Three more avoid arbitration

James Loney, Hong-Chih Kuo and George Sherrill have all avoided arbitration for 2010, leaving just three more guys to lock up – Andre Ethier, Jonathan Broxton and Russell Martin.

Today is the day when numbers get filed for each side, but it’s hardly the end of the process. We’re still very hopeful we can get those other three guys done soon…stay tuned.

As any of you who follow the game closely know, arbitration is a process you never want to go to with a player, so the work of Kim Ng and her staff in getting six of the nine guys done so far should be commended…and hopefully she and they will get the rest done soon!

UPDATE: Russell Martin also avoids arbitration and signs for 2010!

Good monring ITD!
Is weird, above It says zero comments but I look to the right and see that in recent comments that there have been three already.
.
From the Texas Summer Heat blog:
“Eli Greenspan of the Daily Dish reports that RSVP’s for tomorrows Ben Sheets throw around include ten teams with big hitters the Yankees and Phillies included.

In my earlier report today on Sheets, ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian was quoted as saying Sheets would land a one-year deal with plenty of incentives, and the club mentioned most is the Cubs, if the price and one-year deal is correct.

I believe that teams like the Brewers (Sheets’ old team where he still has plenty of friends he keeps up with), and the Rangers (who now employ Mike Maddux, his old pitching coach at Milwaukee) have a chance of landing him if they spring for a two-year deal worth the $10-12 million per year he is asking for. I still think he is the best starting pitcher on the market, if he can prove he is healthy. Sheets said of all the teams attending, “They’re going to like what they see.” ”

Mon Dieu!! We have been exterminated on the previous thread!!

Really Crash?………………..really? That is fabulous if true!!!!

First ITDFST (now 36 minutes), then submission error, then duplicate threads, and now censorship of comments!

Time Warp!

MLB is all copulated up!
I’m still waiting to hear the deal about Andre. That’s what really matters.

From Dodger Thoughts, Gurnick is reporting that Andre gets a $15.25 million guaranteed plus incentives [over two years]

Good news, Crash!

Yeah!!! :)))

I seemed to have slipped back to PST and can’t get back to ITDFST.

Nelly – Really! and this just in … Brox gets $11 Million over two years. About time that Frank started paying real money to folks who are not named Andruw, Juanpy, and Schmidt.

Looks like we’re only waiting on Ethier and Broxton and the rumor is they’re accepting.

Oldbrooklynfan – They are finished too, both with two year contracts, pending physicals.

Messagebear – it’s an average of 7.625 per year for Andre. It doubles what he made last year and then some. However, the article that Dylan wrote said they were buying out 2 of his three years of arbitration, but I believe he only has two years left until he reaches free agency. He and Russell were both Super Twos. I am glad it didn’t go longer than two. I have been listening/reading what all of you have been saying about long-term contracts with the young players, and I think Andre (and whoever is working with him) did a good job to get the happy medium with two years, and if he does well in those two years, then he will be ready for an even bigger payday, either with or without the Dodgers.

Great news on all the signings…………

Mas Tequila saves the day!!!!

How do you guys feel about Andre’s deal, especially nelly and trublu, since you two have been following him most closely for quite a while. For my part, I think that’s a legitimate deal for his length of service, and I’d actually give a Well Done for Ng and whoever was directly involved.

With what we now have as core players locked away for 2010, I’m pretty much willing to go into the season. I’d like to get a Padilla or maybe even Sheets, if it can be done for a single year, and beyond that let’s see what our remaining youngsters can do. Longer range, I still think that the McCraps are the wrong owners, but it’ll be up to the courts to sort that out now.

Can’t wait for Spring Training to start!

I am back in PST again. I think ITD is it’s own version of the show LOST. I have no idea what time zone I am going to end up in these days.

Bear ~ I think Andre’s deal is pretty fair. More important, to me, it proves that they meant it when they said they wanted to keep the “core” together. I agree, another pitcher (not the likes of Russ Ortiz) is imperative.

See……….within a matter of 5 minutes I have been in the PST zone and the ITDFST zone.

Wouldn’t it be nice if mlb fixed this problem before the season starts? Of course, I don’t expect them to do anything about it.

Anyone notice on Dodger Thoughts that the projected payroll this season is $91+ mil? $15+ of that is paying players no longer with the team including Schmidt, Cow and Nomore. And we’ll be doing the same with Manny after this season.

That’s rediculous. Its even more rediculous Ned still has his job let alone an extension.

Enchanted ~ I wonder if “extension” is considered an obscene word? :)

Tim Lincecum has asked for $13M in arbitration….Giants offered him $8…Hmmm.

Well, here are some signings we can all get behind.
*
Emma, what did you find out about your roof!

I was just checking to see what time zone I am in :)

So, Timmy wanted more than what they offered? That should be an interesting development for the gnats. Their fans aren’t too happy with the way they are throwing money away on pvls either. We are a tad better in that at least we aren’t signing the pvls to 2-year contracts………………yet.

ITDFST is about 32/33 minutes ahead of PST.

red pen – I meant to write 38/39 minutes ahead.

Nellyjune ~ the fans love Timmy and, will be ticked off if he doesn’t get pretty close to what he wants. It should be interesting to see what happens.

I know………………..many think he should have gotten the 20 mil, as reported by the media.

I just read that too, Nellyjune. The Giants are kind of in a fix because Timmy just wants to do a year-at-a-time contract. The Giants want to sign him to a multi-year deal. It could cost them plenty going year-to-year so they may consider trading him. I don’t buy that, do you?

Well, Bill is saying that some are concerned about his health, his body (sick alot and doesn’t like hot weather) and his arm (overuse), and that Tim isn’t as big of a deal like he used to be. Panda is becoming more of the face of the gnats these days.

I feel the same way. I’ve always thought he was sickly. A lot of folks on ESPN think his arm motion will cause him many problems.

My guess is Timmy will get his 13 mill. If the Gnats had any sense, they’d do what Seattle did with King Felix and make it worth Timmy’s while to sign a multi-year deal. No way do they trade him. Franchise impact pitchers are too hard to come by. We should know.Very good news on signing all of our potential arbitration eligibles. Hopefully, at the end of two years, another management team will be negotiating our core players’ next Dodger deals. The signings, in particular, make our bullpen look solid for this season. Now all we need is some starting pitching to go with it. MLBTV had a report on Sheet’s audition and, by all accounts, he looked good. With a one-year deal laden with incentives, he might be worth a shot. Piniero and Padilla are good possibilities. If the price is right, I’d even take a shot on Garland. Let’s face it, nobody left out there is going to resemble an impact starter. The best we can hope for is decent.

Hey Sky, how ya doin?

Nells – don’t forget that Ned signed Carroll Burnett for 2 years.

I’m really happy for Andre. I think it’s a fair deal and it supposedly has incentives built in, so he can potentially make even more. I was worried they were going to put him through the same crap as last year, so it’s good to see they didn’t. I can’t wait for spring training to start.

Not bad, e. So, are you Californians readying your arks after all the fornicating rain? We here in Utah are just glad to be able to see the mountains after experiencing some of the country’s worst air quality the past couple of weeks. A lot of folks here call it “haze”. They have problems with the “s-word”.

Hope Carroll doesn’t tug his ear while standing on second base. Opposing teams might think he’s stealing signs.

That is very true enchanted, very true indeed.

bluecrewgirl – so very good for him and us :)

Seesky – we had a pretty good thunder and lightening show tonight, along with a drenching downpour or two throughout the day (or three), and our worst rain day is expected tomorrow with more thunder and lightening. I live across from a creek that seems to be doing okay so far.

Just been raining so far Sky, but we didn’t miss snow by much last night. Not so sure we’ll be that lucky tonight though.

And BCG, it isn’t cra* anymore, its kakadoodle. We’re trying to run a PG blog here. :)

BTW, where in the purgatory has jhall run off to again?

LMTO!!!!!! I guess we can’t use the A anymore either.

It’s hit the rack in MST. Sleep tight, ITD, and don’t let the gnat bugs bite.

A substitution of behind or derriere will now now suffice. LMnorthendofasouthboundhorseO would also be acceptible EXCEPT if used in derogatory terms towards the equine (i.e. in comparisons to the front office or ownership.)

Good night Sky.

Just advise him to use dashes so that we can isolate the transitory verb substitutionary phrase.

(I hope all of you are taking this down… there’s a quiz later.)

Yipes, I’ve been time warped!!!

Good Night Seesky!!!

LMDO!!!! We definitely need a ITD Terminology Book – LMDO!!!!!

LOL is still permitted provided you’re LOL WITH someone and not AT someone.

LMNorthendofsouthboundhorseO works well……………if you were having problems remembering the acronym, all you have to remember is the L, and then the next three letters in the alphabet :))

Well guano, I seem to be stuck in real time now. Guess I’ll call it a night. Toodles everyone.

OMG is to be replaced by OMnondenominationaldiety. (Agnostics and athiests can feel free to substitute Nietzsche.)

And of course WTF is now WTconsentingadultscoupling.

So, does that mean Jhall has to say…………… UNCONSENTINGADULTSCOUPLINGBELIEVEABLE!!!! ?

Yes.

Better send him a memo.

However, using the -un before consenting would suggest that the adults did not consent to the coupling.

Enchanted, excuse my ignorance, but what does PG stand for?

Bluecrewgirl ~ Well, in movie terms it mean Parental Guidance, but I am not sure what it means in Enchanted terms. That can bring a whole new meaning to PG.

BCG – PG in our case now means Proper Grammar.

Here, I was thinking Poop Guard.

enchanted – I didn’t realize last night you were being time warped back into the PST zone.

LOL!!!!

Oh I was stuck baby!!!

Good morning ITD!
Very wet day in the L.A. area.
.
Knouff,
The leak is in the living room downstairs and is coming from a crack in the balcony. We put a tarp in the balcony and a bucket in the living room until this rain stop so the association can fix it. Thanks for asking!
.
So happy our boys all signed up! Just came out of a meeting, I have not heard the specifics on our gentle big boy Jonathan.

Dang it, its snowing like an illegitimate child here now.

Oh no, not like an illegitimate child! I heard word from home we have no power.

Andre’s salary breakdown…………….

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Outfielder Andre Ethier has agreed to a $15.25 million, two-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ethier gets a $500,000 signing bonus and salaries of $5.5 million this year and $9.25 million in 2011.

Joel Pineiro has signed with the Angels. He didn’t exactly come up big in Game 3 vs. Dodgers in St. Louis last Fall. Prefer Garland or Padilla. Geez, just saying that speaks volumes for this off-season. Son of a female dog…………..

Son of a female dog…..The way Ned has been pushing the puppy all winter….you would think we would get a better pick of the litter.

LMDO, Dodger4life!

Then again maybe…..Padilla was his pick of the litter along???

Hello gang!! How’ve ya’ll been?!!! I guess Ned is a litter bug. He has strewn the Dodger road with trash (read; Schmidt, Bombko, etc…). By the way, what’s up with the metaphors for good old f*cking curse words? Un-coitus-believable!!!

Kind of takes the claw out of the Bear, as we know him!!!

Hey D4, Ned has been too busy pulling the old puppy. That’s why we aren’t getting the pick of the litter. Probably because Jamie was painting the town!!!

Overall, we are not in bad shape. We’re still the team to beat in the NL West. Barring a miracle, we’re not a World Series Champion team yet. If Kersh and Billz continue to develope and become the second coming of Koufax and Drysdale or Hershisher and Belcher; we’ve got a shot!!!

Goodnight and Excelsior True Believers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey jhall…. How have ya been my friend???

Good Night jhall…Excelsior True Believers!!!!
.
Good to see ya around…..

Great news if you sat in the 198 seat VIP section last season. Your experience has become less expensive this year….Instead of $90…they have been reduced to $42 and $47 respectively. No sun tan lotion though….probably not a big problem seeing how you are in Arizona, good chance you have your own……No cool scented towel though, also probably not a problem since you are in Arizona and your accommodations provided you with one, good chance before the end of the day, it has that cool scent of your favorite sun tan lotion as well….. No preferred parking though, also probably not a problem since the cost of parking has been shifted to those whose ticket prices increased this spring…..and with the money you saved you can take a shuttle or peddle bike…..I would suggest the peddle bike since you are in a great mood after getting into the parking lot in a reasonable amount of time….You probably enjoy this better than the preferred parking anyway’s.
.
Good news if you are’nt considered a family…..seeing as unless you have three people you are considered a couple….You saved a buck!!! That is always good news!!!
.
Not so good news if you are a family, your expeirence is now at least a buck more…..and seeing how this is a family site, I just thought you should be informed.

Enjoy the game folks!!!! Go Dodgers!!!!

I saw that they no longer have that special section at Camelback. Believe it or not, the wet towels were a godsend during the games. It was so hot!!! The ushers kept handing us bottled water as well. When you sit hear the front, there is no shade. It is just like the Sunday day games at Dodger Stadium.
I have a feeling that the Dodgers will sign Vicente Padilla. He did well and I think that some teams are staying clear of him because of his history. He got along well with the other players. I met him at one of the games and he seemed like a nice guy. He took time to sign autographs and seemed pleased when I told him he was doing a great job. He certainly signed more than O Dog who never signed an autograph.
Everything will be okay by opening day, I’m sure.
http://catlovesthedodgers.mlblogs.com

Thanks for the update on ticket prices Dodger4life.

I don’t think Jhall got the memo about our language issue :)

Good Morning ITDland ~ I agree with Jhall’s comments last night…….I miss Bear’s “Claw”…………..I think some of Enchanted’s “Enchantment” is lost. I liked us much better crude rude and nasty :)

Good morning to all.
.
Funny you posted that D4, as yesterday I actually had a thought of trying to go to ST.
.
But when I was looking at the prices and saw that for a non grass seat it was going to cost between $26 — $47 (Which doesn’t include all the service charges, printing charges, & we want more $$$ from you charge so were going to charge you more from the ticket company charge). Compared to $23 — $29 for the Angels. Also I looked at most other teams and they charge around the $23-$30 range as well.
.
I was thinking that I could afford to fly there. But then based on the hotel room and $70.00 for the 2 of us per game to watch the big league players play roughly 3-4 innings I got 2nd thoughts. So if we went there we would want to see as many games as possible since were flying there. I figured based on the days we were there we could see 4-5 games. $350.00. Not including all the food at the games. Throw in food for the days we are there & eating out and it started to get upwards of 2G. $350.00 games, $450.00 for airfare, $750.00 for hotel, plus car rental, plus food. That’s just for 2. That really adds up. I can’t imagine a family of 4.
.
I can’t justify that to the Wife for ST in Arizona. It used to be an inexpensive alternative but I guess if there is a buck to be squezzed out of the public it will be done. I just don’t have the lemons…

I have to admit, it is kind of fun trying to figure out the bad word based on their cleaver clues.

Nellyjune ~ it sure is fun trying to figure the cleaver clues out. I’m still a little irked that we got chewed out in the first place.
.
Collie ~ After what you just posted, I’d much rather save my money for games that actually count. As a matter of fact, I have to start saving now to afford games come regular season.

Poor jhall didn’t get the memorandum…

Back a couple threads we’ve a moratorium on cursing and a mandate to make the blog PG rated.

It is very expensive to go to ST especially if you fly. The main cost is the lodging. The average price if you stay fairly close to Camelback is about $200 a night for one. The high cost is not in the game ticket. However, it is great fun and was worth it to me.
http://catlovesthedodgers.mlblogs.com

“Based on fan feedback, we determined that premium seating in spring training wasn’t necessary,” Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch said Wednesday.

Really? It took fan feedback for you guys to realize that? $90 a ducket for games that don’t mean a thing and you needed fans to scream and yell at you to figure that out? Sometimes I really wonder about the people in the front office…

Vicente I can live with.
Have seen it reported that we’ve signed Padilla to a one year contract for $4 million. I like him a lot better than Looper and Garland, which were the other considerations. We seem to have a lot of people to look at for the #5 starter, and it’s time we sorted through those options to see what might work.

If Brox would ever learn to back people off the plate, he’d be totally unhittable.

I’m OK with Padilla too Bear – much better option than Looper, and at least on a par with if not slightly better than Garland, though Garland I think would eat-up more innings.

To get anywhere though, Billz is going to have to get some nads and Kersh will have to keep developing rapidly. Going to need another starter though – I just don’t think Kuroda’s capable of going a full year without getting hurt.

I think Padilla is a good signing. Like I said before, we can use somebody that will back people off the plate.

Good morning ITD!
I also like the Padilla signing. No hitters messing with Padilla. also, have I heard anything about Belisario?
.
For Spring Training games, I went with friends so we split the cost of rental car and hotel. I even had points for a free night but I did get those speeding tickets in the mail…
boy is raining very hard here in Chatsworth
Emma
http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/

The Padilla signing is a good one, but yes, it will only get better if our other three (Billz, Kersh and Kuroda) BRING IT this season.

On the Spring Training tickets, etc. As far as expenses, going there as a single person, whether you are with friends or not, is completely different than going as a couple or a family of three, four and/or more. Thank you Collie and Cat for your insight into the expenses. I would just rather save the money and spend it for the real games that count, whether they are at Dodger Stadium or the Phone Booth. One day when I am retired, and no kids to get through their teenage/college life, I will be able to do both. Cat – I know how much you love going, and I look forward to reading your updates when you do go.

I hope that this year’s Spring Training, I get to meet Bob Feller. My friend Deb who is an Indian fan, took her dad there last year. Her dad shared stories when he used to watch him pitch. I met Deb in Vero Beach a few years back and everytime she and her husband come to L.A. she lets me know or when she goes to Spring Training. We ended up as partners during the last Women Baseball clinic at Vero. I love all the friends I have made because of Baseball.
.
Sometimes the best time at Spring Training is where there is no game and you could just chat with the guys and watch them practice. I have a friend that works for the General hospital in L.A. who said he ran into Sandy Koufax and he just chatted with him for a while. This is was back in 2004.
.
If you can and you can afford it, I highly recomend Spring Training. Lore and I will catch the Dodgers at the Indian facility and at the Giant facility beside the games at Camelback. It is a little easier on us since is a 5 hour drive.
Emma
http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/

Very good Kahli and Bear! It does put us in a sticky situation as to know what is acceptable and what is not.

Padilla is a good signing…..if he is, indeed, the #4 starter. But many ITD humans feel antsy about Kuroda’s health; count me in that group, as well. So if Padilla slides into the 3 hole (is that too pornographic for this site???) then the rotation is hurting. Would still like to see the Dodgers re-sign Weaver. He did everything the Dodgers asked of him last season…and he has the spheres when needed for tight situations. Billingsley should talk to Weaver about acquiring some spheres…

I think that mentioning the possibility of Padilla sliding into the #3 hole is quite permissible as long as you don’t mention Jamie in the same sentence.

Sign my boy Weaver.
