i havent posted anything since wed. because of a family matter, but i did catch some of the game yesturday, and it dissapointed me so much, tomko who is alredy complaining about not being a closer, just keeps getting sheled, at this point i never want to see him closing out games, maybe for another team, but not for us.. this is the biggest series of the year, we have to make it happen, hopefully we wake up today..

I hope Grittle dosen’t do anything stupid to give away this game like he did the previous games. If only Tommy could manage again, he was pretty good early on in his managing career. Beat up the Pads ,we have the better team, now lets prove it!!!

Max Power, I hope your prediction is wrong about Lugo tonight, although I’m certainly no fan of his. If he does Zip in this game, Little should give Martinez another chance against lefthanders. He did pretty well for us over the season until his times at bat were given to Lugo.

i hope my prediction is wrong too…but it just seems he always strikes out looking or pops up…except for that one game he had two hits which was stunning. But as long as Furcal and Lofton get on base i see no reason why we should win tonight…of course if Lugo does go 0-4 and grady puts him in again I will be calling for gradys head! same goes if he decided to put Hendrickson in another start or puts Tomko in the game in any situation

I had a freak accident which drove a 3 inch splinter through my hand yesterday during Anderson’s homer.

After visiting the doctor I returned to find that the game would’ve been even more painful had I been able to watch.

    They better win today.

Okay… is it just me, or does anyone ELSE here think that Andre Ethier has had enough rest by now??? Why is he sitting out again? He’s been doing it all year, but not getting his chance to hit out of this slump. Not good. What gives Grady??? And why the heck do we have to watch Lugo in the lineup again? Wilson Betemit would be just as good. At least he’d have a better shot at driving in some runs. Grady… you’re making me shake my head already…

Go Dodger Blue… despite what Little is trying to do to this team!

Tommy had to be in the booth when Tomko gave up the bomb yesterday. It got to him, but I give him a lot of credit for still being gracious. So win one for the big Dodger down in the stands (or wherever he’s sitting for the game).

well paint me confused on a carnival cruise…Lugo has two hits! seems like all he can hit is only American League Pitchers. Maddux looks great! i wish i was at the game

Let me be the first to say: Ooooo, through six.

I’ve been a Maddux fan since he went to the Braves (my mom watched TBS and became a fan in their **** years), I wish I could watch this one.

Not that it matters, Gump will likely pinch hit for Greg in the 7th. The rain delay and Gump are keeping Greg from 2 no-no’s in his breif Dodger tenure.

    I don’t know… ask Grady.

Johnny Brox… he ROCKS… again!! Broken bat single was a fluke…

as was Nomar’s injury. Day-to-day might not be so bad. He’ll be rested in time for the playoffs.

As for Ethier… from the Amanda Branham article posted tonight on the home page:

“Ethier back on Saturday: Rookie of the Year candidate Andre Ethier has been given three straight days off, outside of a pinch-hit appearance in the ninth inning of Thursday’s game in Chicago.

Little decided not to start him in Friday’s series opener with San Diego, but he plans to put him in the lineup on Saturday.

This is the time of year when rookies tend to go through struggles, having had limited experience playing over the course of such a long season. Either is 114 games in through Thursday, and Little said he could tell the 24-year-old needed some time off. Despite his .138 average over the last 10 games, Ethier still has a healthy .320 average on the season.

“He really needed a break. Not only physical, but mostly mental,” Little said.

“He’s helped us get to where we are, but he kind of wore down a little bit and he needed a breather, so we gave it to him.”

Though he didnt get the 2 bagger and 3 rbi, im really happy for andre that he got a good AB, should help his confidence and thats probably the issue.

Cameron remains one of the best defensive CF in the game, whole SD defense is one of the best in the majors.

Hey BigLuna… where’d we be tonight without Julio Lugo’s performance? If Nomar can’t go tomorrow, then look for Lugo at second with Kent moving over to first-base. I’d really like to see Loney in there… but this is crunch time and Little will more than likely go with the veterans.

that was a big time clutch game from mad dog, but why did grady take him out? he dominated the padres, we cant wear out our best two relivers.. and like i have been saying for a while now, nomar shouldnt be brought back, he cant be counted on to be healthy, especially for the money hes gonna want.. but today was huge, our boys came through tonight..

Just rolled in from the Ravine. All I can say is WHAT A GAME! We did it kday01!

Maddux was UFB! (un [-] believable!). My heart was actually pounding with excitement. In all my years of attending Dodgers games, I have never seen a no-no live. And, of course, it had to be Giles that ruined it. He’s as pesky for the Dodgers as Gonzo and Helton.*****, I wanted to see the no-hitter. I will say this much, the standing ovation that Maddux got after the Giles hit sent chills down my spine. It was classy of Mike Piazza to step out of the box and allow the ovation to continue. My eyes began to well up when Maddux tipped his hat to the fans. It was a moment I will never forget.

In spite of not caring for the guy very much, Luggie-o was all over that ball tonight with the bat (3 for 4 with a HUGE RBI), but he boinked a dead bang DP that cost us the shut-out (wouldn’t that have been sweet). I’m betting that because of his hot bat tonight, Luggie-o gets the start at second tomorrow night, with Kent starting at first.

Drew’s RBI double to center didn’t miss by much. It was quite cool and the air was heavy, otherwise “She’s Gone!” (as Vinny would say).

Killer-T’s sac fly was also huge, as it gave us a little breathing room.

kssparkuhl – You are 100% correct on Mike Cameron’s outstanding catch of Ethier’s blazing drive. That was a web gem for sure (and right in front of me). If Cameron doesn’t make that play, Andre has a bases clearing double. It was good to see that Andre has his stroke back and had a quality at bat. He’s ready to get back in the game.

Got to hit the sack. I need to rest up for tomorrow night. If it’s okay with you kday01, I’ll do the rooting thing for the both of us again.

    GO DODGERS!

PS: Hey Grady – …you know.

    jesuispret@aol.com

yes, i know there is always more posts when the dodgers lose because a) it hurts and helps to vent; b) it’s another chance to second (and third) guess grady’s lineup/strategy and c) when they win, it feels too good to take the time to write 🙂

I know some people are always going to complain about why Maddux was taken out? Didn’t we pinch hit for him with Saenz up 2-0 runner on 3rd bases at the steal by Marion with less than 1 out. I’ve heard people say Maddux don’t care about finishing the game longer he keep his team in the game to win it. I think it was Maddux choice to be taken out.

  31. gilette30@yahoo.com's avatar
    gilette30@yahoo.com

I bet all those balls made him fatigue and he request to be taken out. Longer he’s goes through 7th complete innings without we seeing that pos Bomko. We should be ok.

Great Game tonight glad to see it played well all the way.The reason there are soo many posts made after a loss is that its usually a bad loss these days….Stupid mistakes made by veteran players and management is what causes the population increase here.We all see the Bigmistakes and the players not doing what we know they can do. Job was Well Done Tonight Hope Bills is Really Ready and not being brought back too soon. And for all The Lugo Fans Great job tonight Lugo! Go Blue!

According to the morning reports, Maddux was done after 7. Good job ’53. Be sure to wear the same clothes ( unwashed ) and eat the same amount of Dodger dogs. Hopefully you have the same seats.
    Again, great job!!!!!

  36. fansince53@yahoo.com's avatar
    fansince53@yahoo.com

Yep – Same seats all season long. I have only missed five home games this season (due to other commitments) but I will be there for all of the remaining games. I’m good with wearing the same (unwashed) clothes, but those around me might not be. Hopefully, they will understand.

We are having a Santa Ana condition here in the southland, which means high pressure and low humidity. This means that there will probably be some big knocks tonight (and especially at tomorrow’s day game). I just hope that they happen in the bottom half and not the top half.

If Billingsley can keep his pitch count down and keeps the ball down in the zone (unlike say Hendrickson, Tomko, and Carrara), then he will be fine and should be able to keep the Pads in the park.

Its two Dodger Dogs again tonight (with mustard and relish and a small root beer for me and ditto for my son = $27.50 – uggh!). I’ll make up for the excessive Dodger Dogs during the off season, when I have to go six months without them – double uggh!).

    GO DODGERS!

    PS: Hey Grady… (you know).

    Nomar Nostalgia

I was doing some surfing to try to get an update on Nomar’s injury when I came across this article from last year:

    http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9668965/

I had completely forgotten about this incident because Nomar was still with the Cubs at the time.

    Pretty cool, huh?

    GO DODGERS!

  39. kssparkuhl@msn.com's avatar
    kssparkuhl@msn.com

Nomar IS listed as day-to-day, but Grady said they’re waiting to see how he feels today when he arrives at the ballpark. If Nomar can’t go, look for Lugo to play second base with Kent moving over to first base instead of James Loney.
