First a bobblehead, then a Sportscenter commercial…

Even without Andre Ethier in the lineup, the Dodgers won their ninth straight last night on his bobblehead night and there was a packed house at Dodger Stadium.

Now, Andre is over at ESPN Los Angeles studios to film a “This is Sportscenter commercial,” which usually means you’re pretty darn big if they’re asking you to do this sort of thing. And even better, you’ll get to see the behind-the-scenes footage of the commercial shoot, as the Dodgers Media Network is here getting some pretty cool stuff. Amazingly, there are like 40 people on the set for a 30-second spot. Pretty crazy.

What’s next for the budding star?

Well, he’s got an upcoming action figure night (July 8), a poster (Aug. 20) and a few other big time media requests we’ve gotten for him. We’re going to try to bang out most of these while he’s hurt because unfortunately, he can’t play at the moment. But, hopefully he’ll be back soon and by then, who knows, maybe the Dodgers will be on a 23-game winning streak…

A chance to move into a first place tonight at the Ravine against the Padres…

Josh – I have been telling everybody since he became a Dodger Andre would be a star!!! That is too cool!!! I have a feeling he is going to be the Joe Mauer of the NL. He is going to come of the DL better than he was when he went on it. Move over Albert, Andre is comin’ for ya!!!!

    Nelly and crew blu
I must commend you on your loyality and commitment to making that game. Sound likes something to be written in a column of Dodgers magazine, which I just got mine with Matt on the cover, perhaps “Tru blu fans”. Emma was pictured in the mag, to detail the appreciation dodger fans go through to see their team. I am not injecting any negativity, critique or comment. For as old as DS is it can still be a wonderful place to watch a babeball game, whoops was that a freudian typo? Ill leave it.
It has been an exciting week and more, lets keep it rolling, Dodgers are #1 in pitching over the last week.

So, if we tie tonight, is it ice cream time?……….or is it too early to think that way?

BTW Josh – Eventhough Andre didn’t play, it was great to see him spending so much time signing autographs before the game. I didn’t go over there (I was on the first base side) because I was hoping as many kids could get his autograph as possible. He continues to impress with everything he does.

One more thing……….We were listening to Dodger Talk on the radio after the game, and there was one caller who said he bought 21 one bobbleheads from the fans ( I am assuming Astros fans or families who already had their share)and then turned around and sold them for $50 bucks a pop. I was orginally upset with the caller, but then I thought about the stupid people who actually bought them – idiots!!

Great game last night….and I do hope that tonight we keep on moving up.
    *
NELLY I did see the long long line of fans waiting for Ethier’s autograph and picture moment. I did not get near that line, but hey he will be at Pasadena signing some more in a couple of weeks or so. I was seating also on the 1st baseline on the lower reserver section near the outfield right above the restaurant. I have several bobble heads, maybe I should turn around and make me some money… LOL!

    Hello ITD!
I too noticed Andre signing for alot of fans. I was sitting close by the field level observing and taking pictures. I too did not get want to get inline like I mentioned in FB. Afterwards I went upstairs to the RS to wait for friends Linda & Greg from the Big Blue Wrecking Crew (dodgersoul.com) I know some of those people from back in 2003 when I first started posting in the Dodgers.com forum and then they formed their own forum.
    .
They are having a group get together (small in comparison to the ITD group) and I was buying an extra ticket for a friend that wants to join us Saturday July 10th at 1:p.m. with the Cubs. She might end up with extra tickets (some people saying they were coming and backout without paying her (she bought the tix b4 getting all the money). Anyway, I am trying to help her so she won’t get stuck with them.
    .
Linda and Greg are so nice and make such a cute couple. They moved here from Phllie this year. Greg has been trying to get back for the last 18 years. They had season tickets back in Phllie and now have a mini pkg in RS. Linda likes the Dodgers after her Phillies and wears Dodger gear but with her Phillie hat If you saw my post and pics from San Diego, she is the one that cut the word SD and LA from the “Beat LA” t-shirt giveaway in SD and sewed it back to read “LA Beat SD” while at the game. She is in the picture (bottom right had corner) showing her t-shirt.
    .
I did not get to listen to all the calls from KABC. The last call I heard before going home was the nice Astro fan with the Texan accent that bought a ticket at the last minute but had to give up the BBH.
    .
Have a great rest of the day everyone!
Let’s keep on winning. I am wearing the same Dodger earrings to the game I’ve been wearing thru the whole winning streak.

    ibirken,
I started reading your posts and those two names (McGriff and Jordan) came to mind about the obscure bbhs. I have my BBHs filling out a closet and some around the house. Some are open on top of one of the bookcases. Every once in a while when the guys are not doing well, I light a candle around them. My friend Lore reminds me “Emma, is time to light that candle.
    .
I also have a Kermit, Miss Piggy and the Dodger Dog bbh.

  7. lbirken@aol.com

I heard that guy on Dodger talk last night driving home from game saying he bought and sold 21 bobble heads! He also said he enjoyed the game and was out side selling peanuts on the street as cars approached the stadium. Not sure I believe him but we did see a lot of people outside the stadium with bobbleheads as we were approaching the gate. No one tried to sell us one but I thought once you entered the stadium, there was no re-entry.

I have not opened any of the bobble heads. Not sure what to do with all of them as they are quickly filling up a closet. Clearly these things are among the most popular give aways. The Dodger talk hosts were talking about the most obscure bobble heads. I have to say for me the Fred McGriff and Brian Jordon dolls have to top my list. The Dodgers must have been desperate to create dolls for these guys.

  8. trublu4ever

Collie ~ I bet you won’t have to pay $50 for the bobblehead. That idiot was bragging about how much money he made last night. So much for the poor economy. As we were leaving the game, we were chatting with two Astros fans (very nice people, by the way) and she said that since she was wearing her Astro gear, somebody wondered if she would sell her bobblehead. And, she did, for $35 each.

  9. trublu4ever

lbirken ~ If you want to smoke cigarette, you have to leave the stadium. And, now they make you come back through the security check and show them your marked ticket. I’m just wondering if, since the ticket is scanned again, does it count in the gate totals?

  10. bluesplash09

I have this sinking feeling that Ramon isn’t going to let us get 10 in a row. And what happened to Manny? Update me Gurnick!

  11. oldbrooklynfan

    Hello IDT.
Here we go again, Ra. Ortiz will get the ball and we start all over again hoping it will turn out the same way for the 10th time in a row, WOW. I’m hoping Ortiz turns out the same way.LOL
I keep thinking that Padres are really getting upset. Here’s hoping that ‘Dre is careful with his pinkie while he’s working on that Sportscenter Commercial.
    LET’S GO DODGERS!!!!!!

  12. oldbrooklynfan

I forgot to mention that I wanted Manny to hit one out tonight but I guess it’s just as well.

  13. bluesplash09

Keep it tied Ortiz, time warp strikes again it’s 8:44 mtn time for me here as I post this

  14. oldbrooklynfan

Nice RBI by KEMP, to tie it up. MLB.TV wasn’t ready for Scully when he was giving the new line up so I was concentrating on that.

  15. bluesplash09

What’s great about this is that garland is already over 50 pitches in the 2nd and the padres went extra innings last night so their bullpen has gotta be somewhat tired

  16. oldbrooklynfan

I don’t think either one of these two will be around for long, unless they both settle down, which we seen before.

  17. jhallwally

Nice recovery!! That inning could have gotten’ very ugly. He minimized the damage and we are still in it.

  18. jhallwally

This is our #5 starter and he wasn’t even starting till a week ago. Anything close to a quality start from him is a bonus IMO. Especially against one of their better pitchers.

  19. dodge1612

why are you walking a guy hitting 150 to get to a guy hitting 300… it worked this time but wont every time… ramon needs a pink slip… and asap

  20. jhallwally

Hi’Ya Trumom!!! This game is going to come down to the bullpens, and I think we can take’em!!!

  21. bluesplash09

We walked him cause parents cover their children’s eyes when stairs comes up to bat at Dodger Stadium, nightmares from Oct. 08. Hey Tru! Let’s get 10!

  22. jhallwally

I know Ortiz isn’t the answer, but right now with Frank and Furters pitching budget plus the injuries, it’s all we’ve got. Now JoJo needs to get Weaver in there!!!!

  23. bluesplash09

Ortiz will be pinch hit for in the bottom of the inning…if he makes it out of this one. This guy is not a starter anymore, Carlos needs to get these starts with Ramon to back him up

  24. jhallwally

Rats!!® Yep, Trumom, you read my mind. LOL!!! I’m not sure why JoJo went with Troncoso their instead of a well rested Weaver to start the f*cking inning. JoJo isn’t exactly known for his bullpen management. Geez!!! That’s why he is a clown. What a moron!!!

  25. jhallwally

LOL Trumom!!! Sometimes JoJo’s pitching decisions make my head bobble!!! Nice play DeWitt!!! OK, time for some offense. We’ve still got 5 more cracks at them and I don’t think we’re going to go quietly!!! Garland ain’t exactly pitching a gem!!!

  26. jhallwally

Should’ve got more out of that inning. I’m not sure how Kemp can take that called strike. It was too good!!!

  27. trublu4ever

The one thing that makes me feel a little bit better is that the Giants are losing 13 – 1 !!!!!

  28. nedajerk

What the hell was Troncoso in this game? I knew I didn’t want him to pitch last night no need for him to pitch tonight when you have a pitcher that hasn’t pitch in a week or did he forget?

  29. nedajerk

Who in the hell would ibb Stairs anyway and how in the hell he stole a freaking base? Veneable was hitting .223 and now he bumped it up to .250.

  30. jhallwally

Exactly Shad!!! I’d really like to know what JoJo was thinking there. Oh, he obviously wasn’t!!!!

  31. jhallwally

LOL Trumom!! Thanks, it does do the heart good and leave some semblance of a warm feeling when the G’nats lose. Still doesn’t take the sting out of JoJo totally mismanaging this one.

  32. nedajerk

Dang Manny numbers have an injuries to his left foot but blah vs Garland.
    Career vs J. Garland 30 15 4 0 3 11 10 6 0 0 .500 .625 .933 1.558

  33. jhallwally

I’d give Weaver a start!! My head is still bobbling over bringing in Tronny, who just pitched two straight days over a well rested Weaver. Maybe I’m missing something!!!

  34. nedajerk

Torre should be familar with Weaver starting for us and he did started for the Yankees back in those days.

  35. dodgereric

Bobbleheads, action figures, what?s next?!? Wait, I have it!!
What about a Frank McCourt voodoo doll? And what would go better with a McCourt voodoo doll than a song???? and what would be even better is a picture, but you’ll have to go to DodgerLyrics for that. http://dodgereric.mlblogs.com/

I’m not the one who’s so far away
Great Dodger traditions you?ve let decay.
Never do I want you to be here again.
And I wish I didn?t know your name.

    Leaving town?s my desire,
You?ve put this fan through hell.
No more meaning to my life.
    Can?t wait until you sell.

    Poking, stabbing,
    Piercing, wounding…
    You getting the message yet?

I’m not the one who’s so far away
Since you?ve been the owner it really pops my veins.
So I?m using this doll that I hope creates pain,
    Complete with a face I can?t explain.

Hazing clouds rain on the field
The teams? payroll continues to yield.
Play some tunes by The Beatles
While I find some knitting needles.

    Poking, stabbing,
    Piercing, wounding…
    You getting the message yet?

I’m hoping you will go far away
If I stick a couple into your toupee.
I don?t much care if this is costin?,
If you pack your bags and move to Boston.[repeat 4 times]

    Voodoo, voodoo, voodoo, voodoo.
    [repeat]

    So far away…
I’m not the one who’s so far away…
I’m not the one who’s so far away…
I’m not the one who’s so far away…

  36. nedajerk

We have to understand Torre doesn’t believe in CG so I’m not shock but at least he know how to used Kuo lol.

  37. nedajerk

I can’t even enjoy the Giants lost since it was there #5 starters and the Lakers win tonight that I actually went to that game and miss the 1st 5 innings.

  38. jhallwally

Outstanding Dad/Eric!!! You’ve brightened up a rather bleak game. Good to see you my friend. I’m going to rack it and hope I miss a huge comeback win by our boys. Catch you all later.

  39. nedajerk

We know Weaver can eat up some innings to. Maybe Ortiz would finally get waivers like Matsui did tonight. I’d rather give McDonald or Elbert another chance. Can we clone another Ely? Bring Link back up and released Ortiz now

  40. dodgereric

    See ya jhall! ‘Nuff said!

Wow! Give those kids the job of singing “God Bless America” every night! Great performance!

  41. dodgereric

That’s a fact, OBF. Trouble is, no Ethier and now, no Ramirez. Another curious decision by Torre to play the Manny card as early as the 5th inning.

  42. kpookiemon

The winning streak kind of masked the still-problematic 5th starter. Ortiz doesn’t seem like the answer though Ned did dumpster dive with the best of intentions. Monasterios is only on the club because of Rule 5; not sure why the Dodgers fear losing him if they don’t want to be using him, pardon the rhyme. This is Manny’s Dodger swan song…maybe Joe’s, too. What are Frank and Ned waiting for? Padilla? Please. Trading for Oswalt would be great, but he’d cost a lot in players and a lot in cash, being signed for mucho bucks multi-year. To me, the obvious solution is Pedro. So go get him already. He’s Manny’s buddy, too, which might help Manny’s foot heal up???????

  43. dodge1612

I think monasterios just earned a start… one hit over three innings… come on offense… we need to be ahead of the gnats…

  44. nedajerk

If Monsterious get sent down they would lost him? Does he have to be on our roster all year or just the 40 man roster?

  45. dodge1612

good ol george… hold it where it is… is it that hard? guess it is… streak is over… get a new one tomorrow

  46. dodgereric

Funny, I would have lost a few bucks on this one. I just looked up Eckstein’s career stats. He’s hitting .282 lifetime and only .260 against the Dodgers.

Seems like he’s hitting .970 against us.

  47. 32and53fan

Since this game is so bad and I don’t have dodgereric’s knack, I have resorted to playing with poetry generators.

    Tale of the Dodgers

Dodgers are marked in time, hanging with a piece of toast.
    Listless, helpless, but never yelping
They beat down upon the grizzly frog;it looked like a smashed pitchfork.
Piercing sounds, wails, cries, “Shut Up you profane team!”
The lousy bard sings a ballad, sing the song of the team.. . In it make them die
Last for the spooking first for the shocking–Now you must realize
Diving in a lake of drear, the team found a golden snail
Down by the babbling brook the owner fantasizes.
Fetch this bone, like a dog I will grip you in my alabaster teeth.

  48. nedajerk

lol I know Giants fan hate him since the Angels days when those 2 meet in the WS and one of those Giants fans which he would died and another one which he had an ACL seriously and they say Dodgers fans have no class.

  49. 32and53fan

    Casey’s Home Runs
    .
My stadium totally skips the game with sad triple.
    The Beard’s home runs!
My Andre eats sunflower seeds; soft dirty uniforms.
    Cool!
    .
Frank’s money wastes away, like, blue stolen base.
    Bitchin’!
My game erupts with surrendered batting gloves.
Can you believe my performance spews forth total agony?

  50. nedajerk

?That is something I have to earn back. Kuo has been great for us. The only way I get that role back is if I get really hot and Kuo gets really cold, and I don’t…?
    – LHP George Sherrill, on losing his setup role to fellow LHP Hong-Chih Kuo.

Well when are we going to see it lol?

  51. enchantedbeaver

Can we stop the insanity now Joe and admit that Ortiz can’t pitch at the major league (or any league for that matter) level anymore? Sheesh, who couldn’t see that coming besides Joe? Monasterios has pitched well all year and Joe forgets he’s on the team most nights. Ortiz makes me want Padilla back, and that ain’t saying much. Surely Monasterios warrants a few starts.

Sherrill appears to be a lost cause. Where’s Bunnynutts with his sage advice correcting his problems?

We all knew the streak would eventially come to an end, but just when you think that maybe the pitching staff had turned the corner, they revert back to a couple weeks ago.

  52. trublu4ever

More bad news for us, BPB1…..Haeger looked sharp in his outing. So, he will probably be rejoining the team. Yuck!

  53. blueteapartymember1

Cool song, dodgereric! And that’s a great picture along with it on DodgerLyrics too! LMAO!!

  54. nellyjune

WOW!!!!! Fabulous song Dodgereric!!!! ………….and a LMAO picture as well.

iwannabelikebear1 – I am sure Dodgereric can arrange for you to get one 🙂

  55. nellyjune

Some awesome poetry by 32and53 fan as well………..cool!!! I am trying to catch up on my reading :))

  56. nedajerk

Wow Saito just got bomb last night and he like 40 yrs old and still pitching well than both Ortiz and now we need to get rid of the last Ortiz soon.

  57. nedajerk

Wow that like the 2nd times someone call me that. I’m already having nightmare about Ned and Frank.

  58. perumike

Good morning all! I missed the game last night, and as I can see, didn’t miss much. I did see Casey’s home run, second in two nights. Our pitching has done extremely well in spite of the speed bump we hit last night. Let’s do it tonight, and then put a whooping on the Tigers! Have a great day!

  59. Dodger4life

    Good evening everyone……………
    .
Kershaw trots to the hill tonight!
    .
I am looking forward to another fine performance, from all our Boy’s in Blue tonight……
    .
    GO DODGERS GO!!!!!!!
    .
    Enjoy the game everyone

  60. lbirken@aol.com

Eric, thanks for the chuckles. What a great opportunity for fan give a ways. Can you imagine how fans would have reacted to a Barry Bonds voodoo doll?

By the way, if the action figures the Dodgers are giving away to kids only look anything like the picture flashed on the message board at the stadium the other night, it is a good thing only kids get them. They looked really lame. I am sure the kids will love them and that is o.k. with me.

  61. enchantedbeaver

Now Birk, how can you use the term “lame” with anything associated with the Dodgers. Why Frank, Ned and Joe would have… your…

    NEVERMIND.

    New thread BTW.
