Why does Matt Kemp continue to bat 8th while James Loney bats 4th? I don’t think Joe likes Matty that much. Kemp has trouble with curveballs so batting him 8th makes no sense. With a pitcher behind him he wont see anything to hit…he should be batting 3rd. Imagine what he’d do with those fastballs.
Plus Loney is slow and grounds into too many double plays to bat clean up. Thats a good way to kill rallys.
I really have no problem with Loney batting 4th but Kemp batting 8th is just plain dumb. How about dropping Furcal down to #8 and put Hudson back to his normal spot at #2 and put Kemp to #3. Kemp is like Crawford but with a better arm and power and should be batting 3rd.
That’s should avoid the dp with Kemp batting 3rd not like Furcal is running these days and Hudson too.

Joe Torre has wasted Matt Kemp this year…outside of Manny he’s our best power threat. He leads the team in stolen bases as well. A Complete waste of who I think is our best player.
Matt Kemp wouldn’t bat 8th for any other team in baseball. Probably not even the Yankees or Red Sox.

I don’t think any manager will admit to “thowing in the towel” but to be realistic, why chew up the bullpen in a game that certainly is headed in the wrong direction.

Not much to laugh about in today’s game, especially with it being on national TV. Has to be disappointing to out of town Dodger fans who normally do not get to see too many Dodger games on live TV.

Two good outing by Cubs starting pitching, Lilly and Dempster proved a little to much for our guys.

Just got back from Grand Junction and it looks as though Stults with his sore thumb and my boy Weaver did not get it done. At least a lot of runs were not wasted on today’s effort,
and a win tomorrow will send us home with a successful road trip.
I sure wish the D’s could have made a better accounting of themselves on national TV.My computer is away from the TV so I didn’t post during the game.The Cubs just plain beat us today. Doesn’t look like Stults is yet fully recovered from his thumb injury. I did, however, like Kemp’s upending of Blanco as the lead runner on the DP in the 8th.It’s a pretty bad game if that’s one of the highlights. However, tomorrow’s another day and another chance to start a winning streak and attain a successful road trip.

I was impressed by Kemp’s effort, with the D’s down 7-0,as the middle man on that DP. Nobody would have blamed him if he’d just slid in but he tried to break it up, just as he should’ve. It showed me that he knows how the game is played and how much he loves to play it. A tip of the flask and the cap to you, Matt.
It was one of the few good moments in the game today 🙂

Three runs in three days, each day one less than the day before. MartinLoneyKempEthier have played very average baseball of late. ZZZZZZZZZ. These guys have always been the future….but it’s time now. STEP UP!!!…or get out of the way.
kahli-who would you replace them with? I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, just want to know what you would do. In the end, I think everybody on here wants the same thing.
I’d like to point out, though, we have a big lead and every team is going to flatten out at some point in the season. In some ways, we’ve had it too easy lately.
The above four, as you mention, have indeed played very average baseball – in some cases well below their personal averages. I think that much of our surge came because of the performance at the top of the lineup. If Pierre will settle back down to a normal Juan for four and Hudson cool off to a more normal .300, we will probably get back closer to a .500 pace. I’m concerned with Furcal and the lack of any power in his bat. Same lack of power with Martin, although he’s playing a great defensive role with his throws to the bases. It’ll all come down to the pitching, as always. Kuroda could add a great deal of stability to Billz and Wolf at the top of the lineup, if he’s ready to get back to his norm. I don’t see Kershaw breaking out beyond possibly 10 wins, and No. 5 won’t produce much whether it stays Stults or Milton. Don’t have much confidence in the bullpen outside of Tronco, Belisario (at least at present) and Brox.
Anything over 92 wins should easily give us the division anyway, but I don’t see us keeping up the record-setting pace of the past couple of weeks in any case. But it is fun when you’re rolling – so, please, Dodgers, ROLL A LITTLE LONGER!

Flattened out just a bit, good description, Knoff. The Boy’s have been playing with such intensity these days this was inevitable at some point. NL West Champoins, not yet, we are on our way though. We cant all flatten out at the same time, we need some excitement back on our side of the field. Pick up your teammate’s when you can, make some noise and keep your eye on the prize.

messagebear – How dare McCourt speak on behalf of the fans like that!! We do not all feel like he deserves to come back like nothing ever happened, and take his spot in left field like it’s no big deal. Also, as much as I would love for McCourt or Selig to take Manny off the All-Star ballot, I think Manny should do it himself. I would love for him to show some remorse for what he has done to this team, and it’s fans, and this just might be a first step in showing the fans he might be sorry for what he did. I am glad we are winning without him. It kind of proves we should have been going after pitching all along and not wasting our time with his contract. I am not saying Manny hasn’t been a valuable piece, but this last month of games have proven we can do it without him too. The Dodgers have another month to do what they can do without him, and I just hope Manny does what is right because there are many fans who deserve to be treated like this issue does matter. I personally think the fans that are wearing the “Free Manny” shirts are not representing how most of us feel, but that’s what Frank sees and just assumes it’s true for all of us, and that is just wrong ~ IMHO of course 🙂

Thank you messagebear! I just don’t think it’s going to be the same when he gets back. Whether they will admit it or not, you would have to figure some of the players will have different opinions of him when he returns, and there will be an adjustment period once again, which may or may not affect the team’s chemistry or on field performance. Only time well tell, and until then, we have a month of games in June to play, and who knows what that will bring us…….hopefully a bigger lead in our division, with everybody staying healthy.

Tough game the last couple of games. But we all knew that the Dodgers couldn’t and wouldn’t keep up the 30+ runs in a series was going to last forever. I’m just glad that they have a good enough cushion to weather the lean games. Going into this series, I thought (naively, I know) that we could sweep, or at worst, win 3 of 4. Both Ted Lilly and Ryan Dempster pitched extremely well.
As for Manny, I didn’t think that Selig would take Manny’s name off the ballot. I know that the individual teams tells MLB to put whatever names on the ballot, but I’m not entirely sure if once a name goes on, if it can be taken off. I don’t know; maybe they can, maybe they can’t. All I know is my feelings on the matter. Manny should NOT be allowed to participate on the ASG. As bad a message PEDs and steroids gives to our kids, if MLB allows Manny to participate would be an even bigger travesty. All I can hope for is that the fans DON’T vote Manny into the ASG. I know that Charlie Manual is way too smart to “appoint” a spot for Manny, and I don’t believe that Charlie would do that anyways.
My understanding on this All-Star game issue is that like much everything else it is controlled by the existing labor agreement. There is a clause that specifies that anybody selected by the fans’ ballot cannot be excluded because of suspensions, so MLB will naturally point to that. If Manny had any shame or regret, he would of course ask to be voluntarily excluded, much as Torre would expect. If Manny decided to participate in the game after all, I would hope that Charlie Manuel would single-handedly show the guts and simply not use him.
I think it was too late to take Manny off the ballot but, I’ll bet you next year there will be a new clause that will eliminate a person who has been suspended for a banned substance. I don’t think Manny even played in AS games when he was with Boston, simply because he didn’t want to. I think he is smart enough to refuse to play if he were voted as a starter.

I may be in the minority but I do want Manny back. And, the sooner the better. We’ve lost some of our chemistry without him around. I think he will tell his teammates whatever it takes to make peace. As far as the media, he should just tell them one time that he messed up and let it be over.

Guess Charlie REALLY wants to win the all-star game. At least our very own Joe Torre is keeping it real. And I think Manny would keep it real, too. If he didn’t, it’d be a gross misstep, and polarize the fan base due to the embarassment of many should Manny choose to appear in the all-star game.
But I’m pretty certain he would enjoy a 3-day break after taking in all the punishment from the long road trip that opens his return.
