A new thread…
As it turned out, I wasn’t on the last road trip and today has been a rather busy day, as you can imagine, so it’s been a while since we had a new post. Sincere apologies. Hopefully we’ll be more regular now that the team is back in town.
Congrats to Rod Barajas on going deep in his first game as a Dodger and first home game as a Dodger. I caught up with him earlier this afternoon in the clubhouse and the guy seemed downright giddy to be wearing this uniform.
There’s honestly been so much to talk about, I wouldn’t even know where to start. But frankly, I think you’re much better served hearing from the actual newsmakers on the Manny front and the trial, so I’ll leave you all to read those stories at the various media outlets and weigh in with your thoughts. But at the very least, I thought everyone needed a new thread…
Great 1 hit GEM by KURODA
Nice save by KUO
Thanks, Josh. I said on the previous thread that you probably didn’t have much to report that was good news. I do appreciate all you do for us.
Nice game by Kuroda…..let’s get him some more runs. GO DODGERS!!!!!
Well there goes the prefect game with that walk.
Josh – Thanks for the new thread!!!! We appreciate all you do for us. I know your job can’t be easy these days, but thanks for keeping us in the loop as much as possible. Best of luck to you in maintaining balance between the team and the drama of what is happening in the courtroom. Dodger fans are the best in the world, and we ALL want what is best for the team. We all just have different ways of showing it, some more colorful than others, but the goal is the same…….doing what is best for the players on the field.
n/m about that forgot Werth was hbp earlier in the game.
Since 2008, Barajas is 18 for 34 with eight home runs against the Phillies.
Wow Kuroda 1st hit this season.
Kuroda was like 0/47 dang hate seeing Pods grounded into a dp.
I hate when I am composing a post and a new thread appears. Here is my post from the old one. And congrats to Barajas on his homer in front of his friends and family!
I have enjoyed the Manny experience but it was time for him to go. Obviously his range in left field is limited but I have always thought he played smart and caught the balls he could get to. There were a few times guys took an extra base due to his lack of speed but most of the time when he took his time getting to the ball and getting it back in it would have been a double anyway despite the fact that it made him look lazy or uncaring. A Repko-esque mad dash into the wall and firing the ball back would have yielded the same result most of the time.
It will be interesting to see if he can DH until October without pulling another muscle.
It will take a lot of good luck for the Dodgers to get to the Wild Card… but stranger things have happened. I like the speed that Pods and Theriot have brought. If they can improve the BA with RISP, they may have a chance.
The main thing we have to root for in the next few weeks is for a new owner that is already wealthy enough not to use the Dodgers for his own personal piggy bank.
Stupid Dodger fans and their beachballs. They obviously aren’t paying much attention to the game, or they wouldn’t be interrupting OUR pitcher’s rhythm. Drives me nuts!!!
Way to go Dodgers!!!!
What a fabulously pitched game by Kuroda and thanks to Kuo for finishing it for him. WAY TO GO DODGERS!!!!!
To bad Kuroda couldn’t get the no no.
Shad – I blame the beach ball – lol!!! Seriously, that did not come at a very good time. I think it did, to a point, mess up his rhythm.
I love when espn have are game in shaded blue in there boxscore.
I don’t want to blame that I want to blame someone us lol
shhhhhhh!!! The gnats just lost – yeah 🙂
Well, no hitter or not, he pitched a great game against a powerhouse Phillies team. We still have a huge mountain to climb, but this certainly is a step in the right direction.
I’m assuming Giants fans are now blaming Ross for that triple by Cargo. No need to go on that board because I know that going to be it.
Oh yes, even in this house they are blaming Ross 🙂
Notes: The last Dodgers? no-hitter was by Hideo Nomo of Japan at Colorado on Sept. 17, 1996, a 9-0 victory. On July 10, the Phillies were no-hit through eight innings by Cincinnati?s Travis Wood before Ruiz got a leadoff double in the ninth. The Phillies won 1-0 in 11 innings.
Well it look like Victorino was 0/5 coming into the game vs Kuroda. I guess since his hometown team lost in the LLWS vs Japan he have to break up that so I guess he had to break it up against another Japanese pitcher.
This is the first time Kuroda ever had a 10 wins season for us.
are the dodgers going to make a waiver trade b4 today deadline if not im disappointed
lol you shouldn’t be.
Dodgers wanted Flowers ?We had offered them a million and a half for not their best prospect, but certainly somebody who we thought was a good prospect,? Colletti said. ?They didn?t want to do that, so we lowered our sights on the prospect to a million, went that direction. And then they didn?t want to do that. So finally, we offered them $500,000 for one of three lower-level guys, and they didn?t want to do that.?
The Dodgers? top target was Tyler Flowers, a catcher, and the only reason Ramirez didn?t leave sooner than Monday was because the Dodgers were trying to strike a deal. The Dodgers? future behind the plate is unknown with the possibility that the injured Russell Martin could be non-tendered this offseason.

Oh gosh I didn’t want to see this.
Okay – who’s keeping track of what is being said in the courtroom. Such idiots!!!
I want to know why our local paper is covering the divorce? Frankly, I don’t give a soap!!!
The Padres claimed Kuroda on waivers last weekend. The Dodgers were negotiating a trade with them when they decided to recall him from waivers.
Frank in ’09: Jamie thinks she can run the team, which is a disconnect from reality. Fine with her getting press, but she should know truth.
………ummmmmm….. Hate to tell you Frank, but you ain’t doing so good yourself.
The Padres would have been lights out with Kuroda on their pitching staff.
nelly, the Phillies are hardly a powerhouse these days. They’re hitting .184 in their last 12 games, a stretch where the pitchers have a 2.62 ERA. If they were such a powerhouse, they wouldn’t have been 5-7 in that stretch. Right now they are experiencing a serious power outage and I don’t know when they will come out of it this season, if at all.
Couldn’t make it to Dodger Stadium and Petco Field this week like I planned. My Godchild got married over the weekend and I couldn’t miss that. So my wife traveled with our daughter to help her get set up for school out there. I have plenty of time though because my daughter is only a soph and I expect her to want to stay in LA for work. If she ends up out there permanently my wife will insist on us going regularly and I will have to insist on it coinciding with a Phillies road trip on occasion.
Phan – We are all too familiar around here with the power outage issue, and I would have to tack on implosions from our pitching staff as well. Well, in most media outlets, your Phillies should be coming in and putting the final nails in our coffin for the season so I was going with that presumption that your bats would come alive just in time to do that. I for one, DO NOT want to see the Giants anywhere near the playoffs so as of right now, unless we really forge ahead and take the wild card ourselves, then I rather have any team up there than the gnats. Even last night, it really would have benefited us more if the gnats had won, but I just can’t do it. I can’t cheer for them. I do it quietly, unlike my son, who is orange and black through and through and lets me know it everyday, but I certainly can’t say I ever want the gnats to win a game.
It sounds like some exciting times ahead for your family, and I certainly agree, plan around the baseball schedule. It’s a must!!
Phillies are starting to get healthy for the first time this year. I think they can take the Braves out for the NL East!!! Right now, all I want to see is, us help wreck the G’nats playoff hopes!!!!
And of course, make the McCourts sell the team!!!!
Hopefully, that will make Ned(total piece of fishing soap aspirin) go away!!!
I’m pleased the Dodgers didn’t send Manny off under the same classless PR cloud the Red Sox did. Torre allaying concerns about the one-pitch at-bat Sunday, Kemp and others talking about the positive force Manny was during his era with LA. Ramirez’s time in LA was bumpy, especially given the suspension, but I think Torre was correct in ultimately saying his legs gave out a year early. He hit great for us this season when he could play, but having to play the field and run the bases was too much. I wish him well and thank him for a lot of great moments. I hope to see a hitter of his caliber in LA again soon.
Thank you Manny for the thrills in 2008!!! Too bad, that was it!! Just enough to score a big 2 year contract. It was great in 08, after that, arrrrrgh!!! We paid dearly for nothing!!! Steroids and poor(that is being kind) defense!!!! Good-bye, good luck and good riddance!!!!
Frank’s on the stand. As Jamie’s witness (thanks for the link again blueteapartymember1).
Think he’ll invoke the Faber College Delta Tau Chi defense?
dzzrtatt, my hope is someday the Dodgers actually draft and develope a Manny or Pujols caliber of player. I would even take “stealing” a player from another organization (a la Andre). Will Kemp and Andre become that caliber of player?
I think Jamie was a member of Phi Jamma Limo!!!!
Mike Moustakas tonight
4-for-6, 3 HR, 11 RBI
by silverwidow on Aug 30, 2010 9:46 PM PDT reply actions
I know this guy not in our organization but those numbers in one game is nice even though he might be playing in a hitter park down there in the minor.
I wouldn’t mind having him with Grinke if we’re going to give up May. I don’t think the Royals would do that and he’s the Royals top 3rd baseman prospect.
Moustakas was a big time high school player in my local area. I remember reading about him in the local papers. Speaking of local players, what a great story about Barajas dreaming of playing for the Dodgers and then finally getting a chance, topped off by hitting a home run in his first game at Dodger Stadium wearing a Dodger uniform. And hitting it off one of the best pitchers in the majors.
LMAO Fishingsoap…..Phi Jamma Limo!!!!!!
Look like he’s a LA boy to but dang he was born on 9/11.
Ibirken, Kemp and Ethier will never be as good as Pujols but they might get a little better than they are now. Unfortunately, unless we get a new owner, they will get better on a different team after they hit the free agent market.
I don’t know what Kemp’s problem is, visually or neurologically. His pitch recognition skills and reaction times need a major improvement. Well, maybe his reaction time is okay but it is directed in the wrong muscles. He has been looking pretty silly lately jumping out of the way and sticking his aspirin way out on a straight arrow fast ball right on the inside corner for a called strike. Casey Blake saw the same pitch and didn’t flinch. I saw Kemp wearing glasses during his show where Steve Lyons drove from Kemp’s house to the stadium but do not know when that was taped. I have also heard that he had LASIK surgery. But whatever method he used to improve his visual acuity, I don’t if it is as good as it could be. Or the problem could be with his “wiring” from his optic nerve to his brain. Assuming a power pitcher that throws 93 mph has a stride where the ball leaves his had 55 feet from the plate, that gives the batter only about 400ms to see the ball, determine where it is going to cross the plate, and swing his bat in the proper plane to make contact with the “sweet spot” of the bat. Hitting a round ball with a round bat means that there is probably only a 1/4″ or less where contact is made. It is no wonder it is said that hitting a baseball thrown by a major league pitcher is the hardest skill to master in sports. I would think the Dodgers are aware of this and would have the tools and training skills to help a player improve his reflexes by working on vision, coordination and reaction time. If Kemp is to avoid looking like an aspirin by jutting out his aspirin to avoid a strike on the inside corner, or flailing helplessly at a ball that has slid low and away from the strike zone, he could use some of that kind of training. That goes for the rest of the Dodgers too.
Hi’Ya Trumom!!!! :)))
Psi Frank Limpda!!!
Beta Beta Fish 🙂
LMAO Trumom!!! We’ve got Tetra(fourth) soap!!!!!
Holy cow, can you imagine Beav going Greek!!! Toga, Toga….
ITD tour in 2012 when Frank is gone should be a toga party!!! I’m inviting Jamie!!!!
Beav in a toga….priceless!!!!!
Oh, no…not the Lambda, Lambda Moos!!!!!
I wonder if Ned is Greek. He likes to stick it to the young boys and bend over for the old men???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alright Trumom!! LOL!!!
I hear Ned was a Phi Beta Krappa – and still is!!
I hear that in the Greek army, they never leave their buddies behind.
LMAO!!! That’s my Beav!!! Hi’Ya my brother!!!!
32&53, I have vivid memories of Adrian Beltre and Raul Mondesi swinging wildly at those down and away pitches out of the strike zone. They were both good players with a lot of upside. Beltre had one good year but has had a decent career after leaving the Dodgers, not spectacular but still good enough to land on the Red Sox. Not sure what happened to Mondesi after he left the Dodgers. I still have hopes for Kemp. Ethier has had his share of problems this season. I hate to think having Manny in the lineup really made that much difference for Andre and the others.
Hey Jhall Fishing Wally Soap! How they hangin’?
Birk & 32 – all of our young guys be they pitchers or hitters have either regressed or certainly not progressed. They all can’t be underachievers who “don’t get it.” Don’t you think a lot, if not most of their troubles can be laid at the feet of our illustrious coaching staff?
Did you know that Gil Hodges hit 4 home runs on Aug 31 1950.
Only 60 years ago tonight.
I was a 12yr Oldbrooklynfan back then.
Carlos Monasterios has been given the ball again, tonight he has to take on the N.L Champs.
The Dodgers showed a lot of heart last night especially Kuroda.
What a magnificent 1 hitter.
It looks like Werth might’ve messed up Theriot breaking up that DP last night, since he’s not in the Lineup.
Well tonight’s another game.
KEEP IT UP YA BUMS!!!!
Happy 42th Bday former Dodgers Nomo.
Kruk and Kuip are so fishing annoying!!!!! After a 1,2,3 top of the 1st innng, they have already determined it is a good omen for the gnats this game. They are such immature aspirins!!!
Where the warning?
Gawd!! I hate watchng the gnats play!!!
Gosh damn Ethier should’ve taken a pitch.
I expected more than 1 run.
I know how you feel, Nellyjune. Every game, same dialogue….I’m tired of hearing, “In the squat and on the bump”, “Grab some pine meat” ……yuck!
Shad – you sound like Charlie Steiner. He gets mad at Andre when he lets the first pitch go, and he gets mad at him when he swings at the first pitch. If he would have hit a homerun, the first pitch would have been magnificent. ***sigh***
…………and it seems like they have been playing at home alot lately. They need to fly back east so their games are over before I get home. They are just so annoying!!!
And, how childish to “white-out” the oppsosing teams’ fans.
Yep, it sure is!!!
Sorry guys, but, Carlos sucks.
Vinny just had to jinx Howard.
I bet the Phillies mad they could’ve had 6 runs last night when they best pitcher on the mound.
Bring back McDonald.
Amazing at this late date that our #5 starter is a Rule 5 cast-off. Yeah, Padilla is hurt. So what? Some depth. As for Kemp, his swing seems so long to me that he has to start swinging right now! The quicker and shorter the swing, the longer a hitter can wait for pitch recognition, ala Manny. Kemp hits long, high, majestic home runs with that sweeping swing…but it betrays him the majority of his at-bats.
I love are converter catcher Jansen with his 1st major league hit. Can we leave Monsterious alone since he’s young? He need some time in the minor only reason we still have him becaquse he’s a rule 5 player.
One run is better than none.
The fishing gnats are full of soap!
Dang if only Loney hit that homerun in the other inning.
Believe me I felt it.
lol that other inning is the 1st
I hate 2-0 foul ball out.
The Rox just tied the Gints – yeah!!!
Blah Ruiz is such a Dodgers killer 4/4.
nevermind – gnats up again, 3-2 now 😦
The Dodger offense has to keep grinding like nothing ever happened over the next two innings.
lol they keep broken bat stats.
The fishing gnats won – blah!!!
Pffffffffffffff at least we’re going to screw the Gnats again if Philly win.
Yea, but if the Padres don’t start doing something, the gnats just might win the division. They won’t need to worry about the Wild Card. The Padres have lost 6 straight, and the gnats are only 4 games out.
I hope Kershaw can go 7 to 8 innings tomorrow.
LET’S GO KERSHAW!!!!
Come on Padres I have you guys winning the division if we can’t this is so hard to root for.
Manager Ozzie Guillen was asked about the addition of DH/OF Manny Ramirez, and more specifically, who the bigger troublemaker of the two was. ?I think I am the bigger troublemaker,? Guillen said. ?Manny doesn?t bother anybody. ? Manny just goes and plays the game and has played the game very good for a long time. Manny tries to stay away from the cameras. I try to but I can?t because I have to be with you guys every day, day in and day out, twice a day. I don?t have any choice or any escape. I can?t escape from you guys. As troublemaker? I hate it when they say ?Manny being Manny.? It?s just Manny being real. That?s all it is. I don?t think this kid has any problems with anyone.?
CLEVELAND — Manny Ramirez grabbed one of his bats, waved it only the way he can, and simply stood in the on-deck circle.
That was all the White Sox needed from him.
With Ramirez waiting to make his debut for Chicago a few feet away, A.J. Pierzynski connected for a tiebreaking, three-run homer off Frank Herrmann in the ninth inning to lift the White Sox to a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday night.
Stadium Progressive Field, Cleveland, OH
Attendance 12,006 (26.6% full) – % is based on regular season capacity
Well it look like Manny was going to hit if AJ didn’t hit that 3 runs homeruns and playing in front of the Indians crowd which isn’t a big crowd there and this would’ve been the 1st time back since leaving the Red Sox and probably would’ve gotten some mixed reaction
Where’s all the news about all the prospects Ned traded for for all of our other would-be FAs?
Oh that’s right, he didn’t so there isn’t any. So now we end up with absolutely nothing for players we won’t even have next year and a farm system totally decimated by Ned trading for old crap even teams like the Royals and Pirates didn’t want, which exactly helped our team how??
Frank may hold the purse strings, but Ned’s the architect of this disaster. Throw in an embicillic manager and there you have it, the Three Stooges nyuking up a once proud franchise.

Mt sentiments exactly :))
Can this season get further down the tubes? How many fishing lines can be tangled before you have to cut them?
Answer is yes and only two to the questions.
Some will be full of hope, if we beat Oswalt today, but the realist in me knew the season was doomed when we got swept by the gnats. I can only hope the the divorce proceedings cut the McCourt fishing lines, so we can get a new fishing boat for next season, other wise if you think we had a few holes to patch at the beginning of this season (2nd base, SP) wait till you see the repair bill for next season.
New little tidbit on our unscrupulous owner(s):
What do you think sportsfans? If Frank found himself audited by the IRS for his Dodger, charitable and other financial dealings, would all of a sudden Jamie be co-owner so she’d take half the hit?
I think the IRS may have the McCourts on their radar. If MLB (selig) won’t make them sell the the team, perhaps the IRS will! They got Capone!
Bud Selig and MLB are complicent in letting the McCourts purchase the Dodgers in the first place. Selig and the other owners let Frank and Jamie in their club. How could Selig not know every detail about Frank’s business dealings? Selig clearly knew how leveraged the McCourt’s would have to be to swing the deal and allowed it to happen. I am not saying the McCourt’s were doomed to failure. Selig probably agreed with the notion that Dodger fans would continue to support the team and provide enough revenue to allow the McCourt’s to handle the debt. The mistake, if you want to call it that, was assuming the McCourt’s had the proper character to own a major sports franchise.

against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve
worked hard on. Any suggestions?
