Homestand opener

The Pirates are in town for a three-game set…Jon Garland is starting tonight and going for his eighth straight season with 10 or more wins, which would be him in some pretty elite company in terms of active pitchers. The only guys with more are Javier Vazquez (10 seasons), Mark Buehrle and CC Sabathia (nine seasons) and Derek Lowe (eight seasons).

A free Dodger Dog for everyone in the house tonight…which explains why my office smells like Farmer John has been hanging out in here all day. On the opposite side of my wall is a concession stand and it’s a stronger waft than usual…

Here’s who’ll be backing Garland:

Furcal, SS

Kemp, CF

Ethier, RF

Manny, LF

Loney, 1B

Blake, 3B

Martin, C

Hudson, 2B

Garland, P

Josh, good luck with the hot dog smell!

I don’t want to hear any more talk about how the schedule favors the Dodgers. Those guys on the other side of the field are major leaguers and have no pressure on them. See the ball, hit the ball, catch the ball. What could be simpler? Just pretend those other guys are fighting for a playoff spot; the Dodgers seem to play better in those situations.

I doubt seriously Joe would use JP as a DH should the Dodgers be fortunate enough to need one. JP has been effective coming of the bench as a pinch hitter and clearly the reason Thome is on this team is to provide a power bat off the bench or as DH. The fact that he has been unable to make a contribution so far is a bit troubling and he probably will be a liability as a base runner. Still, let’s worry about this when the time comes.

I have been like a little kid since the 1st of September waiting for my Dodger Magazine to come in the mail, knowing our Dynamic Duo is on the cover. ………..and what finally……………….finally shows up? My Dodger Magazine with Andre and Matt on the cover. Not too happy it is ripped, but at least it was through the words “Dodgers” and not through Matt and Andre’s smile 🙂

    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!

I mean poor guys and I just heard Patrick Swayze passing away today. I used to watch him on Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Three Wishes and Youngblood.

  4. oldbrooklynfan

    Good Evening ITD.
On a sad note, I saw “Ghost” mainly because I love the NYC Transit system, but I came away from the movie, very touched by the fine acting of Patrick Swayze, there after, he was always a favorite of mine. May he rest in peace.
    .
The Pirates have two McCutchens the center fielder and the pitcher and our old friend Andy LaRoche and our whole starting team is in the lineup tonight with, according to my addition, 120HRs and 543 RBI.

  5. vl4ecc

The Bills had it in the bag, then gave it away.
That’s the Patriots. The Steelers, and Patriots are the luckiest teams in the NFL. More bounces go their way than the rest. They step in s**t, and come out smelling like a rose.

    GO DODGERS!!!
    GO RAIDERS!!!

I don’t know how I forgot to comment on Lastings Milledge, who I use to read allot about every morning when he was with the Mets.

  7. shad80

Actually it was Milledge that got Kemp out. I remember when he was a Mets he threw one of our guys out. I hope that a good sign for Furcal down the stretch and his hitting this month is good and that was a good inning for Garland.

  8. oldbrooklynfan

Good to see Garland get the kinks out.
    >
It strikes me funny when Scully says the McCutchens are not related. lol

  9. shad80

trueblue, Dodger offense up to its old tricks–rising (or NOT rising) to whatever occasion presents itself…RISP blues, over-anxious hitters….same old, same old…locked in a tough struggle with a seemingly over-matched team, and the longer the Pirates hang around……………………………..

  11. truebluewill

kahli ~ I thought so to until Hudson made that DP! That may be what we need to turn this game around. I think sooner or later the Dodgers are going to get to McCutchen.

    4-0 Giants!!!!

  12. nellyjune

…and why are they winning? ………..because I am not watching on television. I am stuck watching the gnat game and going back and forth between that and the Chargers/Raiders game.

  13. shad80

lol Garland PC at 112. Make me mad to see consider Wolf and Padilla had PC lower than that by 20+ something around the 6th.

  14. rx.xc.ka@gmail.com

Congrats to Scott Elbert and Dee Gordon for being the Dodger’s Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Year respectively. Go Dodgers and Giants (tonight)!!!!

  15. koufax1963

Wow Just got in. Very Cool. Rockies Lost. and we just about put this one away. Good to see Hudson hitting again.
Dre hooray! and Furcal steals a base with manny an RBI for !st inning run. Seems like April. Ha!
Nelly this might end your TV viewing of the Dodgers! Just Kidding.
    Go Dodgers. 4 up!

  16. perumike

Sorry nelly, I’m a Raiders fan, even though I haven’t had much to cheer about, but tonight I can cheer at least for now. Still about 3 min. left!

  17. nellyjune

perumike – I am a Redskins fan. However, Rivers is my quarterback for my fantasy team, and I just need one more point from him to win my first week – I am tied right now. As far as who wins the game…………….may the best team win tonight. My daughter is a Raiders fan 🙂

  18. nellyjune

koufax – the gnat game is over, so shhhhh!!! I am watching our game now. I think it is safe though……………I hope 🙂

  19. nellyjune

I just got two points – yeah!!!!! So, as Rivers as he doesn’t get intercepted, I won!!! I got killed by this guy last year so it’s good to get this first win against this particular opponent.

  20. trublu4ever

WAY TO GO DODGERS……ANOTHER WIN AND ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE DIVISION TITLE!!!!
    .
THE DYNAMIC DUO SHINES ONCE AGAIN
    .
GREAT TO SEE RUSSELL AND ORLANDO GETTING THEIR SWINGS BACK.
    .
    PITCHING WAS GOOD TONIGHT.
    .
    LET’S DO IT AGAIN TOMORROW!!!!!

  21. shad80

The Raiders got screwed on a TD’s should’ve been 24-24 in that awful bs called and they had to settle for a FG’s and the Patriots got lucky and I remember those old Patriots uniform and wow Federer lose.

  22. bluecrewgirl

Great victory tonight. It was good to see them score some runs again tonight. That makes 3 out of the last 4 games that they have had good offensive production. Andre only needs one more hr for 30. He and Matt have been getting a lot of much deserved press lately. They are both really fun to watch.

Nelly, my Dodgers Magazine came wrinkled and torn too. I really wish they would wrap them in paper or something. I’m not one to save magazines after I read them, but this issue is one I am going to save and it already looks like it’s been around the block. I looked on ESPN and Andre is hitting .455 against the lefty Duke and it’s a pretty good sampling. Pierre is hitting under .200 against him, so I would be shocked if Andre does not get the start tomorrow. I would love to see him get a multi hit game against a lefty to get him back in the groove against them going into home stretch. I thought the Chargers were going to blow it tonight. I am going to the game this weekend in San Diego. Should be fun. I think Rivers will do well for you on your fantasy team this season.

  23. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, I wasn’t sure if you knew, but they always have clips from the postgame interviews on Dodgers Live on Fox Sports.com after the games. Here’s a link. They have a clip of Andre’s postgame interview. It’s on the first page of videos right now, but as new ones get posted it will move of the first page, so you may need to scroll forward a few pages

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb

  24. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl – The dynamic duo is all over the place. I like the article in the magazine. It was great how they asked non-Dodgers about Matt and Andre. And then to ask a few fans. Boy, would I have loved to answer how I felt about Andre Ethier, #16, Right Fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I had Rivers last year too, and he did very, very well for me. I also had Chris Chambers and Antonio Gates, plus their defense, but I didn’t take them this time. The one thing I learned from last year is not to have too many players from one team because the bye weeks can kill you.

  25. nellyjune

Thanks Bluecrewgirl!!! For whatever reason they let us watch the entire post game show with Steve Lyons tonight. It’s weird how extra innings works sometimes. It even went into the UCLA news. It’s almost like they forgot to cut off the channel. However, I watched the interview again just now. Andre is really good about giving credit to his pitchers.

  26. shad80

After all the new acquired pitchers by team the past month Washburn is having the most problem and I’m so glad we didn’t traded for him. I still wish we had Martinez and I still can’t believe he’s finished with a PC at 130 couple of night ago.

  27. shad80

In Seattle, he’s given up 11 homeruns in 133 innings with Detroit but he’s given up the same number of homeruns in 42 innings. If Maddux would had 2 more wins he would had a nice 21 season with more than 10+ wins. I still think we should’ve gave him a 2 years deal when he left to go to the Padres the first time around in 2007.

  28. thinkingblue

GOOD MORNING ITD! Last night was just a great night. Dodgers Win – Dynamic Duo teamed up once again. And yup rare to say, but I am glad the GIANTS smashed the ROCKIES! Giants learned something from the Series against the Dodgers..LOL!
    *
For those in Gnats country and are having their Dodger’s Magazine damage (NELLY & TRU)….coincidence the damaged part is across Dodgers…I will complain to the post office. Hey those magazines can be worth something in the future. Protecting your investment!

  29. crzblue2

    Good morning ITDers!
Just checked the 2010 schedule! Dodgers go to Fenway Park June 18-20! Maybe work will send me to N.H. that week! Also Yankees at Dodger Stadium June 25-27! My bday 6/28 so is going to be a fabulous weekend!
    .
Dodger dog was wonderful last night! They did ran out in the Top Deck and this guy was telling me “Hey Emma, this guy is saying that they ran out of Dodger Dog.” I told him to go to the Reserved section. It was around the 6th or 7th inning. Don’t know why he was asking me.
    .
    Josh!!
So I am curious how many hot dogs they were given/sold last night?

I will definetely say Mon 6/14 to Thurs 6/17 and then I can stay in Boston! I am very excited about this. I’ve been to Fenway but I saw the Tigers there on a Friday night.

  31. crzblue2

Is so weird that the Dodgers will open the 2010 season with Pittsburgh on Monday 4/5, off on Tuesday then play Wed & Thurs. Opening Day at Dodger Stadium will be Tuesday 4/13 after a day off on Monday.
    .
Tonight is blanket night. Last night was the first time since Summer started that it got chilly so blanket will come in handy. Tomorrow is a day game on Manny 2nd BBH. Thursday is a day off but KABC is having a Golf day with players and also it is Dodger Day at the L.A. County Fair where Maury Wills, Ron Cey and others will be there with Ken Levine_co-host of Dodger Talk.

EMMA – I can’t believed they ran out of HOT DOGS!

  33. crzblue2

    TBW,
That is what I had heard first that the Dodgers were going to Yankee Stadium. I guess that has changed. I was going to try to go to Yankee Stadium next year if that is was the case.
    .
    Rosie,
That is what the guy told said that had two tickets. Plenty of picnic area ouside the stadium. I was remembering a couple of years ago when a few of us had a picnic in the offseason because we missed our Dodgers. We should have had a tour then and then the picninc.
    .
9/15. Happy Independence to my native Honduras! (188 years ago)
9/15 Happy Independence to Nicaragua and to Nicaraguan Vicente Padilla.
9/16. Happy Independence to Mexico and to Mexicans Fernando Valenzuela, Pepe Yniguez, Juan Castro and to Andre Ethier for his Mexican heritage.

The Dodgers played the Yankees in LA in 2004 they should be playing in NY this time. I’m disappointed, I’ve been waiting for them to come here to play the Yanks. Also they play the Mets 4/26-28. That’s to early in the season, to cold.

  35. knouffbrock@frontiernet.net

A couple of days ago I saw an article where Hudson said he would not be here next year. He was not being interviewed himself, so I have no idea if he was joking around or what?
    Does anyone know anything more?

  36. truebluewill

Nelly ~ I would love to come out there and meet everyone. My wife’s cousin lives in Burbank, so I have a place to stay.

  37. truebluewill

Also I’m hoping to see the Dodgers play the Mets here with Joe Pierre. I don’t know if any of you are coming east at that time, but that would be nice also.
