Today's game

My apologies that no lineup was posted yesterday. I’m actually not in Anaheim this weekend, so getting it up there in a timely fashion probably won’t happen much in the next day or so. But, since we won last night when I wasn’t there, maybe I should stay away for a little while anyway!

We already know that Mark Hendrickson and Toby Hall will both be starting today from Ken Gurnick’s latest article. Beyond that, hopefully you guys can live with Gameday this weekend, which posts the lineup about an hour early.

Sounds like Hall is approaching the team change with a great attitude, and I welcome both players to the Dodgers. Let’s hope that Tampa Bay doesn’t stick us on this trade the same way they managed earlier with Baez and Carter, although let’s hope that Baez may turn our all right yet. Looking forward to seeing Hendrickson in action in the Dodger Blue. LET’S SWEEP THIS SERIES!!!

  2. dreed209@yahoo.com

Mark has an outstanding breaking ball, if he can spot his heater he might do very well for us. Let’s go for 2 in a row, baby!! Dodgers own LA, not the Anahaeim Angels of Los Angeles.

Responding to Fisher928 yesterday re:Jeff Weaver.
No doubt about it, Weaver had meltdowns. I haven’t forgotten that. It seems at times Jim Tracy left him too long when things started to slide and he is not a number 1 starter to begin with. I think that most of the respondents to this blog love the fram system and want to protect it. That’s one reason why Weaver might be a reasonable option. The other is relative. Relative to Tomko, Perez, perhaps Billingsley, Weaver is not so bad. The last two years he has pitched 444 innings never missing a start, has won 27 games, has an ERA around 4.00, has 3 complete games and two shutouts and batted around .220. If his ERA was about 3.75 we would think the stats were quite good. He would have had more wins with better run support. Seems worth a try. Tried Seo, Tomko and kept Perez. Why not Weaver? It’s not a perfect solution but neither is trading the farm even for a hot rookie pitcher who has to earn his spurs for a couple of years to be considered a number 1-2 starter.

Lets make it 5 in a row against this Last Place Team! I was there Last night Way to represent Dodger fans we were the loudest and happiest go Blue get on a winning streak!!!!!!!!!!

  5. euhlman@bwr.eastlink.ca

Just checking on 2006 Dodger draft picks. Twelve among the first 24 selections are on rosters of Columbus or Gulf Coast Dodgers. That includes Kershaw, Mattingly and Morris. D’Alessio apparently is going back to college (#10). Waiting to see if Kyle Orr (top Canadian selection) and Alex White sign. Ethier loves to hit against the Angels. Hope he is in today’s lineup. Keep up the cheering for us at the games Diehardblue.

Josh. Can find lineup as you say one hour before if we want. Appreciate your faithfulness in posting lineups, offering tidbits and sites to find other articles about the Dodgers. A good number of posts lately so quite a few faithful Dodger fans are reading the posts daily. Thanks again for initiating this blog and maintaining it.

  7. cosmow123@yahoo.com

well based on his first three innings, I would say hendrickson is not going to be the answer. I know its soon but all of his pitches seem too straight and he does not look like he is a pitcher who can overpower a hitter.

  8. euhlman@bwr.eastlink.ca

Not a good start. Errors didn’t help but just not getting guys out. Comeback time needed today. Hopefully get to Escobar around 5-7 innings.

  9. marselease07@aol.com

there not really doin good in the clutch category today.a 9th inning rally would be awesome. COME ON DODGERS!!

  10. dreed209@yahoo.com

What’s the deal with Drew? He’s rolling everything over, not hitting at all. Yet he still hits cleanup….why? As much as I would love to pick up a number 1 starter, I wouldn’t mind seeing us grab a guy to put in that 4 hole. But, we all know that’s not possible, we don’t want to “mortage” the farm. Lol.

  11. dreed209@yahoo.com

And how about a new 3rd base coach too, the guy has no clue. We can package him and Odalis for John Shelby.

  12. fliegel@ptd.net

Just my opinion and I know a lot of you will disagree with me , but I think we were better with Aybar as a third baseman. Ceasar is a better defender and should be a late inning replacement , but this team was stronger with Aybar starting. He ‘s a much better hitter and has some power. wich Ceasar dosn’t have.

  13. garysmith@glsmith.com

Ugly game, I just hate seeing the Angels beat us, but I don’t think you can blame it all on Hendrickson. The errors killed us. I wasn’t impressed with Hall either but we need to give these guys some time to fit in. I would agree moving Drew he’s not producing the way a #4 should be. I also think it’s time to send Kemp down and bring back Aybar. The kid is pressing and it shows both in the field and at the plate. We need to give him some time to develop in Las Vegas !! I’d like to see Ethier in the # 4 with Martin #5 then Drew !! I kind of hope they take Weaver, it makes more sense then any trade involving one of our kids !!
Lets get it done tomorrow guys !!

    Go Dodgers !!

  14. patriotacts425@comcast.net

I’d think of this as Izturis’ spring training, and remind you that Kent and Furcal didn’t do much better than hit .200 when they started the season, and that Nomar hit the low .200 range in ST.

Incidentally, Furcal is 14-43 since Izturis returned. This is largely related to his continued recovery from nagging injuries, but it certainly helps that he’s got less pressure on him defensively.

  15. fisher928@yahoo.com

In responce to Euhlman you are completly correct in how he pictched and the way Tracy handled it. Sooo many Times I was screaming at the TV or Radio to Lift him because we HAD the Bullpen to save it. another issue and reason other then the High era not to pick him up he had his chance and a good Offer to stay and totally snubbed the Dodgers. I feel that he is self centered and money grubbing in the same way as Perez and has no place on a Quality team. In reponse and defence to Izzy he plays the field like nobody else Furcal is Markedly Better with him at third and His hitting will come back around but feel everyone should be doing more of the little things to produce runs need some more sacrifice attempts put the opps on the line to make the great plays.I’m Totally with the 3rd base coach not looking like he knows his job.
Before I looked at the thoughts for today I was thinking the same thing about our cleanup area needing a shakeup. They just are not producing the numbers that they are capable of and everyone seems to be outta sync. I also agree that Kemp as well as he did coming up now has the scouts on him and really needs glove work and more time to work on his stroke. Bottom Line is that we still need a Top of the line starter and a good reliever. Top Players are:

    Nomar

    Saito

    Either

    Penny

    Lowe

    Martin

    They Do a great job

Players that are ok but need to step it up are:

    Izzy(obp hitting)

    Furcal(Hit for avg and fielding)

    Drew (More RBI and power)

    Kent(Defence and Run production)

    Bullpen(Spot better and throw strikes)

Other Starters Get deeper quit walking sooo many

Phone Co Block all calls to or from Tampa bay from Neds Phones.

If we are to get real and have a real team to root for we need real trades that are agressive and productive otherwise we are going to be a .500 team who gets swept by great teams and kills bad teams.Weaver is just another throw away pitcher that we had limited production from we need another Great pitcher.

  16. messagebear@yahoo.com

Why not try Nomar in the cleanup slot and either put Ethier in #3 and Drew in #6 or switch Drew to #3. You need some power in #4, and Drew just does not provide it right now.

  17. thesaint9998@yahoo.com

Hendrickson and Hall are both not only stiffs, but old, expensive stiffs.

I did not like this move at all when I saw it, now I hate it. Don’t forget that Tampa Bay still gets “A Player to be named”. What a ripoff for us. Ned needs to stop making deals w/Tampa.

I know we have enough talent to trade for some1 like Willis or Maddux. Lets do it Ned. Stop beatin around the bush and gettin sheIsted by other GMs.

As far as the lineup goes. We don’t need 3 leadoff hitters in the lineup. Furcal, Lofton, and Izzy. I agree that Aybar made this team better offensivly. But Cesar provides much better defense.

As for JD Drew, he will come around. He isn’t seeing the pitches very well as of late. He usually draws a lot of walks and waits for good pitches to hit. But lately he has been swinging at bad pitches. Jeff Kent isn’t his old self either. He really isn’t connecting well on any pitches.

The deal Ned made for Eithier is looking better and better though. I really like this kid. I would not oppose moving him up to #4 or #5. But lets see if Drew and/or Kent start hitting.

  18. jesuispret@aol.com

is it me or why in the world was sele brought in RELIEF? when did this happen, and why follow him with kuo, (the human walk machine), with bases lodaded?!? why not broxton?

approaching the half way mark, and its still hard to figure this team. they are playing .500 ball, but appear to have the talent to be much better.

the relief pitching has been a major disappointment, and lost in all the o.perez flap is just how poorly baez has been. not only the several blown saves, but he just seems to be lost – i.e. he is not a closer and shakey, at best, as a set up man.

agree (nancy) drew has to vacate the four hole. i see the logic of going right/left/right with drew, kent and ethier, but why

not move kent up to the four hole.

also, is just me, or does the game usually seem over now when the dodgers fall behind by 4+ runs. i mean, the team just doesn’t seem to have any fight lately to battle back from early deficits.

  19. dreed209@yahoo.com

Baez is a strange case, considering he had 40+ saves for a team that only won 65. My guess is he expected to close here, especially if Gagne wasn’t healthy, but he didn’t consider Mr. Saito. Carter was considered a very good reliever, what happened to him?

Drew is still batting 4, for the same reason Furcal is hitting leadoff at SS. Ego. And Grady doesn’t want to hurt theirs, but in the process hurting the team. 3-4-5=Nomar,Kent,Drew since moving JD is surely not going to happen. Our leading power hitter is Nomar who missed a month, and although he’s hitting for average, 10 homers is nothing to get excited about. That say’s alot about our other hitters, mostly the veteran one’s.

The game IS over when we fall behind by more than a couple. And ususally it results in us giving up and getting blown out. Notice the majority of our losses are not close at all, kind of a disturbing trend.

Weaver would be interesting back here, he’s not a 1 but he could help the backend of our rotation for sure. Maybe we outta start looking at Honeycutt as one of the possible problems. I notice Russ always sets up low for the fastball, however I believe when Brad, Chad or any of our pitchers with that 12-6 curve are in we should try a few more heaters above the strike zone. That pitch is very hard to lay off, especially when you’ve got 2 strikes and u already have seen a good curve.

Chad goes today, let’s see if he figures it out at all. Need’s to finish guys off, and obviously throw strikes. Also Jae throws 4 TB today and I’m gonna watch it, I hope he throw’s a no-no.

  20. patriotacts425@comcast.net

Lineup for the Sunday game (from Gameday):

    Furcal – SS

    Lofton – DH

    Nomar – 1B

    Drew – RF

    Kemp – CF

    Ethier – LF

    Martinez – 2B

    Martin – C

    Izturis – 3B

  21. marselease07@aol.com

i think ethier should be batting 5th and kemp batting 6th since ethiers swinging a hotter bat.

  22. dreed209@yahoo.com

    Furcal
    Drew

    Lofton

    Nomar

    Ethier

    Kemp

    Ramon

    Russ

    Cesar

    my version of a shakeup.

    Go Dodgers!

  23. marselease07@aol.com

Yeah good lineup dreed exept drew doesnt need to be 2nd with how hes been swingin the bat lately. Other than that i tottaly agree with it.

  24. dreed209@yahoo.com

Angel’s score 1st run on a boot by Drew, then Cabrera flat out takes advantage of the rookie and steals home. Chad didn’t even get a throw off. Other than that he’s pounding the strike zone, but he need’s help behind him, and at the plate. 2-0….can we muster a comeback? 2 runs is a big deficit to make up, with the way we r swingin the lumber.

  25. messagebear@yahoo.com

I really don’t understand Grady’s style of managing, with another of our key players (Kent) having a day of rest, even though the DH slot is available. I don’t see Guerrero or any other significant Angel’s player getting Sunday off. Is this how you manage multi-million dollar players? What happened to the days of Ernie Banks, when you played TWO on a Sunday. Oh, but then I forgot what a “players’ manager” Grady is.

  26. drj884@yaho.com

This is lackluster, sloppy, embarrassment of game, series and team. Very disappointed in this team. There is no urgency, no emotion and seemingly no fight in this team- I dont really see how that can be. Im starting to wonder if Gradys “whatever” attitude is rubbing off on the team, its very hard to root for them at this point.

  27. messagebear@yahoo.com

Yes, this is a very sad game. I believe we have the best rookies, at least Ethier and Martin, but you see what a crafty veteran pitcher can do with them at this stage. I personally think that now that Izturis is back we should trade Furcal, and maybe throw in Drew, for a quality first rate pitcher. Today even Lackey looks like he might be a good choice. Maybe we can also get Scoscia in a swap with Grady. I too don’t see any inspirational quality in this Grady guy. Nobody seems to get fired up on this team. It may be no wonder that other teams were not reaching to make him a manager since his Red Sox days. Aybar could come back to play third, and Lofton looks like he would do better in the leadoff slot.

  28. dreed209@yahoo.com

hopefully this is just a rough spot, but we still need to make a move to improve this club. We have so many good young players that others covet, trading 1 or 2 wouldn’t be mortgaging the farm. We r beating a dead horse, but we need a spark. Perhaps Repko’s attitude and fire will help raise the spirits of the ballcub and it’s fan base. We are too often making average pitchers look like cy young candidates. Our team should be out front of this division, yet we are right in the pack with the Rockies, D-Backs, and Giants. Makes little sense.

It’s hard to imagine our record is very similar to last year at this time, and we have much better health and talent these days. Hmmm…… Go Dodgers.

  29. marselease07@aol.com

tough game for our rookies especially ethier.I hope he gets to start or even play in the next 2 or 3 games the way that grady plays him. I personally think he deserves way more playin time than kemp.

  30. marselease07@aol.com

If i were gm i would send down Kemp bring up Aybar when Ledee or Repko come off the DL. Put Izzy back at short and trade furcal for a good quality pitcher so Penny and Lowe can have some of that always have to win pressure taken off of them.

  31. dreed209@yahoo.com

Nomar deserves to be an all-star, I know we will all do our part, but I bet New Yorkers will stuff the box like usual. Expect to see Wagner, but hope for Nomar(and vote)!!!!

I thought Penny’s tantrum was very bush league, but without him having his finest year, we’d be in last place. Congrats Brad, represent us well.

Another runner sent home by Donnelly today, only to be out by 10 ft. With us struggling to score, we can’t afford blunders like that.

Chad pitched alot better today, still too many walks, but alot more strikes kept that pitch count decent.

Bobby Abreu would look great in a Dodger uni, but that’s just my opinion. So would Zito for that matter. It’s time to pony up a couple youngsters, it will take them, to pull off a useful trade.

LoDuca is an all-star again, congrats r in order…enjoy it now, Russ will be there next year and for many to come.

  32. patriotacts425@comcast.net

I’m going to be harsh here and say part of the reason we can’t trade the farm is that’s all we’ve got. We haven’t had a third baseman since Beltre left, and we won’t until Laroche hits the bigs, and that’s not even certain. We have outfielders for sure, but there’s a hole at the hot corner. Izturis is adequate as a shortstop, but his offense is not what is necessary for a third baseman.

I am going to make a plea to Ned Colletti to be bold, and consider the needs and capabilities of the club. Therefore, I’ll be bold and suggest the following:

    1) Trade JD Drew for Adrian Beltre. The Mariners could use a CF and they don’t care much for Beltre in Seattle.

    2) After blocking him, trade Andy Laroche for a quality starting pitcher, not a bad pitcher that’s having a good year. We should be setting our sights on Scott Kazmir or Felix Hernandez.

We will not get a good starter for someone useless. But we are loaded with outfielders to the point where we don’t need JD Drew.

We have needed Adrian Beltre, however, since Jose Valentin lost a ball in the chalk.

There is nothing wrong with throwing in Furcal if it helps acquire an ace starter, although we’d have to pay someone else his salary.

  33. jesuispret@aol.com

again with resting a veteran, this time kent?!? i would like to know how many times nomar, drew and kent have actually played together. geez, i know they are veterans but why couldn’t kent bat at least, esp since is your last chance with a dh.

and why not sit kemp against the righthander and bat cruz. kemp is pressing a bit and cruz is no superstar, but he is a switchhitter and probably had seen lackey

    before.

and why is it a national league team like the dodgers do so horribly in AL parks, even with an added bat?

this team is really, really tough to watch right now. don’t know who the team leader is, i.e the voice or soul of the club, but its time to grab this team by the throat and wake it up!

just watched a-rod hit a grand slam against the mets and lo duca got in his face as he crossed the plate…

we need a little fire or spark like that from someone. the rookies can’t do it. drew is a non-personality, furcal is too new and struggling. does that leave kent or lofton to shake this team up?

Let’s start with the rosy situation coming from Fernando Torres , chief economist at IPmetrics, retained by Mattocks’ side.
In his submitted report ( study here ), he appears at
points like Television ratings and ancillary revenue from a third-party web site called Sulia.com that pays for referrals.
Maybe the most intriguing (and of course, controversial) aspect of his report comes when he attempts to figure out what The Game ‘s Facebook
page would sell for if it was in fact for sale. facebook likes hack 2014

I opened this to get the final score in today’s game and I got everything but. . . .very disappointed.
