A windy weekend

With the team in Chicago for the four-game set, wanted to make sure those of you looking to watch it on TV aren’t lost. There’s been a slight change with the channel on Time Warner Cable, so if you used to watch it on Channel 413, please note that this week, it’ll be on Channel 463 and then starting June 6, it’ll be on Channel 464. Sorry for an inconvenience. If you didn’t watch in HD, you’re not affected at all.

As for the game out there, here’s the lineup:

Pierre, LF

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Loney, 1B

Blake, 3B

Ethier, RF

Martin, C

Kemp, CF

Wolf, P

And here’s Joe Torre’s pregame chat:

The change in the lineup is really due to the fact that Casey is in the middle. We stacked left/righty from there.

We’ll have to pay attention to Furcal. I’ll probably give him tomorrow off and then he’ll play Saturday and Sunday.

Kuroda felt good and he threw well. His movement just wasn’t what he wanted. We’ll make a decision next after he throws his bullpen tomorrow. He didn’t have an arm issue so I’m not sure he needs another start down there.

Xaxier Paul left the hospital yesterday.

My guess is Brox won’t be available tonight. We’d use Troncoso.

Kuo had a sim game that wasn’t good. He was wild. But he had a bullpen that was better.

I’m so glad Xavier was released from the hospital. And, can’t wait for Kuroda to come back.

  2. nellyjune

It’s good to see X.Paul out to the hospital……….wonderful news!!!!!

I like the lineup. It’s easy to mix this group up for the most part, and hopefully we can see some power out of our power guys tonight. It’s good to see Raffy in the lineup tonight.

    Happy Anniversary Nelly!

I’m doing good, just breaking in the new laptop I got, and gearing up for another day of work (@ 5, which means I’ll miss the goings on in Chi Town). I read that transcript before and nearly puked on the keyboard laughing. Forgot where it came from, though, thanks for finding it, Tru!

I don’t know about the tour. Not because of money or anything, just time off. Finally getting decent hours at work, and need to take a weekend off in Early July for a family reunion, so I don’t wnat to mess things up. Though I am sad that there’s no Dodgers homestand remotely near when I can make it to SoCal. Blech.

To those who are going, though, enjoy it! It’s a once-in-a-lifetime sort of experience for sure (unless you work for the Dodgers or are using 20’s to light your cigars rolled in 100’s. . . oh wait, that last one is for seats in the “Legends Suite” in the Bronx). It’s nice to have an organization that takes care of the fans like this. $10 for a tour? can you still get a seat in the Pavillion for $10?

Alright, better start getting ready for work. KEEP THE CUBBIES LOVEABLE… KNOCK ‘EM INTO THE NEXT CENTURY OF FUTILITY!!!

  4. trublu4ever

NSB ~ Best wishes on new job. Great posts on the last thread. I wish you could join us on the tour.
    .
Glad you are back NellyJune! I’m glad you were able to get away where is was nice and cool. I’ve been sitting here sweating my a** off for the past two days!

  5. nellyjune

Thanks northstateblues………………… and even though we understand why you can’t be at the tour, it won’t be the same without you. I still think us Nor-Cal (and any others who can come up here) Dodger fans should get together at a Dodger/Gnat game at AT&T Park sometime.

  6. oldbrooklynfan

    Hi Everybody
I’ll also be watching a different channel tonight, In the other room, MLB Network, I’ll at least be getting the game in real time and take a break from the screwy MLB.TV.
I need a new small TV in the computer room as the old one has lost it’s picture. What can you expect from a 29 year old set.
We have to keep winning with no let up as the Padres won’t give us a break
    GO DODGERS*************************************

  7. enchantedbeaver

    Happy anniversary Nells!!!

For those of you going on the tour… if you get to meet Ned, kick him in the groin for me for signing Mota and Ohman. Then when you’ve got his attention, tell him nice job on the everyday line-up.

IMO, Mota and Ohman are two of the main reasons we have to have a 13 man staff.

  8. trublu4ever

Enchanted ~ we need you to come on the tour! You do the kicking and we will all stand behind you!!!!

  9. thinkingblue

NELLY – Your daughter is a Dodger. She just doesn’t want to hurt your husband’s feelings…GOOOO DODGERS!
    *
NSTATE…WOW! I read what you said in the previous thread. The problem with men (and women) is that they keep pushing themselves to do better and break records, some of those records are becoming dangerous for humans….so for sportsmen they go for the PEDs. I do think that all sports should have to pee atleast once during the middle of the season.
    *
I’m jealouse of EMMA…she is in Chicago enjoy the GAME…LOVE CHICAGO….LOVE THE DODGERS!
    *
    GOOOOOO DODGERS!

  10. nellyjune

    Thank you dodger4life and enchanted!!!

I think Wally and Beav want to remain boys of mystery, keeping all of us guessing what they are really like 🙂

  11. thinkingblue

QUESTION: So does the Dodgers have the record of scoring in the 1st inning?
    *
    NOT GOOD DRE’

  12. nellyjune

I don’t think Andre flying out is bad, striking out…..yes. At least if he is flying out, he is making contact. It’s the 2 K’s in a game that are killer for me.

  13. lbirken@aol.com

Enchanted, I would not be surprised to find out Joe agrees with you (about the pitching, not about kicking Ned in the groin). However, if the starters could be counted on to go deeper into games, that extra pitcher would not be needed.

  14. thinkingblue

He is hot with or wihout the beard….oh oh hitting! Yeah no shaving allowed if he improves…

  15. messagebear@msn.com

It’s amazing that we keep winning when you consider that since Manny’s been gone Paul and Hoffmann each have more home runs playing only a few games than Ethier and Kemp have playing regularly. I’d also venture to say that Pierre has more total bases than the other two outfielders combined in the same time span. Somebody correct me if that’s wrong.

  16. thinkingblue

Pierre is HOT right now but he will cool down. Ethier is cool right now but will get HOT….it is all a cycle. Hey just as long that they don’t all cool down at the same time.

  17. thinkingblue

    GOOOOO DODGERS!
Well I hope ya’ll enjoy the rest of the game & the chatting, but I have to feed some children, then I will go out for some Sushi!
    GOOOOOO DODGERS

  18. trublu4ever

It’s like Juan is the only one on the team! I’m getting a little miffed! Casey Blake is playing great! Loney is heating up but, do we hear about them? NO!!!! I know Pierre is playing great right now but, we are a team damn it!

  19. sparkleplenty_1

Eric, Psycho, Charlie and Rick should become Pierre’s agents. They’re doing a great job of selling him.

  20. nellyjune

..then I say “sell away!!!” Charlie, Rick, Psycho, and Eric………”sell away!!!” The mlb.tv is doing a great job of calling the game…………….they are talking about both teams very equally.

  21. oldbrooklynfan

Boy, that Randy Wells spent so much time throwing over to first like he almost forgot Furcal at the plate,

  22. enchantedbeaver

BTW, does Gagne really want to pitch for the Dodgers, or does Boras just want to bilk Ned out a few more million?

  23. trublu4ever

I don’t think Gagne can pitch any more. So, there is a good chance he will end up with the Dodgers!

  24. messagebear@msn.com

I’d like to know who Bradley’s agent is – he really pulled one over on the Cubbies, $30 million. Can you believe that?

  25. enchantedbeaver

JP sure doesn’t believe in letting the pitcher get a minute or two rest on the bench does he?

  26. nellyjune

Nice inning boys…………….let’s get some insurance runs…………………10 ought to do it………….well, maybe 🙂

  27. oldbrooklynfan

WOLF pitched a gem and he really deserves a win, if they could only get it for him.
    .
    LET’S GO RAMON

  28. koufax1963

Holy moley Break out the shots! T&T did it. Go Dodgers!
Way to start it up and get it done! Wolf Just fabulous! just what we needed!

  29. koufax1963

    Hi Tru blu
    Just Awesome.! How are you?
I think I would of pinch hit for Mr. T, but Torre had it right!

  30. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

When he put those first two runners on, I was about ready to empty the flask. But he did it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great job, Ramon!!!!!!!

  31. nellyjune

There is seesky!!!!……………………just in time too 🙂

    FABULOUS WIN DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. shad80

Maybe Wade or Leach? I really doubt it if that was the last year Wade yes but still don’t trust him.

  33. nellyjune

That was as nail-biting as they come, and I am sure we are going to be in for plenty more. However, as long as we are on the winning end of them…………………..it’s all good 🙂

  34. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

We haven’t had a lot of close, low scoring games this year. Winning these types of games are particularly sweet…. Does joepierre know about the Maglie no-hitter audio on youtube??? If not, I think he would really enjoy it.

  35. boblee4014

Wow, great win. Never got to comment. Was watching on the big screen downstairs and my computer is upstairs. Way to go. We need 2 of the next 3 at least.

  36. nellyjune

…hopefully they let our nails grow back a bit before the next one……………………well, on second thought………..a tad before tomorrow 🙂

  37. jhallwally

Merci BleuFille’!!! Likewise. I must admit, I wasn’t too optimistic when Tron loaded them up with 1 out. Maybe the kid is turning the corner.

  38. jhallwally

Hell’, I’m down to the first knuckle. I won’t have any fingers left with this bullpen. LOL!!!

  39. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

3 out of 4 in this series would be great but it’s tough to do on the road. Unless, of course, you’re playing NL West opponents.

  40. trublu4ever

Koufax, Jhall and the rest of the gang ~ Wow, that was an exciting finish! I’ll be all four games are like this one.

  41. jhallwally

I’d love to take 3 of 4 on the road, but a split would be acceptable. If we play .500 on the road and take care of our house, we’ll be sleeping in 4 leaf clovers!!!!

  42. nellyjune

sparkleplenty – I am already wearing acrylic nails, and it won’t be long before I am biting through those. LOL!!!!

jhall – no kidding!!! BTW – you and enchanted will be very much missed at this tour if you are not there.

  43. enchantedbeaver

I can’t remember the last time this team was 19 games over .500, let alone started a season like this.

  44. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

The best Dodger record after 50 games would be an interesting stat to find out.

  45. jhallwally

LOL Sky!! I was ready to set the darn drapes on fire if Tron blew this game. HaHa!!!
Thanks Nelly!! I’d love to be there, but unfortunately, it isn’t in the cards this year. I’m sure you, Trumom, and Eric will represent me well.

  46. enchantedbeaver

Its the power of the garden gnome Tru. THINK JUAN and give it the old Juan-Blue!! LMAO!!!

  47. jhallwally

LOL Trumom!!! I had pretty much accepted that we were going to lose it. I had to to keep from burning the darn drapes if we lost. :))))

  48. jhallwally

Besides, I’m not sure Josh would not have Dodger security waiting for Beav and myself!!! LOL!!!

  49. enchantedbeaver

My luck if I went on the tour I wind up alone in a dark corner of the stadium with JP, Ned, Joe, Frank & Jamie.

  50. enchantedbeaver

Anyone think Kuroda might need another week or so in rehab before we bring him back? 7 runs and 9 hits in 5 innings against single A hitters isn’t what I’d call impressive.

  51. trublu4ever

During tomorrow’s game I am going to keep track of how many times they refer to Juan as: fantastic; awesome; unreal, etc. I’ll bet you it will be close to 50 times!

  52. enchantedbeaver

I’m really shocked thar so far JP hasn’t cost us any games with his arm.

    Agreed on Kuroda Wally.

  53. jhallwally

I am much happier with our owners, GM, manager, and Phew (as long as he keeps his OBP above .360) than last year. They made some huge blunders the first couple of years, but, to their credit, seem to have learned from it!!! I can live with that. It is totally unacceptable to keep making the same mistakes however!!!!

  54. jhallwally

Just a thought, but does anyone think it is a coincidence that the guys have come together as a team since Jeffy Kent is gone. I think he was a much bigger problem than we really know.

  55. trublu4ever

Jhall ~ I think Jeff was a cancer in the clubhouse! Not just ours, but even when he was a Giant.
    .
I love pirates, Enchanted! Thar she blows!!!

  56. jhallwally

LOL Trumom!!! Totally on it!!! There’s a reason he doesn’t have a ring!!! Self absorbed A-hole!!!!

  57. sparkleplenty_1

The one PVL who has more than taken up the slack is Orlando. He’s always upbeat, smiling, and plays his heart out.

  58. nellyjune

…even JP has filled that role pretty good as a true pvl since being in his hot streak…………………..did I just say that?????……………….OMG!!!! I did!!!!!! ….just maybe I am turning a corner.

  59. enchantedbeaver

I don’t think there’s a veteran on this team that you couldn’t point to as a positive influence – Hudson, Blake, Loretta, et al (even Pierre right now.) They didn’t have any of that last year except from Manny and a little from Blake.

  60. trublu4ever

LMAO, Enchanted! It very well could be our bullpen!
    .
NellyJune ~ what the hell happened to you?! Did the ocean air affect your senses?! Are you sure this is NellyJune?!

  61. nellyjune

I wouldn’t go that far enchanted…………………..Mariya perhaps. She gives us all a bad time for giving JP a hard time. We still have a little over a month for things to go back to the way they were in the Dodger Universe, and the Ethieraholics and the Juanpians will be just as they were meant to be.

  62. nellyjune

Ethieraholics NEVER give up on Andre, no matter how hard it hurts sometimes. It’s taking everything in my power to be nice when it comes to JP.

  63. nellyjune

That’s right jhall!!!!!………………….you keep smilin because in the end the Ethieraholics will prevail and the juanpians will be left with nothing but a noodle arm to call their own 🙂

  64. trublu4ever

NellyJune ~ you have more restraint than I do…….I didn’t say anything for a while but, I can’t take it anymore. He is doing a good job but, so is everyone else on the team. I think Manny is missed by Andre, Russell and Matt. He had thm loose and seeing the ball well. When Manny comes back, then what happens? You know Joe love Juan, so Andre or Matt will sit and, I won’t be able to tolerate that!

  65. bluecrewgirl

Trublu, Andre is showing signs of coming around and I am hoping the next few weeks will be like Sept. of 2008 for him. Keeping my fingers crossed.

  66. jhallwally

LOL Beav!! No, I think Mom is biting her lip and showing composure until the inevitable real Phew shows up!!!!

  67. nellyjune

enchanted – If I am……….I am not doing a very good job of hiding it. I get reprimanded every day from my daughter about my behavior, and I hear your father got the same talkin’ to.

  68. trublu4ever

I had to vent a little bit tonight, NellyJune! I almost turned to drinking, listening to Charlie and Rick talking about how Juanderful Pierre is. he’s just Juaninamillion, isn;t he?!

  69. nellyjune

….perfect timing as always Ward Dear. Thank God you are home. They are calling me names……………..of the worst kind too………………… a juanpian.

  70. nellyjune

After tonight’s game, the Dodgers placed Will Ohman on the disabled list, according to Dodgers broadcaster Charley Steiner (via Dodger Thoughts commenter Dave60). The team called up catcher A.J. Ellis, moving back to a 12-man pitching staff and freeing Brad Ausmus to pinch-hit more frequently.

  71. jhallwally

I don’t have a huge problem with people jumping on the Phew wagon. I have to say that I am impressed with the way he has responded and played since Manny got suspended. He is a very huge and pleasant surprise. I hope he can keep it up. Bottom line is, I want our Dodgers to bring home a championship. I don’t care if it is freaking Lance Carter or Danys Baez that get the job done. LOL!!!! Just get it done!!!

  72. jwoski

Answer to “seeskybout”: The best Dodger record after 50 games was 38 wins/ 12 losses accomplished by the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers who starded the season with 10 wins and ended the season by winning the World Series for the first time in Dodger history in 7 games against the Damm Yankees. I hope the same thing happens this year. Especially for Torre!!!

  73. seeskybout2rain@comcast.net

Best Dodger records after 50 games, courtesy of baseball-reference.com:
Los Angeles Dodgers: 36-14 in 1974
    Brooklyn Dodgers: 38-12 in 1955

  74. dodgereric

Just get behind me Junie, I’ll protect you from those ruffians!! Well, you better turn your back for a minute as well. This might get ugly……

I need to answer messagebear’s challenge (at least I think it was him)

Extra-base hits since, well, you know:
    Pierre – 12 (9 – 2Bs, 3 – 3Bs)
    Kemp – 3 (1 of each)
    Ethier – 3 (all doubles)

    FABULOUS SONG ENCHANTED!!!!!!!!

  78. dodgereric

jhall, mes ami! (Is that right? LOL!!!) Are you sure there’s no way you can find your way out here next month? Man, it would be OUT-FRIGGIN-STANDING!®

  79. jhallwally

Thanks Chevelle!!! Not looking good for me. It would be totally freaking awesome to meet and hang with you and mom!!!! As well as the rest of this great gang of Blue Bleeders!!!!

  80. jhallwally

I think Beav and I are afraid that Ned, Phew’s mama, and Dodger security would be there to greet us!!! LOL!!!

  81. dodgereric

I didn’t know e was still around, else I’d have included you in that lament! Great song e! And believe it or not, I caught the ‘toe’ thing and changed it when I posted ‘er at DodgerLyrics.

  82. jhallwally

I can hear Beav now; “I ain’t afraid of Ned or Dodger security”!!!! Who ya gonna call; Phew Busters!!!!

  83. enchantedbeaver

Yeah jhall, they’d know who I was as soon as I kicked Ned in the groin.

Thanks E, and no worries – I had to write that quick little ditty so was gone a few minutes.

  84. jhallwally

Gotta remember Dad, Beav is always around/present. Like Wolfman Jack!!! LOL!!!! Rock and Roll!!!!

  85. dodgereric

Lyons mentioned during the game that Pierre can’t be intimidated.

  86. jhallwally

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when Dad meets Ned, Nelly meets Phew, and Beav tells JoJo how to manage!!! LOL!!!

  87. jhallwally

LOL!!! Spring training Nelly!!! Got to meet most all the players I really liked at Vero!!! Brett Butler was by far the best!!!

  88. jhallwally

I’d love to see Butler back in the Dodger fold. He would be a great influence on our young team. Class act all the way!!!!

  89. jhallwally

I went to Vero 12 times Chevelle!!! One of the best things I ever did and experienced. Now that ST is out there, you should take advantage of it. You will never regret it.

  90. dodgereric

I agree on getting Butler back. I’m big on tradition, and bringing guys back in the fold can be great.

I got close this year, I was in Phoenix less than a week before they opened camp. Maybe next year.

The only Dodger I ever met in person was Ron Cey, but it wasn’t pretty.

  91. nellyjune

That’s great jhall!!!! I think Spring Training may be a great thing next year.

I don’t think any player has to worry about me becoming a stalker fan. Both times I actually got to meet Andre, I was a basket case and barely got two words out…….and I would never go up to them if I saw them out and about in their private life activities outside of the realm of a Dodger function. I respect their everyday life as people.

  92. jhallwally

My first ST was in 1988!!! Over the 5 years we had the rookie of the year, I carried the baseball back and got them all to sign it. One of my treasured possesions.

  93. nellyjune

….be careful what you wish for jhall 🙂 LOL!!! I am truly just kidding. If anybody can tell a wonderful story, it’s dodgereric.

  94. dodgereric

    That’s awesome! What a keepsake!

I’ve got a Duke Snider ball here in the house. A kid we used to carpool with was playing ball nearby and his dad spotted the Duke in the crowd and told him to go get his sig for me. What a surprise! Too bad I didn’t get to meet him.

  95. nellyjune

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!! enchanted – that happens to all of us!!!!!!!! You didn’t miss much that you can’t catch up on.

  96. jhallwally

Too cool Dad/Chevelle!!! I’d love to have a Snider ball. Reese and Hodges too. I did run into Ralph Branca and got his autograph. It was funny, as that day, I wore my Brooklyn t-shirt and hat to the game. He autographed the ball and my Brooklyn hat. Nice fellow also.

  97. enchantedbeaver

Gee Wally, I’m surprised Mom and Dad aren’t sore at us for staying up late on a school night.

  98. nellyjune

Well you know his stories take time. Ethier that or he is having computer issues and is yelling at his computer at the moment.

  99. nellyjune

Me sore? I took the day off from school – LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! Now, your father……………that’s another story.

  100. dodgereric

    Oh, twist my arm…………..

Probably ’78 – ’79. I went to a game with 3 friends. We worked together and played slowpitch together too. I don’t think all 4 of us were ever in the seats at the same time. Must have had 80 beers between us. Oh, on the way into the park, we saw a 240Z (or 260 or 280) with the plates “3B 10” on it. Looking through the windows, we saw several bats inside.

Anyway, after the game we had to pass by his car again. There must have been 30 kids waiting. We thought we’d wait to see how he handled it. Once he got there, he signed a couple of autographs and got in his car and started it up. We said, “Man, he’s gonna take off!” and we started walking through the lot towards my old ’68 Chevelle.

He came roaring through the lot, passing by us about 25 feet away. One of my buddies yelled out, “I LIKE DUSTY BAKER BETTER!” He slams on the brakes, jumps out and yelled back, “DON’T YOU CALL ME A MOTHER-YOUKNOWWHAT”. Only he didn’t say youknowwhat.

We just kind of stared at each other for a second. We were awfully drunk, but we were pretty sure we didn’t say that and told him so. But then I started ripping into him for not signing for all those kids. He said, “I signed for every kid who brought a pen.” I said, “You just signed a big contract (I think it was about $300K, big at the time), you can afford to keep a 19-cent Bic pen in your car’s visor for those kids who think you’re God!”

This went on for a minute or two and then he took off again. We were actually both impressed and appalled that he would stop to confront 4 drunken construction workers all alone in the parking lot. At least we got said what needed to be said.

  101. nellyjune

I told you – LOL!!!!!!! Didn’t I tell you……………..boys, you never listen to me, do you?

You’re most welcome! I think that came from The Flintstones, but I wouldn’t swear to it.

I’m very tired for some reason, so I’m going to have to say, “Goodnight and God Bless you and yours”. And pass on my best wishes to Bill. He got himself a good one 21 years ago. As did you!

Frank McCourt has no problem with Manny Ramirez playing in All-Star game

Dodgers owner says if fans vote him into the lineup, ‘It’d be a great honor.’
    By Dylan Hernandez
    On The Dodgers

    May 29, 2009

Reporting from Chicago — Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said he would like to see Manny Ramirez play in the All-Star game if fans vote him into the National League’s starting lineup.

Ramirez, who is serving a 50-game suspension for violating baseball’s drug policy, was fourth among NL outfielders in the first round of balloting. The top three will start in the game, which will be played July 14 in St. Louis.

“Do I want to see him?” McCourt said.

“Sure, if he gets voted in. It’d be a great honor.”

The news of Ramirez’s controversial All-Star candidacy made national headlines this week, but McCourt said he was unaware of where his $25-million left fielder stood in the balloting.

When informed, he said, “The fans are going to make up their own minds about this. I think fans think for themselves and they’re entitled to do that.”

McCourt, who watched the Dodgers earn a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Thursday, said he hasn’t spoken to Ramirez since they met at the outfielder’s Pasadena apartment on May 9.

McCourt maintained his stance that he didn’t think it was necessary for Ramirez to explain how and why he violated baseball’s drug policy.

McCourt said the mounting evidence that Ramirez used steroids hasn’t changed his mind. Ramirez was suspended for having a prescription for HCG, but The Times reported that no trace of the female fertility drug was found in Ramirez’s system and that the drug test Ramirez took in spring training was flagged for having an unusually elevated synthetic testosterone level, leading anti-doping experts to say that Ramirez took steroids.

“I don’t have the expertise nor have I seen any of the tests or the results, so I’m not in the position myself to address any of it,” McCourt said.

Sources in Ramirez’s camp have indicated that he will offer few, if any, details of the circumstances that led to his suspension.

McCourt said he would be fine with that.

“Only he can decide what he should say,” McCourt said. “Personally, I would look forward not backward. That’s just my philosophy. But he’s going to have to deal with this the way it’s most comfortable for him to deal with it. I think once you acknowledged your mistake, what more is there to say?”

But for Ramirez to acknowledge his mistake, doesn’t he have to say what the mistake was?

“Personally, I don’t think so,” McCourt said.

McCourt said his preference to “look forward and not backward” wasn’t like that of suspected steroid user Mark McGwire, who said at a congressional hearing on performance-enhancing drugs in 2005 that he wasn’t there to “talk about the past.”

“It’s a very different situation,” McCourt said.

McCourt said he’s pleased with the way Ramirez has handled the situation so far.

McCourt asked Ramirez to address his teammates and Ramirez did that in Florida two weeks ago.

Asked if he was concerned that Ramirez’s performance as a Dodger has been fueled by steroids and that he might not be the same player when he returns on July 3, McCourt didn’t answer the question directly.

“I think Manny is a very, very talented baseball player and I think he’s going to come back and contribute,” he said.

“That’s all I have to say.”

McCourt said he expects Ramirez to play in the minor leagues to prepare for his activation.

Under league rules, Ramirez will be permitted to play in as many as 10 minor league games.

I know that it’s not in Mr. McCourt’s best interest to say he doesn’t want his guy in the All-Star Game if elected. He’s still paying him lots of money, he’s still on the team, and obviously everything is emotionally compounded by the positive (no pun intended) impact Manny had in his short time with the Dodgers before the suspension.

    But this begs the question:

    Whatever happened to “No Comment”?

    The Fifth? The F-i-f “Fifth”?!!!

This is just like lobbing a slow-pitch softball to those windbag Steinbrenners to do a bit of soapboxing while their roid-bunny will probably be starting at third that night (Why is A-Rod a bunny? Answer is it’s 12:44am on a Thursday, and nothing like a few ice cold brews after work). I don’t know what the talking heads of the nation’s AM dial will have to say about this (since it is still very early), but I’m guessing that the old adage will be proven: Better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

    Silence can be golden.

Good Morning Enchanted & Dodger4life. With Chad pitching today, I am confident we will chalk up another WIN!!
    .
Great late night reading material from all of you night owls.

  113. messagebear@msn.com

Dodgereric, thanks for having the information to prove my point that Pierre has more total bases than Ethier and Kemp put together since you know what. I didn’t say it to demean Andre and Matt, but it is about time for both of them to start HITTING. I’m also glad to see Ellis up with the big club. Not that he’s a power hitter, but then neither is Martin, and maybe having another potential catcher presence will light some fire under Martin as well.

  114. trublu4ever

Bear ~ I think they brought Ellis up in order to give Joe more options off the bench. He can now use Ausmus or even Ellis as a pinch hitter and still have a back-up catcher just in case something should happen to Russell. Don’t you agree?

  115. messagebear@msn.com

Yes, I do agree that is the case, trublu. I just like to dig at Martin a bit, because his offensive history over the three seasons that he’s now been with us is all going in the wrong direction. He needs to recognize that if he doesn’t turn it around, he may not be the permanent catcher up here.

  116. Dodger4life

Good morning enchanted , tru and bear…Thats what they say tru. I think Ausmus could actually use a little more at bat time. It must be tough not being able to lend a helping hand in these good times.

  117. shad80

Well in hockey Red Wings normal carries 3 goalies but they had old man Hasek so I guess carries 3 catchers won’t be so bad but would like to see Mitch Jones up here or give Repko another shot but don’t know if Repko is out of option.

  118. shad80

I was just reading the power ranking from yesterday. 1. Los Angeles Dodgers (34-15; Previous: 1) – Lasorda to represent club at draft, promises to return from 62nd round with another Piazza.

  119. trublu4ever

Enchanted ~ Thanks to you and the other Juanpians, Facebook now has: Juan Pierre, the forgotten left fielder (a bid to get him in the All-Star Game) and Juan Pierre is God (a group you can join)!

  120. shad80

I bet the AL fans are trying to get him in to win another homefield advantage which is a joke lol. Should do like basketball and hockey where the best record gets it.

  121. kpookiemon

Maybe Ellis can start a game…just to nudge Mr. Martin a bit. Tell me again why Martin consistently bats ahead of Kemp? Kemp has better numbers across the board…more hits, more runs scored, more RBIs, more stolen bases, more power. OK, Kemp leads the team in Ks, but he’s hitting 30 points higher than Martin. Whatever, the Dodgers are 16-7 post Manny. I should probably take a chill pill on Martin………..or not.

  122. nellyjune

To be on a major hot streak is one thing, but to be named an All-Star is quite another. Will this nightmare ever end, or is this just punishment for not being the nice person I normally am?

  123. trublu4ever

Kahli ~ I have a season-long supply of Chill-Pills! I think I’m going to have to re-order soon because my supply is already running low!

  124. thinkingblue

    Good Morning ITD
Well it sucks to read about ETHIER, MARTIN & KEMP. But it is true. They do need to improve. Sometimes I feel like walking up to them and just slapping them across the face just to have the snap out of it. LOVE my boys, they are my fave but hey I’m a mom and sometimes the kids need a lil’ something to make them behave and come to their senses!
    ETHIER! ETHIER! ETHIER!
    MARTIN! MARTIN! MARTIN!
    KEMP! KEMP! KEMP!
    *
I’m with you TRU and I know a lot of you feel the same here. I’ve complain so many times about how the media like to just give the credit to one person in the team. It is not about MANNY it is not about PIERRE. Last night games 1st inning scored was awesome, but it wasn’t because of PIERRE. The punt hit was amazing, it went far and FURCAL should be the one getting the MOST of the credit (PIERRE+FURCAL=1RUN). Now I feel like walking over the media and slapping them across the face. DODGERS IS A TEAM! WOLF was great! HUDSON had a great hitting streak….GOOOOO HUDSON. BLAKE has been great consistently. PIERRE best improvement!
    *
HOMEFIELD advantage should be based on best record. Can fans vote on who decides homefield advantage!
    *
    GOOOOO DODGERS

  125. thinkingblue

Oh no article PERU…just the comments from some people here, and hearing my family (which are dodgers fans). And hearing Vin and other commentators mentioned how they have been in a slump etc. etc.

  126. perumike

You know guys, it’s day like this (an 11am start) that make me especially happy to work from home! 🙂 Go Blue!!!

  127. perumike

Yeah, I worked in my office for the first 7 years at this job, for the last 1.5 it’s been at home and it is pretty nice. 🙂
