Holiday spirits…

I know that many of us who are fortunate enough to work for the Dodgers spend a lot of time thinking about how lucky we are to work for an organization of this stature, but there are certain days that are just better than others.

Most days, as I pull into the parking lot, I try to remember what an amazing job I have. But much like all of you, there’s also an office culture and office life and with that, comes an office holiday party. Ours starts in about 30 minutes when the offices will close for the afternoon and the games begin. There’s lunch in the Dugout Club, a softball tournament down on the field, some sort of Olympic games (not sure what it will entail) and then dinner before we head home. Office camaraderie is important anywhere you work, even more so when you log the kind of hours that are required of these sorts of jobs.

I certainly don’t write this to brag…just to give a little insight into a great day like this for the organization. We get hammered plenty publicly but it’s days like this that it’s hard to deny how fortunate we are to be associated with the Los Angeles Dodgers…there are very few teams in baseball that can say they’ve been in the playoffs four out of the last six years and three out of the last four, not to mention back-to-back NLCS for the first time in three decades. I’ve worked with a lot of people through the 90s and early 2000s who spent a lot of years here and never got to witness the sort of success we’ve had on the field in recent years. We still have the ultimate goal in mind – a World Series – but we also have to know that only one team can win it each year and hopefully our time is coming soon. And off the field, I think we all know that there are several million people who would trade jobs with us in a heartbeat. I’m just hoping I don’t pull any muscles in advance of tomorrow night’s front office basketball tournament…yet another cool thing organized by the accounting department.

Anyway, changing subjects, one more cool thing happened today…Camelback Ranch won an award from Ballpark Digest and I’d imagine that any of you who got to visit understand why. Those who didn’t should start making their plans now because it really is a very cool experience.

Josh – I wouldn’t trade jobs with you. I can only imagine what you go through in a day. However, I would love to work for the Dodgers in any capacity someday. That would be a dream come true (even if for a day). Maybe even your job for a day 🙂 Have a great time at your celebrations.

Have a wonderful time Josh and also all the people that make our experiense at the ballpark great! I miss you all! I was at the ballpark last Sunday when my friends LTD23, Erik, my bro Vic and I met at Barragans for breakfast then we headed to the field level gift shoft and then went inside the stadium. It was raining but it was great to see my friends that share the same love for the Dodgers as I do.
Great bargains still at the gift shop
We started talking about our plans for Spring Training and also to go to Fenway Park. We need info on Fenway Park Josh!

I would also give anything to work at Dodger Stadium, as Nellyjune said, even if for just one day! I’d like to apply for batgirl (I should probably say batoldlady). Shagging foul balls would be fun too.

JOSH – I’m glad you are loving your job and I hope you are having a wonderful time. And congratulations on CamelBack Ranch….beautiful place that maybe someday…I mean SOMEDAY I will get the privilege to visit the place.
I’m thankful for the job I have (I still have). Eventhough we just got the news that we are closing down for the week between the holidays…NOT GOOD! It has been a tough month. And this morning was not the best. But trying to make the best of it. It is also my sons birthday!

NELLY, EMMA….miss y’all. I haven’t been around much, here on ITD but I need my BLUES.

  5. crzblue2

Hey Rose! Happy birthday to your son! I miss you too!
We close for a week every year so this year the last day is 12/23 but a few of us will be on call since we work in IT.
Is a lot of fun to run into so many people from L.A. at Camelback Ranch. Heck even in Vero Beach, I used to run into a lot of people from L.A. that I know during Spring Training. One time at Vero Beach, I had these guys asked me “Hey, haven’t I seen you at Dodger Stadium.” Dodger fans are everywhere!

Hey Emma…yeah several offices close during that week and I’m not used to it. Well once, but I was younger, single, no kids & still living with my parents so I was able to afford it. Now I have insurances, mortgage, husband, 2 kids and one on the way…..stress is not good. I need a fix of Dodger blue to cheer me up. Could of been worst and I am just grateful I still have my job, fam, house, etc. etc. We were planning a trip to Camel back this March, but no can do now. SOMEDAY!

  7. nellyjune

..and some thought with JP gone there wouldn’t be any material – hahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Good to see you too Rose 🙂

phan, I have to admit, I’ve been reading the Phillies blog to get all the phans’ take on the Halladay/Lee thing. You should have told us you guys were moving Lee. We’d have given you a couple limo drivers for him. Not much else, though…nothing left to give.

enchanted, these are the times that try men’s souls…or something like that. Can only climb on Santa’s knee and wish for MartinLoneyKempEthierBillingsleyKershawBroxton to light their noses and deliver us Christmas cheer come October.

  9. messagebear@msn.com

The dumpster diver got us a couple of stiffs by the name of Carroll and Ayala. It never fails – just the veterans we need.

    SELL THE TEAM!!!

  10. Dodger4life

The agent says Caroll and Blake will share the position…..
    .
I am assuming we all know what Torre will say…..
    .
So why not just say it now. Your new second baseman is Jamie Carroll

  11. kpookiemon

The problem with dumpster diving is that there are usually two very different kinds of dumpsters. One for trash, the other for recyclables. Now, a keen GM….mind you, a VERY keen GM…can always tell them apart. Last season Jeff Weaver was recyclable, but Eric Milton turned out to be trash. Now in fairness to Milton, he was injured. Again, we come back to that “keen” part of the GM…the gifted, mysterious talent which deciphers and sorts the myriad “used” items from the “useless” broken rubble.

  12. jhallwally

Hi’Ya D4, doing well my friend, how about you? Always good to see you!!!

LOL Trumom!!! It is if Frank, Ned, and Jamie are piloting the sleigh!!!

  13. Dodger4life

I cant complain jhall, looking foward to seeing the Buckeyes and Ducks play…..Christmas and New Years…..and lets not forget Spring!!!

  14. jhallwally

Unfortunately Trumom, it is in the back seat of a Limo between Jamie’s legs!!!!

Me too D4, should be a good game!!!

  15. jhallwally

Jamie’s little roll in the dough probably set the Dodger franchise back a few years. For a few minutes of pleasure!!!! Unbelievable!!!

  16. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

LOL, nelly!!!!Good luck to JP with his new team.We might need good luck more than he does. Considering that we practically paid the White Sox to take him, we can only hope we got some reasonably decent pitching prospects in return. Considering Ned’s track record….. The Phillies made a steal of a deal, the likes of which our management can only dream of. They traded a pitcher that they were unlikely to resign and a few prospects for, arguably, the best pitcher in baseball and the Mariners’ top pitching prospect. Additionally, they didn’t have to outbid the Yankees, Red Sox, etc. to retain him. Interesting note on the previous thread concerning the Dennis Gilbert rumor re: a possible purchase of the D’s. There must have been a reason why he didn’t get the Rangers. Food for thought.

  17. nellyjune

I will do that, and Beav always needs to be talked to about something. You know him…………always getting into mischief and all.

  18. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Thanks, guys!!! I see that ITD Late Night is in full swing and ITDFST hasn’t reared it’s ugly head.

  19. enchantedbeaver

There once was an owner named Frank,
Who laughed all the way to the bank.
    Til one day he seen,
    where the doughboy had been,
And found out he’d married a skank.

    How’s that for perspective?

  20. nellyjune

I was looking through the thread from the time I left school, and I noticed we had a visit from jungar. That was a very pleasant surprise.

  21. thinkingblue

ENCHANTED….great POEM! Yeah nothing like reading some funny Blues to get me going in the morning.

Hope every will have a wonderful day….I mean HAVE A WONDERFUL DRE!

  22. nellyjune

Dodger4life – that article will go over well around here. I am especially curious about the last part.

    ……………………………..
The Reds are asking for one or two players on the Dodgers’ major league roster in return.
    ……………………………..
One or two? Why do we always seem to have to give up so much to get so little in return?

    and then there is this………………….

    ……………………………………………..
The Dodgers would want the Reds to pay for a portion of the $15 million Harang would be guaranteed if he is traded.

Harang is owed $12.5 million in 2010 and has a $12.75-million club option for 2011 with a $2-million buyout. If Harang is traded, the option would become a mutual option worth $14 million and the price of the buyout would increase to $2.5 million.

    — Dylan Hernandez
    …………………………………………….
Like that is going to happen.

I was watching mlbtv this morning again, and once again, when it comes to talking about the Dodgers, it’s all about our financial situation and the divorce. Everyone else is on there talking about how strong their teams are, who needs who, and all that is talked about when it’s our turn……………this crap. It’s extremely frustrating knowing we can be in a much better position right now if we had owners who gived a damn.

  23. trublu4ever

Can you just imagine Harang and Wang both on our team…..E anc Crew would have field-day expressing themselves.
    .
I agree with Nellyjune ~ we cannot afford to give up any of our current players for a washed up pitcher!

  24. trublu4ever

Smoltz could actually be good for the Kersh and Billz, kind of like Maddux was, Enchanted. I’d rather have him than Harang.

  25. enchantedbeaver

Ned isn’t dumpster diving, he’s in the dairy manure pile with all the heffers. “I know there’s a pony in here somewhere” he was heard muttering as he went in headfirst.

  26. Dodger4life

Maybe Frank will say No to the Harang-n Wang and instruct Ned to hang on to his Chin-Lu and give him a good Smoltz instead.

  27. Dodger4life

I seen that nelly…..I am glad for (monkeywhiskers), I see we haven’t added the (Harangatang) yet though…..I was looking at cots contracts from previous seasons and they didn’t sign any arbitration guys until Febuary, if that is an indication.

  28. nedajerk

Well is Luis Maza he would kick *** int he minor. I don’t want Carroll. He does have a nice career baa and obp. I’d rather have Marlon Anderson back. RIP Chris Henry dang had to see any sport athletic pass away so young.

  29. nedajerk

I’m surprise that article didn’t see bring back former player Berroa who played for us in 2008 and acquired him from KC.

  30. crzblue2

    Rosie,
Congratulations on the bundle of joy on the way! Cheer up, things will get better. Como decia mi abuelita “Dios aprieta pero no ahorca.”.
    .
I am so happy that Tony Jackson will be back covering the Dodgers! Maybe this is old news to some of you, but I recently found out. You can find him at ESPNLosAngeles.com, but the site doesn’t launch until Monday.
    Emma

  31. enchantedbeaver

I actually like Monkeywhiskers being back. At least maybe he’ll get the bulk of the PH opportunities and they won’t go to Carroll Channing.

I’d say Berroa pretty much spells the end of Hu’s chance of making the club.

  32. sparkleplenty_1

Hi all. It’s been wonderful to be able to open up our toy box here and see/read all the humorous comments. You make me laugh.
    .
However, on a more serious subject, those of you who met me at the ITD tour also met my friend, Dave. He was recently diagnosed with having anal cancer and started chemo and radiation therapy this week. The chemo has affected his heart in some way and as I am relating this news, he’s in the hospital being poked, examined, and poked some more. They want to keep him overnight at the very least.
    .
It would be so appreciated if my friends here would be praying and putting up good thoughts for Dave. Many many thanks – and a big group hug to all of you.

  33. Dodger4life

Go Bucks!!! Not much, just left the girls they should be out in a bit….Just trying to shake a cold, you know these Cali winters…LOL!!!

  34. nellyjune

Good Evening Jhall!!!!! How are you doing this fine evening…..well, early, early morning for you:)) ?

Sparkleplenty – Sorry to hear/read about Dave. Prayers and hugs go out you the both of you.

Hey Dodger4life – These California winters are brutal – brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! LOL!!!!

  35. Dodger4life

Hi Nelly…..Yes they can be….I shouldn’t of been running around barefoot during the last cold snap. live and learn.

  36. Dodger4life

Only seems fair…..Ward sure is a good father getting himself so involved in the boys and their extra curricular activities.

  37. Dodger4life

jhall did say Go Bucks!!! I was assuming he was reffering to Ohio State however he may of just been in a little bit of a rut.

  38. jhallwally

Hi’Ya D4!!! The word is “Go Bucks!!” Just getting ready for Christmas, the Rose Bowl, and the impending cold of January and February!!! Thanks for asking. What’s shaking where you live?

Carol Channing – Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend

NEDDY IS A VET’S BEST FRIEND
    .
A rook in the fold may be quite instrumental
But Neddy is a vet?s best friend.
A kid may be grand but be too detrimental
He could stumble flat, or miss a sign in his at bat…
Kids go cold are brash and bold
And lose their charm in arbitration
But round cut or pear shaped
    His deals leave us agape…
Neddy is a vet?s best friend.
    .
There may be a time when they get a sore shoulder
But Neddy is a vet?s best friend.
There may come a time when ol? Neddy?s employer
    Sinks to an awful vice
But sign guys twice is oh so nice…
Vets be prized when they fly high
But with Ned?s they never ascend
Frank buys him some houses for unfaithful spouses…
But Neddy is a vet?s best friend.
    .
With Jamie and Ned it is always platonic
Cuz Neddy is a vet?s best friend.
We hear some big names, but its all quite ironic
Cheaper the vets that Ned gets from the Mets
Time?s rolled on, their youth is gone
And they can?t straighten up when they bend
But stiff back or stiff knees
Give him more if you please
    .
    Neddy
    Neddy
    (Don?t need Berroa)
    But Neddy
    Is a vet?s best friend.

Didn’t see y’all time warping me up there. Hey D4 & Nells!!!

Little chilly up here this evening, but no snow in the immediate forecast. Just need my customers to pay me and get somemore clientele and jobs coming in and I’ll be a regular happy camper.

  41. jhallwally

I vote no on the alleged Harang deal!!! If the Reds want to dump his salary, they don’t need to get any of our major league players. We’ll take him for a low minor leaguer and you eat most of his salary!!!

  42. Dodger4life

Good to see ya enchanted…..I kept picturing Carroll in a blond wig and lipstick after your comment, remarkable resemblense…I must say, even without the big black rimmed glasses…LOL!!!!!

  43. nellyjune

Jhall – We are supposed to be adding to what we have, not subtracting, and depending on who we would have to give up, it doesn’t sound like it would benefit us.

Good Friday Morning ITDland ~ Awesome songs Enchanted. I love it when I have a good laugh to start my mornings……makes the rest of the day seem like it’s going to be just fine.

Great to see Ned “land” Jamey Carroll. WOW!!! Gimme a “P”, gimme a “V”, gimme a “L”…

All articles referring to the “financially strapped” Dodgers.

Am I missing something here? 3 million plus fans every year, tickets, parking and concessions raised every year, #99 jerseys selling like hotcakes (at least for a little bit) and yet the second largest market in the country is “financially strapped”?

    I call Bullsh1t.

  57. messagebear@msn.com

I’ve copied the above 2010 earnings projections from Jon Weisman’s site. Anybody else see what’s so obviously ludicrous about the arbitration process, if Weisman turns out to be correct about what we can expect our young guys to be earning as a result of their success or lack of it, as the case may be.

  58. messagebear@msn.com

From what I’ve seen of Ely’s AA stats, he shows good promise; I don’t know anything about Link. I don’t even want Ned to try to trade for Harang. As always, he’d only give up too much, and Harang has been sliding downhill fast.

I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog
that’s both equally educative and engaging, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something which too few men and women are speaking intelligently about.
Now i’m very happy I stumbled across this in my search for something
    regarding this.
