I love the 80s

It’s Fireworks Night at the Ravine and we’ve got an 80s theme so hopefully you’ll be here…rain seems to have gone away for the day, which is cool.

Thanks to some big Dodger fans over at the NBA, we got the chance to stop over at practice today for the Lakers and Magic and see how media operations run in the NBA. We’re all pulling for the Lake show, including Sasha Vuajcic, who is throwing out first pitch tonight. And of course, Kareem, who was wearing his Dodger hat at Staples today and is a big Dodger fan.

And while we’re on the subject of LA legends, Tommy has updated his blog so take a peek.

Here’s tonight’s lineup:

Pierre, LF

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Blake, 3B

Loney, 1B

Martin, C

Ethier, RF

Kemp, CF

Milton, P

Obviously Joe is ignoring our comments and suggestions about his lineup. I only hope that somebody gets hot and we break the offensive ineptitude.

  2. colliethec

Thanks for the update Josh! We all appreciate your efforts and all that you do to make this blog happen!
    .
Will Sash be moved back to the 3 point rubber?
    .
I think there is going to be some upset ITD folks tonight when they see the lineup.
    .
I’m not big on changing the lineup all the time, but I think there needs to be some changes when the wheels stop spinning the way they can.
    .
    Let’s beat them Phillies tonight!!
    .
    Go Blue!!!
    .
Bring the Ring to LA in 2009!!!!

Joe: They say we’re old and we can’t see
Anything good about walks or OBP.
Juan: Well I don’t care if all that’s true
‘Cause you got me, and baby I got you
    Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe

Joe: They say our love won’t win no games
But I don’t care if we go down in flames.
    Juan: I guess that’s so, I don’t care either
as long as I get to start instead of Ethier

    Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe

Juan: I got 8….point 8 mil, and I put you…. in my will.
Joe: And when I’m sad, you’re a clown
And if I get scared, you’re always around
Joe: So let them say your hat’s too big
‘Cause I don’t care, let them call me pig
Juan: Then put your little hand in mine
There ain’t no hill or mountain we can’t climb

    Juan: Babe
Both: I got you babe I got you babe

Juan: I got you to write my name
Joe: I got you to lead the game
Juan: I got you to pull up my socks
Joe: I got you to take me on walks

    Both: I got you babe

Can’t wait for the game and handing the Phillies a BIG LOSS!!!! LET’S GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!! MAKE THOSE BATS COME ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. trublu4ever

Bear ~ maybe if you type the line-up in capital letters, Joe can see them. If you go first, everyone will follow!

  6. lbirken@aol.com

Not usually one to comment much on lineups but is it my imagination or have Dodger bats cooled off when Joe started moving Blake further up and Kemp and Ethier down?

Collie, funny comment about Sasha. I was thinking something along those lines. I hope I get there in time tonight to see if someone has to toss him the ball first or if he tries to dribble the baseball and make a pull up pitch from the corner.

  7. spanner@aol.com

I think the lineup is ok… my only change would be to try Kemp #2 and move Furcal down to #8 until he starts to hit… maybe Kemp would cut down on his strikeouts in the 2 hole?

  8. shad80

We can only hope but Kemp need to bat 3rd with Hudson #2. Kemp is a better hitter in his career in the 3rd spots.

  9. oldbrooklynfan

    Hello Everybody at ITD
I hope Jamie Moyer, can’t find his left arm and has to pitch with his right. Just to give us a start anyway. (lol)
If not we’re going to have to find a way to get this offense going.
If would be good to get some help from the .239 hitting Furcal.
Maybe Jayson Werth can have a bad night for us.
    LET’S GO UNCLE MILTIE!!!!!!!

  11. oldbrooklynfan

I think to bat in the top 4 spots, you need at least 5 years experience according to Joe Torre (lol)

  12. messagebear@msn.com

That was a brilliant inning of offense. You can always blame Pierre, but Furcal is the worthless a**hole who can’t even hit the ball enough to get the runner to third. What a gd waste of another three year contract. This guy is so putrid, the best thing he could do is break his gd leg and at least be off the squad legitimately.

  13. nellyjune

Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!!! Nothing like getting on just in time to see JP get caught.

  14. messagebear@msn.com

At least you have to give credit to Milton for trying – good job. He may not have the best stuff, but the guy looks like he’s giving a 100% of whatever he has. I appreciate that.

  15. messagebear@msn.com

Well, at least Russ went to right on an outside pitch – I couldn’t believe it, but somebody must have been talking to him.

  16. koufax1963

    Hi ITD,

Go Dodgers! Be patient and wear Moyer out. The trouble is milton is up on the pitch count too. My thought on Raffy is that he is not adapting to batting number 2 in the line up.
    Go Dodgers!

  17. trublu4ever

Koufax ~ I think Castro will get a lot of playing time because Joe likes to rest Raffy and Hudson.

  18. trublu4ever

COME ON DODGER………..LET’S WAKE UP THE BATS!!! The Giants are beating the Marlins going to the bottom of the ninth!

  19. oldbrooklynfan

Moyer doesn’t look any different than Hamels, with that holding the ball in front of him while he’s reading the sign.

  20. vl4ecc

    Good evening all.
WTF is up with this scoring drought? Moyer’s a has been junk baller with an ERA over 6!
They should be lighting him up big time!!!

  21. vl4ecc

Patron sounds good, but I prefer Don Julio Anejo. Better after taste on my taste buds.
    .
    .
OK! This is not Milton’s night! With all the hits he’s given up, we’re lucky they haven’t scored more. I hope Joe’s got a short leash!

  22. colliethec

The good news… The Marlins loaded the bases with 2 outs down by 1 in the bottom of the 9th against the Giants closer.
    .
The bad news… He got the 3rd out on a grounder to short.

  23. colliethec

3 zip is bad but they should be able to put some up against Moyer.
    .
This is the way Milty is going to be this year. Some games good, some bad. Some innings good, some bad. He’s coming off surgery and that will take time for him.
    .
Tonight is the bad night. 61 pitches through 4 innings.

  24. koufax1963

vl4ecc: I would not refuse either tequila if offered! and the way this game is going “the quervo gold” will satisfy. Is Weaver warm?

  25. bluecrewgirl

Hey everyone. Guess he’s bored because there’s nothing much going on on the Phillie’s blog compared to ours.

  26. colliethec

They just seem like they are pressing in all the areas of the game. I get the feeling that once they break out of the funk and get a SP in a trade, they will be okay.

  27. vl4ecc

I hear you koufax! I’m drinking Amber Bock tonight. I forgot how good these taste!
My motto used to be; “I can resist ANYTHING but temptation.”
Now it’s “Age & Treachery will ALWAYS overcome youth & skill.”
Never mess with a grumpy old man.

  28. colliethec

Hey there NSB. Welcome to the fun!
    .
    By Milton. Thanks for trying!
    .
Let’s go Mota. We need some good work here!

  29. vl4ecc

Good defense is saving Milton’s hide tonight.
    .
    .
About time Joe brought the hook!
Oh no! PLEASE! Not Mota! We want to STOP the bleeding!

  30. Dodger4life

How are ya collie, and eveyone else, we need to slow Moyers rythym down….LETS GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. colliethec

vl4 — It worked… get some duct tape keep em crossed!
    .
D4 — Good point. You are correct. They need to step out a time or 2.
    .
They are just letting him get the ball and throw.

  32. northstateblues

Hey Dco, glad to be home for gametime tonight… or I will be once we start hanging some crooked numbers on that board.

Headed to Del Taco today, two other Dodger fans were in there as well, one with a Lakers hat too… and the food is like fast-food home cooking to this native of the Home Of Del Taco, though no Del Taco is as good as the 3 Barstow Del Tacos, especially portions-wise.

as I left, I told my girlfriend, “Great, now back to stupid NorCal.”

  33. colliethec

I really hope Torre shakes up this lineup soon.
    .
They are all out of wack. Ferk needs to be in his natural lead off position. Pierre has continued to do well but we don’t need 3 lead off hitters at the top. We need to move one of them to the 9th hole. It worked earlier…

  34. oldbrooklynfan

The good news is Moyer is throwing more pitches than Hamels did last night at this point.
    That could be our chance.

  35. dodgereric

Hitting is contagious. Unfortunately, so is NOT hitting.

All we need is someone to spark the offense. One spark.

  36. bluecrewgirl

I agree dcollins. Leading of is part of Raffy’s game and mentality and I think that’s part of the reason he’s out of rhythm.

  37. northstateblues

Hi BlueCrewGirl, things are going good here. Enjoying the night game at home, after listening to Vin Scully fighting 8 Ranchero and Mariachi bands for 45 minutes in the car while running errands. It was a valiant fight, but with the sun still up, Scully never had a chance.

  38. nellyjune

I keep getting kicked off my computer. I got the coolest gift from a former student today even. I got a huge mlb/Dodger care package. It had two Dodger photo albums, a Dodger plate, Dodger colored pencils, Dodger pens, Dodger peanuts (a bag of peanuts with our Dodgers Logo on the bag) Cracker Jacks, Red Vines, Sunflower Seeds, and, of course, Peanut M&Ms. The great thing about this student is that he is an A’s fan, his mom is a gnat fan, his dad is a Tiger fan (grew up in Michigan), and his grandma is a Dodger fan, but supports the A’s as well.

BTW collie – I saw your comment this mornings, and they were great. Every year I do a memory book for the class, which includes pictures of all the highlights/events of the year and with each picture, they need to write about what they remember about that highlight or event. Guess what the most talked about highlight was? Dodgereric’s visit to my classroom. They remember every single thing he and Chris did and said. It was the most filled up page. The #2 highlight was “MLB Opening Day 2009” and the third was our Beach Boys Musical, which is the most current thing we did.

  39. vl4ecc

Okay! All this finger & toe crossing must be working!
But I’m starting to cramp up! Last thing I need would be to be hit with arthritis, or carpel tunnel! LOL!

  40. bluecrewgirl

NS, I know what you mean. I have to deal with dueling stations on my way up to Apple Valley when I visit my family.

  41. northstateblues

Hey Tru, yeah, that might be the case. That shoulder’s like a ticking time bomb at this point. One go at a Gatorade cooler, and it might be 15 days on the DL.

When he’s on, though, he’s scary good.

  42. dodgereric

vl, you’re wasting your time crossing your fingers and toes. That’s just silly.

  43. colliethec

    Good job Mota!
    .
vl4 — Duct tpe really will help. It’ll just be a little tough to remove!
    .
Nelly — I’m not surprised. It’s neat that he had an impact on them.

  44. trublu4ever

NSBlues ~ he doesn’t get through enough innings. He seems to go five and thinks that’s my job for the day.

  45. trublu4ever

  46. vl4ecc

CRAP! At least the kid worked the count a bit before grounding into the DP.
Moyer is stepping in dung, and coming out smelling too good here.

  47. kpookiemon

Vinny’s most cutting remark…and man, does it ever nail it on the head: “Dodgers tiptoe through the inning.”

  48. trublu4ever

Since Messagebear isn’t here I’m going to say we need Manny back. He puts some pizazz into the lineup!

  49. kpookiemon

Memo to Dodger starters: “Giants starting pitchers have allowed three earned runs or less in 16 of the past 17 games…”

  50. colliethec

  51. bluecrewgirl

I was just talking to my dad on the phone and he’s a Red Sox fan. I was telling him about Penny and he’d be happy to be rid of him. He’s lucky to have the record he does, because he hasn’t really pitched that well for the Red Sox. My dad also commented that he can’t believe the Dodgers aren’t hitting Moyer tonight. They need to snap out of it.

  52. colliethec

3 great defensive plays tonight. We are showing some good glove work which is a start to turn the funk around.

  53. dodgereric

Getting shut out by Moyer HAS to mean there’s no way to go but up, right?

    Some 2009 Dodger splits:

    Furcal leading off .250
    Hitting 2nd .203

    Blake hitting 8th .317
hitting 4th .333 (only 5 games, but no HRs yet)

Kemp gets better the lower he hits:
    Batting 4th .158
    Batting 5th .267
    Batting 6th .286
    Batting 7th .328
    Batting 8th .455
    Batting 9th 1.000
OK, very few ABs in all but the 7 slot. But fun to look at.

  54. nellyjune

Hey bluecrewgirl!!!!! I will be much better tomorrow. Today was exhausting, with it being a rainy morning, and trying to move things out of my room into my new room, while things were being moved into my room. It was just chaos, but my students handled it very well. I

Alright Dodgers – great defense there!!!!

  55. dodgereric

That was as nice a version of God Bless America as I’ve heard in a while. Nothing fancy, very respectful.

  56. kpookiemon

eric, nice numbers but they’d mean nothing to Joe. He picks his batting order based on who’s been hot in a certain spot–and then moves him.

  57. colliethec

You gotta luv Vin. “Freedom isn’t free.”
    .
The 65th anniversary of D-Day. A sad day but the day that started the end of Hitler.
    .
Thanks to those that sacrificed their lives and bodies for me & my family. & those that were alive thanks for the sacrifices you made as well. The whole country worked together to a common good.

  59. bluecrewgirl

She was an American Idol contestant last season. She has a nice, down to earth kind of voice.

  60. colliethec

I’m not a big Idol guy, but I liked her when she was on it. She seemed like a real sweet girl. Wifey & I were pulling for her.
    .
    Interesting numbers Eric.

  61. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl ~ I forgot to finish my thought because I was so excited about our defense. ……………I felt really bad for them because it wasn’t the way they should have had to spend their last day in their classroom.

    Alright Raffy!!

  62. colliethec

Okay I’m not a ML player but that pitch was way outside and Blake pulled it to 3rd. I mean if the pitcher is throwing inside making you pull it to the front base that’s one thing… But why didn’t he just poke it to the right side?
    .
More nice D by the Phils. 2 balls they could of caught & didn’t!
    .
    Let’s keep plugging away.

  63. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, they should be extra ready for their vacations too. We just scored a lucky run there, but it’s still frustrating that they don’t have more runs. No way Moyer should be stifling them the way Hamels did last night.

  64. kpookiemon

Maybe a smile from the old Hollywood Squares will help:
    Q. When a couple have a baby, who is responsible for its sex?
    A. Charley Weaver: I’ll lend him the car, the rest is up to him.

  65. bluecrewgirl

46 years old and it’s not like he’s freaking Roger Clemens or Nolan Ryan for bloody sake. I know we’re in first and having a great year, but it’s still frustrating.

  66. colliethec

I had to say something D4. I’m sorry I was late. But I was on a date! Yes you can congratulate! It was Great! I had a wonderful dinner on my plate! & a sweet Wifey to make it complate!!

  67. kpookiemon

Speaking of Trocoso, this from CBS Sports.com power rankings:
“According to my calculations, the Dodgers’ magic number to clinch the NL West is 12. Yet even with a 37-game cushion, Joe Torre still won’t be able to resist the temptation to use Ramon Troncoso in five straight games this summer. Somebody oughta give the bullpen coach veto power over Torre’s late-game shenanigans.”

  68. dodgereric

I wonder if any team has EVER had splits like this. EVER.

2009 Dodgers – hitting by positions (combined) through 63 games
    Batting first – .305, 1 HR
    second – .298, 5 HRs
    third – .308, 6 HRs
    fourth – .263, 2 HRs
    fifth – .238, 0 HRs
    sixth – .307, 7 HRs
    seventh – .290, 6 HRs
    eighth – .320, 8 HRs
    ninth – .198, 2 HRs

    Anything jump out at you?

  69. trublu4ever

Kahli ~ Paul Lynde had some good lines too but, I’m drawing a blank right now! It’s an old age syndrome!

  70. nellyjune

Casey was batting 8th and had the most HRs there. Now Matt is batting there, and he hit his latest HR batting there, didn’t he?

  71. bluecrewgirl

I used to like the old Hollywood squares where they had certain regulars. Rose Marie from the Dick Van **** show was on there for years too.

  72. kpookiemon

Paul Lynde for sure…this’ll probably get me thrown off the blog, but if it made it through network television censors, why not here:
    Q. Paul, what is a good reason for pounding meat?
    A. Paul Lynde: Loneliness!

  73. nellyjune

I used to like “Hollywood Squares” as well. Paul Lynde was pretty good. Wasn’t Charro on the old ones quite a bit too?

  74. dodgereric

Peter Marshall: According to Ann Landers, is their anything wrong with getting into the habit of kissing a lot of people?
Charley Weaver: It got me out of the army!

  75. vl4ecc

I really want to see Stairs up against Brox again. Big John is alot more intimidating now than last year.

  76. kpookiemon

Untilthe Dodgers tie the game I’ll be relentless”
    Q. Charley, you’ve just decided to grow strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year?
    A. Charley Weaver: Of course not, I’m too busy growing strawberries.

  77. dodgereric

Peter Marshall: According to Tony Randall, “Every woman I’ve been intimate with in my life has been…” What?
    Paul Lynde: Bitterly disappointed.

  78. dodgereric

Peter Marshall: Diamonds should not be kept with your family jewels, why?
    Paul Lynde: They’re so cold!

  79. kpookiemon

    Q. You’ve been having trouble going to sleep.. Are you probably a man or a woman?
    A. Don Knotts: That’s what’s been keeping me awake.

  80. kpookiemon

    Q. According to Cosmopolitan, if you meet a stranger at a party and you think that he is attractive, is it okay to come out and ask him if he’s married?
    A. Rose Marie: No wait until morning.

  81. bluecrewgirl

Peter Marshall: According to “Cosmo,” if you meet a stranger at a party and you think he’s really attractive, is it okay to come out directly and ask him if he’s married?
Rose Marie: No, wait until morning.

  82. vl4ecc

I’m feeling the same! I don’t know if it’s part timers, or just plain old C.R.S.!
I do remember him singing; “Cheese binds mice” in the same tune as 3 blind mice, but everything else is just coming up blank…

  83. dodgereric

Doin’ it for good luck, tru!

Peter Marshall: When you pat a dog on its head he will usually wag his tail. What will a goose do?
    Paul Lynde: Make him bark.

  84. kpookiemon

    bluecrewgirl…that was psychic!
    Q. Back in the old days, when Great Grandpa put horseradish on his head, what was he trying to do?
    A. George Gobel: Get it in his mouth.

  85. dodgereric

Peter Marshall: Paul, Zsa Zsa Gabor says she never ever swims with her face in the water. Why?
Paul Lynde: It clogs the drain.

  86. kpookiemon

    Q. If you’re going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be?
    A. Charley Weaver: Three days of steady drinking should do it.

  87. bluecrewgirl

I have a feeling they’ll hit Blanton tomorrow. Nelly, Andre is .500 career against him 4-8 with a home run.

  88. bluecrewgirl

Yes, George was funny too, trublu. Wasn’t John Ritter on there quite a bit for a time or am I just imagining that?

  89. nellyjune

He seems to do well against former A’s pitchers. Dan Haren and Blanton are both former A’s pitchers. I liked Blanton when he pitched for the A’s. Now he is on that other team.

  90. dodgereric

Peter Marshall: What are “Do It”, “I Can Help” and “Can’t Get Enough”?
George Gobel: I don’t know but it’s coming from the next apartment.

  91. northstateblues

Thanks for all the Hollywood Squares. I only remember the days of Shadow Stevens and Jim J. Bullock in the 80’s.

  92. dodgereric

Peter Marshall: True or false…a pea can last as long as 5,000 years.
George Gobel: Boy it sure seems that way sometimes…

  93. bluecrewgirl

NS, you make me feel old, lol. Jim J. Bullock was great on the Ted Knight, Too Close for Comfort, that he was on. That was a good show.

  94. kpookiemon

One more for the upcoming 9th-inning rally:
    Q. Jackie Gleason recently revealed that he firmly believes in them and has actually seen them on at least two occasions. What are they?
    A. Charley Weaver: His feet.

  95. bluecrewgirl

Strangely, this game is not at all out of reach. I feel a 9th inning rally coming on too, Kahli.

  96. vl4ecc

Sure hope they can do it with a walk off here.
Big Bad John got the crowd fired up striking out the side. I sure hope the offense can feed off the energy, and deliver.
    We know drama!

  97. dodgereric

    I’m with ya, kahli!

Peter Marshall: What do you call a cow that won’t give milk?
    George Gobel: Hamburger.

  98. bluecrewgirl

He was a funny man, trublu. Now if only O-Dog can get on and Blake can go yard, we’ll be good to go.

  99. dodgereric

    2 out rally!

Peter Marshall: You have some lipstick on your collar. Will treating it with petroleum jelly help?
George Gobel: I’m gonna have a hard enough time explaining the lipstick!

  100. 32and53fan

Peter Marshall: Burt Reynolds is quoted as saying, “Dinah (Shore)’s in top form. I’ve never known anyone to be so completely able to throw herself into a…” A what?
    Paul Lynde: A headboard.

  101. dodgereric

    NEVER SAY DIE!

Peter Marshall: Years ago, American Indians tied small pine trees to their feet, and thereby invented what?
    George Gobel: Shoe trees.

  102. dodgereric

Wouldn’t this be a great spot for Russ’ first HR?

Peter Marshall: What is the definition of the word “Gobbledygook?”
George Gobel: That’s the stuff that crusts over in turkeys’ eyes when they’re asleep.

  103. 32and53fan

Peter Marshall: What do you call a man who gives you diamonds and pearls?
Paul Lynde: I’d call him “darling”!

  104. dodgereric

    BABY!!!!!!

Peter Marshall: True or false, George…experts say there are only seven or eight things in the world dumber than an ant.
George Gobel: Yes, and I think I voted for six of ’em.

  105. northstateblues

HEAR THAT? IT’S DON’T ____ WIT DRE DAY!!!!!!!

    WAY TO GO ‘DRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  106. kpookiemon

ETHIERHOLICS CELEBRATE!!!!!! HOLLYWOOD SQUARES MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOORAY FOR MY SON WANDERING IN!!!!!!!

  107. 32and53fan

Talking about Jackie Gleason….. “How sweeeeeeeet it isss!
Gotta love those come from behind wins.

  108. dodgereric

We will never have a lead that is safe, but WE WILL ALMOST NEVER BE OUT OF A GAME ETHIER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  109. bluecrewgirl

My neighbors must think I’m crazy. I screamed when Andre got his hit. Matt just came out and put a towel with shaving cream in his face. They had to end the interview because I guess it really burns bad when it gets in your eyes.

  110. 32and53fan

Peter Marshall: We’ve all heard the old phrase “A pig in a poke.” What is a poke?
Paul Lynde: It’s when you’re not really in love.
    No pokes tonight…just clutch hits.
    I LOVE this team!

  111. jhallwally

Hi’Ya Nelly!!! Wonder why we haven’t heard from our decerebrate Phillie masturbater’!!!! LOL!!!!

  112. vl4ecc

You gotta love it! Lidge has gone from the penthouse last year, to the outhouse this year. I knew last year was a fluke. Now I see why the Stro’s kicked him to the curb

  113. 32and53fan

Peter Marshall: Why is the Phillies Phan such a good fisherman?
Paul Lynde: Because he’s a master baiter.

  114. nellyjune

I was actually afraid to watch to I switched to radio, and then had to go back and find the highlight so I can actually see it.

  115. jhallwally

Just got in for the last inning and a half!!! Glad I missed the first part of this one. Must have been kind of bleak!!! LMAO with the old Hollywood Squares stuff. Nice touch gang!!!!!

  116. phan52

LOL!! Glad to see I’m still under your collective skin, even when you get lucky that the best fielding third baseman in the league makes an error. Blind squirrels do find nuts, you know.
It’s June and your visitors clubhouse still has the faint odor of stale champagne. Deal.

  117. koufax1963

Wow does the feiliz error loom big in that one. Lead the way Dre! Kuroda tomorrow. I hope he is on the money for National TV. Sleep with smiles tonight

  118. vl4ecc

No need to go on the silly philly blog, and raise up some hate & discontent like phan52 does here.
He’s probably stuffing as much cheesesteak in his pie hole as possible.

  119. dodgereric

They’re interviewing Torre and one of the graphics says it’s our 15th comeback win of the year and our 11th win in our last at-bat.

Stuff like that is what can get you all the way through the Series.

  120. jhallwally

LOL VL4!!! I’m sure the Jergens lotion is flying all over the Playboy magazines in Phan’s house right now!!!! Simple a** probably can’t even get that right!!!!

  121. bluecrewgirl

Where is seesky? We need him to pass the flask. I bet the sweetness of this victory will calm the sting in Andre’s eyes. They really should switch to Cool Whip.

  122. dodgereric

No worries about that, vl! We’ve got better things to do! That idiot thinks he’s under our skin when all we’re doing is laughing at his pathetic ***!

  123. phan52

You don’t have to go anywhere; you have enough hate and discontent for the entire blogosphere right here. Poor winner, indeed…

And cheesesteaks? yummmm…extra onions….Had one on the night of October 15, 2008 if I recall….

  124. dodgereric

Hey bluecrew, someone should lay in a supply of whipped cream for these occasions. It doesn’t sting!

  125. jhallwally

So true Dad/Eric!!!! Unfortunate, but it is fun to laugh at dimwits!!!! Their so freaking stupid that they don’t even realize what a joke they are!!!! Bless his empty little head!!!!

  126. dodgereric

Looks like Mota is the new miracle in the bully. Nine scoreless innings in his last 7 appearances! Man, I would have lost a lot of money betting against that stat! LOL!!

  127. dodgereric

You watch, Junie! Lotsa runs tomorrow, this slump is OVER! You think the team is happy that Andre got the walkoff? You bet they are.

  128. 32and53fan

When all of us were ragging on Mota a couple of weeks ago, Joe Torre was saying he liked what he was seeing, despite a poor outcome. Maybe we should not second guess Joe’s every move. He knows that there are reasons, that are not known to us, for making certain decisions. But then that would spoil our fun of micro-managing from afar.

  129. bluecrewgirl

I was thinking the same thing when the all fell on top of him, Nelly! I know it’s all in fun, but they should really stop using the shaving cream. That stuff is noxious smelling and full of chemicals. it could really cause someone’s eyes to swell up if enough got in there and potentially cause them to miss some games. Cool Whip or as dodgereric suggested, real whip cream, would be better choices.

  130. dodgereric

I’d hate to admit that 32, but if bear can be nice and enchanted can have Juanpy’s baby, I guess I can not second-guess Torre’s EVERY move.

Wow, that was really healing – in a wretching kind of way.

  131. jhallwally

Interesting that Phan commented on our defensive lapse and the Phillie defense came back and bit him in his a**!!! Or head, as that is where it obviously resides!!!

  132. nellyjune

Speaking of nice……………..where is Messagebear? Maybe he and enchanted are together perhaps – LOL!!!!

  133. colliethec

    Woo Hoo!
    .
Good news… the Dodger win in a walk off hit by Dre!
    .
The bad news… I’m at the emergency room again as Wifey jumped up and split her head on the dang chandelier again. :(… I’ve got to raise that thing!

  134. dodgereric

LMTO, jhall! That’s the problem when all you do is talk crap. You end up looking like the loser you really are. Unfortunately, that’s what so many people do these days. I hear it at my son’s hockey games, I heard it at work from Angel fans the first day back after they took 2 of 3 from us. It didn’t matter one bit that our record was and is light years better than theirs.

I think it was north who said that they must be deficient in some important part of their character.

  135. nellyjune

Are you serious?!? Oh Collie……………not again!!! I am sooooo sorry. However, Andre does have that affect on people.

  136. kpookiemon

Broxton and Billingsley are almost shoo-ins to make the All-Star team. Who the heck else is there to represent the best team in baseball? Manuel will select both those guys plus Hudson. A reach might be Kemp, as many hits as Pujols and a gold-glove-type outfielder.

  137. colliethec

Wally — Great to see you!
    .
Great point about the dephense. I was thinking the same thing. On the double by Ferk, the single by Loney and then the ball by Martin.
    .
Did we get lucky? or did our team make the plays (O-Dog had a couple as did Kemp & Brox struck out the side compared to, well, you know… ) to win & their players didn’t. I would say that would make us the better team.
    .
Gosh it must really stink to loose a game in that phashion.

  138. jhallwally

Yep Dad, obviously some much deeper emotional/performance issues with those people. It’s too bad that they are so impaired that they don’t even realize it. I hope Phan gets counseling!!!!

  139. colliethec

Just kidding guys. She’s all good.
    .
I always remind her to watch out when it get’s to those points in the game. It’s almost like when base coaching I always remind my teammates if there are less then 2 outs to make sure the ball is through on a line drive so they don’t get doubled up.

  140. jhallwally

Great to see you too Colly, as always. I’m with you, we made the plays and they didn’t when it counted. Tonight we were the better team. The team showed alot of heart and guts tonight!!

  141. jhallwally

Phillies are a darn good team. It will always be a battle against a real good team. This could very well be a preview of the post season again. Two really good teams squaring off. Makes for exciting baseball.

  142. colliethec

It’s the same way up here Eric with the Giants fans so I’m a little used to it.
    .
They pop off even when they loose as long as the Dodgers loose.
    .
The day Manny was suspended they were all over me. I never pop off to them even when we swept them in LA at the start of the season and all season long. They just know I’m a fan of the Dodgers through conversation. Then they pop off.
    .
The other day I asked a couple of the guys how it felt to be 9 games out but in 2nd place. Was it better than 4th last year?
    .
Rarely do I shoot back but sometimes it is necessary.

  143. nellyjune

………….or instead of talking current records, they bring up the one game back in May/April that they beat us. That is just hilarious.

  144. colliethec

    Great idea Eric.
    .
When we 1st were married while in bed, she headbutted me like 4-5 times the 1st year. I kept joking that I was going to wear my bicycle helmet to bed.
    .
& before you all get going, no it wasn’t in that way!!! Just adjusting covers and pillows…

  145. dodgereric

It’s common for Giant and Angel and Padre fans to pull out that tired old “I don’t care what we do, as long as we beat LA” tripe. I’ve found that saying this usually ends the conversation: “That’s the biggest difference between you and me. You’re happy if you beat us. All we care about is winning the World Series. You’re insignificant.”

  146. colliethec

Yup Nelly… I know you live it daily as well. The Dodgers organization should give us pins of accommodation for living where we live!

  147. dodgereric

    Sure collie, sure…….. LOL!!!

I also like this old joke:

This Giant fan went over to his pal’s house. He was a Dodger fan and a LA-SF game was well under way on the tube. The Giants scored a late run to go ahead and the Dodger fan’s pet turtle, who was watching the game, started rocking back and forth.

The Giant fan said, “What’s he doing?”
The Dodger fan said, “Unfortunately, he’s a Giant fan. He gets excited when they score.”

Later, the worst happened. The Giants won the game. The turtle rocked back and forth even faster and his tongue started flicking in and out of his mouth.

The Giant fan said, “WOW! He really IS a Giant fan! What does he do when the Giants win the World Series?”

The Dodger fan says, “I dunno. He’s only 55 years old.”

  148. colliethec

Jonas Bros just did the Top Plays on Sportscenter.
    .
They had an extra play because it had just happened.
    .
Anyone want to guess what it was? It had Brad Lidge in it.

  149. bluecrewgirl

It made me feel good to read this article where Torre says they need Andre:

And the Dodgers hope that right fielder Andre Ethier — who hit well behind Ramirez but cooled considerably when the suspension began — is getting his stroke back.

Ethier came into Friday’s game having hit safely in eight consecutive games and batting .333 over that stretch, lifting his overall average to .263 from .250.

“I hope he is” breaking out of his slump, Torre said before Ethier’s game-winning hit against Brad Lidge. “It’s easier on his helmets, it’s easier on everything. He just looks more comfortable right now. And we need him.”

  150. colliethec

BCG — Thanks for the concern. I was just kidding this time. Sorry if you missed that.
    .
It goes back to last year when Dre hit a walk off homer & she actually did that. She had never had any injury in her life and it was really scary for me as she was really bleeding… a lot! I just like getting Nelly. I’m thinking I got her. But now she is getting to know me so she probably was not 100% believing me!
    .
Eric — Yes he was! He hit the ball to the fence and the Dodgers WON!!!
    .
It was funny as the Jonas Bros were saying Dre was “their boy”. The ESPN anchor said they were aloud to add it as they did the editing (Supposedly) of the plays, and while in the editing room he said they were screaming and yelling.
    .
So BCG, The Brothers Jonas, many other Dodger fans & I all upset our neighbors.

  151. colliethec

See Ethieraholics. Patience. Torre knows what he’s doing for the most part.
    .
Also there was an article the other day where Mattingly was working with Dre to start to pull the ball a little more. After he had the hit he came around the bases and it looked as if he was pointing at Mattingly as he was coming out of the dugout. Then as they were walking off it looked as if Mattingly was saying see… and Dre was agreeing with him. I don’t know if anyone noticed that.
    .
The other fun thing I saw was when they were piling on Dre he had the biggest smile on his face and was really laughing. Wifey & I thought he looked like a little kid on Christmas morning with the best gift he could of gotten.

  152. bluecrewgirl

Dcollins, very glad you were just kidding and the wife is ok. I read that article too, and Andre has been hitting for a lot more power since he’s been coming out of it and most of his hits have come by pulling the ball to right field. Not, that he wants to hit everything there, you need to hit to all parts of the field to keep the pitchers guessing, but it seems he does hit for more power pulling the ball.

  153. colliethec

Great win tonight. Hopefully that is the “spark” as Eric mentioned, they need to get going!
    .
    Good night all! Take care…

  154. bluesplash09

So the past 2 days have been the first games i’ve gone too all year seeing as how i’m stationed in new mexico, i’m out here on leave with a friend (phillies fan) so we could catch the whole series, last night I wanted to cry, 1st time all year being shutout at home. And tonite wasnt looking any better until we got 2 outs in the 9th inning, the look on his face as lidge unravelled was priceless, I’ll be at the next 2 games and hopefully we have begun a win streak, GO DODGERS!!

  155. dodgereric

Four things before I go as well:

    1) Torre is 6 wins from passing Sparky Anderson for 5th place all-time in manager victories

    2) The Dodgers are 2 wins from becoming the third MLB team in history with 10,000 wins

    3) The Phillies are still the only team with 10,000 losses

    And, most importantly…..

    4) Tomorrow is the 65th anniversary of D-Day. This interview is long at 17 minutes. Every American needs to listen to it.
    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,525263,00.html
Everyone needs to fly their flag today. Mine flies 365.

God Bless you, collie. And BluecrewGIRL. And anyone else out there.

God Bless and thank you, members of the Greatest Generation!

    And may God Bless America!

  156. shad80

Sorry I missed the game but I see Ethier came through big time. WTG everyday Dre keep it up. What the heck gotten into Mota lately? Another 1 2/3 innings of no runs and even better a prefect day without given up a hit. Wow Mota keep it up bud and in his last 9 innings that he pitch he’s given up 5 hits and no runs amazing.

  157. shad80

To bad he had 3 bad games last month or else his ERA could’ve been under 4. That’s great news Eric hope we can take the next 2 games and get that 10,000 wins at home.

  158. shad80

I was just checking out Pierre numbers that Eric posted the link to and click minor league and it has Pierre having 13 assists so are you kidding me? I’m surprise he does have that many assists I was hoping at least 1 or 2 if he’s lucky but not 13 but most of them came from LF so I guess this wasn’t a new position for Pierre to learn. I assume most of them were in LF.

  159. Dodger4life

    Good Morning ITD, Dodger Faithful
    .
Outstanding finish for our Boy’s last night. Milton managed to keep us in there, Mota, Leach, and Troncoso kept the game intact. We then proceeded to turn the table, and got to Lidge, with help from an error to Feliz. We did what we needed to do to get to that point and we did what it took to end the game on a high note. And what a high note it was, Andre being mobbed by his teammates. Man that was some celebration. Way to go Dodgers!!!!
    .
In remembrance of D-Day and all the brave men who stormed the shores of Normandy, I salute you. May we always remember the one’s who came before us and always cherish the one’s who will come after.
    .
We got some Mojo back, Lets keep on keep’n on Boy’s!!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!
    .
Enjoy the game and your Saturday everyone……:-)

  160. lbirken@aol.com

Good morning. Got home late last night from the game, another example of why fans should not leave early! The Dodgers were fortunate to even be in the game by the ninth inning and the Phillies have to be kicking themselves for letting that one get away. How would you like to be a Phillie fan who could not stay up late last night who finds out this morning not only did his team lose but how it happened? The good luck charm for the Dodgers is when Broxton comes into a game with the score tied or behind by a run. He is 6-0 and two of those wins resulted from his two blown saves. By the way, I sat in front of a Phillie fan all decked out in his gear. He was great the whole game, cheering on his team the way a good fan does but not trying to talk any smack. In fact, we really did not talk to him until after the game. He gave me a high five and congrats while reminding me who won the World Series last year. I told him that was great, his team deserved it but this was a new season and both teams look good this season.

I don’t normally sit on the field level but my wife bought seats from someone on Craig’s List so we could attend this particular game. The seats were on the field level slightly down the right field line but with a good view of first base. One thing I did notice was that Matt Kemp and the big bruiser Howard are not that much different in size. It sure does not look that way on TV but it does in person. Aother thing I noticed was that the field of view from the lodge level is better but still it is a treat to be so close to the field once in a while.

  161. bluesplash09

I’m still buzzin from last nights game, I went absolutely crazy when Dre got that hit. I’m about to head out now to go watch us win again, I was tellin my phillie friend thats out here with me that lidge would blow it and sure enough….GO DODGERS!!

  162. shad80

Wohoooooooooooooooooo LA Sparks are playing on TV and I hope they don’t mess up the Staples Center for the tomorrow for the Lakers to play.

  163. bluecrewgirl

Interesting lineup changes today. I figured Blake would be sitting hitting 1-21 lifetime against Blanton:

    Juan Pierre, LF
    Orlando Hudson, 2B
    Andre Ethier, RF
    Russell Martin, C
    James Loney, 1B
    Matt Kemp, CF
    Mark Loretta, 3B
    Juan Castro, SS
    Hiroki Kuroda, P

  164. shad80

It’s funny how a junk ball pitcher like Blanton could owned Blake. Damn I want Kemp and Martin to switch spot.

  165. shad80

lol at the Philly top 3 all was part of the Dodgers organization but 2 were already drafted by us but one when to college. Nice 1 2 3 innings Kuroda. This is like the 2nd weeks in a rows the Dodgers game on Fox.

  166. northstateblues

Way to go DRE!!! Keep their heads ringin’!!!

And LONEY with a base hit! Ring Ding Dong….

Too bad I’ll probably miss the rest of the game running errands, but I’m glad I saw this… have a good day ITD!

  167. Dodger4life

    Good afternoon everyone
    .
Way to Andre!!!! Nice catch and play from Loney as well, and he’s in scoring position now 🙂

  168. shad80

sob wtf they showing Stairs homerun and he should’ve been k’s by Broxton and well there goes the no hitter.

  169. bluecrewgirl

Andre is definitely coming out of it and it seems that Mattingly’s advice is paying off, so that’s good to see.

  170. oldbrooklynfan

It good to put a zero up there on the scoreboard the inning after we score, nice going KURODA.

  171. oldbrooklynfan

Now that was a BIG 0 on the scoreboard.
And KURODA is showing some fatigue, it should be all for him.
    Great clutch pitching.

  172. oldbrooklynfan

KEMP was not up there to walk, he had to take a swing, we need runs. He hit it good, just short of the wall.

  173. colliethec

    Good afternoon ITD’ers.
    .
Just in from a morning shift to watch the rest of the game.
    .
This is where we need a K Belly.

  174. colliethec

Let’s respond & get those back.
    .
Bottom of the order coming up. Remember we are never out of it!
    .
    Go Blue!!
    .
Bring the Ring to LA in 2009!!!

  175. oldbrooklynfan

Tough on Belisario who’s been great, But MATT STAIRS again.

Got to get some runs on the board, NOW.

  176. colliethec

Without that gaff on the bases we’d be up by 1.
    .
Oh well. Let’s shut them down this inning and then get some more!

  177. oldbrooklynfan

I was looking for surprises in this game and we’re sure getting them, –but the wrong kind.

  178. shad80

Damn Loretta I hate long throw especially when you just need to tag the base to get the last out.

  179. Dodger4life

How are ya collie, I’ve been here a while I keep falling asleep for real short periods today. LOL!!!

  180. colliethec

BCG – I agree about Martin, but I’m thinking at this point anytime would be a good time for Martin’s first HR.

  181. colliethec

LOL D4! I hear ya. I didn’t get to bed until late as I was jazzed about the W. Then I had to be at work early today. I have to go back tonight to do some training with my crew. So long lunch to watch the last 3 innings of the game. Woo Hoo!!

  182. bluecrewgirl

I was really hoping Matt could drive one. Oh well, time for some more bottom of the 9th heroics. I really like Martin and am sure he’ll come around, but I would not have batted him clean up today. I think it just made him press more than he is. I think it relaxed Andre to be out of that spot for a bit.

  185. bluecrewgirl

Wow, I was questioning batting Raffy for Castro since Castro’s been hitting better lately, but shows you what I know, lol!! C’mon Beard, go yard!

  186. thinkingblue

Hello All….OMG I cannot believe that RAFFY hit a homerun….GOOOOO DODGERS!. I am sooooo happy that ANDRE is back!
And tomorrow I’ll be at the game with my kids. Kids are in Little League and they will have the Little League parade right before the game at Dodgers Stadium! We are so excited and we hope that they get to meet some of the players.
    GOOOOOO DODGERS!

  187. colliethec

Hello there NSB. I’m with you but I’m going in at 6:00. I was going to hit the gym before that but oh well. Another day of being heavier than Wifey would probably like!

  188. kpookiemon

Hey, it worked last night!! Winning time!
    Q. In Hawaiian, does it take more than three words to say ‘I Love You’?
    A. Vincent Price: No, you can say it with a pineapple and a twenty.

  189. northstateblues

Well, with that pitching change, I’ll have to call it a day. Hope there’s good news by the time I get to work.

  190. colliethec

Easier said then done but he has to be protecting the plate there. He kept looking for an inside pitch to pull. The outside of the plate has a strike zone as well. Just poke it to the right Russ!!!!

  191. kpookiemon

    OK, collie, one more.
    Q. According to Ann Landers, what are two things you should never do in bed?
    A. Paul Lynde: Point and laugh.
Everyone send Kemp your psychic energy.

  192. bluecrewgirl

Still don’t understand why they didn’t have Martin bunt. Loney’s fly would have scored the winning run if he had moved the runners over.

  193. kpookiemon

Guess psychic energy isn’t nearly so powerful as Russell Martin maybe having a clue. Tell me again why Joe batted him in the middle of the order?!??!?!?!

  194. colliethec

BCG — They would of then walked Loney.
    .
They were talking about it and said he has only had 1 sacrifice in his career. He squared on the 1st pitch but didn’t look very good on the attempt, so I think it was taken off.

  195. enchantedbeaver

To coin an old saying from my dad, Martin isn’t worth the powder to blow him to hell. Can’t bunt, can’t hit, can’t even take the bat off his shoulder.

At least we’ll get Ausmus tomorrow.

    .
I know he will rise… eventually.

  198. enchantedbeaver

    Thanks Collie!

    Snoozin’ Kahli!!!

I also believe the offense started going in the tank when Pierre went back to slappy mode in the leadoff position. No excuses for the rest of them, but when your leadoff guy is hitting about .200 for a week, and your 4-5 guy is worthless, you don’t tend to generate a lot of offense.

I agree E. I really think he needs to go to the 9 spot and put Ferk in leadoff. That might solve 2 slumps in one move. Then O-Dog & Dre. Martin down to 7th.
    .
Torre needs to shake something up. 2 runs both on solo shots through 11 innings needs to change. This isn’t a 1 or 2 game issue. Not panic time but time to change some things up IMO.
    .
    Let’s go O-Dog!

So much for little ball…3 solo shots! Not the best recipe for success, but good enough for this lazy Saturday afternoon!!!!!!

Better hope Wolf pitches deep tomorrow – bully’s taxed. All we got is Weaver and the kid Schlichting.

So glad he’s come around before Manny comes back so no one will say it’s because of Manny. Don’t get me wrong, I know Manny makes everyone around him better, but Andre was a quallity hitter before Manny came as Karros also pointed out today, so it’s great to see him fight his way out of it on his own.

    Gotta run…..Have a great evening everyone 🙂

    WAY TO GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BRING THE RING TO L.A. IN 2009!!!!!!!!
    .
Good game all around, Kuroda to Wade…RAFFY 🙂 ANDRE:))

What’s impressive is that they’re not playing good ball right now and they’re still winning.

I was going to say something nasty after Martin’s last at bat, but I see that enchanted already did earlier on. Besides, I can see from Martin’s face that he’s as hard on himself as anybody could be. So, what’s the point. It’s great that we won, and I love how we won it, and I’m glad who won it for us. The whole team really fought this one. I would only plead that Joe not put Martin in a critical position in the lineup until he’s had a chance to recover at least some of his old form. I’ve said that he looks burned out, but come on, Russ, get back up and fight.

Take care all. I’m out to. Gotta get going to work!

    Go Blue!
    .
Way to show some muscle and great pitching/D on national TV.

  208. bluecrewgirl

I’m really happy Wade got the victory too. He looked like his old self from last season today. Great to see.

I had a birthday party for my grandson here today but I did have get to watch the game and once again, THANK-YOU ANDRE FOR PROVING THAT WE ETHIERAHOLICS WERE RIGHT ABOUT YOU ALL ALONG!!! EVERYDAY DRE IS BACK IN A BIG WAY!!!!!!

it’s so impossible to dislike this scrappy little team.. they are so entertaining and so amazing.. andre is just incredible.. two walkoffs in two days.. the pitching today was amazing.. lidge blew two saves in two days.. all this will boost our confidence even more.. go blue!!

  211. saralovesrussell@losangeles-dodgers.net

this game really had it all.. great pitching.. some really incredible defensive plays.. a pinch hit game tying bomb in the 9th.. and a walk off bomb in extras.. WOW

  212. knouffbrock@frontiernet.net

    Another great team win.

I can’t help but wonder what’s up with Martin. His defense is good, but has lapses, and fails to get the job done with some key at bats. Does not seem to be quite the same guy. Joe, and we, can afford to be patient. What’s the alternative? I think he’ll get it cranked up and rolling again.

  213. jhallwally

I hope to god that they at least learned one thing from this game. Don’t pitch to Stairs dammit’!!!! That son of a gun has our number.

  214. jhallwally

If we face these guys again in October and they pitch to Stairs, I will be peeved, to say the least.
