Bummer about Kent…. Just heard F.P. Santangelo say on the Giants Pregame show ( I live in SF) that “…the Giants are the best team in the west by far and they are going to run away with the division for sure”

Welcome to the club, Billingsley – just served up the HR to Bonds. This kid just is not a major league pitcher, and they ought to send him back where he belongs. It is really sad that he’s the best we have to bring up from the minors. There have certainly been 22 year old rookie pitchers who made an impact at the major league level, but I don’t see where this kid has anything going for him.

Billingsley has some stuff, hes going to be ok, but I agree hes not ready. He also wouldnt be the first over hyped Dodger farm pitcher… but he should be ok. Nasty curve- decent fastball. Give him a little time. Heck- giving up a dinger to Bonds is nothing to be ashamed of.

This is the first time I could say I really like the way Bills is pitching. He is pitching with confidence and isn’t walking people at an alarming rate for once. Yes he is giving up runs but not the cheap ones he had been giving up after successive walks and so forth. I think he is becoming more and more ready the more he pitches. This outing the kid has a lot of poise and is mixing his pitches very well. I think by 2008 he will be the ace of the staff no questions asked. He has that type of stuff.

Billingsley’s success seems to depend on his fastball velocity. The Bonds HR pitch was 93, but he’s hit up to 98 before. Consistency on his fastball’s velocity is his biggest problem, because his curveball’s great.

Of course F.P. Santangelo say on the Giants Pregame show, said that. He’s a part of the Giants organzation. But it’s obvioulsy not even close to true. Will be a power struggle all year. If the dodgers ever get healthy, even somewhat instead of all the injuries they incur every year, and than of course play up to a 1/3rd of their potential, they could run away with the league.
