Okay… so when do we see Kemp and/or Bigbie on the Dodgers? It just doesn’t make sense to have two guys who are mediocre hitters and mediocre fielders (Pierre and Gonzalez) in the outfield on the major league team, while we have two superior hitters and fielders in AAA.

I agree. This is one “dead horse” I don’t mind continually beating until the Dodgers management realizes having two backup utility infielders on a team that can’t get consistent offense from anyone, when they have Kemp, and Loney (I’m not as convinced Bigbie would be the answers to the problem, but he seems to deserve a chance, too) waiting and waiting down there in the minors. It’s good to see LaRoche given a chance, but those other two guys have already proven they can do it and they could be no worse than the sluggish sluggers we have in there now. Anyway, the starting pitching’s been so good they haven’t always needed it, but they could be 3 or 4 games up in that division right now if they had any kind of offense at all. Maybe tonight will be the night. Go Penny!

I’m with you guys. I’d rather see Kemp up mainly because he’s a RH hitter. I think Ramon Martinez needs to go more than Wilson Valdez who adds speed to our bench but that’s just my opinion. I think Gonzo is hurt, put him on the DL and go make some rehab assignments or something. LaRoche needs to stay.

you guys know very well they’re not getting rid of gonzo unless he goes on the dl. its sad but true. we knew from the beginning of the year he was going to do nothing, but that kemp would not be given a chance to replace him. so, yeah, it is beating a dead horse. management has been pretty stubborn though. 3b is not the only spot we’re not getting production from and yet thats the only spot they’re willing to change.

Of course we know they aren’t going to bench Gonzo or Pierre this early in the season no matter if they are struggling or not. I think that’s fine but I do think having a nice alternative to give Gonzo a day off couldn’t hurt and Kemp to me is a nice viable alternative and could play 3-4 times a week spelling Gonzo and Ethier.

It’s really simple, more simple than they’re willing to admit – this may be more of a compromise than some of us would like but it’s the only way right now. They need to call up Kemp and then get a regular rotation of Gonzo, Pierre, Ethier and Kemp – preferably with Kemp not just subbing for Ethier but subbing for Pierre and Gonzo on occasion, too. Gonzo’s gonna need a rest at points this season anyway. I don’t see why that should be a problem. You get Kemp by DFAing Valdez or Martinez. Loney’s time is less likely to come unless Nomar gets hurt. If they need to bring up Kuo or Brazoban, DFA Seanez. It’s really not rocket science here.

Anyway, as I said, I do hope their offense gets on track soon. Lack of homers is not a surprise nor nec. a big problem but they need to at least produce.

I agree with you underdog. I realize that it’s not likely that Gonzo or Pierre are taken out of the lineup. But it is infuriating to see inferior players playing in place of superior, cheaper players. Perhaps we are beating a dead horse, but I see no problem with that. Let’s keep complaining until management wakes up.

Everybody seems to be on the same page concerning what changes need to be made..

A good article by a sports writer in LA says pretty much the same thing..

    http://www.insidesocal.com/dodgers/

And, as everyone has said, managment is just too stubborn, unwilling, unrelenting to make any changes.. Even though Grady keeps hinting to the media that he is going to do something..

    Very disappointing..

It just seems that we will have to lose more games befor anything gets done.. Hopefully it won’t be too late..

Hey-at least Gonzo is consistent. He will hit either a weak ground ball or an ever weaker pop fly to short outfield in almost every at bat.

Oh, joy. Same lineup of lovely, unproductive veterans. Penny, I hope you’re prepared to pitch shutout ball!

Nomar hits much better at home ( .370 ) than on the road ( .225 ) so I’m off his case until we hit the road, which is not for about two weeks, since Anaheim is so close!

But all the other guys … yeah. And how about getting rid of a backup infielder in favour of a roster spot for someone who can hit, indeed.

Plus, Conte needs to sniff out any guys who would rather be selfish and play hurt and unproductively than help the club by owning up and going on the DL, in case that is the problem somewhere. This team had the “Play hurt, hurt the team too! It is the right thing to do!” mentality for so long, Conte will need to work hard to get this club professional about that. If no-one is hurt, I guess everybody is just having a macro-slump.

Come on, Dodgers. Win two in a row for the first time in eight games and nine days!

i just looked up Penny #’s against Griffey Jr. & if somebody is on with him batting i’d walk ’em, depending on how Penny is throwing of course.

Okay, Ned. We voted. It’s call up Kemp and get rid of one of Martinez/Valdez. And while you’re at it, get rid of Tomko.

I’m starting to think that 14 K game was the worst thing to happen to Penny. He’s turned back into a thrower and not a pitcher. Hopefully he can bounce back to where he was before the Marlin game.

wrong alex brandon phillips took advantage of his ar. , he cut that ball off, hes not doing that on ethier or kemp ill bet you that. then furcal has to hold him on second because of his speed. nice try though.

  16. pellam.1@osu.edu's avatar
    pellam.1@osu.edu

Alex, I don’t think th eargument is negated. Maybe the runner would have scored on the play if there were a left fielder who could throw at all. But if there were a left fielder who could throw, he wouldn’t have gotten to second in the first place. That hit should have been a single.

  17. alex41592@aol.com's avatar
    alex41592@aol.com

    Wrong again…now pay attention:
Lets say Kemp is in left therefore Phillips stays at first and never moves to second.

Griffey’s single to left moves Phillips to second (on the overshifted defense). Hamilton’s walk loads the bases and Alex Gonzalez’s force play scores Phillips.

Run scores anyway, Gonzo’s arm ***** we get it!

Great call by Grady for the hit and run. Great execution by Martin and Gonzo just scored because of it. We need more of this!

    alex41592@aol.com

LOL, you guys complain about how we score! Hit them where they ain’t and oops oh well 6-1 Dodgers. D’Backs lost, Giants lost, Padres losing 5-0! But, I’m sure you’ll find a way to complain about being (potentially barring the Padre game) up 2 1/2 games in the West. In fact I guarantee you’ll find a way.

They all whine and cry but the fact that the whole team barring the pitching has been in a slump all the while maintaining first place has no bearing on the team performance nor the way people view the team…..The hits will fall when they fall and tonight they are!

Oh no I’m sure you guys are all happy. I suppose my issue with some on you is you’re always here to point out what’s wrong with the team/players/GM/Managers/Bat Boys/Jock Straps…believe me I could go on and on. But then when good things go right, you’re never here to point those things out. If you did those things every now and then I wouldn’t have an issue with your criticisms. And I definitely do not turn a blind eye to our offensive issues, but I also believe they’ll come out of it and sometimes a night where the balls land where the fielders are not are exactly what this team may need to get going.

Also, Penny’s been masterful again so I retract my thrower/pitcher comment from earlier.

    You obviously have a gift..

You always manage to remain positive.. You always seem to see the bright side of each situation concerning the team.. The glass is always half full for you..You are always upbeat even when the team isn’t performing as others think they should.. I wsih I could be as positive as you, but sometimes it is just so hard for me to do..

Anyway, just think how boring this blog would be if we all felt the same..

I really do enjoy reading your passionate remarks.. Keep it up..

Well rwbjr lastyear at this time I was burning Furcal at the stake and we had a crappy bullpen with pathetic SP… it was truly a hellhole here with everyone telling me how great Furcal is without any performance for him. He showed me and I climbed onboard went with the flow and we made postseason! This Year we have the BEST pitching in sooo much longer then I can really remember with More depth then ever so it’s really hard to see what everyone is whining so much about, Yes we have kids down on the farm Yes they will come up but Burnout the old guy first keep the kids playing and wham we are in the playoffs with those who survive and produce…. Nothing in life is better then watching Baseball other then killing Fish who wanna die and I never complain about either.

Have a great time watching the game tonight!!

I love how the first half of tonight’s blog was all slamming the lineup, Grady, and pretty much everything. As the game started, it was micromanaging and criticizing every play. Then they scored runs, as this offense is going to do a lot more of than they’ve shown of late, and people are still complaining. Finally people come around and cheer for the team winning. Let’s be a little more positive in general around here – there are a lot of phenomenal baseball players that are underperforming right now across baseball. Gonzo and Kent probably aren’t phenomenal any more, but they will get the job done a lot better than they have. You guys who follow baseball know that averages work themselves out over an entire season, and slumps happen. Let’s hope that for Furcal, Nomar, and Gonzo, these last 2 games are the wake-up their bats needed.

BTW – San Diego, San Francisco, and Arizona all lost tonight.

Let’s go for the sweep tomorrow! Go Blue!

hey! Gonzo broke out of his 0-13 slumped and actaully did something significant since his 2 home run game in san fran! now if only we played games once a month he’d be gold!

Penny settled down which i was glad to see. I was worried he was gonna let that 14 K game to his head.

wanna talk about dominate? This is Brad’s 8th straight quality start. And off all the pitches who have faced a minimum of 100 batters he is the only one to not allow a home run. He has faced 206 batters this year.

well said puppyhead and alex– its pretty sad that i think i can name all of the rational people on this blog by memory. Nothing more to be said, but spiritied, passionate discourse does not involve people never budging off of a point. JP and Gonzo are bad at defense, they bring other intangibles– most importantly we have a very good team this year and we did not give up any young talent– i dont understand the Ned criticisms for that fact alone. First place and realistically we should have/could have won 3 more games on the road trp, but still first place and still well over .500.
