Jackie Robinson Day in LA and across the nation
Each year on April 15, we take time to reflect on just what an incredible role Jackie Robinson played not only in the game of baseball, but in our society today. While the pregame ceremony at tonight’s game will be a moving part of the celebration, we are doing something else today that should really be special.
This morning at Crenshaw High School, 10 former, current and future Dodgers will take part in a panel discussion in front of the entire student body to help future generations understand just what this amazing Dodger and amazing person accomplished in his lifetime. Jackie’s teammate, Don Newcombe, will moderate the discussion, which also includes Tommy Davis, Maury Wills, “Sweet” Lou Johnson, Matt Kemp, James Loney, Marcus Thames, Tony Gwynn Jr. and Xavier Paul.
Trayvon Robinson, who went to Crenshaw High School, was excused from tonight’s game for Triple-A Albuquerque to take part in this event, which says something about how important today really is. As Jackie Robinson famously said, “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives” and 64 years after he first played for the Dodgers, he continues to impact us all every day.
Thanks Josh! Have a great #42 Day!
#42 will always have a special place in my heart.
A 42 win season would be very nice, because that would leave even more EMPTY SEATS than I can hope for, although I still think this team will win 79 in spite of what Ned has put together on the field.
In an extremely awsome season I would hope for 42 loses!
Josh – Thanks for adding this post and setting up a place to remember Jackie Robinson. In honor of this great day, I think it’s appropriate to compare and contrast the efforts and results of Jackie Robinson to those of Frank McCourt:
.
.
The impact on the Dodgers:
.
Jackie was obviously a great player. Beyond that, he kicked opened the door for other great Brooklyn Dodger black teammates: Don Newcombe, Roy Campanella, etc. etc.
.
Frank has done worse than jack-s&&t for the Dodgers. He hired Ned. He has decimated the minor-league talent. He has decimated the major-league talent. He has sucked money out of the Dodger franchise, just so he and Jamie could live lavish lifestyles.
.
.
The impact on baseball:
.
Jackie opened up baseball to all colors and creeds. This allows the best players from around the world to come play in MLB, making MLB a place where only the best can thrive – a true meritocracy.
.
Frank increased the prices at the parking lot. Frank has demolished one of the greatest baseball franchises and has brought it close to laughing-stock status.
.
.
The impact on society and the USA:
.
Jackie helped to fulfill what America should be, a land of equal opportunity for all.
.
Frank abused that opportunity, taking only for himself – a true robber baron of baseball. Not only that, let it not be un-said on April 15 (the traditional tax day), that Frank has not paid one lick of taxes in years – when is the IRS going to go after this guy?
Brilliant!
Bravo, SELLTHETEAM!
SELL THE TEAM!!!
Thanks Josh for a new thread. I am wearing my Jackie Robinson at work today and heading to the game afterwards.
I always look forward to Jackie Robinson’s day at Dodger Stadium. To me is equal with a National Holiday.
.
Thank you Jackie! your breakthrough had an effect not just on baseball but you paved the way for a change in American society.
Today, in honor of Jackie Robinson, make your life important by having a positive impact on the life of someone else.
I know legal matters move slower than glaciers, but when the hell is SOMETHING going to be decided about this once-proud franchise and its true ownership? Jamie, please gouge your soon-to-be ex to the financial hilt so we can be rid of you both.
I’ve been saying for a long time now that we have 2 ways of getting rid of mccourt:
.
1) Dropping attendance far enough to force him into bankruptcy
2) IRS audit
.
Now (unfortunately), we have a third way. Albeit, it’s kind of an ammendment of #1. Perhaps Mr Stow can sue him for enough to drive him out.
.
But we can assist the IRS a little, perhaps. Report him:
http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=106778,00.html
.
I am. Believe it.
Give it time. I heard yesterday that the family is just totally focused on Mr. Stow right now. The lawsuit will likely come, but all in due time.
JOSH,
.
I’ll never ask this again, but if you could be so kind as to moderate my comment “awaiting moderation” discussing Jackie Robinson and his impact on the nation before gametime, I’d be VERY thankful.
.
Thanks,
John

Peaceful Setting for Jackie Robinson Day
.
Wasn’t it a great and peaceful game yesterday? Lots and lots of blue and nobody hurt whatsoever. A great lead-in to tonight’s #42 game.

Yeah it might help if we stop attending Home games or report him to the IRS. But is it really? There are so many people that work there a Dodger Stadium that need the check to survive. Frank will most likely cut jobs before he claims bankruptcy. Who knows? Maybe the employees are the ones that need to protest and of course the fans can join and help! But who knows? He can sell the team, but what if he does and the team gets relocated to another stadium? Or what if the next honor is an even bigger A**Whole? We do need to be careful what we wish for. I don’t what exactly needs to be done to improve Dodgers future, but I do BELIEVE that if we ask GOD for his help and put the future of the Dodgers on his hand…he will help. NOW IF YOU ARE NOT A BELIEVER…JUST SKIP OVER THIS. But I feel that with little prayers things will get better. I’m sure some of you are already. But everyone is welcome to join me.
“I pray for GOD to please help the situation with the Dodgers Oranization. I pray for ownership to improve. I pray that if the Dodgers is to remain under the ownership of Frank, then I pray for Frank to open his eyes and have a change of hearts so that he realizes that Dodgers is not for personal use BUT for him to share with the employees, the players, the fans and the City of Los Angeles. I pray for Frank to learn to love and respect BASEBALL. If a new owner buys the Dodgers, then I pray for him, her, or them to be a great fan of the game, have great love for baseball, respect the players & employees, care for the fans and still be a successful business person(s). God please please improve security at Dodger Stadium and restore the family atmosphere it once had. And if you have time please God improve the Pitching situation! And God I know this will require a BIG MIRACLE but can the Dodgers win with 94 games (OK OK I know, now I’m asking for too much). I understand that these changes could take time, so God please give me (us) patience….AMEN!”
You suggest it may be better to live with the A*hole we know rather than take a chance on another A*hole that we don’t know, and that may be good logic. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll take the big risk and chance it with a different A*hole – I’ve sure had it with the once named FRANK.
Josh: Why in the world is Donnie batting Jamey Carroll 8th? Against right-handers, Carroll should be batting 2nd and Blake should be batting 5th. At least until Loney remembers how to hit.
.
Rosie – I do believe in the power of prayer. I also believe that God helps those who help themselves. I cannot believe that Frank will get any better. I will be praying for Frank’s revenues to dry up and for the team to be sold to a better owner.
Believe me, I know to be careful what you wish for, but honestly Frank is as low as you can go, so any new owner by definition would be an improvement.
Yea – He and the owner of the Mets have to be the two worst owners in baseball history, if not all of sports, and out of the two, I am siding with Frank as being the worst because we are closer to how horrible he is.
It looks like we are italicized now. I am not sure if that is better or worse than being bold.
.
Not sure why Carroll is not batting 2nd either. Some positives to look forward to is Andre continuing his hitting streak and possibly getting his 100th home run. He was mentioned on MLB today and how he had a great start last season before his pinky injury.
Kemp is such a monster that it burns me with Donnie batting a guy at #5 (Loney) who has been hitting just below and just above the Mendoza line since August 1, 2010.
Could it be that Josh is trying to SLANT things in favor of Frank?
It could be, Enchanted 🙂
St. Louis (6-7) hit .216 and totaled 21 runs while losing six of its first eight, but has hit .363 and scored 46 runs while winning four of five.
Ouch
Good Evening All…
.
Let’s get a win streak started, Boy’s!!!
.
Go Dodgers!!!
.
Enjoy the game everyone…
As we all know, today is Jackie Robinson day…it is also the day the Titanic sunk. Intersting, and fitting, isn’t it? 🙂
Like leading lambs to a slaughter…
Who is the long releif guy, at the moment?
Holy crap..how many more runs is Donny going to allow Garland to give them?!
Looks like my Robinson tribute was denied/floating in Moderation Limbo. Sad.
.
Not as sad as this slaughter, though. Yeesh, I was hoping for the Mariachi and Ranchero bands to chase Rick and Charlie off the airwaves on the way home. No luck there either.
.
Nice to see we were able to get Pujols back on track.
Can Loney pitch and bat in the 9 hole please.
.
Give me a break!!
Too funny…I just put it out there that if we lose tonight, we’d already be 5 games behind the Rockies…somebody said..”I just expect to lose every game, that way I won’t get mad!”
RALLY TIME BOY’S!!
I don’t know about the rest of you, but with our gifted line-up I think we’re going to be able to battle the Snakes right down to the wire this year.
I think you are right!
Look out below!!!!
This team’s so far down the toilet it has to look up to see the Tidy Bowl man.
Glub, glub 🙂
Vinny just said attendance was 36,282….tickets sold, maybe…but, no way were there that many people in the house!
🙂
Maybe Frank’s now starting to reap what he’s sewn.
When do the Dodgers get a turn to take batting practice?
I know! It sure looks like the Cards are!
Meanwhile, at my son’s high school game, they took batting practice and defeated their cross-town rival 11-1 🙂
Brag, brag, brag
I meant to add 🙂
That’s terrific Nells!
Alright Nelly!!! :)))
Oh, oh, Enchanted…somebody on Facebook stole your brown paper bag 🙂
This team stinks so much even a vulture wouldn’t pick its carcass.
But Ned continues to pick his a**!!!
Its the only way he can scratch his head Wally.
LOL!!!
Thanks!!!! I see we are still slanted.
Well, this is probably the biggest turd of a Dodger team I can remember. Hopefully Kershaw can get’em tomorrow so we don’t get swept!!!
I think we can catagorize tonight’s effort as a floater.
Let’s just hope attendance plummets. Its really the only way to show Frank how the fans feel about this embarrassment he puts on the field.
Well, the MLB Quick Pitch report was all about Pujols and his two jacks, along with Berkman’s. The only positives they could say about us is Andre’s 12-game hitting streak, and Kershaw is pitching tomorrow.
Thank goodness Ned got us Uribe though or we’d really be in trouble.
Notice how the gnats aren’t missing him much.
For three years no less!!! Geez!!! I mean, it was painfully obvious how inept Ned was, but this is just criminal!!!
What I notice is that this team doesn’t win much when the other team doesn’t help.
want to clarify that I want the Dodgers to win 42 games. And only 42 games. That’s how many times they play SD, SF & Anaheim. I’ll share the same prediction I gave in the spring to my work pals: 72 – 90 will be their record. And now that may actually be optimistic. This team doesn’t look as good as the ’92 team that very nearly lost 100 games. That team had Brett Butler fashioning a nifty .413 OBP, Eric Karros hitting 20 HRs (the only Dodger to hit more than 6), a rotation led by Orel Hershiser with 4 of the 5 starters registering ERAs under 4 (and the 5th one – Ramon Martinez at 4.00) but no one able to win more than 11, Daryl Strawberry and Eric Davis missing tons of games to the DL.
.
Tonight’s attendance: 36,282
.
2010 attendance (6 games) – 284,804
2011 attendance (6 games) – 263,109
From The Times’ run-down of tonight’s game:
.
“At least not that many Dodgers fans had to endure the ugly loss. What was announced as a crowd of 36,282 seemed to fill only about half of the 56,000-seat ballpark, with large chunks of empty seats in prime locations.
.
In six home games, the Dodgers have averaged 43,852 fans per game, a decrease of 3,615 from the same point last year.”
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0416-dodgers-cardinals-20110416,0,3383739.story
More fodder for the Stow lawsuit:
.
“But several LAPD officers and senior police officials said the departure of uniformed officers significantly changed the atmosphere in Chavez Ravine by undercutting the ability of the remaining security staff to deal with confrontational fans.
.
The situation was compounded by what police have said is the increasing presence of gang members at Dodger games over the last several years.
.
“I lasted two games,” said one LAPD officer, who stayed on briefly at the stadium after uniforms were eliminated. “It was crazy. These gangbangers would be drunk, defiant, cursing us out when we tried to kick them out. They had no idea we were cops. We had no leverage on them. There is no authority in a polo shirt.”

Hey north! Try busting up your post into smaller segments. My first try at the above was in one long post with fancy italics and stuff.
‘
“Moderation”
.
Then I tried it again in one piece, with a new first sentence to avoid the “It looks like you just posted that” crime, but without the italics.
.
“Moderation again”
.
Then I just cut-and-pasted it in 3 sections. Success.
.
I’d like to read your Jackie Robinson post.
Isn’t’ everybody proud of our little Donnie? He’s doing such a great job, of actually taking scrubs and turning them into, well, scrubs. But the best part is he’s getting managerial experience, and it’s costing boss very little compared to Torre who was making 4 Mil for turning scrubs into scrubs.
Last night’s loss was ugly but we all know it was the umpires fault. I just want to thank all of you true Dodger fans for continuing to come out and support us. After all Boss needs another new mansion, and I need a new toupee. Thank you.
CHEERS, CHEERS as the team exposes itself and settles in the standings in a place they can be comfortable for the rest of the season. It’s a good thing that there are many EMPTY SEATS, and hopefully those will grow and grow as we advance into the season.
*
At least we can look forward to seeing Sands before too long, because “what’s to lose” and maybe a few others who are at least fresh and exciting to watch (on TV, of course).
*
As long as we’re in a rebuilding mode, why not just let Andre and Matt depart early to somewhere their talents can actually lead to a post-season role. They deserve that, and, of course, they’ll be gone anyway as soon as free agency is available. The caveat, of course, is that Ned wouldn’t have the faintest idea who to get for them in a rebuilding effort, since his radar is out only for those over 30.
*
In the meantime, lets keep watching and cheering those EMPTY SEATS.
Bear ~ you will be pleased to know that even though the supposed paid attndance was over 36,000….somebody who was there said he’d bet there weren’t more than 15,000 in the seats.
Security cost are mounting as well.
I might add, on Jackie Robinson Day with fireworks after.
.
And, yes, security costs are rising 🙂
Against the Red Birds nonetheless!
Good Morning All…..
.
This losing thing is far from fun.
.
Any chance Frank can talk Jamie into heading to Venezuela, armed with a new pre – nup ( Wink, Wink ) to pick up Belisario, literally.
For fun, let’s see if I can stop the italics…. any luck?
now?
You know you are supporting an exciting team when my priority is trying to adjust italics…post-game Dodger talk was an “excuse fest” held by the two hosts, stating that 14 games isn’t a large enough sample size to make any statements about Ned’s work as a GM or this team in general. Fair enough. I agree….they won’t finish last. Maybe………………………………….
They are kidding themselves!!!
They sure are!
Good God, we’ve seen Ned for 5 years!! He’s a baffoon and way below average by any baraometer!!! Geez, what a couple of gomers!!!
If you haven’t noticed, anyone who has become critical about the Dodgers on Dodger Talk, doesn’t last very long!!! I imagine these gomes just want to keep their gig!!!
How can anybody with Ned’s record of “accomplishments” have lasted five years? Only in the disfunctional ownership situation. Of course, he’s now trained and well prepared for some high ranking government position where wasting money is an equal accomplishment.
If we don’t win tonight with Kersh on the mound, I think Dodgereric’s prediction of 42 wins is an overstatement!
When your owner is a con man and your GM is an inept G’nat throwaway, what can you realistically expect?!!!
I kind of expected Andre, Matt and James to provide enough offense for our stellar pitching 🙂
I realistically expect Matt and Andre to be playing fir different teams next season at this time, if not sooner. Their talents (and Kersh) are being wasted right now, and I really hope they get the shot to play for a true contender because they so deserve it.
For 🙂
I wish Frank & Ned were with other teams 🙂
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/04/dodgers-could-soon-reach-financial-tipping-point.html
My buddy had a splendid idea…not to be morbid. Dress Frank up like a Gnat next time Gints in town and force him to run for it in a dimly-lit parking lot.
I imagined this song playing while reading your comment, heh.
I can’t help but wonder what Sands would be doing in the bigs.
.
I am just saying that he seems to have has a desire, to be like ” Mike” so to speak. He play’s LF, and is healthy.
.
Injecting new owners into the mix would do wonders, until then, a wide eyed youngster, who has been raking, might inject some sort of spark.
.
We need Padilla back strong, he has been a solid asset in the past.
.
Has Jamie landed in Venezuela yet?
.
Down the Hatch!
At this point, I'm not even angry anymore.
.
Just disappointed.
.
This year feels different than any year I've been a Dodgers fan. Everything's up in the air, and the one person who can do something about it one way or the other won't.
.
Not only the physical attendance at games is shrinking, also the amount of commentors here (though the amount of comments is about par).
.
One thing I will say for the current situation: What did you think was going to happen? By all rights, just about every win was handed to the Dodgers, and Pujols just exacted his will. Save the '09 NLDS, this is pretty much par for the course.
Was just playing on the radio, thought it fit perfectly:
.
I couldn’t take it any longer
Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
Like a tidal wave
I started swearing to my god and on my mother’s grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!
.
So now I’m praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don’t think that I can really survive
I’ll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I’m praying for the end of time
It’s all that I can do
Praying for the end of time, so I can end my time with you!!!
.
It was long ago, it was far away
and it was so much better than it is today…
Wow terrible news for the Nats organization. Nationals prospect, 18, dies of meningitis in DR

$1,000,000 Vicente Padilla
$150,000 Brad Ausmus
$125,000 Octavio Dotel
*$17,350,000 Total
Frank only has Neddy to blame when he writes out these checks to add insult to injury!! LOL!!! Wake up Frank, fire Ned!!!
Wonderful, just wonderful 😦
<a href="http://www.truebluela.com/" Kuo to the DL
Kuo to the DL
Crap 😦
Spent some of the afternoon watching the old Eastwood movie “Hang ’em High”. Gave me a great promotional idea for really packing Dodger Stadium… Mmmm.
Mmmmm is right, Bear 🙂
Wow — it just keeps getting worse. I thought it was bad when I went to bed last night. This is going to be one ugly season on & off the field. Let’s just enjoy Vin and maybe seeing a few prospects come up and deliver as well as the successful seasons that I think Matty, Kersh, and Dre might have.
.
Loney I think just doesn’t have any power. I had hoped it would develop after a couple of years but at this point I don’t think it will. He’s a great glove and a nice guy but he doesn’t have any power at all. He’s also really lost at the plate. Has taken some bad ab’s with RISP.
Speaking of Loney, Sands has also played some 1B with the Isotopes.
And the plot thickens:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/dodgers/2011/04/frank-mccourt-dodgers-fox-bud-selig-loan-payroll.html
This Fox-McCourt alliance needs to be investigated!!!
Unacceptable!!
Well said D4!!! LOL!!!
Frank has instituted a Lay Away plan.
Things are always darkest before the light.
Ah yes, Frank living his life with other people’s money as usual.
.
What the hell does he use as collateral?
No collateral needed @ K Mart….there is a small processing fee, if things go wrong though
Jamie ? 🙂
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!
Kuo to the DL is a killer… I can’t believe I’m giving up on the season 2 weeks in but I don’t see any scenario where we win the division
I agree!!! That is a big ouch to the bullpen and to the team in general.
Hello ladies & germs!!! Are we ready for another magical night of Dodger baseball???
LOL!!!! Like I think enchanted or jhall said, it is just time to laugh now. Also, like Collie just said, it is just time to enjoy the individual performances of Dre, Matt, Kersh, and Carroll (I like how he has stepped up so far), and look to see what young prospects get their day on the big boy field.
I agree Sands needs to come up.. He is certainly worth the risk of playing every day in LF I mean how much worse can he be then Gwynn/Thames?
That would be Gwynn/Thames/Gibbons.
And Hoffman.
After losing 4 in a row and with your ace on the mound at home.. tonight is as much of a must win as you can have on an April 16th
I am watching the gnat/Dbacks game, and how fortunate we are to have Vinny (and Rick and Charlie) compared to these two boneheads (Krud and Krap). They spend too much time analyzing what the managers and players (of both teams) are doing rather than just calling the game as it is played. My hubby even prefers to listen to Vinny because he tells stories instead of talking about what the manager is trying or not trying to do.
Kruk and Kuip will always be #1…
.
In their own humble opinions, of course.
.
Nothing but class, minus the “cl”, of course.
.
Vin grew up a Giants fan and exudes class.
.
Guess they left the class at Coogan’s Bluff.
No kidding!! What idiots they are!!!
Is anybody surprised that they didn’t score?
R.I.S.P. ~ runners in stuck position 🙂
LOL!!! Yep, Kemp failed with runner at 3rd and 1 out. Sad!!
Question – does Uribe ever make it to .200 this season?
You mean his weight? 🙂
No. That would be .300 🙂
LMFTO 🙂
He’s gotta be at least 95 more than that, E.
.
Oh wait, you mean batting average…
Another question – with this line-up and this bullpen, does Kersh finish with a winning record?
I think he is the only one who will….we have to win at least 15 or 16 games, don’t we?
I’m thinking he’ll be lucky to get to 14-12, 14-13. Team can’t score. Bully can’t hold a lead.
Looks like the outfield will get a workout again tonight. Come on Kersh!!!!
Way to go Kersh!!!!!
I see we need a submarine to find Barajas’ average now too.
You mean .190 isn’t good 🙂
I think Kersh will finish 15-12 despite being at the top of the league in ERA
Wouldn’t it be nice to beat a team like 5-1?
How can anyone expect this team to score when the best “hitter” out of 5-6-7 in the order has a .190 average?
Ned?
But then that would make Ned what? An idiot?
That was good……. NOT!!!
Stinks seeing that Frank got some more dough to keep him afloat. I just hope that Frank isn’t able to string this along until he gets a TV contract. Sometimes I wish we could cut loose Darth Vader on Frank! Or have Bobba Fett encase him in carbonite!!!! No I’m not a geek I’m just trying to get through the McCourt years without crying!!!!!!
MLB, Selig, and the other owners need to step in and shut this con man down. Hell, get congress and the IRS on it. Frank is making a mockery of them all and a laughing stock of our Dodgers!!!!
Frank will just continue his quest for the Dodgers to just be competitive, which he can’t even do that right now, and use Ned as his idiot sidekick. And people wonder why Andre said what he said – Geez!!!!
I bet Andre and Matt are just counting the days until they can blow this town. I would be if I were them.
They’d be lucky to get out…us poor fans are stuck 🙂
Yep, I’d be outta there first chance I got!!!
I certainly don’t blame them.
Saarlac Pit.
.
DEFINITELY Saarlac Pit.
Kersh is getting squeezed by this ump
Not good…Kersh has thrown way too many pitches. If we don’t score a ton of runs (ha-ha) we are sunk!
Gameday count = 80
He’ll be lucky to make it rhough 5 innings. And, you know what our BP is like!
*through
Yep Trumom, our BullPen throws Batting Practice!!
Sounds good NSB…
Is this team capable of scoring a run? I mean a run – that’s a lot.
Of course we are Beav! As long as it’s because the other team had an error or two.
We can’t even give Kersh a breather between innings! Geez!!!
Down the hatch…
The first of many 🙂
I’m going to need mucho pitchers of margaritas 🙂
Well, once Kersh comes out, we are done unless we find some magical way of scoring some runs.
Am I hallucinating? Must be, because Theriot is beginning to look good to me. I guess that’s what happens when you have to live with the infield we’ve got.
Theriot. JP. The Ortizi. Haegar. Where are they now that we need them?
At least we still have Andre!
And, Matt! But, now what?
Nice play by Dre!
.
Getting a run on this team is like pulling teeth — so maybe we should refer to it as the “Dentist” offense.
To me, it’s more like a pain in the butt…So, how about the proctologist offense 🙂
Andre did good :). 13th consecutive hit and some fancy footwork and slide to avoid that tag.
Now, he needs his 100th home run 🙂
Was that a Yoga or Gymnastic’s move, he put on, to touch the plate? It was Sweet! Ethier way.
It was all that Yoga he does 🙂
What a great slide by Andre.. avoiding what should have been another promising inning messed up by Uribe and Loney
Good grief!!!
Allen Craig from Temecula just put the nail in Kersh’s coffin tonight 😦
Nellyjune ~ That Craig guy from the Cards who just hit the homer lives where Dodgereric does.
LOL….we just heard the same thing!
Yep, Vinnie mentions it every time he is up to bat – lol!!!
Tell Dodgereric to get rid of him! 🙂
Looks like I was a tad optimistic when I figured 1-3 against the Cards. Well, now’s a good a time as any…

We’re actually on a pace for 97 loses. Who’s got 65 wins?
SellTheTeam is at 71 and Dad/Eric is at 72. Your 75 is looking a little bit too optimistic at this point Beav!! LOL!!!
I think you’re right!! What was I thinking???
Well, this team won’t see .500 again until opening day 2012!!!
The only thing Dodgereric is yelling from Temecula is “SELL THE TEAM!!!”
All of us are! SELL THE TEAM!!!!!!
SELL THE TEAM!!!!!!
Poor Vinny has to endure this crap every night!
Sorry but that pickoff was just plain hilarious…
LOL!!!!
ABYSSMAL!!!©
Damn, Jhall…you keep copywriting all the good expletives…we won’t have anything left 🙂
LOL!!!!
Those letters all run together, when you’ve been drinking…
Seriously, at what point does Ned get canned? 100 loses? A new owner? Never? I mean to call this a major league team is a joke. Its even worse than last year’s with Anderson, Haegar and the Ortizi. I honestly doubt these guys could manage .500 in the California League.
It really is a joke that Ned still has his job!!!
Way to go Andre!!!! Andre is continuing to hit his way to a better team.
Can we follow him 🙂
Freaking Uribe can’t even get the sacrifice fly with Ethier at 3rd and 1 out. Geez!!!
Did you expect anything else? 🙂
He has seen 6 pitches in the last 3 PAs – yuck!
Juan Uribe = Andruw Jones, Part 2!
Donny needs to bench Uribe and Loney for about a week!!!
At least!
I’ll drink to that!
Any boo-birds yet? I sure as hell would be.
I wonder what the attendance is tonight?
RALLY TIME!!
Got to thinking…
.
Mattingly didn’t even manage in the minors, but in reality, isn’t he managing a minor league team now? I mean these guys would even be an embarrassment to Kansas City.
I’m sure Josh is going to pass this thread around to the “front office” 🙂
Well hopefully Frank reads this… SELL THE TEAM!!!!!
Not sure there’s anything left to sell. Tax man cometh!
.
I was watching the Mavs game and I was thinking, how would you guys feel about Mark Cuban buying the team?
Hell Yeah!!!
Sorry no way let’s him stay with the Mavs I’d rather have someone us.
I’m praying for Jerry Buss but it won’t happen.
Anyone else embarrassed yet? It’s one thing to loose but to loose the way this team losses is really hard to take. I hope that some of the guys that are trying continue to.
.
I’m really unhappy with Uribe. He hacks at the 1st pitch all the time and pops everything up. I was wanting Ned to sign him in addition to a couple of other players. Ned just got him and it was a mistake. I hope after this season he sees what Pablo did and shows that he’s a pro and losses his weight. Of course he “got his” so I’m sure he’s all good.
.
Remember back in the day USA was worried about “commies” taking over from the inside? I’m starting to think that’s what the Giants have done. Get Ned over here and add Conte and then start bringing over all their guys for large $$$ when they are past their prime and injured.
.
An owner from Boston, a GM & trainer from SF, a Manager from NY…
…..equals a horrible combination.
It’s a total farce!!!
On David Letterman tonight, his Top Ten is MLB Slogans that were rejected. I bet #1 (or at least top 5) has to do with the security issue at Dodger Stadium.
That would be Monday Night. Sorry, I was thinking it was Friday when I saw the commercial.
Cuban may be an @ss but he wants to win and will do what he can to win so I’d bee happy with that.
.
Looks like Tronco still isn’t fooling anybody.
Damn folks, it looks like its going to be a battle all the way – the Puds and the Snakes want it as much as we do.
& how can you have a pen without a lefthander?
In the good old days, Laird would get knocked down or hit for that SB up by 5 in the 8th.
I wonder how the two gomers on Dodger Talk will sugar coat this sh*t tonight!!!
It was the wind…
That’s what I was thinking E — but the umpire already issued a warning. I think if I was pitching I wouldn’t care, I’d still buzz the tower.
Damn straight!!!
And besides, its Troncoso – who cares??
Paid attendance…31,364. In the stands…364 🙂
SWEET!!!
Thanks Trumom!!!
Sweet — got that back molar out…
.
Uribe needs to be benched.
I wonder how Ned’s going to restructure and defer Uribe’s contract so we can get rid him like we did Andruw?
That fat bastard Uribe did it again. One pitch, weak pop up!!! When is Donny gonna bench this bum?
And of course, not to be outdone, Loney flies out!!! These two turds need to be benched or moved down in the batting order.
Thanks for the number, tru!
.
2010 attendance (7 games) – 324,989
2011 attendance (7 games) – 294,473
.
Down 30,000 after 7 games. That’s more like it. 🙂
Thought you’d like that 🙂
They say that today’s attendance is the lowest Saturday attendance since 9-7-02 against the Astros.
Ya gotta love it!!! Thanks Trumom, Dad, and Mom!!!
With attendance dropping, so will the amount of incidents at tha stadium. Frank of course will hail that as a great victory in his war against crime.
I’m not up on my astrophysics… is it possible to have two black holes occupying nearly the same space, each sucking matter at the same time?
On a positive note, it’s good to see Andre and Matt still fighting.
Pathetic! Another golden opportunity wasted. Uribe is as useless as testicles on the pope!!! Donnie should bench him, and shake up the lineup!
How much longer can this funk continue?
As useless as titts on a boar.
.
(I don’t know where that derives from, but I always liked it.)
.
Who’s next??…
Superb!
Fantastic Trumom!!! LMFTO!!!
LMAO Tru!!! You actually made me laugh out loud!! (The dog thinks I’m crazy now.)
Perhaps we ALL ought to don paperbags!!! Think Josh would get the hint??
By the end of April, everyone on the blog will probably be sporting paper bags!!!
I hope these hard times don’t turn us all into the brown paper bagger fans of the ‘Aints’ back in the day! LMAO!
It would be a riot, E 🙂
I’ll have to work on that tomorrow then.
Looking forward to it 🙂
.
Waiting for Dodger4life to say: “RALLY TIME”…LMAO
Rally Time!!
Guess everybody gets to play now.
This season would be depressing enough in the hands of great ownership and management…1992 comes to mind. But when you combine this team’s futility with a fan base that absolutely abhors both the owner and the GM, well, as Barney Fife used to say, “We have a situation here.”
The Dodger infield is 0-12 tonight.
Geez!!!
I’d like to put a bag over mccourt’s head.
The outfield is 6 for 12, with Matt and Andre going 5 for 8.
RALLY THAMES!!
Hey e, don’t mccourt and Ned sit next to each other?
.
.
.
.
.
Ohhhhh, BLACK holes……
LMAO!!!! THAT is funny!!!!
Five in a row! 😦
One more with the Cards and then the Braves come to town….we could be 10 in a row! (I do believe it’s a four game series with the Braves)
Yep Trumom, 4 with the Braves!!! I ain’t looking good!!!
Cool, Jhall!
Red Pen: It ain’t looking good!! Thanks Trumom!! You started it. Seems very appropriate!!
How about a million-man march on Chavez Ravine to overthrow the greedy despot?
OK, me and kahli so far. 999,998 to go.
I’m in!!!!
Me too!
Yep!!
At least the LA Kings won 4-0 loving beat that Sharks team from the Bay and that stupid beat LA chant.
Glad the Kings won!!!!
Can we just clone Kemp, Ethier, Carroll and Gwynn?
We helped the Cards score 66 runs in their last 7 games.
Ouch! That feels just like rubbing salt in the open wound.
Bench Uribe and Loney now and moved Ethier to 1st bases I remember he was taking some grounded last year ST and moved Thames in RF.
Why don’t we just move the whole team to the middle of the ocean?
It is time to take some serious action with Loney and Uribe. Move’em down in the order, bench’em, or a combination of both!!!
Donnie baseball learned from JoJo The Clown.
.
Any Questions?
On another note….Does anyone think the LA/OC area can support another NBA team? The Kings move is a done deal.
No, and the Sacramento fans are furious, not at the owners but the city for not allowing a new arena to be built.
The Clippers need to moved to SD.
Well, gotta hit the hay. Night all.
Good Night enchanted!!!!
Good night Beav!!!
I don’t even know why I hate the Red Wings so much but maybe I’m jealous of all those good players and there scout drafted in those middle to late round and a lot of Swedish players but this is stupid and the Red Wings tradition for 60 years.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/NHL-vs-octopus-Detroit-police-fine-Red-Wings-f;_ylt=AkEbXILgRtxNpQEumfXd0Rp7vLYF?urn=nhl-wp2695
To bad basketball/hockey arena don’t carry over 25,000+ than I could’ve predict that the Staples Center crowd for the Lakers 3 peats run today at 12:30 would get more fans than the game at Dodgers Stadium at 1:10 lol.
Cmon fans, support this mess, Er, I mean team, keep coming out to the park, boss needs new houses and remember he also needs your support to pay his lawyers.
LMAO along with an overstated crowd of 31,000 – what else to do. Just consider that none of us has to go out and borrow $30 million just to make payroll. Sooner or later there’s no way to pay it back.
HAHA HAHA HAHA HAHA HAHA HAHA
Is that what is called “living on borrowed time”?
Remember my prediction of 70 wins, maybe? Then again as GM I have to be optimistic, or Malibu will fire me.
Good Morning All
.
We’re all winners today!
.
GO DODGERS GO!!
.
Have a great Sunday and enjoy the game…
For anyone interested in how its going down at AAA, here’s their 10 game stats : http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ibp&cid=342&stn=true&sid=t342
.
.
There’s some guy name Juan Castro that’s hitting .545 with an OPS of 1.524!! I’m surprised he’s not playing short for us right now!!
.
Seriously though, I think Dee Gordon is vastly overrated, at least as a shortstop – guy already has 5 errors. Robinson’s not doing very well either. Mitchell’s tanking (surprise!) Then there’s that Jay Gibbons kid… don’t think the new contacts are helping much. Only guy worth a dime is Sands.
.
If you notice too, much like we have about a bazillion LFers, Alb has 6 shortstops listed and no 2Bman.
.
Long and short of it, don’t expect any help coming from AAA for 2B, 3B, SS, C AND pitching. Which coincidentally [not] are the positions the “big” club is hurting for.
.
A job well done Ned my friend. A job well done indeed.
Good or bad, they are way too young for Ned’s liking.
Nice Beav!!!
I hear the Lasik surgery people had their eye on Gibbons as their advertising poster guy – I guess that’s not working out too well either. I also note how well all the recent years’ #1 pitching draft choices are doing – I guess they’re finding out that this isn’t high school any longer. Kind of makes you wonder about Logan White – maybe he’s in the right organization and job after all.
Also makes you wonder Bear just what kind of physicians this club employs. If I were injured on this team I’d seek my own medical treatment rather than let any of the club’s medical staff touch me.
Everyday in Dodger Blue is a Good Day
Heh, heh, heh!!!
Is it me or are there a bunch of people there dressed as empty seats?
A view from last nights game. Keep it up Dodger fans. Stay home and continue the siege on McCourts wallet!!! It is the best and most effective way to show your displeasure with Frank, Ned, and this turd of a team they are putting out there for you!!!!!
We know Frank just got a $30 mil “loan” from Fox just to make payroll for another month or so. We know that he’s borrowed heavily against future ticket sales. We also know that he’s over $400 mil in debt.
.
At some point he’s going to have to pay the piper.
I’d like to know what he is using as collateral. Jamie should have everything tied up and frozen in he divorce.
He must be getting by on his and Ned’s good looks!!! LOL!!!!

From: Whatever it takes to win a championship!
.
To: Whatever it takes to get a loan!

What A Waste
.
Anyhow’s, we have a game to WIN today!
http://www.truebluela.com/2011/4/16/2115874/dodgers-cardinals-bloodbath-clayton-kershaw
Was just thinking – we’ll know when all is lost when D4 shows up with a brown paper bag. 🙂
He just turns to drinking 🙂
The only papebags, I have came with the Soulshine E
As for the $30 million Fox loan, evidently this is the SECOND time since the end of last season. Newspaper has no idea what McCourt used as collateral. This is NOT tied to television rights; it is, rather, a “personal” loan, not a Dodgers loan…hence, no need for Selig’s OK. God and heaven have mercy on our beloved franchise. Shouldn’t this be enough to run the guy out of baseball?
This could actually give Selig more ammo to force him out!!! Needs to be thoroughly investigated!!!!
Yes agreed Selig needs to investigate this ‘personal loan’
Unfortunately I think Selig is incompetent so I’m not expecting much from him.. the Dodger fanbase is really screwed
Agreed Swood!! Having our fate in Seligs hands does not inspire my confidence!!!
EMPTY SEATS!
Come on, Dodger fans, keep those EMPTY SEATS coming.
Resist that temptation to watch Uribe pop up; to see that smooth Loney swing end up in the usual groundout.
Resist seeing Pujols get healthy at bat; resist watching Theriot getting thrown out on the bases – at least he’s getting on the bases in the first place.
Resist giving Frank any of your hard-earned dollars; make him get another Fox loan before the season is half over.
EMPTY SEATS, EMPTY SEATS – that’s what this season is all about.
Yep Bear, unfortunately, the best way for the fans to show their displeasure and send a loud and clear message to Selig and MLB, is to just not show up!!!! It may be painful now, but, in the long run we will be better for it!!!!
Okay – I won’t……..sigh…… I really hate Frank McCourt, and I normally don’t use the word hate, but he gives me no choice when I have to side with my fellow ITDers instead of supporting the players at Dodger Stadium. I will spend my money at AT&T Park and Target Field this year, and be the proud Ethieraholic that I am when he is on the road.
Gee Mom, I wouldn’t hold it against you if you go to Ethier bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium!! I know you don’t hate Frank personally, you just find him to be a loathsome and contemptable human being as I do!!! I hate what he is doing to our Dodgers but, I don’t wish any physical harm on the scumbag!! Just justice from MLB and the IRS!!!!
I can’t believe Donny still has Uribe and Loney batting 5th and 6th.
http://www.truebluela.com/2011/4/17/2116472/dodgers-cardinals-chad-billingsley-chris-carpenter
I wonder if Josh Hamilton is taking a good look at that slide by Ethier last night. LOL!!!!
Hey Nelly, Grady Sizemore is back today!!! He hit a home run!!! The Indians and Reds are alot of fun to watch!!!!
I know!!! I was watching it (and the race – lol). I was telling my girlfriend he was back and what he did today!!! Yeah for Grady!!!!
I thought you might be on it!!!
Boy, would we have an outfield with Sizemore between Matt and Andre. And he could lead off!!! Fantasy, I know!!! With Furcal most likely and hopefully gone next year, it would solve two of our most glaring problems(lead off hitter and left field)!!!
Juan Pierre’s a free agent after this season…
Not funny!!! LOL!!!
Enchanted – have you seen how many fly balls JP has missed lately?…..and don’t forget his rainbow throw. LOL!!!
.
Andre and Matt will be playing with Grady before Grady plays with Andre and Matt, but I could deal with that!!!
Tou-Che Nelly!!! Nice one!!!
I would be thrilled!! LOL!!
But JP’s such a hard worker…
Geez Beav, mom’s got the spatula, you better run!!!
Yikes!!
I’m all for moving Loney and Uribe down in the lineup the problem is who are we going to move up to their spots? Barajas and his awful situational hitting? Miles/Dejesus?
I hear you Swood!! Ned has painted us into the corner of a collapsing building!!!
I’m all for moving Loney and Uribe out of town. 🙂
Yep Beav, I would too!! However, I don’t think anyone is interested in either one of them.
Dodger Stadium looks empty…….very empty! We will see what it is like after the 3rd inning.
Pretty soon, Vinny will have to say a foul ball is hit into the people instead of back in the crowd 🙂
C’mon Billz!! We need ya to come up big today son!!!
I’ve noticed that Uribe comes up BIG everyday. 😐
Barajas has me looking forward to seeing Navarro.
Ouch!! That is sad but true. This team would have been better off right now if Jamie was the owner and Ng was the GM from the outset of the McCourt era!!
I have to admit I was wrong when I said anything was better than Martin.
Yep, me too my brother!!!
That Albert!!! Geez!!! Andre smoked that ball!!!
Well, Billzs’ second time thru the order. This is where it gets interesting!!!
It sure does… Like Jekyll & Hyde 🙂
Hi’Ya Trumom!!! The day would not be complete without you here!!!
I’ve been here….you guys were very busy and didn’t notice 🙂
My apologies!!! We get carried away as you know, and the bags are starting to look the same!! LOL!!!
Very true….pretty soon, we will all be bag-people 🙂
And hopefully, Frank also!!!
Uribe’s Andruw Jones without the charm.
baLoney!
I like it 🙂
:))) Your on a roll Trumom!!!
How is it that Ned’s always the first in line to buy other people’s schmidt?
Baaah Neddy!!!
The way Ned puts things together, can you imagine what his high school shop projects looked like?
Mattingly said that this team isn’t as bad as it looks.
.
.
.
I beg to differ.
It’s much worse!
I think he is going to the same eye doctors as Gibbons!!!!
Funny you should mention that Beav!! That’s what Blow and Hummer said last night on Dodger Talk!!! What a pair of tools!!!
Those two gomers have the personality and insight of an empty “Sunny D”(pun intended) container!!!
Just for something entertaining to do, you know, while the games on, I looked up next year’s free agents.
.
Its far too vast a list to cut and paste:
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/03/2012-mlb-free-agents.html
.
But suffice to say, there’s plenty of “vintage” ballplayers for Ned to sign for next years pennant contending team.
Nope Beav, there’s nothing there worth a crap!!! All the more reason to sell at the July deadline and score some good young prospects. This team is beyond one or two(we need 3 or 4) ill advised free agent signings to get back to prominence!!!
God help us if Ned is buying in July!!! It could set the organization back 5 years or more!!!
That’s in addition to the 10 it already has been.
Poor Billz. He’s finally throwing a decent game and these stiffs can’t even scratch out a run for him.
LET’S GO BOY’S!!
Billz has earned his keep for the day 🙂
Yep!!! :)))
I think Fielder would help if we could sign him atleast we would finally have a little power in the lineup
Criminies swood, with Fielder and Uribe on the same side of the infield the earth would be thrown off its axis!
Yep, he would Swood!! But you would end up paying way too much in the long run!!!! Fortunately in this case(Fielder and Pujols), Frank ain’t got the money to sign either of them!!!
Enchanted ~ You’re right….Yawn Uribe, for sure!!!!!
Well, at least Uribe and Loney are consistant!! Glass half full gang!!! Vomit!!! If Donny is not concerned, why should we be?
Nice play Andre!!!
Yes, it was 🙂
Following the game on gameday, but how are we doing on EMPTY SEATS? A half empty ballpark could be setting FrankHole back a couple of hundred grand. Give us a report, somebody.
At least half empty IMO 🙂
I am sure I will be scolded, but the top deck is empty from homeplate out.
Let’s put it this way Messagebear. The people (it’s really not a crowd) just tried to do the wave, and it was abysmal 🙂
Help us Obi-Shad!! You’re our only hope!! LOL!!!
It’s more than half empty, Bear…you can almost count the people there 🙂
And these are weekend games. Wait’ll the Braves series. 🙂
A ton of Dodger Dogs will be thrown out 🙂
:(((
There’s only two Dodger DOGS I want to see thrown out. Well three if you count Uribe. 🙂
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Damn that was a bs game that 4th quarter and the way the Hornets was getting all those and 1 and I knew it was going to get ugly and making scrub getting career game vs us.
Obi-Shad!!! We need the attendence for todays game!!! Help us Shad!!!
SWEET!!! Thank you Billz and Andre!!!! Let’s get some runs!!!
That’s the way to pick-up Andre Chad!!
Well, if you’re going to throw out those Two Dodger DOGS, make sure you get them spayed first.
Oh Crap!!
What Beav, you sound like Ned when Frank forgets the lubricant!!!!
I was referring to Brox coming in to pitch.
Well Jhall you know I can’t do nothing until the game is done.
I hear you my friend!!! Keep us updated!!!
What the heck we finally get some good pitching by Bills than we have no offense.
Are you surprised?
Nah but at least 1-0 score.
Well look like I got my 1-0 score but it the other team that score.
Usually Vinny gives the attendance but, I missed it switching back and forth between this game and the Lakers game. I don’t care what they say was paid attendance…people in th park are barely 10,000 I’d say.
Maybe Vin is embarrassed to say……
Very well could be, Nellyjune 🙂
Well we know 18,997 people was at the Staples Center which it normally a sellout.
Oh heavy sigh!!!
http://www.thelfp.com/blog/2011/03/broxton-already-in-midseason-form/
Another Brown Out By Brox!!! Way to go Andre!!! Maybe you and Kemp can wipe up his mess?!!!!
Geez I knew that 2 outs double was going to cost the shutout.
Way to go Andre!!! Come on Matt!!!! Get a HR and end it!!!
Woo-Hoo!!!
If Kemp doesn’t get the run in, we’re screwed!!!
Guess he got the run home!
.
Too bad Brox gets the win and not Billz.
Wow I must had miss a good race probably better than these 2 games. Jimmie Johnson won 0.002 seconds.
It was a great race!!! I would guess Dodgereric is very happy about the outcome!!!
Matthew did it!!!!
FINALLY….A WIN!!!!! THANK-YOU ANDRE & MATT!!!!
Attendance – 27,439
Wow Trumom!! Thanks!! Dad is going to love it!!!
Can’t wait fo him to see it 🙂
Which would be a pathetic 49%.
KEMP is just a beast
Well, Brox certainly doesn’t deserve the win, but, I guess thats baseball!!! Nice job Billz, Andre, and Matt!!!
Billz deserves major kudos for that game!!! Matt and Andre did their part in the end, but Billz allowed them to get to that point. Way to go Billz!!!
Holy shit Kemp did it.
And thank you LaRussa for not IBBing him. You gave us the win
LOL Swood!! I was thinking the same thing. In that situation, I would not have pitched to Kemp with Uribe and Loney coming up!!! What a dumbass!!!
“So Matt, what do you think of this season’s slow start?”
“Well, I think Colletti has regressed. He’s not the GM he was last season. His FAs seem unproductive, his trades questionable, his overall desire and focus seems to be lacking.”
Excellent Kahli!!
Brox basically shits his pants and comes out smelling like a rose!!! Bullshit!!! He should be buying Andre and Kemper steak dinners tonight!!!
Don’t let it get lost. The fact is, Uribe, Loney, Barajas, and Miles go 2 for 12, no runs, no rbi’s…., 5 strikouts, and 5 LOB…. We got lucky that Billz was on today and Kemper and Andre continue to come up big!!!
Brox should order the salad plate…
New thread children 🙂
🙂
Franklin is there Broxton.
