Going for the San Francisco sweep

It’s been a little while since we broke out the brooms up north, but we have a chance to do that today. Lincecum vs. Weaver…on the surface, people will count us out because he’s the reigning Cy Young Award winner but given how well we’ve played the last two days, I’ll take our chances with this lineup:

Furcal, SS

Martin, C

Ethier, RF

Manny, LF

Blake, 3B

Loney, 1B

Kemp, CF

Castro, 2B

Weaver, P

According to Joe Torre, Orlando Hudson is available today if needed but with the off day tomorrow, he figured we’d give him the extra day off to get better.

LET’S GO DODGERS!!!! A lunch time special, I am ready for the sweep and the boost of morale before we head to snake territory. Oh how I love inter league play.
    .
    I love this team!

  2. trublu4ever

BEATen by LA…………………………BEATen by LA…………….BEATen by LA……………………BEATen by LA!!!!!

  3. trublu4ever

Thanks Joe Pierre (Oldbrooklynfan) for the best slogan ever….BEATen by LA…………………..FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. nellyjune

Let’s go for the sweep boys!!!! Getting the series is already great, but a sweep would make for some major bragging rights, not to mention just being incredible sweet to go into Pheonix with this kind of momentum.

    Dodgereric – fabulous marketing idea!

    GO DODGERS!!!!!!

  5. nellyjune

Sorry Eric – I didn’t realize I was in a time warp. However, I just realized you were new-threaded so I could have answered you from the previous thread instead of reading your mind again – LOL!!!!

  6. dodgereric

    Got new-threaded, so here’s a repost:

    *******JOSH********

    Here is a marketing no-brainer.

T-shirts bearing joepierre’s chant, “BEATen by LA!”

Proceeds to fund other long-time and far-away Dodger fans to visit Dodger Stadium.

Subject to joepierre’s approval, of course.

  7. boblee4014

Great idea Eric, Would really be a worthwhile cause. I’ve been a Dodger fan of over 60 years and a lot of fans are like me and have never visited Dodger Stadium. I see them when they come to play the cards but would a great experience for a lot of fans to see the Dodgers at home in LA

  8. crzblue2

    Good afternoon ITD blogmates!
What time exactly does the MLB audio start? I click on KABC but nothing happens. Thanks

  9. truebluewill

Just got home from work. I’m ready for a sweep.

    BEATen by LA!!……
    BEATen by LA!!……
    BEATen by LA!!……
Love that slogan by Joe. Put me down for a shirt.

    Hi Everybody,
Sorry I’m a little late, but got back before the first pitch.
    Didn’t miss anything.
Facing a good pitcher today in Tim Lincecum, but like anybody else, they have to give him they’re best shot.
    GO WEAVER —GO DODGERS!!!!!!

  11. shad80

I was going to be pissed if Weaver walk Molina and that would be his 7th walk of the season in some 379 ab’s and he’s last walk was July 20.

  12. lbirken@aol.com

Not looking for a loss today but if one does happen, I hope it is because the opposition just hit the ball better. I just can’t stand the walks/wild pitches beating us.

  13. thinkingblue

LEAVE IT TO WEAVER to screw up a SWEEP.
COME ON DODGERS…we need our SUPER HEROES BAT-men to the rescue!

  14. crzblue2

Uribe hit into a force play at the plate from Blake to Russ. Lincecum K’s. Bases still loaded but now two outs. Line into Matt Kemp’s hand Shaggy out of it!

  15. truebluewill

Great job by Weaver to WEAV his way out of that jamb.

dodgereric ~ Being a Dodgers fan living on the east coast I love your idea.

  16. kpookiemon

not only a NO HITTER…but a SHUT OUT. Sometimes you don’t even need to get hits to score runs…so I’m sure Lincecum is very happy with his SHUT OUT right now.

  17. northstateblues

almost thought Weaver would get a hit there. He believed it more than anyone else that inning.

Lincecum sure pitching a heck of a NO HITTER right now. That would really be something for a young guy to get a NO HITTER so early in his career.

Gee, would be a shame if something would happen to, say, jinx his budding NO HITTER, don’t you think?

  18. oldbrooklynfan

Scully mentioning all the Dodger fans at AT&T
I hadn’t see so many Dodger fans at Citifield as I saw this year, in years, in a N.Y. stadium.
    We’re all over.

  19. northstateblues

Yeah Crash, I said Lincecum has a NO HITTER going on right now… and it would be a shame if something jinxed his NO HITTER so early in the game.

  20. dodgereric

Did someone say that Lincecum has a no-hitter going?
It’s not really nice to say that someone has a no-hitter.
It’s taboo to say that someone has a no-hitter.
Because if you say that someone has a no-hitter, sometimes someone comes along and breaks up the no-hitter.

  21. truebluewill

oldbrooklynfan ~ I noticed that also this year at Citi Field. I think it had to do with the Dodgers playing so well and the first time for Manny as a Dodger in NY.

  22. selltheteam

Okay, here comes Lincecum bringing his NO-HITTER into the top of the fourth against the top of the Blues lineup.

  23. lbirken@aol.com

I noticed on TV a much larger and louder Dodger contingent than I ever recall.

Not a good day for a Giant no hitter, certainly not against the Dodgers.

  24. dodgereric

Boy, if I had a no-hitter I sure wouldn’t want people to be talking about the no-hitter that I was pitching.

  25. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Hey everyone… Good afternoon ITD’ers!! It’s gonna be a tough one today!!! Let’s pull off the upset!!

  26. dodgereric

Did someone say that Lincecum has a shutout going?
It’s not really nice to say that someone has a shutout .
It’s taboo to say that someone has a shutout .
Because if you say that someone has a shutout , sometimes someone comes along and breaks up the shutout.

  27. nellyjune

It was me!!! I walked into my room, and Andre got the hit to ruin Tim’s no-hitter as I turned on the TV. I didn’t realize until then he had a no-hitter going.

  28. lbirken@aol.com

Well, that was a great moment waiting to happen with Ramirez vs. Lincecum at phone company park. Too bad it ended the way it did but it must have been loud there.

  29. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

this is the kind of game that a homer is going to happen to win the game… You can just tell…. That or someone will make a mistake.

  30. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

I’m afraid the most we can give up today is a run… and still have a chance as long as Lincecum is in the game

  31. dodgereric

Come on you stupid Gints. GameDay says it was a changeup. You don’t intimidate with offspeed pitches! Freakin’ little babies…..

  32. colliethec

The announcers in SF think that Martin should of been tossed because he was more active than anyone and he threw the mask.
    .
    These guys are idiots!!!

  33. trublu4ever

This is just what we need to fire up our boys! Look out, we are going to kill them the next time through the lineup! GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. truebluewill

What the bleep is wrong with Sandoval. That pitch was not that far inside. It was a foul ball. I only wish Drysdale was still pitching then Sandoval would know what it’s really like to be hit by a pitch. That panda belongs in the SF zoo.

  35. nellyjune

What did I miss? I was in a meeting. I missed something good, didn’t I? I always miss the good stuff!!!!!

  36. dodgereric

Did someone say that Lincecum has a win going?
It’s not really nice to say that someone has a win.
It’s taboo to say that someone has a win.
Because if you say that someone has a win , sometimes someone comes along and breaks up the win.

  37. dodgereric

This is one game where I don’t mind Torre blowing thru the pen.

lbirken, earlier you said that I might have to pitch in this one. I’m more than willing, but I don’t think I can throw hard enough to make it hurt anymore.

  38. colliethec

There we go again… Get a run & some momentum and walk the lead off batter the next inning. The pitcher to boot…

  39. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Honestly, I’m just glad we’re in the game… That bases loaded no one out situation could have been bad, they’ve not had a big hit and neither have we… We really need Lincecum to make a couple of mistakes, so far he’s really only made one…. He’s damn good, if we win I’ll be really happy obviously, but I won’t be surprised if he beats us.

  40. nellyjune

Our pitchers are doing a great job of keeping us in this game. I am sure the gnat fans and media thought this game was a given because their “only hope” was pitching today.

Collie – I thought you were going to this game?

  41. selltheteam

Damn this time warp…… at the risk of repeating myself:
    .
This game is far from over. Bring out the brooms. We want a sweep. SWEEP!!!! SWEEP!!!!! SWWWEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!

  42. oldbrooklynfan

This kid Lincecum, is tough, but you never know.
If the pen can keep it where it is, anything can happen, but it’s tough on the road.

  43. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Well, I was hoping at least Loney was getting that walk, because then it’d help in the bottom of the ninth with maybe getting Manny up.

  44. lbirken@aol.com

We were taking about what it means to be called an “ace” of a pitching staff and one trait I forgot to mention is an ace often gets stronger as the game progresses. Of course, many teams have an ace on the staff but the team still does not win anything.

  45. northstateblues

Just got back from listening to KNBR San Francisco in the car while the girl had an interview. I used to defend Jim Miller a bit… felt bad for the guy for having to spend his weekends in a booth with that windbag Joe Morgan… No more, though.

This was his account of the bench-clearing events.

“MacDonald throws inside to Sandoval… now Sandoval charges the mound, shouting at MacDonald… Martin’s getting lively, and Velez goes over to jaw at him. Now the benches are clearing, two Dodgers keeping Martin away, Sandoval’s still hot…

Now the sides leave the field, and Joe Torre is having a conversation with the umpires, probably about ejecting Sandoval and Wollomes (sp?) comes out too… the umpires usher Wollomes away from the field, and the umpires are having their own conference…

And they eject Sandoval!!! How can they do that? He didn’t even charge the mound! Went up the first base line more than anything… Sandoval was hit by the pitch!!! [note: The first words out of Miller’s mouth were about Sandoval “Charging the mound”, and nowhere to this point had he mentioned a HBP, only a pitch inside, with a good 3-5 seconds silence before saying Sandoval charged the mound]

If anything, they should’ve ejected Martin, he was making the most noise out there! …

And Sandoval steps in the batter’s box… ball 3… MacDonald winds up, ball 4, and in two pitches, Sandoval ends up where he should have been in the first place.”

What the funk??? Worst job I’ve EVER heard calling a sporting event on the radio… Turned around and made an *** out of himself after Sandoval got ejected, saying a bunch of stuff he didn’t mention previously, classic Jerry The King Lawler stuff there. Doesn’t even mention that Sandoval was not ejected after all, just calls the game like nothing happened.

Wonder how many yards of fabric San Francisco has to use to make Jim Miller’s cheerleading skirt? probably more than Kruk and Kuip combined…

  46. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

It’s John Miller northstateblues… But yes, I agree.. it’s tiresome to hear stuff like that… and I thought Sandoval for sure should have been ejected for starting the whole thing… No way JMac was throwing on purpose.

  47. dodgereric

I’d bet my house that if Torre was managing the Giants that he’d hit for Lincecum and bring in the closer for the ninth.

Did someone say that Lincecum has a win going?

    And fielding flawlessly
I’d like to see Juan’s butt on the bench

And watch them bring us to the promised land
    A seventh world series win

AND THAT IS WHY THE SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS ARE NOT CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. colliethec

It gets old. The calls haven’t gone their way but they would be complaining even if they were. They are the worst in baseball from what I’ve heard. I have gameday as well as the extra innings package so I get to listen to lots of different ones and they just grind to listen to.
    .
The next worse are the White Sox announcers.

  59. truebluewill

What a classic Giant – Dodgers game! The key play of that inning was Raffy tagging up. That was a gutsy play. Imagine if he would have been called out. Raffy can’t get enough credit for that.

  60. colliethec

I really hope they don’t score here as it would be a LOL moment for him to watch it and have it not go out and then end up @ 2B instead of 3rd. Then not score.
    .
    It would be nice.

  61. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

Man… you had to feel like Blake would strike out against Wilson after the ordeal those two had

  62. colliethec

If we could some how get this game it would be a HUGE kick in the Giants groin and could throw them for a spin for the year.
    .
Those sunglasses look good on the bill of his cap don’t you think…

  63. lbirken@aol.com

I know a lot of you had pretty much resigned yourself to a tough one run loss today to one of the best pitchers in baseball, still taking 2 of three from the Giants. How do you feel about that now? Losing now throws away a huge opportunity not only to put more space between the Dodgers and the Giants (and possibly the Rockies as well) but also sends a message that the Dodgers still are the team to beat. Remember last season when the Dodgers went into Arizona and beat their best pitchers? That is what it takes to win a championship.

  64. lbirken@aol.com

I know Joe planned on pitching by committee today but I don’t think this is what he had in mind. Eric, are you warming up?

  65. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

If we don’t score this inning… It’s crucial we hold them in the bottom, because then we’re past both Lincecum AND Wilson… Not sure who they’d have left

  66. trublu4ever

Thanks Joe Pierre (Oldbrooklynfan) for the best slogan ever……………..BEATen by LA………FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

lead off walks!! argh!!! That might be the game…. Not getting discourged… I’m just saying… those KILL!! especicially in extras!!

  70. nellyjune

Collie – we still got the series. It’s all great. It could have been fantastic, but I will take great. Once again, they fought back with one of the best pitchers in the league. Alot of credit goes to our pitchers for keeping it within reach the whole game.

  71. brandondaughrity@hotmail.com

oh well… this is one I did not expect to win eithr way…. But, we had a great series and almost stole the last game!! Off day tomorrow, then we can beat up on the D-Backs

  72. colliethec

Oh well. Time to listen to the Giants post game announcers talk about how great their team is.
    .
That one is on me. I got up from the couch to do the dishes. I was trying not to get up ever since the top of the 9th but I needed to get some chores done. Sorry guys.

going to work in half an hour, still happy we took this series and gave the Jints a shock to their nervous systems

  77. lbirken@aol.com

Tough game to lose, not that the Dodgers had a lot of opportunities. But the game was there and the walks had a lot to do with why the Dodgers did not win today even with some breaks. I hope the Dodger players enjoy a day off tomorrow and come back strong against the D’Backs.

  78. truebluewill

As I said before a classic Giant – Dodger game. the important thing was to win the series and we did that. Also the bats came alive. At least there ace Tim Pondscum didn’t get the win.

  79. selltheteam

Youkulis and Porcello get suspended for 5 games actually Porcello really didn’t do nothing and no suspension to Fielder for charging or locker room.

  82. kpookiemon

Let’s hope Bochy keeps running up Lincecum’s pitch count…for future dividends! Andre keeps impressing. To quote a movie, I think the Dodgers got their groove back. I expect they will take care of business in Arizona…though Haren starts Friday night vs. Kershaw.

  83. koufax1963

    Hi ITD,
Kept quiet during the series because Monday afternoon I was concerned about getting swept, till just this afternoon going for a sweep. It was sweet to watch this series. WE played this one tough, never out of it, and we didnt let Lincecum get the win! I just don’t understand why Torre didnt let weaver pitch longer and can some body tell me why Bochy was tossed in the 2nd inning. Those Giants are really uptight, I guess when you expect to sweep and you nearly get swept it causes some “anxiety”. Geez
Too bad about kou and walking in that run it looms big in the loss, but Im happy we pick up a game on the rivals after all is done. I see those gnats fans are invading the MLB game post, as expected, but hey Im not going to engage their sour puss lips, the series is done, and yea they didnt face our aces either, so till our next meeting I let the scorboard say it. Time for cold one on a hot day and enjoy! That everyday Dre sure delivers the package!, I wish we could spread the heros out more (like if martin’s shot to center in the 9th went all the way) but I look forward to stomping AZ, haren vs. kershaw sounds like a good game.

  84. koufax1963

Nelly I PLAN on IT! and more, Blake will get it going , Loney shows the slump is gone, too. Go Dodgers! Glad you made it to the park, my daughter saw the Tuesday game. It got very quiet in her section in the 4th! But she missed the Manny HR.

  85. aeversw

Andre is 11 for 21 with 12 RBIs this season in the ninth inning or later with his team tied or down by two runs or fewer.

  86. edwcarter

Hey everyone! I know I don’t post much, but I am a faithful reader and love to read what you all have to say everyday. That being said….I just want to say that the Giants are dumb heads and I hate em. Now I feel much better!

  87. nellyjune

Hey edwcarter!!!!! It’s good seeing you on ITD again, and I am glad you got that off your chest.

aeversw – That is a pretty impressive number for Andre – Thanks for sharing.

Koufax – I can only imagine how the Giants’ fans felt yesterday for those at the game. All the Giants fans I ran into before today’s game pretty much said “I don’t want to hear it”

However, after today’s game, it’s all about how they beat us, not recognizing the fact that we took the series and we prevented their star from getting his 13th win (Andre being responsible for that and squelching his no-hitter). That is the big difference between us and them. The Giants are all caught up into the fact that they got this one game. We Dodger fans have already moved on to the series against the dbacks.

  88. edwcarter

All great points Nelly. This Giants team has surpassed the expectations of everyone (including their own fans), and in my opinion it is only a matter of time before we witness a “Giant Meltdown”. They have started of the second half of the season 13-13, far less impressive than before the break. It is time for Barry Zito to remember that he is Barry Zito….

  89. selltheteam

We’ve moved on in pursuit of a seventh world championship. They are just happy about winning a single game. That’s the difference.

  90. nellyjune

edwcarter/crash – The one radio host I was listening to on the way home today said the only difference between us and them is Manny. That Manny is the best hitter on the planet, and they should have really tried to go after him. He also said that the Dodgers pursued winning back before spring training while the gnats pursued winning three weeks ago. He went on to say that their next 11 games on the road will make or break them. I wish some of their radio hosts would take over the announcing job for their team. At least they look at their team realistically most of the time.

There are only two weeks until rosters expand and the Dodgers’ bullpen can finally catch its breath. Torre’s obsession with J. Martin defies all logic. Spock would raise an eyebrow. Martin’s a great player having a crummy year. Why wedge him in the two-hole just to delay Andre and Manny…what’s the point? Torre has to find the guy to protect Manny. At this point in the season, more by default, the last two candidates standing are Kemp and Hudson. No one else has stepped up to the job except Ethier.

Did the world end? Nobody with anything to say today? Concerning the benches clearing brawl (from Boston Herald.com):
For one, Lincecum was one of the first out of the dugout, ready to rumble. “That’s my team, I go out there,” he said. “If it was me, I would expect my teammates to have my back.”
All I can say is he has a big heart…but perhaps a small brain. I’m sure Sabean would have loved to see Lincecum throwing haymakers with his Cy Young right arm.
