One city, two stadiums
Had a really cool morning this morning at “the other” new stadium here in New York. Of course, that’s all depending on who we’re playing at the time, but we’re here at Citi Field, so the other one is New Yankee Stadium.
Jaime Jarrin had asked if we could take a tour of the new stadium in the Bronx, so a former Dodger employee took us around and showed us the new place and it’s pretty darn impressive. Very classy with lots of great attention paid to the team’s history – incredible photos everywhere…Monument Park is equally as impressive as at the old park and their Hall of Legends is imposing. At $1.5 billion, you can imagine that no expense was spared in making the place look good.
Meanwhile, back here at Citi Field, Cory Wade is here to take the spot of Ronald Belisario, who is getting checked out in Los Angeles. Here’s hoping they don’t find anything too bad with his elbow.
A nice victory last night and coincidentally, it was a flip flop of our first-ever game at Shea. We lost that one 8-0 and won this won by the same score.
Will try to post the lineup whenever it gets put up and will try to go say hi to Joe Pierre at tomorrow’s game.
LINEUP UPDATE:
Furcal, SS
Hudson, 2B
Manny, LF
Blake, 3B
Loretta, 1B
Martin, C
Ethier, RF
Kemp, CF
Kuroda, P
Thanks for the new thread, Josh.
.
Let’s make it two in a row over the Mets.
.
GO DODGERS………………DODGER BLUE THRU & THRU!!!!!
Getting ready to leave soon for the ballpark. Hopefully we can build on last night. O. Perez had a shaky rehab we should be able to knock him around.
And, please keep voting for Matt. We just CANNOT have another Philly or even worse Giant in the game!
Josh – Thanks for the new thread!!!! That would be great if you got to see Joe Pierre tomorrow.
truebluewill – I hope you have great time at the ballgame again today.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!
Thanks nellyjune. I’m going with a group 21 co-workers and I’m the only Dodger fan. So if we win it will be especially sweet.
JOSH thanks for the updates. I do hope that there is nothing wrong with Bellisario’s elbow. And I hope we win again tonight and that Manny does not get some boggous call and then kicked out. That just was NOT fair.
*
So with that in mind….LET’S JUST SWEEP THE METS!
*
Well I am out to do more VOTING FOR KEMP!
Well, then truebluewill, we will send some extra ITD power your way for extra luck in tonight’s game. Hopefully they put on a good game for you with a nice win like they did yesterday 🙂
Keep voting for Matt Kemp!!!!
Thanks for the extra power. Talk to you tonight after the game. Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!
Date: July 7, 2009
Time: 6:20 pm EDT
Place: Citi Field, home plate
.
Joe Torre: Okay, John, here’s my lineup card.
John Hirschbeck: Thanks, Joe, now I’ve gotta get the same from the Mets.
Joe: Say, John, just one other thing.
John: What’s that, Joe?
Joe: It would help me considerably, if you could just do this one thing for me?
John: What’s in it for me?
Joe: I’ll buy you pizza after the game.
John: Okay, Joe, what is it?
Joe: Well, we got this guy with rubbery legs, ya see.
John: Yeah, I heard.
Joe: We got another guy who can’t wait to get in the game, ya see.
John: Yeah, I know him.
Joe: Well, the one guy gets embarrassed when I pull him too early.
John: How does this involve me?
Joe: Well, if you could kinda call him out on strikes that aren’t quite strikes.
John: Yeah, sure, and then…
Joe: Yeah, then when he gets upset, toss him. Around the middle of the game.
John: Yeah, sure, and that’s with anchovies, okay?
LOL!!!! That’s good Crash!!!!
Loretta must have gottent the lucky dart today…..batting 5th? ….and why is James getting the day off? His legs are working just fine – LOL!!!!
Nelly – Strictly a lefty/righty issue as Perez is very poor against righties. But I agree on the 5-hole. Why not Kemp or Ethier? Loretta has no power.
Keep voting for Kemp – deadline is 1 pm Pacific time tomorrow.
Just got email that Kemp remains in 4th place. .. Well, back to voting.
Gotta love the way this was worded in the L.A. Times this morning:
“Fears that Dodgers management had about how the bullpen was being used were realized Tuesday when workhorse reliever Ronald Belisario returned to Los Angeles to get an MRI exam on his right elbow.”
Joe, you’ve been thrown under the bus!!!!!!!!! And deservedly so, though Ned has to take a bit of the blame with the stiffs he assembled for you. Like I said yesterday, Joe’s scorecard now reads Wade (sore shoulder) and Belisario (sore elbow), both from over work. How the heck did Mariano Rivera survive Joe? A testament to Rivera’s physical make-up! Broxton and Troncoso, be very afraid…..
Casey Blake won’t get a pitch to hit all night, not with sweet LorettaMartin following him in the order.
Maybe he’s in fourth place because somebody keeps insisting on batting him eighth??
Joe torre hates Matt Kemp.
Quote from LA Times 6/22/09
Asked if Kemp was hitting lower in the order than some people might think his numbers warrant, Torre said, “That’s why the people who look at the numbers don’t make the lineup.”
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
No, we’ve got the freaking genius Torre making the lineup.
Well, I guess Joe put us in our place, didn’t he? Is it going to stop us from saying anything – nah!
Hey Nelly – G’nats losing 4-0 to Fish in the 8th.
Just for laughs, here’s yesterday’s batting order for Kemp’s opponents in the “Final” voting:
Guzman 6 hole
Reynolds cleanup
Sandoval 3 hole
Victorino 2 hole
Thanks for the update Crash ~ Last I checked, it was 3-0. Go Fish!!!!
Glad to see that slugger Loretta batting 5th!!! Woo hoo! Well, back to work and voting!
I think all of the Bigelow Green Tea Joe has been drinking finally rotted his brain!
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Former NFL star Steve McNair(notes) was shot dead in his sleep last week by a 20-year-old girlfriend distraught about mounting financial problems and her belief that he was seeing someone else, police said Wednesday.
Sahel Kazemi “was spinning out of control” when she shot McNair four times as he dozed on a sofa early Saturday, then turned the gun on herself, Police Chief Ronal Serpas said.
Interviews with friends revealed that she was making payments on two cars, her rent was doubling and she suspected the married McNair was having a second affair with another young woman, Serpas said.
Police earlier had labeled McNair’s death a homicide, but waited for further tests and the revelations about Kazemi’s personal problems before concluding that she pulled the trigger of a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol in a condominium McNair rented with a friend.
McNair, 36, a quarterback for the Tennessee Titans most of his career, met Kazemi six months ago at a sports cafe where she was a waitress and his family often ate. She seemed happy and eager to build a life with him, but something went wrong.
“We do know that she was clearly sending a message during the last five to seven days of her life that things were going bad quickly,” Serpas said, though there was no indication she told anyone she planned to harm McNair.
Serpas said detectives learned that Kazemi recently found out about another young woman she thought McNair was romantically involved with and had even followed that woman home, though she did not confront her.
Serpas said police believe McNair was asleep when he was killed because there were no defensive wounds. After shooting McNair in the head, Kazemi apparently shot him twice in the chest before shooting him again in the head.
Before shooting herself, she sat next to his body and “tried to stage it so she would fall in his lap,” Serpas said. She did, but her body slid to the floor and ended up at McNair’s feet. The gun was found underneath her.
Kazemi’s family told reporters that the woman was so confident McNair was divorcing his wife of 12 years that she was preparing to sell her furniture and move in with him.
But associate Mike Mu, who has worked with McNair’s charitable association for years, said earlier Wednesday that McNair’s wife, Mechelle McNair, “didn’t know who this girl is.” No records of divorce proceedings have surfaced. The McNairs have four children.
Two days before the shooting, police stopped Kazemi driving a Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicle that McNair had given her for her birthday in May.
According to an arrest affidavit, Kazemi had bloodshot eyes and alcohol on her breath. She refused a breath test and told an officer “she was not drunk, she was high.” She was charged with DUI. McNair was with her but not charged. He later made her bail.
Police are awaiting toxicology reports on both bodies.
Serpas said that even though both her name and McNair’s were on the Cadillac’s title, she was apparently responsible for making payments. She was also making payments on another car after she couldn’t sell it.
Kazemi had no history of violence, but “on the last several days of her life it’s obvious that she made some very poor decisions,” Serpas said.
Mechelle McNair has not spoken publicly since the shooting. Bishop Joseph W. Walker III of Mount Zion Baptist Church, which the McNairs have attended since moving to Nashville in 1997, said Wednesday that she is doing as well as can be expected.
“Her faith is what’s sustaining her now,” he said. “We haven’t talked about the circumstances of his death. She is processing it in a private way. It’s obviously devastating on so many levels.”
A memorial service is set for Thursday night in Nashville, with the funeral Saturday in his native Mississippi.
The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback was being remembered Wednesday at the stadium where he played much of his career. The Tennessee Titans opened LP Field for fans to watch video highlights of McNair’s 13-year NFL career and look at photos of the quarterback. There was also a book for them to write messages that will be given to the family.
McNair was known as “Air McNair” for his passing prowess at Alcorn State in Mississippi. In 2000, he helped lead the Titans to the Super Bowl, where they ended up a yard short of a touchdown on the last play of the game when they trailed by seven points.
He spent the last two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens before retiring from the NFL last year.
Associated Press Writers Travis Loller, Joe Edwards, Kristin M. Hall and Teresa M. Walker contributed to this report
Are you kidding me?
Fish fillet the gnats 7-0.
Now back to something important voting for Kemp nonstop.
I have 7 different windows open for the voting thing but it might still be slow. I wish when you enter the validation key and click vote not it would direct you back to the validation key again instead of vote again.
Another odd sports story today – ex Mets/Phillies Lenny Dykstra files for bankruptcy.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ak4RDxTEl76CxqT3isSjByo5nYcB?slug=ap-dykstrabankruptcy&prov=ap&type=lgns
What was strange about that was that Dykstra was holding himself out as a big financial advisor, dealing particularly in advice about trading stock options. I hope too many people didn’t take him up on it, especially for pay, since his personal financial problems no doubt say a lot about his financial acumen.
Even from where I’m sitting tonight (Hillsboro TX), Joe’s still an idiot.
If you HAVE to play Swetta, why does he have to bat 5th? That’s just plain stupid.
BTW, that’s about all there is to do in Hillsboro TX – swetta – 102. May be a tad muggy too.
Later people.
Hi there ITD
I won’t be attending tonight’s game as I have another commitment but I will be joining you on ITD sometime during the game.
As soon as I get back, I’ll turn on the game on SNY and logon to the blog.
Man that was some game last night and I was happy to see more Dodger fans than I’ve seen in Queens, in about 20 years.
Three things most likely accounted for that, namely Manny, Joe Torre and the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team presently with the best record in baseball.
Some were even comparing them to the ’96 Yankees.
I also met up with our fellow ITDer Truebluewill and his friend.
TOMORROW NIGHT, I can be found FIELD LEVEL, right between home and 1st base in SEC 114 ROW 19 SEAT 17.
enchanted – Glad you made it there safely. 102 ain’t so bad…..complain, complain, complain…. LOL!!! (jk)….now, Joe, you can complain all you want – LOL!!!!

Should had Dewitt at 3rd and Blake 1st since Dewitt has 4 of his 10 career homeruns and hitting .370 against the Mets.
Being one of the idiots who DOES look at numbers, here’s what Kemp has done in the different slots so far in 2009:
Batting 1st – hasn’t yet
2nd – 1 game, 3 Plate Appearances, .000 BA
3rd – not yet
4th – 5, 22, .158
5th – 5, 24, .190
6th – 16, 73, .254
7th – 39, 165, .313
8th – 12, 42, .474
9th – 4, 12, .545
Being an idiot numbers guy, you’d think I’d be saying to bat him as low in the order as possible. But what are his career numbers?
1st – 45 games, 206 PAs, .302
2nd – 44, 170, .278
3rd – 50, 227, .354
4th – 11, 32, .286
5th – 34, 113, .210
6th – 70, 295, .276
7th – 73, 290, .298
8th – 28, 97, .368
9th – 32, 45, .400
Know what I see? I see a guy who’ll produce anywhere in the lineup, is fast and will hit with power. This numbers idiot would bat this team like this:
Furcal
Kemp
Ramirez
Ethier
Blake
Loney
Hudson
Martin
Oh, I know – “Kemp’s not patient enough for the 2-hole.” But Furcal isn’t running that much anymore anyway. And I’d really like to see what he can do in front of Ramirez. God help the National League. All I know is batting Kemp 7th or 8th is costing him an at-bat every game. That’s costing him about 50 hits over a full season (50 for 162 is a .309 average).
But then, what do I know? I’m just a numbers guy. Show me where I’m going wrong in my thinking, Torre.
We’ll be looking for you oldbrooklynfan. It looked like Manny hit a foul ball in the stands near you were sitting last night. Did any balls come close to you?
Tomorrow, this will be your view from the stands:
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/478/obfview.jpg
Interesting the Blue Jay released BJ Ryan poor guy.
Hey enchamted! It’s one of our cooler days in the middle of Washington state – 76 right now, but Joe is still an idiot.
It’s good to have some consistency – whether the temperature rises or falls, you can always count on Joe being an idiot. Fortunately our guys manage to hit wherever they’re placed in the lineup with the exception of Swetta, who’s just a ball tapper instead of a real swinger and possibly getting even worse than Sweeney, heaven forbid.
Stay cool, enchanted and enjoy the game tonight.
What are the chances that Ned picks up Ryan?
Eric, I like your lineup. Kemp is a threat to steal if he gets on putting him in scoring position for Manny. Hudson does not run much so he would be fine lower down in the lineup.
Good Job on those numbers dodgereric. My thoughts were always with the number of at-bats lost when he is that far down in the lineup and that is not including at-bats taken away for while sitting for JP.
red pen – “from him” not “for”
Way to go Loretta, you wussy! Kemper would’ve delivered a 3-run dinger there.
Nice job by Loretta hitting that low pitch. It was not a mighty blow but it got the job done.
I guess Joe worked his magic that inning 🙂
Well, a stopped clock is right two times a day.
That’s exactly why he should be hitting 3rd.
Don’t you just hate it when after all the complaining about the lineup, especially when a bench player gets a start, and that player delivers a key hit/rbi? I know this does not change anyone’s argument but it seems with Joe this sort of thing has happened quite often this season.
You guys notice that Donald Trump is sitting behind the plate? Maybe he can speak his magical words to a couple of people in our organization? 🙂
You would think yahoo would fixed that hat on the Odog and still look crazy he still have the Dback hat and Sheffield still have the Tiger hat.
What magical words would you like Trump to say?
“You’re Fired!!!” Ned, and Joe?
Oh Rats!!! I was praying that Andre would do something good instead of dropping to the lowest batting average in the lineup. Of course, he must be the best .250 batter in the league.
But, Come On, Andre.
I hated when I enter the validation # wrong. i got 15 minutes to vote b4 I hit the road.
Ouch who that damn coach in Seattle bring in Aardsma in a none save situation? Thanks alot for messing up my pitching stats.
Oops is was a save opp.
Yeah I hate that to emma.
red mark ; I hate it. Well, I’ll vote when I get home in about 2 hours.
Gosh I hate infield single if it not us but a bad way to break the Mets scoreless streak.
Good Evening ITD, Dodger Faithful…..
.
Let’s Go Dodgers, Let’s Go!!!!
Perez is scare of Blake.
Let him walk you Loretta
Wow 7 straight balls.
Urgh all those walks and we still have 1 run. This is a recipe of disaster.
Damn come on Kuroda.
Looks like another long night for the Dodger bullpen unless the bats come alive.
Damn Wright was 0 for 15 and 1 for 24 and he still a Dodger killer.
For the amount of money Kuroda makes, he pretty much sucks. He might be worth a 5th starter slot, but he’s fallen a long ways from being a starting day pitcher.
Suckroda!
It seems to me that most of the Mets hits were ground balls that found their way through the infield. They all could have been outs if they were hit just slightly left or right. It would be nice to see Kuroda get a few key strikeouts though.
If that’s what it takes, I’m going to tell Suckroda that he sucks every inning. That was a very good inning in response, Kuroda.
Bear, I think that is being a bit harsh on Kuroda but no doubt he is struggling tonight and still may not have recovered 100% from the injury.
You don’t see that often a players flying out to center 3 times in a rows.
Good evening all.
An ERA over 8.75, giving up 7 walks, and over 100 pitches through 5 innings, and he’s still in line for a win.
UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
yeah lets bring in a guy whos struggled all year to face two lefties with the bases loaded and 1 out great idea. This would have been a perfect time to use Leach but I guess Joe would rather save him for when the game is out of hand. I hate Joe Torre.
Stick a fork in Perez. He’s done. I hope they can get to their bullpen.
Josh, whats with the new Dodger billboards that feature celebrities? Why not put the players on them? You know the people that actually play on the team! I guess the Dodgers are trying hard to lure the rich, dumb superficial fans. Awesome!
Urgh not this 1st and 3rd with 2 outs and we not going to scored. Come on Manny launch one.
I guess not
It should’ve been less than 1 out but oh well.
Looks like were on the losing end of this game at the moment.
Have no fear, Joe Pierre is here.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!
Mota ERA is just slowing going down and I wonder what Honeycutt did to him?
Kemp makes it look so easy playing CF some times.
I’ve done my part, voting to the max for him to make it to the All Star game. I hope everyone else on ITD has also.
VOTE FOR KEMP!!!
Damn Martin wish we had that hit in the 3rd inning when we got back to back walks.
Loretta moved like a snail running down the line!! If he had better wheels he would have been safe.
That was an unusual play at first, got to make a highlight.
Time to see what other pitcher that Torre going to burn the next inning. I think Troncoso is next.
Nice to see the Giants lost.
It like we win they win they lose we lose.
Best number 8 hitter in all of baseball.
lol the 2nd best #8 hitters on this team hahaa
FURCAL putting wood on the ball, nice going.
One thing that’s good being the team in first place and that is every time both teams do the same thing, the first place team gains a day.
I thought Green suck but he has pitch well against us and I think Hudson need to rest these last few games until the all stars break.
Oh that make me sick Jones 12 homeruns geez where was the last year you fat cow?
That’s one need couple of more.
That’s error by blake is huge now.
lol nice line 4 walks 1 k’s from Blake.
Comon’guys
Nice 9th inning rally.
gosh freaking time warp.
MANNY!!!!
You wouldn’t believe this but I had a feeling he’d hit one.
Loretta couldn’t bunt?
Even better Loney didn’t PH for Loretta.
Come on Ethier
Damn if it wasn’t for Blake error earlier this could been tied.
Mets were due for a win, sooner or later.
Got to take the series tomorrow night.
CRAP!!!
Andre just grounds into too many DP’s!
Well, my comments after tonight’s game. I was downstairs watching the game on the big screen on ESPN and I think Joe needs to now get his head out of his A** and move Andre up to the second spot and drop Hudson to 7th or 8th as I’m tired of watching him take third strikes looking. Andre does better batting in front of Manny and move Kemp to fifth behind Casey. We need our power bunched up front as Kemp would get a chance to drive in more runs. How about it Joe, Time to get into the game.
Joe Torre sucks.
Loney vs Krod what is Loney batting average?
Doesn’t matter shad, Joe loves his lefty/righty matchups except when they matter most. I can’t believe the guy whos second on the team in RBIs didnt get an AB. Im sick of Joe Torre. Hes dead to me.
Actually gang, this game puts an exclamation point behind why it is totally UNACCEPTABLE!!© to not score runners at third with less than 2 out.
Great point also LongD!!! I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!
Loney is 0/3 with 2 k’s against Krod.
Bottom line, Kuroda stunk and the offense didn’t get it done.
Disappointing but not fatal. We can still win this series tomorrow!!! GO DODGERS!!!!
I would had guess Loney would be the 1st called PH but I guess not.
Bringing in the struggling Wade with the bases loaded to face 2 lefties proved to be very costly. Should have been Leach but whatever. Joe needs to retire.
Well the good thing is that our bullpen pitch very well tonight but still worry like the most of us in here about having the most innings from our relievers this year.
In case you haven’t guessed or are new to this blog, my pet peeve is leaving runners at 3rd with less than 2 outs. It really bunches my shorts!!! LOL!!!!! It almost always comes back to bite you in the butt!!!!
Good points Shad and Aeversw!!!
I don’t think we can blame Wade maybe he should’ve be in there but Kuroda didn’t really help his cause either leaving with the bases loaded with 1 out. We had plenty of chances and blew it big time
It’s all about playing fundamentally sound baseball, winning series’, and avoiding losing streaks. So far, so good. I still think we have some work to do on the fundamentals part. But I definately see progress.
Definately Shad!!!!!
I think Hudson should sit and Dewitt should play some. Did Torre forget that Dewitt is a Mets killer? Ausmus is batting .323 against Livan shouldn’t Martin be sitting since Ausmus hasn’t played in a week?
Good evening, all. Ollie Perez was in a giving mood tonight but we refused to take advantage. I guess 12 million a year doesn’t buy what it used to. Kudos to Daniel Murphy on his unbelievable play at 1st. That play will probably earn him an ESPY and a place on baseball highlight shows for years to come. No argument on the lineup moves, longtime. In particular, Matt Kemp in the 8th spot is complete idiocy….Apparently, the Blue Jays are willing to listen to offers for Roy Halliday. That is, however, not the same as being willing to move him. And with their reported asking price, 6 players and 2 of them being the top prospects of the offering organization, I suspect that he will still be north of the border come Opening Day, 2010. Time to go and vote for Matt.
It’s hard to be negative, (and I’m not trying to be, just stating facts), when you have the best record in baseball. However, winning the division in the regular season and winning the World Series are two different animals. Fundamental mistakes get you eliminated against the best teams that you face in the playoffs. The margin for error shrinks drastically!!!!!
I still can’t believe he didn’t used Loney in that situation and if not why wasn’t Loretta bunting? We could’ve had gotten the tying run to tied it and they probably would ibb Kemp and we PH with Loney.
Exactly, jhall!!!! Case in point: the Cardinals-Tigers WS when the Tigers’ pitchers inability to make basic fielding plays, essentially, cost them the Series.
I know it hard to be negative but we have to and I was just checking out Martin career against Livan and isn’t pretty 2/18 prefect timing to sit him but knowing Torre he’ll still play him. I would love to have the last year Wade and Kuo back. I’ve heard Kuo was pitching well in his first 2 rehab games but since July 4 I’ve heard much on him.
Hey Sky!!! Good to see you, as always!!! How’ya been my friend? Excellent example!!!
Geez Jones so I guess you happy with all that money you stole from Ned. I wanted him to fail so bad so glad he not are problem no more. I wonder if those so call Disney team think they still in LA giving him the booed lol. Glad he didn’t hit 3 homeruns in one game for us or against us.
Hi Sky
Look at this fool traded proposed on the main LA board.
Here are my 3 good options in a trade to get not only Roy but Rod too.
Option 1) Guillermo Mota, Russell Martin, Blake Dewitt and Claudio Vargas for Roy and Rod Barajas
Option 2) Blake Dewitt, Russell Martin, Juan Pierre and James McDonald for Roy and Rod
Option 3) Juan Pierre, Russell Martin , Clayton Kershaw and Juan Castro for Roy and Rod
Some of you may not agree with me on Option 3, but the Jays want a great young pitcher in return and this good be a fresh start for russell martin, plus Juan could be an everyday starter.
Look at what the person posted on the main LA board.
grrrrrrrr that took forever to posted lol
I don’t even know why this newbie posting this kind of crap.
Hey, jhall and shad!!!! How’s the Buckeye State these days, jhall?? Humid as ever, I expect. Due to Torre’s historical tendency to overuse his bullpens (just ask Scott Proctor), our bullpen, as I’d feared, is starting to break down. Today, it’s Belisario, tomorrow, who knows??? Hope Ned’s looking to add a quality arm or two before the trading deadline.
I don’t see us playing for Halliday. We don’t have the prospects or the everyday players to give up. Kind of goes hand in hand. If we had guys in AAA ready we could deal. We Don’t. I wouldn’t trade any of our young starters for Halliday. Martin would be the only one I would consider. Any trade would have to include Juanpy!!
LOL Sky!! Getting ready for college football. Actually, hasn’t been very humid so far this summer. I’m sure it will. Beats the heck out of winter, however.
No doubt Roy Halladay is one of the finest pitchers in all of baseball…a true #1, gritty, durable, a winner. In a short series, he dominates. But he is 32 years old. Not sure the Dodgers have a lot of blue chippers in AA or AAA anymore. They’re all in L.A. So the question becomes, who would you trade for Halladay? Remember, Toronto doesn’t want Dodger trash, so throwing out names like Vargas, Mota, Pierre is rediculous. Even DeWitt and McDonald, though young, are unproven, as far as getting a guy like Halladay in return. If one had to trade a pitcher, would it be Billingsley or Kershaw? And if Toronto wanted an everyday player, as well, would it be Kemp, Ethier, Loney or Martin? For my money, the two players I DON’T trade are Kershaw and Kemp. But that’s just me. If I’m GM and Toronto would take Martin, Billingsley and a couple of minor leaguers, I’d have to give it serious thought. No team is going to get Halladay for chump change. But geez, I’d HATE to give up either Billingsley OR Kershaw.
Hi’Ya Kahli!! I wouldn’t trade Billz or Kersh. I’m ready to run what we brung to this drag race!!!!! Sometimes, no move, is the better option.
The dude’s crazy, shad .None of those deals will get it done. I hear they want 6 players, 2 of them being an organization’s top prospects. Ned’s sorry !@# would be run back to SF if he traded Kershaw. Vargas and Mota???? Get real!!!! You’re going to trade away your future for a guy you’ll probably have a year and a half max?? (his walk year is next year) A bad deal in any configuration.
Hey boys!! How are you doing? I just got in from movie and dinner with the girls in the family. The first thing I heard is Andre grounded into a double play to end the game. Very sad about that 😦 Maybe messagebear wasn’t hard on him enough today, or maybe he needs to move back up in the line up where he belongs, next to Manny. Other than Manny’s homerun tonight, maybe they need each other to feed off of. ……………..just wonderin’
Well there BJ Ryan out there just not and Ned probably want him.
not=now
BonJour Nelle’ bon mon amie!!! We’ll get’em tomorrow!!!!
I think Joe has to make up a lineup that will actually win sme games consistently. Move Andre and Matt up……..Russell and Orlando down!
I started to log every place in the order Ethier has batted this year, but I’m no dodgereric…I couldn’t keep my nose to the grindstone. But watching his batting average spin downward gets me angrier and angrier with the “genius” at the helm. What’s so freaking difficult about settling on a batting order? He messes with everyone’s head.
Well crazy you can’t seem to blame him at least he try lol. Well at least he didn’t do this one.
Option 4) Guillermo Mota, Juan Pierre, Blake Dewitt, Juan Castro and Claudio Vargas for Roy and Rod Barajas
Beats me Kahli, and I probably have those numbers somewhere on Andre, but probably need to update them. I have not ran totals in a few days, but really there is not much to add seeing how he hasn’t hit the ball in days it seems.
I’d like to see us get, at the least, another decent quality arm for the bullpen before the deadline. Any reasonably good starter, unless the deal is a total salary dump, is going to cost way too much. I think you’re probably right, jhall. Line up and let the funny cars burn them off.
Andre didn’t get it done tonight, but he has more times than not. I don’t have a problem with him/that. Not scoring runners from 3rd with less than 2 out bit us in the butt!!! Or moving runners up. Productive outs my friends. Fundamentals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Trumom!!! Good to see you!!!!!

He probably could, jhall. Right now, JuanP’s marketability is as high as it will ever get.
Jhall ~ good to see you too. I’m like you with runners in scoring position and not bringing them home. Enchanted is a little “miffed” at that too. We have left way too many runners on base and it can come back to bit us in the *** if we don’t correct the problem.
Geez I hate coping and paste this from the yahoo profile stats and it always mess things up.
Juanpy could get us a serviceable reliever right now!!!
Good Evening jhall – it is great to see you? I hope all has been well with you.
I was asked today if I would be upset if Andre were in a trade for Halliday, and of course I would be, who wouldn’t…..well a few I suppose. However, baseball is a business and eventhough I would be upset, I would eventually come around to understanding it, after I get over the ill effects of seeing JP out there playing everyday. I am just tired of Andre getting jerked around, and yes, he is playing everyday so far, but Andre being traded would just be the ultimate in getting jerked around IMO.
Gosh that just show that Murphy play that hit the base and Murphy did a wrap around and thrown Loretta out.
Amen Tru!!! You might win the division wasting opportunities, but you will not win the World Series!!!!
Nelly, even Ned isn’t stupid enough to trade Andre (I’m going out on a limb her gang). He should be negociating a long term deal with him.
The first one is but the 2nd one is by team in his career. Of course it look confusing because of yahoo lol
Shad – those are Andre’s numbers this year?
Jhall, Andre has gotten it done more than not this year, but I really want to see his batting average start going up. He is way too talented to be a Ryan Howard/Adam Dunn feast or famine hitter. I don’t think Torre’s continuous lineup changes have helped, but he’s been jacked around in the lineup his whole career. With his sweet swing, he should be a .300 hitter like he has been most of his career and in college. I have total faith he’ll figure it out very soon. He’d better because I am so sick of having to listen to Charlie on the radio and Lyons and Collins on tv make such a big deal out of him being in a slump. They never shut up about it every time he’s at bat. They don’t seem to make such a big deal about other players being in slumps. He is still the team leader in rbi’s and hr’s and I can guarantee when he starts hitting they won’t slobber all over him like they do over some other players.

BonJour Bleu Fille’ mon amie!!! Andre should bat 2nd right now behind Ferk. Drop O’Dawg to 7th or 8th.
Right On Trumom!!!!
hmmmmm tru must be saying this ***** put it together lol
Damn I put spacing and is still bleep it out.
BCG ~ Charlie and Rick love Juanpy and will do whatever they can to discredit Andre. It sucks because Andre has won far more games for us than JP has or ever will.
.
Odd, I can say crap but they bleep a**!
bluecrewgirl – I read you loud and clear. I am so very frustrated with how he is being treated even though he is still leading the team in homeruns and RBIs. My thinking is he is trying to hit more for power, hence the lower average and higher strike out numbers, but you are right, I hope he doesn’t go away from that sweet lefty swing he has and remember that’s what he is known for, hitting in all parts of the park. I am like you, he will find a balance between being a home run hitter and the base hit, doubles guy. I just hope Joe lets him figure it out before benching him before Juan “can do no wrong” Pierre.
Hi Eric
Hi’Ya Dad/Chevelle!!!!!!! How’ve ya been my friend?
Greetings all!
All hitters good and bad go through slumps, as we all know. Andre was the ‘out guy’ tonight and that’s too bad.
Listening to Charlie and Lyons and Collins really makes you yearn for Ross Porter, doesn’t it?
red pen – “for” not “before”
Time Warp or I’m clairvoyant!!!
Yes it does dodgereric, and the ESPN guys were not much better. They went on and on and on about JP and he wasn’t even in the game at the time. If everybody loves him so much, why doesn’t anybody want him. I know……………the big fat contract.
Sad but true Red Fox!! Nice post!!!!
I sure do miss Ross, Dodgereric. You should have heard Rick and Charlie the days before Manny’s return….making cracks as if they were opposing announcers. Now, he is back with the team and they are supposed to treat him like family….yea, sure! Vinny never lets things get personal as far as knowing wheter he likes or dislikes a player….he just calls a fantastic game and gives you some interestring tidbits along the way……….that’s why he is in the HOF!
Nelly and trublu, I was driving to the grocery store after work and listenting to the game and Charlie was getting on my last nerve. He kept spouting off statistics for Andre’s recent at bats and I was thinking, did you do that when Russ and Raffy were struggling for a very prolonged period? No. Did you do that when Pierre hit the skids after May or when Blake or Loney were struggling? No again. I was so mad I wanted to bash the radio in, lol.
Well, Belisario on DL is no surprise. Several of us have been warning that would happen if Joe didn’t change his ways. Next will be Troncoso and Broxton. I don’t know why Joe can’t learn from his past mistakes. And batting Kemp 8th again tonight is ludicrous and probably cost the Dodgers the game. Chalk another loss up to Joe. I know that the Dodgers have the best record in baseball for the time being, but I’m afraid that the way Joe is managing, a second half collapse in on the horizon.
G’Nite and God Bless you all!!!!
Excelsior True Believers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very well said, Redfox!
Goodnight, jhall. Take care of yourself.
I’ve been just fine jhall! Yourself?
Tru, even a recent fan such as my Matt notices the difference between Vin and the rest. He mentioned tonight that Scully never denegrates the opponents like Lyons and Collins did tonight. I told him that it’s actually the norm, Vin is unique.
For the life of me, I’m trying to understand Torre and his handling of pitchers and failing miserably.
bluecrewgirl – yesterday I went to just the mlb.com guys for the video feed and it was very nice to just hear a baseball game called. Steve and Eric (lol – Lyons and Collins) really aren’t any better when it comes to calling a fair game for all players. However, they are better than Rick and Charlie. When it’s not a home game, it is sometimes better listening to the other team’s announcers. They always have great things to say about Andre and many of our players who don’t get that everyday coverage (James is one too, who kind of plays under the radar without a lot of said about him). They will mention Andre is slumping or hasn’t been hitting recently, but they always go back to the fact that he does lead the team in homeruns and RBIs and he leads the league in walk-offs, which even I tend to forget when he is having a bad day.
good night jhall, and I hope you are right about Andre. I want him to be a Dodger for as long as possible. He deserves a ring someday. He is one of the reasons they are where they are today. Take care and God Bless my friend 🙂
redfox – I am with the rest of them that are saying….fabulous post!!!
Why is it that whenever the giants lose we cant seem to pull out a win, giants losses are becoming less frequent and that worries me, the rockies are hangin around as well. We need a 20 game lead going into september so we can rest a bullpen that is already used up (i.e. Bellasario) at least Manny looks like he’s gettin back into form but we need some pitching or it will be a short postseason run…halladay anyone? GO DODGERS!!
Dodgereric- Vin also doesn’t talk about the players as if that one player is the only reason the team is succeeding.
Nelly, I know what you mean and I agree with Dodgereric, I miss the days of unbiased reporting like Ross. I too hope Andre is a Dodger for many years to come and I am not going to deny he’s in a funk right now, but that doesn’t erase what he has done for the team this year and I know he’ll come out of it stronger. You’re right that most of the Dodger announcers seem to forget he leads the team in hr’s and rbi”s Lyons was saying the other day on Dodgers Live that Andre’s #s were the lowest between him, Matt and Pierre during Manny’s absence. I was thinking, Dude, hello, batting average is a personal statistic for the most part. I don’t see how he could overlook the production #s, that is after all what matters most from a team perspective.
WHATEVER IT TAKES TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!
.
PUT THIS IN ACTION!!!!!!!!!
.
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!!!!
bluecrewgirl – As far as production numbers, Andre is well on his way of beating out every personal best he has right now (he is only 4 HRs away from matching last years with over half the season to go), and like you said, his BA, OBP, SLG and OPS will be where it should be in the end too.
Thanks, jhallwally and nellyjune. I’m sure there are probably some positive things about Joe that we can’t see – perhaps a calming influence on players or a positive clubhouse atmosphere. I don’t really know, but the visible portion of his handling of pitchers and lineup decisions defies logic and common sense and is very frustrating to those of us who want to see the team end up a World Series winner.
bluesplash – I have the not so fun pleasure of either watching or hearing about the Giants everyday, and you are right, they are not going to go away unless we, ourselves, start pushing them away by winning when they lose, and today should have been one of those. Other than today, their starting pitching (including Zito now) are just dealing right now. I am not sure how they are going to handle Randy Johnson being out, but I don’t think it will harm them much. I am sure they will be on the market for a bat in the upcoming weeks, but like us, they are not willing to give up any major position players or the farm to get one.
Thanks, jhallwally and nellyjune. I’m sure there are probably some positive things about Joe that we can’t see – perhaps a calming influence on players or a positive clubhouse atmosphere. Good Evening Dodger4life 🙂
I am guessing it is a calming affect. Watching him on the rail at times makes me yawn.
Hello Nelly…….Whatever it takes is a wide description is’nt it. However it has only one conclusion….I can guarantee that it will take 100% from all involved.
.
Ned and Frank made up the slogan….and have been saying that teams will be shredding payroll at some point in the season and bargains will be had. I’d say it is game time and the Boy’s on the field deserve 100% from the front office.

BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!
Sorry for the double post. My computer was acting up and acted like the comment wasn’t sent.
Andruw Jones needs to be taken out to pasture. What a jerk!!!!
We still have the biggest division lead in all of baseball, but it could and should be more. We just need to keep winning series and we can accomplish that tommorrow. The all-star break should do our guys some good
hahahaha I just seen those 3 homeruns and he was getting booed.
That just don’t look right Artest wearing 37. I want 73.
I don’t know why there’s so much criticism of Joe Torre. He is one of the best managers in baseball. Who would you rather see, Grady Little?
Yes, the bullpen is getting overworked, but that’s not Torre’s fault. It’s the starting pitchers’ fault. They are not providing the quality starts.
The manager’s main job is to manage the clubhouse, take care of the players, make sure that they don’t blow up on each other over a 162 game season, and so on. In-game decisions are relatively insignificant.
Take a step back and look at the big picture. The Dodgers are 53-31. They have the BEST record in baseball. They have the BEST record in baseball. They have the BEST record in baseball.
The best record in baseball didnt win the Fall Classic last year………The team that came together at the end did.
Keep pushing foward…….Whatever it takes to win the championship means whatever it takes from all.
Joe said we are just numbers people and that is why we don’t make up the lineups. …………..and whatever he does do seems to work, so why say anything? ……………..just wanting it to be better 🙂
If the horrible truth be told, Pierre did better in the lead-off spot than Furcal. I propose we bench Martin and have Pierre catch. He won’t throw out many base runners, but Martin doesn’t either.
Pierre
Ethier
Manny
Kemp
Furcal
Hudson
Loney
Blake
Two four-man units, each with its own lead-off men!…….Get Joe and Ned on the phone!!!!
So, he will be 1 of 2 left-handed catchers in the league :))
If the Dodger’s own announcers are going to be producing pro-Pierre stats, let’s try to balance the books a little. Here’s a couple of important catagories that don’t have anything to do with power (advantage Ethier) or speed (advantage Pierre). All numbers are for 2009 only.
Productive Out % (Created by Elias and ESPN for two possible situations: Advancing any runner with one out, and driving in a baserunner with the second out of the inning)
Pierre – 40%
Ethier – 41%
League Average – 32%
Baserunners Scored % (Percentage of all baserunners who scored on the batter’s play – not necessarily with an RBI)
Pierre – 17%
Ethier – 16%
League Average – 14%
Both players are very close to each other and above the league average, yet Pierre has been “superb” and Ethier is in a horrendous slump.
Oh, and how about one of Torre’s supposed “Holy Grail” numbers:
Pitches per Plate Appearance
Pierre – 3.49
Ethier – 4.13
League Average – 3.82
dodgereric, that’s why the Dodgers play both at the top of the line-up where Manny can rake them in. Juan and Andre are a natural, it even sounds like a show. Pierre becomes the catcher–one of the greatest stories in the history of Dodger lore.
What will it take for us to get halladay? I feel that if we have him, our ticket to the world series is punched. Any thoughts Dodger Nation?
If the team that came together at the end won the title, why are we so worried about games in July? How about we enjoy some of this instead? Again, Joe Torre is one of the best managers in baseball. Sure, he’s made mistakes, I’m not denying that. But I think there’s just a little bit too much blame going around on Torre and not enough on the players. At the end of the day, players win and players lose games. If they win, we don’t write songs for Torre, do we? So how about blaming players (and not just Pierre) a little bit more for losses? That said, we’ll be fine. Hopefully we’ll get some pitchers before the deadline.
Thank you Dodgereric – great stats as always even if you are just a numbers person 🙂 They way the media (announcers primarily) talks, it sounds like JP isn’t doing anything wrong and Andre can’t do anything right all of a sudden.
red pen – “The” not “They”
ks, I’ll agree about the importance of a manager to manage the clubhouse, but “In-game decisions are relatively insignificant.”??? Really? I wonder how many fans and players and managers would agree with you?
It’s probably cuz people talk trash about Pierre all the time, and the announcers feel like they have to defend them. By most accounts, I hear he’s a great guy, and these guys (I’m assuming) travel around with them everywhere, so when they see a guy with great work ethic and a great attitude get slammed, naturally they would stick up for the guy. Torre will start Pierre from time to time, but again, it’s not Torre’s fault. You simply cannot bench a guy like that ALL the time. Otherwise, it might kill things in the clubhouse, and he has to keep everyone happy (relatively), cuz that’s what managers gotta do. We gotta give Torre credit for playing Manny, Kemp, and Ethier MOST of the time. Remember how Grady never played Kemp and Ethier at the same time? I never liked the Pierre signing, even from day 1, but I must admit that you can’t just sit him everyday. You can say that you need to “put the best players out on the field”, but it’s a little bit more complicated than that.
Maybe “relatively insignificant” was a poor choice of words, but I really do think that when GMs look for managers, in-game-decision-making is not really at the top of the list. I mean, you can’t have an idiot out there (like sooomebody), but “clubhouse” stuff is significantly more important, in my humble opinion.
There really hasn’t been that much negative JP talk around here lately (compared to the past) when it comes to his production. I feel lately it’s more to do with the announcers and their over abundance of talking about him like he is the only one responsible for where they are right now. Maybe ks is right. Maybe the announcers feel they need to defend him, and some of us think, perhaps it is to sell him or provide trade value for him. The work ethic thing has me a little bugged only because just because a player is not at the ball park at 10 in the morning for a night game, doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a good work ethic. We don’t know what the others are doing during the time before they get to the ballpark. I think spending time with family and friends is important too, and in some cases maybe it is their best way to prepare for a game. Just my thoughts 🙂
Haha yea that’s true, too.
I don’t think putting the best players on the field is very complicated. Sure, you need to give someone a rest now and then, particularly if they’re a little older or are slumping or banged-up. But over-playing your 4th-best, two-tool OFer at the expense of a four-tool guy just because you like his personality is questionable at best and stupid at the worst. Everyone loved Mickey Hatcher, but how many games did he start until injuries forced Tommy to do it? Without looking it up, it’s probably not many.
I’ll grant you that Torre has his good qualities as a manager, but I don’t think I’ve disagreed with a Dodger manager’s decisions so often in my entire life.
And by continuing to compare Torre to Little, that’s kind of like comparing your favorite president to Millard Fillmore isn’t it? LOL!!
ks – any ideas why you think Kemp has been batting 8th this whole time?
LOL!!!! that’s is funny dodgereric.
ks……. I am enjoying this believe it or not…I LOVVVE THIS TEAM!!!! By the way good conversation from all tonight.

Okay….. I can vent just a little frustration at a player

ANDRUW JONES YOUR A ****!!!!!!
GRRR, I’m getting tired of re-writing my posts. I’ll try this again and then it’s off to bed.
ks, this has been fun and I appreciate your viewpoints. But we’ll just have to agree to disagree about a manager’s role and Torre’s abilities. I will also admit that I think it’s strange that I (and a lot of others) find it necessary to find so much fault with a team with the best record in baseball. But the fact that we’re doing it anyway should say something, and it’s not that I’m a pessimist. Anyone who knows me will tell you the exact opposite. I’m just saying we could be better. We’ve done a lot of ‘catching lightning in a bottle’ so far this year. No one had any right to expect about 3/4ths of our pitching staff to perform the way they have so far. Let’s hope Torre decides to trust the starters for an extra inning per game. That would go a long way to balancing the workload between the starters and relievers.
Junie Darlin’, I have no doubt that the announcers like Pierre personally and that’s driving their incessant cheerleading. I’m sure he’s a really nice person if you are fortunate enough to get to know him. I just don’t think it’s reason enough to bench Ethier regularly, which is what will happen. If Torre resists this, kudos to him.
Gotta hit the rack, I’m falling asleep at the keyboard! May God Bless you one and all!
GO DODGERS! WIN THE SERIES!
BIG TURKEY!!!!!!!!
BIG TURKEY!!!!!!!!
Good Night Dodgereric – ………………..and yes, you are one of the most optimistic people I know. Let’s hope Torre can resist and keep Andre in the lineup. Take Care and God Bless to you and yours 🙂
He’s overplaying Pierre? I don’t really think he has. How many starts has he had this year when Manny was able to play? Six. I hardly call that overplaying. And out of those 6 starts, one was because Ethier can’t hit Peavy, two were because Manny was being rested, and one was because Kemp is 0-7 against Lincecum. And in those 6 games, Pierre bat .480. Seems like those were good decisions to me. And I have to expand a little bit on why Torre’s playing Pierre. It’s not just because he’s a good guy. It’s also because he’s getting paid $9 million, and it’s because he’s been a starter all his life. Yes, it’s politics, but it is what it is. So the Pierre situation I wouldn’t put on Torre; I would put that on Colletti. (But the times that he has started instead of the other 3 guys, he’s done really well anyways.)Again, there are times that I disagree with Torre’s decisions (Game 4 of the NLCS comes to mind), but again, I really don’t think managers affect the games much. That’s why they’re called managers. In the end, players win and lose games. And maybe the reason you haven’t disagreed with a manager that much in your entire life is because the Dodgers had Alston and Lasorda for about a billion years. I remember Lasorda and Bill Russell, but I wasn’t an analytical fan back then. And for Davey Johnson and Jim Tracy, that’s when I had turned my back on the Dodgers for trading Mike Piazza. So the only Dodger manager I can really compare him to is Little, haha.

Yeah it has been fun. I’m coming from a different perspective, but hey, disagreements make things interesting, don’t they?
And no, I have no idea why he’s batting Kemp 8th. LOL
I do agree with you in the fact that JP is more of a Ned issue (the contract in the first place) than Torre. ….and yes, it’s the difference of opinion that makes this forum great. Like enchanted said, if we all agreed on everything we would be talking about what we ate for breakfast instead. I like these discusssions. It makes you aware of others perspectives, and that everyone has a different view on how they see the best team in baseball right now.
Good Night and God Bless Everyone……….

Wolf is on the mound tomorrow………I hope he can get some run support……….. and bring his good curve. I Have Faith!!!!!

GO DODGERS!!!!!
BRING THE 2009 RING TO THE 2010 OWNERS MEETING!!!!!!!
Good morning IDT’ers. Was a very dissapointing loss last night. My opinion on trades, I would not trade Kemp, Loney, Billingsley, Kershaw or Dewitt for anyone. These are our future stars. I would trade Martin or Pierre or just about anyone else on the team. Just my opinion.
Andruw’s resurgence this season after the miserable last year with the Dodgers suggests to me that somebody on our side doesn’t know what he’s doing in terms of conditioning and batting instruction. One case maybe is an unusual execption, but when you look at two of our younger players, who still should be developing and improving, but find both of them struggling around the .250 mark, what’s the common denominator – Don Mattingly.
Fire Mattingly!!! Surely we can find somebody else equally equipped to kiss Joe’s a**, because the position apparently doesn’t require much else.
I have been reading the posts from last night and come to th conclusion that we are divided on the Joe Torre and Juan Pierre issue. That’s good. It makes this the best board around. I think both of them are highly overrated. Joe, mostly because of wasting the bat of Matt by batting him 8th. Losing several at bats by being that low in the lineup wil cost us dearly. As far as Juan goes, he did do a pretty good job while Manny was gone but, I cannot forget what a sour apple he was last year and the beginning of this season………demanding to be used or traded. I am one that believes as we start the second half of the season, that our best team and lineup be out there everyday. We are in first place but our lead isn’t as large as it should be.
*the conclusion
The only thing that I can see happening with trading Martin and Andre at this point is that some other team will ignite them to their full potential, and we will have lost a promising young player for probably unequal value based on Ned’s pervious accomplishments. I’m again looking at who’s working with them to adjust their batting approach, and I see Zip, nada, and yes the ***** Mattingly. He’s obviously useless enough to coach his own son to any degree of success even at A ball, so why expect that this piece of crap can do anything to get Martin and Andre back to their form.
Fire Mattingly, the a**kisser and useless ex-Yankee crud.
Why would you move somebody in the lineup you know does well hitting before or behind Manny? My thinking is just to mess with their head, and when they eventually slide, gives them all the reason to trade them or bench them. Just wonderin’ why the lineup is the way it is some days because they really make no sense whatsoever.
messagebear – my question about Mattingly and Andre. Why would you try and change somebody that has a swing that is already working. I think what is happening is they are trying to change Andre’s swing and the change is not working. Hence, going back to my previous comment. Maybe the change is not intentional, but maybe it is.
My son is being told to pitch two different ways. His personal pitching coach has taught him most of what he knows and he was lights out good, but now his highschool pitching coach is trying to change his mechanics, and it’s not working for Michael. So, who does he listen to?
Same at the major league level. You have been taught how to swing the ball from all these different coaches from highschool all the way up to this level, and now, once again, somebody is trying to change it, when you were doing just fine hitting the way you were. What do you do?
You let Andre be Andre!
Joe: Well Donny, what do you think is going on with ‘Dre
and Martin? They both seem to be losing the edge.
Don: Beats me, Joe. Why don’t we ask Manny – he seems
to know about this batting stuff.
Joe: Good idea, Donny, but why don’t you approach him.
Every time I try to talk to Manny, he just tells me
how uncomfortable he still is discussing things or
tells me that’s he’s already said everything there is
to say.
Don: OK, Joe, but every time I try to talk to Manny he tells
me that his legs hurt.
Joe: What do you think though, Donny boy?
Don: I think you ought to try batting them in the #8 slot –
look at what that is doing for Matt.
Joe: Well, I could, but I like to mess around with those
people on ITD – who do they think they are trying to
tell me about my lineup. Am I not the manager?
Don: Oh yes you are, sahib; you big honcho; you’re the
manager who holds all kind of records.
And have I told you lately how privileged we all are
to work for you.
Joe: Well, that is nice of you to say, Donny. We’ll just see
how the boys manage to adjust themselves. After
all, we are in first place, and I still have about three
arms in the bullpen that we can burn up staying
there.
That is funny messagebear, but that’s how I feel. I feel like nobody has control over what Manny does. Manny pretty much decides every day whether he is going to play or not or whether he plays a full game or not, and based on whether he plays or not, the lineup is then made according to some, unknown by any other manager, theory of let’s see who’s head I can mess with today. Then again, I am just a numbers person and don’t know the first thing about managing a team, but then there is a few on here I would give the job to in a heart beat, win or lose the games.
Messagebear and NellyJune ~ like Manny or not, he does more to help with the hitting than Mattingly does.
Yes, he does, but Manny controls whether he plays or not, not Joe. Seems kind of backwards to me.
If that is the case, doen’t it prove our point that Joe isn’t doing a very good job?
* doesn’t
I honestly believe that Dodgereric, Enchanted or several other of our board members could do a better job than Joe when it comes to putting a team on the field and winning games. Just once, I’d like to see Joe pick a lineup and use it for an entire week! Heck, 3 days would even be nice!
I see where Lincecum beat our Andre for the June “Clutch Player”. We were beaten by a Giant!!!!!!!!!! A Giant is also going to beat out Matt! Something is not right here!
Messagebear ~ I think Manny gives them the idea of what pitch is coming……..reading the ball. I was under the impression that is what he did last year during batting practice.
There’s only one problem with Manny coaching everybody how to hit, if that is happening. Manny has his own swing and the tools to deliver the best results with his swing. That doesn’t necessarily make it an appropriate swing for Andre, or Martin, or whoever, because each player is somewhat different I would expect. A batting coach is supposed to work with each individual and the make their own individual adjustments. It’s not a case of one way fits all.
A mini time warp again!
RIP Oscar Mayer
Something can’t be right here.
http://www.truebluela.com/2009/7/9/943382/andruw-jones-isnt-worth-booing?ref=yahoo
i wasn’t on the board last night.. but i can only imagine the things that were being said about andruw jones.. i just can’t believe he has 14.. FOURTEEN.. homers on the year.. 3 in a game last night.. it’s sickening.. it sickens me to think that we’re paying him still.. and he hit as many homers last night as he did for us ALL LAST SEASON.. what a joke =P
….well at least it was Oscar Mayer and not Farmer John – LOL!!!! I am sorry……………I couldn’t help it. I am trying to get through this month of July with humor because I hate trade talks, especially when they involve players I don’t want traded 🙂
Someone did mention Farmer John on the main message board next lol.
Kemp better go because I want to buy his all star jersey soon.
Kemp should had around 60+ rbi’s if he was bat higher and I think all of us here known this.
*batting
sara – definitely agree on that!!! Only four players have done that this year, Andre being one of them. What a record to have to share with Andruw.
I know it’s not my money, but I have an insane bitterness and “been cheated” feeling about Andruw about now. This feeling ranks up there with giving $200 billion to AIG and then seeing them write multi-million dollar bonus checks to the fools that flushed the money down the toilet! Stupid fat cow!
Pitchers IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA
C Richard 1.0 4 6 6 3 1 1 46-25 5.42
D Carrasco 1.0 2 0 0 3 0 0 41-19 3.44
Totals 2.0 6 6 6 6 1 1 87-44
Wow you don’t see both pitchers thrown over 40+ pitches in an inning.
Kahli – I want the homeruns and RBI’s!!!
Kahli ~ I wonder who will be “resting” today?!
n/m Carraso had 23 pitches in that 2nd innings.
I don’t care where Joe bats anybody, just so long as he leaves the line-up alone. Repeat…LEAVE THE LINE-UP ALONE. Ethier already said last week, if the team wants him to hit for average, don’t put him in an rbi slot, where he’s trying to drive the ball. You want slap hits, bat him 2nd and he’ll hit .300 in front of Manny. You want HRs and rbis, he won’t hit .300. I mean, for crying out loud, he LEADS the team in both HRs and rbis.
Damn I wish Sizemore would stop walking and I need him to get some hits and SB’s. I’m already leading my category in bb’s.
I said yesterday Blake wouldn’t see a pitch to hit with Loretta/Martin backing him in the order. Blake, the clean-up hitter, walked four times. Little things Joe does that drive me crazy. Until Martin shows ANY sign of life, he should hit 8th and be done with it. He likes to walk, anyway.
Here’s a suggested lineup today against Livan. It incorporates many of your recent comments, except, of course, Kahli’s “leave the lineup alone”. I would leave Andre a little low in the lineup until he comes out of his current slump. Neither ODog nor Martin does well against Livan.

The first 20 games of Manny suspension Pierre hit .425…the last 30 games he hit .244. Can we get over this Pierre carried the Dodgers bullcrap. Juan Pierre sucks and shouldn’t be allowed near the lineup. Not to mention his terrible arm in the outfield that teams will take complete advantage of. Juan Pierre needs to be traded. He’s not even a good 4th outfielder option.
Pierre can’t even steal a meaningful bases. He’s completely useless.
I gave my AL votes to Figgins, since I thought the AL needed a no-power guy like Pierre on their team.
Well, I voted to the bitter end, but know most LA fans, we had no chance of winning for Matt. It’s sad when we have some of the highest attendance in baseball, yet we can almost never get players voted in, only appointed. And it’s worse when very small market teams get multiple players in. And, in case you’re wondering, I gave my AL votes to Kinsler (couldn’t vote in a LOS ANGELES Angel).
NOOOOOOOOOOO! I can’t believe KEMP did not win. Sniffsniff… We all tried sooooo hard and voted and voted and voted and voted. Oh well there is NEXT YEAR!
*
OH yeah hello at ITD’rs
I’m not toooo happy with yesterday’s lost. We had soooooo many chances. Today is a MUST WIN!
*
GOOOOOO DODGERS!
Fear not, Bison has an excellent chance of making the All-star roster as an injury replacement. Beltran won’t be there and there’s a chance Ibanez might not play. I have a feeling Kemp might be on the team after all.
new thread.
Hello ITD blogmates!
Mike,
I could not vote for an Angel either. I looked at the AL final list and decided on the one that could do the NL least harm. I voted a lot yesterday but this morning I could not log on from work.
.
I take consolation that Andruw’s homeruns came against the Angels.
.
Kemp should still make the ASG since Beltran is injured.
.
We got to take the game today. Our lucky charm Joe Pierre will be in attendance!
