A ride down the 5

Out in Anaheim tonight, the first of two Freeway Series games is going to get underway in a couple hours. Tomorrow afternoon, the Angels trek up to Dodger Stadium for the final tuneup of the year and you can see two starters – Billingsley and Kuroda – for the price of one.

Meanwhile, tonight it’s Kershaw against the Halos, with this lineup behind him:

Furcal, SS

Martin, C

Anderson, LF (gotta be weird for him tonight in Anaheim)

Manny, DH

Kemp, CF

Loney, 1B

Blake, 3B

R. Johnson, RF

DeWitt, 2B

Not much else to report at the moment…last night’s opening of Dodger Stadium was smooth and quiet, for the most part, with the real deal just 11 days away.

I’m in SoCal, heading to the game tomorrow. Contributing to the Alimony Fund ;) I’ll be ready to support our team, and see them put the hurt on SoCal’s t-bA.L.l squad. There’s a lot to like about their coaching staff, though… wonder how they would’ve done coaching a Big-League club ;)

Hope they still open early for BP, even though it’s Spring Training.

GO, DODGERS!!!!!

Dang Kemp need to stop chasing those breaking ball. Manny turning into Jones

I surely hope this won’t be a problem leaving guys in scoring position.

Good inning Kershaw.

Good homer from Reed Johnson. In stirrups too. Good to see a Dodger still wearing them.

One thing I think is a positive for this season is our bench strength. Much, much better than last year.

Hi Folks

The Angel fans are relatively quiet when GA comes to the plate, but I know deep down it hurts a little.

What’s that 8 k’s for Sanders?

Hi OldBrooklynFan, game’s looking good so far.

Hopefully Kershaw will brush off that homer

I notice Matsui looks like he’s running pretty good.
I wonder if the Yankees are watching.

Hi North and OBF ~ rally time!

I’m not sorry to see E. Santana go
.
Can anyone tell me anything about that patch on the right sleeve of the Dodger uniform? I think I see 1955 on it.

Kershaw wasn’t bad.
Monasterios looks like a good pickup.

OBF: The patch is to celebrate 55 years since the 1955 championship. Here’s a link to the patch logo:

Hey Tru, yeah, the bench is looking good so far. And looks like we just went up :)

Thanks Northstateblues.

Good evening all…………
.
I just sat down and turned the game on…It is freezing up though.
.
OBF here is some stuff from Vin Scully Is My Homeboy, about the patch

GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Opps that’s Santana not Saunders boy how can I screw his last name up like that when I’m watching the game too.

That was a great day in Brooklyn.

A great day for the Dodgers.

I still want the Angels Weaver.

They took the Dodgers out of Brooklyn
But they will never take Brooklyn out of the Dodgers.

I remember the old R & S in the Dodger scrip.
I used to make the Rs in my name when I wrote it, just like that.
One time in school, my teacher said, Come back from Ebbet’s Field, Joe Pierre”.

I can’t imagine what it was like when that final out was recorded in Brooklyn 55 years ago. Must have been beyond awesome, to finally not only win the Championship, but to stick it to the Yankees as well.

That was probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience, uniting a borough rooting for a team that had been theirs since before Brooklyn was part of New York City.

The only scenario I can imagine that could ever come close in my lifetime would be if the Cubs won it all. Even the Saints winning it, with what happened with Katrina not that long ago, they’ve only existed for 42 years. Even if the Hated Giants… with the 49ers winning 5 Super Bowls, it wouldn’t be the same for them as I’m sure it was in Brooklyn.

I wonder if they have any other plans to honor the ’55 team this season?

Go Johnny Go….Johnny Be Good!!!

Thanks Dodger4life for your link.
Brings back memories of my youth.
That’s a great patch guys.

Nice snatch Carroll for the dp.

Heheh, I hope you’ve never returned from Ebbets, OBF.

I love reading about Brooklyn and the Dodgers’ role there throughout the years there, how they were literally a part of the community there. Stuff like how, after going 5-for-6 with 4 HRs and 9 RBI’s on August 31st, 1950, Gil Hodges came home to find this reception at his doorstep: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Y2jPfFxVTZo/S1fIapslM2I/AAAAAAAADNQ/XrPJDtsBYqw/s400/dodgers55patch.jpg (found the story on the UniWatch blog). With all the trappings of fame and fortune that comes with being a ballplayer today, I can’t imagine anything like this happening today. From what I’ve read, the players on the field weren’t just Dodgers, they were full-fleged members of the Brooklyn community.

This is one Californian who will never forget where the Dodgers came from :)

Cut Justin Miller I knew this guy suck.

Miller sucks! Glad he’s going to AAA.

Can’t even make a freaking throw no one that guy should’ve been at 2nd bases.

Can’t even make a freaking throw no way that guy should’ve been at 2nd bases.

I thought Hu is a good defensive player.

The good news: Justin Miller won’t be closing for the Dodgers during the season.

The bad news (for me): I’m going to be spending tomorrow with my Angels-fan cousin.

Very tense ending.

Quite a noisy situation, for a spring game…… I’m liking Reed Johnson!!!

Get Em Tomorrow!!!!

Screw those rally monkey.

OBF,
when the patch was originally introduced I posted a picture in my blog. Mike, who lives in Brooklyn and is a Mets fan posted in my blog that he wished he had that so I sent him one. He then wrote a tribute to the Brooklyn Dodgers here on March 5th.

.
He also did one about Green-Wood cementary where many baseball figures are buried. He calls it hoppin on the Trolley and giving us Brooklyn history. He is a very good writer and he brings so much history into it.
.
NSB,
Where are you going to be sitting tomorrow? Get there two hours before the game to go to BP. You can go to the kids corral area. Kemp signed my copy of the Maple Sreet Press Dodgers 2010 Annual. He is on the cover. If you take the shuttle from Union Station is on the side where the Flyaway runs and they start running 90 minutes before game time.

Hi Emma, I’m over in the Reserve section tomorrow, Section 19. Thanks for the info. Glad they’re doing the “trolley” again this year, If I lived down here, I’d definitely use it.

Excited for baseball to be starting again. I’m through with this TMZ stuff. Hopefully the Dodgers will take a page out of Teddy Roosevelt’s book, and “Speak softly, and carry a big stick”.

Hey NSB,
.
I am going to try to get there early but I got an eye doctor’s in the AM. I got contact lenses again last week (it has been at least 15 years since I used them and I am having a heck of a time removing them. I am supposed to wear them an hour before the appointment and remove them there and get my new eye glasses also. Anyway, I did not realized the game was at 1 p.m. but I am going to try to get there early.
.
Hey, you know that before the FIRST DODGER BATTER in the bottom of the 4th, start repeatedly chanting “Vinny! Vinny! Vinny!” Don’t know if you have seen that in facebook. Saturday will be Vinny first game this year at Dodger Stadium.
.
you probably already know this, but I just found out that Alissa Milano has a link to to your blog! Congratulations!
Emma
http://crzblue.mlblogs!

Yeah, I’m hoping we’ll get there early enough, I like taking in batting practice, even if it’s the away team. I heard about the 4th inning thing, was wondering if they were doing it tomorrow.

I was shocked when Alyssa added me, since I was just making drawings with a mechanical pencil and Crayola colored pencils in the beginning. I’d been a fan of hers, so it was weird thinking she was seeing those drawings. I’ve really gotta start that up again, the trouble is finding time between work, reading for classes and just the stuff life throws at you everyday. I think I’ll be drawing more this season than I did last season, though.

Better sleep before that drive tomorrow, heheh.
