Alright, new thread!!! Thanks Josh!!!! Let’s go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!
.
BEAT THE G’NATS!!!!

Yes…… Thanks Josh :-)

Dang Raiders defense look good until that TD’s but the offense in that game was terrible. KC had 403 in total offense and only scored 10 points

Dang Raiders defense look good until that TD’s but the offense in that game was terrible. Wow wonder if the Raiders going to blow this 13-10 lead?

Dang forgot to delete that first sentence and I’m glad the Vikings won because I would be mad if the Lions break their losing sreak.

Come on Raiders you can do it.

It’s Time For Dodgerbaseball

This is tune up time for the playoffs. Lincecum is the type of pitcher we will face most everyday in the post season. I was just getting ready to post that we need Wolfy to get thru the first couple of innings unscathed. He seems to have problems in the 1st and 2nd, and then settles in. As I was typing, Boom!! Oh well, solo shots don’t kill you. Let’s go Wolfy!!!!!

Wev can’t win if we don’t score, keep this in check Wolfy.

Note to Frank……I am not a fan of Expierence Pandamonium behind the plate…..Come on Now!!!!

Orlando Hudson .438 (7-16) and Juan Pierre .500 (6-12) have done the best of any Dodgers against Lincecum. The Dodgers have hit NO homeruns against Lincecum.

Unbelievable these 2 not in.

Good afternoon all.
Downright UGLY win for Raider Nation, but we’ll take them any way we can get them!
GO DODGERS!! Make Lincecum work, and hammer him!
PLEASE make it 2 for 2 in wins for my teams today.
It would be an awesome birthday present! :)

Battle your way through Lincecum Boy’s!!!!

YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Lincecum is human. Andre just proved it!
Just Ethieriffic!!!

A week or so ago, I saw a comment by Hudson saying he would not be back next year, and this was before Belliard got quite so many starts at second. As I said before, I have no idea if he was kidding, dead serious or what. Has anyone seen anything?

I didn’t see anything Knouff!! However, I wasn’t really looking. If he is disgruntled, well, I guess he should look in the mirror and show up in July, August, and September. He really hasn’t done squat since June.

Come on Furcal hit a gapper to scored Wolf.

Urgh as I type that he flyed out to center.

I don’t blame Hudson one bit and has been resting too much this month.

The Hudson rumor mill says that, as a free-agent-to-be, he has priced himself OUT of Frank’s pocketbook based on his All-Star year….which, by the way, has come to a crawl.

Time warp!

Yeah 1st homerun off of Lincecum number 101

There are no “gifts” in this game. Belliard has simply outplayed Hudson.

Wow small ball with Blake work and Kemp was 0/11 against Lincecum. I’m not even scare of Lincecum.

All right ANDRE!!!!! WTG 31 HR & 100 RBI. MVP! MVP! MVP! MVP! That’s the way to take care of Pondscum!

Correction: 101 RBI

Way to go Andre!!! Another love letter to Nelly!!! Outstanding!!!

I saw Hudson’s comments in the newspaper; it may have been a T.J. Simers colume. We have no idea in what context these comments were made but the fact he made it means he is thinking about it.

All right BELLIARD!!!!! Another clutch hit! 14 RBI in 18 games. We’ve got Lincecum on the ropes. I’ve love to see them knock him out next inning.

R Belliard reached on infield single to second, M Kemp and J Loney scored.

That’s interested something that Phillips did against the Rockies and Izturis did last night.

Cannot complain about Belliard playing – he’s got the hot hand at least for now. However, let’s not forget how many games Hudson has saved us with his D, and his hitting has not been bad overall. I would love to have him back, but I don’t expect Frank to pay any big contracts. That also does not bode well for keeping our dynamic duo much longer.

Another steal by Furcal is he finally healthy now?

How sweet is that to watch the Giant’s ace leave the field for a relief pitcher behind 4-1 in the 5th inning?

Let’s put up a cocked number this inning now.

knouffbrock, you raise an interesting point about the Dodgers going after certain high priced free agents. However, the fact they have not landed any of these players does raise the question of how serious the organization was about paying the price. We will see what happens but I am more concerned about what happens this season.

Sitting in the dugout, Lincecum looks like Jackson Browne or Marilyn Manson…

Many thanks, everyone. Speaking of payroll, Ethier and Kemp, I see no way to avoid getting into Frank’s wallet. The Dodgers have made strong bids to land players ( Soriano, Aramis Ramiriz ) that have put up similar numbers, and now we already have a couple of them. Gonna have to pay up or there will be some seriously PO’d, and I mean seriously PO’d fans.

Great to see Pondscum get knocked out! Nelly if your watching what are Krok & Kuip saying now!

Gosh damn it Haren

jhall, might want to save a couple shekels for Broxton, as well……

To me this looks like Lincecum….
.

.
Sorry Billy :-)

If I see Kemp, Ethier and Kershaw in a Yankees uniform when they’re FA than I won’t be happy.

Gosh damn 2 homeruns by a 31 yrs old journeyman that really make me mad.

Dodger4life, how in the world did you come up with that Who knew, Timmy the Kid!

If Frank and now, Dodger Spin Machine Wonder Boy Ned, hope to continue to get the Dodgers back to being a perennial contender, they will have to pony up the bucks to keep Ethier and Kemp. I see them as our best bets. Loney is hovering, Martin and Billz are trade bait.

You’re right Khali, Brox needs to be a consideration. Just don’t make dumb signings like Andruw Jones, Jason Schidt, and Brett Tomko, and the money should be there. Geez!! Amazes me how soon management/ownership forgets how inept Ned was early on.

Time Warping gang!!!

I know I am very, very late, but an Ethieraholic can’t let this go by without writing something.

WAY TO GO ANDRE EVERETT ETHIER, #16, RIGHT FIELDER FOR THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL ~ THE LOS ANGELES DODGERS!!!!! 31ST HOMERUN AND 101ST RBI!!! ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!!!!

jhall – so very sweet – thanks:)

truebluewill – I was in my car so I was listening on the radio before going into the store. They were talking about how well Lincecum was pitching and that Tim had only given up 9 homeruns all season and none had come from a Dodger. It was like Andre was listening to them because as soon as I walked into the store, Andre came up and sent a shot over the centerfield wall. When I got back in the car, they were deflated, and they are pretty quiet now as I am watching them on telelvision.

Another hold for status Kuo.

Wow 2 ibb in the innings and Loney with his 2nd one today.

I am really enjoying this game today! Love that we knocked Timmy out early! And, am hoping by the end of the day, since the Rockies are winning, the Giants will be pretty much out of the picture as far as playoff hopes go. GO DODGERS, LET;S FINISH THEM OFF!!!!

I am with Dodger4life on the Pandamonium sign behind home plate. That phrase is plastered all over AT&T Park and on bay area tv and radio for Pablo, and it’s very annoying if you are a Dodger fan. So, maybe whoever is in charge of advertising behind home plate needs to be careful about not advertising things that make you think of the visiting team. However, with a game like this, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to eat Panda Express while thinking the Dodgers just sent them packing on a flight to Arizona with a very slim, slim chance of making the playoffs.

Way to Go Boy’s!!!!!

It looks like Pablo eats a lot of Panda Express!!!

I am posting so far back I am not even on the recent post board…LOL!!!

Hi Everybody
Just got in and needless to say, It’s good to see what’s happened so far in this game.

SECURITY!!!!!

Blah Chargers and Blah Jackson.

Beautiful Dodger win today! 30 games over .500 for the first time this season. The Dodgers last finished 30 or more games over .500 in 1977 at 98-64. Also, they’ve been a lot better lately 19-10 in their last 29 games.

I bet Nelly happy with Rivers performance today.

Gosh Thome and his k’s.

Why not just let some useless person on the bench hit?

Wow Mike Tober what a hit.

I was at the Met game today, with my daughter.
The Mets led 6-0 going into the bottom of the 9th.
After a little struggle it came down to K-rod with 2 on, with the score 6-2.
He closed it out to the delight of the crowd.

Thank-you Dodgers for taking care of those nasty Giants and, proving why we are #1 !!!!!!
.
Have a safe flight, lots of rest, and continue on our road to the playoffs.
.
DODGERS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!

The Giants gave Bills his 1st and 2nd career lost against them this year and now we gave Lincecum his 1st loss against us and hope a lot more

Wolf is a winner and now those fan that said he was a loser could get on Bills now for being a loser.

Urgh his 1st save this week I better not lose by 1 save.

All in all, a wonderful glorious birthday for me!
Beautiful weather, off from work, and both my teams won!!
GO RAIDERS!
GO DODGERS!

Good game and good series. Let’s go get the best record in the NL and secure home field advantage for the playoffs. Have a great rest of the day.

Tru, I haven’t had any Panda Express food lately. I am down 38 pounds since you saw me at the ITD tour in June.

I have had the game on as a background while I do other things on my computer. It looks like the Dodger hitting is coming back. I hope we can keep up the momentum and finish ahead of the Cards for home field advantage.

I have been playing detective during the game. Someone hacked into my mother’s cousin’s Yahoo account and sent messages to everybody in her address book saying she was in England for a “program” and had all her money stolen. She was begging people to send her 1200 pounds via a MoneyGram to an address in Manchester.
When I saw the email, I could immediately spot it as a fraud. My mother’s cousin is an educated woman and there is no way she would write something in such poor English with misspellings and grammatical errors.
My mother initially believed the story and wrote back.
I called the Manchester police and they verified the address where the money was requested to be sent did not exist.
I am puzzled why someone would go to all that trouble to request money be sent to a non-existent address.

WooHoo, win streak!!! Way to go Dodgers!!!

Shad I dont remember anyone saying that wolf was a loser….just that he wasn’t a winner….a little different I think….and in no way is Bills a loser, just a little frusterated at the moment!!!
.
GO DODGERS GO!!!!

Nelly ~ How are your Giants fans doing at home? Will they root with you for the Dodgers in the playoffs?

truebluewill – I am not sure how they are doing. They are at the baseball academy. All I know is my hubby owes Dodger4life ice cream. And, no, they won’t want the Dodgers to do well in the playoffs. In that respect, they are definitely Gnat fans.

*frustrated….I think that they were referring to the fact that Ned didn’t get us an ace so to speak….Randy Wolf has been spectacular this season, and I look for more of the same in the post season. Billingsley is human and young, This is just a hunch but maybe, just maybe he was a little shy in telling them about his hamstring and they changed mechanics. Only to later find out that it wasn’t the mechanics to begin with but a bothered hamstring. Now reverting back to the mechanics to straighten it all out. Chad has been to good in the past to just suddenly go bad…they will work through this .

Gotta love it :)

Two batters later, Ethier drove a changeup into the right-center pavilion for the Dodgers’ first 100 RBI season since J.D. Drew in 2006, the first 30/100 season since Adrian Beltre in 2004 and the first by a Dodgers outfielder since Shawn Green in 2002.

Great win today. We’re headin’ for the barn now, as they say out here.

I see that charmer Bradley has been suspended by the Cubs.
Ned takes his licks on this blog, but you’ve got to give credit and remember he got rid of that jerk and got us Ethier at the same time.

…….and that was one good move.

Bring the Ring to LA in 2009!!!

I would have to guess by the outstanding achievments of Ronnie Belliard that he is extremely happy he is flying to D.C. in the morning, I know I sure am :-)
.
GO DODGERS GO!!!!

Good evening ITD boys and girls!
Don’t know how long I can stay tonight, but had to chime in after another series win! And yes, we can all tell the naysayers that the Dodgers CAN BEAT a team’s ace! Today’s game went a long way in my mind – especially how we clobbered Lincecum. And it all started by our Everyday ‘Dre! I went back to the last time I was here, and have the following responses:

Cat & Knoff, thx for your well wishes for my mom. And Cat, I’m fine. I’ll leave a message on your blog, seeing how you and I never seem to make it onto ITD at the same time to talk.

Mr. Pianoman – You were asking the other day about a Star Wars night at Dodger Stadium. Well, I just saw this on the homepage – here is a snippet of the press release…

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers will pay tribute to George Lucas’ “galaxy far, far away” with a special STAR WARS Night on Saturday, Oct. 3. Fans will have the opportunity to sit in a special My Town section – labeled Dodgertown, Star Wars: The Clone Wars – and receive a free T-shirt featuring Jedi Master Yoda. In addition, the themed evening will feature pre-game ceremonies, photo opportunities, and in-game elements including STAR WARS characters, trivia, clips, music, and more. The event will take place prior to and during the Dodgers’ 7:10 p.m. game with the National League West rival Colorado Rockies.

The entire press release is here: http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20090918&content_id=7034306&vkey=pr_la&fext=.jsp&c_id=la

Boy, to see that 16 again brings back memories of February. It’s amazing what 7 months can do. That 16 represented Andre just getting through arbitration without any hassles. Now, it means without hassles and a big, well deserved paycheck.

Hey CP!!!!! How are you doing? This Ethieraholic is very proud of our Andre.

Well, I guess back in February, Andre did get a big paycheck. Now, we just want a big, long-term contract for Andre. That sounds better :)

My Nellygirl! Ya know, every time I see Andre on TV, the first 2 people I think of are you and my mom. Both of you are BIG TIME ETHIERAHOLICS!!! No doubt does seeing D4’s 16 does it bring back memories. But I’ve been saying to myself all year long. The Dodgers better lock up Andre and Matty with long term contracts!!!

As far as I’m concerned, I’m doing fine. Yes, there are some changes going on in my life, as it relates to me and working. No, I don’t have a job; not in the traditional sense. But last Saturday, I went to a seminar in Oxnard about (and don’t roll your eyes) about becoming a certified full-charge bookkeeper. Well, it’s a DVD “class” that I’m taking and probably inside of a month, I’ll be done with it and will be certified to either (1) work for a company as a certified full-charge bookkeeper, or (2) get my own clients where I have my own home-based business where I “do” the books for a small business, or both. I plan to “start” my class tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it’s going.

That sounds fantastic CP!!! Nowadays, on-line courses are the way to go. Why not? About 4 years ago, I had to get certified so I can teach kids with second language needs. Well, I took three on-line course from the Univ. of Laverne. I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do once you are finished.

And yes, we need to get Andre and Matt locked up with long-term contracts. These two have been simply remarkable this season, and I am sure there is more to come from this Dynamic Duo.

What I meant to say is the on-line course included a DVD as well. I forgot to mention that part in my post.

Thx Nelly. Yes, it’s still a little scary – ya know, the fear of the unknown, but the last time I had an “odd” feeling in this manner was my decision to join Great Expectations. If you don’t know, Great Expectations was a dating service that I joined in 1994, and in 1995, I met my husband Jim. Well, that was a lot of $ and I feel just as nervous now making this decision (all by myself – no help from my husband) as I did making that decision to join Great Expectations. I’m hoping that I eventually feel as great about this decision as I did before. I think I will.

And yes, Andre and Matt have been remarkable this season. I see it every time one does something great and the other is there with a huge grin on his face! You can tell that they are best friends! Well, I think they are best friends!

Well, I said before I didn’t know how long I would be able to stay on ITD tonight. It seems like this is it for me tonight. Nelly, I’ll catch up with you later! Good night!

An article from the other dugout – the gnats.

CP – I was in the submission error trap and couldn’t get out. This is very, very frustrating to not be allowed to post when you want to at times. Good Night and God Bless CP!!!!

Yep!! I agree…. Timmy didn’t have his stuff today, that might just be a reflection of how good…. our line up can be when running on all cylinders. We need to keep running at optimum performance, against these teams, on this last road stand. Goals need to be met from here to the ring or it will all be for naught.
.
One pitch at a time….One swing at a time……One game at a time…..
.
The Magic has no boundries…..It is alway’s within…waiting to be unleashed…..Make it happen Boy’s!!! Make it happen!!!

Thanks for beating our rivals Boy’s…..They will have to wait a while to smile like we are……and yes I am grinning from ear to ear this evening….
.
Good Night and God Bless Everyone :-)

It is definitely a good feeling, especially living up here. Not that I haven’t worn my Dodger blue proudly around here, but it sure will be nice to wear it and know the gnats fans are going to have to wait a little longer for a chance at post season play once again. Good Night Dodger4life!!!

Don’t worry Steve, I’ll owe you a Latte. Thought I’d put in a late-night entry in memoriam:

Lights Out Reprise (Or: “How ’bout them Niners, whiners?”)

When the lights go out on your season,
And the sun don’t shine today,
You’ll ask “Who put the lii-yiiiights out on our season? Oh, no, (Sing with me, Steve)
Theeee-eeeeeeeee Dodger Blue.”

The trophy cabinets are still dusty
And, my friend, still empty too
New York’s winning ways haven’t made it to the bay
OOOoooooooohhhhhhhh, Why so blue?

Ol’ Krukow and Kuiper, they wet their hankys
No Pandas quaking in the Fall games
OOOOooohh, my, my my my
OOOoooohhhhhhhhhhhhh Why so Blue?

Now the lights have gone down on your city,
In October, the Giants won’t play
They’ll be leveling up their Worlds of Warcraft, thanks to
Theeeeee-eeeeeeeeeeeeee Dodger Blue.

[/tear]

Well, I guess back in February, Andre did get a big paycheck. Now, we just want a big, long-term contract for Andre. That sounds better :)

1 year/$3.1M (2009)
re-signed by LA Dodgers 2/17/09 (avoided arbitration, $3.75M-$2.65M)
performance bonuses: $25,000 each for 596, 625 PAs; $50,000 for 650 PAs

Matt Kemp of 1 year/$0.467M (2009)
James Loney 1b 1 year/$0.465M (2009)

Time to give these other 2 the same treatment

This should be no surprise at all but Cubs suspend Milton Bradley for rest of season. I’m so glad we got Ethier for Bradley/Perez.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-cubs-bradleysuspended&prov=ap&type=lgns&success=1#comments

Torres drove a 1-2 pitch into the pavilion seats in left-center for his first career leadoff homer and the fifth this season by the Giants. The Dodgers’ staff had not allowed a leadoff home run in the first inning all season until Friday night’s series opener, when Eugenio Velez(notes) victimized Vicente Padilla(notes) in the Giants’ 8-4 victory.

NOTES: Wolf is 6-0 with a 2.41 over his last eight starts. When he retired Freddy Sanchez(notes) to end the third, the left-hander reached the 200-inning mark for the fourth time in his 11-year career and first time since 2003 with Philadelphia. … The last time the Dodgers were 30 games over .500 was Oct, 2, 1985 (94-64). … Giants RF Randy Winn(notes) extended his career-best errorless streak to 200 games. But he also is in a career-worst homerless drought of 453 at-bats.

Too many milestones in this series and not to mention Posey 1st major league hit. Well it look like it took us almost 24 years to finally get over 30 games.

The Dodgers, trying to win consecutive division crowns for the first time since 1977-78, reduced their magic number to eight for clinching the West and four for securing a postseason berth for the third time in four years.

They improved the league’s best record to 90-60, reaching the 90-victory mark for the first time since winning a division title in 2004 with a 93-69 record under Jim Tracy—who now manages the Rockies. It is Torre’s 12th season with 90 or more wins, the others all coming with the Yankees during a 12-year span.

NL pitchers coming off Cy Young Award seasons were 10-0 with four no-decisions against the Dodgers since Sept. 9, 2003, when Edwin Jackson(notes) beat Randy Johnson(notes) at Arizona in his major league debut. No reigning Cy Young winner in either league had been charged with a loss at Dodger Stadium since way back on June 5, 1993, when Kevin Gross beat Greg Maddux(notes) and the Atlanta Braves 5-1.

That’s interested to fine out and I guess those writers do their research.

Hudson’s batting average is .288, but he’s hitting .250 in 13 games in September. After Sunday’s game, Hudson said he felt fine physically but conceded “I haven’t been doing the job.”

“My man Belliard came in, they made a great trade to get him in here and he’s doing a great job at second base,” Hudson said. “All I can do is cheer for him.”

Team Player.

I understand the sentiment to want to lock up Ethier, Kemp etc to long-term contracts. I can see as that would also appeal to the Dodgers to do so. As a Dodger fan, I’d love to make sure they don’t leave. However, I don’t really think it’s in the player’s best interests to sell out their arbitration years right now.

I really don’t see McCourt “rewarding” anyone. If he offers, I’d have to take a real hard look at it and see who would benefit the most long-term. It’s probably not the player.

You all saw what the economy did to free agents last winter. If I were them, I’d go ahead and ride out my arbitration years. By the time they’re through with them, (hopefully) the economy will be in recovery and those really big long-term deals will return.

32and53,
That is great that you have dropped 38 pounds! Sorry to hear abour that mail scam to your mother’s cousin. You know the other day I received an email that had my initial and last name with a long number at the end saying Fraud and that I had underpaid the IRS and needed to pay penalties. AT first I was “Oh no!” then I checked it first and it was bogus.
.
CP,
So good to read you again. A lot of people take classes on line nowdays. A friend at work that has two small children take her classes online. Good luck and glad your mom doing well!

I think I need to take a course about arbitration and contracts in the mlb. I am totally lost when it comes to these issues.

Good Afternoon ITD, Dodger Faithful and Our Beloved Boy’s In Blue…….
.
Eric I understand where your coming from….It is a buisness first and foremost. I would like to see greed take a backseat from time to time though. Isn’t there a saying a bird in hand is better than 2 in the tree??? Could’nt this apply to both parties??? I mean 3 million a year as it is….. is healthy….How much healthier do you really need to be, all ego’s aside. That also goes for management, Was I the only one offended… when a batter wearing Orange and Black nicknamed the Panda is hitting at Dodger Stadium and the reader board behind home plate say’s ” Expierence Pandamonium…..”

I was very much offended by “Experience Panamonium”, dodger4life!!!
.
I don’t know much about the wheeling and dealing, Dodgereric, but I know you always know what you are talking about.

No…. I am not saying that Andre should’nt do what is in his best interest, or that he is in anyway being greedy….I am just stating my desire to see some normalcy in the game and the ability to watch players remain with their beloved ballclubs.

I hope Andre piles it on the rest of the season and in the playoffs, and then goes for $15 mil. in the upcoming arbitration. That ought to break Frank’s back, because Andre will probably get close to that, if management knows what’s good for them. I hope Matt does the same the following year. Frank, who had his big bucks squandered by Ned, deserves to be really taken to the cleaners. I personally can’t stand his guts as an owner, and I wish he’d get out of town and head back east.

Dodger players YES; management eat sh**!!!

:)

Zambrano? Just say NO! 9 out of 10 Gatorade coolers AND 30 Helens agree: Carlos Zambrano = clubhouse suicide.

———————

“1. Carlos Zambrano, RHP, Cubs – At some point this offseason, Theo Epstein will get a phone call from Cubs general manager Jim Hendry about a deal for Zambrano. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune first reported that the Cubs will explore a deal for Zambrano, who will consider going only to the Red Sox, White Sox, or Dodgers. At the trade deadline this year, the Sox explored Cliff Lee, Felix Hernandez, and Roy Halladay; they will likely make another attempt at Hernandez, whose price tag on a long-term deal might be too rich for the Mariners.”
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/articles/2009/09/20/measuring_the_managers/?page=4

—————–

I know we need pitching for next season. But we all saw what happened with ol’ Milton Bradley over in Chi-town. And Vincente Padilla has something to prove, hopefully we’ll benefit from that.

But we don’t need Zambrano’s prima donna diva act here in L.A., we’ve got enough of that as it is. And as much as some dislike Torre’s judgment calls, we don’t want to give the guy a heart attack in his last year before retirement.

Save the Dodgers Clubhouse, let Zambrano be Boston’s problem! Within weeks of next season’s start, they’ll be nostalgic for the days when they had Manny Ramirez to kick around. At least Manny raked HR’s and RBI’s for them… Zambrano might be a HUGE price to pay for results every 5 games… he might end up a Giant by season’s end… which would be a year or two too soon for the Giants’ usual MO in polishing dustbin PVLs.

Eric does know what he is talking about. Players have so many years of service time before they become eligible for arbitration (a horribly negative process that both players and organizations work to avoid), and then become eligible for free agency some time after that. I don’t have all the details. But the system in use today is a far cry from the time before free agency when players were pretty much the property of the club that signed that player and had little choice in their own future. Some would say that era was better because it made players more competitive but clearly major league baseball took advantage of this situation. I still chuckle at the story of Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale holding out in 1965 or 1966. When they finally settled Drysdale got $100,000 and Koufax got $125,000. Those two players were pretty much the cornerstone of the franchise at that time but other than that they had no real bargaining power.

The pendulum swung the other way with free agency and arbitration, both hard fought victories for the players. Then came the player agents. We think many professional athletes are overpaid but no one forces the owners to agree to such outlandish amounts. But the reality is that players are paid for what they did in the past. They are working towards the big payday. Are they greedy for wanting more? Are the owners stingy for wanting to pay less? You be the judge.

So that is why is may not be in the best interest of the player to give up arbitration or free agency rights or in the club’s best interest to lock up players for long contracts. I think the Dodgers have already demonstrated an unwillingness to negotiate long term contracts and may in fact be willing to pay a bit more per year but for a shorter duration. Remember when many of you were calling for the Dodgers to lock up Russell Martin to a long term deal? Would that have been good for either side? Remember Adrian Beltre, who had a breakout year prior to being eligible for free agency? It sure looks like the Dodgers made the right business decision not to resign him to the deal he (meaning the agent) wanted, although I do think it could be argued that even with his less than spectacular production since leaving the Dodgers, that production was better than most of the replacements at third base.

As I have said before, enjoy the players now because there is a good chance the team will not be able to keep them all. There is no such thing as loyalty no matter what anyone says. I do think the shorter contracts still can provide a generous income to the player but still give that player the incentive to improve and keep producing. However, I also understand the player’s desire to provide for his financial future. It is definitely a part of the game I don’t like.

Thanks Eric, it is a 45 minute ride each way, I’ll think of something I’m sure…..Payday is tomorrow at lunch :-)
.
Baseball Boogie…….and they say Broxton, Billingsley, Kershaw and Troncoso are Honeycutt’s best work…that alway’s make’s me laugh….

kahli, I think I will always cheer for Hudson no matter what uniform he wears. Well, maybe not one…….

D4, first – congratulations on the ice cream wager! Make sure you moan appropriately as you savor the feast! Second – as much as we want them to stay together, it’s not very realistic. We all have to remember that….

Orel Hershiser finished his career as a Giant
Fernando Valenzuela as a Padre
Willie Mays as a Met
Babe Ruth as a Brave
Henry Aaron as a Brewer
Ty Cobb as an Athletic
Wade Boggs as a Devil Ray
Tom Seaver as a White Sox
Yogi Berra as a Met
Michael Jordan as a Wizard
Joe Namath as a Ram
Johnny Unitas as a Charger
Etc, etc, ad nauseum………

But there is the occasional Tony Gwynn, isn’t there?

Now for something completely different. While I was writing this, a fellow Dodger fan here in the office dragged something out of the ought-to-be-forgotten past. If you didn’t know, you will damn me for introducing this to you. If you had forgotten, you will damn me for making you remember. I Damn HIM for making me remember:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JW7q0JzWaoY&feature=related

OK, I oughta check sometimes before writing off the top of my head. I was re-reading my post and something clicked in my head that made me look. The Bulldog went to the Giants all right, but then spent a year with the Mets before coming back to the Dodgers briefly. But I’m pretty sure about the others.

But you get my point, right?

North, that was a great song earlier! LMAO!! And “NO” to Zambrano, “SI” to Cliff Lee (I think he’s a free agent isn’t he?)

lbirken, FYI – simply put, a player is eligible for arbitration after being on a big league roster for 3 years (the exception being if he’s in the top 17 % of players who are between 2 and 3 years. Then he’s a Super 2 and eligible.) Once he’s been on a roster for 6 years, he’s eligible for Free Agency. I’m going to gamble with this one and not look it up. I’ll check back later tonight to see how many errors I’ve made. LOL!!!

Eric, eveytime I see that video I don’t know to laugh or cry. Don’t you just love the satin jackets?

Your point is well taken. Don’t forget, the Dodger philosophy about players was to get rid of them a year too soon rather than a year too late.

How much do you think Albert Pujols will get when he is eligible for free agency?

Eric,
I created a post in my blog with that video on an off day some months back. Everyone from the other blogs had fun watching it. During the 80’s tribute at Dodger Stadium I told Josh that maybe they should play that on the Dodger Vision but he said they thought about it but the video was not good quality to play it.
Fun stuff.

Dodgereric and Dodger4life – Just please remember I have to live with the wageree of this bet for the rest of my life – LOL!!. However, Dodger4life, once you have had THAT ice cream, you will be making wagers once a week, regardless of who is paying. Dodgereric – the next time you and Chris are up this way………..it’s a definite. Matthew has already experienced it.

On the serious side. I am just happy this particular group of young guns has managed to stay together this long and will hopefully play out this season like we wanted them to in the beginning, which hopefully ends with a WS Ring. I am fully aware of the business end of this sport, and, like all the other players that have come and gone, we all learn to adjust and move on to the next group of rising stars and veteran Dodgers.

northstateblues – That is a definite NO for Zambrano.

Nelly I will behave….I will probably just smile the whole time….
.
Eric I do understand the reality of this day and age…..
.
No to the Green Girdle!!!!
.
lbirken I apologize for not responding to your question earlier. I just stumbled across the ( Timmy the Kid ) thing, and thought ( What a resemblance. )
.
North as alway’s great job on the song.

I was just looking at MLBlogs latest leaders…..As little as we have commented lately, we still have way more comments then the current leader……Where is the rule book on this Josh????

eric, I’ve seen that video but it IS damn scary!!!!!!!!

Khali or anyone else have any idea’s on the post season staff??? The article on Kershaw being ready seems to hint at Wolf and Kuroda as 1 and 2. I wonder if during his rest or rehab if young Kershaw wasn’t studying a bit??? He seems quite anxious to get back out there, almost like a kid after christmas.
.
Here is the article, if you happened to miss it…..

Dodgereric – As you know, Youtube is restricted at school so I couldn’t see the video until just now. Damn you for introducing it to me – LOL!!! (jk). THAT is very scary.

Dodger4life – I know it’s been explained before how they keep track of the “standings so to speak” at mlblogs, but I forgot how they keep track. Obviously it has nothing to do with how often you are on the “Recent Activity”list on the mlblogs homepage because ITD is on that list 24/7.

So what you are saying is there is no rule book…..

Not that I need anymore evidence to make me more of an Ethieraholic, but the end of this article just did. It’s mostly about the Ethier/Bradley trade.

Thanks for the article Nelly…It was a good read, and it sounds as if Andre is real happy not only for the shot he recieved, but that he recieved it in Dodger Blue…..I said this after the loss to the Phillies last year that I liked his attitude. I also like the old school way of reading a player, maybe it is my nature. Outstanding work Mr. LaMacchia……

I just read the Andre/Bradley trade article over at the Dodgers website. Al LaMacchia, great person with a special talent in scouting players. He is a major reason why Andre Ethier is with the Dodgers right now…..THANKS Mr. LaMacchia.

LET’S GO DODGERS….LET’S CONTINUE OUR ROAD TO CHAMPIONSHIP!

Good Morning ITDland ~ Here’s hoping we continue our winning ways on the road.
.
GO DODGERS……..BEAT THE NATIONALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want revenge from those Nats so bad after what happen to us when we blew a 6-0 1st inning lead for Wolf and Kemp had a career day and not to mention we had a started the season haven’t lost a single game at home.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=290507119&teams=washington-nationals-vs-los-angeles-dodgers

Not to mention Wolf batting 8th and Pierre batting 9th. It doesn’t seem fair why we have to played them 3 up in Washington and only had them played 2 times at DS. I think we should bring back the 2 divisions and didn’t we used to played the other division 12 times and our own divison around 18 times. I really missed the old day when we had the Braves, Reds and Astros all in the same west division.

Sep 22, 2009 LA (Kuroda) @ WAS (Hernandez) 7:05 PM ET
Sep 23, 2009 LA (Billingsley) @ WAS (Detwiler) 7:05 PM ET
Sep 24, 2009 LA (Padilla) @ WAS (Martin) 7:05 PM ET

To bring back memory Manny did played that 1st games and in the 2nd games was suspended and that was bad timing on that part. The last time we played them they had Belliard (now with the Dodgers), Beimel (Rockies), Johnson (Marlins and never though he would get traded in the same division) and the impressive steak of Zimmerman with his 25th games hitting streak.

If it wasn’t for the Central Division the Braves would’ve had dominate and it look like the Braves can’t dominate that division no more.

I don’t know how they do that? We favor today and Thursday games and they favor tomorrow even with an 0-6 pitcher on the mound against a struggling Bills.

The funny thing is I gave my hubby money this morning. So, I think this Dodger fan (ME) paid for the ice cream – LOL!!!!

Good morning ITDers!

Happy 82nd birthday Tommy!
We Love you!
May you have many, many happy and healthy years!

Shad, maybe they are just going by the ERA from the pitchers last appearance. Bills was 10.80 and Detwiler was 1.80

We are on track to win 97 but I would like to see them bear down against Washington, Pittsburgh and San Diego and win 10 of the last 12 to achieve a 100 win season. Doesn’t really matter but it would look good in the history books.

It would behoove the Dodgers to return to Blue Heaven after next week with no less than a four-game lead, thus making the Colorado series moot. They begin today five up. Both teams play the Pods, but while the Rockies get the Cards and Brewers, Torre’s crew gets the Nats and Pirates. If they lose more than one game in the standings with that set-up, then they get what they deserve the final weekend at home.
