Playing in the rain – Josh Rawitch

Tonight’s game is what Dodger fans are all about. It was pretty cool to see the fans that showed up tonight get into tonight’s game like it was a playoff contest. They sat through a 25-minute delay and a pretty solid downpour for much of the game to root on the Dodgers.

For their dedication and patience, someone came up with the great idea to reward them with tickets to an upcoming game, so fans can turn in their ticket stubs for tonight’s game for Reserve level tickets to either the May 10 or May 22 games.

James Loney got a hit in his Major League debut Jae Seo pitched three innings in his Dodger debut.

As I mentioned in the pregame blog, Eric Gagne decided to drop his suspenion appeal and serve his two games now. So Danys Baez came in and shut the door for his first save, sending the wet but happy crowd home for the night.

Boy, isn’t nice to get surprises . It’s been years since I think I said something nice about management but cheers, to the person or folks that thought of the free game give-away! These are the things that will stay in a fan’s mind and where loyalty goes both ways.
    Go Dodgers!

Penny looked strong! Great command on his fastball and that split-finger pitch was wicked! He looks in much better shape than he did last year…

Good overall game. Bullpen almost game me a heart-attack though!

Somebody asked about Cody Ross being on the ballclub: he’s on the team because Kenny Lofton is on the 15-day D.L. with a calf muscle strain. For a rookie, Ross looked pretty comfortable in his at bat. Dude looks like a ballplayer.

    Hey Josh,

I was there for opening day – we almost came back on that one! I wanted to touch on some things (some people have mentioned a few already).

    1) the umbrellas. I understand the safety issue, but forcing us to throw them away is ridiculous. Some of our umbrellas are worth more than the tickets. Also, my friend and I accidently walked in through the loge entrance where YOU COULD CHECK IN YOUR UMBRELLA, but when we went up to the Reserve Level, you were required to throw them away. Whats up with that? Do you get special treatment with umbrellas in different sections? Thats really not fair, especially if you want fans to stay for the game in the rain. And its not like we were in the “Cheap Seats” or anything – $22 a ticket isn’t cheap. Next time, there should be umbrella check-in for all…or no one.

    2) That’s good to hear that you gave tickets to those at the game on Tuesday.

    3) I understand that you’re trying to make the stadium more condusive to families, but I thought it was kind of whack that there is no longer a smoking section and now you must go OUTSIDE the stadium to smoke. I personally don’t smoke, but my friends had to deal with going in and out of the stadium. As opposed to the years before, there was at least smoking sections.

    4) I thought my friends and I were the only ones that thought this, but apprently EVERYONE thinks this; it’s all people would talk about next to me and standing in the concession lines: THE NARROW SEATS. Now I realize, why our owner changed allllll the seats. Its not really about restoring the park to its original seat coloring – its about putting in narrower seats to fit in more things around the park. It has to be. Why else would the seats be narrower? Im a small guy 5’7″ 150lbs, and im very much squeezed in. The man sitting in front of us was well over 170lbs, and he was struggling the whole game. This is unfortunate, because I know our owner isn’t going to change the seats AGAIN for another 10 years or so. But just to let you know, yah the colors are great…but the seats actually are NO GOOD. I wouldnt say this if it was just me…I heard it from at least 15-20 other people at the stadium.

    5) The cup holders are great. You have to drink a little bit of your beer before you set it down in the holder (they are slanted, so liquid will spill out if your cup is full), but other than that, FINALLY CUP HOLDERS!

    6) See you at the game tonight.

The umbrella policy is nothing new. It has been around for years at other stadiums (and is in the fan code of conduct). We just live where it hardly rains and are not used to it.

I did not find a problem personally with the seats and I am 6’3″ 220 lbs. but maybe it was different in other sections. And anyone who has ever sat in the bleachers will tell you that there is far less space there. I put their dimensions about the same as a seat on an airplane with less of a back rest. The fact is the seats are different as is everybody else there is no ideal seat for one person so learn to deal with it.

The cup holders are great and I had no problem with spilling but then again I rarely get back to my seat without at least a few sips (gulps).

The Stadium looks great and the site lines look improved. Lets go DODGERS!!!

my problem wasn’t with an umbrella policy, it had more to do with the fact that 1 section they had umbrella check-in and not at the other sections.

Also, its possible that the seats are different in other sections…but i highly doubt. I guess I have to just complain quietly to myself.

You think its going to rain tonight @ the game?
