Andre Ethier – the mailman of Dodgertown

I never got around to posting the lineup today, as we were busy with the news conference to announce 90090 as the official new zip code of Dodgertown. It’s pretty cool that we’re the first team ever to have that distinction. And we’ve gotta give a shout out to George Barajas, who has been sorting the mail here at Dodger Stadium for 23 years. He was part of the pregame ceremony, as were a lot of our friends at the post office. And of course, it all started with Jamie McCourt, who has been the driving force to get it done along with the help of Tommy Lasorda and many others behind the scenes.

But I guess it’s Andre Ethier who is the new Mailman of Dodgertown. He seems to deliver every day.

This team is really something else. Back-to-back nights, down by a run in the ninth, they’ve found a way to win and both times, it’s been Andre coming through in the clutch. And in case you didn’t watch the game, that’s his sixth walk-off in the last two seasons, more than anyone else in baseball.

Hope you all make it out tomorrow for the series finale or tune into ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball (or KABC). For those who missed Bleacher Beach last week, it should be a hot spot again manana.

Way to go Dodgers! Great pitching, great defense and very clutch hitting by Andre and Raffy! This team never disappoints. Keep up the good work Dodger Blue!

  3. shad80

These Philly fans can’t be serious and there is no way the NL west is the worst division this year.

  4. bluesplash09

Just back from the game and once again the Dodgers make it happen, it’s been so exciting to be there the past couple days (i was there thursday too, but had nothing to cheer about) i’ll be at the finale tommorrow in the all u can eat seats and hopefully we take 3 of 4 from these jerks, if we do it’ll be a long drive back to new mexico for my phillie friend who is out here with me! GO DODGERS!!

So glad he’s come around before Manny comes back so no one will say it’s because of Manny. Don’t get me wrong, I know Manny makes everyone around him better, but Andre was a quallity hitter before Manny came as Karros also pointed out today, so it’s great to see him fight his way out of it on his own.

    ……………………………………………………..

Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!!!!! I just got home from a long day of highschool baseball, knowing that our Dodgers did the remarkable once again, and I had to see what everyone had to say. I will be watching the main highlights of the game later on, but this is just one amazing team. Enchanted is right. We really aren’t playing to our full potential, and we are still winning. It will be amazing to see what happens when the entire team is running on all cylinders with batting, especially. What a ride this is going to be.

    Kahli – love the name

    Dodger4life – love the saying

bluecrewgirl – I couldn’t agree with you more

    jhall – thank you kindly

  6. nellyjune

Also – I have to thank all my facebook/ITD buddies for keeping in the loop – Dodger4life, trublu, collie, ramslover, sara, and dodge1612. I was reading your status updates and comments which were great!!!

  7. twinsfan4ever

Hey everyone. I’m a big fan and friend of Dodger great Maury Wills and was looking forward to seeing the presentation to Maury on the game of the week today on FOX. I live in North Dakota and we got the Twins game instead so I did not get to see it. Maury does the color part time on the radio for our local independent team the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks. I had a long talk with him on Tuesday and he told me he was very excited and honored that the Dodgers were going to do this for his 50th anniversary of Maury first game in the Majors. I was wondering how it went. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

  8. nellyjune

twinsfanforever – Even though it looks like I am the only one in the ITD room at the moment, and I did not see the game. However, I am sure someone will be along to help you out, either by way of articles or maybe even video if you are lucky. BTW – great duo you have in Mauer and Morneau. I actually gave all my AL catching votes to Mauer. He is just awesome!!! Take care, and hopefully someone will be around shortly to help you out.

  9. kpookiemon

“On the 50th anniversary of Dodger SS Maury Wills’ major league debut, the club presented him with second base when the team took the field for the Phillies’ second inning. This time, he didn’t have to steal it. Wills swiped 104 bases in 1962, a modern-day big league record at the time.”

  10. enchantedbeaver

Hey Nells it looks like Dre has definitely turned the corner.

Wish Marty could get even a trace of something going. He just looks like he hasn’t a clue anymore. Sit him for a week, send him to a sports psychologist, give him a feather and tell him he can fly – something. Don’t know why JoJo insists on batting him 4-5 everyday.

JP’s jumped off the cliff. I suspected by the time Manny got back he’d be cool, but he’s going down faster than a $20… well he’s falling off rapidly. Wouldn’t you say he’s due for a game or two time off? Watching him today he’s back to slappy outs – has been for over a week now.

Was great to see Wade pitch today like he did last year. Hopefully he can keep that up. Don’t know what to expect out of Wolf tomorrow, but maybe if he trusts Ausmus like he did the last 4 innings of his last outing, we’ll have a good shot again tomorrow.

  11. trublu4ever

Kahli ~ I’m sure twinsfan4ever wil appreciate you information.
    .
Twinsfan4ever ~ Maury Wills is still one of my all time favorite Dodgers. A great player and a wonderful human being.

  12. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Good evening to anyone still in the room. I’ve also felt that this team isn’t, as of yet, firing on all cylinders. Let’s face it, if anyone had told any of us before the season that the D’s would be 20 games over .500 and in 1st place by 9 games in the first week of June with Manny in the middle of a 50- game suspension, Kuroda on the DL for all the first 6 weeks of the season, Russell, Andre, and Furcal having subpar first halves, we’d have had that person custom fitted for a straight jacket. So enchanted’s point is very well taken. Even if the above three completely rebound and we get a highly productive Manny back, we’d be hard pressed to improve on our current record but, then again, who knows???

  13. kpookiemon

enchanted, I like the idea of the feather. What I don’t get is Uncle Joe’s take on Martin (according to the Fox announcers, and I paraphrase)…that Martin hasn’t figured himself out yet…that he doesn’t have a plan for his abilities…and then our beloved Uncle Joe throws him into the middle of the line-up day after day after day after day after day after day after day………………………….

  14. nellyjune

Good Evening enchanted – It really is good to see Andre turn the corner on this slump, and in such a huge way too. Like bluecrewgirl said, he was hitting well before Manny ever came along, and he really had to find it within himself to do it this time and he did. As I am typing this, I am listening to the highlight of our game again…………….what a great sound it is too. Andre has increased his average 14 points in the last 10 games (.257 to .271), and JP has dropped 48 points in his average in the last 10 games (.407 to .359). As for Russell – another 0-4 day with a walk. I didn’t see the game so I can’t comment on anything, but he is now batting where Andre dropped to …………….a .251 BA.

  15. enchantedbeaver

When you think about it sky, there were 4-5 games (especially the Washington game) that they just blew or this team could be 28-30 games over .500.

I think its time for Ferk to go back to leadoff and drop Slappy back down to 8 or 9. Marty will take tomorrow off I’m sure, but then he needs to bat no higher than 7 (assuming Pierre’s 9. Otherwise, bat Marty 8.) Let’s keep Dre batting third and interchange Blake and Loney 4-5. Eventually they’re going to find someone they can hit and when they do, hopefully it’ll kickstart the entire team.

  16. enchantedbeaver

The trouble with JP (OK one of the many) – and I’m sure I’ll incur some wrath here and there – is that yes, he’s entitled to battle his way out of his slump just like Dre and Marty and the rest of the gang, but when he does he’ll still be nothing better than good ol’ Juan for 4. Ol’ Juan needs to bat 8 or 9 and sit long and hard on the bench when Manny gets back. (Not that that means I condone Manny’s juicing, but the reality is when he gets back he IS going to play, and Juan once again doesn’t warrant playing time over Kemp or Dre.)

  17. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

I don’t have any argument with those moves, either, E…..Russell just seems to be totally lost at the plate these days. He doesn’t seem to have any plan in place when he gets in the box. What’s happened to him, too, is that the NL pitchers have made adjustments in their approach to him and he needs to make adjustments in return, which, he, obviously, hasn’t done. He needs to take stock of what he does and doesn’t do well, relax, make the adjustments, and take what the pitchers give him each AB. I think the talent’s still there but he just needs to make better use of it.

  18. nellyjune

twinsfanforever – If you look in our photo gallery on the bottom right hand corner of our homepage, there is a great picture of Maury Wills with the 2nd base that was given to him.

  19. nellyjune

Okay – after seeing the rest of the photos in the gallery, I want to be part of the right field pavillion, just so I can be part of that awesome display of Andre supporters. Ethieraholics shirts definitely need to be made.

  20. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, sorry you missed the game, but glad you’re getting to see the highlights. I’ve watched the clip of Andre’s hr about 10 times already, lol. Not just because I’m so happy for him, but it’s so great to see the entire team celebrate at home plate. Enchanted, I agree. I am not trying to take anything away from what Pierre has contributed while Manny’s been out. It’s been very important. Bottom line is that when all is said and done, he’s not as good as Andre and Matt. They are both better defenders and both can change the outcome of a game with one swing of the bat, something he doesn’t do very often. Seesky, you may need to get a backup flask if they keep winning like this.

  21. enchantedbeaver

Don’t know about you guys, but I thought Kamp was going to get booted for arguing the third strike his last AB. I really thought Bowa or Torre should’ve been out there immediately to back him off. I thought the ump showed some pretty good restraint not tossing him, especially after he threw his helmet. Who would’ve played the OF had he been tossed – Marty? I think Ausmus was all we had left on the bench.

  22. bluecrewgirl

Btw, I felt really sorry for Russell when they showed him on the bench after his last at bat. I hope he comes around soon. I don’t think batting clean up helped. He puts a lot of pressure on himself like Andre does. Too bad Loney doesn’t hit for more power, because never seems to get ruffled about things, which is a good emotional make up for clean up. I really like Andre in the 3 spot, I doubt he’ll get to bat there much this season.

  23. trublu4ever

Enchanted ~ I also thought he was going to get tossed. We would have rhad a problem too, because as you say, who was left? I think the home plate umpire was showboating a little bit calling a third strike late, almost as the batter was going to first base. He did it when Blake pinch hit. And, then again with Matt.

  24. enchantedbeaver

Initially I thought that third strike call was a bit low and outside, but on the replay it was pretty damn close – could’ve gone either way. I did think one other pitch in that AB though that was called a strike was waaaay outside.

  25. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

I think we all knew that, sooner or later, that JP would star in his own remake of “The Man Who Fell To Earth”. His job was to be productive while Manny was out and, for the most part, he’s succeeded. But, his wave is ending and he’s about to take a powder off his surfboard…..Bluecrew, if we keep winning like this, we won’t need a backup flask, we’ll need to break ground on a distillery. Maybe Frank can suggest a good real estate agent.

  26. enchantedbeaver

Juan’s performed admirably, even superhumanly for a month in Manny’s absence. At this point in time he’s still the third best outfielder on the team and should play. BUT, he’s playing like he could use a day off, and he definitely should be hitting now at the bottom of the order.

  27. bluecrewgirl

Trublu, I thought he was showboating a bit too. He must have wanted his closeup on national tv ): I know Loney has played a little outfield, but not very well as he almost seriously hurt himself doing it a few seasons ago and Andre did work out at first base a little last season, so I guess they could have switched in a pinch, but it probably wouldn’t have been pretty, lol.

  28. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl – I think I have watched it about 10 times myself and for the same reason too. It’s really shows he was capable all along, and just had to figure out for himself, by listening to coaching and to himself, how to get back on track.

  29. trublu4ever

I agree Juan needs a day or two off. Pretty soon they will probably send Hoffmann down som why not ket him play a game or two and let Juan pinch hit, if necessary. I know X Paul was released from the hospital and not sure if he is well enough to play. But, I’d give him a game or two also. I don’t think it would prevent us from winning to play either Hoffmann of Paul.

  30. enchantedbeaver

This is why we need to dump the 13 man staff. Why is Schlichting even up? – he hasn’t even been in a game. If Joe’s not going to use him, then its a total waste of a roster spot that we could use for another bench player.

  31. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Bluecrew, actually, if Russell had more of James’ mindset, he’d probably be a lot more productive. James has a handle on what he does and doesn’t do well and stays within himself. He knows he isn’t a power hitter and doesn’t try to be. At this point, Russell doesn’t know who he is and needs to figure it out.

  32. trublu4ever

I might be the only one around who thinks Russell will snap out of his funk and be a big part of our road to the World Series.

  33. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

I think he’s capable of doing it, tru, but whether he will or not is another story.

  34. bluecrewgirl

I agree, seesky, I wish Andre had a little more of James calmness too. I wouldn’t want him not to be passionate like he is, it’s part of his game, just to learn not to let it get out of control during the tough times. One caller on Dodger Talk did make a very good point though, which was that Russell has done a very good job overall of handling the pitching staff and that is the # one priority of his job. He needs to remind himself of that fact.

  35. enchantedbeaver

Maybe Marty needs one of Ned’s “mystery ailments”, go on the 15-day DL, check into the Betty Ford Clinic for Wayward Catchers, and snap the hell out of his funk.

I think he’ll come around to some degree eventually, but will he be able to pass Castro in HRs?

  36. trublu4ever

Enchanted ~ Right now, I’d settle for some RBIs from Russ. I think if he drove in a few runners, he’d feel better and then maybe, the homers will come.

  37. enchantedbeaver

I just wish he’d take the damn bat off his shoulder once in awhile.

Honestly though, I don’t know if I’m more upset that he’s hasn’t a clue what he’s doing up there, or more upset that Joe keeps putting him 4-5 and setting him up to fail.

  38. bluecrewgirl

I always crack up watching Matt during the celebrations at home plate after a big victory. His love for the game really shows.

  39. bluecrewgirl

It definitely helped Andre while he was in his slump when Joe moved him around a bit to take some pressure off. I think it would help Russell too. I think Joe moved Russell to 8th last season when he came out of it and had a strong 2nd half.

  40. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

I remember, in particular, an AB Russell had in the Mets playoff series his first year. He went down to one knee to get a pitch by Chad Bradford and just served it into LF for a base hit. I’m convinced he has the ability. He just needs to apply it.

  41. trublu4ever

Just watched the highlight, again, of Andre’s back to back walk-offs and it is so cool. They are just like a bunch of kids! And, the hug with Joe was the perfect touch.

  42. trublu4ever

Seesky ~ that’s what Karros was saying during the game. Everyone thinks he has the ability to be great except for Russell himself! So, a little confidence boost would be just what the doctor ordered.

  43. kpookiemon

I love Martin…but Uncle Joe should play Ausmus a few games…It’ll do them both some good…geez, is Martin awful lately…Dodgers have Monday and Thursday off…Kershaw to be skipped, right?…extra rest for his valuable left arm? enchanted, you mentioned the Dodgers would be flying high if they’d closed the deal on a few games. I’ll give you one–the Washington game that broke the home streak. But the last two games prove you win a few you had no right winning. Add in the five runs in the 8th against Arizona last week. Stole that game. The Dodgers aren’t as good as their record????!?!?!…but they will be when Manny gets back. I’d forgotten just how dominating Kuroda can be. He has looked nasty…11 innings, 5 hits, 11 Ks.

  44. bluecrewgirl

That would be a great idea. They must read ITD from time to time I would say from reading that headline.

  45. trublu4ever

I think more people than we think read ITD, Bluecrewgirl. Sometimes it’s a good thing and then there are times when we are down right ridiculously funny! lol

  46. trublu4ever

I’m going to have to wish you all a good night. I’m worn out from having my 3 year old grandson’s birthday party at my house today. See you tomorrow when we take 3 out of 4 from the Phillies!!!

  47. enchantedbeaver

Gotta wonder what people think when we do a song. Hell, I wonder what Josh thinks when we do a song.

  48. enchantedbeaver

    Goodnight Tru!!

All I have right now are dogs. Fortunately none of them have made me a grandparent yet.

  49. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Good night, tru!!! We should have a Phantastic day tomorrow beating the Phillies again on national TV!!!!

  50. kpookiemon

enchanted, here’s the song in my headphones when you mentioned songs…so in honor of our beloved Prodigal Son…baseball’s hate-flavor of the month…a cheater we all still love, so why fight it….??????????!??!???!?!?!?!?!?

The world is treating me bad… Manny.

    I’m the kind of guy,
    Who never used to cry,
The world is treatin’ me bad… Manny!

We’ve lost him now for sure,
we won’t see him no more,
    It’s gonna be a drag… Manny!

I remember all the little things he’s done
Can’t he see he’ll always be the only one, only one.

    Send him back to me,
    ‘Cause everyone can see
Without him there will be no Manny

I remember all the little things he’s done.
He’ll remember and he’ll miss his only team, lonely team.

    Send him back to me,
    ‘Cause everyone can see,
Without him there will be no Manny
    Manny (ooh ooh ooh)
Manny (la la la la la la)

  51. nellyjune

I was out of town, so I missed the three year old birthday party. However, the trade off was I had to spend the day with a car full of teenage boys.

  52. bluecrewgirl

Teenage boys can wear you out too, Nelly, lol. My 14 year old nephew can wear me out just by himself.

  53. nellyjune

    Fantastic Kahli!!!!!!!

    Good Night seesky!!!!!!

bluecrewgirl – On SOSG they give credit to Dodger Thoughts coming up with the term Squeethier, so they better be giving ITD credit for Ethieraholic.

  54. enchantedbeaver

If Ethier fans are Ethierholics, Martin fans are Martinistas, Kemp fans a Happy Kempers, and Manny fans are Manniacs, what are Loney fans? I mean he’s got a song and all, but he needs a catchy little fanclub name.

  55. bluecrewgirl

That’s true, they did mention that term. I forgot. Yes, they do need to give a shout out to ITD. Those guys that spelled out Ethier on their shirts in the outfield were pretty funny. Great to see his name out there again. It felt like he had fallen off the face of the earth for a few weeks there. He didn’t even get a mention in the media, except to say he was in a slump. Hopefully, he’ll get inspired for a new blog entry soon.

  56. nellyjune

Loneytics? …………kind of like “lunatics” ……………….I don’t know……….. kind of sounds like lonely tics – LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. nellyjune

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! The Loneytics are on the loose again in the land of Ethieraholics and Juapians, only to be met by the Martinistas and the Happy Kempers. Stay tuned as they all live out the drama of living in Torreville at Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine.

  58. nellyjune

Good Night enchanted – always good to see and chat with you as well. Take care and let’s hope we can get 3 out of 4 tomorrow.

  59. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, not that I would do it because I wouldn’t post smack on another team’s blog, but it would give our friend Phan a taste of his own medicine to post, You’ve got mail, from the Mailman of Dodgertown, Andre Ethier, LOL!

  60. bluecrewgirl

I’d like to be able to hear Charlie’s call of the hr on radio today. I wonder if there’s a clip of it anywhere.

  61. nellyjune

You can go back and listen to the radio broadcast on mlb.com I would think. That will definitely be worth the listen to, wouldn’t it?

  62. bluecrewgirl

Don’t you have to have a subscription to do that? I don’t have one since I can see all of the games on either Fox Prime or KCAL.

  63. nellyjune

Yes, I do, but I don’t get the LA channels so have invested in both, the audio and visual plans for Dodger games. I usually watch mlb.com/tv until the 9th inning and then I switch to radio because they you can listen to the post game show on KABC with Rick and Charlie, and that usually includes some type of interview with a player, and if mlb.com hasn’t cut me off, you can usually listen to the call-in part of the show with the other Josh. mlb.com/tv version just cuts off as soon as the game is over. I use this only when I can’t watch it on DirectTV.

  64. bluecrewgirl

I listened to part of Dodger Talk on the way to meet my friend for dinner. I missed the beginning and was wondering if they had interviewed Andre or not. I wish they would have Dodger Talk available to listen to online on KABC. It’s hard to get KABC in on the regular radio where I live, the only place it comes in decent is in my car.

  65. nellyjune

I just got done watching Baseball Tonight on ESPN, and they said the Dodgers are on fire, and Andre Ethier is a big part of that. They mentioned the slump, and they mentioned the 6 walk-offs in two seasons and Andre being the only one in the majors to accomplish that goal.

  66. bluecrewgirl

Goodnight, Nelly. I stayed up until like 4 o’clock last night, so I’d better hit the rack. I am dreading going back to work on Monday after being on vacation for a week.

  67. bluecrewgirl

That’s great to hear. I think the slump will be a distant memory very soon and I think he learned a lot from it.

  68. nellyjune

I am going to bed too. I am exhausted from the last week of school and today being in the sun all day just wiped me out. Take Care and let’s hope the Dodgers can get the series tomorrow on ESPN.

  69. nellyjune

…..and why are you a happy man? I know, I know……….but I can’t sleep now. I think it might be because I got burned today and eventhough it is rather cool tonight, I am rather warm.

  70. colliethec

Sorry to hear about the burn Nelly. I just got home from work a little bit ago. I had a long day as I had to open then head a 3 hour break in between & then went back for a meeting and training. Time for bed as I’ve got another long one tomorrow.
    .
    Take care…

  71. nellyjune

Wow!!! Sounds like a tough day and days ahead too. Good Night, take care and God Bless Collie 🙂

  72. northstateblues

    Hi ITD.
Loneytics sounds good. Maybe his cheering section at the stadium could be the Loney Bin.

No one will probably read this ’til morning, but had a late night tonight, so wanted to put in my two cents. In other words: “I come not to praise Caesar, but to bury him”

Coming in late tonight, closed at work. About 45 minutes after I get there, a guest comes up with a Dodgers shirt and hat. After taking his order, I asked him if the Dodgers won, and he said “Yeah, Andre Ethier hit a walk-off Home Run in the 12th Inning.” took everything in me not to go crazy there at the front counter.

Good to see we get the edge over the Phillies again today (and sit at all 9’s [9,999 wins] with a chance to get win # 10,000 against the only team with 10,000 losses). We haven’t won anything yet, though, we’ll probably be seeing them again in October, so although this will be something good to look back on, we need to feed off this in the fall and get to the next level.

10-4 against the NL East so far this year. Haters can say all they want about the “weak” NL West, but we’ve done well against Bristol’s Annointed Favorite NL division. After tomorrow, at WORST we’ll be 10-5 against the NL East, 4-3 against Philly (who only 2 nights ago had a MLB Best Road record that only eclipsed our MLB Best Home record by a half a game) and have a MLB Best record of 39-20. At best… well, I wouldn’t want to gloat so early in June…

That’s what happens when you let your team do the talking for you. This is a new year… but the most the regular season can be is a preamble to October. This year, if we make it to the Postseason, our players will know how good they are from the top down. It’s fulfilling that promise that will be the toughest part, but that’s why championships don’t grow on trees.

  73. trublu4ever

Good Morning ~ Love “Loneytics”! and, NSBlues’ Loney Bin! Way too cool!!!!
    .
    So let’s see, we have………ETHIERAHOLICS
    .
    HAPPY KEMPERS
    .
    MARTINISTAS
    .
LONEYTICS seated in the Loney Bin
    .
Now we need someting for Orlando (perhaps “Dog Pound”?)
Casey Blake, Billz and Broxton. Maybe we can take care of their titles before game time today.

  74. messagebear@msn.com

I’ve been saying much about Martin of late, and adding more to it seems like it would just be piling on. I’d accept his diminished hitting, which is now pretty much at the level of most catchers in the league, if Torre would just drop him to the 7th or 8th slot in the lineup. Putting him in cleanup is just ludicrous and stubborn, and both of those are trademarks of Joe’s at times. Saying that Loney doesn’t belong in cleanup because he lacks power doesn’t make sense either, if you’re comparing it to the alternative of batting Martin in cleanup. At least Loney shows clutch characteristics by leading the team in RBI’s no matter where he’s batting.

I also liked Ethier batting third, and I think that would be his best and natural spot, assuming, of course, that JP really belongs at the bottom of the order where he found his resurgence, and Furcal might regain his form if he was left in leadoff, where he’s been most productive all of his career.

    Good Morning ITD,

What A game! I like that tag “the Mailman” for Dre, just has to keep delivering. Kuroda really impressed me, and Loneys and Hudson defense saved the game.
The bad spot was Castos Pick off and perhaps not martin moving runners over. But Raffy really saved us!
    Lets go Dodgers

  76. trublu4ever

Koufax ~ to tell you the truth, when Castro got picked off, I thought……uh, oh, this is going to cost us big time. It almost did until Raffy saved us, as you said. Wow, what a finish!

  77. Dodger4life

    Good Morning ITD, Dodger Faithful,
    .
Those Walk off celebrations are something special and it could’nt of happened to a better guy. Andre thanks for the enjoyment and excitement. This team is amazing and fun to watch, I can only dream of how the players must feel.
    .
The pitching staff has been superb, they for the most part just keep getting it done. What a team.
    .
I am just giving my opinion here as far as Martin. He has had to absorb a gallon of imformation, and try and fit it into a shot glass, he has the hardest job on the field. Ausmus has been tutoring Martin, as to make him more knowledgable and a better player in the future. Patience will prevail. I believe Russ will be better for this as the season goes along and in future years.
    .
Congratulations to Raffy on his home run yesterday!!!!
    .
Andre what can I say, ( The Eitheraholics are Happy ) as are we all.
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!!!!

nsblues – just a fabulous entry once again, and Loney Bin sounds perfect.

tru – we do need to think of names for our position players and perhaps our pitchers as well, who have not been given names yet.

messagebear – You are right, there are many catchers not batting well right now, but like you said, they aren’t batting 4th or 5th in the lineup either. And, I do like Ethier batting 3rd. It really does seem like his natural position in the lineup, for now anyway.

Koufax – I agree, Ethier keeps the name as long as he keeps delivering.

Dodger4life – The Ethieraholics are Ethieriffic!!!!

twinsfanforever – you are most welcome 🙂

What an interesting season! Just the other day we were questioning the make up of the bull pen. The relief pitchers have come around and now the focus is on the lack of hitting by several key players. I was pretty disappointed in Martin yesterday, but again, we can afford to be patient with the guy. He’s probably going to watch the all star this year, but he is still among the league’s best. He’ll come around. We need to support him, ’cause we’re going to need him before this through. And Pierre.
    *
I have not had a favorite since Dave Roberts and Shawn Green left, but all of those names are pretty cool.

  82. colliethec

Joe – in case your looking here for any ideas of the lineup…
    .

Call me crazy but I would do:
    .
    Ferk
    O-Dog
    Dre
    Blake
    Kemp
    Loney
    Martin
    Pitcher
    Pierre
    .
Not tonight because Dre doesn’t hit Hamels well.
    .
Unless I felt that doing something like that would give Dre some confidence that showed by me putting him there. If I was the Manager.
    .
I don’t get Kemp in the 8th spot.

I’m good Nelly. I hope all is well with you. I overslept, so no Pilates class & church.
    .
But we are taking the Mom’s to brunch and then work out, clean the casa, watch the games, and a late softball game. I’m actually happy we over slept!
    .
I hope you are well. Hello there to you 2 Tru!

  84. colliethec

NSB — Loney Bin’s is great.
    .
Nelly when it was suggested a name for the Loney fans I thought the 1st I thought was Loneytics and then as I read further down the thread, you had put it, so that would be my vote!! Good call!!!
    .
Sorry you got burned yesterday. I’m hoping to get a little sun today as it’s finally sunny and looks nice out there.

  85. colliethec

Okay so I’m talking solo now so that is my cue to hit the shower! Take care all and have a great Sunday!

  86. trublu4ever

Hi, Collie. I’m tired just hearing about your day! I’m lucky to get out of bed, have my coffee, shower and get dressed. By then, I figure, enough exercise for me! lol

  87. colliethec

Oh and I like The Mailman. Doesn’t the Postman always ring twice? Hopefully he can ring thrice today!

  88. nellyjune

Well, we didn’t get up for church either, and I am doing pretty good. Other than I am watching NASCAR and my driver (Denny Hamlin) has gone out of the race for the 2nd time, and the race just started 😦

Oh, well, I liked your lineup the day you posted it, and I still like it today.

  89. bluesplash09

Going to the game tonite and will prolly be my last one at Dodger Stadium this year (until October) as I am out here on leave and it’s back to new mexico tommorrow, taking 3 of 4 from them will be amazing, it’s been so awesome being there the past couple days winning in the fashion that we have, i’ll be in all u can eat right feild tonite, GO DODGERS!!

  90. nellyjune

Mechanical ……….his whole electrical system went out so no control panel, but they found out it was a fuel pump issue, sent him back out and it went out again. Now, he is in the garage 😦 He went from 7th to 13th in the point standings for the Chase. I just read an article because he was complaining about all of his bad luck, and his crew chief was saying if we were having bad luck, we wouldn’t be in the top 10 in the standings. Well, I am guessing this would be considered bad luck.

  91. shad80

The last time I check these stats we we’re around 3rd in ERA and now we’re #1. The Cards was #1 but the 5.67 this month dropped them to 4th. The Giants was #2 but has a 3.46 to dropped them to 3rd. Seattle has the best ERA this month at 1.37 and they’re leap frog over the Giants by .01 for 2nd places.

  92. bluecrewgirl

Hey everyone. It looks like a lot of us slept in today. I can’t remember the last time I slept as late as I did this morning. I couldn’t tell if you all had decided on a name for Broxton fans, but if not, I just wanted to throw The Brox Bombers into the mix. Gotta take a shower and get ready. Hope everyone has a great day.

  93. shad80

  94. shad80

I know this is like 15 hrs later but that would be simple Blake move to LF, Pierre move to CF, Martin goes to 3rd and Ausmus behind the plate.

  95. Dodger4life

I refuse to comment further on this situation until I hear from Manny, in the meantime…. I will give Manny my support, and remember that he is a part of this team, and is paying the price set by league rules. I wish Manny the best, I hope he has the same feeling for us the fans. What do I want to hear from Manny…….Something Positive….:-)

We are doing good. I got a little toasted yesterday watching highschool baseball, but other than that I am good. The boys won both of their games yesterday and went 3-1 for the two days. I am glad to hear you are doing well 🙂

  97. kpookiemon

I know I should be careful what I wish for…but where’s that phront-running phan been lately? I see his comments on the very weak Philly board…no wonder he comes in here. He slams LA fans, but those awesome World Champions get something like 5 to 15 comments per game. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…You know, phan, your comments against Bruntlett were very HATEFUL. It’s only a game, didn’t you know?

  98. enchantedbeaver

    Hey everybody!

Would’nt have worked spit – Blake was already used. He K’d for Troncoso in the ninth. Kemp’s K was in the 10th. Only position player they had left was Ausmus. Loretta was still on 3rd.

  99. nellyjune

Kahli – isn’t that the reason we get alot of people like phan though? (meaning people trying to push our buttons)…………..because we are more entertaining and we have fun regardless of the outcome of most games. Most blogs don’t run like this. It’s just comment and move on without any real conversations and debate between the bloggers themselves. You can’t instigate with somebody who isn’t there as in most other blogs.

  100. shad80

Look like the Cards pathetic 5.67 ERA this month is going to take a bit again and probably moved them down 2 to 3 more spot down. To think the Cards team ERA was way better than our and amazing the Cards are having problem with the Tracy Rockies lol.

  101. shad80

I thought Blake was at 3rd when Furcal took over SS and Loretta was out of the game but I guess not.

  102. shad80

LOL – sorry I jinxed the game folks.
I am just happy that despite feeling lousy all weekend, I was able to service my car’s cooling system and change the thermostat myself saving an $85 labor charge.
We may not have the Hollywood Squares to kick around anymore but there are plenty of other TV shows to mess with.
Here is a quote paraphrased from the Sopranos:
Joe Torre – “The Phillies are so far up my a** that I taste Brillcreem.”
