This Saturday!

For those of you who have not seen the story that Ken Gurnick did on Nomar yesterday, check it out. It touches on his baseball future (still unsure, according to Nomar) and his charitable present, as he and Mia are hosting their second annual celebrity soccer game this weekend. For anyone who went last year, it was a great event and raised more than $150,000 for bone marrow donation awareness and research.

Also this Saturday is your first chance to purchase individual tickets for games at Camelback Ranch during Spring Training. Given that we played in front of standing room only games during all of our Cactus League games last year, I’d imagine they’ll move quickly, so be sure pick a week (or weekend) to come out and then hop online and get your tickets.

And finally, on a very sad note, we just got word that former Dodger coach Preston Gomez passed away today. As some of you might recall, he was hit by a car during Spring Training last year and it seems he never really recovered. I know that he was close with a number of people in the organization and our hearts go out to his family and friends. Here’s what his former manager, Tommy Lasorda had to say:

“The man spent his entire life in baseball. He came from Cuba and got the opportunity to work for the Dodgers. Al Campanais gave him an opporunity to be in professional bsaeball. He managed at least three major league teams and was a credit to the game. We are very sorry to see him pass away. He wore the Dodger uniform with pride and dignity. He has helped a lot of people in our game and he will be missed.”

My condolences go out to the Preston Gomez family…

I, too, would like to send condolences to the Gomez family. I think Crash’s idea, from the previous thread, on Dye wasn’t too shabby.

Hey Tru! That three-way trade crash proposed on the last thread would be nice. It would be nice to have Jermaine Dye and Gavin Floyd. But, like I said, I think it would take more than JP, Bennett, and Brazoban to Texas…

Oh, and Tru, I read from the last thread. Thx for bringing up my earlier question as to why is no one talking about acquiring Jon Garland…

Thanks Josh. Sorry to hear about Preston Gomez. My condolences as well.

Our thoughts and prayers to the Preston Gomez family. By all accounts a fine human being as well as a solid baseball man.

If memory serves, the man who was driving the truck that injured him was very upset at the scene. I’m sure he’s re-living that hell today. We should keep him in our prayers as well. It was an accident.

You are welcome, CP. I know we would probably have to trade an arm & a leg for some quality players. I’m just hoping someone out there is desperate!

Add my condolences for Preston’s family as well.

Josh, sorry to read the sad news about Preston Gomez. I remember him very well. He was the consummate gentleman and a warm caring human being. We will miss him. Please pass along my condolences to his family.

Ya know Tru, I wish I knew more about Texas, but I don’t. Since I’m a NL girl and they’re in the AL… (blecch…) I don’t know what they need. I mean, if we get Young in a trade, I know that the Rangers will need a starting 3B. That’s where I wouldn’t mind parting with DeWitt (too bad I can’t just say Blake and everyone knows who I mean…) But outside of that, I don’t know what they need that we might be willing to supply them… Any thoughts from anyone???

Hi there. Changed my name from “iwastherein88” to something more identifiable.

Regarding trades:

Sign Manny and Wolf and play ball!

Well, I was going to stay and talk a bit more, but oh, my aching back… oh, my aching shoulder… I’ll catch up with y’all later…

Sorry to hear about Preston Gomez.

As far as Spring Training tickets go, I read today that the Dodgers have some games designated as premium games that will carry an extra $2-5 charge to them. Can someone within the Dodgers organization please explain to me how any game with the majority of the guys playing with 90’s for numbers and no names on the back of their jerseys can possibly be called premium? Really, can’t the Dodgers be happy with already ridiculous prices that they are charging at McCourt Ranch? The fact that someone within the organization even thought this was a good idea just goes to show what the team feels about the fans. They are there to take as much money from as possible and that is it!

I’m sure that money is going to some good use like buying more Malibu property or building more baseball fields. As Jaime likes to say, “What about the kids?”

Later CP!!

Hey scott – wazzup in Arcadia?

Scott ~ much easier than “iwastherein88”.

Good Afternoon ITD readers and writers!!!!

Josh – thanks for keeping us informed when things like this happen to the Dodger family. My thoughts and prayers are with the Preston family.

I guess the Dodgers haven’t done anything that’s productive and GOOD today because brownpaperbag is still here.

Hi and bye CP!!! It’s been one of those crazy days 🙂

Hey Scott!! You could have kept that name. It would have eventually sunk in, along with the other name changes lately.

Hey guys!

who is brownpaperbag? enchanted?

I am not quite ready to put a brown paper bag over my head but I am tired of T.J. Simers calling season ticket holders stupid for renewing their seats for 2009 because he believes the product in inferior and he doesn’t like the McCourts. Simers concludes that by renewing season tickets at about the same pace as last season, management sees this as approval or lack of concern about what it does to put a winning, championship team on the field. I can’t help what management chooses to think but Simers needs to understand that most season ticketholders renew because they enjoy coming out to games (or using them as a business tool) and don’t want to give up good seats. It is not stupidity that keeps many of us coming back nor is it an indication we approve of everything that the team does. If anything, management has to attract almost as many non season ticket holders to help fill the stadium and buy food, beverages and other stuff. I resent someone who does not have to purchase tickets and is not much of a fan anyway telling me I am stupid for doing so.

LOL!!! yep 🙂

lbirken – I guess what you’re saying is that you can be a season ticket holder and still despise the McCheap’s?

scott ~ the “yep” was for you 🙂

lbirken – We may be upset with the way things are being handled, but we aren’t going to stop being Dodger fans or even baseball fans for that matter.

Valid points lbirken! It would be nice to drop the seats in protest and get them back after your point has been made, but that ain’t happ’nin’ is it?

Maybe we should throw shoes at him?

I’ve heard of people giving up their season tickets because the team signed a player they don’t like.

Hey, I was gonna say that!

That would do the trick, unknown! lol

Yes to scott, not so sure to eric; and unkown, I will have to get back to you on that idea. But as usual, you folks always find a way to make me laugh.

lbirken ~ better to laugh, than to cry, isn’t it? lol

unknown – I will have to check the youtube when I get home later on and let you know.

trublu – that was my neighbor teacher, and that is just her.

Nelly ~ that’s who I was talking about but I didn’t want to be too specific. I wonder what some of our season ticket holders would do if we signed Barry Bonds.

Right on, trublu. I am not going to ponder on the Bonds question because some things are better left alone.

Just kidding, lbirken. lol

I hammer the Dodgers as much as anyone here, but I am also a season ticket holder and I don’t plan on giving them up anytime soon (my boys middles names are Koufax, Drysdale and Robinson for a reason!). However, even though I live in SoCal, I had season tickets to spring training the last 2 years running, and this year I did not buy any at McRanch because of the prices. I had seats right above the visitor’s on-deck circle 8 rows back for $20 per ticket. Needless to say, those tickets are much higher now at McRanch, so I guess I have decided to take some money out of McChump’s pocket, but I will not give up my tickets at Dodger Stadium. I still love the team regardless if I think the owner is a blabbering idiot.

My condolence to the Preston Gomez family and to all those who knew him well.

I love the McRanch name. I can understand not paying such high prices for spring games. I would not pay major league prices for minor league games sitting in the Arizona heat. Anyway, have a great evening.

clhuerth ~ I rant and rave about the way things are done with our Dodgers but, I am always a fan, too. Have been for many years and no matter what, will continue to root for my team. I just wish Frank would respect the fans a little bit more and try to put the best team possible on the field every year. As much as I like to cheer for te Dodger Blue, I like winning even more!

I think we can all agree about supporting the D’s regardless of ownership or team quality. I know some on this blog periodically threaten to begin supporting our AL neighbors to the south but, regardless of the D’s circumstances, that’s somewhere I would never go…. I see from the last thread’s trade talk that some of you have been sneaking sips from the sacramental wine or taking belts from the ITD flask out of season. A three-way trade?? Frank and Ned can’t even negotiate a one-on-one free agent signing let alone something as complicated as a multi team deal. You’d have to bring your “A” list of players to get either Young or Dye. I guess that’s fantasy baseball, Hot Stove League style.

Seesky ~ I, like you, would never support another team….especially the Halos. This isn’t Fantasy Land? lol

Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!

seesky – I like watching other teams, but I love and follow the Dodgers.

Its Fantasy Island and Ned is Tatoo to Frank’s Mr. Roarke. (Trust me, picturing Ned as Tatoo makes his signings easier to take.)

Smiles everyone, smiles! I just bought another $30 million estate.

Thath pretty keen bothe!

LOL!!! ~ I guess we are still waiting for something good to happen in Dodgerville. You do realize this can be a very, very, very long wait? Yes, I know, you know – LMAO!!!!!

Its a contest of wills now. If they can wait, so can I!

Practicing perserverence or stubborness – good for you!!!

Unless some changes are made, this might be my moniker all season. Right now many of Ned’s signings resemble Gong Show contestants.

very well understood 🙂

Perserverance will go only so far. Eventually, the season starts.

LOL!!!! that’s true

Some of Ned’s signings are never easy to take. Mo Mota, anyone?????

If these signings don’t get any better, I’ll need another case of Pepto Abysmal!!!!!

I don’t get on here much.. and I am the type of person who respects others and the team the choose to like… but why is it that I always have the most trouble with the Giant fans I know…. Especially from someone who can’t even tell me one current player for them lol anyhow its just rude and frustrating for someone to attack the team I root for when they clearly have no clue about baseball to begin with lol That is why it is nice to have ITD where im in good company with all Dodger fans 🙂

Happens to me all the time from the gnat fans up here. I think alot of the time they don’t think I know anything about whats going on so they think they can just role over me with their famous line “Dodgers Suck” without realizes what their team has actually accomplished in the last 50 years……absolutely nothing!!!

okay – alot of red pen action in that comment – forgive me 🙂

Good evening everyone…lots of laughs on the site today…We really know how to wow the fans with the signings we have had this offseason…One encouraging note I was listening to Cecil Cooper on MLB radio today and he mentioned what a locker room leader Mark Loretta was…

This has been one of the strangest offseasons that I can remember…The Dodgers have not been rumored to be talking to anyone except Manny…We have to sign some pitchers…Wolf/Garland at this point do something….

Sorry to hear about Preston Gomez…

Congrats to Ricky and Jim Rice..Long overdue for Rice, what a hitter he was….

As for Michael Young, after listening to MLB radios Joel Sherman, i do not want him….he is declining and is not worth 80 million over the next 5 years…He is declining in a hitters park….Blake Dewitt will be fine lets let him develop….We need Manny and pitching and lets get to McRanch…..

Urgh why but guess we don’t need him no more?

Maybe we can sign Gagne back since Mota resigning. Maybe Gagne would change his mind and take a paycut to come back with us.

Did anyone watch the Lakers/Rockets game last night? I wasn’t so shock to see that Loney is a Rockets fan growing up in Houston.

ENOUGH already. Sign Manny, Jon Garland and Randy Wolf and lets get ready for spring training. We need pitching. What are we waiting for???????????????
I’m tired of this waiting.

Good Morning boblee. Signing a player of importance would be a positive sign. It would be nice to start the season thinking it is going to be a very good year.

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!!

No “good” news I guess. I guess we will be seeing brownpaperbag once again today.

Hey Boblee!!! Good to see you this morning, and you are right……..I have no clue of what we are waiting for.

Good Morning Trublu!!!

I have a feeling we will see brownpaperbag and unknowndodgerfan for quite some time! lol

Great article, dodgereric.

Poor Vinny, he’s really going to have his work cut out for him this season.

We need to soak in all of him that we can, Tru.

Yeah! – Billz is going to Arizona…….that’s one good thing 🙂

Good Morning Ward Dear!!!

Mornin’ Junie!

Can someone please enlighten me? Why do we see sentences like this (speaking of the Mets)………
“They are also weighing a run at Ben Sheets, but are wary of his injury history.”

……..when AJ Burnett got biiiiiig bucks with a history of injuries that makes Sheets look like Cal Ripken Jr? Granted, the Yanks have no conscience, but at least the Braves were hot on his trail, and there were one or two others as well.

Did he snap something in his arm at the end of last season? I haven’t heard of anyone even offering him a thing yet.

Full story:

dodgereric ~ it seems they don’t know what they want or what they should do! Kind of like our team. I think taking a chance on Sheets wouldn’t be a bad idea. It sure gives me more hope than Estes and HuggyBear.

And how can I forget Mota?!!

Tell us you’re offering Sheets a contract Ned, or tell us the reason why!!!!!

Think of all the fun we could have with: Noodles, HuggyBear and Sheets!

I ran across this while trying to get to the Angels home page for team info. The Rangers are interested in Sheets also, depending on health.

Sheets was one of the topics brought up by fans to Daniels at Tuesday’s Town Hall meeting.

Can you imagine Frank and Ned holding a town hall meeting – Oh My Goodness!!!

I can actually imagine Frank holding a town hall meeting. It would be part of DodgerLIFE and it would only cost a person $1000 to be able to ask question to the newly named LA Power Couple…haha!

Shirley you can’t be serious unknowndodgerfan.

I am serious, bpb! Give him an offer or tell us the reason why. (or is it why NOT?) Do you see any other front-line starters available? I know he’s a DL vet, but I’m getting desperate. I’m almost in JP mode! Torn flexor tendon? Has he had surgery for it? Is it torn enough for surgery? Has it been recommended by competent doctors? Has Conte looked at……nevermind…..strike that. I just wanna know. I’m sick and tired of having guys like Wolf being presented as a #1 or #2 starter when we all know he’s a #5 at best.
……….and don’t call me Shirley…….. 🙂

Very good, clhuerth! LMAO, but probably true!

We’ve lost our #2 and we need a replacement!

Most of Ned’s acquisitions are #2s if you know what I mean.

A buffalo nickel to the first one to ID the movie:

Lionel Twain: I’m the greatest, I’m number one!
Sam Diamond: To me, you look like number two, know what I mean?
Dora Charleston: What DOES he mean, Miss Skeffington?
Tess Skeffington: I’ll tell you later. It’s disgusting.

I think that the real decision maker on these franchise issues is now Jamie, the prez AKA the MALIBU ITCH. That’s how I’m going to refer to her highness in the future. I think you can safely assume that I don’t like to type the asterisk, so MALIBU ITCH it is.

So, what does she think of Sheets, eh?

Murder By Death – YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m with you on that bear!!

And somebody call the paper bag company and order us a whole sh_tload of paper bags.

This coming spring Dodger Stadium EXPLODES!! Watch Juan for Four Pierre bring his nitro burning high octane offense to left field to battle the rest of the National League LIVE!!! NedCo – Where the fun never starts.™

Been pretty dull news from Dodgertown lately – thought we could use a little hype.

Great piece about Vin and Larsen’s perfect game in the Times and congrats to Vin for being named #1 Sportscaster of All Time by the American Sportscasters Association.

I’ll be following and commenting on Vin’s 60th season this year at and posting video interviews with ML baseball announcers at (where my DVD Ball Talk is also available).

Looking forward to the 2009 season!

brown ~ 6:00 – 6:05 should cover it! I’m telling you, we can make a fortune selling b.p.b.

All those #2’s = MALIBU ITCH

At least you will be carrying the paper ready to be signed for the autographs. Be careful, though, because if you hand over your pen while wearing the BPB, “You’ll poke your eye out, kid!”

Manny Watch– Slower than watching ink dry.

Hopefully, we will end this Manny Watch by watching Manny.

The Byrd is the word.
“He combined to go 11-12 with a 4.60 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 30 American League starts last season. Eight of those wins came after the All-Star break.”

So, why not skip the bad part and go straight to the gravy? Problem is– Does he need 1/2 of a season to get into shape? Or is it all about getting excited at the end of the season? Is Byrd in our future?

Hey, shep, good to see you. You are in great form today, too! lol

That article about Paul Byrd bothers me for a number of reasons but he may be on to something. It worked for Roger Clemons. Why play an entire season, especially the boring spring training part and the early part of the season when the weather is bad when you can come in mid-season and sell yourself to the highest bidder? I am sure the players already on the team won’t mind as long as the team benefits. Yes, the contract might be for less than what it might have been for a whole season but we all know the difference in pay will not affect the player’s lifestyle at all. Is Manny listening?

I am also bothered by Byrd’s comments regarding his desireability as a #2 guy on a smaller market team (meaning a team with no hope of contending) or a #5 guy on a contender. Is this what the game has come to with the so called lower tier teams picking up the crumbs left by the Yankees, Red Sox and Mets?

Byrd may start a new trend amongst older athletes – play half a season. The demand for guys like that is always up around the trade deadline, and what better way for contending clubs to add to their roster whilst giving up nothing in players or prospects. Its a win-win for the player and the contending club.

Meanwhile, the poor teams just get poorer. In fact, they ought to reform the leagues to the haves ($100 mil + payroll per season) and the have nots. The have nots can then make-up the new AAAA where a player can really hone his skills before moving up to a “have” team.

Oh wait. They already do that. – Nevermind.

Sounds like the National League West.

The opening line is exactly why you are brownpaperbag. Even the writers are making fun of Ned’s dealings.

This is why the paper bag stays on:

“Guillermo is a power arm that can stabilize the back of our bullpen,” Colletti said. “He’s had plenty of success in L.A. before and we look forward to seeing that again.”
With the Dodgers in 2003, Mota enjoyed a dominating campaign, going 6-3 with one save and a 1.97 ERA (23 ER/105.0 IP) in 76 games. Batters hit just .206 against him that season and Mota established career highs in wins, games, innings pitched, and strikeouts (99).

WITH THE THE DODGERS IN 2003… sounds like Torre talking. Yeah, that was only 6 years and a whole buttload of injections ago. You know back in ’27, Ruth hit 60HR but its highly doubtful HE’LL ever be able to do that again either.

Nelly, that article makes everything sound so simple. I really thought the Dodgers would sign Manny last week. I don’t know why I thought that but I just felt the timing was right. I am concerned about the level of Manny hero worship because it puts so much pressure on him to carry the team and anything less than what he did last season will seem like a failure. It also seems as if many want the Dodgers to pacify Manny with a high priced deal even if that deal makes little financial sense. I like the idea of making him an offer, give him a few days to ponder and counter offer and then if nothing can be worked out within a few days of that, move on.

I guess Coletti could have said something like,”I know we are reaching for anything out there that doesn’t cost very much and Mota was good for us once even though we traded him away so maybe we can get lucky and he will be good for us again and by the way did I mention he doesn’t cost us very much?”

Nelly ~ your article is great……….sounds as if B.P.B. or Unknowndodger wrote it!

LOL!!! enchanted- Oh! excuse me, brownpaperbag – six years seems like a long time ago……..hell, last year seems like a long time ago in this sport. A year ago, we thought Andruw would be able to hit the ball and look what happened.

lbirken – it seems very simple, but why our real GM doesn’t see it, who knows. Well, I guess we do know, don’t we?

trublue – dead on it sounded just like them

Why would the Dodgers sign a guy who is actually stupid enough to get caught doing steriods? Obviously, there are guys that have continued to do it, but G Mota was one of the very few who was actually idiotic enough to not figure out a way to get caught. I’m sure MENSA probably kicked him out of the club after that bonehead move.

Well, I have gotten a few text messages, and a few e-mails saying Mota is official. I know all of you are just as exciting as I am. I guess this doesn’t qualify as “good” Dodger news. I can’t even type that without thinking of brownpaperbag now.

BTW – dodgereric/Ward Dear……..where’s my Buffalo nickel? LOL (jk). The minute I saw the characters I knew who they were, and I pictured the scene and everything. That movie cracks me up!!!

According to Gurnick’s article, the Dodgers won’t bid Wolf away from the Mets, even though he’s their preference over Garland and Looper:

Oh BTW… “The Dodgers also have mild interest in Kris Benson, trying to come back from shoulder surgery.”

Remove bag from head and hurl into it.

LMAO!!!!!!! The one good sentence in that entire article was “The Dodgers will officially subract Andruw Jones from the roster on Thursday.” Is it possible to have a few “give backs” too (meaning our current acquisitions).

This line didn’t really make sense:

“The Dodgers’ payroll flexibility will help make it palatable for the club to set aside significant salary when Manny Ramirez is ready to accept it…”

I get the gist of what he’s trying to say(does Gurnick know something we don’t? – I doubt it), but for a professional writer, very its awkwardly phrased.

That sentence was stupid to say the least. At this point, aren’t you just ready to call Manny/Boras’ bluff? I think they should just get it over with, and if he doesn’t take it, move on………it can’t get much worse than it already is………well, maybe it can….

This year might be a double-bagger.

Getting late here – Nite Nells. Have a great day tomorrow!!

LMAO!!! you just might be right about that 🙂

Good Night brownpaperbag – maybe you will be able to come out of your bag tomorrow. Then again, probably not………take care and you have a great day yourself 🙂

Dang! Just missed good ol’ bpb! Good night buddy! Hope you don’t get carbon monoxide poisoning!

Good old rotoworld……
“It’s completely backwards that the flailing economy seems to be doing more of a number on the genuine talents in free agency than completely fungible players like Mota. Mediocre middle relievers and average utilitymen are still commanding $2 million per year for some reason. Mota had a 1.59 ERA after the break last season, but it was just 22 1/3 innings. The Brewers stopped trusting him early on and had no interest in bringing him back at even a fraction of the $3.2 million he made last season. In fact, of the five teams Mota has been with since the Dodgers traded him in 2004, none were at all fond of him by the end of his tenure.”

And there’s at least some owners talking salary cap now:

I guess the talk is better late than never.

Hi Junie! I guess so. It just might happen someday, just not in my lifetime. The players’ union is just way too strong right now. Something really big would have to happen, like several clubs going down. If it costs a bunch of big league slots, perhaps it’d change.

Have you checked your email lately?

I will now 🙂 LOL!!

okay…..sorry, I had to go ask my hubby a few questions 🙂

Descanse en paz senor Gomez! You were a class act!
Right on lbirkenn & clhuerth! I am not about to give up my season tickets on account of T.J.Simers. I might not agree with some of the signings but that does not stop me from being a fan of the Dodgers and the game of baseball. The word “fair weather fan” does not apply to this fan and I also resent T.J. as he is not much of a fan. T.J.: :whatever:
Ran into this lady at Union Station in L.A. We hugged when we saw each other and we started talking. she works at Dodger Stadium during the season but while I was talking with her I could not remember exactly where she works… I kept going over in my mind..ticket checker…food vendor…gift shop…Dodger embassador… Well, we said goodbye and that we will s ee each other at the Stadium soon and then after she left I remember that she is one of the people that works the elevator! I always saw her on top of this stool in the elevator so I did not realized how short she is.. haha I gave her an update on who has left who is in. She asked me about Nomar several times so she likes him. I told her I also like him as he always always gave credit to his teamates during post game interviews.
I have not been around much as this is the busiest time for me. lucky for me is during Winter season. Although I do not post much I do read a few times a day. Good night!

Good Morning, dodgereric. ~ after reading that article, all I can say is, “uh-oh”!

Mornin’ Tru!

Yep. I hope our guys avoid it. Hard feelings result from it sometimes. It’s the nature of the beast.

Since Franks keeps saying that he is keeping his young core together, they should be signed with no problem. However, I don’t trust much of what the Dodger organization has been saying. Their actions are speaking louder than words.

Good morning all it was a balmy 28 in Dallas this morning…This is going to be a great day…Andruw is going to be officially cut today…Hats off to McCourt on this, and he should have his foot up Neds **** for the original signing. But to actually cut him loose, I did not think he had the kahunas, now the Pierre watch begins…

That is all the praising of the front office I can do…Neds bad signings have to have Frank gun shy!!!

What are the odds Ned is back after this year, with his contract running out….I say less than 25%, unless some miracle happens and the Dodgers win the WS…Why couldnt Frank do a package deal with Andruw and Ned….Promote Logan White or Kim Ng…..

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!

Ward Dear…….I haven’t read the entire article, but all I have to say is …….let’s hope all goes well with our guys.

Ramslover ~ all I can add to that is, ADIOS, ANDRUW!!!

All I have to say is – I went on my weather site after ramslover told us the temp in Dallas.

The high near my mom’s old family farm in North Dakota will be -18 today. They could walk into their freezers to warm up. The temperature of your freezer at home should be right at zero (fahrenheit).

that is cold DEric….wow 28 feels like summer now….only 30 days to spring training…

Now that Lowe has signed with the Braves where will be picking with that pick….does anyone know?

Management seems to like Randy Wolf, Jon Garland or Braden Looper………with Wolf the #1 choice. Does that give you confidence?

It gives me confidence that brownpaperbag and I are going to be around for a while………….

Thought so! lol

I’m just popping in to say hi… Kris Benson pitched last year for the Clearwater Threshers, then was promoted to AAA and gave up 85 hits in 60 innings for none other than… the Lehigh Valley IronPigs! I can’t make this stuff up.

But on the other hand, he was almost a decent pitcher back in 2000. Sounds like he’s ready for us!

Why not sign Robbie Benson?

Better double the order of bags. We’re gonna need some to barf in too.

BTW, if you’re gonna sign Scott Proctor (Mota), why not just re-sign Scott Proctor? He’d have cost 1/3 as much.

Why is it Frank by Proxy (Ned) always gives more money than he needs to to washed up pieces of crap, but won’t pay good players a proper wage?

That’s just Frank being Frank! I’ve already doubled the order for the brown paper bags!

In the real world, a US Airbus has crashed into New York’s Hudson River. They’re talking to someone who was on the plane and it sounds like everyone got out OK!

……correction – US Airways………..

Just googled to me ~ The Padres have signed IF David Eckstein, a former World Series MVP, to a one-year contract.

Hello Dodgerfaithful and brownpaperbag,

Works for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good to see ya Nelly 🙂

I’d like Manny eating Noodles on the Sheets! lol
Great video, dodgereric. I always wanted to soar like that in my younger days.

Manny things are getting pretty serious in my neck of the woods, although I am fine. My friends and neighbors are really starting to struggle. Yesterday one lady retrieved a 68 year old homeless man in hopes they could help each others situation out. I was humbleed somewhat after spending some time chatting with the gentleman.
I want you to be a Dodger and am hoping that is the case.
But you and Boras have small problems to deal with so please make a decision. To the McCourts I am happy you are considered the power coulpe of LA, but seriously….

I am wishing everybody well,
God Bless and God Speed 🙂
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did have Manny hopes for the coming season. Actually for Manny years to come. It is fun having Manny moments to enjoy. And, afterall, I don’t know what to do with my Manny shirts. And all those fans with Manny dreadlocks, what are they to do?

I have an uncanny granny nanny Annie with a big fanny who looks in every nook and cranny for Manny.
She’s Pakistani.

Ned, see what your procrastination is doing?

Thanks, unknowndodgerfan. I’m looking forward to Manny more!

I used to have dreams of winning Manny, Manny championships……..perhaps Manny World Series’. Who knows, maybe my Manny hopes and dreams will come true.

just sign manny and at least i can stomach all this better..otherwise when u add up furcal (coming off the back surgery), blake (36 and average), mota, vargas..its’ just as bad as any of neds gem offseasons.

not even counting the downgrade from Lowe to whoever is left. (unless its sheets, at least he has upside)

unknowndodgerfan – I bet your name’s Danny.

Seriously. We’ve scraped the bottom of the barrel before, but this is embarrasing.

Good afternoon ITD boys and girls!
Again, like I said before, whoopee frickin doo. We signed Guillermo Mota. Again, whoopee frickin doo.

So how are my ITD friends??? 🙂

Scott from Arcadia asked earlier if brownpaperbag is the same as enchanted (it’s good to see you. And yes, it’s rolls off the tongue easier than iwastherein88!!!) Yes,, I know that Enchanted and brownpaperbag are one and the same, but I need to ask something else. Enchanted/brownpaperbag – forgive me for sounding ignorant, but aren’t you also theunknowndodgerfan??? 🙂

I’d tell you, brownpaperbag, but then I wouldn’t be unknown anymore…..

Jungar ~ you mean the opposing teams won’t be shaking in their cleats when they face our pitching roation? lol

unknowndodgerfan is not I CP.

Okay enchanted/brownpaperbag. I was thinking you were unknowndodgerfan, but I guess not.

To the real unknowndodgerfan, please forgive me. Sometimes I can be a bit on the slow side (okay, okay, stop saying sometimes…)

CP ~ At least I wasn’t the only one confused by that. I thought I knew, but then I didn’t know, and then I thought I knew again, and then I just gave up. Now, I am back to I think I know, but still not sure.

So, how are you?

Cp ~ I’m sure you will figure it out. I have confidence in you.

Nelly – You were confused too??? At least I’m not the only one.Now I must go EARN Tru’s confidence in me and go and figure it out!!! I’ll be back!!! 🙂

Oh, and btw Nelly, I’m fine. I had my first physical therapy appointment yesterday morning on my shoulder. Boy, do I have a frozen shoulder!!! He was able to relax my shoulder and show me other exercises that I can do to help it. It’s just a matter of doing them – one of which REALLY HURTS!!!

Ya know, I still want to say that enchanted/brownpaperbag is also unknowndodgerfan. But, I don’t know. Unknowndodgerfan’s posts from the previous thread sound familiar, but I still keep on wanting to say enchanted/brownpaperbag!!! 🙂

Well, I’ve gotta go. I know I wasn’t here for long; perhaps sometime later tonight. See y’all later…

It’s official, according to Yahoo Sports……….Andruw Jones was released by the Dodgers.

Worst excuse of a ballplayer I’ve ever seen don a uniform.

Good riddance.

$12M per HR and $47M for 1 win.
Can Ned pick ’em or what?

He certainly as the knack, dosen’t he?!

Did you read on the homepage that they are grooming Troncoso for SP?

BTW – Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!! I hope you all had a fantastic day!!

It looks like we are getting closer to seeing how Frank and Ned really feel about the future of our young guns. Arbitration for Martin, Ethier, Broxton and Repko begins Tuesday

This first one is just Dodgers and Angels. The second is a list of all players entering into arbitration.

I’m confused why you would take an effective reliever like Troncoso who hasn’t the stamina or arm strength and turn him into a starter, then take someone you’ve groomed to be a starter (McDonald) and turn him into a reliever.

Typical bassackwards approach we’ve come to expect from NedCo.

I guess this means the bag stays on 🙂

….and the beat goes on. Nary even a rumor of Dodger activity. Makes you wonder what is going on with our clueless leaders. Is Ned passed out, dead drunk, in an alley somewhere? Are Frank and Jamie incommunicado on a photo shoot for Better Homes and Gardens? With each passing day with no significant signings, pessimism grows… With Smoltz leaving town, the Braves must’ve felt the pressure to sign Lowe. The Mets were only going to go as high as 40 mil. Borass played the waiting game to perfection and got exactly what he wanted. Up til now, Lowe has had no significant injury history and he will be 40 at the end of this deal. The law of averages may catch up witn DLowe.

Red pen….”with”.

I think that’s safe to assume Nells.

Hey Sky!

I’m figuring if that had happened to Ned, we may be in a better place right now than having Vargas, Huggie Bear and Mota to look forward too. I am guessing you are probably right about Jamie and Frank, but Better Homes and Gardens may not be elite enough for them.

For a brownpaperbag you sure are funny – LMAO!!!!!!!

I’m gonna laugh my *** off when the Yankees or Giants swoop in at the last second to grab Manny, leaving Ned and Frank with egg on their face – again.

You’ll be able to tell its me even though I’ll still have the bag over my head. I’ll be the one with no ***.

• ‘Baseball heaven’ nears completion

(That’s because the prices will kill ya.)

…about the Baseball Heaven… the premeire games are $2-$5 more because………

Is this heaven?,,,,,No, its Iowa!!!!!

Seems more like NedCo hell.

For Dodger fans, the Hot Stove League has become Ned’s Inferno!!!!!

…the bottomless pit where the bottom doesn’t seem to exist.

The bottom is the end of the 2009 NL schedule.

There’s gotta be a disco song in there somewhere seesky.
Squirm baby squirm
NedCo’s Inferno

“I Love the 70’s” – ITD style

You’re on to something there, bpb. “squirm, vinny, squirm”.

Well, maybe if I have some time tomorrow…

Yeah, it’s getting late. Good night, all. Maybe we’ll get some good news tomorrow. Maybe I’ll win the lottery, too.

G’nite Sky!

Good Night Seesky!!

What do you mean win the lotto? I win everyday according to the e-mails I get each morning.

Uh oh. Another disco parody just popped into my head…

I am sure you will come up with several in the next few minutes/hours/days knowing a little about how your mind works 🙂

Frightening isn’t it??!!

LMAO!!!!!!!! Yes, I would have to say it is 🙂

Well, time for me to put on my beddy-bye brown paper bag (it the one with no eye-holes) and hit the sack. Nite Nells and to all you wonderful readers out there in the dark.

Good Night brownpaperbag……….take care and maybe there will be some good news tomorrow……I know, who am I kidding 🙂

Good Morning ITDland ~ I see, from the L.A. Times, where Frank had a private meeting with Russell Martin at Camelback Ranch. Apparently there was no discussion of a contract, although a one year deal would probably be offered. Give me a break! If 1-year deals are what they will offer to our young core………..they will be Dodgers no more! Where the heck is a sense of security? A belief that they are wanted in LA? What the heck has happened to our once proud franchise?

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!

So, a one-year deal huh? Well, that speaks volumes about how Frank and Ned think feel about our young gun dynasty. I guess this means brownpaperbag will be brownpaperbag for a long, long time, perhaps never to see enchantedsunset again.

You are right, Nelly. Poor enchantedsunset may be lost forever! Please Frank, don’t let this happen. We need our enchanted back! Unknowndodgerfan may be all of us if things don’t change.

Martin is up for arbitration. That means a one-year deal. They are exploring a multi-year deal beyond that. But he, Ethier, Broxton and Repko need contracts, as all are arbitration eligible. Now everyone, please, take a deep breath…and now exhale. Most of you create more hysteria than necessary.

The REAL cause for celebration is “bye, bye, Mr. Ate-Too-Much-Pie.” Andruw…good luck, swim safely, eat a peach.

Kpookie ~ sorry for the hysteria……I’m trying to be confident that things will make us happy. I, for one, just like to blow off steam. If I do it here, it makes me more pleasant at home, and my husband doesn’t have to suffer. lol I am thrilled that we got rid of Andruw. I do love the Dodgers and always will.

I just don’t know why management doesn’t avoid arbitration and just sign these players.

trublue, as long as your husband doesn’t have to suffer, I applaud the hysteria! Seriously though, there has been SO MUCH negative blogging lately, aimed at Frank and Ned. True, they’ve brought a ton of it on themselves for past idiocy, but until Spring Training arrives I, for one, will reserve judgment. But if Manny’s a Gnat or a Yankee and Ramon Troncoso is the Dodgers’ fifth starter, THEN you’ll hear me SCREAM!!!!

The short answer, trublue, is they don’t HAVE to sign them to long-term contracts right now.

You are probably right, kpookie, about the negative blogs about Frank and Ned. But, I am getting a little nervous with ST just around the corner and we are signing Mota and Estes. I understand that talks with Manny are ongoing but, if we do lose him to the Giants or the Yankee sneak in at the last minute and sign him, I will not be a happy Dodger fan.

Russ, I hope it felt like a million dollar lunch to eat with the Power A-Holes, because you’ll pay heavily for it once the one-year contract offer comes in. If this same management remains in charge, you can be assured that all of our young guys will depart elsewhere as soon as they are qualified FA’s.

SELL THE FRANCHISE, you Power A-H’s!!!

…breathing into a brownpaperbag – LOL!!!

Just breathing?!!!!!!!!! lol

A little 70’s disco. The Miracles – Love Machine (sorry, couldn’t find the original version):

Building up a winner you’re just slow
Have the balls, admit that you don’t know (Oooooh)

Over PVLs you drool
Steroid boys make us the fools
All the other guys resemble stoo-ooooooooool
