A little postseason history lesson
After qualifying for the playoffs, the Dodgers are still aiming to capture consecutive National League West titles for the first since 1977 and 1978. Tommy Lasorda and Joe Torre are the only two managers to lead Los Angeles to the playoffs in their first two seasons piloting the Dodgers. Lasorda and Gabby Street (1930-31 Cardinals) are the only N.L. managers to win pennants in their first two seasons as manager.
This is also the first time the Dodgers have reached the playoffs four times in a six-year span since the Brooklyn Dodgers reached the World Series four times in a five-year span from 1952-56. The “playoff” losses in 1946, 1951, 1962 and 1980 are considered part of the regular season as tiebreakers, thus don’t count as a postseason appearance.
The only Brooklyn manager to come close to reaching the playoffs in his first two full seasons was Burt Shotton, who replaced Leo Durocher during the 1948 season and finished in third place. In 1949, Shotton’s Dodgers won the 1949 National League pennant and nearly repeated in 1950, missing a chance to force a playoff with the Phillies by losing at home against Philadelphia on the final day of the regular season.
Brooklyn’s Ned Hanlon won consecutive N.L. pennants in his first two seasons as Dodger manager in 1899 and 1900, but the World Series didn’t begin until 1903.

Mark,
Great history! More to celebrate! Will you be in San Diego? If so, see you there! I can feel it! We will clinch there!
Go Dodgers

Good morning ITDers!
You know I don’t think we have any rookies for rooky hazing. All our babys are all grown up.

Why does this subject bother me?
Off to San Diego I go. I meet my friend who is at a seminar until noon here in the L.A. area.
.
Everyone have a great Tuesday!
Let’s Go Dodgers!

GO DODGERS!!!!!!
.
From the previous thread…..I agree, Nellyjune about a current player on the list 🙂
I personally enjoy most of the tongue in cheek stuff that Simers writes. He certainly holds no reverence for the owner, management and even certain players on the team. My feelings for the same are way more extreme that Simer’s.
Nonetheless, let’s finally root the Dodgers to the pennant.
If I had my druthers, I wish they had finished as strong as they started this season, but then ultimately it is about October, so let’s hope they can pull it together for the playoffs.
Last Play: N. Punto popped bunted into double play pitcher to third, A. Casilla out at home
Wow at the Twins and they 2 games back against the Tigers. I think they must’ve seen our game of bad base running.
– A. Casilla doubled to deep left
– M. Tolbert sacrificed to pitcher, A. Casilla to third
– N. Punto popped bunted into double play pitcher to third, A. Casilla out at home
Too gosh damn funny.
Anyone see what the Angels did after they celebration? They all gone to RF and tapped the Adenhart banner and the players took a pictures.
bear, I agree. Simers used to bug me, but he’s the one columnist now that doesn’t kiss up. I also agree that it’s time to root these guys on, otherwise I’ll end up in a straight jacket trying to figure out Joe Torre’s lineups.
,
,
BTW, this crap about 4 straight playoff appearances cannot be compared to the old single and double division days when it was much harder to make the playoffs as either the only NL rep or one of 2 division winners. Apples and oranges baby.
,
,
Come on Dodgers!! I’m going to the first home game of the NLDS and I want it to be Game 1!!!
MARK – Great History Lesson….and I hope tonight we make more great history.
*
All those attending tonights game….HAVE FUN & CHEER LOUD FOR OUR BOYS.
*
LET’S GO DODGERS!
I will be in fourth row section 116 behind 3rd base.
Cheering on the boys in blue.
Where are you sitting at crzblue2?
I’m off to San Diego, as well….only the second game I will have attended this year–the other being the ITD Tour. TV has made me a VERY lazy fan!
Make sure you wave as you pass Temecula, kahli!
Lineup from Dodgers Twitter:
.
Furcal SS
Hudson 2B
Ethier RF
Ramirez LF
Kemp CF
Loney 1B
Martin C
Castro 3B
Billingsley P
.
We almost have a real lineup here. Blake and Belliard must have some real injuries. Hopefully this can get the job done. Bills is going up against a rookie out of the bullpen. Joe needs to watch Bills carefully as he enters the sixth inning. Don’t allow him to implode. We need this one not only for the division, but for home field advantage.
No problem, Tru. Let’s go Blue!!!! Git ‘er done!!!!
No problem, Tru. Let’s go Blue!!!! Git ‘er done!!!!
Oops. Sorry for the double post. Currently experiencing submission issues. Time warping also. My first post came in 20 minutes into the future, while my double post came in right on time. Time stamp: 4:17 pm
Hey Carcyn, maybe I’ll see your Kcal 9.
Thanks for the lineup, Crash.
I still would give Dewitt another start and he did do a very good job for us last year before he gotten in that little slump and had to platoon with him and LaRoche before Blake came here.
The Dodgers are looking for their 11th division title (excluding the strike-shortened season of 1981) and third this decade, needing a win or Rockies loss to clinch the NL West. If they win the division, Joe Torre will earn his 13th division title as manager (1 with the Braves, 10 with the Yankees, and this would be his second with the Dodgers), the second-most division crowns won by any manager since divisional play began in 1969. Only Bobby Cox (15 division titles) has more.
ESPN Stats and Information
I heard the Reds got screwed in 1981 thanks god they did lol
Billingsley, who allowed three runs in six innings, is 0-4 with a 5.45 ERA in his last six starts and has not won since Aug. 18.
Facing the Padres should give him a good chance to end that streak. He has gone 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA in four starts against San Diego this season.
While the Dodgers are looking to get healthy before the playoffs, San Diego (72-85) tries to close out a mostly strong second half of the season. The Padres are 15-9 this month and 34-23 since July 28.
Well said, Bear!
Cincinatti helping us out 3-0 over St Louis in the 2nd.
Good Early Evening ITD, Dodger Faithful and Our Beloved Boy’s in Blue……….
.
Here is my Rah, Rah, Rah for Billz and the Boy’s tonight!
.
Champagne celebration aside…..We can use a win tonight for several good reasons…….First to get Billz back to the happy side of the game….secondly as Bowa say’s… Home field advantage is big. Third and foremost we need a hot team, some positive energy and a strong finish to this season.
.
I’ve been running a dry test ( these last two games) for the celebration…..Using plain ole water…. and Alka Seltzer for the bubbles….Enough of the Plop, Plop, Fizz Fizz…….
I want……. POP, POP, FIZZ, FIZZ TONIGHT
.
Pop the catchers mitt….Pop the bat’s……Pop the cork!!!!
.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
.
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!
.
Enjoy the game everyone………
Don’t sell the Padres short they’re have a better record than us since July 28 and that is bad for us.
I still can’t believe this and it seem the Red Sox implode at the right time but they still only need 1 more win to make the playoff.
It would be fitting if Billz can be the one to pitch us to the pennant. I know he’s been way off since the All-Star game, and I’ve been on him as much as anybody here, but he still has the most wins on our pitching staff. We likely wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the good Billz. I think we need him at his best to come out of the playoffs a winner, and he still is a big part of our future.
GO BILLZ, GO DODGERS – put it all together and end this frustration!
Go Astros and Reds
I mean wrong not right lol
Third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff could return to the Padres lineup Tuesday after missing 17 games with thigh and back injuries.
Los Angeles has won 10 of 16 against San Diego this season.
Damn it figure Kouzmanoff would probably be back.
Hey all my blogmates! Got a BIG favor to ask of you . . . I am going to be at my class tonight and won’t be out until around 9:30, so I won’t be listening to or watching the game 😦 The favor is to PLEASE add an cheer to yours when the get the job done tonight! GO DODGERS GO!!!
Darn, the ONE time I don’t proofread – meant to say to add an extra cheer on my behalf . . . .
Consider it done, Sparkleplenty!
Damn GS by ex Giants Feliz.
Dang time warp I type that message about Feliz after my last message.
I thought Torre was bad to bring Sweeney up everytime as a PH but dang check out Norton with the Braves.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=3526
Not hard to find out all the games he’s been PH lol
haha Cards down 7-1.
And Rockies losing 2-1. But I want us to win it out right.
The Pirates kick our butt and getting shutout against the Cubs geez I like how thing work.
lol Karros say Broxton is his MVP blah.
Shad ~ You can never figure out baseball. I stopped trying a long time ago.
lol Jim Hill is everywhere he was in Anaheim I guess he knew we was going to lose.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!
Yeah not to mention we kill the Cubs. Is like the Cards are 1-5 vs the Rockies and we owned the Rockies.
Yeah not to mention we kill the Cubs. Is like the Cards are 1-5 vs the Rockies and we owned the Rockies.
Gosh double post wish my dialup wasn’t so slow so I don’t know if it post the first time.
At least Bills looks sharp so far.
Hi Everybody,
It’s the old geezer from B’Klyn here.
Let them try……AGAIN.
I’m following the lead of my buddy Truebluwill and I bought a bottle of ANDRE’ California champagne.
I’ll pop the cork as soon as the Dodgers give us a reason to celebrate. (or for that matter the Milwaukee Brewers)
This is another big night for Bills, I wish him luck.
I hope the Dodgers don’t make a hero of Cesar Ramos.
LET THE GAME BEGIN!!!
GO, DODGERS, GO!!!!!!
Hi’Ya Gang!! Ferk with a bit of recto-cranial inversion!!! Geez!!! I think you all know the drill, unacceptable!!
Either the Dodgers are not fully focus, or the other teams are getting pretty good at picking runners of the bases.
C’mon Billz!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, Jhall……………UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!
LET’S GO BILLZ, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO BILLZ, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO BILLZ, LET’S GO!!!!!
Nice inning Bills.
LOL Tru!! Actually, it is just as pathetic as unacceptable!! Oh well, let’s gitter’done!!! Got alot of ballgame to get it right!!!
WAY TO GO BILLZ!!!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
THESE SUBMISSION ERRORS ARE BECOMING A MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASSSS!!!!!!!
LET’S GO BILLZ, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO BILLZ, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO BILLZ, LET’S GO!!!!!
Maybe we will kick it up a notch now that the Rockies are winning!
Urgh 4-2 but I’d rather win to clinch.
I hope so true, I’d like to see a little more “Eye of the Tiger” coming down the home stretch and getting ready for the playoffs.
Likewise Shad, I don’t want to limp in, I want to bust the freaking door down!! LOL!!!
Where was this Furcal at the beginning of the year? Am I’m crazy to say we could’ve probably win 110 game so far and already clinch if Furcal didn’t started off slow?
OK guys, time to start raking. Just a solo shot, they very seldom kill you early. Time for the offense to get it in gear!!!
Hi ITD,
I see most are either at Petco or watching in some manner.
Got the AnDRE bubbly, got the favorite team shirts and hats, so we can get the good moJOE going. JUST WIN BABY!
I hope that was Bilz “bad” inning and we can get this Division wrapped up tonight. PHILS won, Cards loss and ROX look to win, but Braves got chopped! Let Go Dodgers!
Gosh damn it. lol beat LA seriously.
RALLY TIME!!!!!!
.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO
IT’S OKAY BILLZ, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET THAT RUN BACK!!!!!! key word is “should” 🙂
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
Andre ends the inning with a 13 pitch at-bat, and Manny swings at the first pitch – uugghhh!!!!!
That solo HR doesn’t bother me as much as Either not coming through with men on base.
WAY TO GO MATT!!!!! LET’S GO JAMES!!!!!!!
No help from the Brew crew, so it looks like it’s up to us.
But I guess that the way we want it though, Right?
Well, the first pitch pop up wasn’t so good either. Nor was the double play that was just hit by James.
Sometimes I think the Dodgers are still in shock from Sunday’s game.
I’d sure rather taste the Cold Duck than watch it!!! C’mon guys, let’s get it done. All we have faced is mediocre pitching at best for about the last week. If you can’t get it done against these guys, I’m not very optimistic about our chances against what we will see in the playoffs. Geez!!!
Dodger4life has to give the team one of his pep talks! We need our cheerleader to get with it!!!!
Your Cold Duck is going to start quacking, Jhall! lol
LOL Trumom!! So far we are laying a big duck egg!!!
Good to see Bills settle down after giving up the HR. Now we got to get it going against Ramos.
I think we alll in shocked what happen in Sunday game.
Alright we need to break the tension with some runs…..
Brewers just tied it up with a 3 run homerun by Jason Kendell.
Yeah Kendal tied it up.
Getting kind of nervous with what’s happening in Colorado.
Yes Jhall, they always do after a clinching, no matter how it’s done.
It doesn’t matter anyway.
Huggy Bear is pitching for the Brewers right now.
I couldn’t care less about the freaking Rockies, we need to take care of our own business. If we lose this game and the Rocks lose to hand us the NL West, do they crack the champagne? Any thoughts????
I like that San Diego is Dodgertown sign.
oldbrooklynfan ~ I’m getting kind of nervous with what’s happening in San Diego!
I don’t think they should jhall!!!! They need to win to get the champagne.
I wouldn’t would you?
Seems a little odd to celebrate when you lose to a sub .500 team for the 3rd game in a row. JMO!!! Kind of like, well yeah, mom died, but we just inherited half a million dollars!!!
Now, will they?………………….probably.
WAY TO GO BILLZ!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
Hell no Shad!!! I’d be packing up my bats and getting ready to kick some butt tomorrow and really earn it!!!
ORLANDO!!!!!!!! LET’S BRING HIM HOME!!!!!!!!!!
Belly whooping triple by Odog.
ODAWGGGGGGG!!! Wake Them up!!
I’m sorry but I could not come into the clubhouse after losing against a door mat team and celebrate. Hopefully our boys will make it a non issue and score some freaking runs!!!
WAY TO GO BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YAY, ANDRE!!!
Maybe now the flood gates will open and the runs will flow.
jhall – How much of that decision is up to the players and not the organization? I would think if it were strictly up to the players, they would want to win. However, not sure about how management might think differently. It is about media and money in some respects.
I would make them have batting practice/fielding problem all night lol.
And then, Jhall can open his Cold Duck!! lol
Crap!!!! Double plays sure put a damper on things!!
This is getting ridiculous.
Do you guys remember last year? The cards beat the Dbacks, and then we lost to the Pads…. Making us nl west champs… And boy did they celebrate after that!!
Good point Nelly!! I think our boys will get it done and make it a moot point.
I’m guessing Pittsburgh turned Charlie Steiner down… because he totally just proposed to Everth Cabrerra, the Puds’ shortstop.
Sometimes I wonder if he forgets what team he’s rooting for. Cheering good plays is fine, but something tells me his call for a Dodgers clincher will be halfhearted compared to that bottom of the 9th at PNC on Sunday.
Andre Cold Duck Trumom!!! LOL!!!
That’s showing the confidence they need, Jhall!
Ties on both ports.
I think so too jhall!!!!!!
Hey Brandon!!!! How are you doing?
Andre Cold Duck sounds good to me, Jhall! lol
It really doesn’t matter how a team clinches, even when they lose they celebrate, Jhall.
I’m good Nelly… I’d like to see our boys pull out a win tonight…. But again, reminding everyone of last year… and how that went down
Hi’Ya North, Brandon, and 32!!! Welcome to the impending party!!! Now that you mention it Brandon, I do. I guess you can chalk it off to getting it done all season long to get to this point. Certainly cause for some celebration. Not nearly as sweet, however!!!
They just look lethargic and tired…. I don’t get it
Billz is starting to lose it!
no one can be blamed the way it ends up and when you accomplish something you celebrate it.
I WILL.
That is very true brandon.
Hey northstateblues and 32and53fan!!! I didn’t see you come in.
North ~ Good point about Charlie. He has been driving me crazy all year.
Your right Brooklyn, like I stated earlier, celebrate your collective work for the season. And, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth!!!
Now, we need Collie!
I think they actually clinch before the played the game that night and lost.
Gosh Bills PC come on let’s get this last out.
I mean, no matter if they clinch or not…. It’s very concerning to be losing the way they are against the piss poor teams of the league…. I mean, come on guys… The Nats, the Pirates, and now possibly the Pads…. wow
Where’s the gift when you had a better season.
It doesn’t matter how the last game came out.
.
Well, Joe doesn’t seem to be too worried about Billz, does he? They just had a shot of him. Maybe somebody needs to make sure he is awake.
Crap……….one batter to many for Billz!
Well, we should be able to make up that run.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
Billz is pitching himself out of a starting roll in the playoffs.
It is however looking more and more like Billz will not make the playoff roster at all… The guy just cracks under pressure…. The problem is that he KNOWS that he’s pitching for is playoff roster spot… and he puts even more pressure on himself….. BUT CAN WE GET THE MAN SOME F!@#$ING RUNS AGAINST THIS BS TEAM!!!!!!
The Dodgers caught a break there with Gonzo gettihg thrown out!
Billz really didn’t pitch that bad. It’s only 2 runs, and he did make it through the 6th inning. The problem is we can’t score any runs.
BUT CAN WE GET THE MAN SOME F!@#$ING RUNS AGAINST THIS BS TEAM!!!!!!
By brandondaughrity@hotmail.com on September 29, 2009 9:24 PM
That is the truely pathetic part of this story!!!
Come on Blake another pinch HR would be nice here.
Urgh nice shot Dewitt.
Come on Thome get a PH homerun
I’ll take the walk!
Right now the Dodgers are under pressure to win so you have to expect them to struggle, no matter who they’re playing.
The Padre’s have nothing to lose, so they’re loose.
**** the rockies.
Rockies won!
That right Nellyjune, Bills pitch well, just no support.
Now we’re on our own.
Championship teams don’t struggle under pressure, they get it done. That’s a lame excuse!!!
At least it’s only 2-1, we’re still in this game.
Yeah like the Yankees, the Dodgers are not the Yankees.
Yeah, I’m thinking as soon as they clinch this thing…. whenever they decide to do that!! They’ll be able to real off 5 or 6 in a row
Billz did his job and pitched well!!! Kudo’s to him. The offense is dropping the ball!!!!
Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
**** this team
I think… really… no excuses…. and honestly, it bothers me how little they seem to care, and think…. “ehh… it’ll happen, and we’ll be fine”
damn another defense miscue
You know Joe has said all along, he doesn’t seem to be too worried about homefield advantage. Well, the team must have the same mindset because they seem to be playing like it’s no big deal.
The way we are playing right now, we are going to be the Wild Card and the Rockies are going to win this division!!
I’m feeling sick right now.
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!
This team is never out of it, never…….
We need Blake and Bellliard back.
TBW ~ I’m feeling sick right now, too. Amd, it’s not giddy from champagne.
We’re still alive, the Padres could bring in the wrong pitcher, it’s happened before and everybody knows that.
Boy, Charlie really doesn’t like Andre. I wish he’d shut up!!! He’s not the only one not hitting om this road trip, is he?
They’re obviously pressing… Everyone is…. they need to relax!! Have fun!! When’s the last time these guys looked like they were having fun!! They’re the first place team, with the best record in the NL…. Act like it and enjoy the damn game!! They need to RELAX!!! Quit being so GD uptight!!!
Ooooh, too much pressure!! Geez!! Give me a break. Hell’, we’re in the dam’n drivers seat!!! We should be playing with the swagger right now.
I seen this scene, take place for years.
They know that their fans want a win badly to clinch and somehow everything gets harder.
That’s what I’m saying jhall…. They need to laugh a little…. For God sakes… this team last year was sooooo relaxed…. At times they’ve looked like it this year…. But, I’m talking about the Manny antics, and the being goofy…. They helped this team relax and play loose…. They’re just presing…. They need to go to the beach tomorrow or SOMETHING!
The thing that really gets me is that for weeks we been talking about the Dodgers’ easy schedule in Sept. Playing weak teams like the Nats, Pirates & Padres. If this score holds, and it looks like it will, the Dodgers will be 3 and 5 against those teams. That makes feel really, really sick.
Andre does have the only RBI of the game. What game is Charlie watching? I am watching the ever so boring as hell Padres announcers.
You sure it wasn’t the media that was talking about it?
Nellyjune ~ every time Andre comes to bat, Charlie has to say how dreadful he has been on this road trip. If it were Juanpy, he be saying ow fabulous he is. I can’t stand him and wish he’d shut up and let Rick talk once in a while.
Can I add to the excuses – LOL!!!!!? How about the gray uniforms? These games have felt like that color…………..just dull and boring – blah!!!!!!!
As disgusted as I feel right now I’m not giving up. I still bleed Dodgers blue. I’m still Truebluewill. Come boys!
LETS GO DODGERS!!!!!
LETS GO DODGERS!!!!!
LETS GO DODGERS!!!!!
Forget the champagne, I am bringing out the tequila.
We can still clinch in san diego, tomorrow?
The Dodgers are streaky, they’ve been that way for a few years now and this is just another downturn.
Maybe they’ll turn it up in the postseason.
.
But we still got another AB tonight.
The Dodgers are streaky, they’ve been that way for a few years now and this is just another downturn.
Maybe they’ll turn it up in the postseason.
.
But we still got another AB tonight.
Nellyjune ~ the gray uniforms sounds like a good excuse. It’s as good as no sunshine in Pittsburgh. lol
truebluewill – We all bleed Dodger Blue, and that is why this is so painful to watch.
PATHETIC!!!
I think justplaindisgusted just became justplainmortified.
3,4,5 hitters: 1 for 12, 4 SOs and don’t forget the DPs
Bilz did alright, again it was the walks that did him in, very much like before.
The champagne is still cold.
But so are the Dodgers.
Yes Sir, this team sure looks ready for the playoffs. We’re going to get the Cardinals and they are going to kick our A** as usual. We’ll never get past the first series. We totally suck, big time.
MAYBE tomorrow.
Bring back Casey Blake and let him sucking it up.
C’est La Vie!!! We’ll whip’em tomorrow!!! Goodnight all, I hope you all have a great night and better tomorrow!!! Excelsior True Believers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nelly ~ You are so right, it hurts so much to see such a great season end this way.
When the Dodgers get to the postseason, they’ll start an 11 game winning streak.
Breath In, now out. A collective laugh and start it up tomorrow with a shout: GO DODGERS! Stay upbeat
Good Night jhall!!!!!! Wish you could go to bed with champagne. Take Care and God Bless my friend.
They’ve been riding the roller coaster a long time and they’re getting ready for another upturn.
Hold your hats.
After seeing the Cards getting whoop by the Reds and Rockies it might noit happen. No one is invinceable.
Maybe your right oldbrooklynfan. Maybe we have to go through all this pain now so we can feel the joy of a winning October.
I always start out the day thinking the Dodgers are going to win today. So, that will happen for sure, and just like oldbrooklynfan says, the sun will rise tomorrow with another chance to finish this division off once and for all.
Good night all. Maybe tomorrow we’ll turn it around.
I hope I am TBW.
Well, the reports from our ITD on-sight commentators should be good.
*not
I agree 32and53fan!!! I have been saying “we will get it done tomorrow for three days now” It’s getting kind of old. Maybe three is a charm so we won’t have to say it a 4th time.
Yeah lakers media day geez.
32and53fan – I am up here time warped.
OBF and TBW, that’s what I was thinking before I had to leave the game and go to the store. Just get this horrible play out of their systems and come back strong in the post season. The way Bills gets sloppy after the 5th inning does not bode well for him to be a starting pitcher in the play offs.
We will get them tomorrow.
LOL – a caller to the Dodger Talk radio show just said they should come to the game tomorrow in clown suits.
I don’t think it is quite that bad…yet.
Hi Nelly
I have not been that active on this board lately. Until I get a new tenant in my rental house, it is hard for me to get too involved in recreational activities. I have been watching in horror the last week as the Dodgers have imploded. It is bad enough to lose, but the way they have beat themselves is just not acceptable.
I was reminded that the Dodgers have not done anything the easy way all season. So, why would that change now? Not that they are, but it sometimes feels like they do these things on purpose to either test our Dodger Blue loyalty or just pisss us off. Both tactics are working brilliantly if that is the case – LOL!!!!
0-3 record
2.3 runs/per game
batting avg .189
Missed the last part lol
Frant McCourt not nervous
lol Sasha Vujacic look like Ethier.
So I say D
I say D-O,
D-O-D-G-E-R-S.
The team that’s all heart,
All heart and all thumbs,
They’re my Los Angeles, your Los Angeles,
Our Los Angeles…
Do you really think we’ll win the pennant?
Bums!
Ooh, ooh, ooh dem bums
Good song 🙂
We are up to 20 minutes.
11:44
We’ve lost 3 in a row
4 out of 5
5 out of 7
To the worst teams in the league
We’ve scored 2 runs on 8 hits the last two games to two teams who are in the bottom half of the league in ERA and runs allowed
Last 7 games we’re hitting .232
Our team batting average is now .271
It hasn’t been that low since April 13th
We give up insurance runs without a hit
The LA Times can’t tell Casey Blake from Ned Colletti
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-padres30-2009sep30,0,2416861.story
There’s no fire
“I think we can do it,” Matt Kemp said
“The champagne will be colder tomorrow,” said Manny Ramirez
“If it’s worthwhile, it’s worth the wait,” this carefree version of the manager said.
Some say there’s no panic
Maybe they can turn it on again as they have before
It really doesn’t matter
If we blow this thing, I’ll still be a Dodger fan
If we catch fire and go all the way, I’ll still be a Dodger fan
I’d just like to see someone break up a water cooler now and then to show they care a little
But that’s just me
Dodgereric ~ I broke a few things last night! I care!!!! It really hurts me to see them struggle like this!!!
.
As you say, though, I am and will always be a Dodger fan!
dodgereric – Everytime it is mentioned about Andre and his temper when he doesn’t do well. It’s written as a negative thing, which I always took the opposite way that he really cares about winning for his team and doesn’t want to let them down. However, it seems Joe has them all in this attitude that “it will be okay.” Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I really don’t know, but it sure seems to be working against them right now. However, when we win tonight, it won’t matter, will it? Like you said, we are Dodger fans…………enough said 🙂
BTW – Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!! It’s going to happen today, right? It’s got to!!!!
LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!!!!
Lot’s of Dodger Blue in the streets of San Diego last night. Did hear a fan yell as Rockies victory was posted on the scoreboard, “Not here, not tonight…” And I thought, “Right On!” The Dodgers players either make a statement…or go away. I’ll not make excuses for them or beg for a little TV champagne party. This isn’t about Joe or Ned or Frank or the Rockies or the Padres or whatever. These guys are either championship caliber players or they’re not. There are smoke and mirrors in sports.
Good Morning ITD, Dodger Faithful and Our Beloved Boy’s in Blue……………
.
The wait continues….so I have some motivational music for the boy’s as we attempt to them get fired up……This first one is rather long 15 minutes……Our offense should Rally half as long…..we have played like this before…here goes
.
LET THERE BE ROCK!!!!!!!…….

.
Just go out and………….PLAY !!! PLAY!!!! PLAY!!!!!
.
LETS HAVE FUN TONIGHT GENTLEMEN!!!!!!
*As we attempt to get them fired up……….
.
LET THERE BE NO MORE ERRORS!!!!!!!
I am ticked off beyond belief at this point. We still control our own destiny, but we are not playing like it. The defense has been terrible, and what wins in the playoffs? Pitching and flawless defense. The offense has been terrible, and Manny has not been leading the offense in five months. Furcal, Andre, and Kemp can lead the offense into the playoffs, but they are getting no help from the manager. His lineups and management of the pitching staff are just incredibly poor. Leaving Bills in the game so long in the sixth inning again is just unthinkable. We are still ahead in the loss column by one game over the Phillie phans and two games over the freakin’ genius LaRussa’s Cards. We could also eject the Rockies from the playoffs and play the Braves in the NLDS. I’d much rather play a five game series against the Braves than against either the Phillies or the Cards. But what we’ve got here is a failure in attitude.
.
Here’s Joe’s attitude: “What’s worthwhile is worth the wait,” Torre said. Lackluster is an understatement.
.
Here’s my attitude: Why wait? Like jhall said, KICK DOWN THE DOOR!
.
SIMPLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!
Apologies to Robert Palmer, Simply Irresistible
.
Thanks to jhall for the inspiration
.
Torre’s thinking makes me miserable
Joe compromised our principle, yeah yeah
This kind of **it is typical
His mind is quite fatigable
.
He’s a contract Frank endorsed, he’s another dead horse
Joe plays down to weaker teams like there’s no other course
He once looked good to Frank, but now I find him
.
Simply unacceptable
Simply unacceptable
.
Frank’s loving is so powerful, huh
He’s simply unteachable
The signing is irreversible
The thought is unbearable
.
He’s an unnatural wretch, and he sleeps on the bench,
He deserves no applause, Frank surrendered because
He once looked good to Ned, but now we find him
.
Simply unacceptable
Simply unacceptable
.
Simply unacceptable he’s so bad, Frank tell us where the money went
Simply unacceptable he can’t coach, theres no other way to go
.
He’s unavoidable, I’m backed against the wall
He gives us feelings like we never felt before
Joe’s breaking promises, Ned can’t find a clause
He once looked good to Frank, but now we find him
.
Simply unacceptable
He’s so bad, Frank tell us where the money went
Simply unacceptable he can’t coach, theres no other way to go
.
His methods are unthinkable
The proof is irrefutable, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
His mind is so fatigable, huh
His moves are so defensible

It would be a smart and very good thing to get serious and win this thing tonight. I was really hoping to clinch in Pittsburgh ’cause San Diego could put a mediocre little league team out there in Padres unis and they’d play us tough, too. I would really hate to let the Rockies back into this thing.
Crash ~ Fabulous Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crash, that was simply BRILLIANT!!!
“The Dodgers are negotiating a long-term contract extension for general manager Ned Colletti, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing an unnamed ‘high-ranking club official.’ ”
You’ve got to be kidding! Frank must have a lot more money that’s burning a hole in his pocket for Colletti to waste. Ned’s stupid signings have become legendary. Not only have they wasted huge amounts of money, but they have blocked the progress of, or traded off, minor league talent to the long-term detriment of the Dodgers.
And which GM made the better decision last year when Manny Ramirez, Bobby Abreu, and Adam Dunn were all available. Ned chose to go with Manny for a mere $23, 854,494 salary and a ridiculous player option for 2010. For that, LA has so far gotten 62 RBIs and 19 HRs. Washington chose Adam Dunn for $8,000,000. For that, they got 103 RBIs and 38 HRs to date. The Angels signed Bobby Abreu for $5,000,000 and got 102 RBIs and 15 HRs to date for less than 21% of Manny’s salary.
Yes, Frank, sign Ned quickly. There must be lots of other clubs anxious to scoop him up just like they were waiting in line to sign Andrew Jones and Manny Ramirez. After all, someone who is so skilled in getting the best value for your money is hard to find.
I think many of us on ITD would agree with your logic, redfox. The problem with it may very well lie with Frank himself. I suspect that it was Frank with his Boston memories who wanted Manny above all – why? For promotional purposes more than on-field performance. How does Dunnwood or Abreuwood sound by comparison? With Frank performance doesn’t matter – he probably can’t even recognize it; else why would he consider keeping Ned any longer than absolutely necessary. The troubling aspect with the Dodgers winning in the playoffs is that the fans deserve it, but the ownership DOES NOT.
A bit unfair to criticize Ned on Manny. Last winter this whole town had its collective panties in a knot because Manny hadn’t been delivered yet. Who REALLY wanted Dunn or Abreu over Manny in real time…not in hindsight? No one knew (or maybe they did?!?!?!?!) that Man Ram was juicing, would get suspended, and return as a slug. Quite frankly, this club has not been the same since Manny returned, either because he shunned them during the suspension, or the team felt privately betrayed, or they miss the potent stick they were counting on…heck, maybe it’s all the above. But it certainly appears we have Manny for 2010 and it also certainly appears he is every bit a 37-year-old baseball player.
Carcyn,
sorry I did not see your message. I was in 110 row 16 wearing my Dodger poncho.
Ugh, disgusted that they did not do it las night. We are in 112 row 9 tonight but we are leaving right after the game as we both start work early on Thursday.
.
Let’s hope it happens tonight! We went for a walk a few hours after the game and as we turn the corner there was Ethier, baby and Maggie. Ethier was playing with the baby as they walked. Maggie’s face when she saw us Dodger fans was like “oh no” but we did not bother them. We are not that kind of fans. We respected the quality time they were having. Baby looked so cute.
,
well we got to check out soon. Hotel was nice enough to give us a late checkout of 2.p.m. I recomend breakfast at the Yolk….Yolk Cafe i think is the name. Very good breakfast.

I am so nervous! And I hope it happens tonight!!! I’m going to go to church and light a votive candle for them!!! Did anyone see the story on Matt Kemp on the Dodger site today? I think that Doug Mienkewitz’s ( I think I spelled it wrong) comments regarding Matt being a better player than Andre Ethier were dispicable!!! Why would you do that? He is a bench player that hasn’t contributed a thing and he goes on and on like that! It takes an entire team effort to win. Matt and Andre are the heart and soul of that team! He did not have the right to make those comments!

hmmmmmmmmmm still funny how things work iut and now the Cubs got shutout by Charlie Morton .
lmao at Dunnwood or Abreuwood bring back Pierrewood lol
I certainly am no member of the clubhouse, where real personalities come out and play, but just season alone, I feel Ethier is the MVP, based on his sheer number of emotional, game-winning, season-changing hits. But I understand where Mientkiewicz is coming from. I believe he’s alluding to leadership. He deems Matt a leader. None of us can “feel” what a player feels or which player(s) the team “feels” actually stirs the pot. The Dodgers are lucky to have both Kemp and Ethier and hopefully, we’ll be treated to that tandem for the next decade.
messagebear, very good points, and I agree with you.
kahliforni, good points also. Although I did object to resigning Manny last year and stated that it was very unlikely that Manny would perform at the same level again, I can understand Ned feeling some pressure to resign him. But with no other team interested in signing Manny, it was ridiculous to give him such a huge contract when other teams were able to sign Dunn and Abreu for a small fraction of what Ned gave Manny. And I doubt that any other GM in baseball would have given Manny a player only option for those huge dollars. That certainly warrants criticism. At the very least, it should have been a MUTUAL option.
Ned has made way too many mistakes in his time as Dodger GM. At a time when most of us were clamoring to give Kemp and Ethier a chance, Ned was constantly blocking their chances with stupid signings and even trying to trade them. Kemp and Ethier have vindicated our evaluation of their potential this year and have indicted Ned and Joe for their lack of recognizing and properly developing their talent. And look at how Ned treated Ethier this year in salary negotiations. He pays Manny much, much more than he should have and then fights giving Ethier a small, well-deserved fraction of it.
Yes, Ned has made a few good moves and deserves credit for them, but on the whole I view his time as GM in a negative light. Rather than credit him with the team’s success, I think that success is more in spite of him than because of him.
spell check it’s “out” not iut.
Urgh I hope is not going to be 1996 all over again.
redfox, I only defended Ned, re Manny. Otherwise, I agree with you for the most part. His ENTIRE body of work is less than stellar. Not terrible, but not stellar. His one BIG mistake, in hindsight, of course, was trading Edwin Jackson (and Tiffany) to Tampa Bay for Baez and Carter. That’s why a guy like McDonald is so frustrating…any young pitcher, for that matter. McDonald has obviously had a mediocre year out of the pen. Is he trade bait? Will he dominate five years from now…here or somewhere else? So far, Ned has been OK trading kids (but I suspect Logan White had more to do with THAT expertise than Ned). But as you allude to, it’s Ned’s PVL acquisitions that blocked young, everyday talent that rankles the most, along with Joe’s “grandpa” preferences for the elderly.
Here’s a classic quote from 2006 and the Jackson trade:
“By acquiring Danys Baez and Lance Carter from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Edwin Jackson and Chuck Tiffany on Saturday, General Manager Ned Colletti again made it clear he wants a championship team in 2006. ‘I can’t sit around and wait,’ he said. ‘I want the Dodgers to win now.'”
FIRE COLLETTI NOW, if not sooner!!!
