Second half gets underway
How about that NL? Wouldn’t it be something if it turns out that Broxton gets the last out of the Midsummer Classic and the Fall Classic, with one happening in Anaheim and the other in Game 7 at Dodger Stadium?
Lots of preview stories in the media today about the second half and while some have said that our schedule will be more difficult than most, others have said it will be easier. I guess it all depends on perspective. We will be playing a lot of teams over .500, but we’ll also be playing the NL West a lot, and we’ve fared quite well against our own division, as you all know. In fact, the Dodgers actually have the best record in the NL against NL teams, so that’s a good sign, too.
But there’s plenty of work to be done…four teams are right in the thick of things in the NL West and with Manny coming off the DL, here’s hoping the team can stay healthy from here through the end of October.
The last six games against the Cards have ended in Dodger Ws. How about a seventh?
Inside the Dodgers 
It would be really nice if Broxton’s save in the All-Star Game resulted in the Dodgers winning a 7 game World Series (but I’d take a 4 or 5 game series in the AL Park as well, or a 6 game series win…).
It’d also be really nice for Frank McCourt to realize that, though it didn’t take an A.L. East approach to win in the N.L. Wests of last decade, it will take an A.L. East attitude to compete with the likely A.L. East team we’d have a good chance of facing should we reach the World Series.
I still separate The Game from The Business, and to me, the revelations that have come out in the last 72 hours has the ability to solidify the team in their quest for a championship in a new Dodger world where nothing is written in stone (or stapled, for that matter).
A Baseball team winning it all in spite of the lavish excesses and childish attitudes of the bickering ownership has Hollywood written all over it.
There is a rumor that Reed Johnson is going on the DL. What mysterious ailment has developed over the last 4 days. Here we go again!!!

I have tried to not let the ownership squabble get in the way of enjoying this season. I figured things would work out one way or the other and there was nothing I can do about it. I admit to being one of those lemmings.
However, as more and more information comes out about the relationship between Frank and Jamie and how they came to where they are today, I have just about had it and ask the same question: why did MLB allow the McCourt’s to become “owners” of any franchise, let alone the Dodgers. We all knew the deal didn’t really follow all of MLB’s guidelines but something had to be done to get Fox out of the picture. Did the McCourt’s “pull” something over on MLB? Obviously Frank is good at working with borrowed money and may be a great salesman.
At this point there is little that can save either Frank or Jamie’s image. Neither one has the money to buy out the other if it comes to that without even more borrowing. These two people had to know a divorce fight would lead to nothing good but apparently their egos are just too big. Sad.

Shad, thanks for the article about the sale of the Golden State Warriors. Reminds us of the same thing Frank and Jamie said when they bought the Dodgers. I guess every franchise is “storied” to the new owner.

The article starts out about Sherrill
The Dodgers 1) barely ever win St. Louis, 2) never do well after a break, and 3) usually don’t fare well against upper-echelon pitching. Therefore, tonight’s loss is as surprising as seeing the sun at dawn.
Interesting that Sherrill remains on the active roster while being outrighted. Strange game. I hope he sticks…I like Sherrill.

Ethier 2 hits last night and Prado 1 hit give Ethier a .02 lead in the batter title and we have Ethier and Loney in the top 10 in the batting average and if Furcal gets enough PA would be 3 if Loney keep his average up.

I hardily agree with those who think Sherrill should be outta here one way or another. This is p**s-poor hanging around, taking up a much needed spot in the pen. Let’s hope his mommy tells him to start holding up his end of the bargain.
