It never rains in southern California – Josh Rawitch

OK, so maybe the song is a little off base. It rained for much of tonight’s game and eventually got to the point that in the middle of the eighth inning, the game had to be called on account of rain. Truth is, there was concern for the players’ safety and given that this was an exhibition game, it only made sense to call it.

It was nice to be back at Dodger Stadium, though. For 40,000 fans, it was the first chance to see the restoration that took place at the ballpark and for us in the front office, it’s a chance to get a dry run before Monday’s game, when 56,000 fans pack Chavez Ravine. There really is so much work that goes on behind-the-scenes at the stadium and every year, the Freeway Series provides a chance for new and old employees alike to get on the same page.

It seems like most of the guys that are battling minor injuries right now (Gagne, Lofton, Furcal and Cruz) should all be ready by Opening Day, barring any setbacks, so now we have to hope that the rain stays away.

Tomorrow and Sunday we’re in Anaheim for the conclusion of the Freeway Series and hopefully Raffy will get to play a little bit in Sunday’s game. Gagne, despite having an inner and outer ear infection, pitched tonight. It was great just to hear the opening notes of "Welcome to the Jungle," as it had been a while since that took place at Dodger Stadium.

For now, let’s all keep our fingers crossed that we get through the weekend with everyone healthy and get some sun on Monday, which should be quite a day.

I really hope it doesnt rain on opening day.

And as for tonights game against the Angels, I dedicate this quote from a news article to our dear friend “ndeschenes”

“Angels right-hander Jeff Weaver allowed four runs, 10 hits and no walks over five innings through a steady drizzle, finishing spring training 2-1 with a 7.46 ERA in six starts.”

    NICE ACE!

Let’s not be too tough on ndeschenes yet. I too would liked to have kept Jeff Weaver but understand what happened. I don’t see him as an ace but more as a reliable pitcher who never seems to get injured, is still young and improving, pitches well over 200 innings and doesn’t complain. Pretty good qualities. I expect judgement can be truly made at the end of the season. I sort of understand the Pedro deal but have always regretted the deals that sent Paul Konerko and Mike Piazza away. Being a GM is tough.I think GM Colletti has some patience and won’t rush into those kinds of deals. I also think he is comfortable enough that he doesn’t have to put his stamp on the team in a year or two. Really excited about the new season.

The Stadium and the new seat colors look great but the seat bottoms are too high for anyone under 5’9″. Many people commented that their feet don’t touch the floor when sitting back in the seat and to those who are under 5’4″ the only way to get comfortable is to rest their feet on the cup holder!

Is anyone else completely annoyed by “the Wonder Dog” Rex Hudler. He is so disingenuous. Last night he commented at the end of the telecast “just another Angels win, it’s a beautiful thing.” Wasn’t it officially a tie anyway since it was tied at the end of the last complete inning? Not that it really matters.
