Back home again…

Very good to be back in Los Angeles…hoping you’ll all make it out here at some point this homestand, as lots of cool stuff is coming up.

Over at Psychollingy, Eric weighs in following the road trip and we’ll hear more from him and Steve this week during the homestand.

And time is running out to nominate the All-Stars in your community (or yourself) for a chance to go to St. Louis for the All-Star Game and be featured in People magazine. I’m not sure if you’re the People-reading crowd, but perhaps some of you are choosing between a subscription to that mag or to Dodgers Mag

Here’s tonight’s lineup: (UPDATE: LINEUP CHANGE)

Pierre, LF

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Ethier, RF

Martin, C

Loney, 1B

Kemp, CF

Castro, 3B

Wolf, P

Torre’s pregame with media:

On Stults: he’s 50/50 to make his next start. It’s stiff. He will throw his bullpen today and we’ll see. Weaver would go in his place.

On Pierre: We all feel good for him. The work he puts in speaks volumes about the individual he is. He’s really made the top of our lineup productive. Chances are when July rolls around he’ll go back to playing off the bench.

On Casey Blake: The last at-bat on Saturday, he felt something in his hammy. We feel he could benefit with 2 days off. He was running earlier. He would be available if we needed him.

I like Castro over at third so that we can use Loretta off the bench.

On Kuroda’s sim game: It was fine. If he comes out ok tomorrow and his next time, we can think about a rehab at the end of the week. He didn’t feel a thing. I still think he’ll need 2 rehab starts at a minimum.

Schmidt will have to take as much rehab time as they’ll allow us.

On Mota: His stuff has been good. He needs to be more consistent with command and breaking ball. I’m not concerned.

Okay, I got new threaded!!! Repost from before:

Good afternoon ITD boys and girls!
YEAH!!! GREAT ROAD TRIP BOYS!!! Okay, I got that out of my system. But all kidding aside, everyone on the team has been doing great; and I do mean everyone. Yes, many of us on here don’t really care for JP, but give credit where credit is due. JP is doing extremely well; better than any of us would’ve thought.

Eric/Juanpy – First of all, that “screenplay” is phenomenal!!! My side was in stitches; I couldn’t help laughing so hard!!! Then I left after reading for a bit, and then came back. Only to see that you came on later with a “new” name – ericjuanpy!!! You are too funny my man!!! BTW, does Matt share your same sense of humor??? If so, he’s gotta be keeping Mariya in stitches too!!!

Oh, and what can I say about our Kersh’s performance yesterday? I didn’t get to see the whole game, but I did see it from the 6th inning forward!!! So I did get to see some of your magic. It was like you were like a magician and kept those hitters in a trance!!!

    GO DODGERS!!!
    GO WOLFY!!!

  2. selltheteam

Time to bring up DeWitt and DFA Mota. DeWitt can split his time between ss and 3b and get in 3-4 games per week. He’s currently hitting .306 at Albuquerque.

  3. oldbrooklynfan

    Hi Everyone
Well, the Dodgers are playing my home town Mets, once again.
This is my daughter’s team and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every Sunday we have our report on the Mets and I usually throw in a word or two on how the Dodgers are doing.
Lately she knows pretty well how they’re doing. She checks out the standings.
IMO the Mets are one of the best teams in the N.L. and so are we.
    GO DODGERS***********************************

  4. shad80

What a weird stats the last 4 games Wolf has started he’s given up 3 runs and all of them been for homeruns 23 1/3 innings and also this is one team that Wolf has dominated them with his time with Philly with a 11-5 record, ERA 3.34, Whip 1.29and .244 baa and is that a ex player playing SS for the Mets and yes it is.

  5. oldbrooklynfan

I really wish I could listen to Scully call this game but I have to settle for Gary Cohen & Ron Darling on SNY.

  6. oldbrooklynfan

Gary Cohen was wondering why the Dodgers have a tarp, since it never rains at Dodger Stadium.
But it did a few times.

  7. shad80

Sigh don’t like that 2nd innings only 11 pitches but 10 pitchers against Castro and Wolf alone and damn Pierre 1st pitches grounded.

  8. boblee4014

What is Ethier’s problem? Standing and taking two good pitches and then check swing for a third strike,

  9. shad80

We need to bring up Dewitt or else bump Furcal down to #8. I would never had thought to see Martin heating up and Ethier still going cold.

  10. colliethec

I have a fellow lover of all things juan. I’m a juanaholic and proud to call myself that. It’s nice to see my fellow p-aholic here.

  11. oldbrooklynfan

ETHIER’s not letting his slump interfere with his fielding, that was a fantastic catch.

  12. colliethec

I need to go to the restroom but I don’t want to miss juan at bat by the stud. You never know what he’s going to do. It makes me sit on the edge of my seat with anticipation and excitement.

  13. enchantedbeaver

I have no comeback for that stud – its wrong on so many levels – except that its JUAN!!!

  14. boblee4014

I sure don’t know how we are winning this game. Evertball we have hit has been right at someone and we have had to make great plays on dinkers hit by the mets and they have got all the calls and breaks tonight.
    .
Get Wolf out of there now.

  15. elbarto83

Prior to today’s game, Cory Wade has pitched in 11 games, and has recorded 2 losses, 3 blown saves, and only 5 holds. He’s allowed 6 runs in 11.2 innings.

Let’s not continue to use him in setup situations?

  16. shad80

I was swear that was going to bring in Blake in a double switch but it look like if we go into extra innings Broxton would pitch 1 inning.

  17. oldbrooklynfan

I don’t know how that ump missed that call at first base on Church, what a pick off by Martin.
    Nice going BROXTON.
Let’s get this Sean Green, having a bad year.

  18. colliethec

Hopefully this Andre guy will do something to make all those Ethier fans happy. He did have a nice catch tonight.

  19. selltheteam

No such luck. Now we test Joe’s four man bench in extra innings. Oh yeah, he only has Blake (hammy) and Ausmus (the last catcher remaining), so he has nobody.

  20. colliethec

Oh well. I guess we’ll just have to wait a few innings to get juan back up there so he can carry us to another victory!

  21. nellyjune

I notice nobody is mentioning the fact that Matt is 0-4 and Russell is 0-3 as well, or is this just pick on Andre night.

  22. bluecrewgirl

You took the words right out of my mouth, Nelly. I noticed the same thing on Dodger Thoughts. How quickly they turn on one of the main reasons we are in first place so far this season. Raffy’s been a slump a lot longer, Russell was in a slump for the first month of the season and Matt and James have had their major dry spells too, but nothing much is made of it. I am going to the game tomorrow night, so he’d better be in the lineup or I will be pissed.

  23. colliethec

Don’t worry. Were pulling for Ethier. Nor are we picking on him. We just looooovvveeeee our hard working left fielder. He is juan hellluva player!

  24. nellyjune

….but why can’t he be in a slump just like everyone else. All is slumps have to be tied to something other than himself. For three years he has been the only one on the team that anytime he goes into a slump it’s some other reason than just being in a slump. Why can’t he work himself out of it just like everyone else does? He was hitting behind Manny. There is no protection from him there. This slump has nothing to do with that!!!!

  25. bluecrewgirl

I agree Nelly, it does seem like he’s not allowed to ever be in a slump for more than a few games. I do think he needs to grow the beard back for now like we discussed the other day, lol. Someone on Dodger Thoughts mentioned that tonight. He was raking when he had the beard and sometimes it just takes changing up something small and really unimportant to clear the mental frustration away.

  26. selltheteam

jhall- Good to see you. A voice of reason! Hopefully Troncoso can go a few innings. Pull up a blanket, it may be a long night.

  27. nellyjune

Well, well, well, if it isn’t Mr. Juanpyeric himself. Boy, are you on my list today mister – LOL!!!!!!!! I can’t even write it with a straight face and mean it!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  28. selltheteam

jhall – don’t worry about seeing Mota tonight. Hopefully Joe learned yesterday that he needs at least a twelve run lead before he can bring in Mota. Or a twelve run deficit.

  29. dodgereric

crash, did you read up top that Torre isn’t worried about Mota? Hopefully that means that it’ll be a cold day in hell before he gets the ball again, but I wouldn’t count on it.

  30. nellyjune

Oh CP!!!! If you are out there somewhere. To answer your question about dodgereric and Matt, yes…………..like father, like son……………both hilarious in their own right 🙂

  31. selltheteam

Hey – Now that most of the Cleaver family is here, I’m getting awfully suspicious about the Beaver’s absence. Or is he?

  32. jhallwally

    I am catching a little Beaver scent crash…… 🙂

By dodgereric on May 18, 2009 10:37 PM

That, or one of the Phew fanatics f*rted!!!!

  33. bluecrewgirl

Beltran should not have gotten an error. That was a routine fly ball and the center fielder totally got in his way when he was calling for it. Good for us though.

  34. selltheteam

Scully: “If you’re old enough to remember the 1962 Mets, this will revive your memory”.
    .
    Classic Vin!

  35. nellyjune

You know dodgereric/Ward Dear…………………..you as JP just isn’t doing it for me. As much as I have tried to see it that way it’s not helping AT…… ALL!!!!!!!!

  36. dodgereric

Seriously, the way the Mets have been fielding today, what would have been bad with Ferc laying one down there?

  37. perumike

It’s confirmed, the Bad News Mets were on the field tonight. The real Mets are tied up in a closet somewhere!

  38. sparkleplenty_1

Well, thanks Mets, for giving this game away. At least the Dodgers finally accepted the gift!

  39. dodgereric

I think I better call my mother to make sure she’s ok. She told me just last night that games like this are killing her.

    Five errors.

  40. bluecrewgirl

OMG, what a joke! That is some of the worst fielding I’ve ever seen. Oh well, a victory’s a victory.

  41. bluecrewgirl

I guess I had it backward, it was Pagan that had called for that ball the Paul hit, so if that’s the case, Beltran did deserve the error.

  42. enchantedbeaver

    Hey everybody!!! We’ll take it.

You people were sure awful nice to pierreaholic and juanisastud tonight. Why back in the old days we weould’ve run them out of town on a rail.

  43. colliethec

Well nice game everybody! Don’t worry we love all of our dodgers. I just happen to really enjoy watching that little guy run all over the place. He’s the best!

  44. nellyjune

I just chose not to engage enchanted. How are you tonight sir? I guess we shouldn’t be surprised by the way we win games these days. Tonight’s was no different……………………….5 errors on the part of the Mets and one costing them the game for good.

  45. selltheteam

Meanwhile, we have another game tomorrow with Billz on the hill. Hopefully, he’ll get more than two runs of support. Don’t count on the 1962 Mets showing up again tomorrow night.

  46. jhallwally

Beav, in a month when Phew reverts back to his old self, we will be all over it. I’m happy he is picking up the slack and playing well and I hope it continues. I’m not holding my breathe however. Keep it going Phew, help us win while Manny is gone and increase your trade value.

  47. enchantedbeaver

Yes, this is definitely the kinder gentler ITD BCG.

I’m going to have to do something about that…

  48. jhallwally

Kind’a makes you want to puke, huh, Beav!!!!!! I’d love to see this new bunch deal with the vulgar, murderous moons. LMAO!!!!!

  49. perumike

Well all, got work to do tomorrow, then vote, then school, then a church event, so I guess I should get some sleep! Take care, sweet Dodger dreams to all!!!

  50. colliethec

Juan drinks Dos Equis because he is the most interesting man in the world… Stay thirsty my friends.

  51. bluecrewgirl

That’s funny you should say that, jhall. Steve and Patrick were just reading the viewer question on Dodgers Live and the question was if they would consider trading Pierre for pitching (I would think they meant after Manny returns) and they said he has certainly increased his trade value and it would be more of a possibility than it had been earlier in the season.

  52. nellyjune

Good Night PianoMan – thanks for the pep talk earlier in the day. Have a great tomorrow and hopefully we will see you sometime tomorrow. Take Care and God Bless 🙂

  53. jhallwally

Thanks BleuFille’, that is funny. If I were Ned, I’d be shopping him big time right now. His current play won’t last. Get out while the getting is good!!! JMO!!!!!

  54. bluecrewgirl

They did mention that as well, dodgereric, but said maybe the Dodgers wouldn’t have to eat as much of it as they would have previously. Goodnight perumike. I like my
    Kool-Aid cherry flavored, lol.

  55. enchantedbeaver

I’m not sure we have another capable OF in the minors – didn’t someone say Repko srewed up his hammy again?

  56. bluecrewgirl

Enchanted, they said that Paul would be the 4th outfielder if it did come to pass. I guess we’ll see.

  57. dodgereric

I’m really not a negative-kind-a-guy bluecrewGIRL, but I’m actually seeing more hurdles than before. Torre still has a serious man-crush on him and now he’s producing (and even taking pitches – his OBP is greater than his BA now!) and Furcal isn’t producing at the leadoff position. As long as all these things are true, Andre had better work his way out of his slump or our outfield defense is going to SUCK when Manny gets back.

  58. jhallwally

Thanks Nelly, just stating what you and many other bloggers here have been saying in so many words for the past 2 years!!!!

  59. bluecrewgirl

Dodgereric, I agree about the man crush, but I was actually surprised to see Torre quoted as saying that Pierre would probably go back to the bench when Manny returns in an article I read this morning. I agree that Andre needs to work his way out of though, because I’m not counting on Joe’s words to ring true a month from now.

  60. enchantedbeaver

I don’t see you as being negative eric. You’re like me – you have to call ’em as you see ’em. I just don’t see everything as cupcakes and sunshine. Others do, and that works for them, but not for me.

  61. sparkleplenty_1

Hi everyone. Just an FYI – the ODog is going to be on Jim Rome this week. He didn’t say when, though . . . .

  62. jhallwally

Ahhh c’mon guys, if we really called’em like we see them, we would’ve gotten kicked out of here last year!!!!

  63. dodgereric

Torre actually said that? That’s encouraging. But he’s also changed direction more often than Michael Phelps in a 10,000 meter marathon.

enchanted, sometimes you just gotta face the facts, don’tcha? BTW, we drove through Oakhurst on the way home from Junie’s – what a nice town! It seems like a nice place to retire to.

  64. jhallwally

See’ya Beav!!! It’s been fun. Catch you down the road. I better head for the old rack myself. Goodnight. Hope you all have a great tomorrow.
    Excelsior True Blue Believers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  65. nellyjune

Bluecrew – I saw the things Torre had to say about JP going back to being the 4th man when Manny returns, and I see it the way you do. I will believe when I see it in July when Manny returns.

  66. bluecrewgirl

Me too, Nelly, but am hoping for the best. They just showed Andre’s Before the Bigs again and he always has seemed to bounce back even stronger after a tough time, so I have faith he’ll do the same now. As the saying goes, that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

  67. dodgereric

A coincidence occurred to me today.

    May 5, 2008 – Furcal’s last game
    May 6, 2009 – Manny’s last game
    May 7, 2010 – hold your breath

  68. nellyjune

Boy that’s a long time to hold our breath, don’t ya think?… but a very intriguing coincidence. So, does this mean JP in the lead off spot once again in May of 2010….hmmmmmm!!!!!

  69. nellyjune

Boy that’s a long time to hold our breath, don’t ya think?… but a very intriguing coincidence. So, does this mean JP in the lead off spot once again in May of 2010….hmmmmmm!!!!!

  70. nellyjune

Boy that’s a long time to hold our breath, don’t ya think?… but a very intriguing coincidence. So, does this mean JP in the lead off spot once again in May of 2010….hmmmmmm!!!!!

  71. nellyjune

That is true bluecrewgirl, and he always does come out stronger in the end.

dodgereric – very intriguing…………so does that mean we get to look forward to JP in left field and the lead off spot in May of 2010 as well……………………..most likely, yes 🙂

  72. nellyjune

I have no clue of what just happened. All I know is my first post got lost, but obviously it found it’s way here in double fashion I see.

  73. nellyjune

Good Night Bluecrewgirl!!!!! To be fair and equal to all the players who had 0 fers tonight, hopefully Andre, Russell and Matt have better games tomorrow.

  74. dodgereric

Bring ’em good luck, bluecrewGIRL! And goodnight!

I need to go as well, Junie. I lost a long post in cyberspace and I’m too tired to try and recreate it.

May God Bless you and yours Junie, tonight, tomorrow and always. And also to anyone else out there in Dodgerblogland!

It was great to win tonight, regardless of the manner. Let’s win one clean tomorrow!

    Go Dodgers!!!!!

  75. nellyjune

Good Night Dodgereric/Ward Dear…………………….As always take care and God Bless to you and yours as well 🙂

  76. shad80

I wanted to say congratulation to Thome on getting homerun #548 tying him with Mike Schmidt for 13th on the all time list. This is always a good milestone from players to get.

  77. enchantedbeaver

None of the boys are swinging the bats too well right now. I’m hoping last night was just a little jet lag, but I think it’d be worth a try moving the order around a little:

    Pierre
    Dre
    Hudson
    Blake
    Loney
    Kemp
    Marty
    Ferk
    Pitcher

  78. nellyjune

Good Morning enchanted!!! I am all for a lineup change if it’s going to get the young guns (Martin, Kemp, Ethier) going again.

  79. thinkingblue

    Good Morning ITD:
    I LOVE L.A…..WE LOVE IT!
    Dodgers are still HOT!
    *
I am glad to see our team working as a TEAM! HUDSON O’ dog & Pierre good job boys. Our pitchers are actually doing well (but still need improvements). I am not going to give PIERRE the credit, cause to me it is not all him. He has his ups and downs just like all the other players. But yeah my favorite boys ETHIER & MARTIN (SNAAAAAAPPPP OUT OF IT! – LOVE THEM BUT C’MON). Oh yeah IT WAS AN OUT, 9th inning when MARTIN threw the ball to LONEY, that guy was out, LONEY tagged them. So for that ump, he owes us one.LOL!
    *
Tomorrow I’ll be at the game and I just hope that they win today and sweep tomorrow!
    *
    LET’S GO DODGERS!

  80. arayd

Juan down two to go for the sweep!

How about the bench? I gotta give Colletti credit, our bench last year was horrid, but this year it is lights out. Ausmus and Lorretta are huge and great clubhouse leaders, great production and presence.

It’s good Colletti hung onto to “noodle arm” as well, he’s really overfilled the void since Manny’s suspension, he won’t keep up this torrid pace, but he’ll stay around .290 – .300 ba w/ .330 to .340 on base, which are very serviceable #’s, esp. w/ his speed and ability to outrun dp’s and keep an inning alive. Paul’s a good prospect, but I’d rather keep Juan in there then trying a rookie out and have him struggle w/ the Giants creeping up.

But shame on Colletti for most of our pitching staff, it’s like a tightrope walk ALL the time. Brox, Wolf and Billz have been the only solid consistent pitchers. If he doesn’t shore up this staff soon, we’re gonna fall off that tightrope, and YES trade pierre but for a GOOD pitcher or prospect or GREAT bullpen/set-up guy, no Hendrickson’s, Tomko’s, Jae Tso, Esteban Loaiza debacles again please.

  81. arayd

good thing fielding is a part of the game, the Mets really IMPLODED last night, my house almost got sucked in by that blackhole, EPIC FAILURE.

  82. colliethec

That was a juantastic game last night. This team was up by 6 1/2 games when they lost Manny. They are still up by 6 1/2 games with The Stud replacing him. I guess that makes Juan = Manny. Hopefully when Manny comes back he will still produce so we can trade him for some pitching & keep the man that has kept this team rolling. Our saviour & only hope juankenobi.

  83. selltheteam

With a tremendous team effort resulting in a 6-5 record including a 4-2 road trip, the boys in blue can now almost say “Manny Who?” and just go about their business for the next 39 games.

  84. dodgereric

    Sorry, I can’t resist……

Another way of looking at it is that the Dodgers with Manny built a 6 1/2 game lead. The Dodgers with Pierre has merely maintained it.

Therefore the Dodgers with Manny = best team in baseball
    Dodgers with Pierre = Giants

  85. thinkingblue

But I admit JUAN PIERRE is playing great right now! But I wouldn’t go as far as saying Juan = Manny. Juan can’t do Home Runs & Manny can’t still bases like Juan. With a little bit of everyones talent Dodgers will win earn the RING this year….GO DODGERS!

  86. dodgereric

The Dodgers are 27 – 13 (.675), the best record in baseball to date

    Mota is 2 – 1 (.667)

Therefore Mota is right on par with the best in baseball.

    dodgereric = motaholic

  87. enchantedbeaver

Torre thinks Mota has good stuff. Torre thought Proctor had good stuff.

    My conclusion? Torre’s stupid.

    Thank you.

  88. thinkingblue

Well Torre gambled with Proctor & thought Mota would smoked them out!
    *
Sorry tooo much coffee on my system!

  89. dodgereric

    “Torre’s pregame with media:
On Mota: His stuff has been good. He needs to be more consistent with command and breaking ball. I’m not concerned.”

Torrespeak: “His stuff has been good.”
Reality: “The hitters seem to love it.”

Torrespeak: “He needs to be more consistent with command and breaking ball.”
Reality: “He is already consistent. Everything is down the middle.”

    Torrespeak: “I’m not concerned.”
    Reality: “I’m not rational.”

  90. dodgereric

I think crash just got a look at yesterday’s boxscore and saw Pierre with 2 intentional walks. He’s not trusting his vision! LOL!
