Tribute to Michael Jackson

11.30.84 jackson 1.JPGThe picture above is from the Victory Tour at Dodger Stadium on Nov. 30, 1984…which just so happened to be my first-ever concert of any kind.

Tonight, during our Friday Night Fireworks, we’ll pay tribute to the music of Michael Jackson, who was undoubtedly the biggest entertainer of his generation. It’s weird to think that kids born within the last few years will see Michael Jackson in the same way as I see Elvis Presley…an entertainer from my parents’ generation who passed away right around the time I was born. Hard to even fathom how big he was in his heydey…

UPDATE:

Tonight’s lineup:

Pierre, LF

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Blake, 3B

Loney, 1B

Martin, C

Ethier, RF

Kemp, CF

Kershaw, P

Hope to see all you at the tour tomorrow…Joe Pierre has landed in LA!

Thanks Josh! Tonight’s game and fireworks will be memorable.
    I look forward to attending.
    .
Tomorrow will be a great day for ITD. It was wonderful of you to put it all together for us! We are all excited. Especially for Joe Pierre (oldbrooklynfan). See you then!

  2. cpompe1

Good morning ITD boys and girls!
Tough series in Chicago. Oh well, that’s gonna happen. I just hope there aren’t many more series like that. I am SOOOO excited for tomorrow! I can’t wait to meet my fellow ITDers in person! It’s going to be a fun day and night! I’ve been busy for a while now and haven’t read ITD much lately (a little bit, but not much), but has it been decided? Are we going to Phillippes after the tour?

I’ve got a lot to do today and my husband and I are going out tonight, so I don’t know if I’ll get a chance to post again today, before we leave. I’ll try. But if I don’t:
    GO DODGERS!!!
    GO CLAYTON!!!

  3. thinkingblue

I hate forgetting to sign in….you type and type and nothing…so here I go again!

  4. perumike

Hey everyone! I just introduced my wife to Dodger Lyrics, however she has known for a long time about the songs being composed here. I need to compose some more, so keep an eye out for some creations, maybe both english and spanish. 🙂

  5. knouffbrock@frontiernet.net

I’ve got a bet riding on this series with the nieces up on Whidbey Is. Here’s hoping the boys bring their A game after their disappointing Chicago series. Of course, these things will happen, but I’d like to keep bragging rights in the family.
    *
    Everybody, have fun tomorrow!!!!

  6. crzblue2

    Perumike,
Lately i’ve been hearing a lot of music in Spanish but some of the oldies but goodies. The last ones I’ve been hearing on Yutube are from el flaco de oro Agustin Lara.

  7. thinkingblue

PERU- Thanks 5 series wow…somehow I just remember the Angels and yersterdays. I guess I have selective memory. Well and the Angels is because my Father-in-law is an Angel’s fan and he keeps reminding me. Booohooo!
    *
EMMA – Spanish music is great. Agustin Lara is a classic. Beautiful Music he composed. Of course I grew up to Pedro Infante…I am way to young to be of his time (I’m from the Timbiriche-Menudo Era…LOL), but my mom watched every Infantes’ movie. And of course having parents from Jalisco (well MEXICAN in General)…Vicente Fernandez’s music was always A MUST play & sing and family gatherings…FUN.

  8. shad80

hmmmmmm how is Luna still having these numbers around .353 .420 .657 1.077? To bad that stadium there is a hitter park if Luna already have 13 homeruns and Repko 11 homeruns.

  9. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

michael jackson tribute fireworks.. it’ll be great!

aww, they switched up the rotation.. i really thought we’d get kershaw vs king felix tomorrow.. but that’s alright.. we get kersh tonight! so we can start off the series on a high note..

let’s get a win tonight boys! we haven’t lost 3 in a row all year (if i’m not mistaken) so let’s not start now!

i’ll be there tonight.. and i’ll be there tomorrow.. can’t wait for the tour and the game guys.. we’ve been talking, and talking, and talking.. and the day is really finally almost here!

  10. thinkingblue

Sara – we have not lost 3 in a row…so tonight is a must win. Maybe that’s why they switched Kershaw.

  11. shad80

To bad they won’t dfa Mota and hate to say this but Wade to and called up Hyang-Nam Choi and Threets or Matthew Sartor and J.D. Durbin or any combo of the 2.

  12. nellyjune

Good Afternoon from So-Cal!! Tru, Dodger4life, Mariya and I made it here safely, and we are currently in Dodgerericland. Can’t wait to see you all tomorrow.

Josh – Thank you so much for the tribute to Michael Jackson, and thank you sooooo much for making this tour happen.

    GO DODGER BLUE!!!!

  13. perumike

Glad you made it here to SoCal nelly! Can’t wait to meet you tomorrow!!! I’m super excited about the tour!!!

  14. crzblue2

    Rose,
My aunt Nora watched and watches all of Pedro Infante’s movies and another of her favorite was Gary Cooper.
    .
My latest blog is about the ITD get together. There is a picture of one of the kiddies I am kitty-sitting. The other ones could not stay still. Well, I better head that way before I head to the stadium.

Good to see Joe Pierre has landed! Nelly, happy to see you and yours made it here safely. Getting VERY excited about tomorrow and really looking forward to meeting everyone.
    .
But for tonight, it’s business as usual. Sink the Mariners! GO DODGERS!!!
    .

  16. perumike

Well everyone, gotta run for the next few hours, going over to help my parents move some stuff. Hopefully see you all later tonight, and of course tomorrow!

  17. 32and53fan

Another aggressive move by Kemp. That is the kind of gamble I don’t mind seeing. Especially when it works out. Only a perfect throw would have nailed him at third.

  18. ramslover

Light night on here I see. Have fun on the tour tomorrow, I wish I could be there, maybe next if they have it again.

It is good to see Kershaw have 3 good outings in a row. He seems to be trusting his stuff and not throwing as many pitches per inning.

As for Billingsley, this was 2 games in row he goes into the 6th with a 4-1 lead and loses the lead. Come on Chad lets act like an ace and put the teams away. You should have 11-12 victories.. We need you to take the leadership role on the staff and when you have a lead in the 6th it should be lights out…Now with that being said, he should be an All Star along with Broxton.

The more I watch Casey Blake the more I appreciate him. I will admit I was not very excited when the Dodgers got him last year (still not excited long term n giving up Santana), but he is alot better than I thought. Especially defensively, he makes all the plays and he plays the game the right way. Keep it up Casey!!!

That #16 guy is putting on a show tonight, great job…

  19. dodgereric

Hi rams! I agree with just about everything you said. I’m going to give Billz a break for right now. Everyone’s due a slump now and then. Let’s see how long it takes for him to come out of it.

There are a lot of pleasant surprises on this team this year and Blake is certainly one of them.

  20. shad80

That the same Josh Wilson that turned a dp on Blake when he was a dback. I guess his old team don’t want him if this is his 3rd team so far.

  21. shad80

That the same Josh Wilson that turned a dp on Blake when he was a dback. I guess his old team don’t want him if this is his 3rd team so far.

  22. ramslover

DEric, you must be going nuts with the Ethierholics in the house..sounds like a blpit bullast!!!

As for Bills I agree with you, he gets a pass, but I want him to be like Doc Halladay, he gets a 3 run lead in the the 5th or 6th, the other team gets demoralized..get that pitbull attitude….

Furcal really cannot be this bad all year, can he? I cannot imagine how much fun the lineup would be if he and Martin were to hit to their average years…Furcal just looks lost, his mechanics in his swing have not rythym….I hope it gets it together soon, because he is such a sparkplug…It has to be his back because he is not running as well…

  23. shad80

Wait a second Ethier with his 3rd homerun and Mota with 2nd scoring innings omg tell me I’m dreaming.

  24. shad80

I know rams I would’ve love to have keep Santana but we need to make that trade since no one wasn’t hitting and we need another power bat in the lineup.

  25. dodgereric

It’s been a great night for sure, rams! And we all want to see Billz become that guy, but it doesn’t usually happen overnight. It’s hard to be patient, isn’t it?

Furcal has indeed been a disappointment to this point. I expected him to start slow, but this is ridiculous.

  26. jhallwally

A beautiful love letter from Andre to our Nelly!!! Thank you Andre. Now Jojo really has no debate when Manny comes back on who should start. You can’t bench your home run and rbi leader. LOL!!! Not getting down on Pierre, I think he has performed admirably in Manny’s absence. Actually I like his defense in left better than Manny’s. Gonna be some tough decisions for Jojo!!! As long as we keep winning and bring home the WS title, I’ve got nothing to complain about. I think this team can bring it home!!!
    Failure is not an option!!!!!

  27. dodgereric

    Waaaaaallllllleeeeeee!

Man, that was a positive post! Have you been sipping from sparkle’s flask?

Unfortunatley, you KNOW Andre’s gonna be tired a few times a month once Manny gets back!

  28. dodgereric

Beeeeeeeev! I’ve got the camera batteries all charged with a couple of spares. There will be plenty of photographic evidence good or bad!

  29. enchantedbeaver

Billz is like a young Hershiser – has the stuff, but not the mental toughness. Let’s give him a nickname.

  30. sparkleplenty_1

Uh huh – Andre’s gonna be tired from hitting all those home runs. He will definitely need a rest . . . . Joe Torre thought bubble

  31. jhallwally

Livin’ the High Life Dad!!! LOL!!! I remember when I was 24. I tired out very easily back then. HaHa!!! How’ve ya been my friend?

  32. jhallwally

LOL Sparkle!!!! Hey Beav!!!! How ya doin’ my brother?!!!!!!!!!! No cameras at our parties!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!

  33. enchantedbeaver

Doing well Wally – how’s yourself? You gonna be around tomorrow night? – its the Wally, Beav and Bear show.

(I was going to put Bear before Beav, but it just didn’t sound nice.)

  34. shad80

Speaking of Hershiser they was showing rerun of him on Poker After Dark but it was late like 2 am in the morning.

  35. enchantedbeaver

I think I’ve got this mini time warp thing figured out – it posts according to the time it says on your computer.

  36. enchantedbeaver

Its Pacific time, but if your PC says 15 minutes past the hour, that’s the time stamp it gets. Mine says 16 right now.

  37. enchantedbeaver

So now we know Ned was a keyboard player. Not much of a stretch to an accordian… I still say Ned was a Mirth Maker.

  38. ramslover

Jhall I agree Bills needs to miss a start, I like in the minors they have a 7 day DL..that would be perfect to let the guys miss a start without missing too much time…it would help to keep the arms fresher…

I am worried our BP, which has been great thus far is going to be worn down in the second half…Who will be the pitcher they pickup. Not a big Washburn fan, Cliff Lee is a better fit..although he can give up a lot of hits..he has really battled back from a bad start…Bedard and Peavy are hurt…there does not seem to be alot out there…

Elbert has pitched well since being sent back down and dominated in his 1st game in AAA…

  39. jhallwally

Bear will provide Food for thought, Beav, booze for our souls, and myself, the strippers for atmosphere!!!!!

  40. jhallwally

Hi’Ya Ram!!! That would be perfect. I’d take Cliff Lee. The others, Pass!!! You are right, really not alot out there!!!!!!!!!! Indians however, can’t use Pierre!!! I think he has played himself into a good trade chip.

  41. jhallwally

LOL Beav!!! Those strippers doing the Polka could be interesting!!! I don’t want Ned, you can have him, he’s not got the tools for me!!!!

  42. jhallwally

Sorry, but I still believe Ned is a fish out of water and Frank and Jojo instramented or had more input into our recent acquistions and success!!!!!

  43. jhallwally

One thing for certain, the Dodgers need to be talking to ODawg about a contract now!!!!! I want him back!!!!

  44. enchantedbeaver

I think you’re right Wally. Its obvious they don’t have someone capable of playing second in the minors that could come close to his defense, and I can’t see DeWitt equaling his offense either.

  45. nellyjune

Good Late Evening Boys!!! How are the two of you doing?

ramslover – HIS NAME IS ANDRE ETHIER AND HE IS #16 AND PLAYS RIGHT FIELD AND HE HIT THREE, COUNT THEM THREE HOMERUNS TONIGHT. He also tied James in RBI’s tonight and so they share the lead.

  46. enchantedbeaver

Hey Nells!! Its just too bad that our left fielder is Mr. Baseball.

I see DeWitt more as trade bait than anything else. Hu too if he has any value left.

  47. jhallwally

LOL Beav!! Unfortunate but probably true!!! I agree with you on DeWitt and Hu!!! Just hope they go after pitching!!!!

  48. nellyjune

jhall ~ He did a very good job tonight, yes, he did!!!! Let’s hope he saved some for tomorrow night. How are you doing? It’s great seeing you and wish you and enchanted were here.

  49. nellyjune

enchanted – It just seems JP these days can’t do anything wrong in the eyes of management, the announcers and the media, and regardless of how well Andre (or Matt) plays, playing time will be taken away from them.

  50. jhallwally

Andre will continue to contribute and improve. That’s the way he is put together. I believe that. Class act. Doing great, Thanks. We are there in spirit Nell. I am very happy for you all. Have a great time. Carry the torch for us my friend!!!!

  51. enchantedbeaver

Maybe if they do it again next year I’ll get a chance to come out.

As long as there are strippers…

    Female thank you.

  52. enchantedbeaver

Nothing against DeWitt, but I have to say whoever made the call of signing Hudson over playing Blakey at second made a great call.

  53. nellyjune

Ward Dear/Dodgereric – Thank you for a great evening once again. You and Chris are just super (and Matt, of course too)!!

  54. nellyjune

I have no doubts about Andre’s character, and that alone is going to get him far, with or without baseball. We will carry the torch proudly my friend.

enchanted – I am sure that can be arranged for next year.

  55. enchantedbeaver

    Why not both Wally!!??

Guess I’d better hit it. It’s been a long day. Thanks for the fun conversation as always my friends. And to all of you going to the tour, have a GREAT time!!!

  56. nellyjune

Good Night enchanted!!! Have a great Beav, Bear and Wally day tomorrow and I would try to ask you to behave, but I know better 🙂

  57. nellyjune

Good Night enchanted!!! Have a great Beav, Bear and Wally day tomorrow and I would try to ask you to behave, but I know better 🙂

  58. jhallwally

Both it is my brother!! G’Nite Beav!!! I echo Beav’s sentiments. Hope you all have a great time at the tour and the game. Catch you all down the road.
    Excelsior True Blue Believers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  59. nellyjune

Good Night to you too jhall!!! Take Care and you, enchanted and the others will not be forgotten on this tour.

  60. dodgereric

    Ahem……..
    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodgers-fyi27-2009jun27,0,2136245.story

    …which contains…..

“Jarrod Washburn is friends with Jeff Weaver and in a fantasy football league with Doug Mientkiewicz.

The possibility of Washburn joining his pals in Dodger blue appears very real.”

    ……and………

“Torre said that Juan Pierre, who has filled in admirably in Ramirez’s absence, would play a day or two a week in center field upon Ramirez’s return July 3 from a 50-game drug suspension.

Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier will alternate as the right fielder on the days Pierre starts, giving the other player the day off.”

  61. nellyjune

Told ya it wouldn’t make a difference how well those two do, their playing time (mostly Andre’s) will be jeopardized.

  62. perumike

Good evening everyone. I got home at about 11 from my parents’, and now need to get some sleep before the tour! See you all tomorrow!!!

  63. heartruss

Just finished posting on my blog. I am tired. I worked last night and took a short nap but still felt exhausted when I went to the game tonight. It was a great night. Andre with 3 homeruns and 6 rbis won the game. The look on his face was priceless. He looks like a little boy who can’t believe what he did. We were still applauding him when he came out to right field. Huge chest bumps after the game!!
Today is the tour. I can’t believe I am still awake. I plan on getting up early and taking care of a few things, going out to breakfast with my Dad, going to my friend’s house so we can ride together to the tour. It will be fun.. I wonder what Joe Pierre is doing now.
    See everyone tomorrow.

    Hello ITD boys and girls.
After I found out where Joe Pierre was sitting, I went there and watched the game with him from the field level. He left after the 9th inning and prior to the fireworks as he was tired from his long day. I went back to the Top Deck to watch the game from there with my friends. I was listening to Dodger Talk and heard that they were doing the show from the 3rd baseline restaurant in the field level so I headed there. I got in line and thanked Mr. McCourt for bringing Joe Pierre here and also thanked Josh for the tour he is giving us. Anyway, I am tired too. I am still house-sitting/kitty sitting but I’ll go home early tomorrow to take care of some errands, head to the tour/game and then come back to kitty-sitting.

Great game for Andre. I’m really happy for him. I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to make the ITD tour after all. I hope you all have a great time though. Joepierre, I’m really glad you were able to make it out for the tour.

Since I live in Mariner country, I had the pleasure of watching last night’s game on a regular local channel, and that along with the result was a treat. Really look forward to seeing tonight’s game and trying to watch out for our ITD’ers in attendance.

BRAVO, ANDRE on an outstanding game. I was thinking of Nelly in particular and figured she would have been at the game. What a treat for you.

With Torre’s comment about playing Pierre once or twice a week as a starter, why does it result that Andre and Kemp will alternate sitting out – why isn’t Manny in the sit-out mode as well. Like, what has he done the last two months that guarantees no days off for him? Are we automatically assuming that he’ll come back to form immediately and be crushing the ball? What if he’s a dud? Have to be assuming that he was taking the prohibited medication for some valid reason – what’s he going to be like without it.
I still say, F Manny, and just keep playing ball the way you have in his absence.

  70. shad80

In June Pierre numbers are 266/.317/.319/.636 0 homeruns 4 rbi’s. Ethier numbers are .296/.374/.667/1.040 including 8 homeruns and 19 rbi’s.
