Second half gets underway

How about that NL? Wouldn’t it be something if it turns out that Broxton gets the last out of the Midsummer Classic and the Fall Classic, with one happening in Anaheim and the other in Game 7 at Dodger Stadium?

Lots of preview stories in the media today about the second half and while some have said that our schedule will be more difficult than most, others have said it will be easier. I guess it all depends on perspective. We will be playing a lot of teams over .500, but we’ll also be playing the NL West a lot, and we’ve fared quite well against our own division, as you all know. In fact, the Dodgers actually have the best record in the NL against NL teams, so that’s a good sign, too.

But there’s plenty of work to be done…four teams are right in the thick of things in the NL West and with Manny coming off the DL, here’s hoping the team can stay healthy from here through the end of October.

The last six games against the Cards have ended in Dodger Ws. How about a seventh?

It would be really nice if Broxton’s save in the All-Star Game resulted in the Dodgers winning a 7 game World Series (but I’d take a 4 or 5 game series in the AL Park as well, or a 6 game series win…).

It’d also be really nice for Frank McCourt to realize that, though it didn’t take an A.L. East approach to win in the N.L. Wests of last decade, it will take an A.L. East attitude to compete with the likely A.L. East team we’d have a good chance of facing should we reach the World Series.

I still separate The Game from The Business, and to me, the revelations that have come out in the last 72 hours has the ability to solidify the team in their quest for a championship in a new Dodger world where nothing is written in stone (or stapled, for that matter).

A Baseball team winning it all in spite of the lavish excesses and childish attitudes of the bickering ownership has Hollywood written all over it.

There is a rumor that Reed Johnson is going on the DL. What mysterious ailment has developed over the last 4 days. Here we go again!!!

Great posts by all these last couple of days.

GO DODGERS!!!!!

Oh goody! That means we can keep Anderson longer!!

Reed was put on DL…nagging back injury :) And, yes, BPB1, we will be blessed with the clutch hitting from GA :) :)

I have tried to not let the ownership squabble get in the way of enjoying this season. I figured things would work out one way or the other and there was nothing I can do about it. I admit to being one of those lemmings.

However, as more and more information comes out about the relationship between Frank and Jamie and how they came to where they are today, I have just about had it and ask the same question: why did MLB allow the McCourt’s to become “owners” of any franchise, let alone the Dodgers. We all knew the deal didn’t really follow all of MLB’s guidelines but something had to be done to get Fox out of the picture. Did the McCourt’s “pull” something over on MLB? Obviously Frank is good at working with borrowed money and may be a great salesman.

At this point there is little that can save either Frank or Jamie’s image. Neither one has the money to buy out the other if it comes to that without even more borrowing. These two people had to know a divorce fight would lead to nothing good but apparently their egos are just too big. Sad.

No surprise on the Johnson move and it probably would’ve been Sherrill again if he wasn’t waived.

Did anyone see this and yes I know it’s a bay site so there might be some who’s seen it?

I wish I could edit that post and should’ve read takes notes Mccourt.

Well it look like Willis signed to a minor lague contract with the Giants.

? Sherrill not sure he’d go to Minors
.
The way he’s pitched all year, that takes quite a bit of gall on Sherrill’s part don’t you think?
.
Unless of course George knows he can’t get minor leaguers out either.

Shad, thanks for the article about the sale of the Golden State Warriors. Reminds us of the same thing Frank and Jamie said when they bought the Dodgers. I guess every franchise is “storied” to the new owner.

Gosh freaking announces jinxed they just had to mention those 2 walks?

No problem lbirken.

YUCK!!!!

Kershaw a little shaky so far. They said Carpenter has been struggling lately, I don’t see it so far.

Nice DP by the Dodgers. Holiday gives us one again, but not as bad as the dropped fly ball.

THANK-YOU, ANDRE!!!!!

Alright DRE!! That’s the way to break the ice!

“What was her (Jamie’s) biggest impact on the organization?

“I still have no idea. Oh, maybe the hiring of Ned Colletti. I’ve heard stories that she became close friends with Jeff Kent after he volunteered to help domestic violence victims as part of her WIN Initiative. Both she and Frank respected Kent’s willingness to serve the community. Jeff mentioned Ned Colletti to Jamie because he knew they were looking for a GM. Jamie suggested it to Frank. Ned killed in his interview because he didn’t ask how much money he’d have to play with. A few former execs told me all this, so take it with a grain of salt. But it starts to make sense that Kent was responsible for Colletti when you see the contract extension he was rewarded with after Colletti got there.”

The more I read, the angrier I get. Thanks, Jeff, for Ned. Fox and the McKooks…a double disaster. Makes the 22-year championship drought easier to fathom.

Not the way I was hoping to start the second half!

Totally sucks!!! Put Sherrill in. Let him work on his recovery since he is probably too selfish to go to the minors to get it together!!! Bast*rd!!! No, I won’t go down, I’ll stay here and hurt the team. What a piece of sh*t!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol 4-17 vs them in Stl and what is it with this stadium and the old busch?

You kidding me Torre this game is out of reach let Sherrill finish it.

I forgot Link was back but still.

Obviously Sherrill didn’t accept going down to the minors. Oh what the hell, stick it to the basturds George – the team might as well be just as dysfunctional as its management.

Clayton Kershaw, who was scheduled to start the game, and the Dodgers’ four All-Stars — relievers Jonathan Broxton and Hong-Chih Kuo, shortstop Rafael Furcal and right fielder Andre Ethier — all were excused from the workout. Torre said Broxton and Kuo showed up anyway, leading to a lighter moment during pitchers’ fielding practice.

Kuo, whose throwing error led to the only American League run in Tuesday night’s 3-1 National League victory in the All-Star Game, was the first pitcher to field a ball during practice. Torre said Kuo then received an ovation from his teammates when he made a perfect throw to first base.

Short hops

Torre said Ethier, who played center field for the first time since college when he started there in the All-Star Game, is the team’s backup center fielder with Reed Johnson on the DL. But Torre indicated he still hoped to avoid that situation, so regular center fielder Matt Kemp figures to play every inning of every game — something he has done for most of the season anyway — until Johnson returns. … Torre said James McDonald remains the odds-on favorite to be recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and take over the fifth spot in the rotation when it comes up on Monday night against San Francisco, but that it hasn’t been made official yet. However, Torre did say McDonald has been scratched from his scheduled start for the Isotopes on Friday against Round Rock in anticipation of the callup.

The article starts out about Sherrill

The Dodgers 1) barely ever win St. Louis, 2) never do well after a break, and 3) usually don’t fare well against upper-echelon pitching. Therefore, tonight’s loss is as surprising as seeing the sun at dawn.

Interesting that Sherrill remains on the active roster while being outrighted. Strange game. I hope he sticks…I like Sherrill.

Oh oh Ned there a former Giants they got released yesterday.

I wonder what’s Belliard problem is? After all the heat we’ve been giving Anderson and now it’s the time to get on Belliard now and he’s like 0/18.

Ethier 2 hits last night and Prado 1 hit give Ethier a .02 lead in the batter title and we have Ethier and Loney in the top 10 in the batting average and if Furcal gets enough PA would be 3 if Loney keep his average up.

Ouch thanks for draining it Anderson and Belliard.

Personally, I thought Anderson would come around, and Joe should keep putting him out there until he showed he can’t do it. Well…. Don’t think we can afford this much longer.

I hardily agree with those who think Sherrill should be outta here one way or another. This is p**s-poor hanging around, taking up a much needed spot in the pen. Let’s hope his mommy tells him to start holding up his end of the bargain.
