Another season of Vin…
It appears Vin Scully has made it official, telling the Times’ Bill Plaschke that he plans to be back next season. It seems he also suggested that next year will be his last, but obviously that’s a bridge to be crossed at a later time. As my boss, Charles Steinberg, said in the story, we certainly want to honor him in some way or another but we want to make sure that its in line with his own wishes. But rest assured, it’ll be something to remember. And as far as I’m concerned, it’s the best news we can ask for as Dodger fans.
Meanwhile, last night’s game in St. Louis obviously got out of hand, so much so that Mark Loretta wound up pitching for one-third of an inning. Other Dodger position players to have pitched for us in Los Angeles are Jim Hickman (6/23/67), Danny Heep (7/30/88), Jeff Hamilton (4/15/89), Mickey Hatcher just two weeks later (5/4/89), Chris Donnels (5/5/01), and Robin Ventura (6/25/04).
Eric Collins, who called the game last night alongside Steve Lyons, weighed in over at Psychollingy regarding Loretta’s appearance and much more.
And finally, for those who might have missed it, I thought Phil Wallace wrote a very interesting breakdown of the team and our current situation a few days ago over at LA Observed.
Lineup to come later in the day…
UPDATE:
Lineup:
Furcal, SS
Hudson, 2B
Manny, LF
Ethier, RF
Blake, 3B
Loney, 1B
Martin, C
Kemp, CF (His In My Own Words debuts tonight on PRIME TICKET at 8 p.m. or right after the game)
Kershaw, P
Josh!
the best news I heard today!
“VIN SCULLY! WE LOVE YOU
.
I was at that game when Ventura pitched. It was against the Angels and we lost 13-0. My brother Vic likes to tell people how in the 9th inning I was still yelling “LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!” with the thunderstick we had gotten either that day or the day before.
Emma
http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/
Get well Eric! thoughs and prayer for you. Remember EGBOK? Everything’s Gonna Be OK.
JOSH thanks for the updates & links. Hey if Loney can pitch, I say give him a try….LOL. I would actually love to see him pitch. They gave Loretta a tried, why not Loney. OK Martin wearing white-out as nail polish so that the pitchers can see his calls better. Noooo nooo. That is just funny. Love Martin, but Kuo did not pitch on Tuesday…why wear it?? That is toooo funny. Is KUO the only pitcher having problems seeing MARTIN’s signs???? Or is that just KUO’s excuse. I think somebody needs to review his calls or better communication needs to happen. Next time I recommend French Tip and add a shiny rhinestone (it looks purty)….I’m just kidding. I love Martin and he has great sportsmanship for wearing white out (or bad taste is nail polish)…heeheee.
*
Well last night’s lost was terrible. I don’t mind the fact that we lost, but the fact that we got shut out and they score 10 runs. Lately the opposite is scoring way more than us and that worries me. I do believe that these loses will open their eyes. So come on…play offs will be tougher….get it together. And hey if MARTIN has to wear WHITEOUT for the pitchers to see his calls better…then hey I will stop making fun of it. GOOOOO MARTIN.
*
LET’S GO DODGERS….LET’S GO!
LET’S GO DODGERS….LET’S GO!
I am just checking in quickly to let you know Eric is doing great. He was told to go home, and all the tests were good. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. You are all wonderful!
GO DODGERS!!!!!!
Good news, indeed, that Vin wants to come back for another season. Now, a suggestion to Vin and the Dodgers, if I may. Vin has never been a fan of traveling. Why travel? Let him just do home games, and road games when he feels like going, instead of doing all games west of the Rockies. If it keeps Vin with us, about 70 games a year or whatever number the Dodgers televise at home would make the fans happy and, maybe, make Vin happy.
NELLY – thanks for the update….GOOOOO ERIC!
*
I’m glad VIN is coming back for next year….games are more interesting when he is doing the announcing.
dodgereric ~ rest up!
Re: Phils trading for Lee
FIRE NED!
Nelly, thank you SO much for letting us know Eric is ok. You’re pretty wonderful yourself!! 🙂
.
I remember EGBOK, Emma. Sure brings back interesting memories . . .
.
LET’S GO DODGERS – GET A WIN TONIGHT!
Good morning everyone, glad to hear Vin will be back!
.
.
Eric – Glad to hear you are home and resting up. Feel better!
A simple and quite way to honor Scully would be to retire a number (perhaps the total number of years he worked for the Dodgers) in his honor, and hang it below his broadcasting booth.
I’m so glad you are okay Dodgereric. Now, get your asss back here!
.
Dodger Baseball wouldn’t be the same without Vinny!
.
GO DODGERS…………….DODGER BLUE THRU & THRU!!!!
As a lifelong Dodger fan, I do not like waking up to news that the phillies traded for Cliff Lee. I have to say, I have never seen our team in such good position to go to the world series, this team is better than even the ’88 Dodgers. It is official though, we are struggling now. Our bullpen is done and our offense needs a spark. We have lost 3 in a row for the first time this year, and not only that but we are getting blown out. The Phillies are going to take out the dodgers this season again if our front office doesn’t pull off one heck of a trade. If our front office ends up making some stupid trade for a bullpen pitcher and nothing else, I promise this franchise will lose a bunch of loyal fans. Please get something done!!
I have to agree – Lee was there for the taking, especially while the Phils were busy talking to the Jays.
Last year, Manny fell into Frank and Ned’s lap, but I don’t see anything easy like that happening again. Let’s see what you’re made of Ned!
It doesn’t seem like the Phils gave up all that much, but, of course, it takes a pretty astute GM to pull off a major deal like that – something that we’ve never had since Frank’s ownership of the club. Now, let’s not go panicking and pick up some has-been for three or four good prospects, which is more Ned’s style. F Ned! F Frank too!
You guys worry too much. I’m sure Ned still has Estes’ number.
Well put, messagebear. I’d be worried if I was a Dodger fan.
How about switching Kemp and Blake Torre????
Would’nt a championship this season with the young guns intact, and the possibility of more in the future bring in added sponsorship??? I would think those would be some pretty big and sought after dollars in this day and age. JMO
I agree that we should’nt give up the youngsters on the squad. Although someone on the Team has to step up and earn their shot. There’s no time like the present.
.
GO DODGERS!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!
Don’t really care about Lee going to the Phils. Don’t play them anymore this season and if the Dodgers are fortunate enough to face them in the playoffs, may the best team win. Just keep repeating the mantra: build from within, build from within, build from within……….
The thing that really irritates me about the pending Philly trade is that they got the pitcher and OFer for 4 minor leaguers. Something tells me for our team to get that trade done, we would’ve have to given them at least 2 of those players at the major league level. Yet Cleveland gladly extracted their ace from their core for minor leaguers.
Everyone wants our kids… but they’re not kids anymore. Everyone wants our “prospects”, but they’re major leaguers. The Jacksonville 5 have probably played for the Dodgers as long as they have for the Suns. We don’t even have the AA Suns franchise anymore (though we have the famous Chattanooga Lookouts).
If that was the case, (and if it was, we know the familiar names of Bills/Kersh/Brox, Kemp/Ethier/Loney were involved) good job on not being panicky, Ned.
If not, then, well… would you expect anymore from a GM whose major “shining moment” came when a PEDing Boston malcontent who pushed down an elderly man “fell into his lap” (sorry Manny, but let’s be real)?
If this was Parliament, I’d call for a Vote of No Confidence. And George Clinton and Bootsy would be jamming, and it’d smell like Woodstock, but that’s besides the point…
Has anybody heard from Torre about how he feels when Lee could have been had for a couple of minor leaguers? Joe should understand that when it comes to Ned, any deal requires a premium from the Dodgers for no other reason than the dunce cap Ned is wearing in the company of any knowledgeable GM’s.
Messagebear ~ I thought I heard earlier that Joe wanted either Lee or Halladay. You know how he values pitching 🙂
I’m So…….Glad to hear about both, DodgerEric and Vinny…..
.
There ya go Eric, you can now say you were once mentioned in the same sentence as Vinny…..Enjoy your vacation and Welcome Back to Both.
.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!
Phils may have given up minor leaguers, but what if they were their top farm hands? Here’s an ominous Ned quote from yesteryear (re the Danny Beaz, Lance Carter trade): “Nobody in (the organization) believes Chuck Tiffany and Edwin Jackson won’t be big-league pitchers,” Colletti said. “But at the same time, our big-league club has certain needs.” How good would Jackson look in Dodger Blue right now? Now I know hindsight is 20/20, but I still say, build from within. Especially with Ned at the helm!
Eric, please take care of yourself. The Dodgers have been a bit woozy themselves the past few days.
I don’t know who Phil Wallace is but I suggest everyone read the article for which Josh provided the link above. You can ignore some of his criticism of local media if you want but I think his analysis of the Dodger’s current situation and abilaity to make a trade is right on target. He says what many here have said: the current core of this Dodger team is made up of players who are no longer prospects and are experienced major leaguers (and I will add who could start for any other team in the major leagues). Trading any of them at this time makes little sense unless a replacement player is available and from what little I know about the current group of Dodger prospects, they are in the same part of their development as this current group was a few years ago; promising but not quite ready. So the Dodgers may not have enough to swing a major trade.
Glad to hear, hope you guys salvage something from this series. Great game for the Halos today!
http://mattwestmoreland.mlblogs.com
Giants just acquired Freddy Sanchez from the Pirates.
I’m so sick of seeing the Giants getting QS from Lincecum and Cain there #1 and #2 starters or go pass 7th or 8th innings and we can’t.
Hi, Matt. How are you doing today? Hope your new blog is getting a lot of hits.
Shad ~ and they are winning games scoring 1 or 2 runs!
The Big Dodger in the sky has taken another one my post.
.
RIP D4″S POST
Yep even worst for me to see and I love to see Penny getting smack around again.
I don’t like losing, and hope that will end tonight. The good news of late is the rockies are losing too, but as Trublue has announced the gnats are bolstering their hitting Sanchez and Garko, they swept the pirates, not anything to be in awe of,but we shall get our chance soon. I agree we need some solid pitching both in BP and starting, I also think we would have it if our guns would start to fire all in row. So this is about where Manny came to us last year and turned it around, so I am confident we can push this team through August in the lead and relax in September, for the final assault for the ring.
I’ve heard Giants fan didn’t like this trade without given up Alderson
BPB ~ what you say is very true. I especially don’t understand Joe’s stubborness is batting Matty higher in the lineup. He possibly could be challenging Pujols for the triple crown. What a waste of a talented player.
Damn, I thought this time warp was gone! I posted after brownpaperbag but it appears ahead of him.
Unfortunately this team isn’t going anywhere unless Billz can pull his head out of his *** and Kuroda comes around to last year’s form. Right now its all on the kid. Wolf doesn’t impress me period. He doesn’t impress me when he wins. He doesn’t impress me when he loses. And he’s certainly no “go to” guy in the playoffs. 5 hole’s just a why bother altogether.
The starters don’t come together at least Tronco and Brox won’t be overworked bacause there won’t be any leads to protect.
And until JoJo the Idiot Clown starts getting Kemp more ABs than Blake and Martin… If Kemp was in front of Manny you’d see what a hitter this kid can be. That’s where Wise Old Joe comes in to retard his growth and bat him 8th. Another great call.
This was 1 of 2 pick from the Schmidt compensation pick and like I said with Garko I hope Sanchez bomb lol.
We all knew going into the winter meetings that this team needed pitching, especially starters. What did we get? Wolf at the last minute and Ohman at the last second. Fortunately Mota turned out to be a pony in a poop pile. The time to get mad at Ned was last winter. Now everything’s at a premium in addition to the “Ned premium” all GMs make him pay. That alone is enough for me to can his *** after this season if I was Frank.
What this club needs are real baseball people in important positions. Not PR men and figureheads in the dugout that can’t manage.
And even a ring ain’t gonna change my opinion on those two.
BPB, don’t hold back; tell us what you really think!
Hi Everybody
It’s wonderful to know that Vin will be back again next year.
I’d say he keeps the team intact and any changes will somehow seem unnoticeable.
Somehow I’ve drawn a conclusion that the Dodgers might be trying to hard.
I draw that from the fact that they are getting the hits with the bases empty, but fail to do so with men on.
I think they want to show that they are capable of doing well.
and may be pressing whenever there is an opportunity to score.
I think they should try to forget the importance of beating the Cardinals and just play like it’s just another day.
I could be wrong, but that’s just my opinion.
I recall a discussion a few weeks ago about whether Bills was an “ace” or not. Some of us argued he was, at least on this team. However, if one defines an “ace” as a pitcher who works into the 7th and 8th inning on a regular basis, has good control and at worst keeps his team in a position to win, and more often than not stops losing streaks, then Bills has a long way to go to be called an ace. I still think he can do it, I just wish he would.
And what is up with all the wild pitches this season coming not only from the Dodger pitching staff but even from the opponents? Any ideas?
🙂
In spite of JoJo the clown and Ned asleep at the switch, I’m sure we’ll stumble across the finish line somehow. With the good deals having been made, let’s make sure that Ned doesn’t wake up until August 1st, because when he reacts, watch out. I’m satisfied with keeping what we’ve got, and I suppose we will go to the playoffs – we just don’t have a pitching staff that would intimidate anybody who’s good enough to be in the playoffs; therefore, we’ll wait longer to be in the Series. I would rather build a dynasty than make it to the top one year and fade away the next.
I still say: FIRE NED and then SELL THE TEAM, Frank.
I would say WHY DON’T YOU RETIRE, Joe, but you, of course, already have retired and are now just slowly going senile.
So the Phillies get Lee and we get Schmidt….
As a buddy of mine would say knouff:
.
Shot at and missed. Schmidt at and hit.
.
(or something to that effect.)
Whatever ya do Manny don’t hit into a DP.
Who’s starting on Friday? Oh, yeah, we got Schmidt. Too bad, I was hoping for Loretta. Better keep him in the pen that night.
17 innings without a run
What has Casey done for us lately except stink up the middle of the lineup?
• Phillies land ’08 Cy winner Lee from Tribe
• Giants acquire Sanchez from Pirates
• Mariners acquire Wilson, Snell from Bucs
MEANWHILE…
• Schmidt gets call for Dodgers on Friday
What has anybody done?
Actually everyone been stinking it up.
BPB ~ we are working on getting Sherrill, feel better BPB? LOL
Good point Brooklyn.
Still, Blake has been particularly bad lately.
Nice catch Matt
Well then Tru I guess the day is saved.
Looks like the bag stays on indefinitely…
Cmon offense, lets not make it 18
Thought so, BPB 🙂
For what it’s worth, our last win was Casey hitting a walk off single
LMAO!!!
It’s hard to blame any particular player with no runs in 17 innings.
You know what’s pathetic? Pujols has more HRs than Russell has RBIs.
If Matt were batting higher in the order, he could be challenging Pujols for the triple crown.
Another leadoff hit wasted, 18 and counting
We’re challenging for the triple clown: Joe, Ned and Frank.
Well too early for this snoozer of a game to put me to sleep, so I’ll check back later. Hope to at least see we got a run.
Triple Clown, now that is funny.
lbirken ~ I have a feelng Triple Clown will be used a lot!
19 innings without a run F this, i’m goin to work cause thats substantially more fun than watching this team play right now
For whatever reason the Dodgers came out of the All Star break flat. What the heck happened?
What happened? The Marlins and the Cardinals.
At least are real ace is still getting better after every start now if he can cut the walk than he can go 7 to 8 innings.
Wow, a run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF Casey doesn’t score>>>>>>>>>>er.
about freaking time Blake now let get that run in
At Last L O N E Y
after i type that we scored.
BROWNPAPERBAG…………ARE YOU THERE?!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE GOT A RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, I was so looking forward to Martin playing in Toronto.
Loney now leads team in RBI with 63.
WE SCORED and we’re LEADING.
Let’s all jump and sing.
sigh another freaking dp.
It’s funny bluesplash leave and we scored.
lol we might give up that run back sigh come on Kershaw
Nice Kershaw we needed that
Can we just clone 10 Kershaw and trade one of them?
OK Kersh, You shut them down.
Atta way to go kid.
more god damn dp
All those criticizing Casey Blake
Keep it up.
Good to see KERSH make it through 6.
He’s still looking good.
If we can only get to Pineiro.
It’s getting to be a pleasure to watch Kersh pitch. I also notice how much he comes inside to the hitters, something that Billz is very averse to doing. I think that’s part of Billz’ problems.
Anyway, I hope we can win this one for Kersh. He deserves it.
Martin wussy bat should permanently bat #8; at least until he goes to Toronto (hopefully).
This team needs to make pineiro work, not swing at the first pitch , Right J. Martin
As long as he keep down his walk he’s can go into game and someday could be better than Halladay.
Urgh dp now
Casey was coming up to bat as I turned my computer off, then by the time I got in my car and turned on XM it was 1-0. I thought my radio was broke! We need this win so bad, giants will only be 7 back if we lose
LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO!!!!!!!
Martin wussybat still have a stats lines of 338 .420 .423 .842 this month wonder what Blake line look like?
I am now on the messagebear train, trade Martin now! He’s my favorite player but he hurts this team every day he’s out there. Start Ausmus
Torre should learn something about that Ludwick sacrifice.
He hardly ever does it with position players.
Blake this month and should bat 8th .213 .333 .320 .653
THANK-YOU MANNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT CATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kemp this month .342 .432 .513 .945
Great catch Manny
ATTA WAY M A N N Y.
stupid mlb.tv doesnt work at my work, how good of a catch was it, on gameday it looked like it was almost out, fill me n guys, I need somethin to be happy about!
Awesome, was it web gem worthy for baseball tonite? 2 more innings Dodgers, please hang on!
Manny!!!
funny that you put an asterisk before something that Manny did, i know it’s to signify a mistype, but lol
we need some insurance runs Dodgers!!
Bluesplash ~ it was a great catch. Manny was even surprised e did it! JP would never have done it because he isn’t tall enough!
* he did it
Walk to pujols, holliday walk off homer…I really hope i’m wrong
Kersh ~ you are AWESOME tonight!!!!
Urgh Manny need to stop striking out more.
COME ON DODGERS, LETS ADD TO THE SCORE!!!!
We’re putting up a toe to toe battle with the Cards most of the time, they’re really just edging us out with that big inning and late last night.
As Charlie just said ~ “Kersh is dazzling tonight”!
This is like the first time Kershaw is pitching in the 8th innings I think. I don’t know if he ever got pulled in the 8th inning before.

Wow Broxton suck on the road.
C’mon Mark!
Good evening all.
Kershaw sure seems to be dialed in. What a pitching gem!
To all the nay sayers from earlier this season saying the young man needed more time in the minors for seasoning, I’m sure your eating those words now. Seems like something just started clicking for Kersh a little over a month ago. Doing this well at his age is phenominal. This young man has quite a future ahead of him.
An insurance run would be nice here……WTG LONEY!!!
A couple more runs would be nice……and then, Broxton can save the game for Kershaw.
So much for that but it was predictable.
I just put the game on. I finally wrestled the computer away from my wife. What a performance by Kershaw! What a catch by Manny! We got to win this game now.
Unreal, I cant believe how bad our offense is right now
or have Kemp bat in the 3rd spot or at least swap with Blake.
What a waste! Too many risp being left on base in this recent skid.
Brox hasn’t got it easy here. You know who is due up.
He’s prolly still tired from pitching yesterday
This is going to be scary
Kershaw was strong in the last inning. He worked his way out of a jam earlier and did’nt look back…. WHAT A PERFORMANCE!!!!
Better a SO than Martin hitting into DP…….come on Matt!
Russell Martin should just be shot and put out of our misery.
They will probably walk Matt………then you get Loretta or PP.
See, told you!
wohooooooooooooooooooooooo Broxton owned Holliday.
PATHETIC.
Crap……this is why you need a power bat on the bench!
urgh come on
You must be psychic tb4! When did we forget how to hit?
Thar she blows!!!!!
I hate to say the unthinkable, but pinchhitting with Loretta is just stupid when you have PP available.
COM’ON JON
Come through right here.
This is the biggest game of the year, in my opinion.
CRAP!!!
Furcal!!!
geez damn
tbw ~ i feel more psychotic (not sure avbout the spelling) than psychic! lol
Broxton suck on the road.
*about
BIG OUT # 1
Damn shame! Kersh deserved the win.
BIIIG #2
Brox is having a brain fart.
I don’t believe this sh**!
Don’t give up
Stay in there.
Son of a @#$%$#@$$&### Cardinals#$%$##!!!!!!!
That’ll teach us to send two pitchers to the All Star game – they come back all F’d up.
Nice. Blows fastballs by the guy then throws him a change-up that he can catch up to.
I’m done. I can’t take anymore of this crap.
32&53 Don’t forget the wild pitch. If that didn’t happen it’s 1st & 3rd and maybe he gets the next guy out.
Broxton was pretty rusty tonight. Two balls right down the middle, belt high cost the save.
No such luck oldbrooklynfan.
Come on Ethier
Does anybody remember that site I posted here a couple of months ago that tracks a game real time and shows a graph of which team has the momentum? It also shows the expected percentage of a team to win the game.
I wanted to look up the graph and see if the line suddenly shifted from the Dodgers side to the Cardinals when they tied it up.
Torre wasted a brilliant effort by Kershaw by his bush league managing. I am SICK of seeing Kemp bat 8th. This would have been a different game if Torre would use some common sense and not stick Kemp in a position where the opposition can pitch around him. Then he pulls Kershaw to let Lorretta bat. It’s really getting hard to care anymore when you have a manager that doesn’t give the team their best chance at winning.
Wouldn’t be something to see Andre lounch one here.\On the road.
Are they just prolonging the suffering?
We’re still alive.
RALLY TIME!!!!
Good going Casey.
LaRussa would be bunting here.
I didn’t even realize this but since 2004 they seem to owned us.
CARDINALS-DODGERS CELEBRATE 2K
The Cardinals’ 10-0 win over the Dodgers was the 2000th regular-season game played between the two franchises since 1892, when the Cardinals entered the National League. The Dodgers began playing in the National League in 1890. The Dodgers lead the all-time series, 993-991, with 16 games having ended in a tie. Included are two games played in 1946 in a best-of-three tie-breaker to determine that year’s National League pennant. The Cardinals swept the series and defeated the Red Sox in the World Series. Wednesday’s game was the 18th between the teams in which one team posted a double-digit shutout victory.
Evening Blogmates.
I got the tv mute, Jaime on the radio and working the ‘puter.
.
You did great Kershaw! Let’s hope that we ge the win
.
The vultures will get the win
Emma
http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/
Nevermind. I found it. http://www.fangraphs.com/livescoreboard.aspx
The line shifted back to our side.
LaRussa would be bunting here.
Maybe just maybe……..
Maybe this time we’ll make our poem ryhm.
Shad,
I was there in 2006 when we lost the four game series. In the first game in extra innings, Pujols hit a walk-off off Odalis, the ball was caught by a Dodger fan two rows infront of me.
.
This win is going to the Vultures.
Nice work Troncoso!! Let’s get 3 or 4 runs NOW!!!
YES YES YES a thousand times yes.
The Vultures is our bullpen just to clarify because they just come in and steal a win.
Oh Man- hold this lead.
Now pitching billy goat Franklin
We shall see what Torre pulls off after this inning, right now Im shaking
I think we are putting up a good fight against one of baseball best teams at a time when runs are very hard to get.
Martin stinks!
Tronco is not cut out for this, Brox blew it and now mota should be in
Come on Martin you owe us
Thank-goodness!
Wow what happen both runner tag who **** up thank god
Elbert Scratched From Albuquerque Start
Left-hander Scott Elbert, scheduled to start for Albuquerque Wednesday night, was scratched. Unless he was injured, he’s either about to be recalled by the Dodgers or traded. — Ken Gurnick
I almost —- my pants watching Casey Blake score on that play.
I bet he is traded, Shad.
http://kengurnick.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/07/elbert_scratched_from_albuquer.html
Does anyone read ken blog?
tbw ~ and PP was almost going to get an at-bat! I’ll bet he was ticked off when Joe called him back, and he didn’t get to hit!
Too much drama!
I don’t know how much more of this I can take……
I was hoping Wolf or Kuo to PH.
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!
Yea They knew tronco asnt getting the curve over, so of course Fastball and smack. Where was mota or even kou
Shad,
I don’t. so many things to read, so little time.
.
C’mon Lechero. You can get win #5.
.
Sparkle,
Recently I found my EGBOK pin.
Not looking good right now! Settle down, damn it!
Emma,
Was EGBOK from the Ken and Bob Company show on KABC in the mornings?
Yeah we got Pujols now dp time.
Kahli ~ I think LaRussa and Torre are clones…….both highly over-rated too! Both blow through bullpens. Both make dumb moves most of the time.
Kahli ~ they were both just lucky to have good players on their teams which in turn made them look better than they actually are!
Thank you for saving the game Andre!
PLEEEEEEASE!!!
Not another BP implosion!!!
Tremendous play by MANNY.
Damn, I’m in the time warp again! This is getting tiring!
yes 32and53! I used to listen to them. I don’t remember how I got the pin but when I saw someone with one, I knew I had mine somewhere.
EGBOK Everything’s Gonna Be OK.
.
darn it.
As much as I don’t like LaRussa, he’s heads and shoulders above Torre on the food chain.
If we get out of this inning alive, I wouldn’t know what to say.
Praying that Kershaw give me a cg/shutout I need it in my fantasy league since I’m getting my butt kick and my pitching been horrible thanks mostly to my relievers and also got screw by the Yankees with Chamberlain.
I think because I am nervous I am following several game threads. I hate that the radio is faster than the TV, and the TV downstairs is faster than the one upstairs so I hear my brother either clapping or cursing.
I knew we should had PH and let Kuo closed it out.
Great catch by ETHIER, considering the circumstances.
This is certainly a playoff type game. The way our bullpen has performed has scared me.
Ok I was staying away because I thought I was jinxing the team, but no it’s bad pitching and no offense
EGBOK – Small world, I used to work with the guy in this story
http://articles.latimes.com/1985-07-04/entertainment/ca-9294_1
CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow This is some battle.
Sigh I posted that cg/sho for Kershaw 1 hrs ago
Pepe, I agree with you. Is time for Manny to contribute with his bat tonight!
Cards defense has really been tough this series
Come on Casey!! Burn em!!
I disagree shad, you had to take a chance and try to score. Give credit to Ludwick for a great throw.
geez ****
ALMOST BUT NOT QUITE
We had to take the chance
Great throw beat us.
geez ****
How dare Bowa sent Manny with Loney up?
Damn an ex dodgers with a 1 out double.
OH YES he’s out on the appeal.
I love it.

Wow this game is freaking insane
Now is a good time to win after that break, it will really shove it to the fans.
That the 2nd times we got lucky still remember the Church when we played the Mets and Loretta was the 3rd baseman.
Martin needs to sit & ride the pine for a while. Let Ausmus fill in for a bit.
How do we do this?
blah
after thought: if torre pinch runs JP for MANNY back in the 12th:
It’s better to be lucky then not to be Shad15.
I don’t know but I have a bad feeling this would be it but still going to pray we get this to the 14.
Elbert being scratched not related to trade….per LA Times from talking to Colletti
That is the guero I like to see!
Wow k’s Pujols is always good now it’s Holliday turned.
OMG they listen to me.
Great pitch to strike out Holiday!
W E A V E R
Something have to give.
Nice single Furcal here we go we need a big innings and not 1 lousy run.
How about a 3 run Hr now
A sacrifice? How often do you see that?

Brian,
very nice story! thanks! Small world indeed.
They should just ibb Blake and Loney to face Martin something have to give soon.
No mailman delivery and casey struck out…….
I guess not damn Ethier and Blake.
The fact that this game had an early start helps a lot.
Go Weaver Go
I left the house almost an hour ago to get to the store before it closed at 9 and just got back. Looks like I did not miss anything.
We need some damn runs now. How come we couldn’t hold them in the 11?
I think back to broxton in the 9th and how this so depletes the BP with what went down another beer anyone?
Come on end this and we do have the same team tomorrow.
Let’s go Loney, Martin and Kemp.
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww geez a freaking lead off triple Ryan 1st god damn hit
Thanks for making me happy I’m retired Truebluewill.
why is martin swinging first pitch, for a second uneventful AB
oldbrooklynfan that’s it for me. I have to get up for work in 4 hours. I hope they win while I’m dreaming
koufax ~ Games like this could drive one to drink……….
MASS QUANTITIES!!!
AT LEAST WE MADE THEM WORK FOR IT.
I have not even had dinner so I am going to have a bowl of cereal
.
C’mon guerito!
weaver should of stuck with the slider. Good Night! Tomorrow we win, 7 games up the the gnats is all I can stand
oh well. good night everyone. Let’s salvage one game tomorrow.
Tough loss. They came so close. I was hoping Joe would take a chance with just one run and leave Kershaw in for the 9th. He didn’t show any signs of cracking.
WOW–a pleasure to watch…sort of. This bump in the road was coming; at least it’s against a great team in the Dodgers’ personal house of horrors. That said, Torre had better realize his potent offense hasn’t been potent for quite a while now. I feel that’s a reflection of his batting order, which is completely whack and has been for quite a while now. And most fans, especially the ITD crowd, has been pi**ed off for quite a while now. As this team heads into August Uncle Joe needs to put on his thinking cap, put ALL emotion and psychology and warm fuzzies aside, and create a line-up that gives this team the best chance to succeed–and STICK with it. And while he’s at it, he’s got a veteran catcher hitting .305 just twiddling his thumbs on the bench. And one last thing–how many geniuses out there, sports writers included, still want to package Kershaw to get Halladay?
WOW idk about eveyrone else but this game could be still playing! y the F would u play pujols shallow! y didnt the D go back to normal depth! okay i understand w/ 0 or 1 out but geez mann get in your head in the game! Weaver did a great job and pujols hit should be a lineout if kemp was playing at normal depth! at this point in the season im just looking toward the postseason espicially w/ kershaw and wolf being cheated of their wins and not being able to be as recognized as the other pitchers in the NL! does anybody else agree w/ me about the D’s positioning!!! wow speechless!!
Good evening everybody. Tough loss again.
.
I just got in from a 13 hour work day after getting only 4 hours of sleep. & while I’m tired, I’m not to bummed. I think a little adversity can build character and might just be what this team needs.
.
I heard the end of the game on the way home.
.
My only question is why didn’t they play for the DP in the last inning w/runners on 1st & 3rd as opposed to going home and then having to face Albert? That didn’t make sense to me. The Cards announcers said they were playing up for the play at the plate.
.
I agree with pretty much everybody that has been moaning to have the order changed. The bummer is that I think we’ve outhit the Cards in each game but lost all 3. In the series we’ve scored 3 runs in 33 innings. Simple math is 1 per 11 innings.
.
Some changes need to be made. Martin needs to get some rest. 0-7 is a bad night. He should probably get a couple of days off.
.
I hope all is well with everybody. I’m glad Eric is better.
.
Take care…
No more Furcal Hudsonh Ethier Manny Kemp Loney do it Torre I dare you.
Sammie — Yes I agree. I started typing my previous post about 30 minutes ago & my Wife came home so we’ve been chatting. I finished and posted it and you had said the same thing.
.
I didn’t see the last hit so I’m not sure where Kemp was playing, but listening to it on the radio that was what I yelled to myself in the car.
I think Kersh is getting plenty of reconition, the Jay’s and Indians were both drueling over him and Billz. Tough break for the kid and the team tonight. They appeared to be fired up and had some intensity, we also limited the errors of the past few day’s. I like Wolf he has kept alot of opponents under 2 runs this season, without the team scoring 2 runs, while he was in. He supposedly has changed some mechanics and that will hopefully lead to longer starts. He needs help and right now the runs are few and far between. we are playing a good team at home who just had a morale boost with Holliday, while we continue to sit and wonder as to the status of our club. The status of our club is still leading the league in wins. Keep up the intensity.. This game ought to fester and make those levels even higher in the future. No excuses!!!!
No more Furcal, Hudson, Ethier, Manny, Kemp, Loney, Blake Martin do it Torre I dare you.
Furcal
Hudson
Manny
Ethier
Kemp
Loney
Blake
Martin/Ausmas
I think Ausmas should get two starts per week, just as promised to JP–it makes Martin hungrier and keeps him stronger. Joe likes to play Country Doc with the struggling players…did the same thing last season with Andruw that he’s doing with Martin…keep playing him, keep batting him in the middle of the order…keep hoping.
They’re the guys that have gotten us where we are so far, which is still something to be proud of. They’re going through a rough patch now, but they’ll rebound.
Wow so much for getting drafted 3rd overall from USC in the 2005 draft. That was a wasted pick from the Mariners. I guess the Mariners have a better younger catcher in their system now.
Well, that was an exciting game up to a point. In the end, a lot of good wasted effort by Kersh, and even Weaver, who can’t be blamed that our lineup can’t score. There’s no way to compare the quality of the middle of our lineup with Pujols, now Holliday and Ludwick with Manny, Andre and Blake. Torre won’t bring Kemp into play in the middle for his own reasons, and Martin is a total waste in any clutch situation – just look at his total RBI’s. The truth is also that we have no help on the bench. Loretta is useless in the pinch and PP is hardly any better. I don’t know why we don’t seek any improvement in that respect. We just ride the dead horses like Sweeney last year and now Loretta. Maybe it’s time to bring up Abreu, since DeWitt didn’t provide much in that respect either.
In reality, despite our record, we have a very weak team, and unless a bunch of guys in this lineup shape up in the remaining weeks, this division championship is no cinch.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4366335
Guess there WS were tainted and I’m sorry but get that cheater off this team.
Too bad Ortiz look like a god damn fool with this comment.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2009/news/story?id=3911153
Why don’t they just come out and give us the remaining 100 players! They keep saying they can’t do it but they are….it’s just one player at a time! Remember, there are still 100 out there who also tested positive and probably some who were lucky enough to pass a test but were still guilty of using.
And, A-Rod, Pettitte, Canseco, Mota plus others are still playing.
Sorry i meant Giambi! Canseco actually started this whole mess!
And where’s Selig in the midst of all this? Waiting for his tenure to end so he can pass this mess on to the next guy is my guess.
Not surprising that Manny has always been a cheater, nor the fact that Josh and the rest of our management will gladly cover it up. Hey, why not give him another bobblehead night as long as the fans will eat it up.
Does this mean that the Red Sox never did win the World Series in 2004 and 2007? Then we can go back to talking about the Babe Ruth curse as to why they haven’t won since 1918?
Since these two guys were on the attached list, does that validate the list?
http://thesteroidera.blogspot.com/
It’s almost easier to publish who wasn’t on the list!
It funny it always Manny but we know Mota did it but guess Mota not a big stars lol. I’m still waiting on Howard, Victorino, Rollins probably Ibanez and even Stairs on this listed.
Whoever the culprit is leaking these names should be fired! Confidential means confidential! I despise the person responsible for the leaks more than the players who tested positive.
Preach it Tru!!!
The Rockies lost again to bad the Giants don’t have a 4 games losing streak.
Elbert and Josh Bell for Sherrill???

Dodgers get Sherrill:

So, we keep Elbert (for now). Nice.
Yeah, crash, I saw that Elbert link and I was ready to fire Ned on the spot!
No I wanted to keep Bell ****.
Bell/Johnson
Hang onto your hats, Ned is still chasing Halladay. And hang onto Bills/Kersh/Brox/Kemp/Ethier
Steven Johnson (RHP 6′ 1″ 185 Age 21) Drafted in the 13th round of the ’05 draft.
2009 with A adv Inland Empire and AA Chattanooga 9-5 3.61 ERA 117 K 107.1 IP 1.370 WHIP.
Josh Bell (3B 6′ 3 235 Age 22) Drafted in the fourth round of the ’05 draft.
2009 with AA Chattanooga, .296/.386/.497/.883 with 11 HR in 332 AB.
I’d still fired Ned on the spot.
I love switch hitting player esp one at 3rd and even catcher.
Josh Bell has proved nothing yet. Andy LaRoche was the Dodgers top prospect a couple years ago and he’s barely hanging on to a major league job. Think of all the prospects that have come and gone since the last WS appearance in ’88.
Anyone not on the major league roster is bait for Halladay IMO, and you can throw Russell Martin in that mix as well.
I think it’s going to be something like Elbert/McDonald/Gordon/Dewitt and 2 to 3 more prospect and I seriously don’t know why Toronto won’t bite on this one?
The Dodgers are dragging their feet with Elbert and McDonald, so you might as well trade them before they flame out and are worthless like Greg Miller.
Toronto will bite on a decent deal. All of their gyrations (including the fake July 28 deadline) are negotiation ploys.
Yes, Scott! Martin definitely should be available for any reasonable trade, and it wouldn’t have to be even Halladay. I would take a pinchhitter and utility player that can keep his average above .250 and hit an occasional HR. Loretta STINKS, Martin SUCKS!!!
I think Martin’s visa should be revoked for entering the country under false pretenses – masquerading as a major league ballplayer. I’d take him back to the Canadian border and kick his sorry asss over in the direction of Toronto as hard as is possible. Any return for him would be strictly gratuitous – miserable catcher impersonator.
I don’t consider no 39th rounder a top prospect and to bad there all can’t be in the Piazza potential and Bell turned out as another Konerko I won’t be happy.
lol.
So, messagebear, I take that you are not too fond of Martin?
It is looking like he was an inflated phony star catcher now isn’t it? Colin Cowherd on ESPN said today that he knows of 2 players on the Dodgers not named Manny that are/were roids users – one doesn’t pitch much and the other plays a lot.
My guess: Schmidt and Martin, with one eye open on Furcal.
Yeah why not Greg Miller to bad injuries kill him and what happen to Justin Ofenduff or whatever his name is?
WELCOME TO THE CLUB…… MR SHERRILL!!!!
.
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!!
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!
If Martin would had been spent all of his time batting 8th no one would say anything at all.
Guess this mean Leach would be sent down poor guy.
Sherrill gives Torre one more arm to burn out in the bullpen.
new thread.
Leach never belonged on the big club in the first place and Orenduff retired after getting released earlier this year.
ouch I just found it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Orenduff
I wonder why he retired.
