Sunday Night Bleacher Beach Baseball

Things are looking pretty good these days and they just got better for anyone looking to come out to the series against the A’s. Free parking for the whole series…

For those coming to the ITD tour and game, be on the lookout for all the info tomorrow. Will finally get around to posting the process for buying tickets.

Here’s the lineup for tonight’s game on ESPN…and if you weren’t going to come out tonight because of the Laker game, don’t worry…we’ll have it on several TVs throughout the concourse to support our downtown team.

Pierre, LF

Hudson, 2B

Ethier, RF (The Mailman of Dodgertown)

Blake, 3B

Loney, 1B

Kemp, CF

Furcal, SS (how big was that homer yesterday??)

Ausmus, C

Wolf, P (against his former squad)

Furcal obp doesn’t deserve to be in the lead off spot just yet and I was expected Torre to dropped Furcal down to #8 in the first place. Let’s get them Wolf and Let’s make it a double win with the Lakers and Dodgers tonight.

  2. enchantedbeaver

Heaven forbid Kahli we upset 8 for 38 Pierre’s psyche by batting him 8th or 9th. Heaven forbid they rest him a day also.

    But Furcal, he moves.

  3. kpookiemon

spit, you are onto something…the only two non pitchers with a worse OBP than Furcal are Hoffmann and DeWitt. Billingsley has a better OBP. Hey…bat Billingsley lead-off next time!!!!!

  4. enchantedbeaver

That’s Juan .250 .211 .211 leading off his last 9 games Pierre. And we wonder why the offense is stalled?

    Furcal the last 9 games .333 .393 .250

I’d rather have Ferk leading off…

  5. shad80

To be honest let’s see what Furcal and Pierre can do in the 8th and 9th spots and put Hudson Ethier and Kemp.

  6. trublu4ever

Good Afternoon everyone ~ Today the Dodgers take the 3rd game in this 4 game series with the Phillies! DODGERS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! GO DODGER BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. shad80

I can’t believe Josh didn’t mention this one yet but he’s probably waited for tomorrow. Tonight win we would be in the record book and be the 3rd franchises to have 10,000 wins.

  8. andreabb

I have refrained from complaining when they offer promotions during the year to purchase seats in my area cheaper than what I paid as a season ticket holder, but this really bugs me that they’re offering free parking but the people who already purchased preferred parking will park in their regular lots. Do they get a refund? And what about those of us who already purchased general admission parking with our season tickets? Do we get a refund? Or how about handing out vouchers equal to what we already paid for parking at the gate?

  9. nellyjune

Shad – Eric mentioned the 10,000th win the other night, and northstateblues mentioned it this morning. Maybe Josh figured we had it covered already…………..just thinking. We are a pretty smart bunch you know, and you may be right. Josh might be waiting for the Dodgers to win the game first. It’s like talking about a no-hitterbefore it’s happened, maybe we shouldn’t be mentioning this either until it actually happens in fear of jinxing it.

  10. trublu4ever

Shad ~ you are finally back…..much better than Spit!
    .
Knouffbrock ~ I liked Shawn a lot but really knew very little about him. He was kind of private like Andre is. I didn’t even know he liked to play golf. I do know that he was very good friends with Delgado.

  11. shad80

Dang I had a nice day in nascar until Busch and Labonte mess me up and I had a good feeling Stewart was going to win but didn’t want to waste another start on him already since I’m down to 5 left. Johnson and Newman did great but I wish I had played Kahne and Hornish Jr. instead of Kurt Busch and Bobby Labonte.

  12. Dodger4life

I like the new name also Shad :))))
    .
    It’s almost game time…
    .
    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO
    LETS GO DODGERS, LETS GO

  13. oldbrooklynfan

    Hello there ITD
I love this toe to toe with the Phillies, if anything at all, they know that we’re in the league and we certain can block their way to a repeat.
    YES

  14. Dodger4life

    YES WE CAN OLDBROOKLYNFAN!!!!!!
    YES WE CAN OLDBROOKLYNFAN!!!!!!
    .
    First things first though…..GO DODGERS!!!!

  15. nellyjune

Hey enchanted!!! That was googled to me earlier. I was surprised nobody on here posted it yet. Very interesting, yes?

  16. enchantedbeaver

Guess the theory is since we’re playing the AL they wanted an extra position player. Wouldn’t that be just the opposite though? Since we have the DH we wouldn’t need it?

Maybe it has more to do with Loretta not hitting?

  17. enchantedbeaver

BTW, I just wanted you all to know that I no linger look forward to JPs ABs LOL!!!

HE’S BAAAAACK – Slappy rides again!!!

  18. bluecrewgirl

I hadn’t heard about Milton. Too bad for him with all the injuries he’s had, but I do love Dewitt. I have to get my trigger finger ready for switching between the Dodgers and Lakers. Should be a great night of sports.

  19. trublu4ever

Bluecrewgirl ~ I sent my husband to the bedroom to watch the Lakers…….I need my Dodgers here with me! Besides, I don’t get to see the Dodgers on TV very often.

  20. enchantedbeaver

Don’t think Wolf should be throwing too many fastballs right down the middle of the plate to Howard…

  21. bluecrewgirl

Did Matt forget his sunglasses again? It didn’t look like he was wearing them and it didn’t look like he had them on his cap. I would think you’d still need them with the glare that time of night.

  22. northstateblues

Kemp’ll probably be grabbing those shades between innings. Bootsy Collins would probably scold him. “Always bring your sunglasses, Baby!”

Have the Lakers game on the NBA.com gameday, Rick and Charlie on the radio, and the game on TV, muted so I wouldn’t have to listen to that idiot Joe Morgan.

  23. enchantedbeaver

Can anyone on this team hit??? We’re making every starter that pitches against us look like Cy Young lately. Its like watching last years team pre-Manny.

  24. northstateblues

Tru, can’t imagine having to listen to Joe Morgan running wild without Jim Miller to keep him in check.

I’d hate to be stuck on the 110 tonight. Must be exciting in LA tonight, though.

  25. trublu4ever

Next time through the line-up, Enchanted! We’re just lulling the pitcher into a state of soon to be lost confidence.

  26. trublu4ever

NSBlues ~ You are right. Joe Morgan never shuts up. Mr. Expert on Everything! I figure if he was that great he would have been offered a managerial job!

  27. nellyjune

LOL!!! ……………..maybe it’s all in the plan enchanted……making the opposing pitcher think we can’t hit the ball and then the 8th and 9th inning….. let them have it, just killing any hopes their SP may have of getting a win.

  28. nellyjune

I am in the kitchen listening to the game and cooking because that other team is on in the bedroom, and my daughter is watching Finding Nemo.

  29. oldbrooklynfan

I think Torre should make position player bunt more often and why didn’t Raffy try to steal?

  30. northstateblues

Perumike, wonder if those scented towels will finally find a us….

    Um… nevermind, heheheh.

  31. shad80

I don’t know what worst those announce on the Lakers game our our announce and the Giants announces.

  32. nellyjune

So, it was pretty much just admitted by Charlie that JP doesn’t have an arm, and that it is not news to anybody so hence the reason the runner was sent.

  33. bluecrewgirl

Joe Morgan mentioned it too, Nelly. Said it was no secret he had one of the weaker arms in the league, and he likes Pierre. To be fair, he did say some very complimentary things about Andre, and Matt and James too. They interviewed Torre a few minutes ago and he did confirm that Pierre would go back to the bench when Manny comes back.

  34. kpookiemon

Wolf is a very marginal athlete…when a team ties the score or goes ahead it is IMPERATIVE the pitcher throw a zero the flowing half inning. Nice sacrifice, too, just before Pierre singled in the 3rd. It’s the little things that win pennants.

  35. shad80

Wow the Padres ss is pitching and no surprise Reynolds hit a 3 runs homerun off of a non pitcher or maybe he does have experience before/

  36. oldbrooklynfan

The Dodgers could learn a lot by watching how the Phillies maneuver their offense and I hope they did.

  37. kpookiemon

Speaking of the little things, Dodger pitchers have 19 sac bunts in 58 games. That’s about one every three games.

  38. colliethec

    Very true Khali.

    .
BCG — That’s what I had heard him say in an interview 2 or so weeks ago. Basically he said he’d talked to Juan and he new his place with Kemp & Dre being the players they are & the good job they are doing as rising stars.
    .
This is why as an Ethieraholic I’ve not been concerned with Pierre taking his place when Manny is back.

  39. colliethec

Well were down by 2 but at least Wolf is looking like he might get some innings in.
    .
    Let’s get some!!!

  40. trublu4ever

Collie ~ Joe Morgan was saying that this would be a good time to trade Juan (which is what he wants) since he has been playing so well. đŸ™‚

  41. Dodger4life

    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!
    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!
    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!

  42. vl4ecc

I noticed the ESPN announcers mentioning that since JP has made the most of his playing time during Manny’s absence that he could be offered up as trade bait.
    I sure hope so.
    .
    .
    WTG Blake!
    Fear the beard!!!

  43. colliethec

LOL BCG. Patience is what baseball is all about. It’s tough sometimes though!!!
    .
Way to go Casey. Let’s get him in and take advantage of the lead off hit. I want James to hit one out to get Morgan to quite knocking his lack of power.

  44. colliethec

    Tru & vl4 — I heard that.
    .
Hopefully some GM’s are taking notice. Maybe Joe could make some calls for Ned. It could be like one of those dating “Dinner For Eight” programs to set up singles.
    .
    Nice poke James!!!
    .
    Let’s build on this boys!!!

  45. trublu4ever

Collie ~ I’d like James to hit a ball right into Joe’s mouth! However, the single will do đŸ™‚

  46. northstateblues

Nice to see it only took until the 6th inning to get into the Phillies’ bullpen this time.

Let’s see if we can take advantage.

  47. enchantedbeaver

Not to be a stick in the mud, but with what we have left in the OF, I don’t know as they can afford to trade Juan. Paul I think could handle it, but his infection thing leaves him uncertain. Hoffmann needs to be playing AA. And there’s no guarantee Manny won’t get him a 100 game suspension when he gets back. As much as I give JP merciless crap, without him I really don’t think we’d be 20 games over .500.

  48. northstateblues

Phillies player of the game so far: 1B umpire Chris Guccione.

If it holds through 9, Guccione will win a year’s supply of Moxie. Ted Williams says: Make Mine Moxie!

  49. nellyjune

messagebear and his niceness must have rubbed off on you or vice versa. However, I do happen to agree with you, and I am with messagebear to a point. I think we can win this thing without Manny. The key for us is pitching, and it has been since day one of this season. So far, our pitching has done it, but for how long is the question.

  50. enchantedbeaver

Hey, if they could get a good pitcher for Juan, go for it. But to trade him now just to trade him, don’t think that’s particularly wise. I really think that come this winter there will actually be teams come a-callin for Juan when you could put together something of significance.

  51. vl4ecc

I fear that Billy Mays guys beard worse than anyone.
His voice is worse than fingernails an a chalkboard.
    .
    .
CRAP!! Get the hook joe. He launched that one!

  52. trublu4ever

Enchanted ~ I don’t think the Juanpians have anything to worry about. Joe likes him and will want to keep him.

  53. bluecrewgirl

That happened fast. I switched over to the Lakers for a few and turn it back to see we’re down 5-2.

  54. northstateblues

Even with that Dinger, the best the Phils can hope for today is a split with the Dodgers here and a 3-4 series record. And a set of steak knives.

  55. enchantedbeaver

Looks like Wolf is bound and determined to give this game away.

Wolf is what he is – a #4 starter who basically throws junk. He can get away with it sometimes, and sometimes he can’t. If Wolf goes 10-10, 12-11 its a successful season for him.

  56. colliethec

I wish our catcher could do that on occasion.
    .
Time for our bully. Wifey is getting annoyed.

  57. bluecrewgirl

Lol, v4, cooked well done I would say. I don’t count the Dodgers out though the way things have gone this season.

  58. enchantedbeaver

I just hope one of these nights we can find a starter we can pound on. Can’t expect a gem everynight.

  59. 32and53fan

Dang… I leave the TV to go do some business and the next thing I hear is two dingers and three runs scored!
Come on guys – get it back.

  60. colliethec

We are only down by 4. That is a salami. We’ve got time & we seem to have some magic this year.
    .
We are into their bully now which is pretty good but we’ve beaten them b4. Let’s beat them again!
    .
    Let’s go Dodgers!!!!

  61. Dodger4life

Come on Boy’s time to kick it in gear…
    .
    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!
    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!
    LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO!!!!!!!!

  62. vl4ecc

Can anyone else think of a good slob humor classic comedy? I had a blast, and laughed so hard my stomach hurt last season with Blazing Saddles, Animal House, and Caddyshack quotes on here.

  63. trublu4ever

vl4 ~ if the Cleaver Clan were here, they would certainly have the slob humor classic comedy!

  64. enchantedbeaver

You know, this game isn’t bothering me. Had to figure that between Kersh, Kuroda, Milton and Wolf we were probably going to lose two. Then when you figure in that Philly is play well and we’re not, a split isn’t awful.

  65. enchantedbeaver

You know, this game isn’t bothering me. Had to figure that between Kersh, Kuroda, Milton and Wolf we were probably going to lose two. Then when you figure in that Philly is play well and we’re not, a split isn’t awful.

  66. vl4ecc

    I’m tracking with you enchanted.
These ARE the best two teams in the NL. Pretty evenly matched, with the exception of HR’s. I have the feeling they will be meeting again in the post season.
Of course we’re all hoping for a different outcome this year!

  67. enchantedbeaver

Don’t know how that posted twice – I only hit submit once.

What new and improved wonders at the start of next season will MLB have for ths blog? Be nice if someday they’d fix this one.

  68. 32and53fan

LOL – sorry I jinxed the game folks.
I am just happy that despite feeling lousy all weekend, I was able to service my car’s cooling system and change the thermostat myself saving an $85 labor charge.
We may not have the Hollywood Squares to kick around anymore but there are plenty of other TV shows to mess with.
Here is a quote paraphrased from the Sopranos:
Joe Torre – “The Phillies are so far up my a** that I taste Brillcreem.”

  69. trublu4ever

I hate to admit it, vl4, but I love that movie!!! It cracks me up! Almost as much as Porky’s lol

  70. vl4ecc

Remember “Lassie.” That was a much younger Kim Cattral waaay before her Sex in the City days.

  71. trublu4ever

32and53 ~ I had to put my car to sleep. It will cost me $3000 to fix it and since it’s a ’94 Camaro, we decided we are just going to sell it as is!

  72. trublu4ever

I remember ALL the Lassies. In fact, my Dad got me an autograph from Lassie (and Rudd Weatherwax) when I was a kid. He happened to be at a place where they were signing.

  73. bluecrewgirl

Are the Dodgers paying ESPN to talk Pierre up for a trade? They have gone on and on about him the entire game compared to the rest of the team.

  74. oldbrooklynfan

With very timely hitting and magnicent pitching, especially the bullpen we earned a spit with the Phillies.
I Think we we’re ready for Qctober.

  75. trublu4ever

BCG ~ You’d think we don’t have anybody else on the team! They don’t like James (doesn’t hit enough homeruns) and we just can’t be as good as our record because of our lack of power. However, when it comes to the playoffs, it is the pitching that usually wins.

  76. oldbrooklynfan

Pierre (not me) is something to talk about.
Sometimes I think he should have been born right handed.
I think he could’ve been a fine infielder.
No power but at least he’s a .300 hitter.

  77. bluecrewgirl

Goodnight vl4. I have to go back to work tomorrow after a week off, so I know what you mean.

  78. kpookiemon

Dodgers could EASILY have been swept…I’ll take the split. Dodgers may be able to win games without Manny…maybe even win the West without Manny, but come crunch time, when the collars get a little tighter and teams see nothing but the best pitching, the Dodgers will go only as far as Manny takes them. Sorry to have to say it. But as good as Ethier, Loney, Kemp MIGHT become, they’re not October players…yet. Russell, I can’t even include you in the previous sentence.

  79. nellyjune

See, you shouldn’t have brought it up!!! (jk) It’s okay Shad….. we will win the next one. Remember, we haven’t lost more than two in a row all season.

Milton on DL, DeWitt recalled from Triple-A
    4 hours, 22 minutes ago

Buzz up! PrintLOS ANGELES (AP)—Veteran left-hander Eric Milton(notes) was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday because of tightness in his back.

The 33-year-old Milton pitched 4 1-3 innings on Friday night against Philadelphia and allowed eight hits and three runs, one of which was earned. He did not complain to manager Joe Torre of any discomfort after the game.

The Dodgers signed Milton as a minor league free agent on Feb. 10, after he spent an entire season out of the big leagues while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

He is 2-0 with a 2.89 ERA in four starts.

The Dodgers won’t need a fifth starter again until June 20, because of three off days in the calendar between now and their interleague series with the Angels in Anaheim. Right-hander Eric Stults(notes), whose sprained thumb forced the Dodgers to recall Milton, is expected to resume his starting role when he comes off the 15-day DL. He is eligible on June 15.

Infielder Blake DeWitt(notes) was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill the Dodgers’ vacant roster spot. He appeared in 117 games, playing mostly third and second base, with the Dodgers last season and batted .264 with nine homers in 52 RBIs.

  81. shad80

I know enchanted mention this but it suck for Milton. What really suck is the person who wrote this calling Stults right handed when we known he’s left handed. WB Dewitt we surely missed you here,

  82. Dodger4life

Khali no offense to your thoughts…But I know you are wrong…and you can quote me on that. Our guys are October guy’s…………

  83. kpookiemon

Dodger4life, I love your spirit…but I think that’s your heart talking! Nothing would please me more than for you to be right on. But this great game of baseball takes a goodly long while to conquer…let alone master. Manny, love him or hate him, is a bonafide October player. And there ain’t many…..

  84. nellyjune

So,the Dodgers have tomorrow off. That is good for the team, boring for us. Who’s going to come up with tomorrow’s topic of conversation. Maybe Josh and his info on the tour will help, but we will need some talking points as well đŸ™‚

  85. cpompe1

Good evening ITD boys and girls!!!
Okay, I’ve been off for a few days. I’m thrilled that Andre’s doing better. I am quite certain that Andre’s hitting funk is getting further and further behind him. I didn’t hear that about Milton going onto the DL and Blake DeWitt coming back. I didn’t know until I saw Blake come up to the plate today. I’m thrilled that Blake’s back.

My Nellygirl! Maybe tomorrow’s day off is just what our boys need to get them out of their collective hitting funk (although, our boy is doing better!!!) and pitching woes…

  86. Dodger4life

Nelly there is alway’s trivia day đŸ™‚
    .
And Andre’s recent success, Troncoso’s wizardry on the mound so far, Broxtons emergence. Hey I love the O-Dog, I’m still up for basking in the limelight that was the cycle, I can go on and on……..Belisario’s blessing…….The fact that this club has dealt with adversity and remains in good terms as a team coming together instead of the other option, on and on Nelly.

  87. Dodger4life

It is good CP, How have you been??? I keep praying for you and now sparkleplenty also, that includes my normal prayer for everyone as a group.

  88. nellyjune

It so good to see all that Dodger4life!!!!! You are absolutely correct?

As for trivia – Eric is always good at some good trivia. He’s got so much of it in that photographic memory brain of his.

……….and cp – Our boy is doing an Ethieriffic job. He is on a 7-game hitting streak, which is a very good sign.

  89. cpompe1

Thx D4! I KNOW I can always count on you! Yes, I still need the prayers, so keep them coming. Yes, I remember that Sparkle needs it too. Tough times, for sure. I’m sure that now that we’re well into June, ID has A LOT better weather than that freezing stuff you have to deal with in the winter!!!

Well, like I said before, I can confidently say that Andre is out of his slump!!! Now, we just need the rest of the guys to get on board the hitting wagon. Or at least, hitting with runners on base.

  90. cpompe1

Yes Nelly – Our boy is doing terrifically!!! I didn’t realize that he is on a 7-game hitting streak!!! That’s great!!! So how are you and the family? How’s the Academy?

  91. cpompe1

    Glad to hear that D4!!!

I’ve never been that good at it, but Nelly, perhaps I’ll think of some trivia for tomorrow!

  92. nellyjune

CP – Our family is doing great, and the Academy is doing well also. We are changing hours for the summer…………more daytime hours since the kids are out of school.

Dodger4life – I am glad the weather is much better up there in Idaho :)))))))

  93. cpompe1

So Nelly, are you going to go the game the night of our ITD tour? My husband and I already had tickets for that night! It’d be great if you were there with us!!!

  94. nellyjune

CP – I am pretty sure we are. Kahli had asked about getting a group rate for those of us going on the tour, so I will probably wait until that info comes out. We are planning on driving up Friday and coming back Sunday late or Monday. Is your husband going on the tour as well? Mine is staying back because Michael has a baseball tournament. Mariya and her half and half self are going though. She is wearing blue and white though……………I told her no orange or black is allowed on the tour – LOL!!!

  95. cpompe1

Nelly, I’m glad that Mariya is coming and will be wearing blue and white!!! Yes, Jim was able to get the day off from work! Hmm, I posted that as a note to Josh a while ago. It was towards the end of a thread, so if you didn’t see it, perhaps Josh didn’t see it either…

  96. cpompe1

Reposted from a week ago. Josh, I’m not sure if you saw this before, but in case you didn’t, here it is. If you did, pls forgive the reposting…

    Can’t stay long…

    *** Note to Josh ***
Just got word from my husband; he got the day off work on 6/27/09 and will be able to make it to our ITD tour!!! Yeah!!! So for me, it’s 2 adults coming!!!

Okay, now a note my fellow ITDers:
I know I’ve said on here that my husband is a Cubbies and Angels fan, but do me a BIG favor please!!! When it comes time for the tour, please don’t knock him for his choices of favorite baseball teams!!! Thx!!!

    GO DODGERS!!!
    GO KURODA-SAN!!!

  97. nellyjune

Don’t go by whether I saw anything in the last couple of weeks. I really didn’t pay too much attention to all of like I usually do, as I was finishing up my school year.

  98. cpompe1

So speaking of school being over, I take it you spend most of your hours at the academy? Or are you just vegging out for a while?

  99. nellyjune

Well, tomorrow is my first official vacation day, and no…I don’t have to spend any time down at the academy if I don’t want to. I actually have to go back to school this week and unpack some of my stuff onto shelves or else the custodians won’t be able to wax the floors in my new room. All of my stuff is currently all ove the floor because the teacher’s room I am moving into wasn’t even close to being out yet. I was supposed to be able to just move my things from one shelf in my old room to another shelf in my new room, but it certainly didn’t go that way. It was a fiasco, and I was very emotionally upset all day. I didn’t get to spend any quality time with my class because I had to spend the time packing instead. I was not a happy Kemper that day at all. My kids thought I was upset with them because they could tell I was upset, and I had to convince them it had nothing to do with them being bad…………I was upset because I couldn’t spend time with them.

  100. cpompe1

Sorry Nelly, I know I asked you some questions, but I’m getting sleepy, so I’m gonna go. I’ll catch up with ya tomorrow…

  101. cpompe1

Sorry your day was so frustrating Nelly. Good luck in getting your stuff moved into your new room.

Okay, now I’ll go!!! Goodnight Nelly…

  102. dodgereric

OK, trivia day it is! Unfortunately, I can’t be around for a while, but I’d love to get it started. We probably won’t stick with baseball trivia, but we should at least start with it.

Let’s try and solve them on our own – no Googling for the answers! Here’s one I found on the Internet:

Which of the following rules resulted when the New York Knickerbockers and other baseball clubs banded together to form the National Association of Baseball Players in 1858?
    A) The umpire was given the power to call strikes.
    B) Players were no longer allowed to catch the ball in their caps.
    C) No player was ever to be paid; baseball was to remain an amateur’s game.
    D) All of the above.

Here’s one for an on-going discussion:
Back in 1973, Ford Frick was asked for 10 records that he thought would never be broken. A dangerous task to be sure, and several of them have bitten the dust.

    1) Cy Young’s pitching record of 511 games won during his lifetime career.

    2) Charles Radburn’s record of sixty pitching victories in a single season.

    3) Kid Nichol’s feat of winning thirty or more games per season for seven consecutive seasons.

    4) Walter Johnson’s lifetime record of 3,508 strikeouts.

    5) Lou Gehrig’s record of 2,130 consecutive games.

    6) The record of one-hundred or more runs batted in for thirteen consecutive seasons – also by Lou Gehrig.

    7) Ty Cobb’s record of 4,191 lifetime hits.

    8) Joe DiMaggio’s record of hitting safely in fifty-six consecutive games.

    9) Babe Ruth’s lifetime record of 2,056 bases on balls.

    10) Don Larsen’s perfect World Series game. This one may be matched some day but it will never be beaten. You can’t beat perfection.

My question to you ITD buddies is this: What record do YOU think will never be broken?

Personally, along with the aforementioned Cy Young’s 511 wins, I think it’s safe to say that his 749 complete games won’t be touched. And if you cry ‘foul’ because he started his career before the Modern Era, I’ll throttle it back to Walter Johnson’s total of 531. It’s one of the records that will never be touched because the game has changed and will never go back. If you averaged 25 complete games for 20 years, you’d still be 31 short.

We ask and we shall receive đŸ™‚ Thank you Dodgereric!!!

    2) Charles Radburn’s record of sixty pitching victories in a single season.
    ……………………………….
With the pitching rotation the way it is, can this ever be accomplished again? Probably not…….. If you have a 5 man rotation, the 5th guy in the rotation occasionally gets skipped over if there is a day off. At the most, each pitcher would only pitch 36.4 games if the rotation was divided evenly amongst the 5 pitchers in the rotation. ……..and nowadays a 20 game victory season, you can be considered for the CY young award.

    5) Lou Gehrig’s record of 2,130 consecutive games.
    …………………………………
JP was trying to get there, and that ended on Opening Day 2008.

Dodgereric ~ except for a possible perfect World Series game, a la Larson, I don’t thing ANY of the records will be broken.

  106. trublu4ever

Pitchers don’t pitch any more………players get tired and need days off and mostly managers screw around with things way too much.

  107. trublu4ever

I guess, since you said could be matched but never broken, I’ll hve to eliminate the perfect World Series game, Dodgereric. Therefore NONE of the records will ever be broken!

As far as the trivia question, I do know (probably through you somehow or one of the many books you have recommended I read) that “called strikes” were introduced in 1858. I seriously doubt they ever had a rule that prevented players from getting paid, and that eliminates the “all of the above” so I am going with “B” as my final answer.

I’ll play. I’ll say “D” because I’m an All of the Above kinda guy.

None of the first three pitching feats will ever be remotely approached again. Game’s changed far too much to even get close to 30 wins in a single year. Who was the last – Denny McLain? and that was what 40 or so years ago?

6/8/10 would be extremely tough to pull off, but at least there’s an outside chance it could happen.

There is one record that isn’t on there… Juan Pierre’s record of 5 consecutive years of at least 450 slappy outs. LMAO!!

  111. trublu4ever

LMTO, Enchanted!!!!!!!!!!!! I bet he thinks he could have set the consecutive games played record, too!

    Good Morning all,
TRIVIA TIME…COOL. OK I will have to go with B, just because Ihave not seen a player catch a ball with their cap. And for the Record Breaking question I will say Lou Gehrig’s record of 2,130 consecutive games because they don’t play 2,130 consecutive games.

  113. enchantedbeaver

Now THERE’s a record no one will ever get close to – Cal’s 2,632 consecutive games streak. That’s more than 16 seasons of never missing a game. Nowadays these guys get a fart crossways and they’re day-to-day.
