I’ve told Tony several times that there’s a big difference between “fly fishing” and “fly catching.”

I am pleased the lineup has started to be more consistent. Need the horses in there. We can debate if someone else should be in or not or where someone should be in the order, but Grady does make those decisions on the best information he has available. I for one would play hunches or gut feelings, as I do in fantasy baseball, so I am pretty sure that is not the way to go. Go Dodgers. Go Stults. Maybe we will get one of those games quite often thrown at us by a pitcher in his first start.
Two things regarding Joey. First Joey, give the Dodgers and us the gears all you want. Some of us actually don’t mind it and at times see some humor in you assessments. But do it in your own name. Secondly, baseball is good clean family fun and for me one of the loves of my life. This blog has been a delight for me and I am grateful to Josh and others for making it available. I would ask you not to make crude remarks on the blog. Please. Just stick to baseball. Again, please.

Okay… so I get a little emotional during my posts. If Lofton truly bunted on his own in the first inning yesterday, then I owe Grady a huge apology. Maybe Kenny thought he could bunt his way on for a hit. Sorry Grady.

If you saw it yest. Lofton was very close to beating it out! I dont see nothing wrong with moving the man over in the first! If Nomar could of just hit that popfly a little further they would of cashed in Furcal..
That would have been 3 runs keeping the game tied. I really dont blame Grady for not having the faith in Drew, Kent, etc. to extend any inning into the collosal run scoring inn. you seem to think the Dodgers do very often. I mean when was the last time they scored 5 or 6 runs in an inn.?

Anyway here is to the Dodgers getting a couple of them strike 3 calls in our favor!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kevin. I’m from the old school I guess. Used to Koufax, Drysdale etc. in close games with a weak hitting offense so the bunt was extremely useful. I still like playing small ball and bunting guys over when we aren’t likely to score a lot of runs. I especially like to score first thinking one run is better than two or three left on the bases. A three run deficit can be erased one run at a time. I think we should be stealing more bases to set up a runner being advanced to third and score on a sacrifice. One of the biggest runs in the final game in 1955 came when Duke and Campy both bunted and a run scored on a Hodges sacrifice. Duke was fortunate to get on or Campy couldn’t have bunted. Go Dodgers. Score some runs, small ball, long ball, anyway, score some today to help Eric out.

I think we have a chance against Trachsel today, he has a respectable number of Ws, but he doesn’t look unbeatable.

We have to score a lot of runs, i’m not sure Stults can stop those Mets bats, but let’s hope he can !

This is one of those games i wish to end after 4-5 innings, luckily so far nothing to worry about…hey, Kent is running !!!

Wow….looks like the Mets have a kink in their armour, and it’s called Lefthanded pitching. I bet even Hendrickson could have gotten an out or two. Stultz looks like he has some poise and Lofton keeps getting the clutch hit. Good finish to the series so far.

What a turn-around that Rafael Furcal has performed! The dude is a stud! His huge play of the last three months has made a lot of us forget about that other guy who used to play short. Raffy’s been the most consistent player all year long. He’s got my vote for team MVP.

The Blue is matching up very well with NY. If Penny had pitched a bit better and things would have gone our way yesterday, then we would be talking about the Dodgers dominating the Mets. Anyway, that didn’t happen but I still think LA can match up with the Mets (“The best team in the NL”)… GO BLUE!

You’re right Kevin. I get TBS here so have watched a fair amount of Braves baseball over past few years. Raffy is playing now as he did at his best in Atlanta. Stults running the bases. You almost wish the pitchers didn’t get on but Eric is young. Shouldn’t tire as Maddux did yesterday. Go Dodgers.

Brady Penny: Are you watching this?? No really. Brad, are you watching Stults pitch? Do you see how he sets up his fastball and trusts his fielders to back him up? You could learn a thing or two from this rookie’s performance today.

we CAN play with these guys, as long as we only start rookies.. finally nomar has a good day, he’ll probably have a couple bad ones, and when we score all these runs, its hard for little to screw it up..

86 pitches. Stults probably finished for the day. Good man. Ray, did you see this one coming for Stults or did he sneak up on you too? Go Dodgers.

I’m so pleased for Eric Stults. Perhaps he can get another 2-3 good starts and the baseball world will include him in it. Not sure how he fits with Dodgers (Penny, Lowe, Maddux, Chad, Kuo) but will fit somewhere.
Maybe Greg will not play next year and Eric would have a spot. I hate the thought of big bucks for Barry Zito or someone. The monster deals don’t work out very well very often, especially for the Dodgers. How have Mulder (ERA over 7)and Hudson (ERA 4.85) faired this year with their big contracts?

Way to go Eric Stults!! Quality left-handers are hard to come by… so expect the team will have him somewhere next season.

i dissagree euhlman, i think we really need zito, imagine or a rotation of penny, lowe, zito, bills, and kuo, that would be siick.. but also keep an eye on daizuke matszuka, i think we have a really strong shot at him.. and i have to admit, i didnt see this one comming,

Nice game ( great game I should say ) by Stults !! Nomar is building confidence and Lofton is hitting in the clutch. All is good in Dodger land today !! Lets build on the momentum and build up for the SD series. It was really nice to see the Dodgers make the switch to the second and third string players, but I do worry we’re taking a lot for granted. Our bullpen doesn’t have the best reputation that a 9 run lead is a for sure thing. I would have liked to have seen the starters go one more inning, just in case. We now need to capitalize on a sub par team and not take anything for granted !!

Harold, I don’t think asking this bozo to respect anything is going to do much good. This guys only goal is to get attention, ignore him !!

    Go Dodgers !!!

Great start from Stults plus strong offense and this road trip now looks a bit better…i don’t care what those other teams doing in the Bay Area tonight, let’s beat the Cubs and head back home.

You’re probably right Ray. I go with my heart, not my head. Dodgers have had a poor record with free agents. One of first was Dave Goltz signed to a multimillion dollar contract in 1980. Lasted two years. Lost 1980 playoff game with Houston badly with Fernando sitting on the bench. Kevin Brown, Odalis Perez, etc. Penny is not what I expect for top dollars. Lowe looks like it sometimes. Poor record also with free agent hitters. I think the bulk of the team has to be homegrown with players driven by playing baseball, teamwork, not driven by agents seeking excessively high, long contracts. Having said that, the boys did it today. Except for a close call on strike three could have come away with three from the Mets. Well earned day off. Then off to play the Cubbies. Go Dodgers.

You’re right Gary but no harm in asking. SD-SF Sunday Nght game on tonight. Looking to see Joe Morgan explain again that catchers can’t run. Russell should pay attention to that or Joe, whom I respect a lot, should do his homework. Way to run Russell.
It seems to me Russell starts a lot of good things for the Dodgers. Go Dodgers. I almost can’t stand a day off. 18 games to go. You’re also right about the bullpen. I look for a bit more consistency. However, Hendrickson and Sele threw a good inning today. We now know the Met bullpen is suspect without Duaner there.

    Go Dodgers!!!!!!

Hey Bill Stewart – “I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right there!” Keep up the good work on D.T.

An outstanding outing by young Eric Stults indeed. Did you notice the confidence in his eyes? (Unlike – dare I say his name – Hendrickson). This kid will be outstanding. I just hope he is wearing a Dodger uniform.

Kenny Lofton hasn’t just become a clutch hitter; he has BEEN a clutch hitter all season long. I have a feeling that the Dodgers will make him another one-year deal for next season. And for all of you Nomar nay-sayers, he is back! He is having some quality at bats (although he still bites on that first pitch a little too often for my liking). I like what I am seeing in him in this final stretch and I believe that he will soar in the post season (yes, I think we will make it there).

I have to disagree with you a little Jon. I think that Nomar has extend his career by making the move to first base, not to mention that he is in contention for a Gold Glove there. (He is currently tied with Albert Pujols with a .996 FPCT – but Pujols has more innings and more Total Chances than does Nomar, which means that it will most likely [and deservingly] go to Albert).

I agree that there is no way that the Dodgers will offer Nomar a multi-year contract, but I do see them making him a one-year offer loaded with incentives and with an option year attached; Whether he would be willing to accept that or not will probably depend on how far the Dodgers go in the post season. I think that a World Championship would keep him in a Dodger uniform. Keep in mind that he is a fan favorite, the kids love him, and he fills the seats ($$$) at Dodger Stadium. This cannot (and will not) be over-looked by Frank McCourt and Ned Colletti (kind of like Bonds in S.F.).

As much as the Padres have dominated the Dodgers this year (and forever, it seems), I believe that we will take 3 of 4 from them during the final series with them at home next week. If they do, it will pretty much lock up the Western Division for them. (I know that this sounds like it is coming from my heart and not my head, but I think that our “New” starting rotation will get the job done).

    GO DODGERS!

Josh… What happened to that great photo of yours? Did Tony Jackson lose his sense of humor or something? It’s all in good fun, but to have it removed… that’s just not being a good sport about it.

By the way… Cody Ross hit three home runs today. 12 on the year. Good for him.

Kevin, I really liked what I saw in Cody Ross in spring training and was really disappointed to see him leave. I was lobbying then for a Lofton release. All said and done it would have been extremely difficult to count on two rookie outfielders at the start of the season. Given the success of Ethier it only makes sense that Ross was expendable. Still nonetheless another kid from the system is making good in the big leagues !!

I see Grady is stacking the rotation for SD, I just hope we’re not taking the Cubs for granted !!

    Go Dodgers !!!

Absolutely inept. That’s all I can say about this team! The same old tired, predictable and horrible offense. Nobody is stepping up to take accountability, not even the retread head coach. How many times will this team be shut out the rest of the season? Only time will tell… all I can say is that I’m about to FINALLY jump ship. I can’t take it anymore! Can you say obsolete?? I want to support a team where its fans don’t pretend it’s Halloween on every flippin’ Sunday! Just give me a game jersey and a hat and I’m good! What’s with all the stupid get-ups?? What you are trying to compensate for with those silly costumes cannot make this team a contender, now or ever! The Raiders stink, and I’m not taking it anymore!!

    Ooops, sorry… wrong forum. :o)

    Go Dodgers!!
