Let It Snow

Just took a cab over to Miller Park and sure enough, it’s snowing outside. Makes you really appreciate living in Los Angeles, though I’m guessing many of you are outside of LA and dealing with cold weather, too. Good thing there’s a roof on this park.

In regards to Russell’s music, he said he’s open to all suggestions. Last year he had hip hop and I asked him if we should keep the requests to that and he said no, so feel free to suggest whatever you think fits. Again, there will be a page on the site where you can suggest them, so for now just give it some thought.

Today’s lineup is the same as Opening Day:

Pierre, CF

Martin, C

Nomar, 1B

Kent, 2B

Gonzalez, LF

Betemit, 3B

Ethier, LF

Martinez, SS

Schmidt, P

And, in the organization’s continued effort to make parking a little easier on Opening Day, keep this in mind.

In order to accommodate as many fans as possible, the Dodgers are offering an Early Bird Parking/Carpool Special to fans that carpool (at least 4 fans per automobile) and park in Lot 15. These fans will receive a free ticket for each passenger to a future game if they arrive at Dodger Stadium at 9:30 a.m. and park in Lot 15, which is the lot located above the Think Blue sign.

This offer is limited to the first 600 automobiles.  Lot 15 is a special access parking lot that is only utilized during sold out games.  Fans will need to enter via the Academy Gate (off of Academy road across from the Police Academy) between 9:30 am and 10:15 am.  In addition to the free ticket for a future game, fans that carpool and park in Lot 15 will have early access to Opening Day batting practice via the Left Field Pavilion.

You must have tickets to Opening Day in order to participate in this special offer. Additionally, the lots on Stadium Way near the LAFD Training Facility will cost just $5.

Now I know Gonzo had some trouble in left field for the first two games, but was it so bad we needed two left fielders in today’s game? Now I’m starting to question why Valdez is even on the team.

  2. fliegel@ptd.net

The 2 left fielders makes sense. One to catch and one to throw. This is a big market team, how did our outfield become such a mess? Even the Brewers have a better outfield.

fiedel said: “Even the Brewers have a better outfield.”

And even though each one of them is better than Juan Pierre, combined the three Brewers outfielders make less salary this season than JP!

Valdez is on the team bc it will be much easier for him to clear waivers 1-2 weeks into the season than anytime before opening day.

I personally prefer Nancy Bea Hefley and the Dodger Stadium Roland Organ, but I can appreciate some of the songs. In that vein, I think Martin should use Ashford & Simpson’s 1984 hit “Solid (Solid as a Rock).” The meaning does not make a lot of sense, but the 30 second clip always seemed appropriate for a catcher, and Martin is solid as a rock.

Let me also suggest an idea that will seem goofy, but I am serious about. Saito needs a song when he comes in to close. Obviously, “Welcome to the Jungle” will not do–as great as that time was, we cannot recreate it. But with closers always coming in to hard rock music (“Back in Black,” “Wild Thing”), I think it would be fun, funny, and a little confusing, if the closer trotted into something decidedly upbeat–like “High Hopes.” I thought of that last week, and a friend mentioned that they did that in the latest Rocky movie, but I still think it would be fun, and confusing to the opposing players.

    my prediction for tonight…

Gonzo goes 0-4 while Ethier gets a hit and an RBI and then gets benched for Brady Clark. Dodgers win 6-3

Today’s game is going well so far, but seriously, this is likely to cause a riot. Josh, you should get the team to issue a statement that it has no plans to trade Loney, and that they intend to find a place for him to play regularly on the major league club.

You’ve heard it from this blog a lot, but I don’t think it can be said enough–it’s much better to be willing to move Nomar around then to lose Loney’s bat. I don’t know if that’s 3B in favor of Betemit, 2B to rest Kent once in a while, or even SS with Furcal out, but Ned and Grady have to find a way to get Loney up to the big league club and in the line-up regularly. It may not be clear just yet exactly where that is yet, but that has to be the goal.

leekfink@yahoo.com I could not agree with you more. Josh, please do what it takes to get either Grady, or preferably Ned or Frank on here to make a statement or have a chat about this. It is just not what the fans want. We finally have good young talent, likely a future all star and we are leaving him to rot in the minors while wilson valdez, brady clark and Luis Gonzalez take up roster space and in the case of Gonzalez a starting spot even though 2 of the 3 that I named have never proven anything at any level and the third is extremely past his prime. Yes Ned he did go to the World Series but so did Jay Johnstone. I guess we should bring him back too. Come on already!!!!

  9. jspelk2@uic.edu

I hope the dodgers trade Loney and it all blows up fantastically in their faces, cause thats honestly what they deserve.

But realistically, someboday PLEASE get Anderson/Clark/Valdez/Gonzo or whoever off the roster and Loney on. This is insanity! He has a legitimate beef and now they have to do something about it.

  10. leamans@mail.lincoln.leon.k12.fl.us

I have to say that I have not been as excited about an upcoming Dodger for a very long time. James Loney is the real deal and needs to be on the roster. We need his bat, we need his glove, and I don’t want to see him win Rookie of the Year in another uniform. When I saw him play in spring training I told him that it was nice seeing a “real Dodger” wearing #7 this year and he needs to be wearing it with the big club, not caught up in a numbers game in Vegas. Let’s bring him up and watch him turn into a superstar, not trade him for a rent-a-player. PLEASE NED, BRING THE KID UP!!!

    Go Dodgers!!!

“Gonzo goes 0-4 while Ethier gets a hit and an RBI and then gets benched for Brady Clark. Dodgers win 6-3” ( max_power_05)

Gonzalez went 2 for 3 with a walk and a HUGE run scored. Ethier is still 0 for 2007 (but that will change shortly).

Don’t give up on the old guys just yet (but Dear God DO NOT let Loney get away!!!)

  12. mitleid@herzeleid.net

Following Loney during Spring Training made one thing painfully clear: he’s a first baseman and that’s it. He made an apalling outfielder and that’s why he isn’t in the Game right now. If he manages to force a trade to another team so that he can start, I would cry until my eyes fell out, but would agree with him. He shouldn’t have to sit on the bench for 2 years waiting for Nomar to get hurt in order to play. Loney’s proven him self 10 times over and he deserves a shot at being the starting first baseman I know he is.
