Let’s not leave out the starting pitching either with the exception of Kuroda. Padilla just plain sucks. Kersh wasn’t sharp. Billz was shaky. And strikeouts or no, Haeger everytime his team scored gave the runs right back in the bottom of the same inning.

This pitching staff stinks on ice, and we have only to look at one man for the reason – Ned. Ortiz & Ortiz? Why not let Lindblom or Elbert or McDonald gain some experience instead?

Best thing in the world would be for this team to finish dead last and attendance to dip to under 2.75 mil, then maybe we’d get some real change where its needed – in the front office.

I’ll bet it does on Sundays and day games after night games, Enchanted. I know for sure, Nellyjune and I will never go to a Sunday game.

  5. crzblue2

I’ll be there for every Sunday! my routine is breakfast close to the stadium and then head to Our Lady of Chavez Ravine!

  6. scott_in_arcadia

Well, I’m usually upbeat and optimistic come Opening Day every year (despite my negative rants!), but it feels different this year and I don’t if it’s the McTurds or what. We didn’t make any effort to keep decent pitchers or acquire any in the offseason and although I think Bellisario & Kuowill help once back, the starting pitching is going to kill the team.

I do think the hitters are going to do well this year – when Torre plays them and doesn’t change the batting order every day so they can get in a rhythm…

I agree with trublu: Why go to any day games after night games? I would be uneasy about attending any game that precedes an off day as well.

Anyone going to Dodger games this year please remember to chany “VINNY” before the Dodgers bat in the 4th inning!!

  7. nellyjune

It’s funny because the Sunday game against the Marlins only sat one starter, their catcher, which I completely understand, but giving half your starting lineup the day off in the first week of the season is a little much. If this trend of Sundays and days games becomes habit for Joe, then IMO unless you are a season ticket holder for the Dodgers, then I don’t foresee anybody else buying single tickets for a Sunday or a day game (Opening Day being the exception). It’s just not worth the price to see the 2nd stringers out on the field. If I want that, then I can just go see the Grizzlies or the RiverCats play. At least there I know I am getting my money’s worth.

  8. nellyjune

……let me add that was “twice” in the first week of baseball half our starting lineup sat the bench.

  9. thinkingblue

Welcome Home Boys! Hope the cheering of the crowd help turns thing around….LET’S GET OUR WINNING STREAK STARTED!

  10. enchantedbeaver

I feel the exact same way Scott. I can’t muster any enthusiasm whatsoever for this season, and I think it all stems from the team being so close to their goal and management not giving a damn to get them the rest of the way. Other teams get Lackey, Santana and Sabathia. We get Padilla, Milton and Wolf.

Perhaps what we need to rally behind is a franchise slogan like the Raders’ “Commitment to Excellence.”

Maybe ours can be “Commitment to Mediocrity” or “Commitment to Greed.”

  11. nellyjune

Scott – the time clock has been increasing by 1 minute every three or four days for all of the off-season. The last time I checked it was 53 minutes ahead of pst. Dodgereric has a theory that it will hit one hour on May 22nd at 5:06. A pool will begin when it reaches 55 minutes I believe. Some of us believe this clock issue is the reason behind our submission error and redirecting issues where some of us are unable to post at all.

    10:47 am (pst)

  12. thinkingblue

JOSH seen you this morning being interviewed by KTLA. Dodger Stadium looking beautiful as always, even at 5:30in the morning!

  13. colliethec

Nelly – But the midgets have won the west already! You did ‘t know that?!!
    .
I just smile and remind them it’s a long season and that I recall them saying the same last year when Manny was suspended.
    .
    That usually does the trick.
    .
I of course have to deal with all the comments on FB. It hasn’t been to bad yet but it will get worse if the seassons progresses as it has thus far.
    .
I don’t let it bother me all that much. I just wish that the situation with the Blue was different. I mean we have been so close the last 2 years to getting a championship to not make the moves to improve.
    .
Being on the cusp of something great and knowing what was needed to get over the top but not getting it is a bummer. There wasn’t that much in the way of pitching in the FA market this year but I think they could of gotten Halliday, without touching anyone on the roster. IMO…
    .
That being said I still love this team and the players and wish them luck & as D4 says “Bring the Ring to the Ravine” in 2010!!!

  14. oldbrooklynfan

    Hiya Everybody
I remember this kid Ian Kennedy when he came up with Phil Hughes, Hughes is now the Yankee 5th starter and Kennedy’s here.
Speaking about the Yankees I watch their ring ceremony and
I have to say, I liked it.
I kept substituting a Dodger for each recipient.
It’s a great ceremony and I wish the Dodgers could be on national TV, so I can watch theirs, whenever that will be.
Well it’s the Dodger’s home opener.
I missed it last year, I was at the Met’s Citi Field Inaugural.
Who knew what O.Dawg was going to do?
Hope the Dodgers and Kershaw can get the winning going today.
    PLAY BALL.

  15. 32and53fan

    Happy opening day everyone!
This is the first time I have seen them bring all the Dodger employees that have something to do with the players on the field along with the players themselves.
The big flag is on the field and the four Navy planes just flew over.
    Play ball!

  16. nellyjune

Collie – yea, you and Dodge16 put up with the most with your fellow gnats fans on facebook. The best one yesterday was on Dodge16’s. One of his commenters said the gnats already played a “real” team, talking about the Braves. I was quick to point out that the “real” team just got beat 17-2 by the Padres – LOL!!!!

  17. gibbie23

So Kid K with 4 K, 1 BB and 1 H through the first three frames… what more could you ask for on Dodger’s Opening Da

  18. gibbie23

Mattie fooled. Bummer, 10th SO in 7 games (meaning he is on well on his way for around 231 SO’s this season!)

  19. gibbie23

(sorry for the delay, stoopid MLB.tv froze my web browser no less than 3 times in the last 10 mins!) Way to go Mattie! Nice way to bounce of the Kennedy K from the third inning with the solo jack! Looks like I am missing one helleva Opening Day at Chavez Ravine!

  20. gibbie23

Thanks 32and53fan, seeing ManRam hit it above the 385-390 zone, I actually thought it landed a little further up. Guess 435 sounds about right…

  21. gibbie23

BTW, I can’t no longer hear Vin on TV here at the local sports bar (up here in Giants/A’s country) because the kitchen music is so freakin’ loud!

  22. oldbrooklynfan

Notice how hard Raffy hit those two flyouts, real solid eh?
Clayton, 6 Ks RBI single to Chris Young, next goal? Getting through the 5th.

  23. nedajerk

Now I see why Torre wanted Kershaw to pitch the home opened. He’s just a better home pitcher than road pitcher.

  24. nedajerk

Can’t believe people are trashing Dewitt and wanted Belliard to start now on the main board but he know how to work the walk.

  25. oldbrooklynfan

Incidentally I got my 1st World Championship anniversary Dodger’s 55 since ’55 patch, I got two and one sticks to my refrigerator.

  26. sparkleplenty_1

Whew!!!!! It’s way too early in the season to be nibbling on fingernails šŸ™‚ BTW, hi Tru, Shad, and OBF.

  27. oldbrooklynfan

Attaway to go Clayton, 5 innings. He made through.
He’s going for his first win this year.
He’s got a chance if the bullpen holds up.

  28. oldbrooklynfan

    Sellthetm
DeWitt was thrown out at second trying to move up on ball blocked by Chris Snider in front of the plate.

  29. nedajerk

Btw I hate getting threaded maybe I should just waited posted all of those message because I know some might not even go back to read them but some are strange like Torre won 12 straight home opened and the last one he lost was in 1997 with Rivera trying to close a 1-0 lead and McGwire hit a homerun and than Oakland won it in extra innings.

lol a fan jump in the Royals dugout

The game drew 9,129 fans, the smallest crowd in the 19-year history of Camden Yards.

Well I guess the Orioles going to drawn crowd like the Marlines now lol.

  30. nedajerk

Ok thanks that seem weird because yahoo would have CS but I guess since he didn’t try to attempt one he won’t be credit with one.

  31. oldbrooklynfan

According to Scully I think DeWitt was called out stealing.
I think that’s the way it’s scored, Sellthetm.

  32. oldbrooklynfan

I’m writing Weavers name in for this inning.
I doubt if Kershaw will make it though this inning.

  33. gibbie23

Thanks 32and53fan, seeing ManRam hit it above the 385-390 zone, I actually thought it landed a little further up. Guess 435 sounds about right…

  35. gibbie23

Or maybe not. A 93 mph K with 0 outs and two D-bag runners on at the 110 pitch mark?!? Rock on Kid K! Great way to finish off your home opener start! SEVEN K’s for the KKKKKKKid.

  36. gibbie23

oldbrooklynfan was right, DreamWeaver in to relieve Kid-K.. and gives up an RBI single after getting ahead 0-2 (sigh). Beware, Ramon-O warming up behind him!!!

  37. nedajerk

Oh yeah espn.com called it. B DeWitt out at second on runner’s fielder’s choice. I’m familiar with that now. I should’ve had check espn not yahoo.

  38. gibbie23

Why not, after Manny, Casey-B and Mattie all hit HR’s LET’s MAKE IT A DRE DAY BABY! Nice knock out for the 3-run HR Andre!!!!

Ouch I know it early but still. We have no offensive problem.

  40. gibbie23

That RBI single is DeWitt’s fault. Why was he all playing in the hole 1st base side leaving a gigantic hole up the middle-right?!?

  41. nedajerk

Yeah I think that comment is a little bit late. I trust Weaver to pitch another inning than both Oritz. Ramon only seem to pitch great when we are trailing.

  42. gibbie23

RamTron’s first AB of the year? KUDOS to Joe for keeping him in there (JT should have done that last week Sat night in FLA in the 9th!!!)

  43. nedajerk

I think Torre should’ve stick with Troncoso when he gave that hit in the 9th innings and there was no reason for Sherrill since he’s has been awful in ST something is wrong with him.

  44. gibbie23

Nice Turn-2 to take us out of the inning Casey! So through 8 defensive innings guys, we’ve only had one 1-2-3 inning.

  45. gibbie23

ROCK ON BROX! Way to bounce back from your “days off” with a 96 mph heater to end the game! Fifth K for Brox on the season! DODGERS WIN!!!

  46. gibbie23

DODGERS WIN ON HOME OPENING DAY! Perhaps they’ll win 13 in a row at home just like they did last year after starting off 2-4?!?

  47. nedajerk

A runner on 3rd with less than 2 out with Ethier and Manny up and we get nothing and where have I heard this before? Oh yeah vs the Pirates when Broxton was the only pitcher not to pitch in that game. The Dodgers just called up Stultz activated Kuo and Wade off the DL and Belisario off the suspended list and put Padilla, Sherrill and both Ortiz on the DL since I doubt Ned would dropped any one of them.

  48. nedajerk

This was Kershaw 1st win since July 18 on my bday. Still pitch a good game until I woke up and he starting off with 2 straight innings walking 2 guys back to back.

  49. perumike

Good evening everyone! Long time no see, been really busy but am now on vacation in Chile. Read about the win, and am excited to see the offense getting it done, and Kersh pitched a pretty good one! Let’s do it again!!

  50. Dodger4life

    Hey everyone…………
    .
I missed my first game in over a year today, work called.
I see we won the game and with quite the display of firepower.
    .
I haven’t seen the highlights yet, and this blog is hard to read when you weren’t around for the actual comments.
I wish they could find a way to fix this, so that it better suits the people using it…….You know the fans!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS GO!!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO THE RAVINE IN 2010!!!!!
    .
    GOOD JOB BOY’S!!!!!!!!!!
    LET’S DO IT AGAIN TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. koufax1963

    Hey ITD,

Great opener, much improved from Kid-K’s last start, showed some power today and there could of been more, good stuff to show, especially this weekend! So everyone from ITD seems to of showed, so a celebration shot to the BIG HRs and I’ll be rooting with you tomorrow. Go Dodgers!

  52. nellyjune

Wow!!! Vacation in Chile!! Have fun Perumike and it’s good to have you back on ITD! You asked about selltheteam. He is otherwise known as Shad.

  53. Dodger4life

    Good morning everyone…………….
    .
I had a chance to view a few highlights from yesterday’s game. That must of been a sight to see in person, I am glad that Kershaw was finally awarded a mark in the win column. Hard to believe that is has been that long, since July, 09, I think? He has had some very good performances during that stretch!
    .
I hope to be around for the game tonight, until then enjoy your day all……………..
    .
    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO THE RAVINE IN 2010!!!!!!!!!!!
    .
shad great job on all the post

  54. crzblue2

    Good morning ITD!
    .
We had a wonderful time at the Home Opener yesterday.

    JUST ONE COMPLAIN:
My friend Erik was dressed as the Brooklyn Bum and I as Hilda Chester. A security guy at Dodger Stadium in the field level was following us around make sure that we turned our bags (they were bags where we put stuff like our radio, magazine) inside out. He did not want what we wrote about to show. What is wrong with what it says!??? “This IS Next Year” “Hilda is Here!”
    .
Security guy (I think his name is Gus) should have been more concern with fans (guys and women)that were drinking too much. I won’t go into some detail of some disgusting things I saw). I know no signs are permitted at Dodger Stadium but these are bags Erik’s mom made for us!
    .
I was only able to put one picture of how we were dressed because of short of time. more pics on another thread coming including one extra cute one of Andre.

  55. crzblue2

    Thanks Collie,
I can understand Opening Day how crazy it gets. At 9:40 a.m. I droved to my favorite place to park outside and it was all full but even further it was all full and you know how the stadium is surounded by parks, welll those areas they start pretty early with picnics and drinking. the police tries to get all around it and monitor it but it is packed with people since 6:am. so you can imagine that by the time they go inside some had already drank too much. Like a guy said on Dodger Talk, it looks worst women getting intoxicated.
    .
We parked inside and the cops were making the people in the next car empty all their beer bottles they had brought in. Those people should read the rules and that the enforcement was going to be stricter. Anyway, when we left the game there were some empty bottles in the parking lot. Not sure if they made those people throwing the bottles away since we started walking while they were doing that.
    .
I do feel for the cops outside monitoring around the parks areas because in downtown there were extra streets closed because of the funeral procession for LAPD officer Robert J. Cottle, killed March 24 in Afghanistan while on Marine Reserve duty.
    .

  56. colliethec

Sorry to hear about the signs Emma. They should pick their battles and use some common sense. The security that is. Also sorry to hear that you had some unpleasent experiences at Dodgertown. Sort of stinks that the inmates are still running the place. I really wishe they would get some stricter policies and do what I suggested back in ’08. We’ve not been back since the last time due to our unpleasant expeirences and poor security response. They need to get a zero tolerance policy and stick to it.

  57. thinkingblue

Now why was I thinking that today’s game was a 1 o’clock game. Men I was all excited thinking the game was on….well atleast I can watch at home!

  58. crzblue2

    Rosie,
LOL! haha, if is 1 o’clock I am super late. Nope, I will be taking the shuttle out of Union Station tonight since I took the train today. Now tomorrow, since is Jackie Robinson’s day, I am thinking of taking another vacation day or a 1/2 day vacation day to commemorate JAckie’s day.
