Battle by the Bay

The three-game set against the Giants kicks off tonight and I’m guessing some of you made the trip up north (or already live up there and will be showing your Dodger blue in the crowd).

The division lead is down to two games, but hopefully everyone is planning to be out here next homestand to help these guys bring home another NL West title. Free Dodger Dog Night on Monday, Fleece Blanket on Tuesday and Manny bobblehead for the Wednesday day game. Plenty of great stuff going on during the Pirates’ series before the Giants come back into town.

Also, for any of you golfers, KABC is hosting a golf tournament on the off day next week (Sept. 17) at Trump National and it benefits the USO. Celebs, former Dodgers, and possibly some currently players will be on hand so go swing the clubs at an incredible course for a great cause.

Here’s tonight’s lineup in San Fran:

Furcal, SS

Ethier, RF

Manny, LF

Kemp, CF

Loney, 1B

Blake, 3B

Belliard, 2B

Martin, C

Kuroda, P

Beck dies in plane crashComment Email Print Share Associated Press

ROCK HILL, S.C. — A North Carolina businessman who was a co-owner of the Charlotte Bobcats has died in a single-engine plane crash.

Authorities say 49-year-old William “Skipper” Beck of Charlotte, N.C., died in the crash around 7:15 a.m. Friday at a local airport in South Carolina just across the state line from Charlotte.

The York County coroner and the Federal Aviation Administration say Beck was the only person aboard the Cirrus SR22.

Witnesses say the plane returned shortly after takeoff but crashed as it tried to land and caught fire.

An Internet flight tracking site says the plane flew from New Jersey to Rock Hill on Wednesday.

Bobcats owner Robert L. Johnson issued a statement saying that Beck was instrumental in bringing the NBA team to the area.

Ouch Nate made a good catch on Furcal

Collie ~ sorry you didn’t get to go to the game but, it sounded like you had almost as much fun with the guys. Matt and Dre are both super nice guys and, I can just hear Andre laughing at your “Wifey” story!!!

  6. colliethec

    Hello there everybody!
    .
I just got back from The Phone Booth.
    .
I went to get autographs and if I happened upon a free ticket I was going to go but $$$ is tight so I had to pass at staying tonight. No free ticket so I went to get some Thai food to go and I’m here in time to watch the start of the game!
    .
I left at around 11:30 and got there at 12:15. I just missed Thome & Juanapy by about 10 minutes, who signed for everybody.
    .
I did however get Matty, Wolf, Dre, Russ, and Sherrill’s autographs.
    .
I got turned down or ignored by Brox, Elbert, Loretta, G. Mota, Bills, Padilla, Belliard, Bowa, and O-Dog. I also saw Torre but he took a limo into the parking area so wasn’t able to see him up close. I don’t mind getting turned down as long as they are cool about it. A couple of the guys had friends or family members with them so I didn’t even bother them. A couple just walked by looking down at their I-Phones as if there were really on them.
    .
Matty was really nice. He was having a fun time with everybody that was there chatting it up, taking photo’s. There was this one kid there (Maybe about 14-15 years old) who is deaf and has other disabilities and asks for photo’s with the players. He took one with Matt and then checked it said he needed another because it wasn’t a good one. Matt laughed and said here let me take it and took his camera from him and took a shot of them. He signed for everybody and was just so cool. He continues to impress me.
    .
Russ was pretty quiet. I told Dre the story about his walk off HR last year that split Wifey’s head open and told him he owed me $380.00 for the emergency room visit & he laughed. I told him Wifey spilt blood for him. He asked if it was blue and I told him no but that she was a fan.
    .
I asked Wolf how he was felling and he said ok. I told him he needed to get better that we needed him and he said not to worry. So… I guess he’s feeling better.
    .
Thanks for the autographs today if any of you guys are reading this!!!
    .
    Go Blue!!!!
    .
Bring the Ring to LA in 2009!!!!!

  7. colliethec

Hello there Tru. I hope you are well! Yes it was a fun day! I did get a little cooked again however. My sunscreen isn’t working to well the last month.
    .
I know Josh said the time problem is due to the amount of posts. There have only been like 25 posts on here. I’m thinking that MLB.com may of given Josh some bad 411.
    .
So I think it might be their server is having issues or something like that. Or it could be as someone mentioned before that there are now so many blogs that it has clogged the system.

  8. colliethec

I also like the lineup. I wish that Torre would stick with this lineup for a few days and see how it goes (Other than switch out O-Dog with Belly #2).
    .
It’s nice to have Blake back in the order.

  9. colliethec

I missed you guys today. Next year we need to all go and get some auto’s together. I think we’d have a great time!

  10. trublu4ever

Collie ~ I’d love to make it for the entire weekend! Good food, good shopping and of course, the Giants BEATen by LA!!!!

  11. colliethec

Yes we have to plan that. I heard that many of the players were shopping yesterday during their off day in Union Square.
    .
I enjoyed the many comments of the Giants fans as I was wearing my Blue. No bottles thrown in my direction however. ;)!!
    .
Let’s go Dre! You own The Phone Booth!
    .
    Throw on your cape!!!!

  12. nellyjune

Collie – Sorry you didn’t get to go to the game. However, I am very happy you got to tell your story about wifey to Andre. You gave him a taste of what some of us go through when he is in the game and does well for the Dodgers. Just by the videos I have seen of Matt, he seems like a fun guy to be around. That video of his tour of the administrative offices is hilarious.

  13. colliethec

Hello there Nelly. I need to watch that one.
    .
One of the guys thanked him for being cool. Kemp asked him what he meant and the guy said that he was having fun & basically other guys can be a bit grouchy.
    .
Kemp was like “how can you not have fun doing this!”. Every time I’ve seen him He’s been this way. He is just a fun guy who is enjoying life & it’s fun to see. He gave me a hard time because I told him how much fun it’s been watching him get better and mature in his game. He said that yes being mature is important & laughed. He seems like one of the guys who would be fun to hang out with.
    .
I heard that also Tru. Also on the Boche show before the game he said if they get runners on they are going to run on HK. He needs to continue to keep them off the bases.

I notice that Loney has been making some nice scoops with his first baseman’s mit,
Taking a lot of throws out of the dirt, saving a lot of bad throws from the infield.
    LOOKING GOOD.

  16. colliethec

    Hello there D4!
    .
Welcome back from another day of labor!
    .
    It was a fun day!
    .
I really needed it. Tough week.
    .
Work stunk and then had my pet snake die as well as have a funeral tomorrow for my friends Mom. She was the choir director at my church for years. She was a wonderful women and the world has lost a great person. She was very kind & caring & one of those that was just a real genuine, loving woman.
    .
Yesterday Wifey went to the funeral of her next door neighbor who was a nice guy as well. I only met him a couple of times but he made us a coffee table out of driftwood for our wedding gift. So there’s been some sadness around here & today was a much needed attitude adjuster.

SHORTSTOP DEREK JETER SINGLED IN THE THIRD INNING TO GIVE HIM 2,722 HITS AS A YANKEE, BREAKING LOU GEHRIG’S RECORD FOR MOST IN FRANCHISE HISTORY.

Nice want to see Kemp and Ethier break the Dodgers homerun total that is still lead by Karros right?

  18. colliethec

    Great AB by Dre.
    .
0-2 & then works the count & gets a single.
    .
Typical Dre. This team is fun to watch when they play the way they are capable of.
    .
From what I saw of them today I think they are all business right now. It seemed like there was a relaxed but focus from them today. Many of them came together on the buses. & they were all there earlier than usual.
    .
    Thome was there 1st @ 12:05.

Fabulous Raffy, Andre, Manny and Matt!!!!!!

  20. nellyjune

That was an awesome at bat by Andre, but I got submission errored as I was trying to post it the first time. He is getting back to where even his outs are productive because he makes the pitchers work their assss off trying to get him out.

  21. truebluewill

All right!! That’s the way to MOIDER the Jints! Let’s hear the chant now! BEATEN BY LA! BEATEN BY LA! BEATEN BY LA! BEATEN BY LA! BEATEN BY LA! BEATEN BY LA! BEATEN BY LA!

I’m sorry to hear about all the sadness Collie. It does sound like you had a wonderful time though.
    .
    9 -1 OUTSTANDING!!!!

  23. colliethec

    Thanks D4.
    .
I like it when we stomp someone Nelly. But no one more then the Giants.
    .
HK has really stepped it up tonight.

  24. nellyjune

Collie ~ I just read your post up above. Sorry to hear/read about your week. I hope next week is a better one for you. I am glad you had a day of fun today though.

  25. nellyjune

70 pitches in 7 innings, and the offense is getting the runs for Kuroda – this is Dodger baseball…………the Dodger baseball we saw at the beginning of the year. Not to mention it was against a top 5 pitcher in the league.

  26. truebluewill

Kuroda is back!! What a brilliant effort so far. He’s really pitching like a ace. I hope he can keep this up through the playoffs.

  27. kpookiemon

Golly gee, Batman, you couldn’t have drawn up this night on a chalkboard any better so far. And the Pods are one good Heath Bell inning away from a W.

  28. colliethec

Thanks Nelly. It was tough. Tomorrow will be tough but then hopefully it will be better. We are going to the OC soon so that will be awesome.

  29. oldbrooklynfan

That was the 2nd time this year that Kuroda completed 8 innings, this year.
    The other was for 8.2
Congratulations to him, a great performance.

  30. nellyjune

Bell just blew it for the Padres 😦

If the Dodgers take care of business like they did tonight, then we won’t have to worry about how the Rockies are doing.

  31. Dodger4life

It’s time to savor the sweet taste of the Victory Flask!!!!
    .
glug, glug, glug…and pass it around…
    .
    WAY TO GO DODGERS!!!!!

  32. truebluewill

That was a great win! What a way to start the series. Great pitching by Kuroda and we finally got the type of offense we were getting earlier in the season. Boy is this Dodgers team funny. When it looks like they are going to collapse, they bust out with a game like tonight. Then when I think they’re going to pull a way, they cool off. They’re certainly not making it easy on us.

With 2 out 2 strikes the Rockies get a bases loaded double to take a 3 run lead. Damn!

  33. dodgereric

Great game tonight by the boys. Clutch hitting, dominating pitching – well, by Kuroda anyway. I know, Troncoso was just throwing strikes. We sure didn’t look too promising, pitching-matchup wise going into the series. It would be nice to take 2 and great to break out a broom. It’s been a while since we did that to anyone.

I just read an article on Shoeless Joe Jackson:
    http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/article/2009-09-12/it-aint-so-about-shoeless-joe-2-lawyers-say

These guys say that their studies show that “It ain’t so” that Jackson threw the ’19 Series. Duh. He hit .375 in the Series. No one had a better batting average – for either team. He didn’t make an error. What more evidence do you need? He took money, he admitted that. But he did nothing on the field to throw a game. Is that enough to be banned for 90 years? I say no.

Jackson was a pretty simple good-ol’ country boy who was very naive about just about everything but hitting a baseball. He was railroaded by a vengeful Kenesaw Mountain Landis who would have banned his own mother.

Jackson belongs. The Hall is diminished without him. Not that I would EVER suspect Selig reinstating him because he hasn’t a single bone of integrity in his body.

  34. nellyjune

Collie – The boys will be able to sleep good in the City by the Bay tonight.

Dodger4life – Beav hasn’t done one of those in a while.

Dodgereric – That was a sweet win, and I would love a sweep, but I will take 2 out of 3 🙂 All is quiet here………….I let the scoreboard speak for itself.

  35. kpookiemon

Dodgers made a HUGE statement tonight. Can’t control what Colorado does. Kuroda asserted himself as the ace, just like last year’s playoffs. Let’s hope he stays healthy. No matter how they roll around in the dirt for the next 20 games, Dodgers will play Cards or Phils. Pick your poison. Rockies play the other guy.

  36. shad80

I was just checking out all the teams and where they ranked in gidp’s and that we’re ranked 4th in gidp with 126. The leader is Houston with 133 and I can’t believe their a team with only 76 (rangers), 2nd best is 79 (philies) and no surprise both of those teams are ranked 2nd and 3rd in homeruns.

  37. gagne85

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the Dodgers magic number to clinch a playoff birth is 16 and the magic number to win the division is 19.

  38. kpookiemon

crzblue, I want the Phillies right away, too….payback. No guarantee if Dodgers have to play Cards first. That means Dodgers have to win the division.

  39. trublu4ever

Hello ITDland ~ last night’s game was amazing….great pitching from Hiroki and timely hitting. I’m greedy, I want a repeat tonight! GO DODGERS….BEAT THE GIANTS!!!!!!

  40. shad80

“If I get hit by a bat, I think I’m going to retire,” Kuroda said through an interpreter. The pitcher was smiling when he said that.

    hahaha love that quote

Good Day ITD, Dodger Faithful, and Our Beloved Boy’s in Blue…
    .
What a fun game that was last night…..I personally thought that the bomb by Blake was paramount to the latter success.
Hiroki Kuroda and that phenomenal pitch count was something this group has been searching for….for sometime now, and ditching that broken bat by Cain was outstanding as well. Great performance from all last night. Thanks Boy’s winning a game against the Giants is Paramount in my book.
    .
Eric I was on my way to bed when I seen your post last night and now that I have thought about it a little..emphasize little…
Here goes…I think it is an unfortunate set of circumstances that surrond this event with Shoeless Joe….On one hands as you say his stats and record seem to say he didn’t start or finish the job of throwing a game or series, however he accepted payment from said unscrupulous characters. I do think that in todays game with the amount of onfield and off field money that can be earned this is less of a factor today. Players also have lawyers and the players association that defend their freedoms. Steve Howe and his drug problems come to mind. Today’s game is a different animal, problems do still exist and the need for punishment and banishment from the hall should alway’s be there. I do think that 90 years of being an example in these circumstances is enough. Under the right degree of light, given the problems facing baseball today I do think he should be forgiven. JMO!!!
    .
Game 2 tonight…..make us proud Boy’s …..Defend the Blue as they will be defending you tonight in the city by the bay!!!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS GO!!!!!!

Any school/city with that much tradition and history is just fun to watch. Any other game, I am all for USC, but this one I like to stay neutral and just watch it for the excitement.

BATTLE CREEK, MI (AP) – POP FOUND DEAD. Part of the beloved trio which included Snap and Crackle, Pop was found lying dead today in a pool of milk in the kitchen of his Battle Creek apartment. An autopsy has yet to be performed to determine the exact cause, but the deputy medical examiner on scene was heard to say it looked like a severe case of Montezuma’s Revenge – he was just too pooped to pop.

“I blame myself” said a distraught Crackle. “I should have know something was wrong when I heard, Snap, Crackle and Pfffft, but I just didn’t make the connection.” “Porky Pig, Hamm’s Beer Bear, Lambchop, and now Pop… I feel so bad at their passing when I feel so GRRRRREAT!” said close friend Tony the Tiger.

“Its going to be hard to find Pop’s replacement” said Snap, though calls from all over have been lighting up the Kellogg’s switchboard. Names mentioned include Sugar Bear, Dig’em Frog and the Trix Rabbit.

A public service will be held next Tuesday. Attendees are asked to bring their own spoons.

jpd – you need to repost on the new thread. LMAO!!!!! Did I say we are glad you are back :))))) Pop was my favorite. That is just so very sad. He will be missed by Snap and Crackle I am sure, and Rice Krispies won’t ever be the same again.
