On a night like tonight, what more can be said?
On behalf of the entire organization — Thank you, Dodger fans, for a great year…
This was truly a great year, best one in 20 years.
Thank you Josh, for giving us an opportunity to express our feeling in writing.
I know i never comment on ITD. But i want to say i came here to vent after every Dodger tough loss, or to read the excitement of other fans in the exciting wins. I knew that when i came on here someone else was there feeling my pain or sharing my joy. This was a great year and unfortunately it came to an end. This is a little something i told my friends, who were bummed after the loss. “I just want to thank God for taking us this far, I want to thank God for giving us this excitement, I want to thank God for showing us that it can happen, but most importantly i want to thank God for giving me the pride and honor to bleed Dodger blue” We were down but never out! THINK BLUE today, tomorrow and FOREVER!!!
Thank YOU for always keeping us up to date! and of course THANK the boys in blue for a GREAT season!!
I like Dewitt but he’s just a freaking rookie. I think Kent should had started this whole series. We need more power in the lineup and Kent could protect Manny. I can’t believe Torre did leave Loney cleaning up like he did before.
Sooooooo Sad. I can’t believe it didn’t go our way. I had faith until the last out, but it felt like our boys did not. I am thankful for some wonderful games this year and upset by some bad plays, lineup’s and the wasted money on players who did nothing for us. Anyway, I hope we make the right choices next year and keep the boys who deserve to be here. Andre, Manny, Russell, and a few others. I have waited 20 years for a series and it was in our grasp- so close yet so far. I really feel we lost to an inferior team who just got lucky, everything went their way, i hope they get their butt’s kicked in the World Series. I bleed blue always will. Until next year my friends.
I knew when Howard gotten hot is was over. He finished this series batting .300.
Ethier and Martin 7 for 39 with 1 rbi’s. That’s is totally unacceptable.
Thank for a good season Dodgers and btw RIP Chris Neil.
Thank You Josh. Well done!!! Appreciate your efforts and patience. We are truely grateful. We’ll get’em next year.
Many thanks to you and the team for an amazing season… I think we all had a blast and could you also pass along our thanks from us fans to the players for sharing so much of this season with us. I will never forget the post game festivities from the NL West win, nor the win over the cubs… it was infectious, joyful, and the main reason I love baseball.
Cheers!
🙂

JOSH THANK YOU – You have done a great job with this blog…hey we are #2, but next year we WILL BE #1. Thanks for answering all our questions. Please keep us updated thought out the off season on Dodgers news. We will still be here and be ready for next year. GO DODGERS AND THANKS FOR A GREAT SEASON!
Shad – GIVE IT A REST!!!!!! THEY DID WONDERFUL!!! LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!! The season is over, and they did more than we ever thought they could.
I think our lineup was flawed. Not because of the players but because of the order. Manny should have batted clean up. As much as i Love Russ he should have been in the clean up spot. I think it’s a spot that takes him out of his game and he tries to hit the ball too hard sometimes. I think Furcal, Martin, Ethier, Manny should have been the top 4 with Loney batting 5th. That gives us a great balance in the top of the order then L-R-L-R-L order would be nice to run out against other teams.
LOL Nelly!!! <f|:(
Josh ~ I want to thank you so much for letting us have this forum. I am sure we frustrated you, and I am also sure we made you laugh. It was a pleasure to be a part of this board, and I am sure most of us will be part of it for years to come, God willing.
It was a fabulous season, and please tell all the Dodgers, they did a fantastic job,and we are very proud to be their fans.
Debbie ~
Thankyou Josh and the entire Dodger organization for a wonderful fun filled season. GO DODGERS!!!!!
Bob=Dodger4life
sorry Ward Dear, Wally and Beav – June Darlin’ just couldn’t resist…… it’s the chemical makeup I am afraid.
Thanks Josh for all of your work on this blog!!
*****JOSH*****
I want to thank you as well. I know we can get a little rough on the guys in here sometimes, but it’s all coming from the right place – our love for this team. Thank you for your hard work, and thanks for putting up with us. Pass along to the players that the best damned Dodger fans reside here on ITD!!!
Yep Josh, please let the players know we are very proud of them.
Torre **** up but change the lineup I knew putting Pierre in there was going to mess up chemistry.
I know Torre want Manny to get more AB’s but Manny belong in that clean up spot and screw the l, r, l, r combo.
Sic’em Nell’!!!
Overall this was easily my favorite year as a Dodger fan. I think we’ve all enjoyed watching our kids bloom. We all got a chance to witness arguably one of the greatest stretches of play in baseball history with Manny. The last time anyone came close to doing what Manny did was before almost all of us we’re born. Hell even before some of our parents were born. We didn’t get as far as we liked but we got further then 26 other teams and thats something to be proud of. I may not have shown it over the course of the season but I was proud to be a Dodger fan this year.
Josh, thanks keeping this blog going. It’s hard to do and you do a great job at it. As for everyone in the organization (yes even NED AND JOE!) thank you for a great season and hopefully an even better one next year.
McCourt said Ned is coming back for next year. Tonight is the start of my worries. Hopefully all the Kids are back next year. Hopefully all of us are back as well. adios!
Reposted from the end of the last thread….
You still got it, e!! Awesome!! But didn’t Kent get a ring with the Blue Jays?
If that team had any pitching, jhall, they would have won 140 games.
By dodgereric on October 15, 2008 10:57 PM
Good job Beav!!
Easily Dad!!!
By jhallwally on October 15, 2008 10:58 PM
Wally, 1 thru 8, that was just about a perfect team. Offense and defense. Clutch hitting, speed. Power, average….Man.
Max – It was great being a Dodger Fan with you. Keep that Ethier shirt close by. You will need it for next year.
I thought that’s why Kent kept coming back – because he was chasing the ring before he retired. But then I moved to Casablanca for the waters – I was misinformed.
For sure Dad!!! I was very fortunate to get to see them and the 70’s Dodgers compete. It was awesome.
I just can’t wait until I see the next 2 prospect that’s getting traded to the SD for Maddux.
Kent has a ring with Toronto when he was traded just liek Nomar got one with Boston.
oops like
It looks like Kent moved to the Mets at the trading deadline and missed the Series win with Toronto. I wonder if they gave him a ring? He probably got a share, he was with the Jays for 102 games.
Josh, thanks for all your hard work on the blog. The Dodgers have nothing to be ashamed of. They had a great season. Hopefully, our talented young core will be kept together. Let the entire team know how proud all the fans are of them.
I’d still take Pete Rose on my team any day. He is the reason the Phillies finally won a championship. Between the lines, he was a winner.
LMAO!!!!!!
Beav – where’s is the Cuervo again? June Darlin’ needs some NOW!!!!!! LMAO!!!!
You go girl!!!!
edit] New York Mets and trade to Indians
Kent was traded on August 29 to the New York Mets along with a player to be named later (Ryan Thompson) for David Cone. It was a deal decried by both Toronto and New York fans. Many Toronto fans felt the club was compromising their future and that Kent had earned the starting job at third base; many New York fans could not bear to see the fan-favorite Cone let go. Kent would later receive a World Series ring from the Blue Jays.
Kent’s time with the Mets was marked with some success and some failure. Although he batted well, particularly for a second baseman, the Mets were among the worst teams in the National League. Furthermore, he acquired a very poor reputation in the clubhouse, where he was known for a quick temper and isolationism. During the 1992 season, he started the only game of his career at shortstop in order to allow Willie Randolph to play his final career game at second base. While in New York, Kent was pejoratively dubbed “Jeff Can’t.”
In a deal made prior to the 1996 trade deadline, the Mets infamously sent Kent and Jose Vizcaino to the Cleveland Indians for Álvaro Espinoza and Carlos Baerga The following offseason, Kent was again traded, this time to the San Francisco Giants. The San Francisco trade was initially very unpopular, as it sent Matt Williams, a longtime Giant and a fan-favorite, to the Indians. Brian Sabean, in his first year as general manager of the Giants, was so widely criticized for the move that he famously defended himself to the media by saying, “I am not an idiot.”
OK Nelly (June Darlin’ keep an eye on those boys), Wally (get back to your doll..I mean Date), Enchanted (keep working on song#99 and #100), and the rest of the ITD pips my lights are turning off…sorry I couldn’t stay up late late, but maybe next time. I need my beauty sleep…and believe me I need a lot of it…LOL….hahaha Good night, Bon Soir (I think this is how you say it), Buenas noches!
Spit – the Maddux deal is done: Michael Watt and Eduardo Perez
So then Jeff’s never PLAYED in a WS.
Thanks nelly! And to whomever else I befriended on here or to everyone that put up with my crap thanks. It was a long bumpy ride but we all survived together and thats all that matters. Its a lot easier to make it through a season with others and I think we all helped each other get through this long season.
Goodnight Rule!!!
Good Night Rose!!!!! Happy Dodger Dreams!!!! Our boys had a fabulous season.
I can’t seem to find my red pen anywhere. I have lots and lots of mistakes to correct and can’t find my big red pen anywhere.
At least DeJesus and Lambo wasn’t taking but I don’t know about Watt.
OK, so Jeff Never WON a WS. He played with the Gints and got a defacto ring from Toronto.
Well said Max!!!
Gettin’ late, or early here. Gonna hit the old rack. It’s been a heck of a year gang. Looking forward to chatting with you all this winter. Good job Dodgers!!! I am very proud of you. Maybe Josh can get some of them to come on here sometime.
jhall, I’ve always felt that Pete should be in the Hall. His plaque should end with the sentence, “He was banned indefinitely for gambling on baseball as a manager.”
Night RoseRule!!!
Totally agree Dad. Thanks!!!!
Good Night Wally!!!! Go to bed now while the moonlight isn’t so bad because it looks like it’s about to become a full moon very, very soon. LMAO!!! Your father and I tend to go blind the moonlight is so bright some times.
Amazing the D’s competed against the Big Red Machine and usually gave as good as they got, considering that our only HOFer was Sutton.
Night Wally !!!
Good night Max! You didn’t have THAT much crap!!! No more than the average around here, anyway.
You’re eventually going to get it, e!!! LOL!!
Goodnight jhall!! The off season is going to be very interesting to say the least!
June Darlin’, pour yourself a brandy!! LOL!!!
Then why the hell didn’t he retire a couple years ago and save me the grief???
Goodnight Nelly. LOL!!! Give my regards to Trumom.
Dodgers held their own very well against the BRM. It was probably the best baseball I have ever seen live. We used to go to scheduled Friday night doubleheaders at Riverfront between them. Wow!!!!
That’s true Beav, and for a HOF player, Sutton is pretty weak at that.
LMAO!!!! It’s like watching a car crash, you just have to stop and look to see what happened. I try to drive by, but it just doesn’t happen. I can’t find the Brandy. Wally!!!!!!
That must have been a blast jhall!!!!! Wow!!! is right!!!
It was amazing Nell’. Thanks everyone and again, goodnight and I hope you all have a super tomorrow.
Excelsior True Blue Believers!!!!!!
I for one will be rooting for the TB Devil Dodgers. At least I can root on the other half of our young guns.
JHall do you remember Jimmy the cannon Wynn?
The Devil Dodgers are going to be a tough group for anybody to beat. I was worried about having to play them if we got there.
Yep VL, very well. He was a darn good player.
Good fielder and clutch hitter.
Remember the dead arm game. Who did Ferguson throw out at home?
Hey Josh,
Than YOU for a great year! As you know very well, this has been a great year to be a Dodger fan, and a great year to start a Dodger blog and become part of the extended Dodger family. You do a fantastic job keeping all of us informed, educated, updated and just generally keep us “in the know” with the inner-working of the Dodgers.
On behalf of all of the readers and posters on ITD, thank you! Keep up the great work, and I’ll see you in Spring Training!
Chris
http://www.dodgerfan.net
Sal Bando. I was there.
Well, I see by the ol’ clock on the wall that its still there, so I’m out. Keep up the faith people! The offseason this year shapes up to be as wild a ride as this season was.
To all those that I both agreed and disagreed with, thank you for the banter and fun – hope to meet up with you again so we can do it one more time.
Right on, thanks couldn’t remember. The 70’s were fun.
They sure were, Dodger4. It’s too bad we couldn’t have won one or two of the Series that we were in. We had some pretty good clubs though!
Good night, enchanted! It’s been an honor to prattle on with you!
Those boys were my idols as a kid. It was heartbreaking to not win the fall classic. I can imagine how all the youngsters feel tonight.
Good late evening ITD boys and girls,
Well, yeah, it’s over for 2008. But boy, what a ride it was! Yeah, we all know of the ups and downs during the year, but by and large, I think our boys in blue did a great job. Like I mentioned before, I am so proud of our boys, as I know everyone is! I still can’t forget about Fox talking about Cole Hamels and how he is vastly improved from the Cole Hamels that pitched against the Rox in 2007 in the NLCS. I still believe that our boys will learn from this experience and that will make them that much tougher next year. Of course the big question is of all of our free agents, who do we part ways with (Sweeney???) and who do we resign (Manny???) And I’m not mentioning any trades; we MUST keep the youth movement going!!! Only time will tell. What comes of that will go a long way to molding our Young Gun Dynasty into a WS Champion!!!
Oh and Josh, thanks for doing a terrific job in running this blog!!! You did a great job!!! I know that things can get hectic around here and I know we were challenging, but you did a great job!!! Thanks!!!
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!
I want to wake up and read that the Dodgers signed Manny.
—
“We wanted to get it done ASAP and send a message to the rest of the NL that the Dodgers are for real and here to stay”, said Owner Frank McCourt.
—
Thanks Josh.
Good Night all.
We should been up 3-2 in this series. Thank alot Manny for not hustling to 3rd in case that ball wasn’t going out and costing us a run and Furcal costing us a run. We would had won that game 3-2 and still no excuses what happen in game 4?
I got kicked off my computer – 🙂
enchanted – good night, and it has been one hell of a ride this season with you and the boys. I am honored to be a part of it. It’s been great getting to know you and that wonderful sense of humor you have, along with all your talent for just plain laughter, whether it is through a song or just being “you” in all your different roles. See you tomorrow.
Ward Dear… Good night and God Bless to you and yours. It is great to be part of Dodgereric’s world. I have learned so much this season from you and the boys about the Dodgers and baseball, but you have made it come to life, not only in June Darlin’s world, but in Mrs. Nelson’s world as well. For somebody that these first graders have never seen or met, they sure do think the world of you, and yes, I have given them the resource to enjoy baseball as a part of life, but you have encouraged that love of it. Good Night, and I will see you in the morning.
jungar – since the day I started reading this blog, you have been a staple of one of the greats when it comes to ITD. It’s like an ITD day hasn’t been complete without even the slightest dose of jungar, and there have been days where you haven’t said much, but that one sentence or symbol/sign says it all to when it comes to how you are thinking, and I have really come to appreciate it and look forward to it everyday.
Hey Nelly did you guys really need to signed Shaun Alexander? What do this do with Portis and Betts?
Josh!!
Thanks for putting up with us and for keeping us informed. So you did make the Tommy Lasorda party at the stadium? I did not see you there. I saw Nancy Bea and husband, Orel, Luchy Guerra, Rick Monday, Charlie Steiner, Psycho Lyons, John Soohoo, Ralph, of course Tommy Lasorda, Dr. Steinberg, Kenny Landreaux, Pepe Iniguez, Tim with the photographers that are making the Dodger documentary, Tony Kinkade, Dodger embasadors, Dodger photo takers, and other Dodger workers. It made me feel better having a chance to say goodbye to everyone of these people and a few others and thanking them for their work and contributions to a great season.
.
I also took a thank you card to Jeff Kent and a gift bag with a Old Guys rule t-shirt. I did not see him but I gave it to Maury Wills and he gave it to probably one of the bat boys. I wanted to thank him for always giving it his all on the field and for hosting the WIN baseball clinics for the last 4 years.
.
I Love the Dodgers and can’t wait for another season to start, in the meantime let the Hot Stove season begin!!!! -Emma (crzblue)
.
Ethier got a new thread up.
Josh, remember this?:
————-
First Day of Workouts – Josh Rawitch
If the sight of Eric Gagne on the mound doesn’t excite Dodger fans, I’m not sure what will. Eric threw a bullpen session today, as did several other Dodgers, including Danys Baez and Derek Lowe. Also on the mound were some of the prospects you’ve all been hearing a lot about like Chad Billingsley and Justin Orenduff. No one is going full speed just yet, but the pop of the catcher’s mitt was a great sound here at Dodgertown. Hundreds of fans were gathered around the “old strings” area, where Dodger greats like Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Fernando Valenzuela and Orel Hershiser used to throw their ‘pens, too.
Nomar Garciaparra also worked out at first base, which was great to see. As you might have read in the L.A. Times, he came down to Dodger Stadium earlier this month to work out with Eddie Murray and get a jump on Spring Training. That really impressed a lot of people around here – just the fact that he wanted to see what it was like to play the position at Dodger Stadium, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to simulate game action at Chavez Ravine while he was at Dodgertown. In the photo, he and Grady Little got a chance to catch up out on one of the fields here after the drills were done.
A couple more guys arrived here today, including new shortstop Rafael Furcal. Not surprisingly, he was a little lost when I ran into him trying to find the clubhouse, as he’d never been here before as a member of the Dodgers. I was able to give him a ride on the golf cart and he got a chance to meet his new teammates and take his physical, which all players do upon their arrival.
As for the blog, the comments have been great so far, so keep them coming. We’ve had some good suggestions already and will continue to stay on top of your requests as best we can.

That was the day I discovered this blog (I missed Mark Langill’s post the day earlier). 2 years and 7 months to the day later, we’ve all come a long way. Season didn’t end the way I would’ve liked, but it ended much better than I thought it would.
Thanks for continuing to keep us up-to-date on all things Dodgers… ITD’s getting a lot more than 3 comments a post these days 🙂 Thanks for a great season.
It was disappointing last night the way the game unraveled and the season had to end on that note, but you’ve got to tip your hat to the Phillies, a better team than their phans deserve.
The Dodgers did take a couple of steps forward this season, won the division and beat the Cubs, and that counts for a lot.
Our young players have matured in their approach to the game and the team has gained play off experience.
I get attached to these guys and I’d like to see this entire bunch back in the spring to try it again. That of course will not happen and we’ve probably seen the last of Ramirez.
O well.
It’s been fun. It will be more fun to see what the winter brings.
AND THANK YOU, JOSH!!!
This season was certainly exciting with it’s ups and downs. We came close. Now for next year. Who’s coming back?
.
The most notable free agent is Ramirez, presumably looking for a four-year, $100 million contract, even though he turns 37 in May.
.
Also eligible are pitchers Derek Lowe, Greg Maddux, Joe Beimel, Chan Ho Park and Jason Johnson; and infielders Rafael Furcal, Jeff Kent, Casey Blake, Pablo Ozuna, Nomar Garciaparra and Mark Sweeney.
.
Colletti said he wants Furcal to return, although the shortstop has been injured two of his three seasons with the Dodgers and durability will factor into the decision.
“I want to come back,” Furcal said.
.
Lowe is likely to leave. Kent, Maddux and Garciaparra are candidates for retirement, although none made any announcement after the game.
.
I would like to see Derek Lowe, Joe Beimel, casey Blake and Rafael Furcal signed before becoming free agents along with Manny.
.
Jeff, Nomar, Mark S, Chan Ho, Greg M, Jason J, can all hit the road. We don’t need them. Trade Andruw and Pierre and get C.C. and we will be set for next year.
Good morning ~ after reading all of your comments all I can say is this, for me, has been one heck of a season. I do agree with most of you in the hopes of keeping our “young guns” together. I think this off-season will tell us just what kind of owner Frank is.
As little as two months ago, most of us would not have believed that our Dodgers would get into the playoffs, much less go as far as we did. It has been an exciting, a frustrating, and often a maddening season. It’s been all the more enjoyable for having this forum to vent, speculate, argue and commiserate, and for that I too want to thank Josh, but even more all of you ITD participants for sharing your views, your cheers and your tears.
I think this was largely a season of coming of age for a number of our younger players. I disagreed with the way Torre handled some of them during the year, but he did it in his own style, and with some of them it paid off. I tend to give more credit to the players in the way they adapted than to Torre’s style, but it’s the end result that counts. I thought that Andre, Loney, and Bills definitely took that step forward to becoming real stars of the team. Many of you will disagree, but Martin and Kemp were a disappointment to me. I think that Martin regressed, especially in his defense and throwing ability, and Kemp did not show his power nearly as much as we expected. I certainly wouldn’t replace or trade either one of them, so let’s hope for better 2009.
The big questions for 2009?
I don’t think we’ll re-sign Manny. If he’s really looking for a five year deal, I think that’s two years too many – I’d do a three year $75 million, but that’s my limit, and there will be teams particularly in the AL that will likely go higher. I don’t think we’ll get Sabathia, because the price will be too high as well. We’ll probably get Sheets, and I’m OK with that. I wouldn’t offer more than two years for Lowe, because he’s been essentially a .500 pitcher for us in his prime. If we have to pay Penny $2 million to release him as compared to $9 million to excercise his option for next year, I’d take the chance and keep him, provided someone other than Conte evaluates his physical condition to make that decision.
Obviously Torre is here to stay for another year or two. Much against my will, Ned will probably stay as well at least to the end of his contract, which I believe ends with 2009. Even with Kent and Nomar dropping off the roster, we’ll still be stuck with a big contract for Andruw and with Pierre a fixture, so Frank is unlikely to spend freely in the marketplace. Minus Manny and no big additions, that leaves next year much in doubt – the same as we started this season. Pitching could make all the difference. It will be another year of all kinds of mixed emotions among the ITD fans, and I thank you all for being here, and have a great off-season in all your personal lives.
To all the ITD’s:
Thanks for making this year fun! We’ll soon be discussing the 2009 team in detail – including a new GM ( I wish! )
AND…Thank you Josh for your constant updates!
We should been up 3-2 in this series. Thank alot Manny for not hustling to 3rd in case that ball wasn’t going out and costing us a run and Furcal costing us a run. We would had won that game 3-2 and still no excuses what happen in game 4?

********************************************
Who is this spit111 dueche bag?? We had a great season, and amongst 13 other retarded posts he decides to take a run on the player who got us here? Will someone please redirect him to the porn he was watching all season and stay the hell off this blog?
Good morning ITD!!! Sad night last night, but overall, a successful season. Very exciting. I guess the first order of business is what to do with Penny. Do we pick up his option or buy him out? Sure hope we can keep Manny!!!
To Eric and Enchanted who were talking about the 70’s:
I just watched that Ferguson throw again yesterday as I was reminiscing about the good ol’ days! A completely unbelievable throw by Fergie!
I used to love Lopes getting a leadoff walk in the 1st inning and taking those huge leads where he HAD to dive back every time until he eventually wore the pitcher out and stole 2nd!
The best of times!
Bear,
I agree with you. I know that D.Lowe does not want to sign with the Dodgers.
I’d like to see them try to work out a 1 or 2 year incentive laden deal with Ferk. I would also explore the possibility of keeping Maddux as the 5th starter. He would have a huge impact on Billz, Kersh, and Mac!!!
me too, and good morning jhall!!!
messagebear – glad to see you here. We were wondering when you were going to make and appearance, and looking forward to what you have to say.
nsblues – great post from you as well. ITD has come a long way since then.
trublue – good morning, and I passed on the message from last night.
edwcarter – thank you 🙂
Scott – good morning to you too 🙂
Good morning Nell’!! We missed you last night Trumom!!
Penny scares me. I think he is a shoulder surgery waiting to happen. Does anyone think Schidt will contribute anything next year?
Eric, E and Scott,
I remember that throw from Fergie! That also reminded me of a game when Fergie was going to get an intentional walk and he reached out and hit HR. Good times!
Gonna be hard to keep Manny. Speculation is that both New York teams will be very interested and throwing huge money at him.
Mornin’ all!
I say buy Penny out. Sign Furcal, Manny (within reason?), CC., Blake?
Furcal
Ethier
Manny
Loney
Martin
Kemp
Blake?
DeWitt
DY
Hu
backup catcher?
Pierre/Jones?
CC
Bills
Kersh
Mac
Kuroda
Brox
Wade
Beimel
Kuo
Saito?
I wonder if Ned can get rid of Phew this off season or even wants to. That would be a miracle. I think we are just flat out stuck with Andruw the Cow.
I tend to agree with you Scott, buy out Penny.
Anyone know if there are any good catchers available as free agents? If we could get a good defensive catcher that hits .260 or so with 12 to15 homers and 70 ribbies I would move Marty to 3rd.
Re: Catcher
Don’t the Dodgers have another hot young kid in the minors? Is he to far away still?
Wally – why not give I-Rod a 1-2 year shot?
Good morning everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. Josh, can we have ITD day at the stadium with a tour, and if during the season, a game?
Hey Beav!! I-Rod I might try on a 1 year deal if nothing better is available. I do think Marty would be more productive and have a longer productivity at 3rd.
Good Morning Everyone.
.
Josh- On behalf of all Dodger fans, we say You’re Welcome to the Dodger Organization. But there is no need. We love this team through and through and wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for keeping this blog and for being part of our community, it means the world to us.
.
I am so proud of this team and these boys. This season has been highly emotional and exciting. We’ve overcome so many obstacles and adversity and still gave it what it took to make the NLCS for the first time in 20 years. I am so proud of the ‘kids’ for ‘growing up’ and maturing as players. It was so heartwarming to see them all enjoy the postseason experience. Now that they got a piece of it, they will be hungrier next year.
.
And remember 119 days til spring training 2009!!
.
Thank You Dodgers for a great year. We Love you. We love the Blue!!!
Bonjour Amy mon amie. Hope you are feeling better.
How about Gary Bennett? – LOL
LOL Scott!!! That is just plain scary!!!!
I have a feeling that Frank and Ned will let us down again this year. Even Andre doesn’t know if he will be in the scheme of things next season…….with all the outfielders and only three positions. I’d love to have Manny back but, I’m not sure if Frank will put up the money. I think Kent will be gone as well as Penny. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Andruw will retire or some team out there wants him (which I doubt) Juan, on the other hand may be tradeable. No matter what happens, I think we will have a lot to discuss during the off-season.
Good Morning…I’m up from trying to stay up last night….
.
Well I said how I felt last night…but time to move on and prepare for next year.
.
I LOVE THE PICTURE OF ANDRE AND HIS BABY AFTER THE GAME….
http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/la/photogallery/year_2008/month_10/day_16/cf3624451.html
.
I’m sure Ethier wants to stay closer to his fam. I don’t blame him…I will always root for my Ethier!
Morning Everyone!! And isn’t it a LOVELY mornin?
Manny’s already gone Borass on us and said he’ll go to the highest bidder. That says Yankess all over it.
Sorry but DLowe, no loss. He’s a Jeckyll and Hyde pitcher. When he’s on he can be very good, but when he’s off, he’s very Penny-esque. Penny, no way and say good-bye. He’s a Schmidt waiting to happen.
In that pic with Russ and McCourt, the look on Russ’ face pretty much sums up my feelings.
Agreed Beav!!!!
My boss suggested that the Dodgers are one of Jake Peavy’s teams that are not in his no trade clause. We’d probably have to trade Ethier or Kemp for him. Worth it? Thoughts?

PianoMan ~ All those pictures said it all!
I want Maddux back as our 5th starter.
Well we all knew that Manny was temp trade….but I do want him in the Dodgers.
.
It seems that Ethier & Martin both took the lost to their heart. It was their first time. They will get “manny” chances to win in their future. Those two + Kemp are great players, but they need to learn how to shake of when then don’t do good. I know they are still young. Good LUCK my boys in blue.
hi jhall- despite the loss last night, I am feeling some what better today. It’s finally getting easier to live!
.
What a hell of a season. It was a lot of fun. Dodger baseball is the only baseball that I live for!
.
I think the hardest thing last night was walking out of the stadium and actually saying goodbye. I wont be walking into the stadium for so many months, and by then it will be a completely different team. Dodger Stadium has been my home for the past 7 months and it’s so hard knowing I can’t just come back next week. That is harder to let go than the loss. I am still proud of the team and all that they’ve accomplished!
~~~~~JOSH~~~~~~
WE STILL WANT THE ITD-BEHIND-THE-SCENES-TOUR-OF-THE-STADIUM WITH YOU AS OUR TOUR GUY!
AMY – Walking away from the Stadium must of been very tought. Imagine how Manny or Nomar felt last night…it could be their last game in that Stadium as Dodgers. Oh man my eyes keep getting watery.
.
This was the first time I got attached to a team in any sports….Imagine my boy have his firts flag football game this Monday coming up. I’ll be the one crying each time they loose…..
Too soon for me to even think about next year. Always an empty feeling when Dodger season ends. Even if they finish in last place, I always listen to Vinny’s bye bye.
Thanks to all the crazy bloggers out there whose names have changed too many times! But a shout out to dodgereric, jhall, enchanted, messagebear, martinloneykemp, dnelly, leekfink, jungar, max, pierreeast, old fogey, and everyone else I’ve missed because my brain is swirling.
ERIC & NEL – I actualy have two songs under my name…they are posted in Eric’s Dodger Lyrics site.
.
ENCHANTED – So did you work on Song #99? You should use the song the dodgers were playing last night after they lost. Song by Green Day.
Scott – If I were to trade Dre or Kemp I think they have to get at least two everyday starters – one to replace them in the line-up, and one to fill a need. Peavy’s just not enough.
Hey Rose, Green Day’s too 90’s for me. I’m an early 80’s and before kinda guy. Did a partial on #99, one of several I started months ago during the season but never finished. I’ve got a partial on #100 too – maybe I’ll finish it up before the winter meetings.
A GREAT piece of Manny:
http://www.dailynews.com/dodgers/ci_10732081
Thanks to you too Khali!!! Have a great day everyone. Catch you all down the road.
Good Riddance [Time Of Your Life] – That is the name of the GREEN DAY song
Hey E,
I doubt the Madres would see it your way though. What is the OF going to look like next year? What if ( a big if) Jones gets in shape and actually can hit again? I’d sign Manny for 2-3 years, but no 5 year BS anymore with these guys. But, the way Mc Greed has raised prices on everything through the roof, why not sign Manny and CC and Furcal? It’s ok to spend money on the RIGHT guys. Otherwise, people are not going to come out to the stadium for crap at those prices.
Summary:
No Kemp/Ethier for Peavy
Keep Kemp & Ethier and sign CC.
Sign Manny for 3 years or find out if Jones can hit ASAP!
I like Pierre as a fill in and PH if he’s ok with that – otherwise trade him for anything in return.
SCOTT – like you way of thinking, but trade Pierre for someone that can play and has a better team spirit attitude!
ENCHANTED – Can wait to read your songs, I’m sure they will be great!
hey everyone! just wanted to stop by before i head out to school… did anyone see that picture of Andre kissing his baby after the game!?! it is absolutely adorable!!!! check it out if you haven’t seen it!! well… this has been a great season huh!!?!! i’ll come back on later tonight when i get home… have a great day everyone!!! GO DODGERS!!!!!!
.
Acardona/amy/Acardy = Ethieraholic and dodgers fan for life!!!!
I think signing CC should be their #1 priority, especially with Lowe and maybe Penny going. I don’t see The Cow contributing anything. Just more Boras snake oil he was able to pass off as a ballplayer.
So who are the tradeables? DY, Hu, Troncoso, DeJesus, ???
Not much there to help fill the cupboards.
I also think this is why the D’s went for it this year with Manny and Blake – the opportunity probably won’t be there in 2009. Ned’s left us with just too many holes to fill in a swiss cheese line-up.
Whatever happened to Jayson Werth? CRAP! He was still on the roster when we signed Juan Pierre for 45 million!!! A little patience wouldn’t hurt McGreed.
ACARDONA – I had checked out the picture earlier…the baby looks so tiny and soooo cute. He needs a mini Ethier Jersey.
enchanted ~ Do you think teams will want some of our minor league prospects as trade bait? I do know a lot of teams wanted Matt but Frank would not let him go. I think McCourt like the youngsters…………Joe, on the other hand, not sure. Also, I can’t believe those Philly “fans” (if you can call them that) are still posting trash on Dre’s blog.
TRU – I’m sure the Dodgers Management are looking at everything they’ve got for trades…I just hope Ethier & Kemp are not traded. And those Phans are just immature and unrespectful. I just hope the Rays….win…not the Red Soxs, not the Phillies.
Rose- I understand completely. Sara and I stayed until the kicked us out of the Stadium last night. We watched Nomar, Andre, Manny..etc. come out and say goodbye. Nomar sat in the dugout forever just reflecting. It was so bittersweet and sad. Happy or the accomplishments, sad that’s it’s an ending. Wow. It’s over. This crazy and exciting season has finally over. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
.
kpookie- you are right. The craziness that is ITD has also provided us all with the same feelings of family and friendship. We all went through this season together and now we have to reflect back.
.
I love my team 🙂
I don’t know Tru. There’s not a whole lot that’s too major league worthy on the farm right now. Might add Elbert to that list above as tradeable. I’d hate to see them trade Lambo before seeing what he’s got in the high minors, but the way things are, beggars can’t be choosers.
Enchanted, I’d like to see them use Elbert as a starter again and get him a full season starting in the minors. He’s still a possible stud. Hard throwing young lefties are hard to come by.
AMY – OUR DODGERS ARE THE BEST! Eventhou they lost last night, I would love to be in the Stadium and cheer like ya’ll did! VIVA LOS DODGERS!
For sure Ned’s got some tough decisions Scott. I think we have to face facts that with Borass as his agent, Manny’s gone, so now we have the next few years to see if trading LaRoche was a wise decision. With the money that’s freed up though through all our FAs, I’d say sign Ferk to an incentive laden contract for a year or two max. Sign I-Rod for a year or two max. I think both can be had fairly on the cheap. Sign Maddux for a year or hire him as the pitching coach. CC’s going to be a stretch, but Sheets wouldn’t be (injury risk there for sure.) So you’d have:
.
SS – Ferk
RF – Dre
3B – Marty
1B – Loney
CF – Kemp
C – I-Rod
2B – DeWitt
LF – Pierre
.
Not ideal, but competative in the west.
No Pierre please. No pitchers with injury history either. And no washed up catchers off their ‘roids. How about Garrett Atkins for 3B?
Feels like I have a massive end-of-semester hangover, but I’d rather have the hangover on October 16th than September 29th (or August like the Giants, heheheheh).
I’ve been up since 3am typing a paper that I’m going to have to massively rewrite before the week’s over. My brain is fried, and my eyes burn. And now begins the long, cold lonely winter.
But last night didn’t bug me too much. That’s weird, since I’ve been waiting to see the Dodgers in the NLCS and beyond most of my life. But life quickly puts things in perspective. Last night, around the second inning, I was in my room watching the game, and my girlfriend was cooking burgers. One of the burners had been broken and wouldn’t light for well over a year. Well, for some reason, the burner decided to work, and burned the crap out of the family heirloom cutting board that was resting on the burner. When my girlfriend lifted it, I guess a huge fireball popped up, and she was freaked out.
In the midst of my sulking about the ballgame, I heard her yell, and came in to find the kitchen full of smoke and her all freaked out. But she was okay, the kitchen was okay, and all of a sudden, the massive, weight-of-the-world 2008 NLCS became a bunch of men playing a children’s game. There are more important things than baseball, after all.
That being said, I think I can shave off my playoff beard now.
Thanks for putting things in perspective, nsblues!
Hey North!! Great story! As you can see we’re wasting no time planning next season!!
I am done with this team for the most part (where I will live and die with them as I have now for 20+ years) if they don’t bring back Manny. I mean he just had maybe the best postseason in history, after leading us there. The reason not to get him would be a money issue plain and simple. And I don’t want to hear that. Not when top deck seats went from 6 bucks to 51 bucks each, let alone the dreds in the stands and the 20 dollar parking. The TV revenue etc…This team will go nowhere again next year without a prescence like him in the center of the order. And when they tell me Jones is that guy as he should rebound, well then stick a fork totally in me. Manny, Kemp and Ethier. Done. Go get CC. Done. Do nothing else major. If they can’t afford that, sell the team.
no problem, scott. The pic of Andre with his kid in the dugout puts things in perspective as well. Now he can concentrate on being a father for a while (not that he doesn’t during baseball season).
The pic of McCourt shaking Manny’s hand looks like a family friend setting off back home after a long, much-needed vacation.
Okay, I’m off to get my SoCal fix by heading to In-and-Out. See everyone soon/later
NSBlues – It’s true baseball or any sport is a bunch of people playing a children’s game. But the inner child in us is what keeps us enjoying the game, it’s what keeps us cheering for our team. For us Sports is just a past-time a hobby that we just enjoy. Sometimes we can have a bad day and turn to baseball to make it better. We can let go when the season is over and move on when our teams loose.
For some people (like the coaches and players and all managements) it is their life, their job, their occupation and if it was tough for us to see them loose. Imagine how they felt.
I guess the best thing to do, as a fan is just move on and stay positive…don’t take it to the heart, it is just a game. And the best thing to do as a players is to learn from your mistakes and move on and don’t let success get to your head, cause the minute you make a mistake…it will bring you down, down and it will be harder to get up.
nsblues – wow!!! glad everything is good, and yes, things like that do put life into perspective really quickly. That picture of Andre holding his baby kind of has that same feeling. There are other things in life that are more important.
A great year!!!
.
Next year will be even better. I’ve said all along that this year was 1974. That was the year the Dodgers great run of the ‘70s began culminating in the ’81 World Series victory. Similarly, this is the year a new era of great Dodgers teams got its first post-season series victory by beating the Cubs. I look forward to many years of long playoff runs and one to five World Championships.
.
We’ve got a great core on the offensive side. Two of the three outfield positions are filled with outstanding young players in Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier. Expect each to improve next year in full-time roles all year (Joe finally “got it”.) We’ve got a solid stud behind the plate in Russell Martin. I doubt James Loney will have a batting average as low as this year’s .289 for the next decade, and I repeat my prediction that sometime within the next seven years he will be challenging .400 at least well into September. Blake DeWitt has proven himself a good major league starter. We’ll see how high his ceiling is.
.
The pitching, too, looks god and young. Despite his NLCS struggles, Chad Billingsley is a very good pitcher who might become a great. Clayton Kershaw is at the beginning of what promises to be a very special career. Kuroda is a good if maddeningly inconsistent pitcher. Kuo is outstanding when healthy. And James McDonald and Scott Elbert should make strong contributions next year. I expect Saito is done with his American career. (Thank you “Game Over in Japanese” for three wonderful years.) It’s time to see what the Big Blue Brox can do over a full year.
.
We do have some holes to fill with the departure of Lowe, Saito, Kent,; probably Manny and Casey Blake; maybe Beimel, Nomar, and Penny. A couple others I’m not worried about like Berroa, Ozuna and Sweeney.
.
Our first priority should be a proven stud at the top of the order. Unfortunately those are extremely expensive and hard to come by. Obviously, the top choice here is C.C. Sabathia. I’ll be thrilled if we sign him. But not that disappointed if we don’t. He’s going to cost something like $140 million/7 years. That is a scary contract. It’s difficult to think of a pitcher who has gotten that kind of a long-term, high-dollar contract and has earned the money. I wouldn’t do it. Better to rely on Bills, Kershaw, Kuroda, and hope that Penny or Schmidt can have one last great year while the young arms come into stardom. Maybe pick up a second-tier free agent like (just by way of example) Kris Benson or Paul Byrd.
.
We need a shortstop. We have two good prospects in Hu (Who? Yeah, Hu) and Ivan DeJesus, but they may not be ready for primetime just yet. Among the free agents available (if my information is current and correct) are Orlando Cabrera, Felipe Lopez, Edgar Renteria, and a personal favorite Cesar Izturis (who showed signs of returning health by stealing 24 bases last year).
.
This post has been more than long enough. Suffice it to say we’ll need to bolster the bullpen (resign Joe Beimel!) and figure out whether DeWitt will play 2nd or 3rd and fill the remaining hole. In all fairness, Delwyn Young should either get a chance to start somewhere or be dealt to a team where he’ll get that chance.
.
GO 2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION LOS ANGELES DODGERS!!
I’ll tell you one thing, I’d much rather have Manny Ramirez than a Green Necklace or a top-of-the-park observation deck that makes beautiful Dodger Stadium look like a spaceship.
http://www.ballparkdigest.com/images/new_dodger_stadium/new_dodger_stadium_2.jpg
Beautiful (except for the spaceship thing), but it won’t mean anything if we don’t have any championships, and Manny is the best bridge between championship tries now and championship tries when the Young Guns really hit their stride.
After the taste we got this year, I doubt the fans are gonna settle for anymore almost-good-enough-to-make-the-postseason seasons.
I get pitching is paramonunt but I want Manny for 160 games way more than wanting CC for 35. If I had to choose.
LNY4LONEY – GO 2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION LOS ANGELES DODGERS!!
.
NSBLUES – It is interesting everything that the Dodgers are doing to the Stadium (I need to get me a job at the Architecture firm doing all this changes). It looks very nice. The idea of the upper deck is nice, but yeah they need to stick to the existing Architecture Design. And who knows maybe once you start seeing it more and more that futuristic stuff will grow in ya. I was never in to that whole futurestic – contemporary Design, but working in an Architecture firm all that is starting to grow in me.
And yes it will be tough to get that excitment back that Manny had brought…but who knows what next year brings.
I have to agree with jungar here. Without Manny, the Dodgers can’t begin to justify the outrageous prices. Resign Manny and let the rest of the pieces fall in.
rose – been over to Dre’s blog lately? – awful, pathetic and very sad people indeed 😦
RESIGN MANNY = More ticket sales $$$ + more parking sales $$$ + more souvenir sales $$$ + more food sales $$$ + more company’s wanting advertising $$$$ = $$$$$$$$$$ lots $$$$ and they will be able to pay for the $500 million renovation!
DNel – I already posted what I wanted to say and I just ignore the negative comments. I’m sure Dre is use to the negative comments from other teams fans each time they play in other Stadiums. Hey does comments just means that they are threaten by Andre. Those post only help Dre’s blog. And maybe Dre is good in Construction Criticism.
dodgersrule – I know, I know, I know, but still- get a life people!!! I can’t say anymore ethier. I think I have said plenty over the last 7 months – LOL!!!!!
Great conversation everyone. I would love to get C.C. only if Manny is not an option. I think we have the pitching if Manny stays. As far as short stops. Seems like a crap shoot, and I love Furcal, but I’m just not sure of his durability. The idea of moving Russell to 3rd if we can bring up (or buy) a catcher certainly is worth looking into. JP and Andruw are definitely going to be thorns in the side in the outfield, and that I guess we are just going to have to hope for the best or maybe some more piano action will be necessary when the time comes. Our young core is going to be awesome if allowed to stay intact. This in itself will go a long way if Ned does the right thing and keeps them together. They are just going to get stronger and stronger as the years progress, and then it will be “watch out” time – Here comes another Dodger Dynasty.
The real problem with signing Manny is as McCourt said last night: “It takes two to tango.” Manny will sign where he wants to be. The money will be pretty much the same for the real suitors.
Hey Nelly – Remember my first song paraody??? Remember JP and reindeers??? 🙂
I know I wasn’t going to engage, but reading that Phillly crap REALLY got me mad! Take a look at my last post on Andre’s blog…
Hey CP!!!! Those were the days!!!! I still laugh about that one – LOL!!!! I look back on a few I did in the beginning, and it is pretty hilarious. I am sure there will be plenty of songs being written during the off season as decisions are being made. The Dodger Organization is going to be saying “Here goes all those ITD lunatics again with their songs. Ned, are you sure you want to make THAT decision?”
Hey Nelly!!! I had forgotten about that. But that was fun!!! 🙂
I LOVE Mike’s idea of having an ITD day at the stadium with a tour!!! Let’s do this Josh!!! 🙂
Well, I guess I’ll try and rev up what little creative juices flow thru me and come up with another song parody!!!
I just went back to Andre’s blog and got a Philly fan to respond back to me. I feel sorry for them; I really do. It’s one of those things that common sense isn’t so common anymore…
And Trublue – Thx for the back-up on Andre’s blog…
CP – very cool. I know dodgersrules is right, but it still sucks that people are that inconsiderate. Anyhow, like she said, I know he has heard worse out on the field in a visiting ballpark. I gotta get back to work, my lunch 50 is over!! I will check back in about 30 minutes when they are working on an assignment and enjoying some free time.
Deb
Well, I’ve gotta go. Got some stuff to do before my interview. I’ll catch up with y’all later…
Good luck!!!!!
OK, I had to rearrange a few things because I started this one several weeks ago before the trade deadline, but never finished it.
Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods, Billy Don’t Be A Hero:
NEDDY DON’T BE A ZERO
.
The young gun lads came up from the farm teams
They ran and hit and they could throw
I looked across and there I saw Neddy
Said they’re too young, some gotta go
And with old Joe makin’ line-ups
And Ned assessing what he could get
From where I stood I started cryin’
And through my tears I tried to say,
.
Neddy don’t be a zero, don’t be a fool with our guys
Neddy don’t be a zero, you know your deals aren’t that wise
Knowing Neddy’s dealings all blow, I said, “Neddy don’t let them go-o-o”
Neddy don’t be a zero, don’t trade them plea-e-e-ese
.
The boys in blue were left by the wayside
Free agents leaving Dodger ground
Now with so many holes that need filling
And wasted spending all around
Ned really needs to step up
And bring us in some cap’ble men
But Franky’s tank was runnin on empty
Looks like more worthless veterans
.
Neddy don’t be a zero, don’t be a fool with our guys
Neddy don’t be a zero, you know your deals aren’t that wise
Knowing Neddy’s dealings all blow, I said, “Neddy don’t let them go-o-o”
Neddy don’t be a zero, don’t trade them plea-e-e-ese
.
I heard ‘bout Frank that he got a letter
From ITD on who should play
The letter said that Ned was a zero
Said Logan White’s the man to pay…
For #100 this song is quite gay (not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
YOU DID IT!!!! #100 ~ FABULOUS JOB ENCHANTED!!!!!!! BTW – love the original song for some reason 🙂 This is gearing up to be a great off-season!
Its obviously a slow work day…
Its beautiful Enchanted! I’m excited for a great off-season with ITD!!
Good day ITD’ers!!!
.
It’s time for Dodgers Hot Stove Baseball!!!
.
I hope everyones doing great today.
.
Good perspective NSB with your story.
.
I for one have pretty much been feeling that as well. Watching 1 hour of CNN will make you realize how this is a game and yes very important it is to us and how passionate we feel about it, it’s a game.
In regards to some of the offseason moves I think Penny is a Schmidt waiting to happen. As I was catching up with the blog I was thinking that and someone mentioned it.
.
I say bye to Penny.
.
I don’t think Lowe wants to be here at all. I think he would get more money somewhere else as well as I think he wants to be in the east coast and play on a team that will put up more runs for him. I know I would!!
.
So Bye to Lowe.
.
Bye to Kent, Sweeney, Berroa, Johnson, Park, Saito, Ozuna.
.
My bubble person is Nomar. I think he can be a good chip to have, just not an every day chip.
.
Try to resign Ferk, Manny, Beimel, and Blake.
.
Getting CC is iffy for me. I don’t like long term deals for pitchers especially overweight ones. If it can be had for 5 years okay but he wants 7, so that will take some more thought for me.
.
I don’t want Sheets either. He is always broken and we have Schmidt for that duty!
.
I also say DY needs a shot at something. Jones is one that I’m hoping he’ll be on Jenny Craig this offseason or maybe I’ll see him at my local Subway shop. Hopefully he realizes he is one step away from doing nothing but being on the autograph circuit and work on his game.
.
As for Pierre, … Hello there Dead Horseman!
.
This is getting long, & as of now I don’t know all the free agents out there but at looking what we have and who will probably be gone I really don’t see us getting farther than we did this year. We have many holes. Maybe in 2010 we might make it back. Hopefully Ned won’t of cleaned our roster of the young guys we love & White will of taken over by then & we will of gotten a few more of our younger guys who aren’t at the Majors (IE: Lucas May & Xavier Paul, etc…).
Some early 2009 stats predictions:
.
Kemp: .310, 30 HR, 115 RBI, 40 SB, Top Five MVP
Loney: .328, 19 HR, 108 RBI, Gold Glove, Top Ten MVP
Ethier: .290, 31 HR, 102 RBI, 15 assists, Top Ten MVP
Martin: .306, 15 HR, 81 RBI,
DeWitt: .278, 16 HR, 70 RBI
.
Billz: 19-10, 3.15 ERA, Fewer pitches fouled off, Top Five Cy Young
Kershaw: 17-10, 3.47 ERA, great second half, Top Ten Cy Young
McDonald: 9-6, 4.12 ERA, hot start, return to minors, come back solid
Broxton: 37 saves in 44 chances
.
Offseason suggestion to Juan Pierre: Improve your bunting and your ability to draw a walk. If you can get your OBP back up to at least .360, you can be a valuable part of a championship club. You have a decent chance to win a starting spot if we don’t resign Manny and Andruw stinks it up again.
The real problem with signing Manny is as McCourt said last night: “It takes two to tango.” Manny will sign where he wants to be. The money will be pretty much the same for the real suitors.
—
And that’s why I throw down the harsh words. I doubt were real suitors and thats because Money..not because it take two to tango or any other excuse..pay the man his money. We should not be outbid. The dodger payroll can go down in 09 and 2010 with CC and Manny on the team if they knew what the hell they were doing.
DEB – I had to post over at Dre’s blog…it was all for fun!
Good afternoon/evening ~ I saw on ESPN that Ned will be back next season. They were also discussing, as you were, whether the Dodgers should/would sign Manny. Most agree with the fact that the revenue he creates, would be worth the signing. Some feel that when manny arrived in L.A. he was bigger than “Fernando Mania”. Even Jim Rome said that he hasn’t seen anything like it since Fernando played for us.
119 days until Spring Training!!!!!
.
Happy Thoughts 🙂
Amy ~ Can’t wait!
If Borass is really talking 5 years for Manny though, that’s insane for a 37 year old ballplayer.
The way I see it, there are A LOT of holes coming up in a couple weeks. Manny might be worth 3 years, but look at it this way, if you’ve got holes at SS, 2B/3B and starting pitching, having Manny’s bat is not going to be able to overcome those issues, and those issues will sink you over the course of a season. If its a matter of a limited amount of money, I think you’ve got to plug as many holes as you can without trading the core. Also, if you can hold up through 2009, you’ve got another bazillion dollars coming off the payroll, and a good shot at Holliday, who can also field his position.
enchanted ~ you made a great point. I think we will have to wait and see what Ned and Frank want to do. I really want a good, solid team, too. I really don’t think any team will give Manny 5 years.
119 Days until spring training is a lot closer than 136 days until summer vacation for me 🙂
Amy – how are you feeling?
trublue ~ The fans from the other team really need to get a life…. absolutely horrible behavior.
enchanted – you are making too much sense again. We had this problem with you last off season, didn’t we? 🙂
Nellyae ~ I am so angry at those idiots on Dre’s blog. They just don’t get the fact that it is mostly a restaurant review and not the official Dodger blog. Just having a hard time keeping quiet……….even though Dre is probably not even reading it anymore.
Hey Tru – If your offended by it and they’re just being nasty and baiting people, turn them in – these blogs are supposed to be free of abuse.
enchanted ~ there is a guy Trueblue55 over on Dre’s blog who is taking care of these people. He’s been doing a great job for two days now. Cpo has also expressed her opinions about their lack of common courtesy. Dcollins tried to talk rationally with them but, they really blasted him……..he’s a fighter, though, and can take it. We tried to explain to them yesterday that ITD was the Dodger blog, but they didn’t have the courage to come over here. Hey, I’m honored, one called me “homey”. lol
I am sure he is laughing about it. It is a little comical if you think about it now. If they have nothing better to do than to come over to our side after winning the NL, then there must not be much happening on their side. If we were them, we certainly wouldn’t be spending time over there. We would be right here celebrating with our own team. Even in losing, we are celebrating. Now, that’s what I call fans. Yes, we are a little heart broken, but we certainly aren’t acting like it’s the end of the world ethier. We are all geared up for next year already with 119 days and counting. It doesn’t matter. Tampa Bay is manhandling Boston again, and it doesn’t look like much is going to stop the Rays at this point. Go Rays!!!!
….however, they are personally attacking Andre for having an opinion and that is not cool at all. We want our players to think they are better than the other team. Any fan of any team would want the same I would hope. That’s how the underdogs win all the time by thinking they are better than the team they are playing.
Nellyae ~ just goes to show that Philly fans are dim-witted. lol
……..not playing with a full deck!
………….have a screw loose!
There are those of us here on this blog that have been accused of the latter two TruMom!!!
LMAO!!!
this season has been incredible, and definitely memorable. it was a sad and disappointing ending, but the team put together a great run nonetheless. i thank all our boys for fighting all season and giving us continued reasons to be so proud to be a dodgers fan. this offseason will be fun and interesting, and can’t wait to see what next season holds in store..
a few things that have made me a little sad.. seeing nomar stare out in to space and the field after the game yesterday and waving goodbye to the fans.. andre stating on his blog that he doesn’t know whether he’ll be back..
yes this is a sport. and a business. and you never really know. but it is also true that people grow attached.. and fond of players.. and it is sad when reality hits. i fully expect andre to be back and starting, and i fully expect that nomar won’t. he may even retire. what ever happens, it will be interesting.. and i can’t wait to find out..
Sara ~ saw your post on Andre’s blog……….very nice. It’s kind of hard to squeeze our love for the Dre and the Dodgers in between all the trash talking…..but, we can do it!
DNelly and trublue, the thing that amazes me is that they still don’t get that Andre was only saying he thought the Dodgers were an equal opponent to the Phillies. He never dissed them or their fans. He plays for the Dodgers, not the Phillies. It’s part of his job to believe his team can beat any team and to support them until the bitter end. The Phillies don’t pay his salary. Oh well, I’m just trying to ignore it at this point. Makes me too mad. I really hope he is back next year. I think he will be. It looks like Pierre is asking for a trade, which I hope happens for him and they said in an article I read that Jones doesn’t want to come back to LA. I think Andre just wants to be in a situation where he has a commitment from the Dodgers that he has a starting job going in and it is his to lose and that he would be allowed to have the normal ups and downs that every player has during the season without losing his job. I love Russ, but he started off really badly this season and was allowed to work through it, which he should have been. I am just saying Andre derserves to be in the same situation. He has more than earned it. He should not have to come into spring training wondering if he has a job. He always holds up his end of the bargain by working hard in the offseason and being in shape, so I’m not worried about that part of it. Did you guys see the pic of him holding his son in the photo gallery? Too cute.
Wow the Rays are working Dice K!
bluecrewgirl ~ we have been trying to tell them that Dre’s was just saying what he thought……..they don’t seem to care………in fact, they are using his blog as if it were this one. I try to ignore it too but, every once in a whille I have to defend the Dodgers and their fans, like you, and a lot of others do.
In an 80’s term bluecrew, “Word”!
dcollins ~ nice job on Dre’s blog! That idiot, Gamble, isn’t too bright, is he?
Hey there Tru. I don’t get it either. What is the matter with saying that you felt you should of won. The games were even during the regular season. Of course they could of won & to say anything else would be just your basic player speak (IE were just taking them one at a time, etc,…).
dcollins ~ You should see the long post by some other Philly fan. They must not have a blog of their own. It’s like they are chatting with each other, like we do here, except with a lot more insults to our players and fans.
No he doesn’t make all that much sense Tru.
.
I don’t think Obama would be happy he was trying to get voters for him:)!!
.
Also he was making threats on the internet which is actually illegal and he could get in trouble for it.
.
I just wish they would get over it. I mean Dre is such a classy guy.
.
During the start of the series 1 guy was upset that Dre didn’t sign any autographs for him at the hotel and was on his blog ripping him. I always see him signing for people and taking pictures with them. I hate it when people act like that for an autograph. It would make me not want to give them out as well.
Tru I just read that post. At least they weren’t getting all nasty. They posted that he “trashed” their players.
.
I’m sorry but I don’t see a trashing.
.
A trashing would be talking about Meyers and how he was arrested for assaulting his wife. Something like that.
.
I see someone who felt his team was better and they didn’t perform up to their potential.
thanks trublue. it is hard. there’s lots of trash talking from the classless phillies fans. but that’s alright. i’m sure andre isn’t fazed by that crap. btw, yesterday at the stadium. tommy lasorda was addressing the fans post-game.. and when he called dodger fans the greatest in world (as he always does) the phillies fans started booing. are you serious?? you’re in OUR house. don’t disrespect tommy lasorda..
If they would read what we, the fans, actually say about Andre, they would know how classy he really is. But, they kind of skim over the posts and pick out tidbits, and then trash talk. It’s okay. I have a feeling they will be gone as soon as the World Series starts. Or, maybe, not. They might still come here just to rub it in………..just hope the Phillies get swept.
I’ll be praying that they get swept!! lol all this just makes me want to go to a game in Philly next season, against the Dodgers of course, just for kicks! lol
Yup Tru.
.
Normally I want the team that beat my team to be the team. Also I always pull for the NL.
.
Not his year…
sara ~ I don’t think Andre is phased by it either. I believe he read the posts from yesterday because he tried to explain why he thought the Dodgers were better. I would never boo anyone on an opposing team. We can boo our own players, if we choose to do so. But, I think, as a whole the Dodger fans are a pretty classy group.
It looks like it’s getting worse. I posted a story from my class this morning hoping that it will try and get them to understand that this is not the place for them to be talking crap. Bluecrewgirl, maybe it’s because we understand him, but Andre would never intentionally disrespect anybody, but for whatever reason they are seeing it that way. I am just hoping Andre sees it for what it is worth and just takes it for what it is….. fans from another team who obviously don’t know how to be fans of their own team. Part of it has to be jealousy. Dodger fans aren’t collapsing because of a loss. I truly think many thought we were going to go off and be like the Cubs fans the night they lost, and we didn’t do that. It’s fan jealousy 🙂
SLAPPY WANTS A TRADE!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!
jeanette ~ Great post on Andre’s blog!
Thanks Blue…they haven’t replied, but i’ll be there for when they do! 🙂
max ~ are you kidding?! Please say it’s really true!
I guess McCourt was also going to ask Jones for a refund. That was on CNN.com under MLB Truth & Rumors.
.
That would pay for about 60% of a year of Manny!!!
hello everyone. hope all is well.. 🙂
.
yes Sara- this has been the best Dodger Season of my life. I loved every moment of it, even when I had to defend JP..haha.
🙂
.
Viva Los Dodgers!
7-0 Devil Dodgers – Go Rays!!!!
In the same article about Phew and his agent wanting a trade, there was a short paragraph mentioning that “some teammates” were told by Andruw that he didn’t want to come back to LA – seems that he was upset by the fans booing him for non-performance or some such thing. After his saying that he didn’t care what the fans thought . . . what does he expect?
Did I just read that headline correct? Max, you are right. JP does want a trade.
Please Ned, give him what he wants. I respect him for who he is, but Andre and Matt are your core outfielders, hopefully with Manny, which I am sure you will sign, right?
We should been up 3-2 in this series. Thank alot Manny for not hustling to 3rd in case that ball wasn’t going out and costing us a run and Furcal costing us a run. We would had won that game 3-2 and still no excuses what happen in game 4?
********************************************
Who is this spit111 dueche bag?? We had a great season, and amongst 13 other retarded posts he decides to take a run on the player who got us here? Will someone please redirect him to the porn he was watching all season and stay the hell off this blog?
By edwcarter on October 16, 2008 7:36 AM
How about you shut you ******* mouth I know what I wseen Manny **** up in game 1 plan ans simple if you like players that screw us a game go ahead oand jumop off a cliff and you the biggest goofball here. WTF happen to you the other night? I don’t watch porn maybe you just stupid and don’t realize we could had won this series. Why are you goign to start **** with me *******? Me and you was ok until you wanted to start talk ****. Come on Carter take you *** to Dodgers stadium so I can kick your punk ***,
I see my stupid computer is messing up again.
Wow it is truth he does want a trade so hopefully Jones is next?
LMAO!!!!!!!! I really need my red pen 🙂
Nelly, I thought you’d misplaced it – lol
Come on Balfour get that last out.
diggie – it drives me insane!!! LOL!!!!! actually I use purple (a school color) or Dodger Blue
I know, me too. I do a lot of editing and proofreading for my room mate and some of his stuff sets my teeth on edge. I feel for ya, buddy.
Damn 7-4 TB. Ortiz went deep. Kazmir should had stay in for another inning.
diggie – It’s one of my many occupational hazards. There is even an actually building sign (which must have cost a fortune) for a furniture store in a town nearby that has the word “dinning room” instead of “dining room.” I mention it every time I drive by it. Then I am just beside myself when I do the same thing. However, I understand those that can’t spell. My husband is one of those, but the grammar is just what kills me.
Hey, hey, hey……
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!
“So edward, can I call you eddie? Not if you want me to respond”
DNEl – I read you story over at Dre’s blog. It was beautiful. That sounded like me crying. I can’t believe that people are still talking crap over there. It is just funny. I had to say something. But hey. They are going to make have one of those hispanic panics….and I’m about to go ghetto…LOL! I’ll just ignore them…why throw more fuel to the fire. Once the World Series start they will be harrasing the next team….DEVIL RAYS….Go Rays…..my brother’s friend plays for the Rays….eventhough he is not active…he is still representing my hometown….MORENO VALLEY, CA.
thanks dodgersrule, and yes, it’s not worth it to say anything. Andre knows what’s real, and he knows in his heart he meant no disrespect. They can think what they want. He has done all the right things all season,and he knows his fans know that too. So, I decided to just keep writing to him, and if he is reading, I am sure he is laughing at those and blushing at the others. There have been some wonderful things said as well.
Ok so Pierre wants a trade and…Teammates say Jones wants no part of a return to Los Angeles, where he was a target of angry fans for his poor performance.
—
Two players who ALREADY dont want to play for us. Penny left town, so that’s three and those contracts add up 35 million bucks. But McCheap can’t afford Manny
Dnel I was just scheming through the earlier posts and I saw the post by AMY were she is counting down the days til’ SPRING…we were going crazy waiting for the series to start and it was less than a week….now we have to wait 100 and something days….this will feel forever.
.
ENCHANTED – I Read your song. You are just so creative. If you mind me asking but are you in the field of song writing…professionally? Great Job!
lol @ Hispanic Panic…i have to control myself too not to go ghetto fab on them…but i’m lettin em kno whats up…
and yes that story was very touching..I had to call my cousin in from the other room to show her!
Wow Pierre wants to trade and Jones wants no part in L.A. I mean I understand that they didn’t play to their potential, this is just me and ANYONE (DODGERS-FAN) can set me straight, but do we really want players to leave the Dodgers organizations MAD, hating the Dodgers or do we prefer the players leaving the Dodgers SAD cause they don’t want to leave the Dodgers?
.
OK I have another Dodgers questions…Why was LoDuca traded back in 04′? Wasn’t he loved by all the fans? I just remember my sister was all sad when he was traded.
Nah Rose. Just a guy with too much time on his hands out here in the desert. But thank you for the compliment!!
I might have to hang ’em up though. If they trade Pierre and Jones, there goes half my subject matter!!
lmao enchanted!
Jeannette I don’t thing I’ve met you, but I have been reading some of your post….you go girl….so you are a big dodgers fan?
ENCHANTED – I’m sure we are going to have more colorful team players in the Dodgers…so don’t stop!
Enchanted, we always have JoKo to write about – lol
We’ll always have JoKo diggie!!
.
And apparently Flanders too!
Hey..well i never really post on here, but I always check it out for info..I LOOOVVVEEEEE the Dodgers! lol but I guess we all do on here right? well except for a couple of intruders….but yeah..huge DODGER fan..baseball in general….hopefully I get to work for the Dodgers when I graduate…any baseball team..but the Dodgers are my number 1 of course!
how ’bout them red sox?! wish our dodgers could have came back like that…. 😦
My ‘puter is not happy tonight, so I’m gonna shut down for now. Catch up with you all tomorrow. BTW, have we heard from CPO about her appointments? Been thinking about her all day today . . . .
Jeanette, I was just going to post the same thing, that I wish the Dodgers could have come back like the Red Sox did, lol. Oh well, the future is bright for the Dodgers and spring training can’t come soon enough.
Good night Diggie!
.
JEANETTE It would of been wonderful if our DODGERS did come back. – The RED SOX are still hangin in there? I am rooting for the Rays….
I like the red sox…I just don’t want any WS games played at Tropicana Field..that’s gotta be one of the ugliest stadiums to watch on TV..but which ever team does go just has to sweep the phillies..lol
jeanette – great posts on Andres’ blog -very nice 🙂
enchanted – you may have missed your calling 🙂
diggie – I know CP this afternoon, but haven’t heard.
I can’t believe Maddon took Kazmir out. I see Balfour owned left handed batter but should had Price in their. Go figure that Nancy Drew would get the game winniing hit.
thanks. I never really post, but I think I should start now more often…perfect timing huh? once the season ends! lol
It is funny cause at first I did not want the Red Sox to win at all, but now if my choices were Phillies vs. Red Sox, the Phillies Phans left me no choice….GO BOSTON…. I just hope that once the World Series start, or once the Phillies find out who their opponets are they move their blog and let us blog in Peace!
jeanette – this board tends to get more creative in the off season. It’s when the best conversations happen because Ned and Co are making the decisions for next season. It won’t be boring that’s for sure.
I see my stupid computer is messing up again.
I am Rose also an Ethieraholic-Martinista…love them both they are the reason for my 1655 on my blog name. This will be my first off season blogging.
.
ENCHANTED – he is one of our song writers
.
NELLY who is Spit111…I don’t think I’ve met that person unless they had a name change… which is common here
I’ll be sticking around..hard part is keeping up with everyone and trying to figure out who’s who lol
spit111/sl7175/shad – all the same person
enchanted – Beav
jhall – Wally
Dodgereric – Ward Dear
dnelly – June Darlin’
NELLY- Anything for you! And by the way, I’d be honored if you called me Eddie! Just thought I’d play police and get this loser spit111 and his bum comments outta here.
Thanks DNel – now who is EdWCarter?
cool…well i love all my boys..Martin the most though lol..so that makes me a Martinista? 🙂
so where you ladies from?
Oh yeah this blog is full of ladies (hey maybe that’s why then Phillie fans keep visiting our blogs….LOL)…I’m from Riverside, CA
dodgersrule and jeanette ~ There is a story on why we became the Cleaver Family, but if you stick around, if all goes according to plan, you might find out sometime tonight. A very similar situation occured the night we changed our names to the Cleaver Family names, and it’s about to take place again very soon depending on who’s reading.
DNEL – OOOOHHHH the Beaver family have a plan….this is fun…more waiting to do…shhhsshhh…but I will be reading!
dodgersrule, they do keep coming back for more considering how much they say they hate us, don’t they?
So are we like becoming THE BRADY BUNCH well THE DODGERS BUNCH?
edwcarter – everytime I see that name I think of “Pretty Woman” 🙂
jeanette – I am from the Central Valley – Merced, CA (giants country not only in city but in my house). However, do to recent events with our Phillies fans, I might honestly have to say that the Giants aren’t looking so bad right now.
Hey Blue CREW Girl…well hey the Dodgers were getting all the attention since we came back with a big BANG and MANNY and just the whole year was exciting!
dodgersrule – has nothing to do with the Cleaver Family, but it’s why we became the Cleaver Family.
dodgersrule1655, I’m mostly just a casual reader, admittedly not nearly as smart as most of the regulars (jhall, enchanted, nelly, dodgersrule, ect.)….so I come to be enlightened every day! ITD if full of great, passionate, Dodgers and has no place for losers so when I see one I have a hard time holding back.
NELLY- Anything for you! And by the way, I’d be honored if you called me Eddie! Just thought I’d play police and get this loser spit111 and his bum comments outta here.
Hey ******* what in the hell you scared to face me? Maybe you the one scare to get your *** whoop chump.
Hey Beav – Trying to cross to watch from the grandstands again? Ward Dear should be coming home soon. It’s late in Ohio – Wally might be in bed.
Yeah and your 15 to 20 posts a month. Look like you the biggest loser here.
OH wait EdWCarter…I am not as smart as the others, well in BASEBALL or DODGER HISTORY…but I am trying to catch up. Still have a lot of catching up to do. So you are a Dodgers fan and not one of the “OTHERS”?
He’s probably joeyp in disguise.
Big time Dodger fan! I bleed blue through and through. My Dad raised me on Dodger baseball, and he used to always tell me that I am a 3rd generation Dodger fan…so its kinda an honor for me to cheer for our beloved Dodgers.
Let me guess everyone is going through a name change. Season is over so we change our names to prepare for the new Season?
Central Valley and a Dodger fan?? cool! lol I’m from L.A…(inglewood to be exact)..born and raised…and still here…went to San Diego (SDSU) for about 4 months last year but had to come back…nothing like Los Angeles!!
He’s probably joeyp in disguise.
Thank goodness there are no disguises for you! We all have you figured out. A first class idiot that doesn’t know how to spell…oh wait….has a bum computer….my bad.
BTW, welcome jeanette!!
SPIT111 well at first when I was quickly reading through EdWCarters comment he made toward you I miss-read and thought it was ENCHANTED!
dodgersrule – some people need to watch their language around the Cleaver Family. Josh has warned us not to use such language or threaten with bodily harm so we decided to do the exact opposite of said language and become the Cleaver Family. This happened once before a few months back. A member of the Cleaver Family got reprimanded for something he/she did not have any part of, only after all conversation was erased. Threatening with violence gets you eliminated from this blog, but I guess lesson hasn’t been learned because we are back at it again.
Don’t tell me you never make mistake. If you was a really a fan why haven’t you posted more message and stop livingin your parent basement?
thanks..i look forward to spending this off-season on here, especially when I’m going through withdrawals from not having any baseball to watch! I don’t think that just the Lakers will keep me going…lol
So at the end of each BASEBALL season people start acting up. It sad that it is happening again.
Don’t mix me into this Nelly, I have had no stars inserted into any of my posts…yet!
Edwcarter – you will be fine – no worries 🙂
So Jeanette where are you from? Are you from L.A.
NP we can all disagree what happen to the team but seriously calling me out about the Tracy/Torre situation is a no no. Where was he at since the beginning of the year and when 95% of my posts was nice and I was a nice guy until me and leefink work thing out? I don’t even think I have seen him on this board one time.
What the h-e-double hockey sticks is going on in here?
ENCHANTED: I get it! LOL!
.
CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG.
.
LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO SPEND IT ARGUING
Not that it matters much…but ask the regulars. They know me.
When thing go wrong I really get upset when this team lossing and I know it not their fault and they wa splaying hard, I haven’t been the same person last week on Sept.
yeah…Los Angeles (Inglewood) born and raised! like I said earlier, lived in San Diego for about 4 months last year for school and I had to transfer back…Love L.A. too much 🙂
My spelling is crap and my grammar is crap but when thing go right than I’m a happy person.
Ingleeeewoooood! Up to no good! 🙂 Hey J! Welcome!
I grew up in Inglewood…well my childhood, but my parents didn’t want us going to the High School there so we moved to MoVal, by Riverside!
Jeanette…how did you like San Diego? I love it there…especially Del Mar and La Jolla. Did you ever see a Dodger game in Petco while you were there?
edwcarter has been on here quite often. There have been many regular bloggers that have not been on as much lately but doesn’t mean they can’t have their opinions. If we are talking averages, then edwcarter’s average is probably more the ndeschesnes’ average. jungar only has one or two lines per day, but I don’t think anyone here would say his opinion is taken any less seriously than someone who has been on here all day. So, you need to watch what you say. Just because you don’t agree with edwcarter, (or whoever it is for the day) doesn’t mean we all have to.
I know we want this team to improve so much and I thought this way the year when Jones was going to turned it around but it wasn’t the case and I really thought this team was going to win it all this year.
lmao..i knew someone was going to put that..what up b!?
whats wrong with the HS?!? lol i went there…
Good evening Ward Dear…. Good night Beav.. see you in the morning, honey.. 🙂 Say good night to Wally for me.
You can say I have the Bradley temper now and that a bad thing. I really hate to lose my temper on just a game but can’t seem to stop it.
What someone grew up in Inglewood? Should had gone to Compton High School.
can I erase my last statement? I was only half way down the page, and was responding to enchanted saying good night last night – wow – that was very strange 🙂
Hey, J! I’m from my own little ghetto in Pico! Ha! I went to see Coldplay at the Forum this year and even Chris Martin said it, J! In the middle of one his songs too. It was the funniest thing ever because everyone started cheering!
edwcarter-You know I did like it out there, it was great but I didn’t feel the school (SDSU) was for me it was a big party school and I wasn’t into that scene, I heard that the Public Relation’s program at Cal State Fullerton was pretty good so I transfered there and I just commute. I didn’t get to go to a Dodger/Padres game because the weekend they were there I was in L.A. for a family party, I did go to a Padres/Rockies game with my room mate since she was from Colorado. They got a pretty neat stadium.
Oh really and I don’t know how I missed that. I guess he’s miss the leefink and me argument when we were fighting over stupid thing and I didn’t mean half of the things I said their.
What I do Mom??? Can’t a fella just sit here mindin’ his own business anymore??
.
C’mon Jose, looks like its just you and me tonight cowboy…
Wally snores.
Girl Inglewood was not the safest when I was only in Kindergarten I had a Knife put on my neck by a female gang member that whole event was very traumatizing for all of us, my brother got beat up (he is the oldest, but lucky he was a jock and was more interested in Baseball) and alot of time his bike was stollen. Our house was broken into several times. So our parents did not think it was safe for us there. I was only in 6th grade when we moved. I do remember that my neighbors (Walnut) and the street behind us (Grevilla) were pretty good streets. My Elementary school also felt safe.
nelly- one of these days you’re going to have to email all the nicknames and the inside jokes that y’all have! I’m bringing nerdy back but I want to be cool too!
HA! are you serious!? that’s funny! but seriously every time I meet someone and tell them where i’m from they ALWAYS say that..it hasn’t fail yet.
edwcarter – I saw the Padres/Braves game at PetCo, and it was pretty cool. It was kind of fun because I was just there for the sole purpose to watch a ball game and didn’t have to worry about who won. I enjoyed the Petco Park, and Trevor Hoffman’s Intro was awesome I must say. Very impressive even if it was the Padres.
That’s look like something Compton gang would do.
Oh god they showing the Drew interview.
Beav – I don’t know what happened ~ it allowed me to post looking at yours and Eric’s post from last night – very strange indeed.
there are certain parts out here that I don’t like but for the most part is OK..I’ve never encountered anything like that..thank god..Inglewood High School was bad when my older sister went there from what I hear but when I went there it was fine, a lot of the ppl I graduated with in 04 went to good schools, I even got into Berkeley, I just didn’t end up wanting to leave up north..not as bad anymore
I would love to go to a Dodger Game in PetCo…I’ve driven through there so many times.
.
So we got a little WEST SIDE CONNECTION in ITD
.
Biddybooo – you bring that nerd back!
Thats awesome Nelly. I have a goal to catch a Dodger game there sometime, maybe next year. I love to see the Dodgers on the road. One of the best baseball games I’ve ever been to is LA v Houston last year when Bilz came in and pitched a shutout till the 9th, and then gave up a homer. It was great to see Dodger nation out in full force. I just wish I lived where a pro team played so I could have the chance to see them live more than I do.
:::dancing to a song only she can hear:::: doodoododooodooo!
What ever happen to Alex? I remember he was on everyday.
biddyboo – the Cleaver Family names are our only nicknames other than if we had a name change. I have a bunch of different nicknames based on who is talking to me.
I went to a Braves/Padres game back at Qualcomm to see one of my brother’s friend pitch when he was a starter for the Braves, but Qualcomm was not a very good stadium for baseball..good for SDSU football but not baseball..
Jeanette – one of my good friends still live there, so I do visit every now and then. She also lives in the nice parts. Well like any other city, there is good parts and Bad. My neighborhood was not bad but we had intrudors…like Dre’s Blog! What area did you lived by?
.
I’m surprise that the Great Western Forum is still having events…OK I’ve seen Depech Mode there in concert and yes I was sitting in the very last upper row….man that is high…and my first concert ever was also there…yup NKOTB!
Just because you don’t agree with edwcarter, (or whoever it is for the day) doesn’t mean we all have to.
By nellyae16 on October 16, 2008 10:36 PM
Actually he didn’t say nothing much but called me out on the Torre/Tracy. What in the heck he’s thing about? Did he even had to quote me like that? I’m not going to reply to it calling me a ******. Just say you don’t like Tracy and move on. Someone else bring up the 93 wins with Green/Shefield was on this team when Tracy was manager on this team in his 1st year? Come on we’re not talking about Tracy team years ago we talking about this team now when Tracy refused to play the rookies. I’m just saying plan and simple we flop Tracy and Torre than I can easy see Tracy probably winning 90+ games. Why is this even an arguement or a problem?
I grew up by Rogers Park, but now I live by Inglewood High School..The Forum is owned by a church but they still rent it out for events.
DNel – you do have a bunch of nicknames I pretty much call you by several…DNEL, DEB, DEBBIE, MS. DEBBIE, and NELLY…
dodgersrule- The Forum is staying alive primarily by concerts it seems! There were a few shows I wanted to see but didn’t because they were at the Forum. But when Coldplay came into town I had to go. They are my favorite band besides Jet. Luckily Jet sticks to small standup only venues!
.
.
Wow. To go from NKOTB to Depeche Mode…it’s like I am looking at my own cd collection! 🙂 haha
Hey Jeanette I can’t believe they turned that into a church is just doesn’t look right. I always go there to watch the Kings, Lakers and Sparks played and I’m glad they move to the Staples Center close to my home and not an extra 30 min away from the Forum.
BiddyBoo I love Cold Play…I have not gone to see them in Concert but hopefully someday. I’m still hoping to catch U2 and Matchbox20. Did you go to the NKOTB reunion concert last week?
I remember when the Forum was Orange…LOL..
And they pack that church up, i’ve passed by on Sundays and seen the parking lot filled up…that’s a whole lotta people!!
the forum use to be orange?!
Well Jesus does have more fans, than basketball or any rock band.
dodgersrule- If there is ever a band to see in concert it is Coldplay. If you can believe it they rock it out! They have a show coming up in November at the Honda Center (formally the Pond I think) so if you can get tickets go for it! You will love it! They’re known for jumping off the stage and running up to the cheap seats and playing a song or two for that section. I’m with you on U2. That is my dream! I didn’t go to the NKOTB concert though. It’s been a slow year as far as the shows I go to this year! So far just Coldplay.
November I’ll look into it and the Pond (sorry like that name better) is a good place for concerts. I’ve seen Shakira there it was great. Any seat is good. NKOTB concert was great.
So Dnel what do your students call you…and you forgot “MOM”, I think I read someone call you that several times.
That’s alot of nickname
Jeanette – you it was like an orangy red color. I believe now is blue..(YEAH! BLUE)…but I haven’t seen it in a looooooong time.
I don’t like concerts at arenas, I prefer the Gibson or small venues. Haven’t been to the Nokia yet. Only been to one concert at the forum, backstreet boys..lol..hey i was 13…lol..I do like outside venues like Hyundai Pavillion (or San Manuel Ampitheater now)..went to Rock The Bells there this year…
mom – that came from Wally (jhall) and Beav (enchanted)
Mrs. Nelson – students
Ethieraholic – Dodgereric was the originator of the name
Yeah it’s BLUE..but that’s how I always remember it being..
I WILL BE SAYING MY GOOD NIGHTS DNEL (ALL OF YOU), SPIT111 (WHY SPIT111???), JEANETTE (IT WAS NICE MEETING YA AND CHATTING WITH YA), BIDDYBOO (IT WAS ALSO NICE CHATTING WITH YA), ED (NICE MEETING YOU), ENCHANTED (SONG #100 YOU DID IT), WHO ELSE IS HERE WELL ALL OF ITD ….GOOD NIGHT MY DODGER BOYS!
Good Night.!
It’s okay ~ today I told my class it was time to go to their “ITD class ” today instead of their “Beagle Time” class – it’s what we call our reading time, and our mascot is a Beagle. They all looked at me like I was nuts.
J- I’m with you on the big venues. I prefer Anaheim House of Blues for my shows. That’s where I always see Jet, another awesome band live. Verizon Amphi (originally Irvine Meadows I think) is cool. I saw Nine Inch Nails there. I love outdoor venues! Rock the Bells…how fun that must have been!
Good Night everyone!!!!!
Good night, dodgerrule! Hope to see you again!
Good night!
You want to really know? I used this account to upset the Giants fan hahahahaha. I just haven’t logged out of this one because everytime I hit logged in this id keep on poping up. I just have to remember to logged in the main mlb.com board and I really hate to do that.
Yeah Rock the Bells was fun!! I’ve been to every rock the bells, except in 07..this year was good though got to see A Tribe Called Quest..
I hate to used that other id because some fool along time ago was spamming email to other people on this blog. I remember Max Power, leefink and scottwhittering was getting all those crappy emails.
Well, bedtime for me now! I have to hit the books in the morning and study and make nelly proud! 🙂 Glad to meet you, J. Hope to see you around here again! Keep on rockin’! Good night everyone!
Good Night!
I think Joe has a lot more experience in running a baseball team than say.. anonymous blogger edwcarter….
By spanner@aol.com on August 1, 2008 7:00 PM
I’m not sure how anonymous I am…I’ve been posting on this blog for the past 2 years. I wonder how up to speed Spanner is with the Dodgers. Does he know that Andruw Jones is on our team?? If not… I’ll fill you in. He sucks.
By edwcarter@gmail.com on August 1, 2008 7:07 PM
posting on a blog doesnt qualify you to manage a baseball team. Yes Jones sucks.. but most of the people on this board supported his signing last summer.. i know i was here… and Ethier sucks against lefties this season… I’d rather see Pierre play than Jones but Johnson is tough against lefties so they might as well stick Jones in there for a game… I’m sure Joe is playing the percentages…
By spanner@aol.com on August 1, 2008 7:14 PM
hmmmmm and I guess since his friend spanner is not here no more then he have to find someone else to pick on.
i tried really hard to ignore those philly idiots on andre’s blog.. but i couldn’t.. sadly, i caved. and i engaged in the conversation. my bad 😦
Today was the day for the Dodgers to clean out their lockers, and as Juan Pierre boxed up his things, he wasn’t in the mood to talk.
“Why are you coming over here?” Juan Pierre said. “I’m gone. I’m not obligated to talk to y’all anymore.”
pierre sounds bitter and angry..
i say good riddance.. PLEASE GIVE HIM WHAT HE WANTS!
Pierre/Jones/Schmidt for Longoria? Yeah right I wish that was truth.
Morning ITDers!!!
Frank’s going to have to eat at least half of Pierre’s contract in order to move him. That’s still a few million saved though.
Can Andruw and the D’s mutually agree to drop the final year on his contract and walk away? Doesn’t sound like something Borass would do. No one’s going to give Druw $18 million, nor will Borass be denied his cut. I bet if there is an agreement, they’ll be a new “buyout” clause of at least $5 mil. As a player, Druw’s no loss in my book. In fact, it virtually assures Matt and Dre not having to fight for their positions. Does it also muddy Juan’s status? Could make him a starter again.
With all this drama in the OF, does DY go from being #6 on the depth chart to #3 in one fell swoop?
enchanted ~ Good morning to you. Borass is appearing on ESPN’s First Take in a few minutes to talk about Manny. I agree with you on your take of Jones and Pierre. I would hope they can both be out of Dodger blue. I hate to say it but, I think DY may be gone as well. On the Dodgers home page, Joe says pitching is their #1 priority. So, are we adding to or getting rid of some of our pitchers? (I know Penny, Lowe and Park will probably be gone)
Good morning ITD gang!!! Great songs Beav!!! Well done!!!
I don’t think the Cow will walk away from the $18M and I don’t think the players union would let him and the Dodgers redo it. As for Phew, unless the Dodgers eat most of his salary, he’s not going anywhere. Unless they sign Manny, I don’t think they will trade Phew even if they can find a sucker to take him. I am not very optimistic about them resigning Manny. I think the cost and mostly length of contract is going to go too high and scare Frank away. I have a bad feeling we are going to be going thru the whole Cow, Phew, Andre, Kemp mess again starting in Spring Training. Good for Beav and other songwriters, eh?!!!!
Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Remember; Frank, Ned, and Joko only have one brain cell and one ‘nad that they juggle. And ne’er the two should ever meet!!! LOL!!!!
jhall ~ LMAO! What a way to start my morning!
Good morning Trumom!!!!
jhall ~ I’m beginning to think we wont sign Manny, after seeing Borass on ESPN talking about how he and Manny would sit down in a week or so and decide what is best for his family and, is looking for BIG BUCKS, of course!
I saw that Trumom. I agree!!!!
Going to be an interesting winter. Padres already looking for teams to take Peavy.
Anyday I want to here breaking news ned had just been fired Logan demoted to GM and his first signed was CC for 7 years 105 millions and Manny got a 3 yrs contract for 75 millions. I also want to here Pierre/Jones/Schmidt getting traded for Ryan Braun but it won’t happen.
Won’t be good if the Snakes get Peavy. Webb, Haren, Peavy would make an awfully formidable rotation.
What’s best for Manny and his family? Fod Gods sake the guy just came off a $168 mil contract. What more could he want?? It sounds more like what’s best for Scott Borass as usual. Anyone that can manipulate somebody into tanking for one team and dropping 2 option years @ $20 mil because he’s not the one getting paid isn’t looking out after his client. I don’t care who the FA, I would NEVER sign a Borass client. No ones done more to hurt the game than SB.
enchanted ~ That’s what I thought when he said good for his family, too………….he loves it in L.A. so, why wouldn’t he play here if he loves it soooo much? A little less money for happiness, that would be refreshing for a change. What about us getting Peavy? I think we are one of the teams in his “no trade” clause.
I have a dull feeling Manny won’t be back…unless Boras told him to say NOTHING that would inhibit contact negotiations. Otherwise, his seeming show of love upon winning the West and then beating the Cubs…all his talk of the “next two years” and getting better, seemed to disappear in the haze of “gas is up and so am I” attitude. Boras will be a zillionaire after the Manny, Lowe and Teixeira contracts. enchanted, looking at your last sentence, I wonder if Boras’ middle initial is an “O” or not?
Thought about that pookie!! I’m sure it’s probably Oscar!!
I feel like a Caveman. In honor of my favorite commercial. We are all stupid Cavemen to Frank……..
—-
Fans: I can’t believe we may not resign manny
frank: he wants 100 million
fans: ah you may want to ah take a gander at the scoreboard
Fans: Whoa, what’s up with the it takes two to tango BS Frankie M?
Umpire: They are bullbleeping you on the whole event.
Fans: Very funny. I get it. We quit, but we get it.
Ramirez arrived as a gift, literally, a superstar who had so worn out his welcome in Boston that the Red Sox paid the $7 million remaining on his contract so the Dodgers would take him off their hands.
He powered the Dodgers into the playoffs, during which McCourt shared the owner’s box with such luminaries as Tiger Woods and Barbra Streisand.
Ramirez energized his teammates and the fans, triggering an attendance and merchandising surge that generated $10 million to $15 million in gross revenue for the Dodgers, according to sources in the organization who were not authorized to discuss club finances.
He drove in one run for every game he played.
Ramirez is the first big-time power hitter McCourt has employed in his five years of ownership.
“Based on who he is, what this organization needs and what the fans need, I just sense he’ll be back,” former Dodgers great Steve Garvey said.
“Power brings out the fans. Power changes the game. Power creates excitement. You have to have that power. We haven’t seen that kind of power for a while, which is why we’ve seen an erosion on the baseball side of the organization.”
What do you do with Andruw then if the player’s union won’t let him out of his contract? (Unless of course its something SOB wants and then he’ll tell the PU how its gonna be regardless.) Druw doesn’t want to be in L.A. and obviously has no pride in his performance, so what you’ve got is a guy that’ll do nothing but drag the team under.
jungar ~ Right to the point! lol
Andruw Jones has a tremendous amount of pride. He has humiliated himself this year and $18 mil or not for ’09, he knows it’s the last contract he’ll see for anywhere near that money. So he’ll spend the off-season getting himself in tip-top condition and find that lost stroke………..what? Oh, the men in the white coats are here? Just a minute…………anyway, as I was saying…………HEY, I SAID “JUST A MINUTE”………HELLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!!!!
The Manny signing has nothing to do with the Dodgers and everything to do with Manny. If he doesn’t want to be a Dodger. no amount of cash in the world will keep him in LA. Conversely, if he wants to be a Dodger, McCourt will find the money. As McCourt said, “…it takes two to tango…”
Kahli ~ you are right! We shall see real soon what Manny really wants.
.
.
dodgereric ~ and, Andruw has hired Sweeney as his personal hitting instructor.
Manny is Manny and Boras is Boras, but Manny is not his slave. You’re right kpook, if Manny wants to stay here and the money is good but not the best, he can always do what Arod did last year.
and, Prince Fielder’s nutritionst! Those vegatarian diets can do wonders!
Sorry ~ “nutritionist” oh, heck dietician
u keep believeing that. Manny will go where the best contact is, where he has a chance to win and where he enjoys playing. And why should manny take not the highest offer And why wouldn’t we be the highest offer. It’s obvious what he meant for the city, the team and McFranks wallet. To lowball him and hope for a hometwon discount is an insult.
—
1. he enjoyed playing here
2. he has a chance to win
3. This 3rd part is not up to Manny. It’s up to Frank.
A-rod is a choker and had a reputation to protect. Every team he has ever gone to got worse and his clutch numbers are the worse in baseball. Manny, is a two time WS champ and has always produced in the clutch, along with the total numbers he gives each year. Best playoff hitter ever. He allows you to get guys going simply by letting them hit in front of him..there is not one reason not to bring him back and give him more than anyone else. Furcal, schmidt and jones each made more than Puljos last year. Don’t tell me you cant afford manny.
Jubngar ~ I want Manny, too! Like, you, I have said the revenue he generates and the electricity of the crowd, is worth the money.
From a purely business revenue standpoint according to Jungar’s numbers above, in two months Manny generated $10-15 mil. So I think at least the first two seasons, maybe three, he generates $25 mil or so in increased revenues. That’s basically a wash to offset his contract or in other words to Frank, Manny’s a breakeven money-wise. The increase in value to Frank is what Manny does on the field and to the hitters around him. If Frank goes 4 years at $100M he may get diminishing returns year 3 1/2 and 4, but those would probably be offset by playoff revenues.
If you aren’t going to lose money (see Pierre, Schmidt, Jones, etc. etc.), its a sound business decision to resign him.
The wild card of course is Borass. Do you trust him? Frank and Ned have already been burned by him twice.
Josh,
References were made on Andre Ethier’s site of a picture of Andre and his baby, but I can’t find where it may be. Can you help? Would love to see it.
Believe me, jungar, I’m not saying we shouldn’t give him whatever it takes to sign him. Quite the opposite. I just have HUGE doubts that McCourt thinks that way. I think that McCourt knows that the sun’ll come up tomorrow either way. I also wouldn’t presume to predict what Manny will want to do. He’s pretty unpredictable. I was just pointing out options and possibilities. I wouldn’t ever blame anyone that goes where the money is, but you have to admit that if there was anyone who might say, “Screw it Boros. I’m taking the $22mil the Dodgers are offering even though the Mets are offering $25. I like the LA weather.” – it would be Manny.
There is a lot that we know to be true:
1 – Manny gave us something that we have almost NEVER had here – a legit clutch power hitter that the other team fears to face.
2 – Manny walked away from $40mil for 2 years. It’s ridiculous to think that he’ll settle for anything less.
3 – Boras clients ALWAYS take the big money and NEVER gives the “hometown discount”. He also knows that he’ll never have a hotter meal ticket.
4 – I wrote several anti-McCourt letters to the Times when he was going through the process of buying the Dodgers with little or no money. I was incensed that he was borrowing money to buy the team and would have no more to invest in rising salaries. I still can’t believe that the transaction was approved. The only thing that makes sense is that the other owners were pleased that he would have trouble competing for free agents as well as keeping his own players down the road.
5 – For some reason, he’s investing a lot of money in these unsure times in non-baseball related things like the area around the stadium and the friggin’ LA Marathon! It’s going to take a while for the DodgerLand Experience to start dumping money into the checking account. Until then, it’s just a money pit. And other than making us more like Boston, I still can’t figure out the Marathon angle.
6 – Although we have the chance to dump a few big contracts this year, we’re still hamstrung by Pierre and Jones and Schmidt in ’09. Plus, our kids are going to need big contracts of their own in the next 2 – 5 years when they’re eligible for arbitration and free agency.
7 – McCourt knows that no matter the public outcry, he’ll spin and dance and 3 million plus will buy tickets next year.
8 – “there is not one reason not to bring him back and give him more than anyone else” Yeah, my fellow Dodger fan, there is. I believe that if McCourt has to choose between the bottom line and winning, the bottom line wins.
I hope he proves me wrong.
I just don’t see Peavy coming here and not when Duncan is still our 1st best coach. The dback needs RP’s not another freaking starter.
Won’t be good if the Snakes get Peavy. Webb, Haren, Peavy would make an awfully formidable rotation.
Enchanted and don’t forgot Max Scherzer in that rotation if the dback are smart.
lol only twice. It have to be more and I think Ned was the only one thaburned.
lol only twice. It have to be more and I think Ned was the only one that was burned.
I believe that if McCourt has to choose between the bottom line and winning, the bottom line wins
–
oh i agree. which is ironic because he dosen’t have the bottom line to compete the way he talks. If LA dosent get Manny I hope the Angels do. Then Franks failure will be complete.
Oh for the record if I thought that they could build a winning team without Manny id be all for that, but the track record shows that won’t happen under Coletti (making smart trades and good signings) But at least one very good bat is needed and who better fits the bill…?
That’s just sick LF Manny CF Hunter Vlad at RF and 1st bseman Texierea and they already have Rivera and Mathrew Jr.
If Vlad and Texeira resigned.
Mapol ~ Check the post on October 16th, 9:06am….there is a link there to view the pictures.
Hey Tru, I hate to ask this question but is Trublue55 your husband?
spit ~ no, but I think we should invite him here to chat………sounds like a cool guy, who’d fit right in with our “family”
oh so many questions that need to be answered this off-season.. it’s day two, and everyone’s minds are already swirling..
Josh,
We keep hearing rumors of the Dodgers interest in Peavy and the players that may be involved. Can you please let Ned know that giving up a package of Kemp, Kershaw, McDonald and any other top prospect for Peavy is without a doubt the worst trade we could possibly make. Peavy spent time on the DL this year. He won’t make it through his contract without going on the DL again, probably numerous times. Do we want another Kevin Brown?
Rumor has it Andruw wants no part of Dodger Stadium and their booing fans…Pierre wants a trade…Manny will be a Dodger???, Met, Yank or Phil…don’t forget Repko…Furcal wants back and Ned wants him back…Torre sees DeWitt as a third baseman…Hu or DeJesus will probably play 2B…therefore, if there is NO MANNY, the Dodgers will have oodles to spend on pitching, which Torre has identified as priority #1. Ned has said he will NOT break up the young nucleus, so Peavy is a “no go.” Does anyone really think Towers would trade Peavy to the Dodgers, anyway??? Pitching, pitching, pitching, with a “scrappy” offense.
pookie – I think with Hu or DeJesus at second and no Manny we might want to drop the “s” in scrappy.
I hope they’re not thinking it’s worth the risk to get a rival pitcher who’s owned us over the past few years, a pitcher who hasn’t had too many DL stints, but is coming of an uncharacteristically unhealthy season.
Seems that we’ve been down that road before, and now the only thing he owns is a chunk of Frank’s wallet.
We don’t want Peavy. he’s a headcase and Duncan exposed him 2 yrs ago when we hit 4 homeruns in the 9th.
Brown was ok until he got hurt.
The way the starting staff is shaping up, the only “workhorse” is Billz. I don’t think you can expect Kersh or McDonald to go much beyond 160 innings without risking them blowing out an elbow or shoulder. That leaves Kuroda needing to reach 200 innings and who Maddux? Schmidt?
This team’s in deep Schmidt for starters unless they do go out and sign CC. If not, they better have a long long list of middle relievers on the 40 man.
enchanted…agreed. hence, the quotes…unless Kemp, Etheir, Martin, Loney, DeWitt, et al, have a revelation in their sleep…
Hey there, all you ITD bloggers! I haven’t written for a couple days. I guess I’m still recovering from the end of the season. But what better way to recover than to pull up next to a hot stove?
.
Does anybody else remember where they were when they found out that Manny was a Dodger? I was on a trip back east, in a crowded taxi with my family on 5th Ave in Manhattan. The cabbie had the radio on, and all they said was Manny had been traded to the Dodgers. Imagine my dread – who was on the other end of the trade? Kemp? Ethier? Perhaps multiple numbers from the young gun core of the team? It wasn’t until three hours later that I got back to the hotel, fired up the computer and found out that it was “just” Andy LaRoche. I was certainly okay with that.
.
Look at how Manny changed the team. It wasn’t immediate. But he definitely had an impact on Ethier. Also, I’d say he helped the whole clubhouse loosen up. When Ned and Joe talked early this season about PVL’s (Proven Veteran Leaders), we couldn’t relate because the Dodgers had none of those. Not Kent, the only veteran who could possibly be seen as a solid contributor on the field. Not after he lit into the kids last year. Not Nomar, who is just way to fragile. Furcal was the closest, but then he went down on May 7th. Don’t even get me started on Jones, Sweeney, Schmidt, Pierre, Penny, etc, etc, etc.
.
Manny is the bridge needed to bring the young guns back into the postseason. Yes, we need pitching help, but without Manny, we’ll just be another 81-81 NL West team.
The Dodgers have NO control over what Manny wants to do…that’s why I’m prepared for Dodger life without Manny. Every member of the Dodgers front office probably wants him back. Which means absolutely nothing. It’s Manny’s and Boras’ world now!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say pookie, Flanders’ has really done a number on this organization. All of the vets he signed are not only worthless, they’re gone, leaving huge holes in the roster. We have an inordinate amount of FAs leaving, and he may have squandered so many millions that Frank will claim poverty and close the checkbook or limit spending. We’ve got few tradeable commodities, a fairly depleted farm system, and a club about to go to the WS that he’s done more for than his own. I hope no one calls Ned a magician or I might have to get physical.
Ned’s a ma………..I can’t! LOL!!!!!
dodgereric- awesome post in andre’s blog!
Thanks biddy! That poor place is like a train wreck, isn’t it? I looked on some site of theirs a few days back and they were calling Met fans who come on their site “trolls”. I like the term.
Good afternoon ITD writers and readers!!!
Wow!!! You have all been busy today for a Friday with only having been done with the season for two days. However, a lot of great conversation ladies and gentlemen. There are so many questions to be answered, aren’t there?
Glad to see you back Crash 🙂
Dodgereric – thanks for the wonderful post 🙂
It’s kids really that post over there I hope! Surely, there are not “phans” over there that are that immature! People just treat the Dodgers like a stick in their side. They have trouble understanding how we manage to jump all the hurdles that we did this season and still make it as far as we did! Most of my co workers are Angel fans and grown when I talk about the Dodgers!
Hi Biddy. There is hope for (ugh!) Angel fans. My room mate was one, but I refused to watch their games last season. It was always Dodger baseball. And he switched! He loves Loney – says he’s the best defensive first baseman he’s ever seen. And he has nothing but wonderful things to say about Andre and Russell, and especially Matt. So, like I said, there’s hope.
Starting pitching for 2009: #2 Billz (not a #1 after his NLCS fiasco), #3 Kuroda (maybe he’s a #4, but had two nice complete game shutouts), #4 Kershaw. That much is known. What is unknown is who is #1? It sure isn’t Penny and it sure isn’t Schmidt. That would leave chasing CC as a #1 (which I would rather do than trade for Peavy). Filling the #5 is less important, but is also important. It could be Maddux, but I think he’s out of gas. Then you look to McDonald, Stults, and/or Park.
Hey, Diggie! To me they’re casual fans that go because it’s cool! The few of us Dodger fans there are actual real fans that talk about the team and the games all season! I loved Loney the first time that they brought him up. I knew he was going to do great!
biddy, I had a run-in with one of the Angel fans at my work yesterday. He wears his gear 24/7 by the looks of it, and that’s fine. More power to ya. As soon as he saw my face, I kid you not, he comes up within 12 inches of me and yells, “GO PHILLIES!!”. Now he’s not just an Angel fan, he’s one of those guys whose two favorite teams are the Angels and whoever is playing the Dodgers. If you know what I mean. So I tell him to back off and get a life. He keeps it up. I tell him to get away from me and he still keeps it up.
I work in an office that might be the most politically-correct place in the nation, but I’m also someone who has worked in construction for 26 years. I know the language of the gutter because I’ve spent most of my life in it. I let him have it, in no uncertain terms and with nothing left to the imagination, complete with an invitation to take it outside the gates, now or after work. And at a decible level that could be heard at a NASCAR race. Something like, “To heck with you, you person with questionable parentage! Why don’t you go and do something that is anatomically impossible? If you do not cease and desist, I will remove your cranium and place it rather violently in a place where the sun never shines.” Something like that. I spent the next hour in the boss’s office and am anticipating having to enroll in some sort of sensitivity training soon. So be it, it was worth it.
This morning this guy was in my cubicle with a flag of truce. Literally. He had a little stick with a paper napkin taped to it. LOL! Punk.
dodgereric ~ just got back and read your post on Andre’s blog. Very well said. But, I bet some uneducated idiot will take you to task over it.
.
.
Good afternoon biddyboo & diggie ~ hope you are having a good day.
.
.
crash ~ always a pleasure.
dodgereric- Too funny! I would have high fived you on the way to my office! Last night my little sisters boyfriend was over and I don’t really like the kid to begin with. So as I am walking to my room with my dinner he laughs out loud and says, “What’s up with the Dodgers, man!” I gave him the icy stare as my little sister whispered, “Don’t say that name to her!”
61 million commited to Andruw Jones, Hiroki Kuroda, Juan Pierre, & Jason Schmidt. WOWWY, WOW, WOW, WOW
Good job Coletti.
Hola, Tru! I’m happy that ITD regulars are coming around here still. Always a pleasure read up on the genius of y’all!
Eric- great story. I am honored to be your friend and not your enemy!
.
biddy- I understand. No one is being a jerk to me, but people at work keep coming up to me and offering their sympathy. What they don’t understand is that it’s ok. We had an incredible run and this season has been beyond wonderful. I am happy. Sad to say goodbye. There is def a void now. But we are all here, friends and we will carry on! I don’t need people bringing up–‘oh how sad’ to me anymore!!
.
btw. 118 days til spring training 🙂
Dodgereric 7 biddyboo ~ that’s the kind of abuse Nellyae gets in her own home! She can’t put out her Dodger “stuff” because they’ll take it away………….when the family is home, she doesn’t even watch the games on T.V.
Sorry should be & not 7
Amy ~ and, we did make it into the playoffs!
Tru – Not only did we make it into the playoffs, but we crushed the Cubs and kept the Curse alive! BAAAA!
Dodgers and their fans have got nothing to hang our heads about. We had a great post-season! Now the task at hand is how to build on this momentum so that we can garner one or more WS championships in the next 4 to 6 years.
crash ~ that was awesome………..almost made the season worth while! I just wish I were in the stadium during game 3!
Tru – I would have liked to be at Wrigley (like SCurtis was) when Loney hit the grand slam and all of the oxygen left the stadium. A great quiet fell on the field.
Offer Manny 4 years for 100 million, anything more and you let him walk. I think the Yankees are going to go to 5-to-6 year route. If we keep Manny, I would make the Peavy trade for Matt Kemp, Peavy has a reasonable contract compared to the monster that Sabathia is going to get. The floor was set when the ******* Giants gave Zito that 7-year deal…
Manny might light a fire in Andruw Jones’ ***, influence him like Manny did Ethier…
For two years in row the Dodgers manager didn’t rest Martin enough, led fatigue and led to his slump, no excuse for Torre in batting Martin in the cleanup spot…
Pierre is asking for a trade…yeah, that will make it easier to move him….
Carlos Santana, the main prospect we traded for Casey Blake, is already seen as a Top 3 catchers in the minors, we are going to regret this trade, he has a great bat…
Dodgers prospects to keep an eye on:
2B/SS – Ivan DeJesus
CF – Xavier Paul
P – James McDonald (of course)
3B – Josh Bell
1B – Andrew Lambo
Lambo is the power bat in the Dodgers Organization, he will be taking Loney’s spot in the near future, remember the name…
Might be mistaken but didn’t Teixeira play a solid 3rd base at one time, if Manny walks go after him to fill up that hole.
crash ~ yea, that would have been better!
og109 ~ thanks for the info on our prospects. I’m not as up-to-date on our minor league players as I used to be. After Schmidt, I’m not keen on giving up big bucks for a pitcher you can only use every 5 days. I’d much rather have a bat everyday.
It’s weird, I expected to hear the worst because I live and work with Giants fans, but so far, I have been given more condolances. People will come up to me and say they are sorry about my team. Our custodian (a Giants fan) comes in and talks baseball every morning with me said, “I couldn’t believe what I was watching”, but that was it. So, he let me talk through it, and never once said anything negative. This morning we talked about Boston and how we couldn’t believe that ethier. I also told him about our issues with our friendly Phillies Phans, and I told him I think the Giants just became my #29 out of 30 team, at least for a little while.
Dodgereric – Wow!!! That is some story 🙂
That’s was way back in 2003 and he also played LF and RF and I really doubt he wanted to move to 3rd again. I can’t waited when they say breaking news Ned had just been fired, Logan demoted to GM, Sweeney and Kent are going to retired. Logan first big signing was CC for 7 years 105 millions and Manny got a 3 yrs contract for 75 millions. I also want to here Pierre/Jones/Schmidt getting traded for Ryan Braun but it won’t happen
Make thet CC for 6 yrs 144 millions.
If we can’t get Manny for 100 mill, maybe we can then sign Willie Taveras for 50 million.
Make it $44 mil for Tavares Jungar – we don’t want JP to get an inferiority complex. LMAO!!
Or is it too late???
There aren’t many options for third base, unless DeWitt develops more of a power stroke, there is going to be a really big hole there. The only names that look even a little good are bringing Casey Blake back or going after Joe Crede. Their agents are going to know the market is limited and their prices are going to go up. Is chasing after Beltre an acceptable option? I know the Mariners are willing to listen.
Eric, I just read your post on Andre’s blog. Very well said. I doubt it will get through to most of them, but hopefully they’ll all be gone soon.
bluecrewgirl – so far so good on #16 blog. So, now we are thinking Willie Taveras? Hmmmmm.. I was also asked what happened to Tony Abreu. He was one of those that kind of got lost in the mystery DL list at the beginning, and maybe I just missed what happened to him.
Good evening ITD boys and girls!
I was planning on signing on yesterday afternoon after my appointments, but we had people coming over and I had too much to do beforehand. As far as not signing on earlier today, well, today was an extremely LAZY day for me. Thx for some of you (sparkleplenty & nelly) asking about my appointments yesterday. First, my doctor’s appointment yesterday morning. I got a cortisone shot in my left shoulder. My doctor is still saying bursitis or tendonitis; either (ethier) term works, since both are right in the same area. Like I said, I have new respect for professional players (not just our players, but for any team). This stuff hurts.
As for my interview in the afternoon, it went well. At least, I think went well. I liked the lady I interviewed with, and I think she liked me. And I don’t mean to sound negative, but I’ve been on interviews before when I thought it went well and I ended up not getting the job. But I’m hopeful for this one; just keep praying for me!!!
Nelly – either (ethier) – I love it that you got me hooked on that!!!
I know he had abdominal sugery, but I kind of lost track of him too. As long as we can trade JP and get rid of Jones, as well as keep Andre and the rest of our young core, I’m open to other possibilities. Not sure what’s going to happen with Manny. He was great, but I’m not sure I would want to give him 5 years if I were the owner. He’ll be 41 at the end and he supposedly has knee problems. I think 3 years is more reasonable, but I guess we’ll see.
I hope it all works out with the interview CP. I’ll keep praying for you!
thx bluecrewgirl!!!
Hey CP!!! I am finally starting to read some articles, and trying to get caught up on what everyone is talking about. So far from what I have read, unless Ned gets some bug up his butt, it sounds like our young core will remain intact, including Andre and Matt in the outfield. I guess the questions are pitching, Pierre, Jones and, of course, Manny. Then there is the question also of shortstop and 3rd base. There really are alot of questions to be answered.
Glad to hear your interview went well. Not sure what to say about the shoulder other than I hope it at least feels better.
As for the ethier (either). It’s an automatic to where I have to make sure I am spelling it right when I am typing school stuff.
I spent 5 minutes staring at the screen the other day trying to remember how to spell “either”.
Good Evening Ward Dear…. I am sorry about that. I am sure I don’t make it easy on you – LOL!!!
Great post by the way on Andre’s blog …. not to mention your story earlier about your co-worker.
Life hasn’t been too bad, but I do have to realize that Michael’s birthday is in a few days, and I am sure that is why it’s peaceful in the house. Also, I can honestly say, that this is probably one of the few time we are hoping for the same team to win.
Yeah Nelly – I’ve been reading to. If JP wants a trade, heck, give him what he wants! And if Druw is unhappy in LA, well, boo-hoo, let him go too. I REALLY think that pitching is key here. Again, I still say that D-Lowe doesn’t want to come back and I believe that Penny is gone. Yes, we have Billz, Kersh, and McDonald (yes, I think he will be VERY good). But that is an extremely young pitching staff. Yes, it is a nice idea to sign someone with a little bit more MLB experience, and I would love to have CC here, but the size of that contract is scaring me. I would rather hope if we get CC, it’s no more than a 5-year deal. Even a 5-year deal kinda scares me, but CC is a great pitcher and would DEFINITELY look great in the front of our staff. I would NOT do anything more than that. Look at Zito, look at our problems with Kevin Brown and Darrin Dreifort.
As far as the spelling ethier (either), I can just imagine how hard it is for you, you being a teacher. I’m sure you don’t want to teach your kids the wrong way.
On the way home I was listening the KNX and one of the reporters was doing a commentary on how politics is still so staged and politically correct. He made some remark to the effect that we hadn’t come far from Ward and June Cleaver days in that regard and they were playing the theme song to Leave it to Beaver in the background. It made me think of you guys, lol.
As far as the Peavy talks, I am mixed. On one hand, I would say, no way do I want to make a deal with the Padres. But making sure the snakes don’t get him, might want me to at least consider something. I mean if Peavy went to the snakes, that is an EXTREMELY scary starting rotation. But Peavy has been a perennial Dodger-killer in the past, so having him on our team would mean that’s one less grade-A pitching talent that we don’t have to face!
But again, I say this like I was saying about trading with the Rox for, say, Holliday. I don’t want any of our young guns coming back to bite us in the you-know-what. I’ve always liked Garrett Atkins from the Rox. He has always impressed me, ever since I first laid eyes on him. I think if we get anyone that currently plays within our division, I think free agency is the only way we could get someone like that. And if that’s the cast, the list of intra-division players I wouldn’t mind seeing in a Dodger uniform are: Jake Peavy, Matt Holliday, Garrett Atkins, and Brad Hawpe. I would love to have Lincecum, but he’s a LONG way from being a FA.
Keep your chin up cp! We’re all thinking and praying for you. I understand completely. My wife lost her job a few weeks back and it’s hard.
Thanks, June Darlin’. It can be hard to formulate an intelligent thought while your blood is boiling. And regarding my work ‘buddy’, it’s funny. He called me twice during the day and came in again before quitting time to ask again if we’re OK. He didn’t seem too concerned while I was jumping down his throat, so much so that I was thinking that he might take me up on my offer. I think a couple of guys took him aside who’ve known me for years and told him exactly who he was messing with.
Thx eric! I feel for your wife; it’s not a fun time trying to look for a job these days. I read your post on Andre’s blog; very good…
bluecrewgirl – the funny thing is that I have watched several episodes of the show since this whole thing started, and I am far from being June Darlin’, and I am sure the others would say the same thing about their roles. However, it is funny to watch and see how much of the characters really do say these things. Everytime I hear Wally in the show say “Gee Dad….” it makes me laugh. And Ward does say June Darlin’ quite often I must say. I now watch the show for a totally different reason now and laugh the entire way through.
CP – We have what we call intentional mistakes. They are mistakes we make on purpose in order to see if the students are paying attention, and it makes critical thinking a little higher. We mostly use it for math, but I figure if I ever spell either the wrong way, I will just use that as my justification. I think most people would probably read right over it because our brain reads it as either every time. However, those of us who are Dodger fans probably don’t see it that way at all. I think Ethier every time.
As far as players – I guess we will have 118 days to talk about it. As far as Abreu, now I remember the surgery, but it’s like he dropped of the face of the Dodger Planet.
Oh, and eric. Sorry you have to put up with that kind of trash talking at your work. I’m just glad that some others stepped in on your behalf.
Yeah Nelly, Abreu has dropped off the Dodgers’ radar, huh? Well, injuries are injuries and unfortunately, some have to endure more than others. I just REALLY wished that we had brought up DeJesus during the September call-ups, just to see what we have. Spring Training, I would think, is a hard time of the year to judge an up-and-coming talent. Oh well, what do I know. I’m just a fan.
Ward Dear… that’s good to hear about your co-worker. I am glad to see you may have worked it out. Sorry to hear about your wife.
Everything’s cool now, cp. I learned a long time ago that the one who suffers most from carrying a grudge is you, not the one you’re angry with. It’s yesterday’s news. The ‘sensitivity class’ thing might actually happen though. LOL! Just wasting more of the company’s time.
Reading about McCourt wishing that he could get a refund from Jones recalls Lyman Bostock. Anyone remember this? Wanna talk character?
http://articles.latimes.com/2008/apr/22/sports/sp-crowe22
CP ~ We are not just fans. We are fans in the know. I would say we are more informed than a lot of fans. If they were as well informed as we are, they wouldn’t be leaving the games early. Hell, we think Eric can run the whole show.
Boy Eric – if a few of our Dodgers thought that way, we really could afford Manny. “Here I am not performing worth crap this season so I will give part of my salary to the Manny fund.”
you ~ senstitivity classes? I thought you were joking. I can just send a few student letters your boss’ way.
red pen – “sensitivity”
As I mentioned in my blog today (Words From The Park), it was disappointing that the Dodgers were eliminated in the LCS, but that is also the reason why the season was so great – they were eliminated in the LCS! Usually they are eliminated during the regular season or if it’s a good year, by being swept in the Division Series. But this year it took a tough NLCS matchup to send them packing.
For once, the Dodgers were one of the final four teams playing on national television in the middle of October. This talented, young team is only going to get better, even if Manny isn’t a part of it. The Dodgers are on their way to becoming the team to beat in the National League. This trip to the playoffs was just a taste of some of the exciting years to come.
Wow Eric. Personally, no I don’t remember this case. Again, I was not an Angel fan at the time, but I just don’t remember this. You think I would remember hearing something about this, but I don’t. I am just dumb-founded about all that transpired that entire year.
And Nelly, yes we are not your typical fans that just like to go to see the games. We ARE knowledgeable fans.
And if Eric runs the entire Dodger show, Eric, can I be an honorary bat girl??? I’ve always wanted to do that!!! 🙂
hello 🙂
in no way do i think a kemp for peavy trade would be a good move. never.
¿Que pasa ITD?
I’m good. Looking forward to Spring Training. I’m looking forward to the HSL: Hot Stove League! It’s great reading Sportswriters talk themselves in circles, taking any randomly said tidbit at a lunch counter and posting it as an ESPN headline within 20 minutes.
Juan Pierre deserves a trade. He’s never going to be happy here, and he could start for another team. I think he shouldn’t be too bitter, though, he’s still making his money, and I doubt any other team he’d be on would’ve gotten this far. Had he been with the Giants, he’d be collecting dust for a good 2 and a half weeks by now.
nsb, it doesn’t even seem like juan cares about being on a winner.. he just cares about playing everyday in centerfield.. selfish
Yes Park!!! Our boys have A LOT to be proud of!!! Yes, there were ups and downs, but they got to the NLCS!!! That is a huge accomplishment. Yes, as competitors, most if not all of them wanted to go all the way and win the whole enchilada, but I say, everything this team went thru this year (especially our Young Gun Dynasty), they will be so much better in 2009!!!
i stopped in last night.. wanted to chat a bit.. but dnelly and others were fighting off some powerful moons.. i was cracking up at every mention of a red pen.. oh and dodgereric, your status on facebook is hilarious 🙂
Hey NSB & Sara!!! How ya doing!!!
Whoa, nelly! You should read my personnel file! LMAO!! There are really two different people in there!
cp, no. You can’t be honorary bat girl. You can be the HEAD bat girl!!!
Good evening nsblues – working on your spanish tonight? What are we reading these days?
sara – JP deserves a trade, and we deserve better too.
Wow Eric! I’m the HEAD bat girl!?! That’s great!!! At least if I’m the HEAD bat girl, I’ll be able to spend quality time with my boys!!!
north and sara, welcome to Late Night ITD!
sara, it is? I tell ya, I’m mostly lost on that thing.
hi cpompe!
yes dnelly i agree. he deserves a trade and we deserve to rid ourselves of him.. but i’m just not sure his contract is tradable.. all i know is, when andre writes on his blog and says he’s not sure he’ll be here because we have too many outfielders.. it sickens me to think that he’s worried about jones or pierre.. he should NEVER have to worry about jones or pierre.. but because of all he’s been through, and the things management does randomly, he has to worry.. so sad for andre..
LMAO!!!!!! oh Eric – you are too funny!!!! LMAO!!!!
Hey CP – I get to be team mom. I called it first.
Well, it’s been fun. But I’m getting tired. I’ll catch up with y’all tomorrow…
Eric – you still haven’t figured out what that means? LMAO!!!!!!!
eric, yup it is.. it’s a direct quote from one of the moons 🙂 and it’s HILARIOUS
Good Night CP!!! It’s been fun talking to you…. get some rest and take care of your shoulder. Oh, and we will be praying about that job.
Yeah cp, that’s why I’m so friggin’ brilliant! You get the uni, you get to be in charge of hiring all the eye-candy batboys you want, and you can sit down on the bench when you feel like it to find out what the Captain’s favorite color is…..:-)
sara – that is too funny. Ever time I see it, it just cracks me up. I figure if anyone can figure it out, Eric or jhall could, but I guess not. LOL!!!!!!
night cpompe!!
dnelly, it really is too funny.. i don’t even think he would be able to read back and understand what he himself typed out..
OK, I just went on over there and I see what you’re talking about. LMAO!!! I didn’t really know that’s where it would end up, but I tell ya, I’m never taking it off!!!
sara – you are probably right!! It’s just funny to see Eric completely stumped. I always am with what he says most of the time, but when Eric can’t figure it out, it really is way out there.
yes, you should definitely leave it forever.. because no matter how many times i see it, i know it will never fail to bring a smile to my face 🙂
Goodnight CP. Sara, I agree that we shouldn’t trade any of the young guys for Peavy. I hope they can find a buyer for JP too. It seems unfair that the Dodgers can’t deduct some of the 18 million they still owe Jones. If he came into spring training in great shape and worked his butt off all season it would be one thing, but he didn’t.
LMAO!!!! I don’t think you should take it off either unless you figure out what it means, which may take – forever!!!
Sara – it more like laughing hysterically everytime I see it. How hilarious is that!?!
red pen – “it’s”
Glad to be here Eric! (should we steal the Merv Griffith Show set for this like Kramer did on Seinfeld?)
I’d hate to see Peavy traded here for many reasons, but the main one being that we’ve already been down the road of getting a rival pitcher who kills us every start, and is coming off a DL stint. Shouldn’t we have learned by now that Schmidt Happens?
Dnelly, I’m doing good. Still reading WHite Noise by Don Delillo, and will soon be reading All The Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy. and for Shakespeare I’m finishing Twelfth Night (Probably my favorite comedy by him) and have to start on Titus Andronicus: The Baby Chef. Also writing a paper about a psychiactric journal writers opinion that One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’s characters fall into Old West archetypes, and I’ll have to find quotes to support either my agreeance with or disagreeance with the article.
Actually, I’m doing none of that right now, I’m finishing up some Taco Bell, and about to enjoy a Friday Night Corona w/lime. I figure I’ll have a lot of time over the weekend to do that stuff 🙂
Goodnight cp and hello bluecrewGIRL!
sara and Junie, I’m imagining the FBI and the CIA spending hundreds of man-hours trying to decode it. “No, no, NO!! It CAN’T be gibberish! It has to be a coded terrorist message!”
wow, looks like I’m gonna have to hook you all up with my facebook just so I know what the message is, heheheh.
I know I still have umbrellas on the roof fending off all the showers from the baby angels I’ve scared with my “game comments” over the past week.
bluecrewgirl, i completely agree. our young core needs to stay together, i wouldn’t trade them for almost anyone.. pierre is a question mark. they’ll clearly work to try and trade him, but i’m sure they did last off-season too.. at least another year is gone from the horrendous contract, so it gets slightly more managable for a trade each year.. jones is a idiot. you’re under contract. you leave and don’t support your teammates in the postseason. and now you want to complain and say it’s because the fans have booed you all season. well then walk away from the contract. but no, he knows he can’t get any money from another team, so he’s going to just sulk 😛
hilarious dnelly, just hilarious.. it’s funny because when he posted it, i was like what the heck does that mean?? and then i saw it again on eric’s facebook and just cracked up..
nsb, you definitely MUST check it out.. it’s worth the effort, i promise..
eric, you’re cracking me up.. gibberish!! no it’s CAN’T BE!!
oops, red pen = IT can’t be.. not it’s
nsblues – I know exactly how you feel. I have report cards calling my name, but they can certainly wait until tomorrow. Also, I didn’t have Taco Bell and a Corona, but I had steak and a fun drink, and now I am home drinking Starbucks.
Ward Dear…. just too damn funny!!!! LOL!!! Just thinking about it is just hilarious.
nsb, i have an article write up and a paper both due wednesday, and i just can’t gear up to do either.. i’ve been lazy all day.. lazy lazy lazy 😦
nsblues – weren’t you having problems with it’s and its the other day?
Ward Dear…. I can’t get that phrase out of my head, but I don’t even know how to pronounce it. LMAO!!!!!
Pre-requisite Dodgers topic:
So, what do you think the Pitching Coach situation is? Do you think Torre sticks with Honeycutt, or do you think he wants his own guy in there?
Oooh, a steak and a fun drink? A Taco Bell and a Corona? I had a carne asada nachos and a diet Coke.
north, I can’t even get through reading your reading list! Mongo impressed!
I give up. What’s a fun drink? Does it come with a parasol and a rubberband gun?
Sara, lazy can be good, though 🙂 I’m not procrastinating too much, but I’m just calling it a “Sanity night”. Plus, if I don’t mess around on the computer, how else am I gonna figure out this Vista stuff?
fun drink = anything with alcohol
haha 🙂
ooh vista.. tough project nsb..
oh and about honeycutt.. it’s a good question.. he’s definitely had some bad moments.. he doesn’t seem to calm the pitchers down when he talks to him.. but the question is.. who else is available?
I think that Honeycutt has been stealing money all season. I think Mattingly has been a plus, so yeah. Sayonara Rick! I wonder if Maddux would consider being a player/coach. I think Wally mentioned that earlier. Has that ever been done before? Most likely, but I can’t think of a player/pitching coach off the top of my head.
We went to “Cool Hand Lukes” and the drink is called “The Showdown” a mixed drink in a very tall glass. Trublue went too, along with my sister. The main flavor was Mango, but it was pretty strong. I had mexican food for lunch today with my working buddies (fish tacos)- no margarita even though we all wish we could have one.
Northstate, I always liked school, but it is hard sometimes to get motivated. I could have been a professional student though. I’d much rather do homework than my job. Good luck with all your projects.
Hey to you too, Eric. Hope you are doing well.
maddux would be a good choice. the question is whether he is interested in the job..
Pierre deserves a trade like I deserve his 44 million bucks. Just had to get it in there Nelly (if they all made 100k with performance bonus then he deserves a trade)…Kemp and Ethier deserve for Pierre to be traded so they can focus on 162 games.. .. Pierre gets 17k a week. That’s his check. It is signed by Frank McCourt there on the bottom. Good Night all LOL
—
Oh BTW I won’t be quitting until
1/ Pierre (or Jones) is traded. And if it is Jones then I still want Pierre traded. So both off roster..
2/we sign Manny or trade for Puljos (or someone of that nature-and there are very few of that nature).
3/we get a frontline (ace) starter
4/ in lieu of any of that, were 10 games over .500 and in first place at all star break (then i’ll just hush cause winning is winning)
Ah, alcohol. I remember that stuff……..
north, just use the dodgereric method. Keep pushing buttons until you get what you want. LOL!!!
Would love Maddux in that role. That would be fabulous!!
nsblues – I love the name “Sanity Night” – perfectly discribes Friday nights for me.
Eric, the reading’s brutal. There’s been two books I’ve been required to read that I otherwise would’ve taken in to be exchanged after reading a couple of chapters. I guess if I eventually want to teach literature, though, I’d better be able to read anything and everything, though.
oh yeah, if anyone wants to add me on facebook, it’s mercurysolo [(at)] gmail [(dot)] com . same for myspace too.
I agree with you guys. I think Maddux would be a great pitching coach.
jungar – you got me on that one – LOL!! What was I thinking? – LOL!!!!! I know – I wasn’t 🙂
did you guys read the maddux quotes about being the pitcher when raffy committed the 3 errors in one inning? he didn’t blame raffy much at all, and instead complimented his work ethic to make it back and play.. and just talked about what a great player he is in general.. that’s what i call a great teammate and would be a great coach..
north, I just added you (I think)
jungar, you’re not fooling anyone. You’re waaaay too passionate to quit! LOL!!
sara, I love to hear stuff like that! Thanks for sharing it!
here’s what i’m referencing:
When asked about Rafael Furcal’s three errors — the ones that turned a 3-0 Phillies lead into a 5-0 lead — he called it “bad timing” but went out of his way to praise Furcal’s dedication, coming back from back surgery in May to get ready for the postseason.
“You can count on one hand the number of guys in the league who would do what he did to get himself back in time.
“Furky is awesome. It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen a teammate do. Hey, everyone misses a ball. I’m just very impressed by what he did.”
nsblues – just added you 🙂
i read some other maddux quotes too.. but anyway.. basically an all-around great guy and teammate..
nsb, i just added you too..
I didn’t read that Sara, but that’s cool. I was listening to Vin that day (I was beyond fed up with Joe ******* and Tim HackCarver), and didn’t hear the booing the papers were writing about, but that’s sad if that’s the way it happened.
In other news, Fox News ruined the lives of many a Queens youngster on the 15th, they decapitated Mr. Met on air.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO-CtHwkKas
Thanks for the adds
eric, i love that you’re so unsure of your facebook 🙂
sara – I keep telling him it’s fine.
nsb, i was there.. and there was definitely booing. people were booing chad when he was struggling.. i was so mad, i’m like how is booing him going to improve him right now?? and then there was booing for furcal too..
WOW! It just censored s+c+h+m+u+c+k !!!
I just heard on the news that the Red Sox players just voted Manny a 2/3rds share of their playoff money. Correct me if I’m wrong, but they didn’t have to do that, right? And if they didn’t have to do that, then they can’t really despise him so much can they? I’m just askin’……
Wait a light just went on. I was sorta like not caring either way about Furcal..But after reading this stuff…if we don’t resign him maybe they will have Pierre lead off. I’m on board the sign Raffy train now.
Eric, I don’t think most of them dislike him, plus when Ortiz was out with his injury, they would have been screwed without Manny and I think they know that.
That’s a shame, sara. I hated hearing the boos for Jones when I went. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t like his performance at all, but they booed Druw more loudly than all the other teams’ guys combined. And it was a Giants game!
I wasn’t happy with losing the NLCS, but I’m very happy with the season we’ve had. Maybe those booing fans should go back to leaving in the 7th.
Eric – there are quite a few RedSox fans at our school – parents, teachers, friends, students, and they all loved Manny. They actually were cheering the Dodgers on as their NL team because they wanted us both to be in the World Series.
sara, I’m just about totally lost on that thing for some reason. I swear, I feel stupid, like I couldn’t spell ‘cat’ if you spotted me the ‘c’ and the ‘t’.
Regarding booing, all that proves is that there are a lot of people at the games that aren’t real fans. No one gets more upset at losing than I do, but I never boo the Dodgers at the Stadium. I’ll scream at my TV every now and then, but the boys can’t hear me. I’m 100 miles away.
DNelly, my parents are Red Sox fans and they still like Manny too.
Eric – everything you are doing is good. The hardest part for me was adding pictures. Once I figured that out, everything became easy.
Gee, so you’re saying it might be a media thing? Oooooo…….
neyiuy ouiece… isn’t that a city in Iceland?
LMAO!!
eric, not voting him a share is not an option.. they voted 2/3 of a share because he was with them 2/3 of the season.. but it sounds like a split vote. i personally do believe that his ex-teammates hate him. at least many of them do. here’s the article on it:
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view.bg?articleid=1126142
Now now north, don’t go trying too hard to figure it out. It’s like knowing how the magic trick is done.
i agree about the booing.. it’s tragic.. i remember when broxton blew a game in SD a couple years ago giving up like 5 runs or something.. and DAYS later when the team returned to the stadium he got booed in his first appearance.. some fans are just ignorant.. one of my co-workers tried to tell me that it builds character.. i told him he’s an idiot
This will be our off-season quest: figure out what “neyiuy ouiece” actually means. LMAO!!!!!!!!!
I think it sad that fans would boo the team, especially in such an important game and after they accomplished so much.
maybe sara needs sensitivity training too. LOL!!!!!
yeah bluecrewgirl.. but we’re talking about a lot of people who don’t necessarily see the bigger picture.. but rather the what have you done for me lately..
sara, I laughed so hard at your last sentence that my laptop almost left my lap!! LMLO!!
I read the article and it seems you’re right. Honestly, I feel like a hypocrite on this issue and I probably won’t resolve it until he leaves.
dnelly, maybe i do.. haha.. but i was frustrated when he tries to explain how booing a 22 year old making league minimum makes any sense at all.. and that he explains how he could never boo someone like nomar who has accomplished SO much during his career even though it’s pre-dodgers.. this conversation happened when nomar was REALLY struggling last season.. i really wanted to ask him if it was opposite day..
Wonder no longer, I’ve found the answer:
See, told you!
As much as I couldn’t stand JP playing instead of Andre when Manny first came that weekend in August, I still couldn’t boo. Same goes for Andruw – couldn’t do it, and the same went for Sweeney. It’s different when you are sitting at home. At home, hopefully the team doesn’t hear me, but there, you are representing the Dodgers and the fans should be the 10th man.
eric, i understand your internal conflicts.. i feel like i am the only one who has felt the same way about him prior to getting him and now.. i’m not saying that he wasn’t good for the team.. i’m just saying that i can never support the guy..
sara – not really – it takes guts to call someone an idiot to their face – LOL!!!! I applaud you 🙂 Boy, what I would give to call a few parents I have had to deal with idiots. Not at all this year, but in years past.
haha yeah.. it wasn’t nice to do it.. but we argue about dodgers all the time.. and if you wonder how two die hard dodgers fans can argue about their team.. trust me, it can happen.. let’s just say that his dodgers team is a lot older than my dodgers team 🙂
nsblues – it even makes less sense now that we know what it is because if you try to put it in the sentence, it’s even more ridiculous. LMAO!!!!!! It certainly doesn’t make me laugh any less that’s for sure.
nsb, wait.. so i see you figured out one part.. but does that mean the entire statement makes sense??
Or is this it?
http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n156/MercurySolo/manymoons.jpg
The world may never know…
Excellent, north!!!!
I “Googled” it, and it came back, “Did you mean ‘iuy ouiece’?” So I thought, nah….that can’t mean anything either, can it? So I clicked on that. No. Nothing. Makes you wonder how that Google thing works.
You stick to your beliefs, sara. Now THAT builds character!
Maybe we have been looking at it all wrong. Maybe he’s a genius and we are all the idiots. just a thought….. na, nevermind..LOL!!!!!
oh too funny eric.. i googled it too and the same thing came up for me!!
nsblues – now that explains it!!!!!!
at this point eric, nothing will ever happen to change my mind.. i will stick to my beliefs..
Well now that’s just GREAT! Oh well, that poor cat’s been in that bag for a long time I guess……….
Good for you Sara!!!!
What bag, Eric? I was just showing the names of the characters in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. No harm in that, right?
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!
Awwwwwww, I’m so dumb!! What was I thinking about????
haha.. you guys are all hilarious
“Leave It to Beaver” is on at 12:30
All I know is if I’m going to do any booing, it’s not directed at any of the players on the team I’m rooting for. My favorite was the game where we sat field level by the foul pole, by the Padres’ bullpen. Me, my sister and brother, the three of us having a couple of beers each, would give their pitchers hell as they trotted out of the pen.
I could tell some of the surrounding people were thinking we got lost on the way to the Pavilion, heh.
Is it wrong to think Eddie Haskell is funny?
I’ll talk to you all later. Take care. Tomorrow I’m going to an open house they’re having at the new Citizen’s Bank Arena in Ontario with a friend. It should be pretty cool. It’s going to be for a minor league team of the LA Kings, but they’re also going to have concerts. They’ve already booked a couple of country acts and Metallica.
I think he is funny!!!
Sounds fun bluecrewgirl – Good night and have fun tomorrow.
bluecrewgirl, sounds like fun.. good night!
i’m gone too. good night everyone!
Have fun, bluecrewgirl! try to avoid the traffic around Haven Avenue on the 10… if one thing never fails, it’s that there’s traffic by Haven Avenue exit on the 10
Good night Sara!!!
Actually, ns I’m lucky I only live about 10 minutes from the arena, so I don’t have to get on the freeway. Goodnight and happy studying.
Good night Sara! Here’s hoping the Trojans beat the Cougars… or the Huskies… I’m not sure, because Washington schools are usually irrelevant in football!
nsb, it’s the cougars.. we play the huskies at home in a few weeks.. it doesn’t matter either way.. we’ll beat both teams.. alright, good night for real!
bluecrewGIRL, that’s so cool! I’ve been a Kings fan since the Triple Crown Line days. A friend of mine has a son who works in the Reign’s ticket office. We plan on making a few games this season. (Kings won in OT tonight)
Did Matt have a game yesterday?
Goodnight bluecrewGIRL and sara and God Bless!
Well, we’re up to 600 posts on this one!
Yeah Deb, he did. Another ‘character builder’! At least this one was close. We lost 5-3. We scored the first goal and the last three. The in-between stuff killed us. They forget to play defense for long stretches and Matt gets like………..have you seen “Slapshot”? The goalie goes into the locker room early on and sees imaginary pucks flying everywhere around him.
How ’bout Michael?
Sorry about the game. We have plenty of those games too, and when your son is the pitcher with all the defensive errors, it makes it difficult to watch at times. He tends to do okay, but other pitchers need all the help they can get. It’s probably why I am such a proponent of defensive outfielders (not JP’s). I have seen “Slap Shot”, but haven’t seen it for a long time. I watched it as a teenager, I believe, and Bill watches it when it’s been on in the past.
Michael’s only game was Monday this week. Wednesday’s game got cancelled. Merced College’s field (where they play every week) was being worked on. At the time it was a good thing because I was able to go home and watch the baseball game, and not so good because we lost.
Young Eddie is on.. young Wally too – LOL!!!! This show makes me laugh now.. LOL!!!!
Wally is joining the Boy Scouts! This should be interesting!
Ward Dear… we play these parts almost too well. LMAO!!!! It’s a little scary… LMAO!!!!!
I went with my youth group in church as a teenager in the back of a pickup truck from West Covina to Redding and back. About 12 of us. Try doing that now! LOL!!
Frank Calliendo’s William Shatner is hilarious!
I tell you what, jhall and enchanted have their roles down pat!!!!
Don’t they? OMG!!!!!!
West Covina to Redding – wow!!! Can’t even go across town now.
Sounds funny. I’m not getting the show, though, just the Huxtables on TV Land and the Winslows on Nick at Nite (Family Matters).
Yeah, our adult leaders had friends up there and they were leaders of the youth group in their church. We met them all up there and had a good time swimming in some river. The ride back was long and cold. We had a few blankets and I spent most of the way back playing ‘footsie’ with one of the girls. Shameful!
We have the Beav on TV Land down here in SoCal, north! Funny that you don’t!
Wow, that old dude is ancient there in ’58! He was all over TV for years after this.
Oh Ward Dear…. LOL!!!!
nsblues – strange because this is TVLand- hmmmm
Poor Beav is lost without Wally…. sad 😦
Beav spent most of his day talking to a man in a hole. LMAO!!!!!
That was funny. We at Troop 148 believe that it’s not really a campout unless it rains, snows or is 110 degrees!
Speaking of which, I better hit the rack. Our boys are leaving for their campout at 6:30 tomor…….in 5 1/2 hours. They’re trying to earn their Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. I’m not going with them, Matt and I did that one 5 years ago. But I’m the Trip Coordinator and I have all the Permission Slips and Medical forms and the maps and the Tour Permit, etc etc. They can’t leave without me whether I go with or not.
Good night and God Bless June Darlin’ and north! Talk with you later! neyiuy ouiece!
Good Night Ward Dear….. and nsblues…. a pleasure as always. good night and God Bless to both of you and anyone one else who may be reading.
arayd ~ Fabulous song!!!! Very Impressed!! Is that your first song?
Good Morning ITD writers and readers!!!
Looks like it might rain here in the Central Valley. I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday.
Good morning!
Great song arayd!
So, Yahoo Movies came out with an all-time movie baseball team. Um, check it out:
C Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) – Bull Durham
SP Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) – Major League
RP Jimmy Morris (Dennis Quaid) – The Rookie
1B Lou Gehrig (Gary Cooper) – The Pride of the Yankees
2B Jackie Robinson (Jackie Robinson) – The Jackie Robinson Story
SS Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez (Mike Vitar) – The Sandlot
3B Doris Murphy (Rosie O’Donnell) – A League of Their Own
LF “Shoeless” Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta) – Field of Dreams
CF Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes) – The Fan
RF Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) – The Natural
DH Stan Ross (Bernie Mac) – Mr. 3000 [the t-bAll League needs love too, I guess]
Manager: Morris Buttermaker (Billy Bo… Just kidding! Walter Matthau, of course!) – The Bad News Bears
One change I would make: If we’re letting Jackie Robinson on the team because he played himself in his movie (and I’m DEFINITELY not complaining about that!), why not get that Barry Bonds wannabe Bobby Rayburn outta Centerfield and put in the guy who one ITDer mentioned played himself in all the movies he appeared in: Babe Ruth.
Who would play center than, between the Babe, Shoeless Joe and Roy Hobbs? I’ll let Buttermaker figure that one out.
That one ITDer would be Dodgereric, of course. That was one of our ITD Late Night movies we were watching, I believe the title was “Coming Home.” No other 3rd baseman, huh? Rosie was my least favorite character in that Movie, but I guess if you are talking baseball, I guess it’s okay. Didn’t Roger Dorn (Major League) play 3rd base? He was a a**hole, but played well when it counted. Also, it seems they were trying to get characters from many movies. There aren’t any repeats of movie titles. I like how they got a “Sandlot” character in there. That is still a fun movie to watch. Good fun movie about just the love of the game. Fun stuff nsblues!!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
yeah 1st song
great season guys
a little short but it’s a process
we’re building and have a great core
hopefully all the money freed up $$$ we have will be spent wisely 1. Bullpen 2. SP’s 3. Manny 4. SS and 2b or 3b
i enjoyed talking to all of you, i’m gonna take abreak
LET’S GO DODGERS
clap clap
CLAPCLAPCLAP
i’ll check in around the winter meetings
a break? This is the fun time (well all of it’s fun to me) especially now that you are a songwriter. Okay, if you must take a break, enjoy it, and we will see you back here when winter meetings begin.
I would trade both pierre and jones and trade for peavy. i would resign manny and sign joe crede and let casey blake go. I would resign penny and let lowe go. offensively we would look alot like the last two months of the season except better because our young guys would be improving. Our pitching staff would be peavy, billz, kersh, kuroda, penny/mcdonald. I think next years team would be better than this past years!
Hi Swood,
I see you would trade Pierre and Jones for Peavy.
Who wouldn’t?
Hey joepierre/PierreEW ~ How are things on the east coast? If that is even possible, I would trade Pierre and Jones for Peavy in a heart beat. I am not exactly counting on that one though.
I came across a story on Yankee memorabilia. And look who was quoted at the bottom of the story. A friend of ours here at ITD.
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/27253778/
alex ~ wow! JoePierre was the lucky guy. Congratulations PierreEW!
.
alex ~ I don’t recognize your name……..did your name get switched like so many others have? Anyway, nice to meet you!
Hey guys and guyettes!
I read what swood posted and after reading it a couple times, I don’t think swood’s saying he’d trade Pierre and Jones for Peavy, I think he’s saying he’d trade Pierre and Jones to someone, and also make a trade to get Peavy.
Well, that was a nice suprise!!! Good Job Joe Pierre!!!
Hey Alex!!! It’s good to see you? Where have you been?
Hey Beav/Enchanted!! Okay – now that you put it that way, makes a lot more sense. That would have been too good to be true. How are you doing this evening?
nellyae ~ who’s Alex?
.
.
enchanted ~ good evening, sir.
He was a regular a while back. I am not sure how far back, but obviously before you started posting.
Alex is in the houuuseee!
.
Where have you been hiding Alex! We miss you here!
.
Congrats to Joe P! Gettin’ in the news. You gotta love that. That must of been fun to be able to go & se that stuff.
.
I’ve got to go. I hope all is well with everybody. It looks as if I missed some lively discussion the other night!
.
Go Blue!!!!
enchanted ~ I want it all………CC, Manny and no Pierre and Jones………I want Frank to break the bank! If the Yankees can buy a team why can’t we?
Doing well Nells – how’s you? Finally gave up on trying to find something to watch on the tube.
Hi TruMoM, DC & Alex!! And congrats Joe Pierre!! That’s pretty cool!!
enchanted ~ You oughta catch an episode of “Leave it to Beaver.” Eric and I were saying how you and jhall have those roles down so well, it’s scary. I was laughing so hard, I was crying. Beav was lost without his big brother around.
I was looking back to see if I could pin point a time frame for trublue when Alex was posting, and it’s fun reading the old stuff from a year ago. I wasn’t posting then, but I remember reading. The funny thing, it’s the same talk – pitching, 3rd base and the outfield. Amazing how nothing much has changed other than it’s much more funny now. You guys were pretty straight forward back then. Much longer posts back then too.
I am doing good. It’s been a very relaxing day, but I got a lot accomplished too (school work – report cards, etc.)
Hey dc – thanks for stopping by 🙂
Oh, June Darlin’, I’m home!
Welcome aboard Andruw.
By dodgerdude17@yahoo.com on December 11, 2007 5:02 PM
Going back in time. On this day, Andruw passed his physical.
Good Evening Ward Dear…. How are you this evening. Did you get your boys off on their trip?
I was in my car driving home tonight and this song came on my ipod. I thought about how it’s exactly how I
(and we) feel about the Dodgers and this post season situation.
.
“Goodnight” by Kanye West
These are only partial lyrics, not the whole song.
.
I don’t wanna say goodbye to you
So I’ll just say good night to you
My people, no goodbyes to you
I’m just gonna say good night
.
If I part my heart will live through you
Dream beautiful and unusual
Wake up like everyday new to you
Stay true to you, a hood musical
My art will live through you
Dream beautiful and unusual
Wake up like everyday new to you
Stay true to you, a hood musical
.
.
Just wanted to share and set the tone for tonight. We aren’t saying goodbye to these guys, just a little goodnight and we’ll see them again soon 🙂
“We can’t dwell on the past all we got is today
So I’ma live like there’s no tomorrow
No goodbye! ”
.
A quote to live by!
Hey Amy/poplegend!!!! Good to see you, and thanks for the song. Great song by the way. How are you doing? Hopefully feeling better 🙂
This going back in time stuff is now funny – LOL!!!!!!
Nelly 🙂 today I am much better. this week had been so difficult to get through. It wasn’t a good week for my Disneyland trip and the playoffs to happen at the same time. I’m finally on my feet and on solid food.
.
yea. I thought the song would be good to share.
.
how’s everyone today? Still really quiet around here?
nellyae ~ if you are going back in time, maybe you can zap oberon and make him disappear! lol
.
.
Amy ~ good to see you. I hope you are feeling better, too.
Although I’m hardly an authority on long-time posters here, alex provided play-by-play during spring training games to us here on ITD. I for one was deeply grateful. Welcome back in, alex! I have no idea where you live, but are you planning on doing that again in AZ?
Sorry, but Wild Thing was like Gagne, a bust as a starter and dynamite as a reliever.
Very cool getting published PierreEMW!!! Too bad I don’t have an extra million or two hanging around. Looks like I coulda had some deals.
Yep, got those kids off safe and sound. Right about now they should be hunkering down in their makeshift tents that they make out of pieces of parachutes.
Nice song ayard! You’re immortalized on our site!
amy, is that song you posted something you did? Or are the lyrics unchanged but applicable to your feelings?
Tru- I’m so much better. My goodness. It was pretty terrible for a while. Today I washed my life. My bedding, towels, clothes, and sadly…my dodger shirts. Had to wash # 27 for the last time this season. but it’s all good. I can’t wait to get into the clean bed tonight.
trublue – haven’t gotten that far.
ETHIER LEFT FIELD
JONES CENTER FIELD
KEMP RIGHT FIELD
PIERRE NOT ON OUR FIELD!
By alex41592@aol.com on December 6, 2007 12:44 AM
This was Alex’s famous saying, similar to Scott and Eric’s Fire Ned…..
It’s amazing the talk is all about trading JP, and what are we talking about now – trading JP.
eric- the lyrics are just as he wrote them. No changes. I posted it because I felt it matched all of our feelings 🙂
amy ~ I put all of my Dodger clothing away too. I did keep my Dodger pajamas, though. Have to hang on to something for a while. Next season, I have to add Matt’s shirt to my collection. I know he will be back……….Frank just said he wants to keep his young players together.
I can’t believe you put your Dodger stuff away. I tend to wear it all year long. Plus, it’s a permanent fixture in my classroom.
Thanks for the update Josh. Sounds like a wonderful day.
By edwcarter@gmail.com on December 4, 2007 6:33 AM
Not that it matters, but apparently it did the other night. It looks like Edwcarter was around before Shad was.
I still don’t believe just how bad Andruw was. We were all pretty much thinking that he couldn’t do any worse than he did in ’07, and even those numbers we would’ve accepted. He was without a doubt the worst player I’ve ever seen. Maybe if he refuses to play in L.A. next season Frank can get his money back for breach of contract.
Hey Amy, glad you’re feeling better.
I have to concentrate on USC football and then UCLA basketball when they start. I still have a thermal Dodger shirt for winter.
Ward Dear….. you were just Eric back in those days, no dodgereric?
tru/ nelly- my clothes aren’t really ‘away’ as they are in my dresser folded nicely. But I’m not sure if they will be making any more appearances this season. It’s always fun to take them out in the spring time and then buy new ones 🙂 And I also have my Dodger Pj’s out, except they are long pants and in SoCal it’s still around 70 degrees outside. Not quite pants weather for bed 😦
enchanted ~ Andruw was awful the last year he was in Atlanta. Every time he’d swing the bat, he would almost fall down. Even the Braves announcers said his abilities had diminshed. They hoped he’d straighten things out, but he never did. So, what the heck was Ned thinking, to sign him!
nellly- going back to the old days of posting. I still remember my first day posting here and I can’t believe that’s it’s 7 months later. As much fun that we had here (and all the crap we put up with) the time really did fly by! My goodness. I hope the pass the year mark myself. I feel like you guys are the people I belong with in my Dodger world.
.
Enchanted/favorite eye shadow- thanks. I’m glad my week of hell has ended so I can move on to happier times 🙂
btw- how much time do you think it’ll take before Josh ever posts again??
ndeschenes is from Canada 🙂
It has been a long time since I posted from Montreal,Canada. I just wanted to say, I hope Superman Jeff Kent plays another year for the Beloved Los Angeles Dodgers!Hopefully, the boys can make all the right moves in the off season and bring home the World Series in 2008. But, it just wouldn’t be the same without Superman Jeff Kent.I just want to say as a Canadian, we have the best neighbours in the world south of the border in the United States of America!
By ndeschenes@securenet.net on December 4, 2007 6:47 PM
That was my thought too Tru. How could Ned see what he looked like – way overweight and out of shape, then still buy Boras’ and Druw’s snake oil pitch that he’d play better a little heavier? Presumably too, a golfball size wart doesn’t show up behind one’s knee overnight – how was that missed during his physical?
I thought I remembered ndeschenes being from Canada. Seems to me at one time we had a poster from France (once or twice) also.
Whatever happened to Rod from down under?
enchanted ~ well said!! lol I watched him all season when he was in Atlanta, that’s when Ted Turner owned the Braves, and they were on all the time. He had the same attitude there as he had with us……..not giving a damn. When I heard we had signed him, I remember saying what the &%*&! Of all the players out there, why him?!
trublue – you were post 666 – LOL!!!
nellyae ~ I noticed that! Am I lucky, or what?! lol
Ain’t that a helluva note!!!
enchanted…… and redfox and puppyhead too. Those were the days when kpookimon was Kahlifoni and porklinks was old fogey. Miketink made his first appearance in December too, along with dc’s first post on the 3rd.
Can’t remember if my first post was in December or January.
enchanted ~I will look but you were all over the place in December – hmmm – I’m thinking November. I am assuming Eric was December but as Eric, not Dodgereric. I am sure he knows when he started (date and time included – LOL) jhall was everywhere in December, along with jungar, alex, and swood to name a few. ( including redfox and puppyhead)
I’m having some MAJOR connectivity issues tonight for some reason. PITA!
amy, so glad you’re feeling better. My daughter got like that 2 years ago, mostly from ‘burning the candle at both ends’. Wore herself completely down and ended up getting, of all things, Legionaires’ Disease. You’ve probably never heard of it, but Google it. Serious stuff. BTW, looks like our Trojans had a tough time today.
Junie, yeah. Like just about everyone else it was my email address. If I remember correctly, the site was having some major issues and I started doing the ol’ dodgereric method of getting what you want on the PC, just frantically pushing buttons. I ended up with this name and no address, which I thought was a win/win for me!
Josh might be taking a well-earned long weekend amy.
I’ve been remiss in not saying hello to the Beaver! Hi Beav! I think Ned either bought a pig-in-a-poke with the Jones deal, or he had a lot of faith in some rabbit’s foot.
Hey Eric! I must have missed you being on tonight somewhere along the line.
Doesn’t seem like I’ve been here that long Nells, but you’re probably right.
This would be Dodgeric’s first post on December 4th
I’m another newcomer to this blogging thing. I’ve been reading this one for a few days now and have been impressed by a lot of you as good Dodger fans. I’ve been a baseball junkie in general for almost 50 years and have bled Dodger Blue the whole time. I love to watch the kids come up thru the minors, so I tend to agree with all of you who don’t want our team to shred the kids and overpay in panic to improve.
Here’s something I just read on the Sporting News website:
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=313953
We’re not alone out there.
Not in November enchanted so it must be in December somewhere.
enchanted, I have always been under the impression that you’ve been here a long time.
Nelly, you’d think that an anal character like me would know when I started posting, but I don’t. I know that I first went on a blog site during our hellish fire season last October to get some real-time info on friends in Fallbrook. Sometime after that I started cruising Dodger sites for hot-stove info. I was like most of us I think, in that I observed for a while before daring to contribute. It’s possible that my first post was regarding a discussion on the all-time LA Dodger catcher.
Wrong again! LOL!!!
Here is an interesting article in the Times. Everyone quoted in the article is lucid and accurate – except the author. I guess no one can go into a slump for a couple of days without it being caused by playoff pressure.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers19-2008oct19,0,1325742,full.story
No Eric. Its just for some of you it seems that way! LMAO!!
Hey guys, I’m afraid we’re stuck with Pierre at least until the trade deadline or a waiver deal down the stretch – no one in their right mind would take him before the season starts. By midseason clubs will take almost anybody if they’re still warm and breathing. BTW, what’s wrong with the Dodgers DEALING a little excess baggage (Nomar/Pierre/Kent)midseason instead of taking more on like they always do (Loaiza/Hillenbrand et al.?)
By enchantedsunset on December 5, 2007
This is the first time I saw your name in December. It looks like you just jumped right in enchanted.
As you can see, Pierre’s been a favorite subject of mine for sometime along with the rest of the PVLs. LOL
Ward Dear… that article is just sad 😦
That article is sad – laying it at the feet of the kids again. What about Raffy’s .211 or Kent’s 0 for 8 against Philly?
They won as a team, they lost as a team. It’s that simple.
Later people. Grocery day tomorrow and that means a 7:00 AM start time if you want to beat the crowds around here.
enchanted – Pierre was a favorite of jhall’s too – LOL!!!
Good Night enchanted/Beav – Happy shopping tomorrow morning 🙂
“They won as a team, they lost as a team. It’s that simple.”
Exactly correct, enchanted. Dylan Hernandez writes puff pieces about Torre and Ned. He’s quickly becoming my lease favorite writer on the Times.
Goodnight, Beav!
I went back in the archives as far as they would let me, to March 1, 2007. Max, alex and kssparkle were there.
sigh……LEAST favorite writer………..
It’s been a long day and I’m shutting it down for the night.
Goodnight June Darlin’ and God Bless to you and yours!
Ward Dear… and to use that picture of Andre again makes the article even sadder. At least use the one of him holding his precious baby. I have never liked many of Dylan’s articles, so I don’t know why I’m surprised.
Are you gearing up for another letter?
Good night Ward Dear……. Have a wonderful Sunday with your family. God Bless to you and yours as well. 🙂
f-yahbowa. Pressure is on Frank and Ned.
—
“Real crucial,” Bowa said. “He’s helped the maturation of these young kids. I’m not saying that if he doesn’t come back they won’t mature. But if he doesn’t come, you better get somebody to help the maturation along. You saw what he did to help these kids in the last two months.”
Thanks for the update Josh. Sounds like a wonderful day.
Not that it matters, but apparently it did the other night. It looks like Edwcarter was around before Shad was.
Nelly, Yes he was and said he’s been posting for 2 years on this blog in the same time frame while I always posted on the main Dodgers board for 2 years. I just came to this blog somewhere back in late June or early July. Well I see Alex is back and I was wondering whatever happen to him, rod dodgerdude17 and some other.
I just don’t understand why I haven’t seen him post as much as he used to now.
I’ve been here since the very beginning of this blog which was Spring Training 2006! I never left but didn’t post on here nearly as much as I used to and certainly never stopped reading. And of course I plan on doing spring training play by play in 2009. Though like all of us wish we were still playing for 2008. But, it was a great season.
dnelly, how’d you find everyone’s first post? did you literally scroll through all the archives? or is there a better way to find it.. can you find it by name? just curious.. i can’t remember when i started posting.. it’s been a while..
Hello there everybody. I think most o you have gone to bed as I’m about to. Sorry for the 2 “hit & runs” but I was just stopping by before hitting the hay! Between a movie with Wifey & my snake taking awhile to eat dinner tonight I’m up late and catching up on the reading.
.
Thanks for looking up my ITD birthday Nelly. I’m glad I was finally born. I’d been reading since Spring 2006 but never posted. I didn’t read it every day like now but I did follow it especially when Alex did play by play during Spring Training.
.
By the way, Alex I always like your words of insight. Please post more often.
.
For those of you that haven’t posted in awhile but used to I think a little roll call is in order!! You’re all what makes this blog special so please check in and let people know how your doing!!
.
I’m glad everybody seems well and that your better Sarah!
.
I had something like that earlier this summer and I’ve taken to calling it the Lost Summer Weekend of 2008! I had all these plans and boom they were dashed away & I was real sick in bed. I was going to 2 Dodger vs Giant games, a friends birthday party at a club in the city and playing in a softball tourney in Manteca. These are not every day things for me so I WAS PUMPED!!! Bummer :(!!
.
Anyway it is late and I’m rambling (Note to self…don’t post on ITD after 02:00!).
.
DC out…
Hello! I just was trying to be #700!!! Woo Hoo!!!!
Hi Alex, good to see you back.
Funny everyone talked about early ITD posts tonight. I did a little accidental ITD history searching earlier this week, when looking for a picture of Dodger Stadium for a potential drawing I was gonna do. I found a pic on Google Image Search, and it linked to the blog. When I clicked on the picture, It took me to the first post of this blog, written by Team Historian Mark Langill:
————–
From Los Angeles – Mark Langill
Greetings from Los Angeles and welcome to the “Inside the Dodgers” blog. Although Spring Training is under way in Florida, it’s business as usual for those at Dodger Stadium. Whether selling tickets, planning the publications, designing ad campaigns and billboards, or monitoring the progress of the offseason stadium renovation and construction, the clock is ticking and everyone knows Opening Day and the 2006 season is just around the corner. I will be in Vero Beach from March 5 until the end of Spring Training and I always enjoy my time there. If you like history, just imagine attending a training camp started by Dodger President Branch Rickey in 1948, and filled with photos and landmarks from both the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodger teams.
I am posting my first entry from my desk at Dodger Stadium in the Publicity Department. As the team historian and a former newspaper reporter, this Dodger blog is an exciting opportunity to give fans some insight about the daily activities surrounding the ballclub. For example, one of the morning assignments yesterday was taking my digital camera around the ballpark for updated pictures at Dodgers.com. My favorite angle is from center field. Pull back the outfield gate, step onto the warning track and the view gazing toward home plate is spectacular. The various stadium seating levels piled toward the sky have been compared to a wedding cake and Italian opera house.
Early in the morning, the goal is to get a photo when there are clouds to avoid shadows. Unfortunately, the sun was peeking through the clouds at the wrong time around 9:30. I was taking photos by the new baseline box seat area near the visitor’s dugout around 9:40 when the clouds suddenly covered the sun. I didn’t want to run toward the center field fence, so I briskly walked around the outfield track, hoping the lighting would remained unchanged for a few minutes. By the time I reached center field again, the shadows had reappeared. Fortunately, another cloud cover came along later in the afternoon when I was in the Right Field Pavilion. Those little things make me appreciate the work of Jon SooHoo, one of the best photographers in baseball. Jon packed what seemed like seven trunks of equipment for his multi-week stay in Vero Beach. Check out his photo galleries this spring.
From my experience, clicking on that link is the only way to access the February 2006 posts, and you can advance forward by clicking on “next post” on the bottom, but once you’ve advanced, it won’t let you go back to the previous Feb 06 post (that’s the only messed up month). By looking through, I found my first ITD post:
——————–
I’m glad Vin Scully’s contract was extended. Since moving up to (blech) Giants country a few years ago, I’ve missed hearing Scully calling games. With Giants sportscasters being anything but unbiased, even going to the point of “eliminating” fans(rubbing over people in the crowd with a telestrator in between pitches, usually fans from opposing teams), I miss Scully’s class, often letting the crowd tell the story rather than drawing on people.
I’d have to say, though, one of my favorite memories of Vin Scully happened last year, when on Opening Day against SF, the Giants’ broadcasting trailer unfortunatelly caught fire, and the Dodgers’ broadcasting team let the Giants use LA’s feed for FSN Bay Area. Hearing Scully call Opening Day in Giants country was truly beautiful, even though it lasted only an inning or two.
Can’t wait to get down to SoCal to hear Scully call a game again… for me, a game at Dodger Stadium isn’t the same unless you can hear Scully on the radio calling it as well.
Funny, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
EPIC QUOTE:
For third base coach Larry Bowa, the most important decision regarding the kids is the decision the club will make on the 36-year-old Ramirez.
“Real crucial,” Bowa said. “He’s helped the maturation of these young kids. I’m not saying that if he doesn’t come back they won’t mature. But if he doesn’t come, you better get somebody to help the maturation along. You saw what he did to help these kids in the last two months.”
Good morning everyone. Hope you are all having a great weekend. I see people are going back and perusing the archives. I have a bad feeling we will be singing the same songs again. If/when the Phew, Jones, Kemp, Ethier debacle rears its ugly head again next spring, we can just recycle our posts from this spring. Sure hope the Rays get it together tonight and eliminate the RedSox.
Excelsior True Blue Believers!!!
Outstanding song Arayd and congrats on your first effort. Welcome to the deep end as Nelly calls the songwriting part of our ITD community.
Amy, also good job on your song and I’m glad you are feeling better.
Good to see/read you Alex. We had quite a time this past spring. It was very fun.
Good morning Jhall ~ it was quite an interesting time last night………I just wish I could stay up late enough to enjoy all the fun. I try but, for some reason I poop out around 10:00 or 11:00. And, I really need my beauty sleep! lol
Way to go PierreEW!!!!
Bonjour Trumom!!! LOL!! I know what you mean!!!
Good Morning ITD writers and readers!!
That was me going back. Trublue had asked who Alex was, so I had to go see when he was around. He was around alot, along with jhall, old fogey, messagebear, jungar, leekfink, edwcarter, Kalhiforni, puppyhead, redfox, and then later came enchanted, but Eric was right, Alex did play by play of all the spring training games.
Bonjour Nelle”!!!! Alex did play by play for the folks that didn’t subscribe to MLB radio. I listened to the games on MLB radio and I highly recommend it for those that don’t get local coverage.
nsblues – I remember you saying your name was drinkinmercury, and I was pretty sure that was you back in December of 2007 and before, I a believe.
sara – I just went back into this time of year last year to find Alex,and then remembering it was the same exact discussion we are having today was kind of funny. It’s like a soap opera. You can not watch it for months and come back and not much has changed except for a few characters have come and gone, but the problems are all still there – pitching, 3rd bases, and the outfield (Pierre in particular back then because most everyone thought Jones would solve the Pierre problem, not make it worse)
Found out that I didn’t start writing until March, which surprised me (March 5th), but I had been reading for almost a year. Eric had started as just Eric in December a day or so after enchanted, dropped off, and haven’t found where he picked up again. I stopped looking after I found me. xoxrussell it appears was the first female,(assuming all the posters I was reading were male at the time) and I forgot to mention pierreseastwest was a prominent poster a year ago as well.
jhall – you were very prominent back then, and you were VERY vocal about Pierre not being in the outfield. You and jungar often led the debates on the issue, along with others. Let’s put it this way – there was alot of engagement back then that was pretty funny. And to think you all were fighting for Andruw instead. Really it was for Ethier, but Andruw is the one everyone wanted in Centerfield, with Andre and Matt on the corners.
Alex – it’s good to hear you were one of the founders. I don’t have to look anymore, or at least I know where to go. I started with November and am working to current. jhall is definitely before November.
Maybe you will get to see a Moon Shot.
By jhall1218@yahoo.com on January 25, 2008 10:51 AM
I see a moon shot everytime the wife bends over…
By enchantedsunset@msn.com on January 25, 2008 11:04 AM
One of Beav and my earlier interactions. LOL!!!!!
LMAO!!!! you and enchanted connected pretty much right away. You two used to make me laugh and you still do, of course. It’s scary we are talking the same stuff now that you guys talked about back then. Manny is the only difference because most people want him signed.
Certainly alot more asterisks Pre-Cleaver. LOL!!!!!
speaking of Cleaver Family – hilarious how you and enchanted have those roles nailed. It’s just way too funny to watch that show now. I don’t really think I laughed at that show too much when it was on when I was a kid, but now it has a totally different meaning, and it’s just hilarious to me now.
I always liked that show. Can you tell? LOL!!!!
Nell’, you and Eric certainly have the Ward and June characters nailed as well.
My first post – oh the memories. I even spelled Andre’s name wrong – the shame of it all – LOL!!!!! I had been a fan before that, but I guess I thought I was one of the few back then until I started reading the blog, and now I am the president of the Ethierholics. Boy, how we have changed in a year.
I have been a Dodger fan my whole life, and I live up north in Giant country, which is very difficult. I have been watching this blog since last April, and this blog has made me into a huge Eithier fan. It’s great to see all the compassion! I am watching ST like it’s the real thing, and it’s frustrating to see what’s happening.
Got to go back to work! lol
By dnelson@mcsd.k12.ca.us on March 5, 2008 2:35 PM
and then the first person to respond……
A Dodger fan in Giant country! Yeah – I lived in Oakhurst for 10 years. Needless to say I never went to any AAA games in Fresno.
jhall – is any of the management on the same page? McCourt comes along and says we’re staying the course with the kids. Ned keeps the kids, then won’t let them play. They hire Torre who’s a vets manager. Doesn’t make any sense.
By enchantedsunset on March 5, 2008 2:51 PM
I think that is why it’s so funny to me because I am so far from being June, and from what I’ve read, Eric is not exactly Ward Dear, and I am sure you would say the same about yourself, and I am sure enchanted would say the same thing. It’s laugh out loud until I’m crying funny.
This was the first attempt at not talking baseball so to speak – hilarious!!! jungar was obi back then…..
Tennis anyone?
Loney: Nah, Nah no seriousley.. I led baseball. Yeah dude all of baseball. Anyone in Proffesional ball who played in 2006. I hit .380.
Andy: You did?
Loney: Bro, you were there, you hit .322/.400/.950..we were in triple A, 2 years ago 2006. And Nomar still beat me out.
LaRoache: The only thing worse than that is now he is gonna beat me out.
Loney: You only hit .309 last year. Your on base wasnt’ even .400 like mine was.
LaRoche: Dude it was .399
You are so screwed.
Andy: My OPS was 988.
James: Ned don’t know what that means. UR FUCT ha ha…you can save my seat for me while on the bench….better yet save Nommmmmahs
Not much has changed, has it!!!?
LMAO!!!!!! no – it hasn’t LMAO!!!!!
scott and martinloneykemp were very involved too. LOL!!!!!
nelson – if they’re very young kids just tell them that when no one’s looking the Giants are mean to puppies and kittens.
By enchantedsunset on March 6, 2008 2:28 PM
LMAO!!!!!
I am on a search to find sara, but the reading is very entertaining – LOL!!
LOL!!!
How did Ohio State do yesterday? Didn’t watch any college football.
Another classic enchanted moment – LOL!!!!!
I was watching Pierre today, OK, scrutinizing Pierre today, and for a few innings I had some hope that, OK it might not be as bad as I think. After all, he had a clean single, bunted for a hit, even dove and made a nice catch.
Then I watched him toss back to the infield on Lowell’s single. From shallow LF mind you, here comes this rainbow with nothing on it. Had Lowell been well, anybody else with a little speed, as soon as that ball left JPs hand he could’ve easily made it to second without a throw, 1 because of the rainbow, and 2. because he “threw” it to third (kind of.)
Then up he comes with a guy on first and all of a sudden he’s back to being slappy McPullhitter, rolling it over for and easy DP. Someone with his speed should rarely hit into a DP, and almost never by pulling the ball to the right side.
Since it appears (barring a miracle) that he’s going to be our LFer, I’m trying to find some good feeling I can take away from a 2-hit game, but he even deprives me of that.
I’m probably going to need a good therapist before the season’s over…
By enchantedsunset on March 6, 2008 6:07 PM
We kicked Michigan States butt much as USC whipped on Washington State. Thanks for asking Nell’!!!!
We all needed therapy with Jokos’ lineups through July and August. Geez!!!!
OK I get it now. JP = Trigger.
By enchantedsunset@msn.com on February 11, 2008 4:17 PM
Beav with an ah-hah! moment. LOL!!!!
That’s good to know about Ohio State.
As far as enchanted’s post, you commented right after that one – pretty funny too. Joey_rock, not to get confused with joeyp, was a JP advocate if you recall. You had some choice for him at times – LOL!!!!
Yep, he was annoying to say the least. LOL!!!!
old fogey – just figured it out – Ned’s tetched in the head too!
By enchantedsunset on March 7, 2008 8:12 AM
Hey jungar!!! Taking a walk down memory lane – you were and still are pretty funny 🙂
Hey Jungar!!!
Hey, you guys, I’ve lost my memory! Old age does that to you. lol
Hey Trumom. At least you are unforgettable.
a portion of enchanted’s post…..
A white horse appeared from the east amid thunder and lightening,
And the rider who sat upon him was the mighty King,
With a sharp sickle in his hand, a day of reckoning,
Evil would not prevail against the King of Kings!”
– Victor Hugo Osorio
Good Almost-Noon ITD.
Let’s go Rays, Let’s go!
LOL!! ~ I would imagine that was your guys’ first attempt at being creative, and working in tandem. Still haven’t found where Dodgereric makes his first appearance (ericmonson dropped off in December), and I haven’t found sara yet ethier.
Good noontime nsblues!!!! ….or down memory lane drinkinmercury79 🙂
Thanks martin – this one goes out to you, jhall, scott, jungar and all the gang…
P is for the many pops you’ve hit me.
I is for the me before the team.
E is for the extra base you give teams.
R is for the running you do so well.
R is for the runs that you let score.
E is for the excruciating taps.
Put them all together they spell PIERRE. In left field for me you’ll always be.
LOL!!!!! enchanted attempt at a chant after martinloneykemp’s post of the James Loney Song.. LOL!!!!
Hey NS. Always loved the Drinkinmercury moniker!!!
heheh, cool. It was great coming home from closing last night and seeing everyone had talked about the older days. Laughing loudly at 4am and hoping I didn’t wake anyone up
My left fielder has a rag arm,
I rarely hits its mark,
My leftfielder has a pop bat,
It never goes to far,
Oh, I hate to watch him play,
And if you ask me why I’ll say,
He takes away at bats from Andre.
By jhall1218 on March 11, 2008 12:14 PM
LOL!!!!!! we have certainly come along way from poems to songs …. However, I think this will be a topic once again until he is traded, hopefully.
Wow Nelly, I think you may have found the Big Bang!!! LOL!!!!
Jhall, thanks, it was my AOL e-mail address, back in the day of dial-up AOL 6.0. Came from a Smashing Pumpkins lyric.
of course, now it feels like a yearbook picture, heheh.
LOL!!!
jhall – you know through all this reading, most of the people who have kind of went away are people who were JP advocates. edwcarter (back in the day and now) and amy (more recent) were the only ones who stuck it out, unless of course, they are here now under a different name. You have to commend both of them for sticking to their convictions through all the JP bashing so to speak and realizing that in the end we all wanted the same thing – the best players on the field. Also, knowing what we know about Andruw now, alot of our minds would have been different too. I easily would have taken JP in center (Matt wasn’t considered at the time) and Andre and Matt at the corners.
….. however, knowing Repko and DY were part of the equation, maybe not.
Well, now that we know how Juanpy’s story’s shaping up, and inspired by the older posts, I just wanna throw my change in the jukebox. Nothing says L.A. like the Beach Boys.
The Sloop J.P.
Oh, he played for the Dodger Blue
Tenured like Andruw
Round Centerfield they did roam
Pushing out Kemp
Gluing Dre to the bench
But now it’s not the case
“I just want to go”
‘Cause outplayed, JP wails
His noodle-arm always fails
He played for the name on his back, “I just want go”
“I just want to go, Oh, Please Ned, let me go”
Packing up his things, “I just want to go”
Work ethic is his claim to fame
With swiss cheese holes in his game
Ned Colletti, why can’t you trade him away?
The press on the phone, “leave me alone
I’m not starting, so I want to go”
‘Cause outplayed, JP wails
His noodle-arm always fails
He played for the name on his back, “I just want go”
“I just want to go, Oh, Please Ned, let me go”
Packing up his things, “I just want to go”
The poor guy, he had fits
When Torre made the shift
Now J.P. is collecting the cash cold
“just let me go, won’t you leave me alone?
I don’t start no more, I just want to go”
‘Cause outplayed, JP wails
His noodle-arm always fails
He played for the name on his back, “I just want go”
“I just want to go, Oh, Please Ned, let me go”
Packing up his things, “I just want to go”
I hung my Dodgers Beach Towel on my door over my Chicago-based Smashing Pumpkins poster before the start of the NLDS. Tattered and dirty, I still have it up, but it’s made the door difficult to close for over a week now (and driven everyone trying to get in and out a little nuts).
I think I’m taking down the flag to M.I.A.’s Paper Planes right now…. seems appropriate.
Didn’t see this much after the season started – LOL!!!!!!
Thanks Nelly. I had that Beach Boys song stuck in my head at work last night… I wonder why…. We’ve all had those days, I’m sure
nsblues – I have had the B 52’s stuck in my head all day yesterday. I was tried listening to some Maroon 5 and other stuff yesterday, but it won’t go away. I am sure there’s a song in there somewhere, but nothing’s come of it yet. I think there’s a few Maroon 5 songs with potential, though.
I definitely needed a red pen for that last post omit “have” omit “was”
Well I had a hell of a time in LA. Good seats, good hotel and good all around time, too bad the game was awful! Good to see Matt Leinart getting booed. Beer being thrown at by fans on cops was a joke. I loved the home crowd but dang, if I had children I would not take them to a ball game there, if so, no where in the loge level where I sat.
Interesting offseason coming up, I can see us depending on Druw being healthy and not resigning Manny. I can see us trading Juan and/or Kemp. I think we will sign CC instead of Manny. Just my opinions. Should be fun!
Rooting for Phillies or Rays now!
ericmonson finally reappears this day, but then comes along this post by our beloved enchanted – 🙂
.
.
So I’m sitting in McDonalds this morning and came to a couple of realizations (not any epiphanies mind you, for how many epiphanies can one have in McDonalds, but I digress…)
One was that I was sitting in McDonalds and wondering what events in my life had to take place that brought me to a point that I WAS at a McDonalds to HAVE realizations. I have no answers for that…
The other two were these:
#1. I can see DY having a career much like Lee Lacy – always the bridesmaid and never the bride.
#2 As long as JP is on the Dodgers he HAS to start because as a 4th outfielder, he’s totally worthless. 4th OFers need to be able to come in on double switches and late in the game and play solid defense. 4th outfielders need to be able to pinch hit and drive in key runs. This of course is not going to happen.
Now don’t jump on me for beating a dead horse because I’m not per se, though I’m still firmly entrenched in Ethier’s camp. I’m just wondering if Joe and Ned came to this same conclusion because off the bench, the only thing JP is really capable of is PR. In otherwords, if he doesn’t start, he’s dead weight, whereas Ethier is capable of late inning defense and PHing…
BTW, Myers stinks.
By enchantedsunset@msn.com on March 14, 2008 2:31 PM
scurtis – glad you had fun, except for the loss. Ray – yes, Phillies – no. They have been awful on Andre’s blog, and they’re were a few on ITD (not all) that were just as bad. The Rays need to win it all.
Nelly, I feel ya there. But I work with Boston fans and 1 Philly and Boston is more annoying! ha
Eric had made a few posts before this one. He was talking about Mathewson (sp), but this is the first connection between jhall and eric (still pre-dodgereric)
I’m new to posting, but I must say that it’s been a lot of fun reading you guys. I grew up in the LA area but now live in Temecula, about halfway between LA and San Diego. I’m surrounded by Padre and Angel fans. I’ve had my Dodger flag ripped off my house. So it’s great to read feelings and ideas from so many passionate Dodger fans from around the country.
scurtis – I hear ya too. I don’t know…. if it weren’t for the fans on Andre’s blog, I probably would have wanted them to win over Boston. I am hoping the Rays win so I don’t have to choose. I don’t know any Philly’s fans around here, and the Boston fans I do know are very nice, and they still love Manny. They were even rooting for a Dodger/Sox WS.
That’s cool! Ugh baseball is over 😦
Hey – what hotel did you end up staying at? Also, how are all the Chicago Cubs/White Sox fans?
I know about baseball being over – I am watching football, and just asked “what inning are they in?”
Cubs and White Sox fans are pathetic cry babies looking for excuses, now that is flowing over to the Bears.
The Omni Hotel downtown. It was so nice. Got a great deal. Downtown is dead though, I wanna stay someplace next time where more of a night life is. It was only like 2 miles from the stadium so that was very nice. Next time Im going to bring some friends with me.
Outstanding Mercury Drinker (NS)!!!!!! Love it!!!!
Yep Nell’, Amy has tolerated alot of Phew bashing. I hope Ned can find a better fit for him. I personally don’t have anything against him. I just don’t like his game and it is not a good fit on this team.
scurtis ~ We stayed at the Omni, and yes, no night life but we were at all the games at night. We ended up going to Burbank to shop during the day.
jhall – this stuff is just funny at times – LOL!!! I am reading and watching football/racing at the same time, and my family thinks I have lost it.
1. Pierre is a good ballplayer because:
A) He has a WS ring to prove it.
B) He’s a hard worker.
C) He gets 200 hits per year.
D) All of the above.
2. Pierre should be the left fielder because:
A) The throws are shorter from left.
B) He’s fast and covers a lot of ground.
C) He has a big contract.
D) All of the above.
nellyae & Jhall ~ you are right……..enchanted is going to come on here and think he’s entered the Twilight Zone! lol
That’s right!!!!! LOL!!!!! can’t forget mama – LOL!!!!!!
good afternoon. .
.
you are all lucky that you have football to fall back on. I’m lost without sports. I miss baseball and I can’t bring myself to watch the ALCS- and probably not even the WS. Not because the Dodgers are out of contention, jut because I don’t want to watch the Phillies play in the series. Boo!!!
.
I love my Dodgers.
I must say jhall, you and enchanted welcomed every newcomer – just awesome! If it wasn’t both of you, it was a least one of you (if you weren’t both on at the same time).
LOL Trumom!!!
Bonjour Amy mon amie!!!
Misery loves company Nelly!!! LOL!!!!
Dodgereric will be a happy person today. His Jimmy Johnson #48 just won another race. Well, maybe half happy – the Chargers lost 😦
Good Afternoon Amy/pop legend!!!! There’s always a good movie to watch I’m sure.
Yep Nell’, JNV hasn’t been around for awhile. Hope is all well and good with him. He was a good poster.
Amy, college football is awesome. Your an honorary Buckeye in my book!!! LOL!!!
hey jhall my friend. and Miss Dnell.
I hope so! I’m taking up a second job now that the season is ended. Extra time and extra money. Sounds good to me!
Amy, don’t be a stranger here. We’ll be around talking Dodgers all winter.
ITD thinking we had a say so on who would be the starting outfield. We were right for opening day. Also, eric’s first mention of his letters to the times – still no sara, but the search continues.
.
Starting OF petition update:
Jones, Kemp, Ethier: 27
Jones, Kemp, Pierre: 0
Jones, Ethier, Pierre: 0
Thanks for stepping up for the cause and welcome dramboy.
Just so you not-in-LA Dodger fans know, there are a lot of us in-the-area fans that have been beating that horse in the LA Times. I myself have had 2 letters printed lately.
Jhall, thanks! I think I might be Mickey’s Drinker tonight, the way the Raider game has been going. Oh well, I’ll always have USC (Since Chico State doesn’t have a football team)
Dnelly, the song I’ve had stuck in my head for 2 weeks, thanks to Peter Griffin and Family Guy, is “The Surfin’ Bird” by The Trashmen. (“Have you heard the word? Bi-bi-bi-bird bird bird, b-b-bird is the word, bi-bi-bi-bird bird bird, b-b-bird is the word… Bbbbbbbpbpbpbpbppbbpbp…. ma-ma-ma ooh-mau-mau ma-ma ooh-mau-ma-mau…”). Everyone in the house will bust out with it at one point, then be angry that they started it again.
Hi Amy! How are you?
how could I not come around here in the off season?!?!? Coming here will keep my Dodger team alive 🙂
haha- and thanks for making me part of your team. I dunno if Sara will like that. I’m kinda already a honorary USC girl. haha.
See everyone wants me on their team.
.
Never would have guessed back then that the Cow would stink more than Phew. Geez!!!! What a mess Andruw Jones turned out to be. Beav surmised that it was because he was a juicer and I agreed!!!!
Hi Amy ~ I know how you feel now that the Dodgers’ season is over. I switch my attention to college football, college basketball and the Lakers. I just count the days until the winter baseball meetings begin and look forward to spring training. I have a feeling the moves Frank McCourt and Ned make will give us lots to talk about.
jhall ~ the only reason I mentioned jnv is because last time he was away for a long period of time, he had spent some time in the hospital with a heart problem. I hope all is well with him. Like you said, he was a great poster.
jhall ~ who was the first one to come up with the nicknames (Cow, Phew, etc.)?
Yea ~ #800
Oops ~ #802
Yeah Tru, I’m anxiously waiting for the winter meetings too… Spring takes forever… but with the World Baseball Classic this year, I have a feeling this will feel a lot shorter than some offseasons.
nsblues – my son watches that show all the time, so I know the song well. As for football the Chargers already lost, and hoping the Redskins can beat the Browns. I guess Dallas losing to the Rams is a very good things – sorry Boblee.
Amy ~ you can like both. You just may have a problem if they ever play each other again. I like many college teams, and as long as they aren’t playing each other, you shouldn’t have any worries.
NSB- my friend. I am well. This weekend was a turn around for me. I’m among the living again!
.
Tru- I’m with you. I just can’t enjoy football no matter how hard I try. I visit with my mom on the weekends and she is hard core football fan, college and nfl. when I am there I am soo bored. My goodness. It’s just for me I suppose. But The trade/off season news will be fun to hear.
.
and the posts add up 🙂
.
Nelly- its strange to think that we all didn’t know eachother at some point and we were all ‘new’. Now we’re family 🙂
Beav coined the Curacao Cow and I am responsible for Phew!!!
trublue ~I haven’t reached that far yet. In my timeline, the Deadhorsemen are all the talk – LOL!!!!
trublue….and there’s your answer!!!
Yep Trumom, When college football is over and Spring Training hasn’t started, I’m lost. March Madness is fun.
Good afternoon ITD boys and girls!
So I see y’all are on a reminiscing mood!!! I briefly mentioned it to Nelly a few days ago, but watch out between Thanksgiving and Christmas! I’ll be breaking out my first song parody, Juan Pierre Got Run Over By a Reindeer – unless, of course, JP gets his wish and is another team’s responsibility…
Hey CP!!! Good to see you.
Jhall ~ they should be added to our ITD dictionary…….along with Ethieraholic and so many others. Speaking of Ethieraholic, someone posted on Dre’s blog and said they were an Ethieraholic, and I have never seen her post here. Interesting how the name has caught on!
Hey jhall!!! How ya doing!!! It’s been a while since we were both on ITD at the same time!!! 🙂
Always good for a laugh:
Ram It by the L.A. Rammers (the 1986 L.A. Rams)
Ram it! Do you know how to ram it?
Just ram it! Do you know how to ram it?
We’ll be rocking L.A., so let’s ram it today!
Let’s ram it! We’re gonna ram it
Let’s ram it! Everybody ram it
We’ll be rocking L.A., so let’s ram it today,
Let’s ram it!
Jack Youngblood, Eric Dickerson and the rest of the Rams have choreography reminiscent of Alex Van Halen in the “Hot For Teacher” video. Good times
When I saw Ethier in Vero I told him I hoped he was starting and playing everyday. So I started calling him “Everyday ‘Dre”.
Go Blue!!
One of Andre’s many nicknames now 🙂
Hey TruBlue!!! How ya doing!!! Yeah, I saw on Andre’s blog that Ethieraholic is being used by many more than those here on ITD who started it!!! It is funny to see that name in so many places!!! I still would love to have an Ethieraholic t-shirt!!! Who did we say that started that name???
Doing well CP, thanks. How about you? Sure wish Santa and the reindeer would take out Ned!!! LOL!!!!
Good stuff Merc!!!!
LOL Trumom!!! Alot of Ethierholics out there. With good reason.
CP –
