Just under two days left in LA…

Forty-eight hours from now, many of us will be reporting with pitchers and catchers (though not literally, with those who actually pitch and catch).

There are already more than a dozen early arrivers at Camelback working out on their own, from what I understand, and Saturday is when they’ll all take their physicals, with Sunday being the first official workout.

If you haven’t started following the Dodgers on facebook or twitter, now might be the time to do so, as I expect we’ll be tweeting a lot more than usual and updating the facebook page throughout the day. After all, if you’re reading this right now, chances are you can’t get enough Dodger baseball, right?

Are you all planning on coming out to visit?

Josh, I realize Facebook is the in thing these days but please remember there are a bunch of us who for whatever reason choose not to be regular Facebook users. We have come to rely on ITD for information from you and others in the organization and for interaction with other fans. So please keep the information flowing here as well.

lbirken ~ I do use Facebook but, this is where I come to talk Dodger baseball……the people who post of FB are totally different than our truly enlightened and original posters. ITD bloggers are the best!

To finish my thought from the previous thread:

Where’s the illustrious help at the trade deadline that’ll get us over the hump of which Ned always speaks ?
    .
    2007
    Wells
    Loaiza
    .
    2008
    A very aged Greg Maddux.
    .
    2009
Garland – left off the playoff roster.
Padilla – who was actually helpful in the playoffs.

Nice. They were sure the ticket.

  4. lbirken@aol.com

And not to nit pick, Josh, but perhaps you should have someone take a look at the very top of this page where it says “Inside the Dodgers is back again for 2009.” Let’s see if you can get that changed to 2010.

Hi’Ya Beav!!! Just going with the flow my brother/friend!! How about you? I’m ready to light this candle!!! LOL!!!

I am a Facebook user, but I soooo much prefer to use ITD as my avenue to discuss Dodger baseball. I read what they are saying over on FB (just like I do with other Dodger-related articles), but they certainly don’t have the personality ITD has. We are one of a kind, and this is above and beyond better than the facebook version IMO.

  7. nellyjune

Hey Jhall!!!………..being all formal again huh? The only way we are going to know what are team is comprised of is to get them playing some games.

lbirken – you be as nit picky as you want 🙂

Submission errors once again – very aggravating!!!

  8. lbirken@aol.com

I have nothing against Facebook. I choose not to devote time to it and use it but I realize I am in the minority. I would rather just come here for my Dodgers news and discussion.

Play ball, let’s get the game underway…
Strike one, Your favorite players at bat.
Strike two, you fiddle and play with your hat.
And then you see him tag one right on the nose.
and then you watch it go and go and gone.
What are we waiting for? Play ball.
Hi everybody, the season will start before you know it.

?I use my single windup, my double windup, my triple windup, my hesitation windup, my no windup. I also use my step-n-pitch-it, my submariner, my sidearmer, and my bat dodger. Man’s got to do what he’s got to do.?

Good evening ITD boys and girls!
I still haven’t signed up for FB yet. I know, I know. Those of you already on FB and ITD I told you that I would eventually sign onto FB, but I haven’t yet. But I was thinking that more for business purposes, rather than personal. I don’t know. But bottom line I’m with lbirken. I prefer to talk Dodger baseball on ITD. I can’t imagine any other forum being more entertaining than my ITD friends!!! 🙂

  12. trublu4ever

I think you misread what we said about Facebook…..even if we do use it, we always come here, on ITD, to talk to our friends about Dodger Baseball. This is the best blog out there and we have the most talented and the most savvy baseball people around. ITD IS DODGER BASEBALL!!!!

  13. cpompe1

Okay, I’m getting those stupid “Redirect Errors” Yuck!!!

Hey there Seesky! Before I started my business, I said to myself, “I’m on the computer enough…” That’s why I never signed up for FB. And even though I’m thinking about it for business purposes, I still keep on hearing that little voice saying, “You’re on the computer enough!” We’ll see. So how’s the weather in UT these days?

    My Nellygirl!
Seriously, I just can’t imagine any other online forum more fun than ITD! So how’s school? How’s the Academy? How’s the family? Oh, and I know I’m late on this, but tell Mariya I said Happy Birthday to her!

  14. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Hey, cp. As for the weather in Utah, we’ve been very fortunate this year to have missed the atrocious conditions that most of the rest of the country has experienced. No significant snow for weeks and it even hit 55 on Sunday. No complaints here. Now, watch March roar in like a lion!!!

  15. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Other than the periods of inversions and smog, of course. We have a lot of the same geography as you SoCal folks.

  16. jungar@wsgcorp.com

hey everyone get on facebook and look me up jason ungar.

it’s been awesome to get to know Deb, Jane, Bob, Shawn and others. Putting the face and the personality behind these posts has been a highlight of my year (yes dodger stuff here other than maybe pics or video from the game you went to or simply get your butt over to ITD were talking and it’s heated!!)

Sure I don’t get out much anymore with two young kids but it helps. Bob and I chat almost daily and we live miles apart, have an age diff etc. And it’s been fun to get to know him…

This is all you need to know:
“The reason (we didn’t offer arbitration to Wolf) was we thought he would take it,” Colletti said

Hey CP!!! There isn’t a forum even close to as entertaining as ITD. As far as facebook, I mostly do it to keep in touch with family that doesn’t live here, old friends from high school and college, and, of course, some of the wonderful ITD people I have the pleasure of knowing and/or meeting. I do keep tabs on a few outside that circle, mostly my favorite NASCAR driver. He is very entertaining I must say,and he really does an amazing job of interacting with his fans. The academy is doing well, I am off for the week at school. So, I am trying to get some things done around the house, but not having much success. The family is doing good as well, and I will certainly tell Mariya you said Happy Birthday. She had a wonderful birthday thanks to Matthew and the rest of the Monson family. Thanks for asking 🙂

So, how is the business, your mom and the rest of your family?

  19. cpompe1

That’s good to hear Seesky! I’m just such a spoiled Southern California brat, that I couldn’t even think if LIVING in snowy country! And those inversions and smog-filled days are horrible. Actually, that’s why I live by the coast now! Now I only have to deal with “hot-for-Ventura” weather! Sometimes in the summer it creeps into the 90s and 100s, but that’s only for a few days out of the year. I can handle that! 🙂

  20. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

We get more 90 and 100 degree days here in summer than you do, then, cp. 90 degree days at that time of year are the norm.

  21. nellyjune

So, seesky, are you are alot like us in the central valley in that you have mountains all around you and get socked in with smog, fog and heat?

  22. cpompe1

Nelly – My business, well, it still hasn’t taken off yet. But I did talk to my friend from my hospital gig last week. He said he’s closer to opening up his business and, thus, then I’ll be earning some $. But it still hasn’t happened yet. My mom is fine. I think I told you, but she’s REALLY looking forward to ST! You realize that it’s some 4 1/2 weeks until we get to seek our Boys in Blue play??? Yeah!!! The rest of my family is fine; thx for asking. My son is STILL waiting to hear from the Border Patrol to see when his 2nd physical is going to be and when he’ll be reporting for training in NM. My hubby has been taking some antibiotics for the last week or so for a minor skin irritation (I hope it’s minor). The pharmacist told him to limit his skin exposure to sun while he’s taking it. Well, that’s kinda hard when you’re a mail carrier. So he’s been wearing long sleeve t-shirts under his postal shirt and wearing long pants, when he usually wears shorts. Especially lately it’s been a lot warmer down here and he’s just dying in this heat with all that he has to wear! Yuck!

  23. nellyjune

I got submission-errored again for the third time today 😦

I will do the short version then………………….

CP – That would be so hard to stay out of the sun if your job requires it. Hopefully, that is just a temporary thing for your husband. I will continue to pray for your business and your son’s job opportunity with the Border Patrol. I can’t wait for Dodger baseball to start. Michael is being practice and I saw my 10 year old nephew play baseball in West Covina on Monday. So, I am even more ready now since I have had a chance to see, smell and hear the fact that Dodger baseball is soon to be here as well 🙂

  24. cpompe1

I know what you mean Nelly! I have things I need to do before our trip. But fun things!!!

Well, I’ve gotta go. I’ll catch up with y’all later…

  25. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Damn redirects……You’ve described this area of Utah to a “T”, nelly. At times this winter, we’ve had some of the worst air quality in the country. If you want to escape the summer heat here, you go to someplace like Park City, the home base of the US Ski Team, where it’s usually about 10 degrees or so cooler…..from the posts of the last few days, you can tell how antsy we all are for ST to start. We all wish we had a better hand to play to start with but now is the time to watch it all play out, good, bad, or indifferent.

Did you know that there were three women that played with the men in the Negro League? Satchel helped one perfect her pitch. I talked about those ladies in my last two posts

One reason I’ll be glad when March 5 rolls around:

After the first date, a new score will be posted on the Dodgers’ page on ESPN, SI and Yahoo Sports’ websites. Everytime I see that score, echoes of the dodgerblues.com NLCS Game 5 recap headline dance jeeringly around my head: “10-4, Over and Out.”

Getting close to that hour, time to turn the page.

Andre said all the right things. I like the idea that he feels he has to prove himself if that is what it takes to keep him focused. He seems to take nothing for granted. I know we are looking for big things from Andre this season. It will be interesting to see how he handles all the expectations.

  29. Dodger4life

    Good afternoon everyone????.
    .
Nelly, I had a chance to read that article about Andre and yes he does continue to impress. In this particular incident? he does it with maturity: ( He isn?t making excuses?.he?s accepting a new challenge )
    .
“People can say, ‘We need this pitcher’ or ‘We need that bat.’ But to say we didn’t have enough talent to win the last two years is making excuses. We’ve got the talent to win with what we had. To be that close, one out or one game away — we just can’t lose the feeling and the emotion like we did. When things go wrong, you have to rebound and come back and play through the series instead of letting down.
    .
He does it with nobleness: ( He?s showing gratitude and support for his comrades )
    .
“I hope after this offseason, Manny comes back to where everyone knows he can be and help the team get back to where it can be. I want to see the Manny I’ve watched and followed and really love to be around. If this is Manny’s last year in L.A., I hope it’s a good one for him and for us and for the whole organization.”
    .
And we all know about his drive: ( He gives us 110 % everyday, )
    .
“My goal in Spring Training is to win a starting job. My drive is the same, like it is every year,” he said. “I don’t care what I did last year. I’ve got to prove it to everybody all over again, and I’ve prepared the same way I did before I signed. I’ll come in mentally thinking I have a lot to prove and to achieve. It’s not a situation where you can get complacent just because you had a good year or because you signed a two-year deal. That isn’t the right way — to come in knowing you have a job and all that. You have to keep proving yourself.”
    .
I enjoyed this article a whole lot better than anything I have read in a while. It has more substance than something that just sounds like a coined catch phrase! ( You know…Whatever! )
    .
I do agree that anything can happen given the opportunity, and that they have a really good makeup of guys?.and I understand the players saying that they don?t need another acquisition, to be successful? That?s a winning attitude!!!
    .
I do believe that Ned will keep pressure on them to perform ( may I remind you of the trade rumors floated around at the trade deadline, and the impact it appeared to have on the guys during the slump ) They managed to overcome that as well and win the division. Just as Andre has stated in the article. ?We can?t lose the feeling and emotion ? They need to fight through these battles as they did so many times last season.

As far as getting an Ace?..The best option is?? Bills and Kershaw hands down, there may be someone available at the deadline, that doesn?t cost us an arm and a leg?that can be an asset but the two above mention ballplayers are in the limelight. They will be the leadership for the talented arms we have in the minors, so?… There is no time like the present.!!!
    .
I Believe!!! I Love the Dodgers!!! This is Dodgerland!!!
    .
WE PLAY FOR PRIDE!!! WE FIGHT TO WIN!!! GO DODGERS!!!!

  30. nellyjune

Fabulous post Dodger4life!!! I couldn’t agree more. It’s refreshing to read an article about a player for a change as well. Not just the same old stuff from or about Ned and Frank.

lbirken – I think Andre is up for the challenge we are expecting out of him. However, something tells me unless he gets a WS ring, he won’t meet the challenge for himself. He’s too driven to expect anything less, and all we can hope for is that the rest of our beloved blue feels the same way and comes ready to meet that same challenge…………..to get a WS 2010 ring.
