Taiwan roster officially set

Of course, anything can change between now and March 10, but as it stands, Joe Torre, Manny Ramirez, James Loney, Chin-lung Hu and Hong-Chih Kuo, among 30 others.

Most names have been trickling out over the last few weeks, but Manny has confirmed to his agent that he plans to make the trip and will be with us when we depart Phoenix a week from tomorrow.

We’ll play three games out there, host a clinic, an autograph session in downtown Taipei and Joe Torre will even have a “success seminar” for local baseball and business people.

Two of my favorite photos that I’ve seen from the 1993 trip are these…
first, a young boy who is probably about 10 years old, holding up an autographed ball from Orel Hershiser. The kid is probably now in his mid to late 20s and hopefully still a huge Dodger fan and attending these games this year.  It’s amazing what these trips are able to do in terms of creating Dodger fans and spreading baseball around the world. Love Orel! I was as thrilled as that kid when I (many years ago) got his autograph too! Had to wait outide the parking area and pushed a few kids away in order to do it, but, it was worth it to me.

Why is it Tru I can picture that episode from Seinfeld where George pushed his way past his girlfriend’s grandma and kids to get out first from the small trash fire in his girlfriend’s apartment? Well, seemingly anyway. I’m sure you were just leading the way!! LMAO!! :))

Anyone see any troubles ahead with Manny now making the China trip?

True, Enchanted 🙂 That was me!!!!

I think Manny is going because Joe wants him to go….they probably want to meet him, also. At least it will keep him away from the majority of the players, which is a good thing.

    Good moning ITD!
Thanks Josh! I love both pictures! Wouldn’t be something if the kid or someone that knows him looks at the picture now?
    .
Good for you Tru! I take it this was at the phone booth park. I love Orel too! The loss to the Phllies two years ago was a little less painful when I was able to take a picture with Orel after the game.

Good to read you again Perumike!

Reading the LA Downtown News newspaper today, I spotted this in the Events section:
    Saturday March 6
    Dodger Job Fair
Dodger Stadium 1000 Elysian Park ave, (323) 224-1466.
10 a.m. – 1.p.m.: Employers will be in attendance to interview and hire. The event is a partnership between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the city’s Employment Development Department. Atendancees should dress professionally and bring resume copies.

    Hi Everybody at IDT
I remember those very early morning games from China with the Dodgers vs the San Diego Padres.
I enjoyed ever minute and I’ll never forget them.
I’m looking forward to these games in Taiwan.

Looks like this is going to be a fantastic trip, and having Manny along should certainly keep things (ahem) interesting! Wish I was going too!

I have mixed feelings about Manny going on this trip but the again I had mixed feelings about the China trip. It just seems like a lot to ask of the players, which is why most of the regulars don’t go. If Manny wants to go, then so be it. I find it hard to believe management “forced” him to do it. I suspect his playing time in spring games will be limited anyway so perhaps it really won’t affect him all that much. I do recall something A. Jones posted during the China trip about being very tired during that trip. We all know how things went with him.

What worries me about the future is a few things. NSB mentioned it the other day & others have mentioned it in the past regarding the Dodgers don’t have broadcast rights. The Giants signed a deal in the last year or so meaning they are getting some extra income.
    .
Their minor leagues seem to have some pretty good talent coming up. In addition to their young pitchers. They should have the $$$ to keep many of their younger players. I don’t think the same can be said for our beloved Blue. At least at this moment.
    .
I think that while we might have enough to pull out a playoff spot this year (Which we wouldn’t of last year without Dre’s heroics & I’m not sure he can duplicate that this year). But we’ll see…
    .
I think the Giants payroll is actually higher than ours this year.
    .
I’m usually an optimist but I find it hard to be in this case.

Does Manny look fat in recent pictures? If anybody has ssen him in ST, please report. All we would need is another Andruw with bad wheels.

It was just reported that a 6.4 earthquake hit Taiwan…not far from where the Dodgers are supposed to play.

Thanks for the additional information, Collie 🙂
    .
One post all day and I’m getting a submission error!!!!!!

What in the world do we need another outfielder for?

Collie – we won’t have to worry about an earthquake. If we continue with this rain, California just might slide off into the Pacific Ocean, and Las Vegas and Reno will be ocean front property (jk). I hope it is the end of these earthquakes. Those are no fun as we Californians know all too well.

    Sorry Tru.
    .
Nelly the rain is the cause of the quakes. That and global warming. All the melted ice and water goes down the cracks and causes the plates to separate.
    .
    Once again… Tongue in cheek…

  15. nellyjune

Yep, and then that is even more reason to hope #3 is it then. California certainly doesn’t want to be number 4.
