Today's game – Josh Rawitch

Back in L.A., fans will get the chance to see something pretty close to the Opening Day lineup on KCAL 9:

Furcal, SS; Lofton, CF; Drew, RF; Kent, 2B; Garciaparra, 1B; Mueller, 3B; Cruz, LF; Borders, C; Sele, P;

What was interesting was our switch of today’s starting pitcher. Odalis Perez was scheduled to start, but Grady Little realized that Odalis is starting against the Braves in the third game of the season and he didn’t want them to get a good look at him right before they faced him for real. It’s "little" things like this that really do make a difference once the season starts and it’s "little" things like this that make me certain we hired the right guy in Grady. (Sorry for the bad puns, it’s early).

Although, I will never get over the Jeff Weaver ordeal,I will always call a spade a spade and winning makes a
heart breaking wrong decision tolerable!Thank-you and congratulations to our Los Angeles Dodgers for their gritty, character building and hard fought 3-2 victory over the always impressive gritty Atlanta Braves.Rafael Furcal is unbeliveable and Grady Little knows how to use the pitching staff and he is using the middle and long relief in all circumstances getting them prepared and ready for whatever comes their way!Fantastic job, Grady Little! It is like I am rooting for you always L.A. DODGERS BUT IS IS LIKE MY HEART IS TORN OUT BECAUSE WE DIDN’T KEEP JEFF WEAVER!

MCCOURT,COLLETTI,ANOTHER SOLID OUTING BY JEFF WEAVER GOING 6 INNINGS, ONLY 1 RUN,AND 3 STRIKEOUTS!I HOPE THIS HAUNTS YOU BECAUSE IF IT DOESN’T YOU REALLY DON’T CARE ABOUT ALL THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS FANS OR THE TEAM!I CAN’T TAKE MUCH MORE OF THIS!

You are probably the ONLY fan who cares about Jeff Weaver. Weaver came into free agency requesting $12.5 Million a year for 4 years. Then he came down to $10 a year (still too much for his streaky and high numbers). All he can do is pitch innings, how is that worth $10 million a year? That’s not even worth the 8+ mill he got for one year. We have a cheap Seo and a cheaper carbon copy of Weaver (Brett Tomko). Tomko puts up an ERA between 4-4.50 and 190 to 210 innings. He’s as streaky and as inconsistent. Weaver wont be haunting anyones except the pitching coach’s.

THIS IS TO K BIG 1.I FOLLOWED ALMOST EVERY SINGLE GAME LAST YEAR AND I KNOW HOW VALUABLE JEFF WEAVER WAS TO THE TEAM!I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SEO AND TOMKO, THEY ARE GOOD PITCHERS
BUT YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE ACE AND ANCHOR OF THE STAFF TOO IF YOU ARE TALKING WORLD SERIES!I AM NOT TALKING SECOND PLACE,OR THIRD PLACE I AM TALKING WORLD SERIES!YOU HAVE TO GO ALL OUT TO WIN THIS THING!LOOK AT THE YANKEES!DEREK LOWE MAKES 7 MILLION A YEAR AND HE WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO JEFF WEAVER LAST YEAR!DON’T YOU THINK BECAUSE HE SIGNED $8 MILLION WITH THE ANGELS WE COULD HAVE NEGOTIATED? HE WAS THE ACE OF THE STAFF!WHY MAKE THINGS SO HARD WHEN THEY COULD HAVE BEEN SO EASY HAVING FUN WINNING!THE BOTTOM LINE IS WE ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES,BUT WITH JEFF WEAVER AND THE REST OF THE STAFF WE WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY,VERY TOUGH TO KNOCK OUT!BY THE WAY IN JEFF’S LAST START. HE PITCHED 5 SCORELESS INNINGS!PLUS HE IS IN HIS PRIME AND I AM LOOKING LONG TERM FOR THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS!I GUARANTEE YOU JEFF WEAVER WILL HAVE A GREAT YEAR FOR THE ANGELS!IF I DIDN’T LOVE THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS SO MUCH,NOTHING WOULD BOTHER ME!BUT WHEN SOMETHING HURTS ME

BECAUSE I KNOW THE TEAM COULD HAVE BEEN FAR BETTER THAN THEY ARE I FEEL FOR THE FANS BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES THAT DESERVE THE BEST FROM MCCOURT AND COLLETTI AND THEY DID NOT DELIVER THE BEST! THERFORE THEIR HEART IS NOT IN THE RIGHT PLACE!

    To ndeschenes:
Every day you whine and whine about Jeff Weaver. I liked him too but is gone and under contract to another team. Your ranting will not change that. There have been many players over the years that I liked but left for various reasons. ( All the way back to Steve Garvey ).Baseball is a business and you need to GET OVER IT. Either quit crying about it and focus your energy on supporting the team, or become an Angel’s fan.

  6. k_big_1@hotmail.com

How do figure Weaver was the ace? Lowe and Penny BOTH had better ERAs. He had 14 wins, but he also had 14 losses. He is also horrible in the postseason with an over 5 ERA in playoff games. Those kinds of numbers don’t make you an ace of any staff.

  7. ndeschenes@worldtradecustoms.com

TO GREGG,THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MCCOURT AND COLLETTI ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE TEAM AT ALL COSTS AND THEY MISERABLY HAVE FAILED!THAT IS THEIR ONLY JOB!IT IS PREPOSTEROUS THE LACK OF WISDOM AND INTELLIGENCE HERE!THE REASON THEY GOT SEO AND TOMKO BECAUSE THEY KNEW THEY WERE NOT GOING TO SIGN JEFF WEAVER!BUT,IF THEY WERE WISE,THEY SHOULD HAVE SIGNED SEO AND TOMKO WITH THE IDEA OF SIGNING JEFF WEAVER TO ABSOLUTELY QUENCH ANY WEAKNESSES IN OUR PITCHING STAFF,STRIKING FEAR IN THE OTHER TEAMS!FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME,THIS TEAM HAD WORLD SERIES POTENTIAL WITH THE SIGNING OF JEFF WEAVER AND THE OTHER GOOD MOVES!WE SHOULD HAVE WENT ALL THE WAY BECAUSE THE WORLD SERIES QUEST WOULD NOT ONLY BE FOR THIS YEAR,BUT FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!THAT IS WHY I AM PRETURBED BECAUSE WE HAD IT,AND BECAUSE I AM A TRUE DODGER FAN TO NOT HAVE THIS EXCITEMENT IT IS SO HARD FOR ME TO HANDLE!DID MCCOURT AND COLLETTI NOT SEE THIS?

  8. ndeschenes@worldtradecustoms.com

TO K BIG 1!JEFF WEAVER WAS 14 AND 11 LAST YEAR!GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT!HE WAS THE ACE!IT WAS JEFF WEAVER’S BEST YEAR!AND HE IS GETTING BETTER!HE IS IN HIS PRIME!I LIKE DEREK LOWE!HE IS A GOOD PITCHER!WHAT I AM SAYING IS THAT THE STARTING PITCHING STAFF SHOULD HAVE STAYED THE SAME WITH THE ADDITION OF SEO AND TOMKO!THIS IS WHERE THE GRAVE MISTAKE WAS MADE!

  9. lukemccain@email2me.net

GET OVER IT!JEFF WEAVER WAS OKAY BUT NOTHING SPECIAL.HE IS AN AVERAGE PITCHER WHO WAS SEEKING A SUPERSTAR CONTRACT.HE IS NOT WORTH IT.IF HE WAS, HE WOULD HAVE GOT WHAT HIS GREEDY AGENT WAS ASKING.BUT NO OTHER CLUB CAME CLOSE TO ACCEPTING THAT DEAL.DOESN’T THAT TELL YOU SOMETHING?HE WAS NICE TO HAVE ON THE STAFF BUT WAS NOT AN ACE.HE WAS A JOURNEYMAN PITCHER WHO COULD PUT UP OVER 200 INNINGS BUT ALSO GIVE UP LOTS OF HOME RUNS AND POST AN ERA THAT IS NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT.I DON’T BLAME WEAVER FOR SEEKING THE MOST MONEY HE CAN GET SINCE BALL PLAYERS HAVE SHORT CAREERS.BUT IF HE LOVED PLAYING IN HIS HOME TOWN SO MUCH, HE COULD HAVE ACCEPTED WHAT HE IS WORTH.THE MONEY HE MADE LAST YEAR WAS $9,350,000. A FAN MAKING $50,000 A YEAR WOULD HAVE TO WORK FOR 187 YEARS TO EQUAL THAT SALARY!FOR A MEDIOCRE PITCHER? WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT A ROGER CLEMENS OR RANDY JOHNSON IN THEIR PEAK YEARS.WE’RE TALKING ABOUT A GUY THAT HAS AN AVERAGE ERA, IS INCONSISTENT, AND GIVES UP HOMERS.HIS MAJOR ATTRIBUTE WAS THAT HE DID NOT GET INJURED AND WAS ABLE TO PITCH OVER 200 INNINGS.NOT ENOUGH IMHO TO WARRANT A FIVE YEAR SIXTY MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT.LET’S FOCUS ON THE FUTURE AND ROOT FOR THE DODGERS.THE PAST IS THE PAST.GET OFF OF IT.

    To ndeschenes:
The bottom line is that we are sick and tired of your whining every day. Quit treating Weaver like he is some sort of GOD. If Jeff Weaver was not so greedy, he would still be a Dodger. It his own fault, not Colleti’s.

  11. ndeschenes@worldtradecustoms.com

THE BOTTOM LINE IS WE ARE GOING TO BE SHORT OF THE WORLD SERIES AND DON’T BE SURPRISED IF JEFF WEAVER WINS BETWEEN 15 AND 20 GAMES THIS YEAR!HE WILL WIN MORE THAN ANY OTHER DODGER STARTER THIS YEAR!

    To ndeschenes:

Please, for us, relax on the “caps lock” on your keyboard…its really unecessary.

I have to agree with all the other Dodger fans here. Im a fanatic as well, but let me tell you something that everyone has already told you: Weaver is not an ace. He’s good. We all liked him as a Dodger. Like someone said before, he was asking too much money for what he was worth. You’re wrong about us being able to negotiate with him. By the time he and his agent realized they’re not getting the money they were looking for, it was too late to come back to the Dodgers; we were already forced to move on and get other pitchers because we weren’t willing to pay $10 million plus. Stop treating Weaver like he was some kind of god – there are much better pitchers in our FARM – praise them.

Please stop talking about Weaver. He’s gone. I know you won’t stop, but I figure I’d ask as a Dodger fan to Dodger fan ( I believe other people agree with me) and Hope you grant our request.

Also, Colleti isn’t stupid. I got full faith in the guy…I think most of us do.

If we don’t go to the World Series, it won’t be because we didnt re-sign Weaver. It’ll be because of a host of other things.

One last thing, not re-signing Weaver isn’t the worst thing we’ve done. The worst thing ever is trading Pedro for Delino DeShields. If you’re going to comment about 1 thing everyday…make it that one. That was an ACE.

  13. jlopez75@gmail.com

Jeff Weaver is a piece of ****. He is way to inconsistant an unreliable. McCourt and Ned were looking out for the best interest of the Dodgers by saving a wad of money on Weaver. I bet you Weaver lovers like Driefort too. What a waste! Once the Dodgers take of care the position players I’m sure they will work on the pitching staff. No they wont win the WW but hopefully make it to the playoffs. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

JEFF WEAVER,DEREK LOWE,BRAD PENNY,ODALIS PEREZ,BRETT TOMKO,JAE SEO,ERIC GAGNE,DANNY BAEZ,YHENCY BRAZOBAN,LANCE CARTER,HONG CHIH-KUO WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST PITCHING STAFF IN ALL OF BASEBALL!WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME OUR LOS ANGELES DODGERS
COULD BOAST OF THIS!IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WORLD SERIES HERE WE COME NOT ONLY FOR THIS YEAR,BUT FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!
