The King of Pop

In the past year, the 80s have made a surprising surge back to relevance in Hollywood. Movie remakes of 80s movies (Clash of the Titans), 80s toys turned into movies (Transformers), 80s TV shows turned into movies (A-Team), even movies about returning to the 80s (Hot Tub Time Machine).

We’ve decided to ride the wave back to the days of Space Invaders, the Delorean and of course, the King of Pop as we celebrate 80s Night in less than two weeks at Dodger Stadium (August 6th for those keeping track).

In honor of the decade that brought us Bon Jovi and  Big Hair, the entertainment for the evening will have an acid-washed tint to it. In addition, the first 20,000 fans will take home a limited-edition poster featuring Matt Kemp. We penciled in Kemp as the 80s poster-boy back in January, however, we didn’t determine the exact direction for its design until about a month ago.

As some of you may have seen on twitter and even Deadspin the resulting shoot will remind many of the days of “Thriller”, “Beat it” and the moonwalk.

Kemp was happy to lend his likeness to the poster, but I don’t think he knew exactly what he was getting in to when we agreed to take part in the photo shoot on Friday. We had a full wardrobe ready, with an authentic (read: costume shop replica) red leather jacket, aviators, fedora, white v-neck and of course, a silver glove! Matt already has a gold one to go with it, but once he slid the glove on, donned the fedora, and looked into the camera, MK channeled MJ pretty quickly. Using my iPhone as the soundtrack (hopefully DMN can enhance the audio on the Inside Dodgertown piece coming soon) Kemp gave us a few “he-heee’s” as he struck poses under the direction of Jon SooHoo.

The shot to be used is still to be determined, but Matt gave us plenty to work with and we’ll release the design on dodgers.com later this week. For now, start digging out the legwarmers and parachute pants (in Dodger blue of course) and plan on joining us August 6th as the Nationals come to town on 80s Night with their prodigal pitcher, Stephen Strasburg (born in 1988!), scheduled to pitch (perhaps against Kershaw, given that he’s also scheduled to pitch on Sunday due to his suspension). Here’s hoping Kemp proves to be the king of pop at the plate when the two face each other.

I’ve seen photos of Matt as Michael Jackson and they are awesome! Hopefully, everybody’s bat will have some POP on Tuesday.

No, POBear will come on with something in reference to another promotion to bring money in for Frank’s divorce.

I seem to be on regular time, not ITDFST so submission error hell will soon follow I would imagine. !@#$%^&*()!!!!!!

LMAO!!!!!!!

BPB1 – have any song ideas?

That’s really awesome about Matt, because Ned happens to be the King of Poop.

LMAO! I didn’t know who would be first with that one….either you, BPB1 or POBear!

You can get Ned’s Greatest Shidts Album from NedCo Broken Records® featuring such near misses as:
.
Neddy C (‘s not our GM, he?s just a guy that said that he is the one, but the Ned just comes undone.)
.
Gut To Be There (A tribute to Andruw Jones)
.
Wanna Be Swattin? Somethin?
.
Bad (a introspective)
.
P.V.L.
.
Robbin? Dobbin (A tribute Jason Schmidt)
.
Stiller (a scary song about third baseman that can?t move anymore)
.
The Girl Is Mine (A tribute to Juan Pierre)
.
He?s Out With My Wife (A tribute to Jamie?s chauffer)
.
Don?t Stop ?Til You Get A Trough (a song about Dennis Mannion?s Port-A-Potties)

Cheat It (an upbeat song about Frank not paying taxes)

And many more for just $480 for a family of 4. What?s that? Don?t have a job? We don?t care. Don?t have any credit? We don?t care. Don?t expect to pay us? THAT?S when we care. So call direct. Call collect. But call TODAY. Be sure to have your credit card ready. Operators are standing by.

LMAO!!!!!!!!

BP1! LOL!
Time to bring back the 80′s MJ songs from the repertoire at Dodgerlyrics.
.
Not sure if I am going to dress up that day. I still do have my satin Dodger blue jacket from back in the 80′s. Yes, is that old. It fits a little snug but fits. Too bad I don’t have my three quarter Valenzuela baseball shirt that I used to wear to the stadium back in the days. Any suggestions what I should pair my satin jacket with?
Emma
http://crzblue.mlblogs.com

Frank’s underwear? That’s probably satin too.

For those of you new to ITD, we join our program already in progress…

:):)

Urgh all my wasteful posts must got wasted in that other thread geez.

Remember, there are no wasted posts.

Just wasted time reading them.

Yep most of them was about Garza 1st no hitter in TB history and the Mets and Padres are the only teams that haven’t thrown one. Doug Harvey was the 1st and last ump to thrown Torre out of a game but the last one was on purpose.

I wrote this on the other thread. Yeah trade Martin bring up Santana, trade Blake bring up Mitchell, and I doubt he can do much worst than Blake, trade Manny to TB because they might bite and needs a DH and called up Hoffman, dump Belliard and GA but I know someone would bite on Belliard if we trade him when his value is low and calling up Gibbons and a utility infielder. Oh wait we can’t do the 1st one because we have no Santana damn Ned or should we blame McCourt for that one. I think McCourt was stubborn for that one.

Furcal
Paul
Santana
Ethier
Kemp
Loney
Mitchell
Dewitt

I’m having a good feel this lineup would’ve had 70 wins by now but not with the SP’s we had ealier in the season.

I didn’t even mention about the bullpen crap lol.

It nice to dream about GM for a day.

LMAO!!!! BPB1 – you are being quite ornery tonight once again.

Haren was an Angels fan? I hope Haren is ok.

;)

I saw that about Dan Haren. That’s too bad. I like him now that he is pitching in the AL.

;) right back at you BPB1 :)

I posted something else on that thread but I’m going to shorten it. The Tigers lost both no hitters by a guy who last name is Joyce.

About Manny……………

Fans at Dodger Stadium, on the other hand, seem to have gotten used to his absence. Mannywood, the field-level section in the left-field corner that was once the heartbeat of the ballpark, is a deserted, forlorn section these days. There is no more Ramirez buzz, as there was when he came to the Dodgers this time of year two seasons ago and led the team to its first appearance in the NLCS since 1988.

Alot of other little tidbits in this article……………

http://www.google.com/url?sa=X&q=http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/nl/dodgers/2010-07-26-dodgers-torre-ramirez-mccourt-playoffs_N.htm&ct=ga&cad=:s1:f1:v0:i0:lt:e0:p0:t1280207285:&cd=dXO0DEPpM6M&usg=AFQjCNE5FkW49Bt_aihxfDD9cJCIbSC_Vg

Thanks for the article, Nellyjune.

JOSH thanks for the info….I’ve seen the poster and I like it! I just hope the tribute to the 80′s continue til the end of the season….ended like 1988!
*
BROWNPAPERBAG….that is one great album! Couldn’t stop laughing!

LET’S GO DODGERS!

Good afternoon Dodger Faithful…….and our beloved Boy’s in Blue!!!
.
Knoff, thanks for the kind words on the last thread…. Standing next to the bat rack these days would require hazardous pay…..not that there’s anything wrong with that!
.
I was just saying that giving up at this point, is not an option, I am prepared to make. That the struggles up to this point, can be erased and that it takes a good attitude along with fundementally sound play.
.
Why is it more difficult to win in a hostile enviroment, than a positive one?? Why can teams and players, such as the 84 Olympic Hockey team overcome severe odds. I don’t know the answer, but whatever it is, I see no reason why our Boy’s can’t dig deep and do the same. Timing seems to be a big factor in the chase as well, and there is no time like the present.
.
I completely understand the concerns that have been registered from the fans, not just on ITD but in general.
.
Although Frank McCourt is the only person that can truly dictate the circumstances surrounding personell. It isn’t entirely impossible for this team to overcome his inadeqaucies. I prefer to look at it as an uphill battle instead of a losing one. Thats all! The law of averages or baseball say’s, I will be wrong more than not. You can’t win em all, but without a positive outlook, your climb is just that much more difficult.
.
Enchanted…..( there, I go being positive again, as you are sure to return, I have faith. )
.
Outstanding work as alway’s…..
.
Enjoy the rest of your day everyone, and enjoy the game tonight as well.
.
GO DODGERS GO!!!!

Perhaps the ITD think tank can enlighten me:
Who is going to pitch Saturday’s game in SF?
With kershaw suspended (going Sunday) and 5th starter (probably monsterios) going Friday, and Bilz, Kuroda and Padilla not rested after the padres series.
Thanks in advance

My apologies…. it was Koufax, I owe the gratitude too….

Speculation is Ely…from what I have read???

Just think, as we sit here…at this very moment…Ned is working the phones tirelessly, trying to complete a trade that will no doubt resonate with ITD for days, if not months. Kind of chilling, if you ask me…….

Relax people. Ned’s already completed one deal in his never ending quest for mediocrity:
.
“Juan Castro signs a minor-league contract with the Dodgers”

Stay tuned for more.

Sweet! That’s awesome news BPB1!! We are pretty much assured of a World Series appearence then!
.
I’m guessing Ned has stock in some waste management company.

I didn’t think Castro could pitch! Ha!
If ELY is pitching Saturday, and I hold my tongue and breath, then I assume Oswalt, Harang or whoever won’t be coming forward for Saturday’s game.
I just like to see kenley jansen start that one up.

Nancy Bea starts in 1988, that last WS win, at that moment in time I did not think it would 20 plus years without another WS win, let alone just an appearence in the WS. The 80s seem good in retrospect, although with the campanis incident mentioned, it was the beginning of a reshaping of our Dodgers, away went our infield foundation, and free agents began to be a the fix it (lets get Eddie Murray) and slowly the foul territory grew smaller and the luxury seats became more expensive. Lasorda didn’t yell as much. NO doubt why O’Malley sold them off.
Enough of that nostalgia. Lets go Dodgers. Keep the win streak going, about 13 more would be nice, if not needed.

NSB, thanks for the post about Nancy Bea. It is interesting how precious she is to Dodger fans, many of which I would guess would like to hear more from her and less from the rock music played between innings.

Ah, memories from the 1980′s, that era so long ago when the Dodgers last appeared (and won) the World Series. That era where we knew every year who was going to manage the team and where the owner was seldom seen but whose presence was definitely felt by the way he ran the organization and the way he conducted his own personal affairs. Yes, there were some tough moments as well. Who can forget pitching to Jack Clark or the sordid Al Campanis affair on Nightline? Pedro Guerrero’s base running skills. And eyeblack on Gibbie’s hat.

And speaking of Gibbie, I wonder how he would have responded to being asked to dress up for a promo poster as the team was struggling to keep up with the division leader? Not that I am criticizing Kemp for doing so; I think it is great he and the others are such good sports.

Hey North. Totally forgot to give you props for the parody of Plaschke the other day. Brilliant!! Laughed my A off!!

If you’re really striking out for some big fan attractions, you could give the first 20,000 fans a voodoo doll looking like Frank McCourt along with a long and sharp hat pin. I might rush right out myself for that event. We might even see Jamie there. If that attraction is a winner, we could follow up with Ned dolls, then Mannion, then Joe, and maybe even a Donny Boy for a middle of the week off-night.

Stick those pins right up the asss.

By pissedoffbear@yahoo.com on July
…………………………………………
Told ya he would come up with a brilliant plan!!! LOL!!!!

Does the Donny Boy doll come with two pins?

No Birk, the Donny Boy doll comes with pinstripes.

:):)

Awesome, BPB1!!!!! Looks like this is going to be one hell of a night :)
.
One person, on the signing of Castro, asked, “Fidel?” lol

NOW I’M IN THE INFAMOUS ITD TIME WARP!!!!!!! GET THIS BLOG FIXED, PLEASE!!!!!!

Remember, there are no wasted posts.

Just wasted time reading them.

Where is that? I must have missed it, I’d like to read it. Emma
http://crzblue.mlblogs.com

Pinstripes – That was good BPB1- LMAO!!!!

Glad to hand out the straight lines, BPB1.

Its at the end of the Welcome back Brad Ausmus thread Emma.

Thank you Birk. I take ‘em where I can get ‘em. :)

You make a great straight man lbirken!!

Hi Everybody.
There won’t be much straining the neck to see the scoreboard tonight as we have the Padres right in front of us.
Unless you want to see what the Giants are doing.
These first 3 games can decide the team’s fate. The Pards would like nothing more than a win but the Dodgers need a sweep.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!

Too bad Frank didn’t with Jamie or we might not be in this mess.

And now for your musical entertainment. Peter, Paul & Mary ? Puff the Magic Dragon.

NED THE TRAGIC G M
.
Ned the tragic G M, no magician be
Tried to make a winning club with parts from obscurity
Owner Frankie McCourt liked his leveraged stuff
He bought him toys and paid no tax while sitting on his duff
Oh
Ned the tragic G M, works in L.A.
But could not get us pitching ?cuz ?ol Frankie wouldn?t pay
Ned the tragic G M, works in L.A.
I wish that he would go him back to the city by the bay
.
Together they unraveled a franchise doomed to fail
Neddy held a hope out, while Frankie he just bailed
Worthy arms and hitters would laugh when?er they came
Agents balked while Ned just talked, his ?posals were all lame
Oh
Ned the tragic G M, no magician be
Tried to make a winning club with parts from obscurity
Ned the tragic G M, worked in L.A.
He cannot get us anyone, ‘cuz Frank he just won?t pay
.
Now Ned won?t last forever, we wish the same for Frank
All our hopes are riding on his former wifey skank
One blue day ?twill happen, Neddy?s gone for sure
And Frank?s unworthy ownership will hurt our team no more
.
But for now we get Juan Castro, and Manny?s calf that?s lame
And so for those that give a damn, there?s only mem?ry lane
Neddy he keeps calling, then sits ?lone very staid
Thanks to Frank we owe it all ?cuz Jamie coulnt get laid
Oh
Ned the tragic G M, works in L.A.
But could not get us pitching ?cuz ?ol Frankie wouldn?t pay
Ned the tragic G M, works in L.A.

That was great BPB1, really right on the money.
Dodger ownership has always been a changing thing, and in so many different ways.

LMAO!!

Maybe if Frank, Jamie and Ned took a Puff things would be a bit different today………….

Dang Ethier has the flu.

Get well soon Andre!!! We need you back ASAP!!!

GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

That suck for Coghlan I can’t believe something like that happen.

Hello gang!!! Outstanding Beav!!! LMAO!!! This is a huge series. We need at least 2 of 3!!!!

Street taken off field in ambulance; Tulo returns

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AkAdFrSSdF_dGXpV.PjHhAs5nYcB?slug=ap-streetinjured

Ouch that suck getting hitting in the pelvic areaby a line drive in batting practice. What’s up with all these injuries?

I forgot to hit my spacebar.

Shirley there’s got to be a better option in the minors than GA. This line-up from Blake on down is a black hole.

enchanted – I saw your song earlier and forgot to tell you how fabulous it is!!!!

Hey JHall!!! :))

shad – these injuries are just crazy!!!

Shirley would be better than GA :)

Hi’Ya Nelly!!! Beav, I want to add another verse to your song.

The skank’s libido is forever,
But not so Frank McCourt,
Wedded bliss and family life,
Make way for Limo toys,
One sad day it happened,
Jamie’s papers she did file,
And Frank, that mighty parker,
He raised the price we pay.

lol they shown Kershaw and Mark Sweeney in the pressbox

Woo-hoo, Jhall! BPB1 will love it!

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/dodgers/2010/07/dodgers-scratch-andre-ethier-against-padres-due-to-illness.html

I think the write mean Tuesday game not Monday. How much do these guy make to make a dumb mistake?

That is awesome Jhall!!!!

To say the very least …Runs are scarce.

OBF ~ makes you want to yell…….”SNAP OUT OF IT”!

Oh no! – Time Warped!!!

*writer

Welcome to the 1965-66 Dodger’s offense.

BTW, now that I’m not time-warped, good one Wally!! LMAO!!

Can we just fast forward through this season? Watching the powder-puff Pods square off against Frank’s forgotten franchise is just too damn unwatchable and unstomachable.

I hate infield single.

Wow, Billz sacked up.

Well..That should at least make them feel lousy.

Great Billingsley to get out of that bases loaded jam!!! Now wake up guys and score some runs!!!

Great job Billz!!!! Now the offense needs to reward him by getting him some runs.

GO DODGERS!!!!

Great job Billingsley to get out of that bases loaded jam!!! Now wake up guys and score some runs!!!

Wow, nice job Billz!!!! Let’s get some freaking runs!!! Thanks Trumom, Nelly, and Beav!!! You’re inspiring my brother!!!

The offense can’t get any more pathetic than this can it?

O.K. Guys all it takes is one..these days.

Yeah Cody Ross 2 runs HR’s.

SUBMISSION ERROR!!!!!!!! SUBMISSION ERROR!!!!!!! SUBMISSION ERROR!!!!!!!! SUBMISSION ERROR!!!!!! SUBMISSION ERROR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUBMISSION ERROR!!!!!!!

Well, I guess the pep talk didn’t work!! Maybe they all have a touch of the flu.

Most welcome Jhall!!! Your father will be mighty pleased with the both of you.

Well, isn’t that just the sh*ts, (pun intended), that Either isn’t in the lineup tonight. I guess JoJo didn’t think he could manufacture The Runs!!!!

Shad – I saw Ross homerun and he showed up Matt by flipping his bat so the gnat fans, announcers and Mr. Cain are not too happy about that at all!!!! Kind of funny seeing how they get their feelings hurt so easily.

It’s hard enough to stay awake watching these night games on the east coast, and the way Dodger offense is going I feel myself falling aslezzzzzzzzzzzzzz……….

Jhall, the master comedian tonight :)

The offense can’t get any more pathetic than this can it?
By brownpaperbag1 on July 27, 2010 9:33 PM

Not more pathetic, but equally pathetic……..

They should give points for “so called” Runners in scoring position.

Take my skank wife, please!!!! But seriously folks!!! LOL!!!! We’ll be here all summer!!! Try the veal and don’t forget to tip those waitresses!!!!

RALLY TIME!!!
.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!

Andre Ethier was a late scratch from the Dodgers? lineup before Monday?s opener in San Diego because of illness.

There was no other word about what had Ethier ailing, though he was seen before the game talking to Times columnist T.J. Simers.

Read into that what you will.
……………………………………………
Read into it what? …… TJ made him sick? Vin had said Andre had to leave the field so something must have went wrong at some point.

Where has all our offense gone,
Long time passing,
Where has Martins, bat gone,
A long, long time ago,
Where has all the offense gone,
Gone to the DL and Anderson,
When will Ned ever learn,
When will Neeeeed, be gone?!!!

Well, ain’t that something. Here comes Andre!!!

Dodger4life called that one :)

Now THAT is our Andre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go Andre!!!!!!

EVEN WITH THE FLU!!!!

Andre said, “WHO’S YOUR DADDY?”

Been on the phone – how the hell’d we get two runs?

Andre might as well stay.

Submission error hell :((

enchanted – it was Andre finally being Andre once again. If he hadn’t, I don’t know what I would have done to protect him from this group – lol!!!!

lol GA extending the rally for Ethier 2 runs amazing.

Oldbrooklynfan – Yep, he might as well. We may need him again later. This game is far from over.

Please tell me that we don’t have to suffer though another season of Blake next year. His skills are so far dimished now, what will they be when he’s another year older?

Way to go Kuo!!!!!

Kuo is just dealing!! Way to go!!! We need more runs as we all well know by now :)

I hate submission errors. I was trying to post that when Ethier got that hit.

I want Broxton 8th and Jansen 9th. I wish Torre would do it.

Another great inning by Kuo!!!

It such a risk with Kuo pitching 2 innings.

I think a sick Andre is better than a healthy GA.

MATT STAIRS awaits.
I hope Big Jon don’t blow his job.

Are starting pitchers 1 ER’s in 43th innings.

Wow that just gave us that 2 outs.

Way to go Andre!!! Here’s Johnny!!!!

Oh Oh Broxton nemesis is up.

What does Johnny say?

Fu Q y’all Puds!!!!!!!

Fu-Q Puds!!!!

We were thinking the same thing Jhall at exactly the same time too :))

:))) Nelly!!!!

Of course nobody was worried about a walk to Stairs and bringing the tying run to the plate. NO WAY.
not again.

Oldbrooklyfan – just a tad worried :)

Jhall :))

After 100 games
’06 47-53
’07 56-44 1st
’08 49-51 2nd
’09 62-38 1st
’10 54-46 3rd

Billz seems to be getting some much needed confidence. It is really good to see him getting out of tough situations without a total meltdown.

Kuo and Brox did equally as well tonight.

And last but certainly not least, it was good to see Andre finally get that RBI clutch hit that he is so known for. I was getting a tad worried about that guy. All the batters that preceeded him in getting on base did their job as well.

Good night gang!! Have a great tomorrow everyone!!!

Good Night Jhall!!! You have a fantastic tomorrow yourself.

GOOD WORK BOY’S!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Night All…..
.
Jhall must have been really tired tonight so………….
.
EXCELSIOR TRUE BELIEVERS!!!!

Good Night Dodger4life!!! Tomorrow I will be reporting from Peoria, AZ, home of the Mariners/Padres Spring Training Camp. I plan on wearing my Dodger blue proudly, along with VSA Eagles red, white and blue of course.

I miss last year record through 100 games.

Did anyone else notice the photo of Torre and Martin hugging before the game tonight? It was sort of weird looking to me. Almost like they were 2 friends or brothers saying goodbye. I’m not sure if it’s reading anything into the photo as I’m sure that if Martin was being traded he wouldn’t of been playing in the game or have that reaction in the dugout but maybe he knows something is amiss. Check out the photo on the webpage. What do you all think?

When I saw the lineup last night I thought it was not one to strike fear into anybodies heart, but it was obviously good enough. Just goes to show you can’t give up even with this side show going on. Got to credit the pitchers with this one.
*
Can’t help but wonder what we’ll have to give up to get some pitching.

I think to most of us here on ITD Bear he’ll just be known as, “Oh Schidt.”

I agree, PObear….welcome back Ungar.

Are there any good rumors..what are the main topics around here lately I have been gone awhile..let me guess.

1. Torre is an idiot
2. We need to trade for people
3. But Ned is an idiot
4. So god Knows what we would trade to get god knows what?
5. Manny sucks.
6. We need Manny to win our offense sucks without him
7. Honeycutt sucks other than the last 4 games

anything else?

8. maybe that Broxton sucks? (but he dosen’t but sometimes he does)

and it goes without saying, sell the team Frank..(yet were..back to back NL West Champs)

I don’t see what’s the problem is to not bring up Mitchell and what the worst can he do? I think Mitchell could produce more than what’s Belliard/Anderson combined have done this year. I bet if Gibbons or Hoofmann were left handed batter GA would’ve had been signed in the 1st place.

Hi folks….I really hate losing Lucas May…..I do like Scott Podsednik….Not sure about this trade

It’s like any good soap opera, whether you are into the daytime and/or the night time variety. All the characters are relatively the same with the same issues as they had when you last talked about them months ago.

……………but like any good soap opera, it’s hard not to watch and can be slightly (okay more than slightly for some) addictive.

I wonder if getting Podsednik means Manny is going to be moved? As far as I know, a player can’t be traded while on the DL.

Alright!!! A 34 year old OFer!! Woo hoo our season’s saved.

And all we lose is yet another catcher that’s got to be better than Martin.

That Ned is one shrewd operator.

Dodgers acquire OF Scott Podsednik for two minor leaguers.

LOL!!! very true POB, but there are those few that never die and just keep haunting the rest of the cast for a very long time, if not forever. The problem is Frank is haunting us and he certainly isn’t dead yet (I don’t think).

Good evening Dodger Faithful….and our Beloved Boy’s in Blue!!!!
.
Gonna take a shot in the dark here……………
.
RALLY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!
.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO

Bye Bye GA but knowing Ned bye Paul.

Howzitgoin’ ITD?
Just waiting for the box score so I can get the lineups.
WOW that was some game yesterday, thanks to Billingsley, Kuo, Broxton and Andre coming out of sick bay with the flu and clutch hitting us to victory.
Well here we are again, another must win, can’t afford to lose game.
GO KURODA
GO BLUE.

who did we trade anyone know?? I like having him though

Is already been up on yahoo for a while Carroll is in LF Ethier is back in the lineup

I hoping Podsednik and Furcal in the 1st 2 spots.

Lucas May and Elisaul Pemintal (pitcher)

Who said May was going to be traded apparently he was?

I’d rather it be Blake and Pemintal

I loved your pieced keep adding POP to the blogs

Now i heard a stupid rumor on espn lol…..Kemp and prospects to Houston for Oswalt and Pence….No wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

If this is true….Which i don’t think it is…..Do not do this Neddie

Hello gang!!! Hope you are all having a great day!!! Hey Dodgerzona(nice moniker), I heard they wanted Loney and prospects. Ether way, no dice in my opinion!! Now if they would take Martin and prospects, I’d jump all over it!!!!

Yes jhall…Go ahead and move Martin and prospects….This can’t be true….got to be bs

I believe Shad’s talking about Derrek Lee rejecting a trade to the Angels jhall, not Cliff Lee.

Me too, Jhall and Dodgerzona.

I thought we had problem look like the Angels having bigger problem than us. Pinero got hurt and is out for 6 to 8 weeks and it look like they traded for Lee and got rejected.

I don’t see the point in this trade, at all.

This pitcher works really fast…a few Dodgers need to get dirt in their eyes or re-tie their shoes…

Gurnick tells me he is a replacement for Johnson, who’s on the DL.

Nice story remind me of Felix Rodriguez.

Claire: Jansen an unbelievable story
From Minor League catcher to big league pitcher in one year

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100728&content_id=12731062&vkey=perspectives&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

Tell me more Shad. Is the Cliff Lee deal off? I’d rather go after Lee than Oswalt.

Well, that’s the question Jhall!! If you are getting Podsednik to unload GA, then fine. If you are getting him to send Xavier Paul down, then that sucks!! Maybe Paul, with everday play, can be our Buster Posey, but Joe loves his PVL’s. Hopefully we won’t have to put up with that anymore after this season.

Nice hitting JAMEY

I don’t know ask the Rangers but the other one is staying with the Cubs.

Let’s go Dodgers!!! Let’s get some runs boys!!!!

Jamey Carroll is my kind of team ball player!!!

I wasn’t too against Carroll when we got him. I liked him when he played for the Rockies and then kind of lost track of him when he left there. He has been one of the good surprises this season. As far as Podsednik, I like him as well, but I think there is more coming down the pike and that is what scares me. Who is going and who is coming?

My condolences to the family and friends of the late former Dodger, Billy Loes.

I’m a bit miffed about the Podsednik deal. Evidently, they don’t have any faith in Paul. When Manny comes back, do we unload GA? I’d send GA packing before Paul. JMO!!!

lol why would the Angels trade for Cliff Lee?

At least there is an upside with Paul. He displays some semblence of defense. Manny’s gone after this season and hasn’t done jack!!!!!

I agree, Jhall.

Former Raider Jack Tatum dies at 61

RIP Tatum of course it was a day late.

HI IDT!,

lets rally up! I can’t believe Torre takes kuroda out, with a BP we have! Can I rant some more?

This whole nightmare inning took wings with Mr. Shorthop Martin’s inability to feed DeWitt on Gwynn’s steal. Good throw, he’s out. Kuroda gave him every chance by throwing over to first many times. As jhall would say, unf**kingacceptable.

If we ever need runs we need them now.

Rats!!!®. You took the words out of my mouth Kahli!! Our offense needs to f*cking step it up!!!

Maybe should’ve stick with Sherrill.

WTF do we have Trashner drop him now.

I seriously can’t believe I wanted Sherrill to get the last out.

Well, this really sucks!!!! I blame myself. I walked onto Padres property today when we were checking out their spring training facility. My brother-in-law (a Padres fan) said I shouldn’t have done that, and maybe he was right – lol!!!! I know………………………..where in the hell have the bats gone? Just scary really!

The offense is running out of time and Padre bullpen is tough.

Goodnight gang!!! Have a nice evening!!! I just can’t accept this crap anymore. Got to get’em tomorrow!!! EXCELSIOR TRUE BLUE BELIEVERS!!! Thanks for picking me up last night D4Life. Catch you all down the road!!!!!

There’s still hope, no matter how dim the candle.

I shall try to purge these demons, but I’m going to need more cowbell… Dæmon, get thee hence!

Please Fear the Reaper

All our hope has gone
Here Brim Reaper comes
Hitters don’t fear the Reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
(Why would you call him?)

Come on Torre
(Please fear the Reaper)
Torre don’t wave your hand
(Please fear the Reaper)
Won’t be able to fly
(Please fear the Reaper)
As long as he’s our man

La, la la, la la
La, la la, la la

Any lead is gone
Once Brim Reaper comes
Torre and his washed-up vets
Will be together for eternity
(Sweeney, Loretta and Anderson)

40,000 men and women every day
(Like lemmings off a cliff)
40,000 men and women every day
(Off the Washington Bridge)
Another 40,000 coming every day
(McCourt laughs to the bank)

Come on Torre
(Please fear the Reaper)
Torre don’t wave your hand
(Please fear the Reaper)
Won’t be able to fly
(Please fear the Reaper)
As long as he’s our man

Love of PVL’s
Paves our road to hell

Another night of sadness
And it was clear he couldn’t come in
Then the pen flung open and the Reaper appeared
Two batters up, the game disappeared
Taschner comes, reaffirming our fear
(Please be afraid)

Come on Torre
(We’re all full of fear)
Stop running to him
(Kiss the W goodbye)
Looking backwards as you say goodbye
(Why would you call him?)
How much more can you stand?
(Why would you call him?)

Come on Torre
(Please fear the Reaper)

I doesn’t look good folks.

Outstanding North!!! I love it. I can now rest happy tonight!!! Thanks!!!!

Could this team slump be due to the fact that our owner is an idiot? I mean really, how can all this crap not affect the team as a whole? I know the players are all saying the right things, but what else are they supposed to say? The guy is your boss. Work environment is a big deal. Yes, we can all walk into our jobs and do our job and probably not think twice about it, but if you are working for an idiot boss, you may not put that extra ummphh into it to make the job worthwhile for a boss that doesn’t really give a crap right now.

Awesome, North!!!!!

No prob, Jhall

What song comes up on my TV? B.B. King “The Thrill is Gone”.

How appropriate.

Wow!!! Northstateblues – fantastic!!!!

As far as my post, I am not giving any players any excuses. I certainly am not in their heads, nor are any of us, but something just isn’t right.

Note to Ned:

You can stop looking. There is no Chris Gwynn Jr.

LOL!!!!!

Tomorrow we will prevail! GO DOGERS

Tomorrow we will prevail! GO DOGERS

and… Boom goes the dynamite.

But good news everyone (Seriously):

Barring a comeback, we end the night 5-2 against the Padres, and have 5 more games against them this week. There’s definitely hope.

I think we will too Koufax!!! Maybe having Podsednik out there will give the team a jump start into a run producing machine of a team again.

Go figure the last 3 times they had the lead off hitter on they scored 2 runs. Last 2 innings 4 extra runs with 2 outs. They scored 5 of there 6 runs with 2 outs.

I say we saw first hand tonight what the other teams have gone through with the Padres and why they’re in first place.
And most likely why they will win the division.
If the Giants keep it up and our offense doesn’t turn it around soon, it’s all over for the Dodgers.
If it hasn’t ended already.

lol retiring the last 19 Dodgers seriously. Calls up some of those minor leaguers players right now.

lol at giving bath at a McDonald.

Reality sucks, but this team? It no hit without Manny. That’s the way it’s always been with this current group. The Dodgers (with or without Frank) need to find a power-hitting left fielder IN HIS PRIME for 2011. EthierKempLoney still need that anchor. Jayson Werth, part 2?

I mean birth not bath.

lol what’s wrong with this picture?

Of course the categories are. GP AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BA OBP SLG OPS

8. LA Dodgers 23 11 12 3.76 6 1 0 205.2 0 86 91 74 172 .248

Hey! I’ve got an idea! Let’s score some runs and take some heat off of the pitchers! There’s a concept!

Good Morning Dodger Faithful, and Our Beloved Boy’s in Blue.
.
Joe has called this squad underachievers, Mattingly say’s they need to get back to the basics at the plate, and work the count better. Bills say’s that players feed off each other, and it is kind of fun. I tend to agree with all of these ( Pearls of Wisdom ) borrowing that line from Tony Jackson.
.
My thoughts on Podsednik, are that we clearly need a spark on offense, and his BA is above .300. X Paul is inexpierenced, and although, I like him. Having someone who appears to be a consistant bat in the line – up, is an upgrade, if we are going to remain in the mix of things. Losing Lucas May even if he is as good as Martin ( and I don’t believe is ) doesn’t bother me much. Although Ned saying, we will cross that bridge when we need to does. I realize this is after the fact, and lbirk, I read your thoughts and respect them. ( my thought’s are, trading Santana, even with a young and promising Russell was a mistake. ( especially the way it appears to have been done. ) I am not saying, I have no faith in Russ, ( I DO ) or that I regret getting Blake, (I DON’T. ) Just that it was a valuable asset to have, and it was similiar to hocking your work tools at the pawn shop. Anyhow that is history, just as the first two thirds of this season are.
.
The last third of the season is a battle, so losing one game to the Padre’s is just one game. We need to start going about our buisiness one pitch, one swing, one put out at a time. Making sure we maximize our opportunities, in every aspect of the game. We don’t need heroe’s, we need smart ballplayers. We are getting better, Belisario may be back soon, Sherrill is contributing more to the game than he has, Jansen has fit in nicely, the starters are giving us quality starts, Raffy is providing leadership on both sides of the field. Those are all positive aspects of the game, that we have going our way. Now we just need to capitlize on them and further our quest to be elite at the seasons end. As far as the post season anything can happen. Although as for now it should be one pitch, one swing and one put out at a time….doing so with bliders and a smile…a great big smile.
.
We take to the field again tonight everyone, Carpe Diem Dodgers, Carpe Diem!!!
.
Enjoy your Thursday all…and enjoy tonights game as well.
.

It looks like Oswalt might be wearing a Phillies uniform.

With all due respect to the Dodger faithful (call me a pessimist, I prefer realist though) what the hell do we need with another 34 year old OFer for at the expense of another catcher that has to be at least as good as Martin? Is Martin so wonderful all of a sudden that we can’t live without him? Or does Frank eye a potential 20% paycut to him as a good thing (though May would’ve cost him 1/12th as much.) And let’s face is, Ellis never projected to be anything more than a back-up.

This team has no hope of competing this year or the future. We’re always one bad start away from another loss, and given Billz’s, Padilla’s and Kersh’s track record, there’s several more bad starts in there. The bully stinks on ice if their names aren’t Brox, Kuo or Jansen. You’ve got a 3Bman that’s gone into the Nomar zone where no 3Bman should’ve gone before. We’ve a 2Bman that should probably be playing in AAA if not AA. No hitting… Slacking defense… What’s for Ned to save?

And that’s just this season. Next season it gets worse with Frank Can’t or Won’t Spend McCourt.

Dig a hole, push this season in, and cover it over. Unless ownership and management change, we’re looking at being the Cubbies for a long long time.

Of course Oswalt’s in a Phillies uniform. THAT TEAM knows how to make it to the World Series (and win). McCourt can tout two appearances to the NLCS, but the Phillies can tout their killer instinct to make it to the next step and beyond.

I welcome Scott Posednik to the club, and he will be innocent in my eyes ’til proven guilty. But here’s the impression I’ve gathered from him (from living with a White Sox fan over the past decade).

Over the past 3 years, any time Posednik’s name was mentioned, the White Sox fan either sighed, or angrily grumbled. Sound familiar?

Well, according to what I’ve read, good average, not so good slugging percentage, fast, likes to steal, gets caught stealing too (someone else can look up stats, I’m not the most stat-minded person). Sound familiar?

Like I said, I see him innocent ’til proven guilty. But if the stats and trade papers are to be believed, this move means that management, the GM and Front Office agree that the problem with this team is not enough high BA/low OBS pop. Sound familiar?

As long as Frank McCourt owns the team, we’ll be good enough to make the playoffs, but will never be given the tools from outside our organization to make it over the hump.

There’s only 25 men who can change this, it’s all in their hands.

“I’ve been downhearted baby, ever since the day we met
I’ve been downhearted baby, ever since the day we met
Our love is nothin’ but the Blues,
Baby, how blue can you get?”
- B.B. King, “How Blue Can You Get”

Sounds like JP to me!!!!! LOL!!! I am laughing and grumbling at the same time. I don’t know much about Podsednik, other than what I have read. This whole ordeal is just saying Manny was a waste of money. How many outfielders does it take to figure out left field? Too many for Ned.

I refuse to give up, until I have too. I refuse to give up until I have too. I refuse to give up until I have to.
.
I will do whatever it takes. I will do whatever it takes. I will do whatever it takes.
.
Just sayin….It ain’t over till it’s over, and it ain’t over!!!
.
The odd’s are in your favor, (BPB1) alway’s have been.
.
But if your going to play and win you have to do it against all odd’s.
.
I am not saying, that I have all the answers, just that I have never quit playing a game until it they made me.

I am not giving up either, but if we win it, it will definitely be against all odds because we aren’t even being talked about as a threat for anything. Then again, what do the experts know?……………….the Padres are still in first place, and after all the talk about how they will eventually find themselves at the bottom, the experts are still dumbfounded that they are still in first place. Anything is possible and nothing is impossible.

Northstateblues – I can try and work on the stats throughout the day/night. The expert statistician, Dodgereric, is out of town through Friday or else I am sure he would be right on it. He loves his stats!

Then again, our other statistician, Shad, might be working on them as well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILLZ!!!!!!!

I just peaked at the NL standings, Nelly. It would appear that not only do the Phillies set themselves up good for the wildcard race, they have a chance to take the NL outright. They still must come together as a team, just as we do.
.
The Boy’s need to worry about the Boy’s, and start playing for a ring, or soon they will just become money players. The history books are full of money players, with only a select few having the ring.
.
That is what we all want is it not?

You know why we got Posednik – he’s already signed for next year for $2 mil. Can’t pass that bargain up. Honesly, the team can’t score and their answer is another [basically] JP?

BTW, terrific song North!!

No worries D4. I’m just sick of this regime blowing smoke up our collective asss saying they want to win, then trotting out every hasbeen and neverwas like they were a fine wine. Its obvious Ned has no clue how to put together a team, money restrictions or no. Torre can’t manage without a high payroll, that we know too. And Frank is about as worthless as they come.

Posednik is just the latest symptom in the disease that is Frank ‘n’ Furter.

Lisa Dergan’s alright though :)

If we were dealing with Kansas City, I would’ve hoped we would’ve scored Greinke. So much for that, I’m sure Ned Colletti was disappointed to learn that the outfielder he was mostly interested in hasn’t been able to recuperate from that devastating hip injury against the Bengals in ’91.

I was gonna type something longer, but went ahead and deleted it. There’s no point in talking to a brick wall (or a tin ear), and granted, I’m just a 29 year old who has yet to make a name for himself in this world, I wouldn’t know how to run a World Championship-grade baseball franchise either.

But it doesn’t take inherent Baseball Business knowledge to read between the lines on what Frank McCourt thinks of Dodger fans. He would do well to heed the old saying “Actions speak louder than words”. Dodger fans have been fooled too many times, and the empty stadium and torrents of sudden ticket deals speak for themselves.

Frank McCourt can talk about Dodger Tradition and winning all he wants, if he isn’t going to do what it takes to win the World Championship, that’s the only concrete thing that matters.

And Dodger fans are not like Red Sox fans. We do not celebrate pennants or “division championships”. We celebrate World Championships. That is the definition of success in sports, if you don’t believe me, look at the career of Dan Marino. (and how perfect would it be for Don Mattingly to manage under this paradigm?)

“Wanting to win” and “Doing what it takes to win” are two entirely different statements. There is no doubt in my mind that Frank McCourt “wants to win”.

Despite 4 playoff “appearances” in 6 years, Frank McCourt does not have what it takes to win a World Championship.

Yet.

No worrie’s here either…..I enjoy ALL the comment’s on here.
.
Just doing what I enjoy doing!!

I think you should make that “EVER” North.

BTW, does it surprise anyone that Miller cleared waivers and is back at Albuquerque? Are there any DFAs of ours this season that didn’t clear waivers? I think Green decided to be a free agent rather than accept going back to Alb. (which is why we have Castro AGAIN), and one of the Ortizi may have gotten picked up by the Mets, but doesn’t the fact that NOBODY wants these guys speak volumes for their abilities in the first place? And doesn’t that speak volumes towards Ned’s ability to get even reasonably talented players?

I’ve said this before too, and I’ll say it again – this organization is an embarrassment to its fans.

Its simple:

Phillies Org. = Winners
.
Dodgers Org. = Losers

How else would you explain Lee, Halladay and Oswalt vs. Wolf, Padilla and Garland? (Not to mention the Ortizi, Haeger, Miller, Trashner, et. al.)

Okay…it’s official. Oswalt is a Phillie. Now, what dumb-asss move do you see us making? Or are we going to stand pat?

This team just seems to lack the BELIEF that they can win it all. Part ownership for upgrading nothing, part Joe for sitting on the railing and inspiring nothing, part PVLs who are contributing nothing, part Ned for finding nothing. As has been the case the past few seasons, when push comes to shove, who are the ones carrying their weight? The kids. Top three in the two most important categories: runs (Kemp, Furcal, Loney)…RBIs (Loney, Ethier, Kemp). The Angels are already taking of selling, not buying. Somehow, I think this team would survive down the stretch run (if there be such a thing for this club) without Blake, Carroll, Belliard, Anderson, Johnson, Traschner, Sherrill and Ausmus. Could the Dodgers get ANYTHING for these Ned gems? Probably not, but somewhere out there is a contender that must need a tweak or two…

Here’s one Tru (TOTALLY UNTRUE, BY THE WAY):

Loney and Paul to Philly for Jamie Moyer.

Would be a move that totally reeks of Colletti.

Sad, but true, North. I hear Lilly is still out there too. How about another washed up ex-Giant?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbzMsIcp6fI&feature=avmsc2
.
Gut check time!!!
.
Come on/ Come on!!!

What a surprise – Ned didn’t get Oswalt or Lee or Haren which is who they were “looking” at. I “look” at them every day on MLB network — I guess that is what he means when he says that he is “looking” at someone.
.
No Oswalt I agree that a shovel & hole is needed. Trade the PVL’s we have for some catching, pitching, and infield prospects & call it a season. Please don’t trade for Lilly who is another #4 or #5.
.
Enough is enough with this stupitidy!
.
The thing that’s painfull is that this organization had some great young players and were in a position to win for years that would probably of breed a winning attitude/tradition for a few years. But I fear the good players we have now will jump ship as soon as they can which will set us back a few more years.

I would of gone after Uggla & Bautista from Toronto as well as an ace. Then traded Casey and put DeWitt at third. Also traded GA for a bucket of balls.

Hi Everybody
Well it looks like we went from Juanpy to Scotty Pod in about 6 months.
The Dodgers are holding on by their finger tips as we all know
and right now it doesn’t look like they’ll make it.
I’m personally rooting against the Giants and Cardinals. I’d hate to see them in the postseason.
I think the best thing to do is just enjoy the games and as usual.
ROOT FOR THE DODGERS!!!!!

Wow, Podsednik leading off instead of Furcal and Kemp sitting???? Resting Kemp????

Same ol’, same ol’…Stupid Torre/Ned

Emma, you’re Crazy!!

Maybe my faith in the Dodgers’ upper echelon even wanting to win was misplaced. Seems to me they’re waving the white flag.

Hopefully Posednik will make Ned look like a genius. If we get at least one Championship out of this Front Office, I’d be a lot more… um… lenient with my attitude.

But if you’re going to tout 4 “appearances” in 6 years and back to back NLCS “appearances”, get the hell out of MY TOWN.

Even the plunging Rockies say they won’t be buyers, but perhaps sellers. Wouldn’t “selling” be the perfect punctuation mark for this season? Frank saves money and admits he had no intention of competing.

SELL THE PVLs…then SELL THE TEAM!

Did anyone note that in the deal with Philly, Houston ate $11 mil of Oswalt’s remaining contract? That’s a wet dream for Frank ‘n Furter.

But we got Posednik and Castro so that should make us about even.

Guess with Strasburg on the DL now, there’s NO REASON TO GO TO THE DODGER GAME THAT NIGHT. Hit Frank where he lives. BLUECOTT!!!

I see Posednik is going to leadoff tonight which means one of two things:
.
(A) He goes Juan for 4 like our other JP
or
(B) He goes 4 for 4 and there’s still no one that can drive him in.

Did I get this right? Philly gets Oswalt, SD gets Tejada, and we get divorce court?

Hello ITD!

A friend emailed me that I am being featured here:

http://www.mlb.com/blogs/

Good job Emma. NSB, I echo your comments. Wanting to and getting the job done are quite different. I have no idea if the ownership squabbles affect the players. Really, does anyone really think major league players play for the owner? They play for themselves, their teammates, maybe a manager, and maybe for the fans as well. I am not a stat guy either but from where I sit, the Dodgers are not winning because the core group we all touted is not getting the job done. What did you really expect from Blake, Manny and Furcal? Actually Furcal has done well recently. Didn’t you expect more from Kemp, Martin (seriously), Ethier and Loney? Not that what they are doing is bad, it is just not good enough to carry this team. This team still lacks a superstar. Maybe Kemp and Ethier still can get there. Let’s hope so.

I know I supported the trade for Blake even if it meant giving up a catching prospect. I am not sure about this recent deal but it is telling for one big reason: Ned is dealing with the here and now. Is it possible even he no longer is looking at anything beyond this season?

Whoops. 1-0 already. Game over. Catch you all tomorrow.

Not a shock there you should know that Furcal would bat 2nd. lol comparing Podsednik with Pierre is just dumb but you can compare both of those arm.

No to Bautista and he does played 2nd bases?

In 21 games that he played this month he hit in 20 of them and has a 15 games hitting streak.

Apparently Scott haven’t seen Kemp AB’s as of lately. After looking at 3 called strikes I’ll sit his *** down to.

Do the Dodgers really want Ted Lilly???? They had him many moons ago, but traded him (on July 31, 1998) along with Jonathan Tucker, Peter Bergeron, and Wilton Guerrero to the Montreal Expos for Carlos Perez, Mark Grudzielanek, and Hiram Bocachica. Now there’s a lot of useless parts! Must bring a tear of joy to Ned’s eyes.

Wow you still remember that trade?

New thread, folks.
