Today's game and Nomar

I’m back at the stadium, so thanks for everyone’s patience with the lineup over the weekend. We really need everyone’s help to get Nomar to the All-Star Game! Every year there are people who get snubbed, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone hitting .360 not make it. Be sure to vote as often as you can, as this really is your last chance to help show the rest of the country what kind of fans we have in Los Angeles.

As for today’s game, Grady shook up the lineup a bit. Here it is:

Lofton, CF

Izturis, 3B

Nomar, 1B (vote)

Drew, RF

Kent, 2B

Ethier, LF

Furcal, SS

Martin, C

Lowe, P

YES! Finally Furcal in a spot that will limit the damage his overswing is causing. Props to Grady to not let Furcal’s huge contract dictate where he hits in the lineup. Now if we could only have a designated thrower for him.

    My Five Points
    1) It’s another day, and this time Ethier can do “that Oakland thing.” He struck out against Anaheim a lot yesterday, and they’re used to dealing with “that Oakland thing.”

    2) I like Furcal down in the lineup, because he’s a better hitter with runners on, and has more pop than Izzy or Lofton. He can still be a good catalyst to steal with Martin at bat.

    3) I’ve started voting for Nomar, and I’ll keep clicking until I can’t anymore. For the AL, go with either one of the rookie pitchers on the list – Verlander or Liriano – as they both deserve it.

    4) The last time the Dodgers faced Juan Cruz, he was a reliever that followed Russ Ortiz and Jason Grimsley, two pitchers no longer with Arizona. Derek Lowe on the mound with three shortstops on the field gives me a good feeling today.

    5) Matt Kemp isn’t the best he is going to be, which means he’s going to be amazing. I think, definitely by next year if not the trade deadline, the Dodgers could afford to trade JD Drew, maybe to upgrade pitching, and that they could play well with an outfield of Ethier, Kemp, and Repko.

I’d like to have us concentrate on trading either Drew or Furcal, or maybe even both, rather than give up our future talent – definitely not Ethier, Martin, Broxton or Kemp. Doing without either one or both and having a qualified first line starting pitcher would be a good trade-off, as long as we have him guaranteed for several seasons. I also don’t see batting Drew in the cleanup slot, as he’s showing no power. It’s also good to get Furcal out of the leadoff slot.

This lineup should shake these guys up. I’m sure Furcal is pissed !! I to would like to see Furcal & Drew go for a front line pitcher, but that isn’t the way the trading deadline works. Teams willing to unload quality pitchers are not in the market for large salaries !! With that said I think we really need to push for Maddux !! This guy knows how to win, he’s unquestionably the smartest guy out there and will make the most for what we have to give up !! The other choice is to hold firm with what we have and start looking at next year !! I for one am good with either way. This year has been terrific seeing the kids come up so even if we don’t see any moves it’s a great year to be a Dodger fan !!
    Go Dodgers !!!

I have to take my weekly shot at Steiner because I think one of these days McCourt is going to see the light and the errors of his ways. This guys is the worst announcer the Dodgers could ever have. He’s arrogant, obnoxious, demeaning and an embarrassment to this great Dodger Franchise. This guy should never even be allowed in the ballpark. Ship his butt back to NY and let them put up with his antics.
From A True Blue Dodger Fan !!

    Go Dodgers !!

Gary not sure what the price for Maddux would be. He would probably be a rent a pitcher for this season. His stats are not Maddux like. ERA 5.00 so he might be on the downhill slide in his career. I really don’t want to see young Dodgers moved for a temporary solution which would probably fix part of a problem. Even with Nomar on board I would not like to see Loney go. He is only 22 and hitting up a storm. Just waiting for his power stroke to develop. It seems to me the move that might be enticing to competing teams would be a shortstop. Blue Jays for instance with Glaus playing short. I know it is hard for management to be patient but you are right. It is fun to watch the kids play.

Good to see furcal thriving in his new spot in the lineup…striking out on three called pitches.

He had an RBI single later. Too bad Kenny Lofton didn’t wait for strike two after Derek Lowe was walked on four pitches.

Ned HAS called Hendry in Chicago and inquired about Maddux. The Cubs will deal him, however, they want Ethier. NO WAY, do not trade Andre for a rental of Maddux for a year.

questions when did he call him about madduz ethier and where did you hear this at ??????????

if we have to have maddux, what about d.young who could help chicago now, in left field, and in the future at second base, and a lower level pitcher maybe alexander who is having a great year at jackonville?

I live in Chicago and the report about the Maddux trade was on ESPN radio by their baseball reporter.

Maddux does NOT have a no trade clause in his contract. He has publicly stated that he will allow the Cubs to make whatever decision they need. Hendry the GM has stated that he will only trade Maddux if he is okay with the trade. I am just not sure that Maddux is anything more than a good number 4 right now. I think Repko and someone else could get you a better starter.

NO to Maddux for Ethier !! Maybe Aybar, but no to Repko. Repko is a gamer and we don’t want to lose that !!!
What was AZ doing throwing at Nomar ??

Great Win Dodgers !! Keep it up tomorrow !!

I feel most of us also follow the minor teams, and with all the kids we are using at l.a. that causes promotions to higher levels. that and with that teams injuries, causes some players being rushed, which results in losing records for the monors. June seems to be a bad month for our teams. if after the all star break kemp goes to triple a will help las vegas, he is a super star in waiting, needs a bit more time . if a trade for a pitcher sends billinglsey to aaa. that will help l.v., some other downward movement helps the minors as well. I know l.a. is the major goal, but we also need to balance the minors to keep the teams of those towns coming to their games.
balancing what is best for all the teams would be a hard, but fun job. protect the future, trade those who are blocked by better players, and look at free agents next year.

Good win. Kuo still can throw strikes, and when he does find the plate the ball travels at a high rate of speed to far away places. Please send Kemp back to AAA so he can learn how to hit a breaking ball… He’s starting to remind me of “Pedro Cerrano” (Major League).

How long must we continue to suffer??? Charlie Steiner is heinous..release him, please!

Please do not give up ETHIER period. He was the best trade that we’ve struck in quite some time, and he is a first rate player waiting to get just better. He will be a Class Act for us for years to come. You don’t trade that away.

Ooops… posted this in the wrong place last night:

Nomar is a class act! Dude gets hit three times and doesn’t go after the pitcher?? Heck, I get hit three time, and have my head targeted, I’m running to the D-Backs bench to club Bob Melvin with my baseball bat! To have Nomar get right up and run to first each time was just epic! The man is a true class act and it is truly sad he didn’t get voted in to make the All-Star team. Luckily he gets a second chance at that. Hope he gets there.

a little confused about grady little. applaud the team meeting and the lineup shakeup and the extra fielding practice (like mlb teams take fielding practice anymore, anyhow?)

but i thought he said the lineup shuffle was not just temporary, and i read now that furcal is going back to lead-off..

    what’s up with that?!?

as far as maddux, i would do it for the right parts. agreed, he is a stop gap, one year rental at best. but i wouldn’t give up ethier, mayber aybar.

and for the fans who hate charley steiner, i had to suffer through the angels broadcast team over the weekend on the dish…oh my gosh, i wanted to kill rex hudler. that guy

    is brutal..

    qban90277@yahoo.com

Hey Rex Hudler and the other monkey are ****** and they know it… The problem with Steiner is that he thinks he’s Aristotle! Since it’s the 4th today, Monday should save the day again and rip away the microphone from him a la the stars&stripes…

We need starting pitching that will go longer than the required 5 innings, we need a bullpen that won’t self impode, and we need either J.D. Drew (“Mr. Fireman schedule”)and Kent to start putting up some power numbers or to get ourselves another stick. Without these repairs we will not win a playoff series, let alone a pennant race.
