Happy St. Patrick's Day
I hope everyone got a chance to watch the game on KCAL this morning and that some of you even got a chance to stop by Dodger Stadium for the Open House.
Given that it’s St. Patrick’s Day, it’s somewhat fitting that walteromalley.com launched a story today written by former Dodger Director of Broadcasting and Publications, Brent Shyer. The article is about Bump Holman, the team’s former pilot and the son of Bud Holman, the local businessman who convinced the Dodgers to move to Vero Beach so many years ago.
As for today, Tomko had another impressive outing and has really got a lot of people talking about his new delivery and how well he hides the ball. Let’s hope that will lead to great things for him this season, as he’s definitely deserving of a big role on the team.
That’s about it for now. Heading back to Vero tomorrow night and very much looking forward to being back where all the action is.

Thanks for the Info Josh, I’m sure you’ll find out the FACTS about Etanislao Abreu’s injury. It’s his left shoulder so i’m not to to worried.
“Abreu said his shoulder jammed when he hit the ground with arms fully extended in front of him. He was in noticeable pain on the field and said it was even worse as he was dressing to leave for the hospital. He said he had no history of shoulder injuries.”

The Rockies are reportedly interested in Mark Hendrickson and are shopping Byung-Hyun Kim. Ken Rosenthal had the story:

The Rockies are trying to upgrade the back of their rotation even as they’re shopping right-hander Byung-Hyun Kim. The Marlins and Dodgers are interested in Kim as a reliever while the A’s are pursuing him as a starter. The Rockies like Dodgers lefty Mark Hendrickson, and they’re in a flexible position with righty Josh Fogg; they could release Fogg in spring training and pay one-fourth of his salary ($906,000).

****, Kevin! I had no idea that they raised the parking fees at Dodger Stadium – and 50% no less. That su cks BIG TIME! It will now cost me more to park at Dodger Stadium than what BOTH of my season tickets cost me. (Jamie must need a new car).
I will definitely have to re-think this thing next season, that’s for sure. (I can only assume that McCourt will raise the ticket prices again next year, too). Not that the Dodgers give a hill of beans, but this will probably be my last year as a season ticket holder.
Now I’m in a rotten mood.

Re: Parking. I suggest everyone who thinks this is outrageous, to email the Dodgers directly and tell them that you are frustrated. At this address, you can fill in your information and tell them that you are frustrated with the parking situation. That they continue to raise prices w/o fixing the traffic congestion. As we all know, it often takes an hour to leave the parking lot after the game.

53, I gave up my season tickets this year because I just don’t have the time. Last year I gave away more then I used. Plus, the 40 mile drive one way during traffic time is a grind. Better to stay home and watch the game on TV. I’m sure I’ll go to a few games.I’ll tel you what I’m really looking forward to, I’ll be in Las Vegas for a week in May and plan on going to a couple of AAA games !!! Front row seats for what Dodger Stadium charges for parking. It’s great to see these kids that were on the bubble in ST working hard in AAA to get to the SHOW !!!

nkirby4, read McCourts last posting. He’s doubling the parking lot staff, redirecting the traffic flow and claims to be making improvements with getting out. It all comes at a price I guess !!! You can bet that it’ll be a nightmare at first. We can only hope it works !!

You’ve got nothing Gary… what I’d give for a 40 mile drive to Dodger Stadium. It’s an 836 mile drive for me, one way, if I plan on going this year!
Just curious… what was the parking cost in 2006? 15 dollars sounds like the post-season cost.
It was $10 last year for each game and they raised it for the playoff game against the Mets to $15. Preferred parking for season ticket holders is $14 a game this season, which is still too much per game by far.
Parking was $10 last year so it went up 50% this off-season. It’s hard to believe less than 10 years ago it was $6 to park at the stadium.
I’m guessing a lot of fans will think the increase is worth it if it means getting in and out much more efficiently.
I’m actually interested for those who know, or maybe Josh would have better access to this answer, what were the parking prices from 1962 until now. Where did it start and ultimately lead to this $15 rate.

im in long beach, i just hop straight on the 110 and its usually not too bad once you get on the freeway.
im in Bakersfield and i only have time really to go to 10 or so games a year. I wish i lived closer i’d go to atleast 20 or 25 games a year. It’s gonna get worse those. I might be going to school in fresno next year so thats an extra two hours.
hey 53, if i drive in from danville va will you throw in a dodger dog and a beer? only time i get to see the guys are when they travel to the east.
I’ll be happy if I can make it to Dodger stadium this year. I will get to see the Dodgers in April in Denver, which will be nice, and they are having a 4-game series in Denver over the weekend of my birthday which is even nicer, but I haven’t made it to Dodger Stadium since ’05. Saw Hee-Seop Choi hit a grand slam and Repko dive headfirst into the wall…my how this team has changed.
Max power, what school are you looking at in Fresno? It seems that about half of my family went to school there at one point, strangely.
P.S. If any of you is planning to travel to Denver for a game (Coors Field is a good park and you generally get to see the Dodgers win), let me know on here and I’ll get your ticket free. You may have to sit and talk with me, which is annoying, but a free ticket is a free ticket.

Hey sabre3 – It’s a deal! …well, sort of. My season seats are out in “The Jungle” (the Left Field Pavilion) where they do not serve beer (which is a good thing – it can get a little rough out there at times). That being said, I’m pretty confident that we’d probably be able to scrounge up a beer or two from somewhere, if you know what I mean. The Dodger Dog is a given. Just let me know if/when your plans bring you out here and you’re in.

Man I always had high hopes for Choi, but he just couldn’t put it all together. I used to love that chant: “Hee-Seop Choi, Hee-Seop Choi”. 2005 was a great season for the Dodgers, with Gagne’s consecutive saves streak and Steve Finley’s walk-off grand slam to beat the Hated Ones to clinch the west. Like the commercials used to say: “I LIVE for this!”

fansince53, you got your seasons mixed up – 2005 was the 71-win debacle, 2004 was the Gagne save streak and walk-off grand slam by Finley. Fortunately, I was still in California for both seasons and was even at the game the night BEFORE Finley’s walk-off – I had to be at a wedding the next day so I couldn’t attend, but I sat at the bar watching the TV through the whole reception. I’m sure the other guests loved me.
I’m glad the good times are back in LA though – ’05 had us doubting the organization and doubting the players, and regardless of whether you like Ned’s moves or not, this is a team that we can once again love to root for. I’m getting 4 tickets to every game of that 4-game Dodger series in Denver, and I project that it will be one of the highlights of my summer.

Yeah graffiti – it’s about 3 hours. Not an ugly drive either. As long as you have a car that can climb 11,000 feet 🙂 Do some fishing while you’re out here, too, if you’re into that. I’ve always fished and recently took up fly fishing, and there really aren’t many better places in the world for those sports.

I always enjoy watching the Dodgers/Rockies games at Coors Field on TV. There always seems to be more Dodger Fans there than at any other away ball park (well, except for Angel Stadium during inter-league play – one of whom is ME!).

Yeah, I run into quite a few Dodgers fans at Coors. I ran into a surprisingly large amount at Petco Park when I lived in San Diego from ’99-’05. Fortunately both Pads and Rockies fans are pretty laid-back since I usually come decked out in Dodger blue…I wouldn’t want to be a Giants fan at Dodger stadium, that’s for sure.
It’s dangerous just sitting near a Giants fan at Dodger Stadium – especially out in The Jungle! I used to feel sorry for them until I heard a story about some Giants fans who threw a Dodger fan off of a landing at Phone Company de jour Park. That’s just plain nuts. I take some heat at Angels Stadium while in my Dodger gear, but it’s nothing like Giants fans at Dodger Stadium or vice versa.
I am actually an Angels fan, too – EXCEPT when they are playing the Dodgers.
