lot of kids witnessed their first Dodger game tonight. An exciting win following by an awesome fireworks show. Every night should be like this.

    I’m talking baseball…

man, I love watching the Dodgers play. I am heartbroken when they lose, but I always hold out hope that they will make good. A lot of it is just luck, and the other part is transition. I believe that we will have a very good team in the future, heck, I think that we have a decent team this year. But there’s always gotta be a loser.

It seems like the Dodgers are cursed. Nothing goes right. Although we are only two years removed from a trip to the playoffs. A franchise doesn’t turn around overnight. It is very hard to balance winning now and in the future. But I like the way that the Dodgers have handled it.

I have my fingers crossed that all of our prospects turn out good, and we can be like the A’s or the Brewers, with a bunch of promising talent. I am envious of other teams that have good pitching and offense, but they weren’t always like that. We just have to be patient. The Future looks bright.

And as for this year, the Dodgers won’t lose every one, and there is still a lot of time to turn things around. Never say never. There’s only so much that we can change. I’ll always be a Dodger fan.

I only wish that they would get Penny some more run support!

What an EPIC debut from Russell Martin! D-Lowe pitched an awesome game… and am glad to see the bullpen didn’t fully implode this one away again. Things are looking up with Brad Penny going tonight. How about two in a row!! Go Blue!!

What a great win last night!!

Excellent. So will Russell Martin be long enough to take pitches from Eric Gagne in a game in a Dodger uniform?

Out of curiousity, what’s the latest on Justin Orenduff? He came to mind because of the success of another pitcher who was a conference (and in-state) rival of his in college, Justin Verlander of the Tigers.

I’m really hoping things go well for Russell Martin. I think he is a hard worker. However, being a Canadian, I am especially pleased that Martin and Gagne are both with the Dodgers. I can’t wait to see them as battery mates but also hope Martin isn’t rushed. Eric Langill is a Canadian catcher with Las Vegas. He seldomly plays but says he will play as long as they give him a uniform. I’m hoping he becomes a coach in the Dodger system.
