A wild night all around
Pretty safe bet tonight’s game can’t be as crazy as last night’s. Then again, every time you think that’s the case, something wild happens and you’re left shaking your head.
We need to snap out of this funk. A six-game losing streak is never fun, especially coming out of the break. But as we’ve all seen, this team can streak with the best of them and has an ability to come back when everyone least expects it. Here’s hoping Billingsley and the Boys are up to the task tonight.
I LOVE L.A.!!!!

Look like another former ex Yankees manager pass away today.
Condolences to the Houk family!!! LOL Beav!!! Speaking of the deceased, I think you can put Martin in there!!! What a waste!!!! Geez!!!!
Crap, I’m freaking time warped again!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re absolutely right Josh.
.
Only 17 rain out in LA?
GO!
GO!
GO!
This would be the “getaway” game if we were on the road.
Considering that this is a homestand, I’ll call this a “go-away” game.
As in “Go Away, Giants!”
Or for those of you who ???? ? ?????? ??? ? ????????!
Look like another former ex Yankees manager pass away today.

And I thought Joe only looked lifeless.
🙂 :)!
My condolences to the Ralph Houk family.
Alright Blakester!!!! WTG!!!
Casey’s in double digits. GOOD GOING BLAKE.
No really, I must say I stand corrected. Joe IS the perfect manager for this team – he hasn’t got a pulse either.
I’ll be here all week folks. And don’t forget to tip your server.
I’m sure you will BPB1 🙂
LMAO!!!! We wouldn’t want you anywhere else BPB1 :))
Here’s a tip BPB1- don’t assume 10 runs is enough 🙂
Tip #2….drinking during the game is highly recommended.
I thought drinking was mandatory.
There’s a game tonight? Here I thought “Blake gets Dodgers started” might’ve kicked off the dumping of PVLs.
My hopes are dashed again…
lol Wolf performance what the heck?
Too funny, BPB1!
Normally I’d be a little hesitant in signing on at this point in a game, but considering the garbage heap of games we’ve suffered through lately, perhaps I can be a late-inning good luck charm tonight.
Figures I’d get warped.
Hey shad, what’s Randy Wolf been doing lately?
Wally!! Dad!! Wat are you doing up there?
R. Wolf (L, 7-9) 5.2 13 12 12 2 4 2 1.56 5.20
Ouch
Don’t want to jinx the Braves, but they’re beating the Pads so far……..
Dang it Braves
Hey Enchanted, just fooling around until I can get out of the warp! Now tell Ned he can get Wolf back.
Hey Ned, maybe you can get Randy Wolf back.
Mr. Gorbachev FIX THIS BLOG!!!
The next thing is that someone will tell me we’ve signed another gnat castoff. I just hope it isn’t tru.
READ MY LIPS – NO NEW TAXES!!
Good Work, Bills and Crew!!!
BPB1, we did purchase the conract of former Giants discard Taschner. Feel better?
Out-freaking-standing Billz!!!! Billz and Beard tonight!!!
Way to go Chad Billingsly!!!! Very, very proud of you!!!!! A very well pitched game!!!!
WAY TO GO DODGERS!!!!!!
What a crappy homeplate umpire we have tonight!
Getting that queasy feeling again 🙂
LOL Beav, JoJo would have over mangaged and probably pulled him!!!! Billz was pitching tonight, not just throwing..
Good sign. He doesn’t have to overpower, just locate and trust your stuff. Maddux will make the Hall of Fame with less than Billz stuff, because he was smart.
Not all of us Dad/Eric!! Great to see you my friend!!!
Anyway, WooHoo, win streak. If anyone sees this, have a great nignt true blue faithful. Excelsior!!!!!!!
Well was this pitching dued last night?
What Tru, was Miller getting lonely?
I’m glad the Padres won, I feel it sort of holds back the Giants.
I wouldn’t want the Giants to take the division.
He’s going to bolster our BP…LMAO!!!!!!
In fact, we may see him tonight!
A gem for Bills, his 5th, I hope he wins.
Billingsley has pitched a fantastic game so far. I hope we can get the last 6 outs without blowing this one. Bills really deserves to win. I don’t know who would close this one? I would suspect both Broxton and Kuo are unavailable. Weaver, maybe. Taschner……… YIKES!!!
Alright Bills fantastic eight inning! Keep it going go for the complete game shutout!
THANK-YOU BILLZ!!!!!!!! A FANTASTIC COMPLETE GAME!!!!!!
A COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only other time Bills did that (CG Shutout), I was in attendance, against the Giants.
The date: July 30, 2008: Manny Eve.
Wow, an ace-like game from Billz.
Now I’ve got to ask the question… If Joe was managing tonight and not Mattingly, is there any doubt that Billz wouldn’t have been allowed to go the distance? How many times have we seen a guy throw a shutout for 7-8 innings only to never get a chance to finish it because Joe’s an idiot? Not saying it will, but these are the kind of games that could help Billz turn the corner. Could help Kersh too next time he gets close.
BRING ON THE METS!!!!!
WTG BILLS!!!! In this dreary week following the All Star break Billingsley’s gem gives up a little ray of hope.
Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
C Billingsley (W, 8-5) 9.0 5 0 0 2 3 0 125-80 4.22
I love seeing this in espn.com box score.
So we’re all out of the warp? You don’t think they’ve fixed this, do you?
Haw, haw, haw!!! I KNEW IT!!!!
So Donny Baseball is now 1-0? Keep Torre in the press box!
I think Torre would let him go for it since Kuo and Broxton was used last night.
Ethier’s line is starkly similar as well (though they had Jonathan Sanchez starting that game instead of Zito):
7/30/08 v. Giants: 0-4, K, GDP
7/21/10 v. Giants: 0-3, K, BB
Let’s see we swept the Cards and they swept us back. The Mets were a good team when we seen them without Beltran and swept us and I don’t mind us taking 3 of 4 from them and I hope the Mets don’t get swept but the dback.
Hmm, out of the warp, back in the warp, now in submission error hell.
I think Torre would have let him go out there in the ninth, but Kuo would have come in if anyone got on. That’s his MO. And Donny probably would have done the same. Why? Because I’m betting that Schaffer spent the night with a Bluetooth device in his ear.
I hope that Mets game goes to 20th innings.
lol not Kuo 2 innings last night and I don’t think it’s possible
In and out of time warping with submission error hell.
I still want Wallace to be our manager.
Kuo was warming up, shad. And it looked like he was ready. I’m saying he’s in the game if Chad allowed a baserunner.
I’ve been cruising the minors a little tonight. I don’t really want to rush him, but I’m getting excited to see this Kelly Jansen kid. 6’6″, 22 years old, 50 Ks in 27 AA innings?
http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=445276
And what the hell kind of helmets are they making the kids wear these days? Looks like you could get two of Dee Gordon’s heads in that one lid!
http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/mlb/minorleagues/affiliates/index.jsp?c_id=la
OK, it’s only Rookie ball in Ogden, but we have a 6’5″ catcher who just turned 21 named Michael Pericht who’s played 28 games. Hitting .339/.429/.633/1.062 with 9 homers. A 16th round pick last year.
I am not sure where I was reading, but I had also read something about Kelly Jansen. They were also talking about the other guy you’ve been watching…………Kyle Russell. It must have been a Bleacher Report or something of that sort. Oh, I know what it was………………….something about untouchables in our minor system I believe. It had to do with trading and who we were not willing to give up for the right price so to speak.
Russell was killing the ball at high A Inland. They moved him up to AA Chatanooga and he went right into the toilet. He’s just now starting to hit again.
Those are the Rawlings S100’s, Eric. The new helmets designed to take a 100mph fastball and still keep one’s brains in place. MLB made them mandatory for all minor leaguers before the start of this season.
Although, they have the outside chance of making the wearer shrink, turn a greenish hue, and have mental excursions to the Stone Age, where they have the sudden urge to call everyone a “dum dum”.
Shockingly this year, they had just about every All-Star in the helmets during the All-Star Game, though they were a slimmed-down version. The brims are a lot shorter on the ones the big-leaguers wear, the ones who are brave enough to put safety first, anyway, like Justin Morneau and sometimes David Wright.
Last year, the NFL approved a helmet with the same idea as the S100s, called “The Gladiator”. Don’t know if any NFL’ers wore it last year, but judging by the look of it, I doubt it. http://www.thegoosesroost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/gladiator.jpg
That wouldn’t been dumb if Kuo got into this game and got lit up and I wonder why Kuo can’t pitch back to back game but he does have 2 games already stretching 2 innings out of him? Maybe he can pitch in back to back game if his PC is low. I always wonder if Kuo had just thrown 4 pitches to 3 batters would he come back out the next day.
Thanks north! Now that you mention it, I remember hearing about them in the spring, but I don’t think I ever saw them.
Gad, that NFL helmet is something else too. Although I’d put up with it if it kept my brains in order. Concussions are a scary thing.
Do you ever get the feeling that they purposely cause submission error issues? This is just absolutely ridiculous!!
Anyhow, before I was brought back into submission hell for the upteenth time tonight……………
Shad – I read that Kuo takes hours to get ready for a game. So, I am assuming his regimend has something to do with when he does and doesn’t pitch. I know it’s not right, and I agree with enchanted. We should have a bullpen pitcher that can go back to back games, but with his injury record, I am sure that is behind his workout regimend to keep him as healthy as possible.
Dodgereric – interesting about Kyle, but I am sure he will figure things out. I am looking forward to seeing him up to the big club some day, along with Dee Gordon. A 6’5″ catcher? I am guessing that is a Brian McCann type then. That can bring some excitement someday too.
Northstateblues – thanks for the explaination. Now, if they can just figure out the wood bat issue. That broken bat that came at Billz in two parts was a little frightening. My son uses a composite bat that is supposedly unbreakable. So far it hasn’t unlike others that he has used.
Time check
11:21pm, pst
That would be submission error hell – LOL!!!!
So, I guess we can start mapping out when hour #2 will hit. ITDFST is already up to an hour and 10 minutes.
The Mets really do suck and making the dback bullpen look good.
D. Haren 6.0 6 3 3 2 8 2 1.35 4.60
E. Vasquez 2.0 0 0 0 2 2 0 1.26 4.32
A. Heilman 2.0 0 0 0 1 3 0 1.48 3.80
J. Gutierrez 1.0 0 0 0 0 1 0 1.53 7.13
S. Demel 1.0 1 0 0 0 0 0 1.13 3.60
B. Boyer 1.0 0 0 0 0 2 0 1.82 4.73
I was trying to type this but Boyer pitch another innng and won.
*inning
I agree I wish we can clone 2 to 3 more Kuo.
WTG Furcal finally he has enough PA’s to take over Prado for #1 in the batting average.
1. Rafael Furcal, LAD .337
2. Martin Prado, ATL .320
3. Placido Polanco, PHI .314
4. Marlon Byrd, CHC .314
5. Angel Pagan, NYM .311
Not long ago this current group of youngsters reminded me of the Dodgers of 1973 led by Garvey, Lopes, Russell and Cey (as well as Yeager who is often forgotten) who went on to appear in 4 World Series culminating in the ’81 World Championship.
.
Now, the situation is reminding me a lot more of the Dodgers of the mid-’90s led by youngsters Piazza, Karros and Mondesi who went on to be destroyed by Fox.
.
The main difference I see at this point is that Fox destroyed the team in a single devastating blow — you all know what I’m talking about — whereas under the McCourt fiasco, the future that shone so incredibly bright has been dimmed gradually over the last three years.
.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to see how this current core will ever go to and win a World Series. We no longer have the minor league resources to fill the gaps, and McCourt never had the money to get the necessary free agents.
Here is one frustrated fan’s reaction to the events of the past few games, last night execpted.

KURODA has now pitched through the 7th inning for the 8th time this year.
.
Dodgertown, Brooklyn where it hasn’t rained through 857 1/2 straight games, …that’s not Brooklyn. LOL
.
Does KEMP think he’s Casey tonight?
