Memorial Day in Denver

From what I understand, the Lakers are sharing our hotel in Denver (I’m not on this trip), so let’s hope it’s a two-win day for L.A.

In the meantime, I hope everyone gets a chance today to pay tribute to those who have fought for our country and those who have lost their lives doing so. Afterall, that’s what today is all about, right?

Out in Denver, here’s the team that will take the field for the Dodgers:

Pierre, LF

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Blake, 3B

Martin, C

Loney, 1B

Kemp, CF

Hoffmann, RF

Stults, P

I’m not there so I can only assume that after Jamie had such a good day yesterday, Joe decided to give Andre another day to get his toe back in working order. It looked pretty nasty yesterday when I saw it, and it was a heck of a day for the hockey player from Minnesota.

    Let’s go Dodgers……..BEAT THE ROCKIES!!!!!!!!!!!
    .
Thank-you again to all of those who have served our great Country………..This day is for YOU!!!

  2. nellyjune

Happy Memorial Day, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all the men and women currently serving in our military, and I am truly thankful for ALL the men and women who have fought for our country, the most blessed country in the world, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

    GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.

GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET’S BEAT THE ROX!!!!!

Andre ~ Take care of your toe, and we hope to see you back in Right Field ASAP. Until then……………go Jamie!!!!’

I hope it’s possible when Andre comes back to see an outfield of Jamie, Matt and Andre. Why is it that Andre and Matt could have days off, but JP hasn’t had a day off since Manny was suspended? I understand he is doing well, but so were Matt and Andre when they were getting their days off for no reason. Just wonderin’……………

  3. bluecrewgirl

Since Andre wanted to play yesterday and Joe said he should be back in the lineup today, I think it’s kind of odd that he’s not, especially with his batting average against the Rockies. I doubt it was his choice to stay out another day and hate to see him sitting another game when he was starting to come around with the bat. Happy Memorial Day everyone.

  4. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl – I am trying to see it as a precaution, but, I am like you, it’s hard to see anything when it comes to Andre for what it is. I am hoping to see him late in the game perhaps.

  5. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, I’ve learned to never take anything for granted in his position with the Dodgers looking at past history. The other young guys seem to be cut a lot more slack as far as performance is concerned for some reason, which I’ve never understood considering how he’s produced in his time with the Dodgers. It’s disappointing, but no surprise at this point.

  6. bluecrewgirl

You got that right. It’s a lot easier to relax when you never have any competition for your job or at least feel like it’s yours to lose instead of constantly having a fire breathing dragon at your back, lol. By the way, I saw the new Star Trek movie yesterday. I really liked it and would definitely recommend it. I gotta head out for the long boring drive up to Apple Valley to my parents. Have a great rest of the day.

  7. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl – he may have been in a slump, but HE is one of the main reasons we are where we are in the standings now. It just seems like at times his off days are magnified, where others have off days and it goes without a word being said. Like I said earlier in the week, before this last couple of weeks, I thought we, as fans, were not allowed to use Russell’s name in a negative light, but obviously that’s not the case anymore.

  8. nellyjune

Have a great day bluecrewgirl!!! We are supposed to be seeing Star Trek today sometime. Eric and you both have said it was great, so I will let you know 🙂

  9. sparkleplenty_1

Hi Nelly – I saw Star Trek last week, and I must say, it was really good. If you’re a Trekkie, it’s great. If not, it’s still great.

  10. oldbrooklynfan

    Hello Everybody
Hope you’re having a fine Memorial Day.
IMO It’s best to ignore those Padres
Worrying about them can’t do us any good anyway.
    GO DODGERS******************************

  11. oldbrooklynfan

Sparkleplenty: I enjoyed Star Trek, also, I saw it on Saturday.
I would advise anyone who followed it through the years, even if on and off, to definitely see it.
    You’re in for a treat.

  12. northstateblues

chalk up another fan of the Star Trek movie. that was one heck of a ride, and as a fan of Star Trek and the various spinoffs, I’d have to say that it’s really refreshing to see that it wasn’t like a Star Trek movie, and that I could think of many people I know who probably aren’t Star Trek fans who would eat that movie up. Really awesome movie

As for our Dodgers, I’m sure Ethier could use the rest, against his drive to be on the field Everyday. We remember how Martin wants to be in every day against his better judgement, and the effects that it has in the long run. Wanting to play everyday is commendable. But out of everyone here, I’d venture to say Josh is the only one who’s seen his toe, and if he says it’s pretty nasty, maybe it is better to give Ethier another day’s rest, to heal up a bit. That little split is like a little star on the windshield, and all it takes is a change of temperature and a little pressure to send the cracks growing out from the star. Except toenails are connected to nerves, and I’m sure even though he hides the pain, we don’t want it getting infected, and having Ethier miss a lot more than two games.

    Just some food for thought

    Happy Memorial day!
God bless our military! Thank for those that have served and are serving!
    .
I forgot it was an early game today. I was taking a nap only to wake up and hear the TV downstairs on with the game.
    .
    Nelly& bluecrewgirl.
Matt & Andre deserve a day off so I have no problem when they sat. We will need them even more down the season.
    .
My friend Lore, her niece and I went to the Bleacher’s beach Sunday. Great food and we love our bag. Glad I saw Jaime’s HR from there as I saw the guy that caught it! I was jumping up and down and one of those times I was coming down I bumped my shins on the seat in front. Ouch! that hurt a lot! I scraped one of them. We moved about the 4th inning so that we could go back to our seats in the shade. We are taking our “this our Town Dodgertwon” bag to Chicago!

Nice Flanders’ Field reference by Vin Scully. I hated seeing that they changed the caps to Red this year for the veterans’ tribute, but when Scully recalled that quote from the poem (which I read for one of my classes this past semester), dislike of the color red seems so trivial. This is why Vin is a treasure. one of the most enlightened, educated broadcasters in sports, who can insert historical facts without sounding jutty and awkward like when Dennis Miller used to announce for Monday Night Football (“And Tony Gonzalez drove through the Steelers’ line just like Charlemagne drove the Franks to Constantinople, cheh cheh cheh. A Carthagenian feat, to be sure!…”)

We are truly a spoiled fan base with him at the mic.

  15. messagebear@msn.com

“Issues with his back” at least explains why he hasn’t been worth a sh** – just another testimony to Conte’s judgment when it came down to the medical exam over the winter. Like I said, Raffy suckered us for another three years.

  16. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, I got all the way to the 15 and 215 interchange and realized I forgot my cell phone, so I had to turn around and go back to my house to get it. It was a good thing traffic was super light today. I was listening on the radio on the way up and they were saying that apparently the issues Raffy has been having started in Philadelphia, so it sounds like his back is bothering him a bit, but I’m not sure. I hope he’s well soon. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kemp is at the Laker game tonight in Denver. I know you don’t, but I hope they win):

  17. aducker

I think Tommy Lasorda would agree. There’s only two sure ways to get to Heaven. Serve in the military, or play for the Dodgers, or both. But what if you do both? Enter Roy Gleason who won a World Series ring with the Dodgers and then served in Vietnam, apparently the only known MLB player to have served in that conflict.

  18. bluecrewgirl

According to the LA Times, it’s Raffy’s butt, not his back that is sore and that is what he injured injured in Philadelphia, not his back.

  19. bluecrewgirl

De La Rosa does seem to implode after he gives up a few hits and the Dodgers did a great job of taking advantage of it.

  20. oldbrooklynfan

Nice throw out at 3rd by RUSSEL, too bad they scored ,I would’ve liked a big 0 in that inning.

  21. northstateblues

with the uncertainty of big leads being held in Coors Field, it is definitely nice to see the Snakes helping us out with a 7-1 lead over the Pads in the 7th.

Right about now, the Pads remind me of Wile E. Coyote, running across the Grand Canyon from the top of one cliff to the other. We just have to wait for Wile E. to look down, realize where/what he is, and wave bye as he plummets to a little poof by the Colorado River.

    :: whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiistleeeeeeeeeeeee :: SPLAT!!!!

  22. oldbrooklynfan

Too bad for STULTS and the team, it would have been good for a starting pitcher to get a decision.
And also pitch at least 5 innings.

  23. bluecrewgirl

Amazing how quickly even a 7 run lead can disappear at Coors Field. Of course our pitcher’s lack of control contributed greatly to the debacle.

  24. koufax1963

Im beginning to like this hoffman guy! Ha! We got to get Kuroda back and some relief for the bullpen. Our offense with furcal, either of course Manny does not look as tough

  25. koufax1963

This has been a well played inning, clutch hitting, sacrifice bunt, move them over and the Martin single. This game and perhaps the team are adjusting to furcal and either being out, blake and martin batting in new positions. Our bullpen just needs to hang on and then hopefully get a rest

  26. bluecrewgirl

That lady that sang God Bless America had a really nice voice, much better than most of the people they’ve had sing it at Dodger Stadium so far this year.

  27. shad80

Damn I would let Belisario pitch another inning to end the game and let’s see if Mota can go another game without given up a run.

  28. enchantedbeaver

How can you walk 11 batters and be up by 9 runs?

None of you are seriously worried about the Puds are you? They’ve had to win 8-10 games in a row just to be 7 1/2 games out, and in the midst of it tried to trade their best pitcher.

  29. shad80

Man Loney was played gold glove defense until his 1st error in 46 games and their goes his 1.000 fpct.

  30. gagne85

Ohman needs to be designated for assignment. His success in his career has been based on being effectively wild but now he’s just wild.

Victor Garate needs to be given a chance. Right now in AA he’s pitched 13 IP, 6 H, 14/5 K/BB, 1.38 ERA, and lefties are hitting just .067 against him.

We have a number of pitchers doing well in AA who could help us at some point his year: Lindblom and Sartor are probably the two I’d like to see the most.

  31. messagebear@msn.com

Weaver didn’t pitch effectively any more than Ohman did – Belisario got two scoreless innings. So, who should get the win?

  32. enchantedbeaver

“Andre Ethier missed his second straight game, but it wasn’t because of the toe injury. Manager Joe Torre said Ethier was held out because a left-hander was on the mound.”

    Uh-oh.

  33. colliethec

I just wanted to wish a Happy Memorial Day to everybody out there. To those that served & are still serving… Thank you!

  34. colliethec

Good game today. I would of liked to see Stults to of been able to throw strikes & go longer into the game. Walks at Coors are killers and we were very lucky the offense got us W today. To me this continues to be an issue with our pitching (Walks & lead off walks).
    .
We were leading the league in hitting before the game. Those stats should of improved after today. So I think we should refrain from calling for Mattingly’s head for a day or 2!

  35. trublu4ever

Andre can hit and it doesn’t matter who is pitching. He has proven that by playing everyday. Joe thought Dre couldn’t hit lefties until Manny showed up last year, got the opportunity to play, and Dre proved him wrong. I don’t think Joe pays attention to what’s going on in the game.

  36. shad80

Wow the last time I check Toronto batting average were higher and I seen they dropped to #2. LAD .286 Toronto .284, Mets .283, Angels .282 Twins .277 and so on. If Furcal can wake up and get his average to at least .280 we would be around .290+.

  37. colliethec

Don’t worry Tru & BCG & Bear. I think it was a combination of factors that Dre didn’t play.
    .
#1 Toenail. Ouch… even the sheet hurts it.
    .
    #2 Slumping. Nuff said.
    .
#3 Facing a lefty. Yes he can hit them but he is trying to get going and I think Torre wants to put him in the best situation to help him come out of the slump & build some confidence.
    .
Now if in a week Dre isn’t playing then I’ll be unhappy with Joe.

  38. nellyjune

Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!!

Are we starting this crap again about Andre sitting against lefties. This is total BS and absolutely ridiculous!!!! I am so tired of hearing this crap time and time again. It makes me want to scream sometimes. Once again, I rather he be traded then go through this crap again. This is all just a set up to get JP playing time once Manny returns, making Andre and his fans feel like he doesn’t bat well against lefties and giving some rational for playing JP once Manny is back. Like bluecrewgirl said, he has hit 1/2 of his homeruns against lefties, one being against Randy Johnson who doesn’t get homeruns hit off of him that easily. Just when I started believing that Joe understood Andre’s value to this team whether he is hitting the ball or not, we, as fans, get slapped in the face again. sigh….

bluecrewgirl/dodgereric and whoever else recommended it – Star Trek was fabulous!!!!!

  39. nellyjune

collie – this is going to be one of those cases where I really have to see it to believe it. He didn’t sit any of the other starters who weren’t hitting worth anything in April (ie…Russell and James). It just feels like Andre is the only one on the team who is not allowed to have a bad day, week or month on this club and have it affect whether he plays the next day or not.

  40. trublu4ever

Okay, Collie, I’ll take you at your word! I do think Joe knows Andre is an important part of the team’s success.

  41. colliethec

Don’t worry Nelly. Give it a week.
    .
For one that would contradict his statements all year.
    .
Also the press can manipulate what is said. At times they don’t include the whole statement. Maybe he said something to the affect “That Dre has been slumping and has a bad toe. In addition to that he’s been having a tough go of it and there is a lefty on the mound so I’ve decided to give him an extra day off.”.
    .
I’m not saying he said that but he may of said something like that.
    .
I was interviewed 2 weeks ago for the newspaper and they omitted some of what I said and it changed what I had said a little.
    .
I’m just saying that give it time and sometimes peoples words are changed from their meaning or intentions.
    .
I’m an Every Day Dre guy so I want him in there as well. I’m just willing to give it some time before I get annoyed. I get annoyed at work enough!!!

  42. colliethec

    I hear you Nelly.
    .
James hasn’t sat but Russ has. He isn’t benching Dre. I think between the injury and him slumping he (Joe) just wants him (Dre) in there in the best situation for him (Dre).
    .
Now if this continues then I’ll be annoyed. But until then, I will wait to see.
    .
Ironic that when this happened last year it was earlier in the season but also in Colorado.

  43. bluecrewgirl

Nelly, glad you liked Star Trek. It was really good. I thought the same thing as you did when I read that, here we freaking go again. Dcollins, I hope you’re right and I am going to sit back this week and see what happens before I get upset. I know what you mean by work causing enough stress. I just thought this season we would finally be past this crap where he would have to deal with this ridiculous double standard.

  44. colliethec

I hope you & Tru had a great day. Between the racing and baseball it looks like it was a fun day to be off from work or just hanging out!
    .
    You 2 Shad & BCG…

  45. colliethec

Oh & I also loved Star Trek. I thought it was one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in awhile. I’m not a Trekkie but I do like Star Trek the original series.
    .
I’m more of a Star Wars guy.
    .
I posted this before but I’ll re-post in case anyone didn’t see it. There are 2 parts but I’ll just put part 1.
    .
    I think it’s pretty funny.
    .
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugk37TvIR8E

  46. nellyjune

bluecrewgirl – the movie was great. My hubby and son wanted a little more action, but we loved the entire storyline. I even teared up at the end when Kirk and Spock had their last moment. I would have loved to see William Shatner make an appearance, but you can’t have everything I guess. The one weird thing that happened at the theatre is we were standing in line to get popcorn, etc, and this kid comes from the front of the line, and literally tries to walk between Michael and I by pushing me backwards. I mean put both hands in front of him and pushed me backwards where I actually lost a one of my shoes. I am not exactly a small person, and if I were an older lady, he could have easily knocked somebody like that over and hurt them. His mom kind of said sorry, but she never made the kid say anything. Michael and I just looked at each other in shock thinking he’s lucky it was me and not some other kid/teenager who would have knocked him on his behind for doing something like that.

  47. colliethec

OK to clarify, I meant to say one of the funnest not funniest movies..
    .
I thought the actors really nailed their parts and felt like I was watching the younger versions of the characters.

  48. nellyjune

Collie – I watched a few Star Wars movies over the weekend too. I was watching them with my son.

  49. colliethec

    That sounds like fum Nelly!
    .
I have them all on DVD & the old ones on VHS.
    .
I to have done the whole marathon thing. I don’t own many movies but they are a must.
    .
I still have all my old action figures from the 70’s & early 80’s. I was really into Star Wars. I even had most of the card collection at one time.

  50. nellyjune

I thought the characters were awesome!!!! Spock was fantastic!!!!! That character has always intrigued me, and that made it even better. I have the same affection for Lex Luther and Smallville. I watch it to find out how the character unfolds.

  51. bluecrewgirl

It was like watching younger versions of the originals. I thought it was really true to the original and I like the fact that it didn’t go too over the top with special effects.

  52. colliethec

George Lucas lives in Marin and the Lucas Ranch was just a few miles from my house that I grew up in.
    .
I used to see him very often at work, at least once a month but now very rarely. I’ve had friends that work for Lucas Arts which is the video gaming part as well as Lucas Film in the Effects departments. Back in the day many people around here worked for him.

  53. colliethec

Nell — For some reason I find it both intriguing and logical that you like Spock.
    .
I myself am a Bones fan. I like that he was such a pop off.
    .
I think there are some here on ITD that could take on those characters. You agree?

  54. nellyjune

    That is cool Collie!!!!

Bluecrewgirl – It was full of those “ah ha” moments, and that’s what made it fun to watch.

  55. bluecrewgirl

I’d better hit the hay. Since I am at my parent’s house tonight, I have to get up a 1/2 hr. earlier, at 5:00 AM. Ouch! Talk to you all later.

  56. colliethec

BCG — Agreed. Those were both my favorite parts of this movie. I’ll be seeing it with Wifey later this week! She hasn’t seen it yet so that should be fun.
    .
Also we got free tix to the Giants game on Wednesday night so we get a game in this week as well! Go Braves!!! We had some for tomorrow as well but I’ve got a game so oh well had to pass them up.
    .
Yikes… I’m rambling and told Wifey I’d be in bed by 11:00 so I’ve got to go. Take care BCG, Nelly, Tru, Shad and all others that are on here and have a great tomorrow!

  57. colliethec

I was just stealing some of Spock’s lines and thought they fit a little.
    .
Mainly “logical” because you are a teacher which I equate intelligence with education.
    .
Thus, “that would be highly logical” (Captain).
    .
& since it is ‘logical” in that aspect it makes it “intriguing”.

  58. nellyjune

Gotcha!!!!! That makes it twice I have not gotten a movie reference in the last couple of days. Eric made one the Saturday in reference to Star Wars and I didn’t get that either. Very clever indeed by both of you 🙂

  59. colliethec

Well if Jhall or Enchanted come on and say to Eric, “You are my father” there will be another one for you!
    .
That also may of not been you not getting the reference as much as it’s my mind has a strange sense of humor. Just ask Wifey. Although she seems to enjoy it. I guess ask her in another 10 years and that might be different! LOL!
    .
Okay gotta go now or I’ll be in trouble! Take care… & Go Blue!!!
    .
Bring the Ring to LA in 2009!!!

  60. nellyjune

Now that I got!!! Good Night Collie. I have even read some new children’s chapter books, which have references to lines in StarWars now, and the kids know them right away.

  61. Dodger4life

Good morning ITD, Dodger Faithful, I missed the game yesterday. I decided to get in a round of golf, myself. Just watched the highlight’s and what a game, the Dodgers managed to get a couple of runners across the plate….
    .
The homepage say’s Manny is back at Dodger Stadium working out. I am glad to hear that, Good to see ya Manny!!!
    .
    Keep on keepin on Boy’s!!!!
Bring the Ring to L. A. in 2009!!!!!
    .
    GO DODGERS!!!!!!!

  62. thinkingblue

Good Morning ITD, TRU and D4Lilfe…Well that is great news that Manny is back with the team. I am sure the fans will welcome him back. WELCOME BACK MANNY GOOD TO HEAR THAT YOU ARE WORKING OUT!
    *
I just have to say, I saw the games agains the Angels, and they were fascinating games. Too bad we lost the series. I was happy to see that Hoffman did his first homerun in front on his family. Too bad Wade ruined it for him. I am blaming Wade. I’m sorry but it has been twice. Wade just handed the win to the Angels. I use to love Wade, but he has just not been pitching well. C’mon Wade.
    *
I do believe the umps did not like Andre….Poor Andre. I hope he is doing better and hope to see him playing today. Miss you Dre’.
    *
    GOOOOOO DODGERS!

  63. enchantedbeaver

I’m fully expecting The Toaster to have a meltdown at Coors tonight, which brings up the point:
    .
When Kuroda gets back in 2-3 weeks, who goes?
    .
DFA Mota or Milton?, or option Leach or Wade?

Also, have you noticed that Weaver is far more effective as a starter than as a long man in the pen?

  64. nellyjune

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!

In my tirade about Andre last night, I forgot to congratulate the team on a job very well done. I am sooo happy we are proving we can win without #99. I am not expecting to win every game, but it’s great to feel like we have a chance to win every game.

  65. nellyjune

Good Morning ITD readers and writers!!!!

In my tirade about Andre last night, I forgot to congratulate the team on a job very well done. I am sooo happy we are proving we can win without #99. I am not expecting to win every game, but it’s great to feel like we have a chance to win every game.

  66. nellyjune

enchanted – that’s a toss-up because none of them have been doing well as of late. If it were me……………..DFA Mota.

  67. thinkingblue

Enchanted I am mad at Wade, but I will have to go with Mota. Leach has potential and not to familiar with Milton.

  68. dodgereric

    Gooooood morning, ITD!

    Just a quick hit-and-run during breaktime…….

To answer my friend enchanted’s question – no, I didn’t notice, but the facts bear you out:

    Starter 3 games, .214 BA, 15 IP, 3.00 ERA, 1.267 WHIP
    Reliever 4 games, .355 BA, 7.1 IP, 4.91 ERA, 1.909 WHIP

And if Torre ‘over-rests’ Ethier when Ramirez returns, my personal campaign to vilify (speak ill of, malign, denigrate, run down, pull to pieces, belittle, disparage, libel, slander, do a hatchet job on, criticize, pillory*) will be under way again.**

    *Thanks to Microsoft Word Thesaurus
**Unless Ramirez doesn’t apologize properly to the fans. In which case I won’t be watching anymore.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming (work)

  69. nellyjune

One factor that will contribute to the outfield is Furcal. If Furcal goes down, Pierre stays (as lead-off) and Andre once again becomes the victim of circumstances out of his control. Just thinkin’ once again, but I am reading what others are saying about Furcal on other blogs (Dodger Thoughts in particular), and the DL is a very much a possibility.

  70. nellyjune

dodgereric – Good!!!! ……because this Ethieraholic will be very unhappy if this happens again. I am thinking of other words than unhappy, but they will only lead to an asterisk. As far as Manny, I hope for ITD’s sake, he does the right thing by you.

  71. trublu4ever

If Furcal goes on the DL, we better hope he returns before Manny is scheduled to come back. I DO NOT WANT JUAN AS THE PERMANENT LEAD-OFF MAN!!!!!!! I will really be P***** OFF if Andre gets screwed once again!!!!

  72. thinkingblue

Well Ethier is a stronger player than Pierre. I think Ethier Arm and HR are more needed than Pierre’s abillity to still. I know that Pierre has been hot for a while, but he has been cooling off and Ethier was just starting to warm back up again before his injury. I’m with Nelly….this Ethieraholic will also be UNHAPPY.

  73. nellyjune

….but in Joe’s head, a lead-off man is more important than an arm in left or center field (if this happens upon or after Manny’s return). The only reason it changed last season was because JP himself got injured. I would think Hudson could be lead off (or Matt), but I think there is too much JP love when it comes to Joe.

  74. thinkingblue

Can Pierre play any other position than Outfield? Can he take Furcal’s place while Furcal is in DL? Is it possible? I personally don’t mind having Pierre as the Lead-OF-Man. Is it me, but more runs get scored in against us when the balls are hit towards Pierre.

Gonna be hard to take JP out of the line-up when Manny gets back even if Furcal’s still at short. Let’s say over the next 100 ABs he only hits .250 and draws a handful of walks. He’ll still be hitting about .320 and OBPing about .400+. True enough the last 3-4 games he’s shown signs of turning back into a slappy pumpkin, but he’s earned his playing time. Give the devil his due, he’s making it impossible to NOT play him.

  76. enchantedbeaver

Granted msrussy. I don’t see him getting traded though. We’re too thin in the OF. Look at all that’s happened – we’re already down to Hoffmann – Manny suspended. Ethier bad toe, Paul on the DL, Repko injured. That only leaves us with three healthy OFers – Pierre, Kemp, and Hoffman. Plus JPs still got that nasty contract (and he’s manager’s pet.)

  77. thinkingblue

Enchanted can he (JP) play a different position? Let’s not get rid of him but too me it seems that he might be able to play Furcal’s position. Then again Manny might not come back with the big bang he did earlier so Manny & JP can be alternating games?

  78. thinkingblue

What I’m trying to say is that if he is able to play Furcal’s position since Furcal is more likely to get injured. Then we can have our 3 big players KEMP, MANNY, & ETHIER on Outfield. Have PIERRE be the LEAD MAN. Now if one of them (OF) get hurt have Pierre go back and Furcal play back in his position. Or just give our OF men have atleast 1 game off a week and have Pierre play for them. Rotate the Outfield.

  79. enchantedbeaver

Have to agree with eric russy. You also need a strong arm for shortstop, and let’s just say that JPs is aaaaaa, less than adequate. Throw in the fact that he doesn’t know the position, would have to learn how to turn a DP, and would probably get killed drifting back into the outfield. JP’s as much a one-trick pony in the field as he is with the bat.

  80. knouffbrock@frontiernet.net

tru-a 10 run lead was enough yesterday. Probably need one again today.
Kuroda returning is going to help, but I think Colletti will eventually have to go outside the organization for help in the bull pen. It would be great if Mac were to return to last seasons form, but you can’t count on that. Maybe Mota will start getting better location on his pitches, but you can’t count on that either. The position players, all of them, have shown themselves to be reliable, and it would be a shame to come up short at the end with a sub-par bull pen. Got a long way to go, so Colletti can wait, but I think we’ll eventually see some new faces down there around the trade deadline.

  81. thinkingblue

Well than JP can go back to being a bench warmer. I tried to keep him in – in my line up, but que sera que sera. THANKS ENCHANTED!

  82. nellyjune

Then, once again, I rather he be traded then him and his fans have to watch see him suffer through this issue for a 3rd year in a row now. He is too good to be sitting the bench for any of the outfielders on this team, slumps and all. The scary thing is the gnats need a bat and an outfielder who can catch the ball. Pierre may not be able to throw, but the gnats have outfielders who can’t catch the ball. That would be the only drawback to him getting traded is knowing my luck he would end up there somehow.

  83. thinkingblue

NELLY it sucks to see any Dodger go play for the Giants. I’m sure JP would rather be traded than sitting. JP speed makes him a good player, but his arm sucks. But I rather see him go than Ethier. LOVE MY ETHIER!

  84. messagebear@msn.com

We’ve been around the horn before on the question of whether Pierre can play in the infield. Since he’s a left-handed thrower, none of the infield positions except for first base would suit him, because it’s just too awkward to field second, short, or third and turn around to throw left-handed. I’m not sure if there’s ever been a left-handed infielder in the majors other than first-basemen.

  85. thinkingblue

Well it seems that we will be facing the same problem we did last year when Manny came to the Dodgers, who seats JP or Ethier.

  86. enchantedbeaver

I don’t see any of our OFers getting traded Nells – the organization as a whole is very thin there. Not thinking just this year either. Don’t think you can count 100% on Manny testing clean next year (because its a certainty he’ll exercise his player option.) Paul’s probably capable enough, but Hoffmann I don’t really see as making much of a splash in the bigs. Repko’s injury prone and I won’t be surprised if he’d non-tendered after this season. Lambo’s struggling a bit in AA and is probably two full years away minimum.
    .
Then you have the JP pumpkin factor. At some point the clock will strike 12:00 and he’ll turn back into one.

I just can’t get too upset if he plays over Dre right now because he’s got the extremely hot bat going and it would give Dre a chance to totally heal his toe.

  87. nellyjune

I am just tired of this same issue every season, and this was the one season that I thought it might change, but it’s not. …………..and to be honest, this is Manny’s fault. If he would have stayed clear of THESE substances, then JP would still be sitting the bench. However, we can’t go back. We can only go forward, and only time will tell how this will all play out in July once Manny returns.

  88. enchantedbeaver

The club is entitled to a 10-day minor league rehab for Manny when the suspension is over to get him back into game condition. I can see them using at least 3-4 games worth of it to get his timing back. That’s still a month and a half away and as we’ve seen, anything can happen. Dre isn’t going to sit for Hoffmann during that time, nor Paul when he gets back unless his toe is too bad for him to play on, in which case that should mean the DL. That’s about 175-180 ABs for Dre to heat up and JP to cool down, both of which are likely to happen.

  89. nellyjune

enchanted ~ I am not saying he will be traded. I am saying I rather he be traded then to see this same scenario play out for a third season in a row, and unless an injury happens again, then it will happen. I do understand what you are saying, and it’s hard to be mad when the team is winning, regardless of who is playing, kind of 🙂

  90. enchantedbeaver

Just like no one could expect Manny to keep his pace from last year, there’s no way JP can keep his up unless Rod Carew has taken possession of his body. I mean the guy’s got a .458 OBP (vs. .349 career.) Hell he’s SLUGGING .510 (vs. .373 lifetime.) By the time Manny gets back I expect JP to be down around a .320 avg. I expect Dre to be back up around .290. And I think even JoJo can see that Dre and Manny have something special when they bat consecutively in the order.

  91. thinkingblue

OK for the 3rd time I write this (MLB is acting weird on me). I just want for ETHIER to gain his confidence back before MANNY gets back. I want him out of his slump and back to hitting HomeRuns before Manny gets back. LET’S GOOOOOO ETHIER! ETHIER! ETHIER!

  92. cpompe1

Good afternoon ITD boys and girls!
I hope that everyone had a great weekend! Of course, this weekend belongs to the brave men and women in our armed forces! God Bless You All!!! Well, guess where I was this weekend? Denver! My husband’s nephew graduated HS this weekend (yes, it was indoors). So we booked the flight to and from LAX; we were planning to return on Monday, the 25th. Well, it wasn’t until after we booked the flight back to LAX that we realized that the Dodgers were playing the Rockies in a day game on the 25th.

Well, we figured that we could be able to go to the game, and we did, but unlike what we normally do (remember this convo, about never leaving a game early?) well, we HAD to leave the game early, or else we wouldn’t have made the flight. As it was, it was very, very close. We left the stadium in the bottom of the 5th inning (when Weaver started to give up our 7 run lead), and by the time that we dropped off our rental car, the score was 7 – 6. I did not hear anything about the game until we got back to LA. I called my mom and asked her who won the game? Then my mom told me that that was all the scoring the Rockies did and that we ended up winning 16 – 6!!!

So, how are my ITD friends this fine day???

  93. thinkingblue

    Hey CPO,
I’m glad to hear that an ITD was representing the Dodgers at Colorado and that you didn’t miss the flight. I can not believe the score to that game. 16….wow…16 is a great number…ETHIER! GO ETHIER! ETHIER! ETHIER! Just showing my support so that ETHIER gets out of his slump!
    ETHIER! GO ETHIER! ETHIER! ETHIER!

  94. cpompe1

Hey msrussyethier!!! Yeah, and where my husband and I were sitting, there were A LOT of foul balls, close to us!!! No, we didn’t catch anything, but there was one that was straight, in line with us, but it went behind us a few rows. Then there was one that was three rows in front of us, on the other side of our aisle. Then there were 2 that went over our head, and into the next level up. Then there were about 3 or 4 or 5 that were close to our section, but in the first few rows. I’d like to say that on the shot from the 3B line, where you see the pitcher and the runner at 1B, we were straight in line from that shot. Actually our brother-in-law (who’s son graduated this weekend) called and said that he thought he saw us (during the numerous foul balls all around us). Yes, there were a few of them that we stood up for, so we very well might have been in the camera shot!

So, everyone tell me. I know Andre is hurt, but how badly is he hurt? I know he had something wrong with his toenail. If he’s hurt, I don’t want him playing and making it worse. I would love nothing more than to see him in the field, but if he’s hurt, he’s hurt, and I don’t want him playing and making it worse. I know he was in a slump before, but I did see that he was 2 for 2, but then I heard he came out later that game. I just want him healthy for later in the season.

  95. thinkingblue

CPO he was coming out of the SLUMP! He is hurt, not that seriously. But he does need a few days to get better. I hope this is his turning point. Comes back STRONG!
    ETHIER! GO ETHIER! ETHIER! ETHIER!

  96. thinkingblue

Wow CPO you were in the dangerous zone, need a helmet & glove to survive…LOL!
    GO ETHIER! ETHIER! ETHIER!

  97. cpompe1

Hey msrussyethier!!! Now that you explain it, I am hoping that Andre gets back into the game soon and permanently gets rid of that slump. I’m with you: GO ETHIER! ETHIER! ETHIER!

I didn’t have a glove (wouldn’t fit in the suitcase), and no helmet, but I did have a cap on. Someone (in and around where we were sitting) caught his foul ball with his cap!!! He did a great job!!! So, when balls were flying all around us, I was getting up and taking my cap off, just in case!!!

  98. boblee4014

Well, we need to take the next 2 from the Rox and 3 of 4 from the Cubbies and we will be in a great position.

  99. cpompe1

Hey boblee!!! Long time, no talk!!! We can definitely take the next 2 from the Rox. Taking 3 of 4 from the Cubbies would be good, but I think the way the Cubbies are playing now, we could sweep them too!!!

  100. kpookiemon

Cubs have lost 8 in a row and the Dodgers go in there Thursday. Not really sure I want them to have lost 10 in a row before the Blue arrives……. As for Pierre being “unmovable” when Manny returns…the Dodgers have 33 games left before that little passion play takes root. Here’s guessing Pierre has cooled WAY off by then. Look what happened to Ethier in just 2 weeks. Still, if Pierre IS hitting .400, hey, bait the hook while the fish are biting. Pierre will NEVER get this hot again. Starting pitching for a .400-hitting MVP outfielder, anyone????

  101. cpompe1

Oh, but I forgot to ask. What happened to the X-Man??? How did he get on the DL??? Oh, and btw, I saw Hoffmann yesterday. Wow, he does have a powerful swing!

  102. thinkingblue

We need San Diego to get in a loosing streak. 10 wins….wow!
    *
KAHLI – I’m sure Pierre will have cooled down by then. Usually when one cools down others get hot!
    *
CPO – caps are great to catch balls with!
    *
BOBLEE – A Cubbies sweep sounds Sweet!
    *
    GO ETHIER

  103. cpompe1

Kahli, I’m with ya. I think that the best thing is to ride JP’s hot streak for as long as it goes (hopefully, until Manny returns) and then he would be great as trade bait! I’m still not convinced about our BP. But our starters do need to go deeper into games than they have been on a much more consistent basis…

  104. crzblue2

    CP!
Welcome back! How did you like Coor’s field? I love the “player” statue that is a tribute to Branch Rickey. Hey, my friend Lore and I leave to Chicago tomorrow morning! We’ll catch 3 of the 4 games series there.
    Emma
    http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/

  105. cpompe1

Yes msrussyethier. Hoffmann is a good-looking young player. And to see his picture, he looks REALLLY young! But he’s still not as young as Kersh is. Hoffmann is an “old man” at the ripe old age of 24!!!

  106. cpompe1

Hey Emma!!! Coors Field is fine. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see much of the surroundings. I mean, we got there early, early enough to go thru the batting practice gate, but there was no BP as it was pouring rain. And of course, we didn’t get to see much after we left; we didn’t have much time to turn in our car and make our flight. As it was, once we got to our gate, we sat down for all of 2 or 3 minutes, and then our seating group boarded the plane.

Have a great time in Chicago!!! What games are you seeing? Where are you sitting? My brother-in-law lives about an hour outside of Chicago. We went to visit them a few years ago. We drove past Wrigley Field, but didn’t get to see a game in there. I would LOVE to do that some day!!! I would love it if the Dodgers were playing them, but even if they weren’t, I’d still love to see a game there!

  107. boblee4014

Hey cpo, just hope the Cubs don’t get hot. They may be out for blood as we swept them in the play-offs.

  108. cpompe1

Yeah boblee, they may be out for blood this weekend! I just hope our pitching doesn’t keep the Cubbies in the game. They haven’t been hitting much, but the Cubbies definitely have the makeup to get hot in a hurry; especially if our pitching doesn’t do well.

  109. boblee4014

Chicago is a great place to watch baseball. small ballpark but great location and great fans. My son used to live in chicago and went there to watch some games. Could always get tickets.

  110. cpompe1

So what happened to Xavier Paul??? And I just noticed that Raffy was slated to start yesterday, but he didn’t. What’s going on with him???

  111. crzblue2

    CP,
We will see the Thursday thru Saturday games. The Sunday game is the ESPN game so is starts late. Our flight leaves at 6:pm. We are sitting between home and 1st for one game and between 1st and RF for another. One set includes parking but we don’t need it. My friend is workin gon the Saturday’s tickets.
    .
boblee, I know what you meant, those guys will be out for blood. Should l I wear my Dodgers Cubs playoff shirt? 🙂
    Emma
    http://crzblue.mlblogs.com/

  112. enchantedbeaver

CP – Paul’s got some sort of skin infection on his left leg from sliding on the turf (I think in Philly.)

  113. cpompe1

And Emma, normally I’d say yes, wear that t-shirt of yours, but I don’t know how safe you’d be in Wrigley… Or else, you can play it safe and just wear a Dodgers’ jersey…

  114. cpompe1

That sounds nice enchanted!!! When we were in Denver this weekend, it was soggy all weekend. Actually, yesterday’s game that we went to, we thought it was going to be rained out, but it was just delay. So tell me, Raffy was slated to start at SS yesterday, but he didn’t. What’s going on with him???
