On the Road

A team winning its first 13 games at home will bring inevitable comparisons to its success on the road. And keeping the 13-0 start at Dodger Stadium in perspective is easy when considering the 1911 Detroit Tigers won their first 12 home games en route to a second-place finish in the American League, 13 ½ games behind the Philadelphia Athletics.

So what does a road record mean for a team hoping to make the playoffs? In the case of the Dodgers, Los Angeles has posted four consecutive losing records on the road, but two of those seasons resulted in trips to the playoffs.

Here are the Dodger road records during the past 10 seasons: 2008 (36-45), 2007 (39-42), 2006 (39-42), 2005 (31-50), 2004 (44-37), 2003 (39-42), 2002 (46-35), 2001 (42-39), 2000 (42-39), 1999 (40-41).

Now check out the regular-season road records for the past 10 World Series winning teams: 2008 Phillies (44-37), 2007 Red Sox (45-36), 2006 Cardinals (34-47), 2005 White Sox (52-29), 2004 Red Sox (43-38), 2003 Marlins (38-43), 2002 Angels (45-36), 2001 Diamondbacks (44-37), 2000 Yankees (43-38), 1999 Yankees (50-31).

Speaking of being on the road, “On the Road” author Jack Kerouac, a favorite of mine, apparently was a fantasy baseball player. Sort of. Check out this story in today’s NY Times. Makes me even more proud of the Kerouac bobblehead that sits on my desk back at Dodger Stadium.

Here’s tonight’s lineup:

Pierre, LF

Furcal, SS

Hudson, 2B

Ethier, RF

Martin, C

Loney, 1B

Kemp, CF

Blake, 3B

I am very pleased with this current road trip. We are doing a fine job of getting things done in order to win ball games. Keepm up the good work, Dodgers. Another victory today would be so sweet!!!!

So I’m second!!!
Hey Tru, long time no talk!!! Yeah, the team has performed well on this road trip. We win tonight, and we’re assured of winning another series!!! That’s what I look for; not necessarily winning every game; no one can do that. But if the Dodgers win the majority of their series throughout the season, no one’s going to stop us!!!

I just hope and pray that Eric Milton is up to this and that the Eric Milton that we saw in ST stays away!!!

It woud be nice to score lots of runs so we don’t have to worry so much about Milton.

Yes it is Tru! And this team is now starting to get into their collective hitting stride!

I don’t know how Milton will do. Looking at what he has been through following his operation, you have to admire his persistence and certainly wish him well in the Dodger Blue. I’m not expecting a great deal, and he’s probably worth giving a chance. If he’s able to go at least five, preferably six innings, and not yield more than three runs, I’ll consider it a good start in his circumstances. That would be a real plus for the team, since that’s pretty much what we get from Stults and lucky to get from Kershaw. Hopefully he has decent control and can keep out of trouble in that respect.

I expect out team should be able to ring up another five runs or better. Have a great day, fellow ITD’ers!

Hey messagebear! Yeah, if Milton can get thru the 5th or 6th inning, that would be great.

GO DODGERS!!!
GO MILTON!!!

Well, I’ve got stuff to do around the house. I’ll catch up with y’all later…

Good Afternoon ITD readers and writers!!!!! I just wanted to stop in and say…………..

GO DODGER BLUE ~ WE LOVE YOU!!!!! You have already made us proud on this road trip. You have hung together as a team and are having a great road trip so far. Two more games, and you are headed home. Best of luck to Milton as he takes the mound today. We wish you the best, along with the rest of this beloved Dodger team.

LET’S GO DODGERS, LET’S GO…… JUAN, RAFAEL, ORLANDO, ANDRE, RUSSELL, JAMES, MATT, CASEY AND ERIC, ………LET’S GO!!!!!!
~DODGER BLUE THRU AND THRU~
****ETHIERAHOLIC FOREVER*****

Way to go Mets……you take care of the Giants! Just get it all out of your system before you come to the Ravine!!!!

lol did that really happen to Lackey? I woke up and they said after 2 pitches got tossed. Lackey was just activated from the DL and btw Go Mets.

Hi ITD guys & Girls
Joe Pierre here interrupting things from time to time (lol)
I’ll be listening for about 55 minutes then I’m suppose to join MLB.TV at 7:05PM EDT.
Hope they keep up the good work.
Giants, I hear are losing to my home town Mets.

Well, game starts now, however KCAL is starting the game at 4pm. Darn tape delay!!!

HUDSON knocks in Pierre, who’s really on go.

They ought to take that way inside ball four pitch to Loney and make him eat it!

Perumike: MLB.TV joins the game in progress.

perumike, what do you expect, for KCAL to cancel two episodes of Family Feud? Either KCAL messed up the scheduled start time, or they did this purposely, in which cased the Dodgers will give them hell…………..I would think. Guess we’ll see at 4pm.

Damn Cody Ross!

I’m glad we don’t have to “Listen” to the whole game.

Actually damn Milton for trying to paint the corners too much and walking the guy who scored. He seems to have decent enough stuff if he would just pitch to contact and keep the pitch count down. I’d like to see him be able to last six.

The man’s on a mission, I tell you.

Should had ibb Ross.

Yeah kahli, that Family Feud is really vitally important!! LOL! :)

I think its time we drug tested Pierre. Shirley this can’t be the same JP of the last two years.

And FURCAL sends him in.

Can’t intentionally walk a .216 hitter this early in the game though shad.

Looks like they’re starting from scratch on the game.

Yep but some managers would do it regardless but I know Torre don’t want to raise Milton pitch count since this is his 1st start.

Wow Miller 0-2 record 4.2 innings 14 hits 13 runs 13 ER’s 0 homeruns 7 bb’s 3k’s 25.07 ERA 4.50 WHIP .560 baa.

Enchanted ~ I’m listening to Rick and Charlie and they are totally in love with Shirley! You’d think he was playing every position!!!

KCAL should be horsewhipped. I can understand an event running long…but reruns of FAMILY FEUD????

Damn tape delay

I see JoJo’s going to rest 3-4 starters again tomorrow. Why does he always do that to Kersh? Though to be honest, when Kuroda comes back and if The Toaster is pitching OK, I’d send Kersh back down to AAA.

Yeah, I just saw Pierre score! 1-0 Blue! Woo hoo!

Ok Krod time to shut down that pathetic Giants offense.

E, don’t call him Shirley.

lol at Ethier sb gotten love tape delay.

The tape delay might have something to do with FOX’s blackout policy of three hours. But unlike MLB.TV choosing to join in progress, KCAL decides to delay. Dumb.

Now they showing about the top 10 2006 draft.

Who’s up for long relief today – Troncoso and Mota?

Lookout!!! The Toaster is sparkin’ and heading for a meltdown.

lol probably Weaver

You’r right, Enchanted……….Milton is Toast!!!!!

LMAO!!!!! I say Mota just for you enchanted :)

gnats officially lost :)

Damn freaking 2 outs walks.

Why not try Shirley as a pitcher? After all Shirley is our MVP!!!!

I think you guys all better start warming up.

Good to be back on TV, but the Eric Milton on the radio was doing a lot better.

I think I’ve seen all of Milton that I care to. Let somebody else salvage what’s not likely to be a promising extended career. That’s too bad, because I agree with enchanted that Kershaw is probably the guy who could benefit from a year in AAA.

How ’bout a little show tune? Sound of Music – A Few of My Favorite Things.

A FEW OF MY UNFAVORITE THINGS
.
Kids snotty noses and tickets when written,
Falling in nettles and getting snake bitten,
Having your fiancé give back your ring,
These are a few of my unfavorite things.
.
McDonald’s hot coffee and lion cut poodles,
Weak hitting fielders with arms like wet noodles,
Clown for a manager, Gnat pulling strings,
These are a few of my unfavorite things.
.
D E A agents that find all your stashes,
Money put into a market that crashes,
A left quarter panel that’s riddled with dings,
These are a few of my unfavorite things.
.
When the runs come,
When no pitch zings,
When he’s not so rad,
I simply remember my unfavorite things,
Then Milton don’t seem so bad.

I’ll buy a copy of that record, Enchanted!!!

Relax, eveyrbody the Mets beat the Giants and we can’t lose any ground tonight.

Fabulous Song Enchanted!!!!!!!!

That’s a lot better.

..a 1,2,3 inning ………….much better Eric!!!

Damn!!!!

…just foul Andre – sigh

Sigh after the numbers I put up against Miller vs LA I don’t expected a 1 2 3 innings from him.

So we brought up Uncle Milty to go 4 innings. Why not keep Weaver in the rotation? He at least goes 5.

All this with 2 outs, what the F, why do we fall asleep when we have em almost gone

Is Miller ready to give it up?

I guess he was ready to give it up.

Any more four inning wonders where Milton came from – Estes next? At that rate I don’t doubt that the BP will tire out, as Weaver probably already has at this point.

Work that walk Kemp.

I guess we can only hope that the rest of the West keeps on losing and we have like a 15 game lead in middle Sept when the rosters expand to 40, then we can rest our main bullpen guys before the playoffs and maybe even find a couple gems from who we bring up

Urgh

Come on Paul another PH homeruns

sigh

Great going ODAWG after JP does his things.

Furcal really needs a rest and I still think he’s hurt.

Russell was too anxious. Probably looking put us ahead on one swing.

It looked to me, like Martin, Loney & Kemp had only one thing on their mind.

Is Torre wearing a chest protector?

Once again Furcal need a rest can’t make an error on a potential dp ball.

Not Belisario’s fault.

Well make it or break it.

At least the giants already lost

STILL 6 UP.

Kershaw needs to bring it tommorrow, 4-2 on the road trip would be fine

Not Belisario’s fault at all. For that matter he shouldn’t have to be pitching two innings. I also know that we’ve got a great team record, and that this has already been a successful road trip. A good team can carry a slumping player and overcome daily let-downs by other players, but I’m really getting fed up with Furcal. When you consider that he’s signed his second three year contract at premium prices for his field position, he has underperformed for us at a level unexcelled except for Schmidt. Consider his time on DL, his low performance the year that he played at much less than 100%, and his continued low performance this season. If it wasn’t for the resurgence of Pierre, which may be short-lived in the long run, we would not be scoring many runs, because Furcal produces Zip at top of the order. I wish we had a three year contract for Hudson instead of Furcal. If he’s still hurt, or still recovering, what the hell is he doing in there every day. He should be sat out for an entire series and then dropped down to the 8 or even 9 position in the order until he can show some progress. In the meantime Furcal SUCKS, and I’m not afraid to call it as I see it.

M/bear brings up an interesting point. A few think Furcal is still ailing, with a multi-year contract. Hudson, also coming off an injury has one year. I’m not faulting management, they do a good job. But Hudson is a great addition and seems like a good fit. If he is doing the same good job in the beginning of August, I’d be for extending him out a couple of years.
EXTEND the O-DOG!!!!! and get ‘em tomorrow.

Good evening ITD’ers!
.
I hope all is well with everybody.
.
I agree with your post @ 6:34 Bear. He does seem to not be what we had hoped for.
.
I didn’t see the game today but most of his errors or misplayed balls have been to his backhand side. I’m wondering if he still is having a hard time going that way because that is the play he hurt his back on. Maybe he’s having a tough time mentally making that play.
.
Take care all…

Good Evening ITD readers and writers!!!!!

3-2 Road trip so far………………not bad………….not bad at all. Let’s hope Kersh has his stuff tomorrow, and we can go from having a good road trip to a great road trip.

RESURGENT PIERRE CAN’T SAVE DODGERS IN LOSS—–Give me a break! I’ve tried to be kind and nice to Juan because he is playing better than his usual self. However, he is still Juan Pierre and as far as I know this is a team sport. You’d think he was our savior the way the Dodgers Home Page and Rick and Charlie have been singing his praises. Who’s to say X Paul wouldn’t have done the same thing for us? He may have hit a homerun instead of a single and given us even more runs to work with. And, everone on the team can steal a base. Even Andre did it and he’s no speedster!

*everyone

GOOD MORNING DODGERS!!!!!
