New Dodgers Magazine hits the stands…

For those who haven’t seen it yet (or who don’t have a subscription), the new Dodgers Magazine is out today and it features a very cool shot of Matt Kemp on the cover…if you remember the days of Bo Jackson, it’s somewhat reminiscent of that, only Matt’s shirt is on! Check it out…
p1_cover_final.pdf

Also, for those unaware at this point, Rafael Furcal is going to go on the 15-day disabled list to make sure he doesn’t aggravate his injury any further. Nick Green was recalled but is not in the lineup tonight.

And for those of you reading this and commenting on Inside the Dodgers, please know that I did not intend to ignore the comments. I try to read as many of them as I can, but I honestly hadn’t seen your concerns and I can assure you that we take the issue of fan safety more importantly than almost anything else we do. That’s not just lip service, that’s reality and I’ve been in enough meetings discussing it to assure you of this fact. And because of that, I ask those of you with concerns to email them directly to fanfeedback@ladodgers.com. That way, they will be logged into our system and can be addressed by our Fan Services department.

One thing I do know is that on any given night, about 99 percent of the stadium behaves well and represents the Dodgers in the manner we’ve all come to expect. But, we need to make sure that the other one percent does not ruin the experience for others and your comments do not fall on deaf ears.

Here’s tonight’s lineup:

Johnson, LF

Martin, C

Ethier, RF

Kemp, CF

Loney, 1B

Blake, 3B

DeWitt, 2B

Carroll, SS

Kershaw, P

NSB, you never cease to amaze with your prose.

I would like to address the alchohol issue. When Artie Moreno took over that A.L. team from Anaheim, what was the first thing he did that endeared himself to the fans? Sign a big time free agent or rising current member of the roster? Cut ticket prices? Cut parking fees? He lowered the price of beer! I am not a beer drinker so I admit I don’t get it but from what I have been told many times, beer and baseball go together for a lot of people. I have no idea if the Angels have any issues at their park but I can tell you that when beer was no longer sold at UCLA football games, there were fewer unruly fans in the stands. Sure, those fans tank up before the game and many smuggle booze intot he stadium. However, I believe by not selling beer, a better fan experience was created.

I attended the game last Saturday and did not notice any problems. I was sitting in field boxes near home plate where security was quite present but other than the nasty beach balls, all the security person had to do was direct taffic and tell people not to stand at the end of the aisle. But let me tell you about the young couple sitting next to me. They were nice and friendly but they came after the game started, each with some food and a beer. They soon got up and asked me to make sure the Pirates did not score any more runs and then left for a few innings. While they were gone they missed Andre’s three run blast. When they came back they each had another beer. The nursed those and then a couple innings later they disappeared again only to finally return again each with a beer. No way were these two folks drunk or unruly but I could not get over the three beers each these folks had during the game. How much did these beers cost? My guess is these folks did not pay for these tickets (as I had not paid for my two seats; they were given to me by a business associate who got them from one of his business contacts). The point is this revenue is quite important to the Dodgers even if there is a social cost to the rest of us. Since I don’t drink beer I would be happy if it were not sold anywhere in the stadium. I think it would help create a much more pleasant experience but then again, a lot of fans don’t mind overpaying for a brew in a plastic cup at a ball game. So unless the team wants to give up a huge amount of revenue, it is the team’s responsibility to make sure this revenue stream is worth the cost.

I wish Carroll was hitting .300.

Josh — Thanks for the new thread.
.
That being said we’ve been talking about this since about April 19th.
.
I for one wish my comments have been seen and discussed. Rest assured I’ll be sending messages to the link you provided. I will also continue commenting on here about it.
.
NSB – Awesome post my friend!!! That is worthy of a STANDING O!!!!

I think they should moved Dodgers stadium near the Staples Center or overthere where the Memorial Coliseum is at. Well if they have it around Staples Center I only live about 30 mins away from it and I don’t even have to take a car to get there.

Thanks Josh! I subscribe to the magazine but I see it at Dodger Stadium before I get in in the mail.

One thing I would like to see at the stadium is individual scorecards. They used to sell them before. Sometimes I forget my scorebook or is full and it be nice to be able to buy a single one like at Wrigley Field. The Dodgers used to sell individual ones. I have a couple of cool ones like one with a portrait of Lasorda and another one shows the portrait of Kirk Gibson on the cover pumping his fist.
.
Looking forward to “This our Town” blanket tonight!

Thanks, Josh.

From the previous thread—-Brilliant post from Northstateblues.

Let’s win this game tonight, Dodgers.

GO, DODGERS, GO!!!!!

(Note: This was written before the recent addressing by Josh of the issues surrounding Stadium Security. Taking this into consideration, I’m reposting this because the issues described and to-be-described are bigger than any perceived ignorance of the front office about Stadium Security issues. This project is fan feedback at its rawest, with the content being such that a child of 5 could read it and not be debased. Thanks for the reply on the issue, and accept this first part as a minorly-outdated [by less than an hour] writing.)

A Treatise on Dodger Stadium Security and Fan Experience
by Johannes non Silentio

Part the First:
Los Angeles Dodgers Tradition
Past and Present

Silence is golden. That’s how the old saying goes. Yet, nothing has been golden yet about the McCourt regime that currently counts the Dodgers among their multi-faceted business ventures, unless one counts Division “championships” as banner-worthy, the way that our red neighbors to the south hang their Division “championships” on the wall the way an elementary school student’s parents hang their Honorable Mention ribbons on the refrigerator. As one can see from but one glance at the signs that adorn Dodger Stadium, only one thing has mattered to fans: Winning World Series Championships.

Since 2004, when the McCourts took control, the Dodgers have punched their ticket to October four out of the past six seasons. Commendable? Certainly, and as one can expect when the ballclub plays at a Playoff-level caliber, prices at Dodger Stadium, from parking to tickets to Dodger Dogs and bottled water, have risen across the board.

Do fans like paying more money? No. Yet, in this new century, a sports fan expects that prices will eventually rise as a team gets better in order to keep at the Playoff-level caliber of play, in the hopes that the money being spent on the ballclub will fill in the gaps that resulted in early-October exits to possibly raise the team to a World-Series-Championship caliber of play.

Discussion on this topic cannot go much further without pointing out one glaring fact about Los Angeles Dodger fans: they are a spoiled bunch. Through the start of the 1996 season, Los Angeles Dodgers fans have only had two managers, both of which had won multiple World Series Championships for the Dodgers, and two owners, father and son, who made the Dodgers brand of baseball one that was respected, cherished and valued not just nationwide, but worldwide.

If there’s one thing a Dodgers fan hates, it’s change, because fans had it good for so long, with $11 being the most one would ever think about spending on a seat in Dodger Stadium, and the promise of a great farm system producing homegrown talent to support outside additions, resulting in continuously competitive baseball. Cheap, affordable, great place to bring the family, as the O’Malleys used Disneyland as the template for how the fans will be treated by the stadium staff. The stadium speakers filled the air with organ music, as the fans’ transistor radios filled the same air with the golden voice of Vin Scully, both coalescing to bring the feeling that Southern California was getting a unique treat: Baseball-as-it-should-be, at, as the great Tommy Lasorda calls it: Blue Heaven on Earth.

This is what was known as “Dodger Tradition”, and/or “The Dodger Way”.

Looking at the current situation, this franchise that carries the name “Los Angeles Dodgers”, except for the jerseys on the ballplayers and the blue that envelops the stadium, is somewhat unrecognizable. In 14 short years, the price for what once was the most expensive ticket in the house will not even get one’s car into the parking lot. The pristine blue walls of Dodger Stadium are awash in advertisements, the speakers blaring Motley Crue and Ke$ha, so many lights, shiny objects and thunderous stimuli, it’s near seizure-inducing.

All these innovations were brought into existence for one reason: To increase finances, improve the cash flow. With a new owner promising to right the ship that FOX nearly wrecked, and charging increasing fees around the stadium as the team comes to playoff prominence unseen in two decades, the fans wanted to belive that Mr. McCourt knew what he was talking about when he spoke of “Dodger Tradition”, forgetting that he was a lifelong Red Sox fan who very recently ventured into California, and would be the Red Sox owner if the commisioner hadn’t turned him down in favor of John Henry’s group.

The owner who espoused “Dodger Tradition” would soon move the Dodgers from their traditional, world-famous spring training home in Vero Beach to the Arizona desert, which, as a real estate person, was probably too much temptation to resist putting your mark on a storied franchise. This wasn’t too surprising, though, seeing as how, upon becoming the owner, he essentially deleted the foul territory that had long made Dodger Stadium a Pitcher’s Park, and replaced it with astronomically-priced seating that, for a year, had the worst sightlines in Dodger Stadium history.

If one thing is certain, it is this: The extra money fans have been paying out since 2004 is not going to the club on the field. Payroll is shrinking, the pitching rotation is in disarray compared to even a year ago, and almost every opportunity to improve the club in the offseason was passed up unless it fit a bargain-basement criterion that has been The McCourt Dodger Way.

Instead, it seems as though the ownership is intent on spending money on everything but the Los Angeles Dodgers, using the Dodgers as a vehicle to fund their multi-faceted machine, as opposed to the storied Dodgers franchise being the machine that the funds work towards. Since becoming owner, the McCourt empire has bought the Los Angeles Marathon(hoping to add a companion bicycle race next year), has been working on plans to host an NFL stadium at Chavez Ravine (even though there are two businessmen currently involved in two plans that are further along and ultimately somewhat more realistic and ideal), and bought two Malibu houses (as the ownership seemed reluctant to spend money to either re-sign Manny Ramirez or any other top-level player), all while the ballclub’s payroll plummets faster than the teams’ standing through April.

The owners even saw fit to announce their impending divorce on the eve of the team’s second consecutive NLCS appearence, a fanbase bent on revenge for the previous year deflated like a balloon, as the team, though their performance had improved, ended up with the same result.

Yet, all of this could easily be forgiven if the McCourt regime could uphold the O’Malley’s Disneyland template for fan relations and experience. After all, premium costs are the price we pay for the security needed for a good old fashioned day at the ballpark. But, as in many of the aforementioned instances, the ownership again misses the mark, and since the beginning of the season, has remained silent on these issues that the fans who line McCourt’s pockets hold dear.

Part the Second:
Security and Fan Experience
(In Regards to the Changing Zeitgeist
of the young American)

great post northstate… so true, I miss the dodger way, watching true blue the championship years makes me yearn for those days, where we won with our players not anyone elses… anyways go dodgers…

if a guy on the radio asked kemp the question and then he answered and said…yeah coletti needs to try harder. we have 28 million on the dl, another 20 million to jones, pierre..heck even schmidt and nomar. and our payroll is less than the brewers including that..so yeah he should be better than that. he was last year

99% of the crowd is well behaved? So for an average game (based on around 3,750,000 annual attendance) there would be roughly 46,300 fans present. That means that 463 troublemakers are in the park. It is more likely that 99.9% of the fans are good. That still means that there are about 46 jerks on any given day that are hassling the good citizens of Dodgertown.

How come everytime I try to post 1st my post comes up 2nd?

junger, you are so funny. However, I would hope Kemp would be smart enough not to answer such a question that way, just as I would have expected Ned to have been smart enough to have answered in a much better way.

WOO-HOO, Giants BP just blew the game for Timmy!

Birk — I don’t like the foul language as well but I know it happens. That isn’t my frustration as I know it’s pretty much everyday language these days. I would love to see that stop as well.
.
But I also don’t think that’s something for the Ushers to have to deal with at this point.
.
But when these are directed at other fans for whatever reasons, then something should be done.
.
IMO you hit the nail on the head with the comment:
.
“The problem is by the time security gets involved, an ugly scene has already been created by the incident itself. The challenge is not only to handle these incidents when they happen but try to prevent them in the first place. Perhaps the security should act more like some of the umpires and throw the bums out quickly. Clearly, there would need to be more, better trained security personnel on staff on whom the ushers could rely to deal with this stuff.”
.
Security & the Ushers need to be increased, better trained, and ask once for the aggressor to calm down/stop. After that then if it continues, then Security should be summoned for the escort out.

That’s really weird… My last post went up above my previous post! Really strange goings on.
.
I was also going to mention that NSB. Prayers out to the Harwell family. From the interviews I saw with him he was classy & kind.

I’m excited for the game tonight. Taking 3 of 4 from the Pirates is an improvement but not something to pump your chest out over.
.
Now beating the Brewers (Even though they’ve been struggling) would be a nice next step.
.
Kersh does well at Dodgertown so let’s hope that continues as does the good D!
.
Take care…

Rest in Peace, Ernie Harwell.

A golden voice silenced on Earth to be heard in the Heavens for eternity.

He was to receive the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award at Fordham University tomorrow.

I’m fine with people drinking. It’s not doing anything when they are obviously drunk and are starting a problem. Depending on the situation the Ushers should step in and say something. If the person still continues to act up then Security should be summoned. You can usually see incidents starting to get out of hand before they do. If you take preventive measures then most of the time they won’t happen.
.
My issue is that in most instances that I’ve seen there was a point in time where something should of be done before the issue got out of hand and it wasn’t. Sitting there watching people get threatened and food thrown at them for 3+ innings and they are still there in the 7th and nothing has been done other than the Usher saying please stop is not the proper way to handle these issues.
.
In addition these people that cause problems should be documented so if it continues at other games they will be asked not to come back.

Even those 463 is still too much.

Glad we rarely get that crap from the Staples Centers and even LA Sport Arena. It was that one time on Xmas some stupid fan thrown those stupid foam finger but never seen anything else like that before at the Staples Center.

Collie, I will admit to sitting through a lot of games with people behind me talking all game and using a lot of foul language. The language was not directed at anyone but just used in these folks normal discussion. I am not so much offended by crude tal in certain situations but am constantly hearing the “f” word used as an adjective, adverb, noun and such every other word does get a bit tiring and there are sometimes young children sitting nearby that should not have to hear this sort of talk. However, I never did anything about it since I did not want to cause a scene. My guess, right or wrong, security does not want to cause a scene either. The problem is by the time security gets involved, an ugly scene has already been created by the incident itself. The challenge is not only to handle these incidents when they happen but try to prevent them in the first place. Perhaps the security should act more like some of the umpires and throw the bums out quickly. Clearly, there would need to be more, better trained security personnel on staff on whom the ushers could rely to deal with this stuff.

*by crude talk

Hi Everybody
I completely forgot that Nick Green was still in our organization. I lost track of him right after spring training.
I remember stating somewhere when he first joined the team that he may be our ace in the hole. I said that because I know that he’s a hustler on the field and I’m sure he will help the team a lot.
As you all know I’m for a homegrown team but right now I’m more comfortable with Reed Johnson in left field.
Let’s hope we can keep this winning streak alive.
GO DODGERS!!!!!

32 & 53 — Nice math!!
.
& Yes Shad … I agree with those 463 being too many.
.
If they really start doing something about it now then the problems will be cut down. But if you let people get away with acting like an idiot, then they will continue.

It’s amazing I just got the April Magazine with Broxton on the front cover last week.
Oh well, when your living in the boon docks…LOL

What to do about those bullies who throw food and drinks on innocent fans and try to incite them to fight?
http://tinyurl.com/fan-tasered
Maybe if that happened a couple of times the hoodlums would think twice about disrupting the enjoyment of others at the stadium.

Game Time! Greetings my Dodger Faithful and happy Tuesday to y’all.

So letz go Kid-K… time to beat the home game jinx Clayton… GO RUN SUPPORT! GO DODGERS!!!

Right from an 0-2 count to full count to a walk already. Same ol’ same o’ Clayton… :(

Geez I known Vinny didn’t want to jinx him but he also a walk pitcher to. How do you give up a lead off walk when you’re ahead 0-2 against a strikeout hitter?

I hope the Lakers win by 30-40 pts like the Magics doing and lol .209 oh Vinny I didn’t want to here that.

Say what? Kid-K in trouble with mutiple runners on base and 0 outs in the 1st? Same ol’ same ol’ for the Kid…

Top of the 11th in FLA, still 6-6. Darn that Rowand and his 9th inning HR – still good to see him back up unaffected by the Padilla pitch to the head.

Meanwhile Kid-K strikes out the dangerous Ryan Braun. Boos now from the Dodger crowd for Fatty Fielder? NICE. Kid-KK comes right back and strikes out the mighty Fielder, both offensive brew-bats down via SO, AWESOME! McGehee quickly out on a weak grounder. Nice way to de-jam yourself Clayton!

Those of you not listening or watching, Vinny is telling stories about Ernie Harwell, voice of the Tigers. He passed away today at the age of 91.

Ernie Johnson hahaha

Hello there Nelly! I figured Vin would be doing that tonight. Unfortunately tonight on MLB Extra innings I have the Brewers broadcast.

My condolences to the family and close friends of Ernie Harwell, whom I remember announcing for the Dodgers with Connie Desmond, many long years ago but I didn’t know the how he got the job, until Scully told the story, tonight.
Connie Desmond was always my favorite announcer.

Hey Collie ~ I am listening, not watching :))

Oh those leadoff walks…

YUCK!!!!!

Not good, Kershaw off to flip-floppy, rocky start: 2 walks, 2 hits, 1 HBP in just the first 1.0 IP!!!!

Come on Kersh!!! Settle down!!

Good idea Nelly!

Another fabulous post by Northstateblues again today :)))

just saying but maybe kershaw should go back to the minor leagues for a few starts… he sure isnt doing us any good right now… and by the way GO SHARKS!

Got Vinny on now! Thanks for the suggestion!!!

I really think Kershaw is better when Ausmus is his catcher to bad he’s still on the DL.

is=as

Good grief, Kersh is awful tonight…..looks like our BP will be worked again tonight. Not very good for us.

Damn lol funny seeing Molina getting ibb.

This is painful, 3 K’s but 3 Hits and 3 other bonus base-runners through the first 10 Brewer-batters! c’mon Kid-K^3 GET IT TOGETHER

IEDP would be VERY nice to get out of this nasty 2nd inn jam…

So who else is SUPER NERVOUS in this situation about now?R emember, this is the same team that can surprise you with 17 and 20 run games!

Actually that’s the 2nd is not the 1st one and I wish this blog have an edit feature.

Just about the worst thing to happen. Wild Kershaw hits his second runner with bases loaded, Braun now up and Fielder on deck. ARGH!!! Keep your control Clayton!

What is going on with Clayton? This is really concerning…

Kersh does well at Dodgertown so let’s hope that continues as does the good D!
.
I guess not… :(

SIGH, bases clearing double. So freaking disappointing. Exactly what we DIDN’T want the Brewers come in and do in the first game… let alone in the first 4 outs of the series. Yikes, 54 pitches in 1.1 IP?!?

FREAKING UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These things happen.

Wow… I thought Easter was last month… This is one stinky egg that Clayton just laid.
.
The good news is there’s a lot of time to come back here and we do have a pretty good offense when they are rolling. Let’s take advantage of their pitching getting to sit for awhile.

Brewers were shut out in 3 of 4 games in San Diego. They come here and drop a 7 in the 2nd inning.
.
So Ned hows that pitching staff you built?

Yeah they should’ve Vinny but we losing by 4 already.

Most like Ned didn’t have a choice with the limit cash he had.

Boy what a way to start the series. I guess Kershaw just didn’t have it tonight. I felt it was a bad omen when he was 0-2 to Weeks to start the game and then lost him on 4 straight balls. I hate it when he gets a guy 0-2 and can’t finish him off. He just has to throw more strikes. I guess it’s not that simple.

Well ***** this, I’m going to bed. Would take us 18 innings to score 9 runs even if the brewers left for the night.

9 runs, 6 hits, nobody left on, nobody left in scoring position.
12 batters…Amen.

oldbrooklynfan ~ I think I’ll it one more inning and then go to bed. No reason to lose sleep over this game.

They are coming back TBW!!! Although if I lived back east I’d not make it 1 more inning!!!

Oh great Rowand save the Giants butt tonight for that win when he tied the game 6-6 and what worst they won 9-6 and who get the save tonight? Yeah Mota did oh boy ruining my night and even if the Lakers blowout the Jazz by 20 pts I won’t even be happy and blah what was that again Vinny?

OMG?!? Did I just witness a 1-2-3 inning? Did you guys see the same thing?

Come back time!!!

collie ~ I’m still hanging in there, maybe they can break the shutout this inning.

I hate to say this but let Ortiz pitch more innings no need to bring in another pitcher.

Did the Brewers really scored 2 runs in 4 games?

Well at least we won’t be no-hit tonight. Good to see Nick Green called up.

I’d like to know at what point the coaching staff and GM starts shouldering the blame for this season’s mediocrity? Hell, we’re four steps below mediocrity. Are they not preparing them for the game? Father time can tell us all “we’re in a little slump”, but when was the last time Torre lit a fire under anyone’s butt? Oh I know, never. The pitching staff is an unmitigated disaster. Half the time they field like little leaguers. Half the time they hit like little leaguers too.

Heads need to roll. You can’t trade an entire team, so somebody’s got to go to show you care about something. This is the worst pitching staff I’ve EVER seen a Dodger team come up with. Half of that is Ned’s fault, the other half I have to assume is Bunnynutt’s. I haven’t seen Kersh develop under BN. All I’ve seen is Billz regress under BN. Tronco. Wade. Even Sherrill. The only one that hasn’t is Brox.

You know, when my first wife wanted a divorce, I had to get up the next morning face the mother-in-law who happened(?) to be staying with us, take care of some friggin ants that invaded the kitchen, take the kids to daycare, and still go to work. SO WHERE’S FRANK???

It would be nice if Kuroda had that CG and see you should’ve just had Ortiz to bunt.

Have a good night TBW…..if you can.

Ortiz love to surprise us like that lol.

Geez way to rob in it Braun with a 9-0 lead surprise you would even think triple regardless if you going to make it.

Oh no Haeger!!! Now I’m really going to bed.

Does it really matter? lol Vinny saying the Dodgers looking for rain but there isn’t any.

To say Kershaw had a bad outing……..Boy talk about an understatement. haha

Alright, the crazy comeback has begun! Only 10 runs left to score…

Nice RBI Sac fly Haeger! The Bottom lineup guys are getting it done! Only 9 runs left to score…

I keep getting the Brewer feed popping up behind Scully.
and it’s ahead of him.
A little more offense by the Dodgers would make this game more interesting.
That was Carroll’s first RBI
Haeger is the first Dodger pitcher to get a RBI
This year.

yeah, sellthetm, keep hating. Your bums aren’t going to accomplish anything this season and your boy Kershaw will get rocked again. Ha. Their best pitcher? Not anymore. This horrible start isn’t just a one-time thing.

You rarely don’t see 2 sac fly in the same inning.

Stupid F’ing fan in the 3rd base foul pole Field seats just cost Kemp an RBI and Triple! STUPID FAN!!!! Dumb ****…

Must be a Giants fan when wads the ladst time yoru team won a WS bitch? Maybe you need to stop hating.

Must be a Giants fan when was the last time yoru team won a WS bitch? Maybe you need to stop hating.

Must be a Giants fan when was the last time your team won a WS bitch? Maybe you need to stop hating. 1954444444444444444444444444444444444

I’m getting a lot of page loading problems, again.
This might not get out.
Does anyone know that Jerk that robbed Kemp of an RBI?

I’m sure that was a Dodger fan that interfered with that ball in play hit by Kemp.

It surely wasn’t a Brewers fan I hate this new homerun song bring back the Zombie music.

Good to LONEY Smack one.

Have Faith! Loney keeping up on his RBI/extra base streak with the 3-run bomb! Alright J-Lo!! Only 6 runs to go in the comeback…

Here we go!!!

s/b Good to see LONEY smack one.

Overthrowing…. That’s what his problem was tonight. When he seems off that what it looks like to me. Of course I’m sitting here on my couch. But he isn’t smooth. It looks like he is trying to throw the ball through the bat.

Oh god the Lakers are trying to blow this lead.

I hate scoring 6 runs and losing.

Just another loss.

Yeah the Lakers won and are up 2-0 but they needed to cut down on the TO’s having 20 suck tonight we should’ve won by 15+

Let’s see now…well, first…VOMIT. There, I feel a bit better. Frederick Wayne “Rick” Honeycutt has done…what, exactly? I mean, hell, he was hired by Grady Little. Remember him? I know it’s easy to make Frederick Wayne a scapegoat, especially in these dark times, but Billingsley and Kershaw are the measuring stick…the future…the hope…not the dumpster trash Ned has collected the past few years or the PVLs who probably nod politely and tune him out. So how has our pitching coach done with “the future?” And while I’m venting, what’s the name of the Dodgers’ owner again? Haven’t heard a peep out of him. At least he could assure panicky Dodger fans that the divorce has nothing to do with the Dodger formidable roster this season.

Well, all I can say after tonight’s game is at least the offense tried to climb back out of the 9-0 deficit after inning number 2. I am with the ones who feel there has got to be some accountability to the pitching coaches, especially to the guys who are coming up from our club. It really needs to be seriously looked into. I know Torre seems to love Honeycutt, but how about showing some tough love too. There is no way any manager or coach on this team should be allowing Kersh to give up 9 runs in an inning and a 1/3 and expect the offense to come back from that. BTW – where in the hell is our owner anyway? We told you over and over and over again we needed pitching, and what did you get us………………………Padilla, who happens to be on the DL at the moment.

Let me rephrase part of that post. What I meant was the pitching coaches with the big club, not the minor league coaches. Something is happening between the time they leave their minor league team to pitching for the Dodgers.

Greetings……….

Josh, thanks for responding. I’ve taken your advice and have submitted an unfortunately lengthy letter to that address you gave us. I offered to respond to any questions and I hope that something good becomes of it. I wouldn’t do any good to have a great team if we were afraid to go to a game and root for them.

Kahi, I worked at a Union 76 station at the s/e corner of Azusa and Workman in West Covina, just a block north of the SB freeway. It was in the same block of buildings as good ol’ Hanich Music. I was there from March ’73 to Oct ’73, took some time to recover from my first knee surgery, then again from March ’74 thru July ’76. It is now just another self-serve station of course, but when I worked there it was a service station. For those of you out there too young to remember, we pumped everyone’s gas, checked their cars out under the hood, washed the windows, changed oil, lubed the chassis, changed tires and batteries, etc, etc, and most of the time with a big smile. What a great job for a guy going to school! It’s too bad it’s gone.

Whoops, make that the southWEST corner.

I vaguely remember those days – LOL!!! (jk)

Ah Junie, you were just a little kid. :-)

BTW, I’ve tried to post the only photo I have of that place on DodgerLyrics. My late buddy Steve and I had just dropped by the place to visit before heading out to see a movie.

Yep, 73-76 I was a 2nd – 4th grader, and even funnier I was in the same classroom I am in now when I was in 3rd grade. I just realized that!!

hmmmm!!! Which one is you?

You are in the middle?

Blah the Sharks are up 3-0. Dang I wanted the Red Wings to win that series lol.

Yeah, left to right, Brad, me, Randy, Steve. Randy is the one I threatened with bodily injury if he didn’t hurry up and cover for me so I could take Chris to that Dodger double-header for our first date. I guess I owe him one. :-)

LOL!!! Ohhhhh, you owe him at least one if not two or three or even four……maybe five!! :))

Sharks all the way Shad!!! It’s the only Bay Area team (well, the A’s too) that I cheer for. I was either going for the Kings or the Sharks. The Kings are out. So, it’s Sharks all the way now.

If you look at the back of that shot, there is an apartment building. Remember “Jaws” from a couple of James Bond movies? Richard Kiel? Huge guy. His sister lived there and after visiting her, he rolled into our station once when I was there. He hadn’t been in the Bond movies yet, but I recognized him from The Longest Yard with Burt Reynolds. He drove a convertable and his big head stood out, to say the least. He walked over to one of our phone booths. Boy, did he ever fill that thing up!

So we taking a stab at Honeycutt again when I think Kershaw should take full blame and there is only much Honeycutt can do and I bet Duncan couldn’t solve Kershaw problem. Maybe Kershaw should’ve been in the minor for the past 3 years and did they really think he’s ready?

I wonder why that stupid troll even posted at me tonight and no one else and how dare him to call my name out for no reason at all.

Yes, I remember him very much. Mostly as Jaws, like you said, but I think he was also in Silver Streak with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. I don’t think he would be somebody who can hide in a crowd (or a phone booth).

A couple more things before retiring for the evening.

I find myself rooting for the Canadians. I always liked Michael Cammalleri when he was a King.

I think they ought to replay the video of that Phidiot getting tazed before the first pitch of every game at Dodger Stadium, just before the announcement that “The same thing will happen here to YOU if you try anything, so STAY OFF THE DADGUM FIELD!”

Good night, God Bless, and may we put tonight’s piece of crap game behind us. Clayton, I love ya. But PLEASE watch Kiroda pitch and learn something.

Shad – I don’t think it’s totally anybody’s fault. I think to some degree there is just too much pressure on Kersh. However, I think coaching does need to be looked into…………not necessarily just Honeycutt, but the others as well. You may be right. Maybe Kersh shouldn’t have come up this early, but then who’s fault is that? It’s not Kersh’s fault. It all goes back to the owner and what he has done to make this particular team better. He didn’t do anything to make this team better, in terms of pitching. We have the offense. We just need a pitching staff that can support it, and right now, we don’t IMO.

I agree wholeheartedly about showing that video of the Phanidiot. The guy deserved what he got IMO. Good Night Dodgereric!!! Take Care and God Bless to you and yours as well.

The Sharks look good against the Red Wings and what the heck was that curfew? Is there really a curfew at the airport? I haven’t heard nothing like this before.

Of course he’s was drafted in 2006 and pitch in the major since he was 20 years old and I don’t know how many pitcher that can pitch good after high school without being in the minor league for a short time?

I seriously can’t think of one pitcher that never went to college and had some success already with good control. I’m not going to take guy like Chapman either.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/LAD/2008.shtml

Good morning everyone………….
.
Oh Well……..Shake it off Boy’s!!!!
.
Everyone has days like that, make the next one better…..
.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!

Of course Bunnynutts should shoulder much of the blame for the pitching this season, HE’S THE PITCHING COACH. Kersh isn’t the first kid to come up to the bigs and struggle from time to time, but BN’s not helping him progress one little bit. He’s still doing the same things he did 2 years ago.
.
Billz – is he progressing? Tronco? Where’s he helping Sherrill overcome his problems? Only reason Monasterios is doing well is because Padilla’s taken him under his wing. I assume that Belli gravitates to Vicente also. Kuo and Wade I’ll give BN the benefit of the doubt and chalk up to injuries. Haeger the Horrible is a knuckleballer – nuf said.
.
If Bunnynutts isn’t responsible then who is? The buck has to stop somewhere.

The other half of the disaster falls on Ned. Padilla? Haeger? Ely? Monasterios? Link? Gagne? Ortiz & Ortiz? Perez? Towers? Weaver? Dohmann? Ayala? Miller?
.
Did Ned really think there’s a World Series somewhere in those names? Did he really think he could fill out a major league pitching staff with those names?
.
Frank may be cheap and sanction Ned’s dumpster diving, but NedCo is the one doing the “talent” evaluation and signing these guys. Sure the Ortiz’i had great springs, but you might expect that from cagey old vets facing mostly AA ballplayers late in games. Bell rings against real major leaguers and they’re the one’s getting their bells rung. Shocking how that works.

All I want is some accountability. Where and when do you see this team turning things around with the current field staff and GM? June? The all-star break? The trade deadline when Ned can bring in another washed up PVL?

And where’s Frank in all this mess? Plotting his next big divorce move? You know, the divorce that has no impact on the team. He needs to come out of hiding long enough to say, “This is bull****” and fire somebody that isn’t screwing the chauffer.

I’m sick of this crap.

I also blame Bunnynutts, Ned and Frank for this disaster! I will say again that I feel sorry for Andre, Matt and the rest of the positions players who have to put up with this crappy pitching staff.

eric, when I first moved to West Covina, in 1961, I lived one block west of that gas station, on Verness, across the vacant lot. The music store was called West Covina Music and I used to salivate at all the Fender guitars…even took music lessons there for a short while. By ’73-’76 I was away at college.

As for our illustrious team, we ought to get Joe all liquored up, turn on a hidden cell phone camera, and ask him what he REALLY thinks of Frank, Ned and Honey. Answers might align with ITD!

“This is why it’s unfair to ask him (Kershaw) to lead a pitching staff, even though he’s not afraid to take the responsibility,” said Torre.

Translation: Frank is a cheap mother and Ned is an imbecile.

I checked the score at 7:30 last night. Scoreless after one inning. Okay, I say to myself, Kershaw?s off to a good start, and the boys in blue will eventually score some runs. Then, I check back thirty minutes later, Milwaukee is still batting in the top of the second, the Dodgers are losing 7-0, whoops, make that 9-0 as Geoff Zaun hits a two-run shot off Ortiz.
.
All I could think of was those immortal words from Tiger Woods? mother: ?What happened??

This team’s in the same disarray now that was when Ned inherited it 4 years ago. Does that spell progress?
.
And don’t tell me they’ve been to the NLCS the last two years. IMO 2009 was legitimate. 2008 they rode the superhuman Manny steroid wagon as far as it could go.
.
And both years they still fell victim to not having the pitching to get it done.
.
No need to list the illustrious cavalcade of Ned’s acquisitions during that 4-year time span – we all know too well the names.

If Frank’s not going to play to win, then sell the team. If Ned’s the architect of this mess then fire his asterisk. This is like watching a train wreck.

Ken Gurnick sums it up pretty well:
?The Dodgers are trying to pull off a five-man rotation with only three starting pitchers. Do the math, or just check the standings.?
http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100504&content_id=9790132&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=la
.
So whose fault is it that we only have three legitimate starting pitchers? Frank and Ned. Period.

Right now, I think of Kuroda as our only legitimate pitcher.

Meanwhile, Garrett Anderson has sunk below Sweeney?s 2008 levels:
(BA/OBP/SLG/OPS)
Anderson .116/.152/.209/.361
Sweeney .130/.250/.163/.416
.
My prediction? Torre will continue to use Anderson all year long and his numbers will stay below Sweeney?s.

JOSH thanks for the post and I?m glad most of our comments are heard. Understand that it make take a while to be implemented. I understand how beer is official drink of sports (like hotdogs & pizza are the official food of sport…LOL). But RESTAURANTS, CLUBS & BARS controlled the consumption of alcohol. They are still selling it but they make sure that if you are tipsy, stumbling, slurring, aggressive in other words DRUNK they stop selling to that person or they make sure that person is NOT holding/drinking a beer. If they are DRUNK they get kicked out. Who wants liability of a DRUNKEN person? Once you are in the streets it is the police problem. Now the security guards, people working the stands, ushers and others need to be trained (properly trained) to spot out those people.
*
IBERKEN I have been to Angel Stadium and I have seen underage person DRUNK (he worked for the same company I worked for back then). He was going from section to section trying to start a wave and just wanted for everyone to join. He was slurring and was tripping over people and he was never kicked out. This was the year the Angels won the World Series and it was a mid season game against the Yankees (great game too). Now I don?t know who was the owner back then. But I?m sure all stadiums have some security issues. SO MAYBE UNTIL SOMEONE (DURING THE GAME) COMPLAINS THEN THAT IS WHEN SECURITY WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SITUATION. Just recently I had a friend kicked out of Dodger Stadium for being LOUD and he was just talking to his friend and yes due to alcohol he did get loud and said a bad word. He did not hurt anyone or was not disturbing others. But he still got kicked out of the game (this was this season Saturday?s game against the GIANTS).

JOSH I have one more complain….LOL….no it is not high in priority but it is something that might bring out more revenues. Those photographers going around taking random pictures of you to then try and get you to buy online. About 90% of those pictures suck…and it is due the the back drop chosen. Sometimes you can’t tell that your are at Dodger Stadium. I don’t buy the pictures just because I really don’t need a picture of me with one finger up (#1) or making a silly face and behind me it is a fat guy with his gutts all near my head and his hairy knees exposed or someone standing up with something else near me. NOOONOOO Yes the are wearing Dodger gear. But still better pictures will get people to buy those fan pictures. Photographers should pick better locations for backdrops.

NSBLUE: Great post (last post). I can’t wait to read Part II.

Northstateblues: one of the best posts I have ever read.

Did BPB2 change his name back to his orginial name ?

Oh Josh I want to applogize for using that kind of language but it hard to refrain for someone that call me out like that but can you delete all those comments since I post to many time.

Shad ~ you had every right to call that jerk out!

I thought we got away from those trolling but I guess not.

Speaking of trolls, Philly has enough problems of their own right now…I’d be surprised to see our one-and-only favorite troll. They lose a reliever for eight weeks because he got mad and broke a toe, and they use tasers on fans. Regardless of how you feel about the use of tasers, had Dodger Stadium done it, or if one of our relievers had a hissy fit, I guarantee we’d have unwanted visitors.

northstates, I’ve spent the better part of my life in Blue Heaven, but I don’t go much anymore. A buddy gave up his 3rd-row season box a few years back when Frank skyrocketed prices and added row upon row to the railing. And I have to agree. Give me Nancy Bea and Helen Dell. If I want rock ‘n roll, I’ll head to a live concert or my headphones.

messagebear, I still think Joe is a drive-by victim of the Frank’s and Ned’s criminal neglect. Joe’s ego probably rivals Phil Jackson’s. They both want a legacy of rings. But sadly, Joe must finally admit he’s hitched his wagon to an owner equally bizarre as Steinbrenner–but not nearly as interested in championships or spending money on players to achieve it. At the end of the day, I’d label Frank a dullard. Ned, as well.

Bear’s my hero.

lol I bet that was one of them and I calls him a Giants troll. I don’t think the Giants troll would be on this board lol.

Sigh bpb3 did you have to show us those numbers? I think it’s a curse every veteran left hand hitter we get always seem to do bad so who’s going to be next?

I’m going to make a big prediction and say Anderson would had more rbi’s than Sweeney had with us and his batting average would still suffer.

Down 4-0 in the first inning. So this is what happens when the Dodgers play a good team.
It’s going to be a roller coaster season…

That damn Kemp has given up 13 early runs the last two nights. Ned, you were right to get on him!

Put me down for what Bear said!!!!! Thanks!!!!

Ditto!

Hi Everybody.
It’s good to be back with the score 0-0, once again.
I know you heard enough already about Kershaw’s performance last night after watching with your own eyes, but I’m on the side of believing that, that 1/3 of an inning was just a magnification of his problems all blown into one spot. I think it was Kershaw just being Kershaw, just a little too much, but we might have to expect that from time to time, since it seems to be the nature of his pitching. I’m sure he’ll come back the next time and give us another gem.

Here we go again!!!!! UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol 4 balls hit to LF in a rows wow.

Boy, Talk about being lit up, all we can hope for is a Randy Wolf settledownment from Bills.

At least it took them 4 single to scored if Manny or Pierre was there only 3 lol.

Well at least we got two back. What’s up with our pitching lately. We’re getting murder. Come on Bills settle down.

Let’s just hope Bills just had a bad inning and the rest will be like the second inning.

Nice play by Martin to throw out Escobar. Quick release and a strong accurate throw!

Fielder was like 1/6 vs Bills and now he’s 2/3 in this game.

I hate infield single back to the pitchers when a fat Fielder is running.

IT TIME
GO DODGERS!!!!!

Bills was hit hard in that 6th.

Davis looks like he’s weakening.

Now lets see their bullpen.

Urgh I hope we won’t lost because of that bad 1st inning Bills had.

Bouttime GA

BELI’S BACK.

Gotta get Bills off the hook here.

Then criticize…..When they are on the road….WE ARE THE VOICE!!!!

Belisario had a good inning and a bad one. Damn.

Go figure runners on 2nd with no outs nothing and we give up 1 run.

As a fan, this crap is very difficult to watch!!!! UNFREAKING UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!

That may have been a sign that Russ didn’t want to take a hit…….Scoicia…..would have done what???
.
However….we will need Russ so……if you cant hear, see, or whatever……use the sixth sense……become stronger in another area……Excellerate another area…..make it your trademark……If you don’t your settling…and ringbearers REFUSE TO SETTLE!!!!

Come on Torre you know better than letting Belisario pitch more than 1 inning.

No offense D4 because you are the eternal optimist and giver of hope here on ITD, but I have to say that the only will this team has left is the one they’ll be reading after last rights are administered at the end of this month.

If they can’t turn things around by the end of May, we ought to be shipping off every vet someone will take and rebuild the farm system. Kuroda, Blake, Manny and even Furcal should be able to fetch something decent from a contending club.

Their moirdering us.

Many moons ago, when the Dodgers would struggle and seasons would slip away, we fans could at least hold out hope that O’Malley and Campanis would eventually retool and get it right. What the hell kind of hope do any of us have with this current disaster of ownership and front office?

I honestly don’t see us turning it around…..not with this AWFUL PITCHING STAFF ASSEMBLED BY OUR CHEAP OWNER AND A HIGHLY OVERPAID, DUMPSTER DIVING, GM!!!!!

Dammit Kahli, you know its all Kemp’s fault.

Ned said so.

lol I’m thinking they losing on purpose to get Ned fired

We can only hope that’s the case Shad – no one can be this bad.

Frank had nothing to do with it.
These are the same players who brought us to the postseason two years in a row.
They’re just going through a though time, right now.

Brim Reaper can’t even pitch well in a blow out game.

Here’s hoping the Rockies have a 26-inning game tonight, so they will be still tired when they come to our town on Friday.

I left Josh…..a proposal…..pound for pound…..I’ll pledge my weight loss….against their performance stats……I’m 6 ft” 325…..I was once in better shape thean any of them…..I stocked 556 sheets of drywall everyday for three years. Yep look like one of our former players that was part of the Sweeney trade 2 yrs ago is back with us now and signed a minor league contract 2 days ago maybe because of Nick Green is up with us now.

First baseman Doug Mientkiewicz has agreed to a minor league contract with the Florida Marlins and will report to their Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans.

The Marlins confirmed the deal Wednesday.

The 35-year-old Mientkiewicz is attempting a comeback from a separated shoulder that required surgery last season and limited him to 18 at-bats for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was with them in spring training this year but failed to make the team.

Mientkiewicz broke into the major leagues in 1998 with Minnesota and has a lifetime average of .271 in 1,087 games. He won a Gold Glove in 2001 with the Twins.

Mientkiewicz went to high school in Miami with Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

Dang I thought he had a job working around the organization but I guess now.

Normally I would start off by saying good morning but, this is not agood morning at all. The last two games has shown us how awful pitching really is. We all knew it was suspect from the beginning. But, this is not even pitching! It’s more like batting practice for the other team! So, big deal, Manny is coming back….doesn’t matter. Even if Manny, Dre and Matt hit a homerun everytime up, it won’t be enough. Our pitchers will give the runs right back.
.
So, Frank, see how long you fill your stadium with this crap you are putting out there everyday. Maybe you will finally be forced to SELL THE TEAM!!!!!
.
It really hurts a fan like me, who has been a fan since the Brooklyn days, see my beloved team turned into a cellar-dweller.
.
THE BEST THING FOR THE DODGERS WOULD BE FOR FRANK TO SELL THE TEAM TO SOMEBODY WHO CARES ABOUT BASEBALL!!!!!

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!

I got home just in time watch the bullpen completed implode from making only a one run deficit to an 8 run deficit. I was a little miffed at Steve Lyons for once again saying the offense needed to step up. Well, they practically came back after the 4-run 1st inning only to get another mountain of 8 runs added to them. They should be allowed to score 3-4 runs and still win a game. I understand only scorig 3 or 4 runs for this offense should be rare, but it is and will happen. The Cards/Phillies game was only a 4-run ballgame, and they have power-house lineups too. The pure fact of the matter is Torre and the fans asked/pleading for a bonifide starting pitcher, and what did we get………………….Padilla………..who remains on the DL no-less.

I love the Dodgers and will always root for them, but this is very disheartening as a fan to watch a team (offensively) have such potential have to put up with the decisons of a management team who really doesn’t seem to be doing what is right for this team.

SELL THE TEAM!!!!

red pen – completely implode :)

It sure is nice to see that the divorce isn’t going to affect the team on the field. I mean can you imagine how bad it could be that was the case?!!!!!
.
Another thought is I guess this blog is truly an extension of the team. Submission ERRORS, untimely hitting (Time warp), horrible pitching when it was known by everyone that was needed to improve (the issues with this blog have been ongoing but Management hasn’t wanted to spend the $$$ to fix the problems or they just don’t care to.). I see a corralation… Does anybody else???

Sell the team!

To paraphrase a great writer:

Frank speaks yet he says nothing: what of that?

Time check :)
10:20 pst

The time warp is now 58 minutes for ITDFST. We just might make an hour by May 22nd Dodgereric :)))

Bear — I was just funnin! But I do think it’s ironic.
.
The team and the blog are broken…
.
The blog worked fine for a couple of years then it stopped. So I’m a little confused by that.

Do any of you know where Frank is? I still haven’t found him yet.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
FRANK???

Hello Police? I’d like to file a missing persons report on Frank McCourt, owner of the Dodgers.

I’d like to make an appeal to anyone within the sound of my voice…

PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE WHERABOUTS OF FRANK McCOURT, PLEASE CONTACT ITD IMMEDIATELY. WE FOUND WHAT’S LEFT OF HIS TEAM AND WOULD LIKE TO RETURN THE REMAINS.

Would adding a #1 starter at this point be enough? Looking at the era’s of the pitchers involved last night was plain horrifying. Somebody, one of the commentators?, wants the offense to step up? You can’t score enough to make up for errors and crappy pitching. This is essentially the same bunch as last year. What’s the deal?

You may be right about that knouffbrock. I am not sure one pitcher would do the trick at this point. The only other logical problem perhaps is how the pitchers are being coached. It seems like they are being coached in the finer techniques of pitching for batting practice.
