A typical LA trip to Vegas…
There are many in Los Angeles who enjoy a quick trip to Vegas without ever getting a hotel room…drive in, enjoy all that the city has to offer, and drive home.
Well, that’s what the Dodgers are doing today, they’re just not driving. The team will depart Camelback Ranch in about an hour or so, head to Vegas, play a game against the Reds at our old Triple-A affiliate’s home park, Cashman Field, and then head back to Los Angeles for tomorrow’s game against the Indians.
If you’re home tonight, be sure to tune into PRIME TICKET, where Vin Scully will call the action. And if you’re around tomorrow, come on down to the Ravine to get this season started off right!

Given this management’s penchant for forcing young guys produce right away, I can’t say as I’m surprised to see Repko released. He siezed one opportunity a couple years back in spring, but then JoJo blew him out of the water for a PVL [surprise.] After that, he just never capitalized on his chances. Its not for the lack of desire, but IMO I don’t think he’ll ever develop into a ML hitter. Goodluck to him though, and may someday he come back to bite Ned and Joe in the asss.

Gib is in Vegas with tickets in hand for tonight’s game and awaiting the Dodgers. Drove in from Glendale, AZ on Monday after watching half of the Kuroda/J-Martin minor league game and after one day w/o baseball (this after 9 straight days of baseball), I’m ready for my next fix here at Cashman Stadium tonight!
Windy and possibly rainy tonight so we’ll see how it goes.
Bummer on Repko and Stults but I kind of feel they will do better outside the Dodgers org with a team that really needs them right now. Well Repko should find a good team – not sure how Stults will do in Hiroshima…

Well, maybe Padilla will turn it on when the bell rings, and maybe NOT. At least we’ll find out pretty quickly, because he should be going up against the other teams’ number 1 the first couple of series at least. If it doesn’t work out as Joe expects, it’s a good thing he’s got so many candidates for #5 – he may have to pick one of them for No. 5 and yet another for what’s now No. 1. But that’s why we have such a legendary talent managing the team, and you know that Frank believes he can do it. Why else would Joe ask for pitching help over the last two off-seasons, and Frank pretty much tell him, “I trust you, you can do it with what we’ve got”.

Torre keeps saying that were in good shape without a #1 because we have solid pitchers the rest of the way.

2 problems with that… #1 we don’t have a solid #5.

#2 While 2-4 may be very good, in the playoffs having a #1 stud ace type pitcher is the key to doing well.

IMO that is what has kept us from moving on to the WS each of the last 2 years. So maybe we can get to the playoffs with who we have now but I don’t think we can move on in them.

I’m not faulting Torre for this as he’s wanted pitching each year and gotten none. So I know he’s going to say one thing to the media, but lying in bed at night when he’s talking with his wife I’m sure the words are much different.

Think about this… Dre had 6 walk off hits last year. Do you think he could have that many this year. That was special what we saw with him last year. The Dodgers had 36 wins at home and 11 were walk offs (Over 30% of their home wins were via walk off). For the season 31 of their 69 games were via comeback which is also 45%. I’m not thinking that will happen again this season.

I’m just trying to be realistic with my expectations on this season. If they do great and I have to eat crow I’ll be very happy to ask for some BBQ sauce…

In terms of Repko, I liked him a lot. But he never did well when he had the opportunity to do so. Dre when given the shot won the job with his performance (Although it did take Joe awhile to realize it). Repko didn’t. He is great as a defensive replacement but he just didn’t produce with the stick in his hands. I just hope he doesn’t go to the Giants. I could see him doing well there & sticking it to the Blue.

As Khali said if Ned’s still around in about 7 years he’ll probably sign Repko to a contract as a PVL’er…
I see Towers is doing his best Bombko imitation.
All I can say is, better now than having him make the team and finding out later.
This team is perfectly capable of winning the west.
Its also perfectly capable of finishing fourth.

The snow melted off pretty quickly after it stopped. By late afternoon you could hardly tell it even snowed except for the few places where the sun didn’t hit.
I found that sometimes if I come out of ITD, than get back on again, it straightens out.

An article about our outfield………………………..it’s one of the bright spots for the Dodgers right now. I do look forward to see how they progress (even Manny), and I look forward to seeing how Reed Johnson is used and hoping he does well when given the opportunities to do so.

Our pitching definitely seems to have it’s issues (more than the usual this season), but maybe our outfield can provide some good balance and hopefully lead the way to another division title. It seems like they (Andre and Matt) are ready for the challenge.

Tru, maybe it’s an elaborate April Fool’s Day prank. I would certainly like to think so because DeWitt has won the job IMHO.

….but like enchanted eluded to, Andre flat out won the job in left field during spring training of the 2008 season and only an injury (the infamous piano) to JP changed Andre’s fate IMO. So, DeWitt is unfortunately in the same circumstance Andre was in during the 2008 season.
Joe’s statement ~ “DeWitt did everything we asked but turn the double play. Until we see that he can turn the deuce, we have to go with the guy who can handle it. When DeWitt bobbled the easy ground ball yesterday, it just reinforced our position that he isn’t ready to handle the job yet.”
Might as well send DeWitt packing to Albuquerque. Can’t turn double plays sitting on the bench. And whatta bench that will be with Green and Belliard.
Joe’s decision to not go with DeWitt has just proven, without the shadow of a doubt, that he is certifiably senile. Maybe DeWitt should call Juan Pierre and get the recipe for the “man love mojo” so he might be able to get on Joe’s good side. Sheesh!!!!!

If I was DeWitt I’d tell Joe and Ned where they can stick things. He’s done everything asked of him and still doesn’t get a shot. Nice message to send to the other young guys coming up. Can hardly wait for them to extend Joe’s managing contract.

You can move DeWitt around yet for a couple of years, but how often can you lock in a guy like Nick Green on your roster. That’s why we have a guy like Ned always looking around each off-season to latch on to the guys that will really make this team a winner.

Not sure where all this information about DeWitt is coming from regarding whether or not he will start the season as the Dodger’s second baseman but it seems to me the only way to see if he can handle the job is to let him try. It is not his fault he did not get enough double play chances in spring games but I have to believe they hit him a lot of grounders and worked with him all spring. And if he starts the season off good offensively, they might be able to overlook a few errors. I think we will all know soon enough.

lbirken – I am always holding out hope and I am so ready for the regular season to begin. We had the same mixed feelings last spring training, with pitching especially, and we got to the playoffs. I am saying this as I am watching the Padres on mlb’s 30/30 show. Nobody is giving them a chance to get out of the cellar this season, but they just might surprise everyone because nobody is expecting it at all. Anything is possible and nothing is impossible 🙂
