Kenny Lofton Clinic

I just returned from a great morning clinic at MLB’s Urban Youth Academy in Compton. Kenny Lofton hosted the event, showing youngsters how to run, hit, steal bases, field and pretty much all the fundamentals of the game. The event was hosted by Canon, so there was also a clinic by our team photographer, Jon SooHoo, who taught the kids how to take pictures (hint: it’s more than just point and shoot, if you want good shots…who knew?).

Canon is also the sponsor of Sunday’s photo day, where fans get to come down to the field and take photos of the players from 11:15 – 12 p.m., so be sure to get your tickets for the game against the Phillies.

Kenny spoke to the kids for a while about the importance of having a backup plan, since they won’t all be professional athletes. He pointed out that he got a college degree (University of Arizona) and that he’s got plans for after his playing career to continue to grow his post-production company. He’s already involved in it pretty heavily and if you want to read more, check out the first edition of Dodgers Magazine.

There was also tons of media at the event – just about every TV station in Los Angeles, but no newspaper reporters were on hand (at least that I saw). I know some of you asked for an update about that.

And, there’s still time to put in your picks for Tuesday’s draft for a chance to win four baseline seats to an upcoming Dodger game.

Any hopes that rumors of the Dodgers trying to trade for Greg Maddux are true? I think it would definitely solidify our staff given the inability of Seo to show any consistency.

I’m going to the game on Sat and Penny is pitching. I hope he has it under control and isn’t hurt !! I read that before he went fishing the next day he got spanked by Ned at a Double A Sun’s game. Sometimes the big dog has to bark to keep the boys in order.
    Go Dodgers !!!

Hoping tonight is the night for the Canadian connection – Gagne and Martin. Really exciting how the young Dodgers are playing. We have waited many years to see home grown players advance to the big time. Didn’t figure things would progress so quickly. Looking good for the future. Great job by the whole Dodger management team in assembling this group. Think some credit goes back to Dan Evans.
