On a happier note, by the time this blog posts to Facebook, we’ll probably be at 200,000 fans so nice work, people! We’re about 30 fans short but it never ceases to amaze me how many people out there love the Dodgers. Just looking around the ballpark here in SD tells you that.
And as a response to 636566cy’s post about tickets to the Yankees series, I’m glad you asked about why we aren’t putting individual tickets on sale. Here’s the deal.
Every year, for games like Opening Day and the Postseason, we offer our Season Ticket holders the opportunity to purchase additional seats prior to the public on sale. It’s a very common practice for sports teams across the country. As we stated in our news release, the volume of requests that we’ve already received from our season ticket holders has been extremely high. Obviously there are a lot of people who want to come to this series. While we have Opening Day every year and we’ve been fortunate enough to be in the postseason in four of the last six, the Yankees don’t come to down that often. Demand for these tickets is quite large.
At this point, we can already tell that once we give those season ticket holders the opportunity and take care of our internal ticketing needs, there will not be seats available to put on sale for the public. We obviously can’t sell what we don’t have and we have to take care of those who commit to season seats.
A side benefit that this also helps assure is that we will have Dodger fans in the house for those three games and that the ticket brokers won’t snap up every seat in the house. If we were to put them on sale to the individual public, I think it’s fairly safe to say that an enormous portion of those seats available would wind up on eBay or other such sites and begin selling for four or five times face value, if not more. And a huge portion of the people who will buy them will be Yankee fans in Los Angeles, whereas Dodger fans are much more interested in seeing seven games over the course of the season.
The seven-game plans start for as little as $9 per game, or $63 for an entire week’s worth of games. We believe that’s a very fair price, and there are plenty of other options, too (including some that have food included in the right field pavilion).

I find the explanation on the Yankee tickets a bit weak. All it tells me is that Frank sidles up to the season ticket holders who have the money. The rich get the spoils, while Joe average gets the shaft.
I also find it interesting that its OK for Frank to rip you off for 6 more games of ticket costs, but its not OK for someone to get them to sell on eBay for their own profit at whatever the market will bear.
And that’s a bunch of crap about filling the stadium with Dodger fans rather than Yankee fans. I’m sure a good third of the crowd will be cheering on the team from the Bronx.

Can’t argue with you there, that’s business. But it’s not the Dodger Way I remember, and I’m only 29.
I remember well into the 1990’s buying single game tickets for Opening Day, having gone to more than I can remember. It was almost a tradition for my family growing up. And we’ve filled sections of Dodger Stadium with groups many times over the O’Malley years. That was also at least a once-a-year tradition.
One of the things that made the O’Malley Dodger Way great is that THEY DID NOT DO BUSINESS LIKE OTHER TEAMS, THEY DID BUSINESS THEIR WAY, THE DODGER WAY, AND THEY KEPT THE FANS HAPPY.
And that is why the Dodgers have inherited 3.5 million + fans every season to this day.
That is why the McCourts have inherited Dodger fans who were happy to buy 14 game plans for a chance to see the New York American League Baseball Club. The ones who were soon to be shot in the foot less than a month later when the 7-game plans came out.
I know you know what the Dodger Way was, Josh. I also understand why you have to toe the line. I appreciate everything you’ve done here and likely will continue to do here at Inside The Dodgers.
But everytime McCourt puts out a Press Release saying that they must do business this way because other teams do it, that the reason they Gerrymandered the seating sections and ripped out foul territory for more expensive tickets was because other teams do it, THAT WE HAVE TO KOTOW TO THE IMAGE OF THE ALMIGHTY NEW YORK AMERICAN LEAGUE BASEBALL CLUB BECAUSE OTHER TEAMS DO IT, I can’t help but be confused over whether to shed a little tear, get a little sick, or both.
That being said, great win tonight! Glad to see the Dodgers doing great, kicking the Padres and reminding them who owns the gold in Southern California. 3 more games to go (with two against Houston inbetween)… GO DODGERS

I’m going to tag onto northstateblues theme a bit here and question why the Dodgers feel like they need to follow what every other team in baseball does. Frank continues to give lipservice to Dodger Tradition, but this decision flys in the face of Dodger Tradition. As pointed out earlier, Dodger Tradition is that every fan had equal access to tickets and it was first come first serve.

The other flaw in the the explanation is the whole season ticket holder thing. While I understand that season ticket holders get the opportunity to buy extra game tickets (I’m a season ticket holder myself), the real problem is that there are plenty of single game tickets available. The front office has made the awful decision to bundle those tickets into packages to sell more tickets to other games instead of just offering them to the public. If there weren’t tickets available, then those ridiculous mini plans wouldn’t be available. The front office has just decided that bilking non-season tickets holders out of more money is the McCourt Way.

One last thing: the eBay arguement. Let’s just get off the soap box please. MLB fully endorses the use of StubHub to get a piece of the secondary market pie. The front office could care less who buys the tickets as long as their are butts in the seats (that was a great attempt on your part thought to try to use that emotional plea to make your case). In fact, the front office probably fully realizes that if tickets get bought and then get put on StubHub that they actually make something out of it twice, but since the evil eBay isn’t a partner of MLB, heaven forbid that some tickets end up there. Do you even realize that the reason some of your deep pocket season tickets holders (not me unfortunately) like the extra games option is so they can buy tickets to what they think will be the big ticket games so they can resell them on the secondary market to recoup some of their ticket costs? Either the front office is blind to that fact or you were just trying to sell us a bill of goods (I thinking it is the latter).

Josh, either the front office needs to hire some people that have the real pulse of the fans out here or you guys are going to be wallowing in public backlash until the McCourts are forced to sell the team. Good luck!

Note to self……..don’t buy tickets for Sundays or day games! Manny and Casey out of lineup, along with Andre, but that is different today. It is not like traveling back to LA from San Diego is such a big feat. With that said…….best of luck to Andre. I hope the doctors do what is best for you. Take care of the problem now because we will need you more in June, July and August…….and beyond!!!

Charlie mentioned last night night that Msnny & Casey woukd probably have the day off….but, when Andre got hurt, I though Joe would change his mind. i don’t think it is fair to do this to Billz every time he goes out there. The fact that StubHub is MLB endorsed really is a HUGE point. Not to mention the fact that ANY TICKET ON STUBHUB FOR THE NEW YORK AMERICAN LEAGUE BASEBALL CLUB SERIES WILL HAVE BEEN ORIGINALLY OWNED BY A SEASON TICKET HOLDER OR A MINI-PLAN BUYER.
The Dodgers aren’t keeping tickets out of the single-ticket-minded / out-of-town fan’s hands, they’re keeping FACE VALUE TICKETS out of the single-ticket-minded / out-of-town fan’s hands.
Single ticket buyers will get into Dodger Stadium. Ironically, it’ll be by getting fleeced by the very people the Front Office is bending over backwards to accomadate. Not the season ticket holding fans or mini-plan buying fans. The green-hued Franklin, Grant, Jackson and Lincoln. (Washington is probably valued very little and doesn’t sleep there anymore) Guess if one’s sold 7-14 additional tickets, one could really care less what becomes of the other ticket.
Once again, good business sense. But it’s not the Dodger Way I remember.

I’m not dead set against the teams management, but I’ve got to say again, this mini-plan business has an unpleasant odor to it. Last time the Yanks came, I was able to get the single game ticket. Had to do it at 4:00 am, but it was worth it. Buying seven games to do it now is out of the question. I live too far.
